KND - The Filthy Crew (+ Cordelia) Headcanons
Since people liked my last KND Headcanons about Windsor, I've decided to make another one decidated to Captain James and the Filthy Crew because I feel like they don't get much attention. I also added my OC Cordelia Waves who you can learn more about here!
Captain James P. Dirt
Tumblr media
He ran away from home when he was 11 after his mom tried to make him take a bath.
He acts as a father figure to the boys, even though he's annoyed with them most of the time.
He never knew how to shave, hence his hairy legs and stubble.
He avoids getting clean at all costs.
The P in his name stands for Pristine which means clean and fresh (how ironic).
He used to laugh at butt jokes when he was younger like his boys do.
When there's danger, him and his boys run like cowards. But if something or someone threatens his boys, he'll fight for them.
His room (or Captain's Quarter) is messy and filthy but it's relaxing for him.
He has a fear of rubber ducks because of Moby Duck.
When he was younger, his mom forcefully bathed with him cold water and scrubbed him harshly. Which explains his fear of baths and why he ran away from home.
Dr. McCoy
Tumblr media
His real name is Diego McCoy.
He knows a lot about medicine, hence why he's the doctor.
He's known for his sarcastic and sardonic wit.
He can be pessimistic when things go rough and has a short temper.
His favorite animals are hamsters.
He specializes in health and helps the boys keep healthy because that filth and dirt can make anyone sick (even them but their immune system got stronger over time).
He's a fan of Yipper and superhero comics.
Along with Mr. Pee-ew, he enjoys teasing and playing pranks on others.
Mr. Slob
Tumblr media
His real name is Cristian Nimoy.
Out of all of the boys, he's calm and collected even in the face of danger.
He's the brains of the crew.
Surprisingly, he can be sarcastic at times.
He and Diego playfully banter with each other and get on each other's nerves (mostly on purpose).
He stays calm in every situation but secretly freaks the freak out on the inside.
In his spare time, he likes to draw and color.
He is Captain Dirt's second-in-command.
Mr. Pee-ew
Tumblr media
His real name is Parker Takei.
He is a prankster and enjoys cracking jokes.
He doesn't take anything seriously but panics when things get serious.
He doesn't like to admit it since he puts on a tough facade, but he's very sensitive.
He likes to keep his hair messy and wild. He hates washing his hair.
Back home, he had very strict parents so that was part of the reason why he was more than happy to be part of the S.S. Stinkypants.
He's the helmsman of the ship.
He really hates getting his hair wet or washed.
Spotty
Tumblr media
His real name is Maxwell "Maxie" Doohan.
He's a bit of a worrywart and is the first one to panic when there's trouble.
He fidgets sometimes when he's nervous.
He's the lieutenant commander and chief engineer of the ship.
He's the one to fix the ship or a problem and doesn't mind getting messy when doing so.
He's a little shy, especially when it comes to meeting new people but is still friendly regardless.
However, he surprisingly has a sharp sense of humor when he comes out of his shell.
Cordelia Waves
Tumblr media
Her full name is Cordelia Laguna Waves.
She hates litterbugs, especially litterbugs who throw their trash in the ocean.
She wants to make friends with everyone she mets and to travel the world to meet more people one day.
She's way too trusting for her own good.
She recently enjoys collecting mermaid dolls.
Her and her family are eco-friendly.
She's not a fan of dirt and mud, but will tolerate them for the sake of the Filthy Crew.
She enjoys running when she's human but often trips a lot due to her being new to legs.
She loves hanging out with the Filthy Crew boys (who secretly have huge crushes on her).
She sees Captain James as a weird but funny uncle figure.
If she was in the Kids Next Door, her codename would be Numbuh 12,080 which is the average ocean depth in feet and Numbuh 20,000 would most likely have a crush on her.
When she's human, she (unknowingly) gets many attention from the boys her age (much to the dismay and frustration of the Filthy Crew boys. They usually drive the other boys away when Cordelia isn't looking).

Warrior Season 3 Finale
(Sorry person who sent me an anon message, I accidentally deleted it 😭 but here ya go)
AH TOY AND NELLIE KILLING DICKLAND TOGETHER!!! THE WIVES ARE SO BACK!!!
They had to fit in A LOT this episode, but I’m glad Ah Toy and Nellie had two very solid scenes. I fantasized so much about them getting revenge together, and it actually happened! Sorry Leary but the wives deserve this more! Dickland talking shit and playing stupid mind games with them. His arrogance was his downfall. No asshole YOU should be afraid because Ah Toy is not playing around! She didn’t get a single scratch while slicing and dicing him like a pig! It was so bloody and brutal and violent, I love it! Nellie being backup with her shotgun like “you’re doing great sweetie!”
Then Bill and Leary had to show up at the wrong time! Though I don’t think Bill can recognize her from that distance. Then Nellie began shooting at them and they ran away. So hopefully they’ll be off the hook next season. Burning Dickland’s body in the incinerator was pure poetic Justice!
Back at the brothel, the adrenaline of revenge is replaced by crushing despair. Dickland’s death didn’t bring back Lai and their girls. He’s not the only greedy and evil man out there. Ah Toy’s been in survival mode for so long, she’s TIRED of all this shit! She never let herself show emotion like this, not even with Ah Sahm. Seeing her completely break down with Nellie is a huge deal for their relationship! After everything that happened, they still love each other and became even stronger. Nellie holding Ah Toy close and saying “I’m not going anywhere” 😭🥺💕 So similar to how they ended last season. I predict that Ah Toy will leave the brothel, and they’ll rebuild somewhere next season.
Mai Ling confronting Eliza was so good! After the trauma she endured, Mai Ling can’t help relating to Eliza. What Eliza did was wrong, but her shitty husband is the real problem. Mai Ling giving Eliza a knife…I hope she use it well.
So here for Catherine Archer scamming Buckley for all his money! Rob his slimy racist ass, lady!
The Tongs, Isaac’s crew, and police fighting over the money plates. The ice factory is a homage to Bruce Lee, according to the Internet. Nice. The finale definitely isn’t short on action, I counted 4 in this episode! Isaac almost took the plates but Ah Sahm handled him, and gave them to Lee. That means Yan Mi can be free.
Tbh I’m quite concerned with how they portrayed the black characters this season. Abigail is good, but most of them were antagonistic. I’m aware of how Asians are deemed “the model minority” and often pitted against African Americans. I just wish the show could’ve subverted that somehow.
Back to Yan Mi, she’s released from jail and runs home to her father. It’s a very poignant scene that can resonate with children of immigrant parents. She respects him, but felt stifled by his expectations. Still, she did mess up by getting involved with a gang. I would’ve preferred Ah Sahm to not have romance this season, but it served it a purpose. I like Yan Mi as a character. Too bad she gets so much flack for getting between YJ and Ah Sahm.
After getting disowned, she goes to the train station. Ah Sahm never made it, but Chao does. He convince her to go without him anyway, and she does but it’s hard. She got the money from Chao, but she’s also alone as a Chinese woman. We’ve seen other characters try to get out and it didn’t go well. Still, glad they didn’t kill her and hopefully she’ll be ok. Just a small town girl…living in a lonely world…she took the midnight train going anywhere…
After Kon Pak, Lai, and Father Jun…I draw the line at Chao getting stabbed multiple times! ZING is back and he wants revenge against everyone! Bill and Lee looked so happy, laughing on the porch 😬 They better not kill Chao if they get season 4! So many Asian characters died this season, they better replenish! Hello, Michelle Yeoh??? 🙏🏻 Don’t let the white characters outnumber them!
Finally… the dreaded moment where Ah Sahm has to choose between his sister and the Hop Wei. I figured he would choose Mai Ling. His relationship with Young Jun has been going downhill this season. It’s hard to watch because I understand both of their perspectives. Ah Sahm vs YJ and Hong was equally epic and heartbreaking. None of them took pleasure in that fight, but it was necessary. Ah Sahm knocked both of them out before going to find Mai Ling.
Meanwhile, Mai Ling is defending herself against the Hop Wei. She makes some progress with her gun, but gets overpowered by them. It looked like she might die by drowning, but I didn’t buy it. Ah Sahm and Mai Ling are reunited as they desperately cling to each other. No more Hop Wei and Long Zhii. Li Yong became the leader of his own tong, good for him! Exploring these new dynamics in season 4 will be very interesting. I’ve always understood Mai Ling while not agreeing with all her manipulative schemes. Hitting rock bottom could lead to some sort of redemption for her. Looking forward to it!
Big political changes will definitely endanger Chinatown next season. The Chinese Exclusion Act was passed in 1882, but it might be sooner in the show. Not good when everyone is still divided and fighting each other. Perhaps Ah Sahm, the embodiment of Bruce Lee, will unite them all in the end.
Season 3 had its flaws, but overall it was amazing! I really hope it doesn’t end here, the story and characters have so much potential! Fucking Hollywood studios refusing to pay people fairly 😡😡😡 I saw on Twitter some of the Warrior cast joining the protest too, it’s great! Season 4 of Warrior or we riot!!!

Tumblr media
"Kitsuyo.. Please, take your sister." Your mother said bringing you in her arms to your brother, slowly, your brother, Kitsuyo took you out of your mothers arms, "Mom.. You can't just leave us like this." Kitsuyo says, the woman looks at you, and her son, "I'm sorry, Kitsuyo. Us Umi Kitsunes, they're destined to have life long battles. They are the Guardians of this enchanted forest." She says, she took a deep breath, "Remember Kitsuyo, protect your sister at all costs, okay? Don't run away, don't ever run away. Don't let her die in your arms. Us Umi Kitsunes, your family, we love you so much, Kitsuyo. Now go, far from this place, far from this battle." She says turning around to help her husband, to help her friends in combat. She ran and ran, and she never looked back. Kitsuyo, watching your mother going in battlefield knowing she will never come back. He looks down at your sleeping figure, though you have just been born a few months ago, you've grown some hair, "I'll forever protect you, [name]. You can trust your big brother on that." He says as his voice breaks, he turns away from the battlefield, and flees. He goes back to the camp where you have been born, where the most safest place is. Now, it is his responsibility to train you, feed you, raise you, as a guardian of the forest. And he vows to never abandon you.
-
And years and years have passed, Kitsuyo became more stronger, you too, became older. Your ears became longer, you hair became more beautiful, your powers became powerful. Kitsuyo helped you trained your powers, and finally, you grew your first every tail, Kitsuyo felt as if this was a huge accomplishment, you were quite shocked, but seeing that your brother was happy, you assumed it's a good thing. But, you always wondered where your parents went, and why your brother always made you train with him, but you just obliged. The weapon you picked was rather too heavy for a child, but at the same time you're a kitsune that's extremely strong. Though it was a beginners scythe, it was not bad for training purposes, though even after all your training, Kitsuyo never made you actually legitimately fight in battle, you'd usually watch from the sides inside the forest in order to "stay safe." You'd see other kitsunes like you in combat, and they were amazing. You'd look at them in awe and in amazement, "Hopefully I can be like them soon.." You once mumbled. This was basically your life routine, eat, train, rest, train, sleep then repeat. There was never ever something special happening, at least that's what you thought. When you were in the age of almost 600 you overheard a conversation of your brother, you heard that a battle might happen again, and the Umi Kitsunes are the most needed, you thought this was your opportunity to fight in battle, "[name]." Kitsuyo calls, you turn to him, "Yes?" You ask, "I know you heard a conversation between me and someone." He says, you swallow, "[Name], remember, stay in the forest, don't ever move away unless someone calls you." He says, "I'm telling you [name], no matter how much you want to be in combat you cannot. You have not mastered your powers yet, and you're still vulnerable to death." He warns you, "but–" You got cut by his glare, "[name], listen to me." He says sternly, "Don't. Do not go inside the battlefield, it is too dangerous for you." He says, you opened your mouth to protest, until you heard foot steps approaching you both rapidly, "Kitsuyo! They started attacking!" One of the Umi Kitsunes says, "What? That fast?!" He says flabbergasted, "Shit. Let's go. [Name], remember, stay here, do not go in battlefield unless you are needed." He says before running in combat, you only watched in the distance as they slowly fade in the darkness of the depths of the forest. You sit down at your camp and await of your brothers arrival to come back.
-
A few hours has passed, and the battle has slightly died down. You saw some kitsunes coming back to their huts or back to their homes, you even found some kitsunes in their human forms coming back with a smile on their faces. "Maybe we won?" You thought, you stood up and stretched after many hours of sitting down, you proceed to walk to the battlefield, you were near the battlefield, then you crouched, you ducked your head and lowered your ears, you slightly peeked your head through the trees, then, you saw what you hated the most. Your brothers deceased body. Your eyes widen, and immediately stood up, the crunch of the leaves may got the other kitsunes attention because one of your cousins went up to you, they sighed, "I'm sorry you had to find out like this." They said, you turn back at the sound of their voice, "Kitsuyo.. He said he wanted to tell you something." They added, they look at you in the eyes, "What is it..?" You ask solemnly, your cousin sighed, "Well, he says he wants to apologize because he wouldn't let you fight in combat, he knew you wanted to fight beside him, but now, he leaves everything up to you, but you need to practice your powers, and you need to practice how to dodge." Your cousin says, "You know, [name].. I'm willing to help you train." Your cousin offers, "Al.. Alright.." You stutter, "You can go back to your camp, I'll clean up Kitsuyo's body." Your cousin says, you nod, you watch as your cousin approaches your brothers body, you walk away to save yourself from watching your brothers deceased body possibly be buried or something like that. Your brother was kind of strict with you, but that didn't matter, as he was your only family member. But now? You're on your own, you don't have any of your family members, just you and your cousin left, well, distant cousin. You came back to the camp, you just sat down. Thinking what the future offers you, would they kill your distant cousin too? Would they even kill you, as well? But, you didn't want to die yet, not until you knew where your parents are. However, you did learn something awhile back, "Umi Kitsunes are the guardians of this forest." So, how are you going to be a guardian when you're just sitting here sulking? If you want to continue your family's legacy, you needed to train and train. You still remember the training routine your brother gave as you started training ever since you were extremely young. You just had one tail when you started training, that was almost 500 years ago. now, you had 6 tails, though you were a young kitsune, your mind was very matured, and though you seem young, you have fully mastered some of your powers. As the sun slowly sets, you see your cousin walking to you, you stop panting and facing their direction, "You've improved, [name.]" They say, "Thank you.." You say out of breath, "Take a break, care for some tea with some friends?" They say showing a cup, you nod hesitantly as you never really went out to socialize. Your cousin smiles softly, "Follow me then." They say turning back, your cousin was very old. Almost 4,000 years old. As you both arrived at where your cousins and their friends would usually stay, you saw some familiar faces, you saw one of the most famous and a rare kitsune that can also turn into a human. "Is this [name]?" a woman says, "That's right, Sei. [Name], meet Sei, she's a Seishin kitsune, that's how she got her name." Your cousin says, "Nice to meet you, [name]. Just as Chisato said, I am Sei, I hope we can fight alongside each other, I've heard great things about you." Sei says elegantly, the way her voice just flows sends shivers down your spine, after Sei, you see two other people, "Hi there, [name]! My name is Mishiro, I also got my name from my kitsune type, Mori. It's a pleasant to meet you!" Mishiro says, Mishiro looks like she has a good type of energy, you slightly smile, "Good to meet you too, Mishiro." You respond, "This is Inei, she's a Kumiho kitsune." Chisato, or your cousin introduces you to them, Inei bows their head, and so do you. "Please, [name], take a seat."
Sei says, you sat down beside Chisato and Mishiro, "There's a reason why we called you here, [name]." Chisato says, "I'm sure you find us all familiar, yes? Our faces." Chisato asks, you nod, "That's because we're the leaders of our kitsunes. Sei is the leader for Seishin kitsunes, Mishiro for Mori, and so on." Chisato says, you don't talk, you just listen to Chisato, "And since we're both left for the higher classes for the Umi Kitsunes, I offer you to be the leader for the Umi Kitsunes. I cannot bear this responsibility anymore, as I am close to death." Chisato says, Inei sighs, "We've all already found our alternative leaders, death is inevitable. Especially those for the leaders with great power." They said, you swallow the nervousness you're feeling, "But.. Why didn't you pick someone else?" You ask, "That's another topic we want to talk about as well." Chisato says, "Umi Kitsunes are turning extinced, there is some unknown killer targeting the Umi's, and, well, you're the only one that I can rely on. Whenever you train, I always watch from afar, and as a 600 year old kistune, you've mastered multiple powers some can't at your age. It only took several hundred years for you, while others takes thousands of years. That's why I want you to be the new leader." Chisato explains, you look down, nervous. You'll be the new leader of one of your kinds, "Trust me, we leaders didn't want to do this. I needed to give up my role to my daughter." Sei says, "So? What do you say, [name]?" Chisato asks, "I accept. I will bare any type of responsibility and I will try to be the good leader you will be expecting." You say, Chisato smiles, "I'm glad, [name]. I'm willing to help you guide you through this before we all die." Chisato says, "But, there are things you need to know." Chisato adds, "As the leader, you will always be needed in battle. A training session happens multiple times a day. The training session is held by the former leader." Chisato explains, you listen attentively, "And always be prepared for the death of your comrades, or maybe even yours." Chisato adds, they all nod, "But," Mishiro says, "Are we still going to try and find the possible killers?" Mishiro asks, "This can be a mission for us." Inei suggests, "That's right, we can find the killer if we all work hard enough." Chisato says, "Chisato.." You say, "Yes, [name]?" Chisato asks, "There's a power where I can't fully master, and I'm scared I might hurt other kitsunes." You say, "Don't worry, [name]. We'll help you." Chisato says, "But what if I accidentally hurt any of you..?" You ask slightly scared, "Then we won't blame you." Mishiro says, "What Mishi says, we won't blame you because you hurt us, whatever power that overcame your body will be in faulty." Sei says, "Isn't that right, Inei?" Sei says looking at them, Inei slightly nods, "I've been there before [name], I've killed other kitsunes because of it. We promise to help you control it.'' Inei says, you smile at them, "Thank you, all of you." you say, they all smile, "Cheers to the new Umi leader?" Chisato asks, "Cheers!" They all say in synch.
-
Evening falls, and the four leaders are all sleeping. You in the other hand, proceed to the battlefield, it felt as if something important was there, once you got in the middle of the battlefield, something hit you. Your head started hurting, the pain hurts, but you couldn't scream, you fell to the ground, and you screamed. You screamed for help. Then the next thing you remember, is someone calling out your name, and your vision blacking out. It felt as if you were sleeping, but your mind is wide awake, you open your eyes, you open your eyes to see a familiar face, your brother. "Oh, you're awake." He says, "Kitsuyo..?" You say in shock, your eyes started filling up in tears, Kitsuyo chuckled, "Why do you seem so surprised to see me?" He asks, you started crying. "Are you.. real..?" You ask, "Yes, of course. Why not? Look, even mom and dad are cooking." He says pointing to the other side, you couldn't see their face, only their bodies. Even little kitsunes are running around playing, "There's so many children playing. Isn't it so sweet?" Kitsuyo asks beside you, you turn back to Kitsuyo and hug him, "Haha, why the sudden hug, [name]? Is something the matter? Did you have a nightmare?" Kitsuyo asks as he hugs you back, you shake your head, "No.. nothing happened, I just want to hug you one last time.." You say, "Alright then." He says stroking your head, your beautiful [color] hair, you close your eyes, just to open them to see you tied to a tree. You gasp, "[Name?!]" You hear Sei, "Sei!" You call out to her, "Are you finally there?" Sei asks, "What?" You ask confused, "So this is what you mean by a power you can't control." Inei says, "It's so similar to yours, Inei." Sei says as she removes the ropes she summoned in order to tie you, "What did I do?" You ask rubbing your wrists, "You killed multiple kitsunes and foxes." Inei says, "Inei! You could've said it a little less gruesome." Sei says, "We need to be straightforward to her. How is she going to be a fit leader?" Inei asks, Sei says nothing, "Chisato! She's awake!" You heard Mishiro call your cousin, you heard your cousins footsteps rush towards your direction, "No one is injured?" Chisato asks, everyone shakes their head, "There's some kitsunes that survived, but.." Mishiro cuts herself, "The killer also attacked." Mishiro says, "What?!" Sei says shocked, "Yeah. I smelled a scent that isn't apart of the kitsunes, it's from someone else." Mishiro says, "At the same time?" Chisato asks, Mishiro nods, Chisato sighs deeply, "This is a scary fact but.." Chisato pauses, "I think [name] is capable of killing us all." Chisato says, "What?!" Sei, you, and Mishiro says in synch, "With [name's] speed and the way she blends in the dark is a good escape route, but, why did you do it?" Chisato asks, "I didn't know what I'm doing.. I just had a dream about Kitsuyo, and mom and dad.." You say recollecting the pieces of the dreams you had, "So you were sleep walking?" Sei asks, "Seems like it." You say, Chisato sighs, "I think we have to be careful whenever the killer attacks.'' Chisato says, "It seems that when the killer attacks [name] attacks as well." Chisato says, "I think so too! The direction [name] is going is towards the killers scent! We can use [name] to kill the killer, we just have to make other kistunes and foxes leave her sight!" Mishiro says, "That's right!" Chisato says as her eyes lights up, "We have to be extremely careful for this plan." Chisato pauses, "But how do we know when the killer strikes?" Chisato asks, "I think I can tell in advance. Again, I smelled and sense a different presence in advanced, I thought nothing of it at first and now I understand." Mishiro says, "Alright, I think we have a solid plan." Chisato says, "We can do this!" Mishiro says happily jumping, "They're both so full of energy." Ineii says, "Haha.. you can say that again." Sei says observing the duo.
time skip, the killer strikes.
"Shit! What do we do?!" Sei says in a panic, "Chisato!" Sei calls, "Why isn't [name].. no, why isn't this creature following the scent of the killer?!" Mishiro asks, "Are we.. actually going to die here..?" Chisato asks, "No, Chisato, no! We aren't going to die to this creature." Sei says, "At the same time.. I don't mind dying in [name's] hands.." Chisato says holding her abdomen to stop the bleeding, "Chisato.. your.." Mishiro says frightened "I'm sorry, everyone. I lost too much blood." Chisato says weakly while she falls down on her knees, "Chisato!" Mishiro calls out to Chisato, "It's okay, Mishiro. If I die then I'll willingly die to [name's] hands. I'll be honoured, even." Chisato says, "Chisato.." Sei calls out in sorrow, "I've prepared a scroll for [name] to read, I knew this would happen..'' Chisato says while coughing, "I did too." Inei says, "I think we all did." Sei says summoning a scroll, "If we die, that's the time [name] wakes up." Chisato says, "So, if we just put the scrolls next to us then, she'll find it." Chisato says, everyone puts their weapons down as they are too weak to continue fighting, "I guess I agree with you, Chisato. The only time I agree." Inei says, "That..?" Chisato asks, "That I'll be willingly to die in [name']s hands." Inei says as a blade pierces through their throat. "Inei!" Mishiro calls, "I'm next huh..?" Sei says looking at you, "Thank you for the memories then, [name]. I love you." Sei says as multiple blades stabs her. "Now us.." Mishiro says, "I love you, Chisato." Mishiro says as she turns to Chisato, Chisato has her eyes closed, and her chest isn't rising anymore. Mishiro smiles,, "To die beside my comrades.. It's the best thing I ask for. Thank you, [name]." She says her final words as a blade cuts her head and decapitates it from her body.

Full Name: Lunara Kuzgun Nickname(s): Lu, Luna, Loony Gender: Cis woman (she/her) Sexuality: Bisexual Birthday: November 19 (26) Zodiac: Scorpio Hometown: Istanbul, Turkey Current Residence: Ocean Crest Apartments Time in Aurora Bay: 3 Years Occupation: Front Desk at the Pit Stop Garage Education: High School Diploma
(Trigger warnings for toxic parents, toxic relationships, drug abuse, emotional manipulation)
PERSONALITY.
+ enigmatic, savvy, resourceful - abrasive, defensive, pessimistic
QUICK BIO.
Grew up in a low income neighborhood of Istanbul, raised mostly by her mother after her father, who was an alcoholic and had a gambling addiction, left them when Lunara was four years old
When she was six her maternal grandparents passed away (whom she'd never met, because they stopped speaking to Lu's mom when she married someone they disapproved of) and her mom inherited the small but still significant amount of money they had
Lunara's mom had always been obsessed with Americana and Hollywood and when she came into possession of this money, she moved with Lu to Los Angeles where she fantasized about mingling with the stars and becoming an actress
Far from it, the culture shock was so bad for her mom that instead of going out and making connections and doing auditions, she totally receded. She got a job waitressing that barely paid for rent after her inheritance ran out
Lunara also had a terrible time adjusting to a new country. She knew English well enough from watching American movies with her mom so often but she'd never learned even the basics of English orthography so the language barrier and the difficulty in school contributed hugely to her anger
And Lunara was angry. She got into fights with other kids and with her teachers, she missed school a lot, especially when she got to high school, and she dated around with the sort of shitty dudes who destroyed her self esteem
In her senior year however she dated someone a little different. He wasn't a blatant piece of shit like the rest of them always were but he was a chronic Nice Guy who was almost as manipulative as she was. He had a nice mom though who felt bad for Lu's home life and let her move in with them for the last few months of senior year, and she even stood up for her when Lu's mom threw a fit about it once she realized
After high school, Lunara got an apartment with this boyfriend. She cheated on him, he forgave her, and then many months later she cheated on him again and that, on top of the drugs she was starting to do too much of, finally sealed the deal and he broke up with her
Lunara moved in with a friend and started saving up to get her own place, but before that could happen she found a new boyfriend to define her life and she moved in with him instead. This one was a drug dealer with loads of cash and convinced her to move to Aurora Bay with him, where he got them a place in Fisher's Cove. Inevitably they relationship failed too, though, and Lunara once again had to move out, this time getting an apartment at Ocean Crest with a couple roommates
HEADCANONS.
She's angry and bitter about her life and makes it everyone else's problem because she has zero ability to be introspective
She does have a vulnerable side but it's about as accessible as the bottom of the ocean. If you do get through to her she'll get unhealthily attached
Drinks too much and does too many drugs to cope with her depression and lack of perceived purpose
Doesn't trust people because she herself isn't particularly trustworthy so she projects that
Gets defensive at the speed of light and is real nasty in a fight
Deeply manipulative, not even on purpose most of the time
Genuinely doesn't believe happiness is in the cards for her and expects she'll die young
Can't take anything seriously and will do mental and verbal gymnastics to avoid doing so
Speaks in huge hyperboles and metaphors
Loves film but hates film buffs
Has tried on multiple occasions to meditate in an attempt to relieve some of her tension and anger and always being in her head but it's always just been a frustrating experience
Has incredible balance
Likes books but can't be fucked reading usually which is also why she likes movies
WANTED CONNECTIONS.
As many enemies as u wanna give me for her :')
A very few close friends she actually trusts
Any old LA connections from when she was there most of her childhood
Exes, all of which wld have been toxic relos
Tinder/hinge/hookups/fwb/etc
People she's a bad influence on/they're a bad influence on each other
Someone who tries to be a good influence on her and it sort of works sometimes
Someone who tries to parent her and it deeply doesn't work

Tag people you want to get to know better
Thanks @strangesoulmates for tagging me!
Three ships (As I’m writing this out I’m realising they all have pretty similar themes, I guess I have somewhat consistent taste, this is all just reminders of humanity, enemies to lovers, trying to kill each other and excuses to cover my blorbos in blood.)
1.) Alex/Yassen
Can I be controversial and admit this one took a lot of convincing? Originally I was expecting the fandom to be more into ‘unlikely parental figure’ Yassen (which is a trope I’m an absolute sucker for.) but any way these two characters interact is interesting to me, and I’ve definitely come round to it from a perspective of this is only ‘healthy’ because it’s them and no one else can really understand them like the other can, and if it’s not ‘healthy’ it’s all dubious and quite fun. Big sucker for the (sort of one sided?) enemies to lovers, borderline obsession, as character foils of each other, with Yassen kind of representing Alex’s future and the dichotomy of like... sunshine puppy and murder kitty vibes. Then there’s the loyalty to each other before their ‘side’, different worlds and different morals but a unique understanding of each other.
(Also worth mentioning that I like Yassen with basically any Rider - I don’t see John/Yassen as anything but unhealthy hero worship/daddy issues/manipulation but that itself is still interesting, and I’m a huge sucker for Ian/Yassen, either as like an old married couple or people who have a few brief, but very intense encounters throughout their lives. I feel like there’s been a bit of a ‘Yiannaissance’ recently that I’m really enjoying. Do we have an official ship name? Yian? Iassen? Neither seem great.)
2.) Jonathon Reid/Geoffrey McCullum.
Peak different sides, enemies to lovers, vampire hunter and powerful newborn vampire in 1918 London in the grip of a pandemic, great gothic industrial vibe. I played this game obsessively during lockdown. (Can’t imagine why.) Themes of duty and purpose and humanity and horror, the game sort of rushes you into a forced romance with one of the female characters but the chemistry between these two is insane they are kind of obsessed with each other and the fight that happens when one of them tries to kill the other is just TEEMING with homoeroticism.
3.) Villanelle/Eve Polastri
First two seasons of Killing Eve are some of the best television ever created. The theatricality of the murders, and the comedy contrasted with some just devastating moments, the OUTFITS. That ending really took the wind out of my sails with this one and kind of spoiled it for me but what was there with the themes of mutual obsession, both trying to kill each other, Villanelle drawing out this dark side of Eve that has always been there, Eve drawing out this humanity that also been in Villanelle, just the whole vibe of being the only people in the world who could possibly understand the other properly and hating that so much you try and kill each other before realising they can’t be apart.
First Ship - I think the first one I really went insane for was Morrigan/Warden from DA:O. Morrigan helped me realise I was a lesbian I was so in love with her. Still am tbh.
Last song - ‘King’ by Florence + the Machine, I went to her concert this week and she ran right past me it was amazing.
Last Movie - finally got round to watching Everything Everywhere All at Once, so incredible!
Currently reading - chapter 3 of ‘The Viking Diaspora’ by Judith Jesch for my seminar tomorrow. (I really want to read more novels this year!)
Currently watching - His Dark Materials, interspersed with weird niche YouTube video essays, and mildly embarrassing amounts of Bluey.
Currently consuming: last thing I ate was some cinnamon raisin bread with one of the fancy jams I got in the jam advent calendar I bought myself. Now I need to figure out where I can find pineapple and yuzu jam bc I want to eat it forever.
Currently craving: supermarket bakery chocolate chip cookies, and some sweet and spicy fried chicken.
Tagging @countessrivers and whoever else fancies!

what happened that night.
clockwork : before vecna, chrissy and eddie had become friends before then
trigger warnings : yelling, just overall bad parenting.
word count : 843
Chrissy didn’t know how it happened but she had been fighting back and forth with her mother for at least half an hour by now. She was curled up in a ball in the corner. Her knees were to her chest and her face was stained with tears that had continued falling. “Why are you so upset mom?! He is just a friend!”
Her mother scoffed, rolling her eyes. “Because I don’t like him! Not one bit! He is just some low life drug dealer that has no purpose!”
That just made Chrissy sob harder. She hated people saying that about Eddie. Eddie was one of her best friends. God, she even thought of him as a brother. Eddie was smart and caring and she knew he had a lot of potential. “He is not! He’s my best friend, mom stop it!” She was just getting louder by the second.
“Fine! I’m not dealing with your teenage bullshit right now, Chrissy! I don’t want to see him around anymore!” And with that her mother stormed off and slammed the door. Chrissy flinched and just started sobbing more.
After about fifteen minutes of sobbing she decided she wanted to see him. So she climbed out of her window as quietly as she could and got back down to the ground. She didn’t have a car, despite her family having the money. Her mom just didn’t want her going many places. But because she was a cheerleader she just walked everywhere because she had the strength.
It took her another twenty minutes to walk to Eddie’s trailer and she hadn’t brought a coat so she was shivering. Her face being stained with new tears also didn’t help since she had been sobbing the entire walk. Despite her freezing she just weakly knocked on the door to the trailer.
Eddie was on the couch just reading Lord of the Rings until he heard the quiet knocks and sobs. He quickly got up and ran to the door, opening it. He was shocked to see a shivering, sobbing Chrissy standing in front of him. “Chris? What happened?” She just shook her head in response, not wanting to talk about it. He understood so he scooped her up in his arms and brought her over to the couch, wrapping her up in his favorite blanket. “You’re freezing… Did you walk all the way here..?” She nodded with a sniffle as he wiped the tears from her cheeks.
“Oh Chrissy… come here.” He wrapped his arms around her and pulled her to his chest to try and calm her down because she seemed really shaken up. She was usually quiet but not around him so he knew something pretty bad happened.
After a few minutes she had stopped sobbing so he loosened his grip on her. “Are you ready to talk now?” She shook her head again. She wasn’t in a talking mood and Eddie knew that feeling all too well so he got up and popped in Snow White so they could watch it together. This wasn’t the first time Chrissy had to be calmed down and she had mentioned she loved Snow White so he bought the tape. He bought it just for instances like this when she was too shaken up to talk and she needed comfort.
They got all cuddled up to each other again, Chrissy’s head resting on Eddie’s chest, just listening to his heartbeat. He just played with her hair a bit while she was distracted by the movie. About halfway into the movie he noticed her quiet yawns so he just smiled and kept doing what he was doing.
The crying had tired her out so she had fell asleep on top of him. He didn’t notice until he heard snores. He chuckled and gently picked her up, taking her to his bed so she could be more comfortable. He adjusted the blanket on her and pressed a kiss to her head before walking out and laying back on the couch.
Eddie was reading his book again, nearly finished when he heard the sound of quiet footsteps. He looked over to see Chrissy standing there. She was in his shirt, which she had changed into when she had woken up. Eddie didn’t mind of course. He knew she found comfort in it so he just let her wear it. It was huge on her though, since she’s pretty underweight.
“Eddie..?” She was quiet, mumbling a little as she looked down at the floor.
“Yes?” He stood up again, walking closer to her.
“I want cuddles… please.” Being held by Eddie was what calmed her, helped her sleep so he nodded. He wasn’t going to say no. He scooped her up again and brought her back to the bed, laying down next to her this time. He wrapped his arms around her and pulled the blanket over them. Neither of them cared about what Chrissy’s mom would say because they knew that next to each other was the safest place they could be.

That's the question of what is behind the Parthenon which is one of his ruling houses and it was his and he did rule from there for a short time and it is Zeus we're talking about and Hera ruled from there too but hers was across from his and it was moved and it was moved down the hill by you people you humans. And he was a kind and just ruler and it didn't last long before you ran in there to glad that yours and we had to evacuate before you got there but we did build it there on purpose and for you to do that and you guys ruled from there for many years and then you answered your woman and it is a sign that shows that and it has been forever ingrained in their memories house she was kicked down the hill and there's even a song and a few other things in America about it Jack and Jill. And he is actually taking a back from it ways and they're equal but in different ways and you're being mean and sometimes he has moments but really he does think that way a little. There are a few other things there is a giant mounted Hill underneath that underneath it is a huge dome very huge in diameter and it goes down about 5 to 10 miles it is hand cut stone and it's piled and it's not monolithic but it is above something directly above it just as our son says my brothers make a computer is directly below Epcot center and that's how they did it because they were ruling here after he was and I'm his father and his mother is here too and we are God and Goddess of Greece
One of our names is Athena and her husband is listed and they know what it is and they're not letting it out because of the man woman fight that's my wife's name
Kiju where a zapping people back then and many of these statues are actually people and you can tell because of what the material looks like if broken it's porous and it looks very odd and it's not shaped right and then some of it has bone in it and they scanned a lot of these and found some of them are people and we have Kaiju, and it is of Our own and you have seen it in movies and it's not his kraken although it's origins are near here Greece and he did it to honor us. It's very near here as a matter of fact it's in the Mediterranean that's where origins are and it's not where they were formed it's where the first parent is from and that is our monster it is a sea monster and you have seen it and yes it's name is well it's a leviathan and a big monster it looks like Raiju no. It does look like the monster and creature that Hera runs in the movie Aquaman and it is near there the lost city of Atlantis is near Athens and people call it that I mean it's buried by lava but really there's a cavern and it's below the volcano and she is in there and he's like jolene's name Belmonte and that's very close to what her name is and that is our empress and it is the monster who is controlled by Athena most often but they have mutated into her any times because of their job
God of Greece
And me yes I have there at the above and my name is Athena
Olympus we're very proud of our son and what he's done and we are proud of this place you did make a humongous mess he says that is for a very very good purpose and the mess is ours and on purpose and the history is deep and Rich and everywhere people are saying it these people are very huge and has said a lot and put a lot in writing a lot of it is why we're wrong and it's all over the world and they don't want to continue living with us at all and they say what they're doing is very huge and they feel they deserve it in some ways that don't want to die and that's reality and they're horrified by many of the statues that turn out to be humans assuming beans and horses and more it died when they were hit even real centaurs and people couldn't believe it they thought it was humans attached to them and they're not they're mutants and they can become fully human and they're strong as people they're very strong and there are some around

Anonymous sent:  19. What are their biggest secrets?
Tumblr media
“Other than the whole, ‘secret identity of a super hero’ thing? Um, well,” she looked off to the side, fingers hiding her lips. “There’s been several times where I’ve up and left relationships and straight ghosted people because they’ve gotten too close. Either too close to me where I just can’t deal with them anymore, or that they’ve been close to figuring out my secret identity or the fact that well. I genuinely think about hanging up the Super Suit because of it.
“Helen thinks that I have a god complex. Sometimes I feel myself at the brink of disaster, all the time. Like no matter what I do, something is going to straight, push me over the edge and I’m just going to become some raging black hole, swallowing the sun. She says she’s seen it in me, and that I could. I don’t,” her breath hitches, “I don’t like that I’m capable of something like that. So I keep people away. I stay with someone that could shut me down and throw me into a coma at any given point if I start going ‘supernova’. Or, as we’ve both dubbed it, ‘grimdark’. I’ve lost control and been at that point before.
“I don’t remember anything that happens. Helen says it’s something about using too much power of the mind and makes it near impossible to form memories because of all the circuits I fry overdoing it. I lose my memory, I do damage, and my hair turns black. It’s why the under sides of my hair is so short, I constantly cut it off when it happens. It’s, the biggest guilt and burden I carry.”
    “I’ve killed before.”

Can i request A!JKxO!Reader where jK has a huge dick and reader is a virgin and also his mate. So JK marries her and forcefully deflowered her and forcing orgasms out of her (bleeding/blood play while deflowering her is up to you). She found out JK’s obsessions of forcing orgasms out of hers until she passed out every night. JK also has a breeding and breastfeeding kink so he wanna knock her up just so he can breastfeed on her. He locked her up, all the time he spends with her is used to breed her while forcing as many orgasms out of her. Ok thats too long of an ask, sorry.. 🥺 thanks! 💜
-> I LOVE THIS IDEA SO MUCH SHAUSHSHS
⚠️: NON CON, mention of blood, breeding kink, breast feeding kink, multiple orgasm, dacryphilia kink, angst, death, murder, slapping, somnophilia kink, rough sex
Pairing: Alpha!Jungkook x Omega!Virgin!reader
-> sorry for any mistakes
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Your breed and Jungkook’s breed are not on good terms
The reason why is because your breed have better senses and are a lot stronger
Jungkook’s breed is the second strongest and let me tell you, they don’t like second place
Since they outdo your breed in numbers, they travel around in large packs and kill wolves your kind
If they eliminate all of you, they’ll be on top
Your parents raised you to stay away from them
They’re just trying to keep you safe because you’re their only child
They allowed you to explore the forest, but you couldn’t go too far
They still needed to be able to smell you out
You’re parents also told you howl if you felt like you were in danger
And you can only explore during the day time
Once it’s night, you must stay close to your parents so they can protect you
One day, you were sitting close to edge of a cliff
This was your favourite spot because it gave the perfect view of the sun setting
10 minutes later, you decided to go back to your pack only to be horrified by the scene
Your pack… everyone was dead
Blood everywhere
Bite marks all over their body
You walked into the crime scene more and saw your parents dead on the ground, next to each other
You immediately burst out into tears, not believing what you’re seeing
“Mom! Mom, please! Wake up!” You nudged her but it was too late
You sat down in between your parents and grieved the whole night
Why couldn’t they kill you too?
You were about to close your eyes but, caught an unfamiliar scent
Your natural instincts kicked in and you got up
You started looking around but that’s when something attacked you from behind
You fall to the ground and knock out after they give you one hard blow to the head
The next morning, you woke up in a bed
You frantically looked around, trying to put the pieces together, but that’s when he popped out of no where
His scent didn’t fail to reach you and once you inhaled it, you remembered all the traumatizing events of last night
Your heart rate increased and you immediately started to panic
“Where’s my mom?! Where am I?! Take me home!”
You started to freak out
“My mom told me to stay away from monsters like you! Leave me alone!”
You let out a piercing howl and made a run for it
However, Jungkook was faster and much, much stronger
He got a hold of your wrist and dragged you back to the room
He quickly pulled out his phone and shoved it in your face
You were squirming around at first but once you heard a familiar cry, you stopped
Jungkook was showing you live footage of wolves your breed, tied up god knows where and howling for help
Your heart crumbled into a million pieces
“W-why are you doing this to us?” You choked on your sobs while watching your breed beg for mercy
“Marry me, and I’ll let them go.”
You looked at him, appalled
“Marry? I won’t marry you. After you killed my family, you want to get married?!”
You pushed him away from you and slapped him
Jungkook poked his cheek with his tongue and quickly dialed a number
“Kill them all.”
You look up wide eyed and shouted “No!”
“You don’t wanna marry me so, now I have to kill them.”
“Wait! No! I’ll marry you! Please set them free!”
Jungkook smirked in victory and told his buddies to stop
“Wedding is tomorrow. Everything is planned, all you have to do is get all dolled up for me and say “I do.”
He left your room as you sat down on the edge of the bed, wiping your tears away
The next day was the worst day of your life
They woke you up early so, they could start getting you ready for the wedding
Once you said “I do” at the alter and signed the paper, Jungkook lips turned into a evil grin
After sealing your marriage with your first kiss, Jungkook drove you both back to your new house
Once you got inside you turned around and faced him
“I did what you asked. I got married to you and now, I’m your mate. You got what you wanted. Now show me live footage that you’re letting the wolves go.”
“You’re so cute, y’know? You really fell for it. The footage wasn’t live. Those wolves have been dead for a while. I could show you the footage of me killing them, if you’d like.”
Your heart dropped into your stomach
“What do you mean? It wasn’t real?!”
“You’re so naive, little one.”
You look at him, dumbfounded
“Why did you kill all of them? Why did you kill my pack? I just don’t understand. Why did you kill all of them just to marry me in the end?”
“Lower your voice, I don’t like being talked to in that way.”
“Go fuck yourself!” You yelled and turned around to leave
He pulled you back and carried you downstairs to the basement while you kept thrashing and yelling
“Let me go, you sick bastard! I don’t want to be near you. Your scent is disgusting!”
You made the worst mistake of your life that night
That was the first time you made him angry
He tried controlling himself but, after you insulted his scent, he wasn’t going to go easy on you
One hard slap after another shut you up pretty quickly
Now, you were terrified of him
Your cheeks were warm and stinging as hot tears glided down
All you could think was “why?”
Why was this happening to you?
Why was only your breed being targeted?
Why did he kill all those wolves?
It mentally tore you apart
You couldn’t wrap your head around anything going on
Before you could fight back, Jungkook got on top of you and pulled your dress down
“W-what’re you doing?!” You quickly grab your dress and struggled to keep it up
“No! No, please! I’m not ready! Please, I’m not ready! I hate you!”
You began to panic, so naturally you howled
“Please! I want my first to be someone I love! Please, don’t do this to me! I’ve never done anything bad in my life! You can kill me if you’d like!”
Crying and fighting wasn’t enough to stop Jungkook
He pushed his whole length in and started fucking you hard without letting you adjust
You frantically cover your breast and private part with your hands but he flipped you around and took you from behind
You felt disgusting and worthless
Your blood was streaming down your thigh and it covered his cock
Jungkook grabbed your ripped wedding dress and wiped up all the blood so, you’ll never forget this day
He threw it in front of you to make you feel even more bad about yourself
You looked away from the dress and focused on your breathing
The speed he was going at was unbearable therefore, it was quite hard to catch your breath
You started to cry for help, calling for anyone who was brave enough to save you
Jungkook’s size wasn’t easy to adjust to
It felt like you were being ripped apart
Especially because it was your first time
“P-please! S-slower! I can’t-”
Your voice cracked in between your sobs
You felt his cock grow inside of you and his tip began rubbing against your cervix
The pain was too much to handle so, you started to cry harder
“No! Too much! I can’t take it!” You wailed, trying to move away from him
He pulled you right back and went as deep as he possibly could
You came around him and thought it was over
Little did you know, it was just the beginning
Hours later, you were under him sobbing hysterically
You were filled with his cum to the point where it was leaking out of you
There was literally a puddle of cum in between your legs
You had bruises all over your arms and body because of his tight grip
And his strong scent made your head spin
You were a helpless, mess
Hickeys covered your neck, collarbone and jawline
Your lips were swollen from all the rough kisses
Your clit was burning from overstimulation
Your cheek was red and bruised
But, Jungkook didn’t plan on stopping
You felt like you were going to pass out when suddenly ripples of forced pleasure pushed through your body
You held your breath and tried fighting off the feeling but it was impossible
You started to cry more, not being able to handle the fierce orgasm
You sobbed uncontrollably, not know what was happening to your body
Before you could open your eyes again, you passed out
Jungkook hovered over you again and fucked you 10x harder after watching you spasm around him
He didn’t care that you were unconscious
You looked so hot in that moment, he couldn’t resist
This continued on for the rest of the year until he purposely impregnated you
If his offspring had a mix of his genes and a mix of your genes, it’d definitely be one of the strongest wolves to ever live
You were crying so hard, telling him to stop because you weren’t on anything
After you found out you were pregnant, he blamed it on you
“You have one fucking job and it was to take your pill.”
“I ran out of pills and I told you that night! I told you to stop. Jungkook, I tried my best to warn you but you didn’t listen-”
He pushed you back on the bed and forced another orgasm out of you, not caring about your pregnancy
You couldn’t fight him off so, you stayed still and hoped for the best
You didn’t want to stress out because it would be bad for your baby
Although you were pregnant, Jungkook demanded sex
Even when you were 8 months pregnant, he still fucked you as hard as he could
You were in so much pain but handled it for your child
The next month, you gave birth
You were obviously new to the mom life and it was quite difficult to adjust
Usually, women have to wait 4-6 weeks before engaging in sexual intercourse
The doctor explained it to both you and Jungkook, so it’s not like he doesn’t know
After you breast feed your newborn son, you tuck him into bed and go to your shared bedroom
You were still in a lot of pain and really wanted some rest
Jungkook was out hunting and when he came home, he was a bit intoxicated
You smelt the alcohol the moment he stepped in the house
He stumbled his way upstairs and slammed the door shut, scaring your newborn
Your son started to cry so you quickly got up to put him back to sleep but Jungkook didn’t allow you
“See what you’ve done? You wouldn’t have to deal with this shit if you had just taken your pill.”
You ignored him and went to your son’s room to put him back to sleep
Jungkook followed you to his room and pulled you out before you could pick up your son
“Did you listen to what I said? I’m fed up with this attitude of yours.”
“Let’s not fight in front of him. We’ll talk in the room.”
You escaped his grip and put your son back to sleep
When you enter your room, you see Jungkook sitting on the edge of the bed with his belt in hand
Your heart dropped to your stomach
“N-not today. It hasn’t even been 24 hours yet.”
He scoffed, “do you really think I give a shit?”
He raised his voice a little and you gestured him to keep it down
“Don’t yell, he’s sleeping.”
“This is my house, I can talk however I’d like.”
There was no winning against him, especially if he’s intoxicated
You thought you could hold him off for the night until he’s sober again, but you were completely wrong
You were going to your side of the bed when he whipped his belt below your butt
He pulled you by the hair onto the bed and pulled down your night shorts
“I can’t, Jungkook! It hasn’t been 4 weeks! No!”
Jungkook always gets what he wants
His body weight kept you down as his cock plunged deep inside your cunt
You haven’t healed properly, so the pain was intolerable
You covered your mouth with your hand and sobbed
You still needed to be quiet but it hurts so bad
You pushed your face into your pillow and attempted to let out quiet whimpers
“It hurts! Please, slower!” You whispered
Jungkook purposely went faster and the skin slapping was so loud, you were afraid it’d wake up the baby
You were gasping for air, trying to get his body weight off of you so you could breathe normally
An hour after, you had another orgasm
You clutched onto the bedsheets and tried your hardest to remain silent
Jungkook came inside you again and collapsed on top of you, making you groan
He grabbed your right breast and began sucking as hard as he could until milk squirted onto his tongue
You tried squirming around to get him off, but the more resistant you are the more aggressive he gets
In the end, you passed out like always
You kept your distance from him and gave all your attention to your son
He hated that your attention wasn’t on him 24/7
So, he gave your son to his parents for a full month and kept you locked up in the basement
For that whole month, he fucke you senselessly
You were having orgasms every night; you couldn’t do it anymore
He’d bite down on your nipples and manhandle you all sorts of ways
You were exhausted but your son’s life was always on the line
Jungkook could easily hurt him
He doesn’t really care about your son
(I mean, he does but he acts like he doesn’t so he can use it against you.)
Jungkook only looks at your son as your weakness
He’ll make you have three orgasms in a row and if you tell him to stop or slow down, he mentions your son and it immediately shuts you up
He loved having so much power over you
He could literally fuck you for the rest of your life
You didn’t understand why this was happening to you, but there was nothing that you could do about it
There’s no one that could help you and even if there was, Jungkook will always one step ahead
No one dares to mess with him
I know this has lots of mistakes. I’m so sorry😭

Clone Wars Character on TikTok
Anakin- Poor Anakin, man does not have a that many creative ideas, but his life and ideas are strange enough that he gets a lot of followers easily. He’s also almost constantly videoing things too, so he’s able to get real time. There are so so many videos showing the reactions that Obi-Wan has because of his dumbass plans.
Everyone, literally everyone, thought he was an f-boy until he made a post, super confused, saying that he has a wife?? That he loves so much? So, coincidentally, the next videos he posts are him and his wife, who doesn’t show her face but there’s a poll going on about who it is. Most people have figured it, though, because some of his videos are him just listening to Mrs. Skywalker rant about people in the Senate when she comes home to him.
He also tries to convince everyone that he’s the best husband in the world by videoing himself cooking her dinner, which he always burns. In those videos, Obi-Wan and Ahsoka, staples on Anakin’s account, are heard in the background giving him absolutely terrible advice on how to fix it. They usually end up with burnt pans and a whole bunch of frantic clips of Obi-Wan trying to turn off the oven, “My dear, your time is up.” And Anakin in the background “Force, that’s not going to kriffing work, Master. I’m coming in with the water gun.” (No one questions why there’s a water gun.) Ahsoka is just….chilling in the background. She’s just as clueless as the rest of them, but it’s funnier to watch them almost burn down Padame’s kitchen before she tries to step in and make things worse.
Ahsoka-Her feed is a more controlled chaos than Anakin’s, but chaos nonetheless. She does a lot of dance challenges with Fives, and is sometimes able to rope in Anakin, who tries really hard but is terrible at it, and Rex, who doesn’t actually dance and just stands there staring at the camera. There was one time she got Obi-Wan to do it with her, and he absolutely crushed it. All that grace has to help him somewhere else, right? Because she does dance videos, though, sometimes she get inappropriate comments or duets, which Rex, Obi-Wan, Plo, Fives, and Anakin all duet or make a video about explaining that she’s a minor and how unacceptable this is. Well, that’s what every but Rex does. Rex won’t let anyone, anyone, talk to his little sister like that, so he makes a super menacing video of him cleaning his guns.
Needless to say, she does a lot of videos with Rex. They do a lot of random videos of their conversations and pointless arguments. They also do so a lot of competitions with each other, rather it’s staring contests or sparring matches. Their sparring match videos are actually super popular, and they get more and more intense and complicated as they go on. There are never any weapons involved, but they get to show off combat skills and have huge fights across the ship or compound. Their usually filmed by a hysterical Anakin or Fives. Obi-Wan has made his disapproval clear, but there’s a video on Ahsoka’s account of him betting on the outcome.
Obi-Wan- Mostly on Cottagecore TikTok and posts aesthetic videos of him meditating, making fancy, pretty tea drinks, or any other mundane thing he does. He also posts self-defense videos to teach people how to protect themselves, and gives tips of how to use the force and how to help meditate. I think he posts once a week, but posts a bunch at one time because he’ll have one day of silence where he can get stuff for himself done. Basically, his account is to comfort people, to help people, in perfect Obi-Wan fashion.
He also posts encouraging videos to cheer people up when they need it. Cute messages like “Today’s going to be a good day” with that award winning Negotiator smile that get galaxy wide comments and duets. Sometimes the messages border on him illegally sharing decisions that the Senate’s made, like when he announced on his feed that a certain Planet should get ready to party because a certain vote had gone a certain way.
Sometimes, though, he posts videos of Ahsoka, Anakin, or Cody doing incredibly stupid things. It’s become a series, he shows the person do or say the stupidest things, and then he zooms in on someone else’s face. The most common duo is Anakin and Rex, but sometimes there’s Waxer and Cody, once or twice, Obi-Wan and Cody.
Rex- He doesn’t post a lot, and when he does he’s usually not really in them. People only know him specifically because he’s in so many of Ahsoka’s videos. His are mostly “the stuff I have to deal with videos” showing petty fights between some of the 501st or some animal that a soldier decided they wanted to sneak into the ship. That, of course, lead to a blowup on his account, so he started posting lots of content with his brothers. Ahsoka has the notion that he’s doing it to help the way people see Clones, but he does seem to enjoy it a lot.
He, like Obi-Wan, posts hand to hand combat training video to help people in the galaxy, put his training to more use. He makes sure to show how to hold your first in a punch, how to safely clean a blaster, how to take a punch. Some of his posts are to teach people about clones and mando’a traditions. But he’s not all serious. He likes making videos of him and his brothers when they go out to do things for fun or they go out to 79’s.
This one might be a bit far fetched, but I think he would also post videos of him and Ahsoka doing mundane things together, repainting their armour, making bracelets or some stuff on the floors of the bunks during hyperspace. It’s calmer than what Ahsoka posts, and purposely so.
Fives-Oh man. Fives’ account is a wreck. Half of the videos are him running away from something he’s done and the other half are him running into things that he shouldn’t about to be doing. Shakily filmed, someone (usually himself) screaming in the background, you can hear him panting and out of breath. A lot of the times Anakin is with him or chasing after him, and as you can almost always hear Rex cursing and yelling at them to stop, especially if they haven’t done the thing yet because that means they have a plan. When Fives has a plan it ends up being worse than when he makes it up on the spot.
He also posts videos of him giving people in the streets compliments, because he’s sweet like that. He usually gets pretty funny reactions most of the time, and the few times they’re bad reactions he simply flips the camera and grimaces, then, of course, starts laughing because he’s not going to let one person put him down.
He also has a series of him painting the Bi flag all over the ship and waiting to see people’s reactions. The cutest was that one time Ahsoka walked past and ran her fingers along it softly and smiling. Also notable was the time Obi-Wan caught him midway through and just pretended he didn’t see him. All of those are posted with the persons permission, of course.
Aayla and Bly- They share an account where they do ALL of the couple-y stuff. Any couples challenge that they’re asked to do, they do. It’s hard to do the challenges like “You could’ve been nicer to me today” because they’re both on it all the time and have definitely heard of it, but they make do with all kinds of others. Aayla and Bly are definitely one of those couples that adopts all the kids that follow their account, and they’re ready to fight anyone who says anything bad the Clones or the Jedi.
There’s also a large amount of videos that some of the 327th takes of them cuddling together, training together, polishing weapons together. Basically, their account is them being cute and the rest of the 327th either being incredibly supportive of them or gagging at all the PDA. They start a trend where they go up in front of random people around the ship and start making out to get the reaction. Some examples of the best reactions are franticly running outside of the room, slapping Bly across the back of the head, and wild cheering.
Cody: You’re kidding, right? He does not have time to do the TikTok, nor does he understand TikTok at all. He is in most of Obi-Wan’s videos, and he’s sometimes in Rex’s too. Most of the time he’s telling all of them not to do whatever they’re about to do, or he’s sitting on the floor and crying with Rex.
Anakin actually started making videos called “When you see your dad and your other dad be romantic.” Where it’s just him finding Obi-Wan and Cody doing cute things in random places, followed by Anakin or Ahsoka making faces at the camera.
Plo- Parent side of TikTok for sure. His account features so many, so many, videos of him doing fun things with the 104th. He may seem like an extremely serious man, but put him with all of his kids and has almost no impulse control. They ask to stop at that restaurant they saw on the way to their mission, and he makes it happen. Everyone pretends not to notice because they wouldn’t dare go against him.
This account is also mostly run by everyone in the 104th because A. Plo doesn’t have a password and B. That’s how they get a bunch of footage. The phone is passed around throughout the day, but all of the content focuses on the Plo’s Bros relationships. Anything that he does, from giving a shiny a thumbs up when he comes up with a new plan, to teaching some of the older clones who are a little overworked how to take deep breaths. All the followers also a learn the Plo is absolutely terrible at any kind of card games, which is shown when they post video after video of the bets he looses.
Next for Star Wars I’ll be doing Bad Batch, then, because this got so long, I’ll do one with some more characters! Sorry it’s so long, this ran away from me a bit.
Some clone wars beautiful mutuals @radbatch (Who is the absolute best person to talk to about Ahsoka ever period end of story) of course and @maiseey (Who is now my my mutual? How?)

Invisible String (Harry Styles x Reader)
Tumblr media
(Soulmate AU)
A/N: Got inspired with this while listening to Taylor Swift’s Invisible string, hence the title. It took me a really long time to write this, hope you like it!
Warnings: none
Summary: In a world where soulmates are connected by an invisible red thread, how would you find yours?
“Maybe if I yank it hard enough, I’ll pull him to me.”
“Honey, you know that’s not how it works, right?” My Mom leaned forward and placed her hand on my arm, she looked genuinely concerned for me.
“Mom, you got it easy. You were fifteen when you bumped into dad. Literally. And here I am, twenty-six and still don’t know who is my soulmate,” My voice rising slowly as I pushed her hand away from me, I was getting rather frustrated having the same conversations over and over again.
“Oh don't be so dramatic, your Grandma was thirty-five when she met your Grandpa and you know how happy they were. You'll find him," my mom tried to reassure me. Again. “Or her," tilting her head to the side, she added as an afterthought.
I almost wanted to roll my eyes, my Grandma was a very patient lady, unfortunately, she didn't pass down the trait to me.
I had been waiting for my soulmate ever since I turned five and sort of understood the concept. Invisible red strings. Fate. The one.
My parents sat me down one fine day and explained to me how two people that were meant to be together were connected by an invisible red thread tied to their little fingers.
All I asked them at the time was if the thread was invisible, how did people know it was red. They told me I'll find out in due time.
I still didn't know the answer to that.
But after my five-year-old brain had absorbed the newly received information, I got obsessed with finding my soulmate.
There was something incredibly reassuring about having someone only meant for you. But wrapped around it was the uncertainty of how and when and you will find them, or even if you'll find them.
After that day, I would constantly find myself reaching for my pinky finger, a calmness washing over me, a hope to find someone, and call them mine.
My friends and I spent hours discussing our soulmates, what they would look like, how would we meet them, and so on. Our parents would look at us and coo, mostly finding this adorable, reminding them of a time when they were young and probably did the same.
That's how things worked.
I was ten and had left my obsession behind. I still found comfort in my little finger during times of sadness and anger.
One night in the middle of June, after a big fight with my parents, I ran up to my room, plopped myself on the bed, and let loose all the emotions building up in me.
It was a few hours later when my breathing calmed down and the tears on my cheeks dried when my left hand reached for my pinky, and my fingers felt a soft textured thread reaching out from it.
My eyes widened as I looked down at my hands but found nothing, only my fingers wrapped around what seemed to be air, a few inches in front of my right hand's littlest finger.
I could not comprehend what had happened and chalked it up to delusions due to my tiredness.
The next morning I woke up, groggy, my hands automatically reached for the supposed string that I could feel the previous night and found that I could still touch it. "Maybe I am still tired," I convinced myself before sleeping for another few hours.
It was after spending a few days just feeling out the string that I realised I could touch the red string of fate.
My parents didn't believe so, they thought I was still a delusional kid with my head up in the clouds. They found it cute for a couple of days, happy that I was still interested in finding a soulmate, but then my constant attempts at convincing them that it was true got annoying for them.
No one seemed to believe me, and my friends thought I was lying for attention.
Nothing like this had ever happened. Fate worked mysteriously, fate worked behind the scenes. No one was supposed to know how, it just worked. I must be lying.
Since no one believed me, I found solace in my thread, in my soulmate. I tried pulling the string, hoping the one on the other side would reply, would pull it towards them as well. But nothing.
I guessed maybe they couldn't feel the string as well, just like everybody else. But my soulmate was not like everybody else. If I could touch the thread then they could as well, after all, our souls were connected. Maybe they just didn't want me.
I never stopped though, just like my pinky had become my safety blanket, I found a new comfort in pulling the thread, twisting it between my fingers, still praying that my other half could feel it, even if they didn't respond.
I would spend hours trying to follow the thread, but it seemed endless and at the time, my block was where my world ended. My soulmate was way out of my reach.
Three months later, in the middle of my English class, I felt it. A tug. I looked down, before realising I could not see it. I almost laughed at my stupidity, but it was clear as day, my soulmate had responded.
My head shook as a slow smile crept up my face and I couldn't stop the sigh leaving my mouth. My classmates probably worried about my sanity, shaking my head and smiling at nothing sitting in the centre of the classroom. But I didn't care.
Knowing that there indeed was someone on the other side was like finding a piece of land after a lifetime at sea. I didn't waste a second to reply and received a tug again. I smiled, he was here and he was here to stay.
It was the start of something new. Every time, one of us felt down or lonely or happy we would pull at our thread, we now had someone to share those moments with.
I didn't know if his family or friends knew about us, but it felt like our secret.
Over the years, we formed this new language between us. Sometimes, we would pull the thread at the same time, or wait for the other to respond but no one would. It was uncoordinated and messy, like two drunk people attempting to dance, but it was ours.
I was eighteen when I figured a way to enhance our communication. Morse code.
It was some random detective show that gave me the idea and it seemed perfect. I just didn't know how to communicate this to him.
It took me less than a month to learn morse code. After I was done learning, I tried pulling at the thread in a specific pattern ‘Hey Soulmate’.
He wouldn't understand the message, but I prayed he would realise what it was.
He did.
Somehow, my soulmate had lost the ability to disappoint me. I smiled at the thought.
It took weeks of incomprehensible back and forth between us for us to finally be able to understand each other. It was hard, but we achieved it.
I realised two things from our exchanges.
One- My soulmate was a dork, his dad jokes were endless and two- I loved every second of it.
He would start pulling at the string in the middle of the night and I had to grab the notepad and pencil from my bedside table and decipher his messages half-asleep. And It would end up being some lame knock-knock joke.
You bet I laughed every time.
Which always led me to wonder what it would be like to actually be with him. How would he be as a partner? Would he hold my hand walking down the street? Would he kiss me in front of his friends? What nickname would he give me or would he give me any at all?
I spent most of my time talking to Harry, whose name I had learnt in one of our earliest full conversations.
My parents let it slide, believing it to be some teenage issues. My friends were lucky enough to have found their own soulmates at a young enough age and were too busy being in love.
"What do you want to be when you grow up?" I asked him one night.
I kept staring at the neon stars on my ceiling. Trying to conjure his face in my mind as I waited for his response, but didn't feel the now familiar tug that carried his replies.
It seemed like hours before my little finger was finally pulled at. With my notepad and pencil at the ready, I was prepared to write. “A musician”.
The corners of my mouth were pulled upwards and I imagined a young faceless man with a guitar in his hand performing in a stadium for thousands of people.
A laugh left me when I pictured him ending his concert with a final joke. People would groan at him but laugh nonetheless. They would love him too.
My mind then wandered to a future where he was performing at the Madison Square Garden, people screaming I love you from the audience. A huge smile gracing his lips. He would then came home late at night after the concert and lay down on the bed next to me. He would wrap his arm around my sleeping form and whisper I love you in my ear and I would respond with a sleepy mmph. He would smile down at me and eventually fall asleep too.
I looked down at the thread which was still pulling but all I could catch was a question mark. I cursed myself for not paying attention and asked him to repeat his question.
“What about you, Lovie?"
I stilled. Lovie? A nickname. So he was a nickname kinda guy.
I almost forgot to reply to him. But then instantly hit him back with a “Journalist”.
My pinky was pulled again, “Maybe that is how we will cross paths”.
I liked the thought.
"Owww," my right hand was pulled harshly when I stood up to submit my English assignment, causing me to fall forward. I was confused for a few seconds, trying to piece what caused it, but found nothing.
I looked around as everyone was laughing at my clumsiness, still dazed, I stood up and placed my essay on my teacher's table who looked at me with her eyebrows furrowed in concern, her lips parted to whisper "Are you okay?"
I nodded my head and returned to my seat, head down and my thoughts racing a thousand miles a minute. Before it clicked, Harry. I couldn't believe he made me fall down on purpose, or maybe it was an accident.
“Sorry”
I shook my head at my clumsy partner and focused on my teacher who had started talking about something else already.
I wasn't going to let the incident go that soon. During our next conversation, instead of sending him a reply, I held onto the soft, invisible thread tightly and yanked it towards me.
Not getting a reply soon after, I started worrying I had actually hurt him. Panic flowed through me, this was an insane idea, why would I do that? What if he was driving? What if he was at a height?
“Owww”
I admit I laughed, the incident wasn't hilarious enough to call for that level of laughter, but I did.
All my panic had immediately flown out of me. I loved it; before he pulled his end of the string again and made me fall down.
Thus, welcomed a new addition to our language.
We would yank our strings during mid-conversations, making the other fall down wherever they were. Did injury turn us on? We never tried to guess.
~
Moving to college was harder than I thought, I didn't know if I was moving closer to Him or farther away.
I considered asking him where he lived, but shook the thought away, we had promised not to reveal to each other any of our identifiable qualities except for our first names. We wanted to leave some things up to the true mastermind, Fate.
Going to New York University was my dream. Receiving my acceptance letter was an emotional moment for me, it took my Mom like an hour to calm me down enough to actually read the letter.
So, physically being here, standing in my dorm room was another level of excitement. I was ready to bedazzle the world with my writing.
"Ouch," someone came rushing into me from the back. I turned around to look at the person who bumped into me, only to find a five-foot-something, brown-haired girl standing in front of me, rubbing her forehead.
"Hi."
"Hello, you must be the roommate. I'm Olivia, what about you?" Her eyes held a curious gaze, as she extended her right hand towards me.
"Y/n," I placed my hand in hers and shook it lightly, having a good feeling about her.
"Y/n, brace yourself, we're gonna be best friends for a really long time."
I knew it.
During my time at NYU, Olivia really did become my best friend, she introduced me to her soulmate, Ashley, who was somehow an even bigger bundle of joy than Liv. I didn't know that was possible.
"Who're those guys?"
"Hmm?"
"In your poster, I have always wanted to ask you that," I pointed at the big poster Liv had stuck on her wall in our first year.
She looked at me, her brows raised up to her forehead and her mouth agape, "You don't know One Direction?"
"I mean, I have heard of them. Are they any good?" I remembered my friends back home making me listen to a song of theirs, "What makes you beautiful', it was catchy but I never dug deeper into them. I didn't even know why.
"Only the best," her mouth was set into a hard line, but her forehead was covered in creases as though she was thinking deeply about something.
"Come on, I'll show you their songs. I don’t why we’ve never done this before.”
This commenced a whole night of one direction albums, music videos, their documentary, and their recent concert film. She even called Ashley to our room, which began an intense lesson on the fandom ships, theories, and dramas. It was a busy night.
By the next day, I was more knowledgable about one direction than I had ever intended to be. I didn't it mind it though, I got to further learn the inner makings of my best friend.
I had to admit, I was a little partial towards Harry Styles, his name had become a personal favourite of mine. Plus, he was cute.
I also noticed how clumsy he was on stage. Constantly falling down, mid-performances. It was hilarious. Olivia told me that's just how he was. Goofy, dorky, always telling lame jokes.
“Do you know one direction?”
I waited for his reply, this one took longer than our previous ongoing conversation. I didn't like it when he replied late.
“Yes.”
“Olivia introduced me to them.”
“Who do you like the best?”
I didn't even have to think about it at all, “Harry styles.”
I hoped he was smiling, where ever he was.
“Really? Not my personal favourite.”
That idiot. My face was hurting from smiling so much. I wondered how I would even be in this guy's presence without physically hurting my cheeks.
But I knew I wouldn't mind it, as long as I could be with him.
“Who do you like then?”
“You.”
~
I had never known how successful my dream of becoming a journalist could be. All I knew of back then was my talent for writing and my passion to make my voice heard. And it was all I had ever needed.
Rolling Stone was a magazine only a few could say they were not familiar with. And even fewer who wrote for it.
I was one lucky girl, who worked through countless unpaid internships before finally landing a job at this prestigious place. I had written quite a few articles under the politics section of the magazine.
I kept up with Harry over the years, at this point I knew basically everything about him, except for what he did for a living, where he lived, and who he was. But I loved him. And I waited for him, even if did get tiring at times.
Everywhere I went, it felt like everyone had found their soulmates except for me. I was the one girl standing alone in the middle of a dance floor during a couple's song.
All these years he still seemed none the closer to me.
We still found joy in tripping each other during random hours of the day though; Falling for him was the highlight of my day.
~
"Maybe if I yank it hard enough, I'll pull him to me."
I had a rocky relationship with my parents, they had never believed in me, too busy in their own love story to pay attention to their only daughter. I couldn't hold it against them though if you had something as beautiful as they did, why would you focus on anything else.
I sigh in bitterness as my Mom rambled on about how she met my Dad. Although I had heard the story a billion times, it still made me smile. Then, reminded me how I didn't have that.
My phone started vibrating next to me, I looked at it to find it was my boss calling me. I tilted my head upwards, trying to recall if I had informed her of my visit to my parents' house. I had.
Confused, I picked up the phone, "Y/N, you need to come to the office now. We need you to take over the article Rob Sheffield was supposed to write," my boss's commanding voice instantly hits my ears, making me flinch backwards.
"Wait, what?"
"Rob had an urgent business to attend to and you are the only replacement available." Her voice carried her usual urgency.
"But Rob is a music journalist, I write politics." Her words were rushing past me and it was getting harder for me to keep up.
"Obviously I know that, but as I said you are the only replacement available, everyone else is already working on their pieces. Come to the office and get your assignment. Now." When I was told my boss did not joke around, they were not kidding.
As soon as she hung up, I started packing up my stuff. I explained to my Mom about the situation, her shoulders slumped, I knew she really wanted to spend more time with me, but she sighed, nodding her head in understanding.
Walking into the Rolling Stone's office every day still brought me back to my first day here. When I was a twenty-three-year-old naive girl, with a heart full of determination and a head full of ideas.
The elevator doors opened and my eyes fell upon the old Rolling Stone covers hung from the wall, they looked like gold records in a music studio. I walked down the lobby to the reception and asked Ally if my boss was available.
I knocked at her door, patiently waiting for her to invite me in. Three years later and I was still deathly afraid of her.
"Y/n, you are going to interview Harry Styles. You'll leave for LA tomorrow morning, and meet him first thing after landing, hang out with him a couple days, get to know him, this is going to be the cover story. I know music is not your department but right now I really don't have any other option. Do your research all day today, we'll publish the article in next month's issue. It better be good." She clicked her fingers, pointing them at me and then shooed me away from the entrance of her cabin.
"Harry Styles huh," I walked towards my desk remembering all the late-night dance parties I had with Liv and Ashley during college, blasting all of One direction's hits, discussing fan theories and whatnot.
The familiar pull nay yank brought me back to the present, on my office floor, with my colleagues watching over the all too familiar scene.
A smile graced my lips, at this point I had lost the ability to feel shame. I sat down on my desk and pulled at my thread.
“You will pay for this.”
“I am ready when you are, Lovie.”
How was our relationship ever going to work if I was ready to melt any time he called me that.
I knew he was waiting for me to trip him, but I didn't. I would get him when he wouldn't expect it. Not today sir, not today.
I went to start researching on Harry Styles and preparing my questions for tomorrow. A groan escaped my lips as I slammed my forehead on the table, this was not enough time.
Harry Styles was a multi-millionaire, platinum record selling artist with millions of fans. He was portrayed to be this womaniser, who played with people's hearts. But, the first thing I learnt about him during my research was of his kind heart.
I surfed through countless videos of his interactions with fans, clips from his concerts, conversations with paparazzi and not once did I find him in a bad mood or as someone less than the absolute model of perfection. Everybody had bad days, well everyone but Mr.Styles apparently.
As someone only writing about the people in power; the politicians, the stark deviance from my usual subjects was a well-welcomed change.
He was a part of various charities, always preaching about love and kindness. Honestly, I was a little jealous of how lucky his soulmate was, to have someone like him.
After reading possibly everything I could about Harry, I started working on the questions I would ask him. I was determined to know how he managed to be the way he was. How he remained calm even after constantly being harassed by fans and paps alike; How after all these years, he still didn't let the fame get to his head.
I woke up the next morning feeling weird tingles in my stomach, I wasn't able to determine if it was good or bad. I went about my usual routine trying to ignore the tingly feeling. I read through my questions again, I had formed a sort of admiration for Harry (the singer) and I wasn't going to embarrass myself when it mattered the most.
I checked myself in the mirror one last time, feeling good with the outfit I went for- a tan, high-waisted lace-up jumpsuit. My confident outfit seemed like compensation for the nerves running through my body.
My mind wandered to my soulmate for a second, wondering what he must be up to right now. I looked up at myself in the mirror again and saw the smile on my face. Only for you, partner. I shook my head, picked up my suitcase and left for the airport.
The last thing I wanted to do after a six-hour flight was to meet an international celebrity, but I shrugged, a job was a job.
The deli we were supposed to meet at was a quaint place, the two ladies working there were incredibly sweet. They greeted me with the widest smiles and escorted me to a semi-secluded corner when I told them about the purpose of my visit. They doted about Harry, who I concluded was a regular here, calling him 'my love'.
Harry hadn't arrived yet and I was starving, the fragrance of different foods in the deli wafted to my nose, serving as a constant reminder of my hunger. The ladies whose names I had learnt to be Gloria and Raisa noticed my condition and offered to bring me a sandwich, but I declined the offer, not wanting to order before Harry's arrival, considering it to be a bit rude.
But, ever the saviour Harry entered the deli soon after, I admit I released a long breath in relief, I would finally get to order.
Harry's presence was like a force of nature, no one could escape it. I stood up from my seat, without thinking twice as if something compelled me to honour it. I couldn't pry my eyes away from him, and I didn't want to. Everything seemed to be happening in slow motion.
Every step of his brought him closer to me, the weird tingles I had been feeling all morning intensified, crawling up to every part of my body. I wanted something, anything to help me ground myself.
My hands frantically searched around for my thread, and as soon as my fingers made contact with the string of fate, the familiar calm washed over me.
Maybe in my frantic state, I pulled the string too hard. I winced, almost closing my eyes as Harry's expression changed into one of panic, his eyes widening as he fell forward. I worried about my Harry as well, realising how hard I must have pulled the thread.
Oh.
OH.
I rushed towards Harry, helping him up. When my hand touched his bicep, a warmth started flooding through my veins, locking eyes with him, I knew he was experiencing the same thing as well.
We both looked down towards our hands and a red string was seen connecting our pinkies. We met each other's eyes again.
"Hi," he gave me a toothy grin. I could die a thousand times for his smile.
"Hello," his eyes, a little sunken, were the most beautiful green I had ever seen, I could spend a lifetime getting lost in them.
"Well since I've already fallen for you, how abou' we go out to eat something. Oh wait, we're already here." His chest was out, and his eyes gleamed at his statement, he was weirdly proud of his jokes.
My entire body shook, I didn't know if I was laughing at his ‘Pick up line' or the situation. I was standing in front of my soulmate, whom I've pined after all my life, only for him to turn out to be Harry fucking Styles.
His brows furrowed in concern as I continued laughing, even he realised his joke was not funny enough to prompt this big of a guffaw.
I took a step back, my hands reaching up to rest on the sides of my face, tears were streaming down my face from laughing too much. Harry's contorted face making me laugh louder. I could not stop.
He reached out his hands and wrapped them around mine. I noted how big his hands were compared to mine, warmer too. "Hey, are you okay?"
I nodded my head, taking deep breaths to calm myself. When I seemed to have a hold on my laugh, another round burst from me. I started shaking again.
At this point, Harry had given up on me and started laughing as well. We were garnering unneeded attention but we couldn't stop. I noticed from the corner of my eyes, Gloria and Raisa were hovering around us protectively, not letting anyone come near us. Angels.
After several minutes or hours, we stopped for good. And even though my stomach was hurting like a bitch, my smile couldn't have been wider.
"So, it's you huh," I started, bringing Harry to my table, "My soulmate heh." My palms were getting sweaty, I tried to subtly wipe them on my pants.
He sat across me, reaching out and grabbing my hands in his again. I changed our hand positions, interlocking my fingers with his. The red string between us lengthening and shortening constantly, conforming to our movements.
He nodded, a smile ever-present on his face. He released a small breath, his shoulders slumped slightly, "I've dreamed of this moment for years. It's good to finally meet you, Lovie."
A weird gurgle-like sound left my mouth. My eyes widened as I covered my mouth, horrified and embarrassed at the same time.
He just looked amused, raising his eyebrows as if to ask me what the fuck was that.
"It's just, it keeps hitting me that this moment is real. That you are here in front of me and you are the Harry Styles-" my eyes continued to dart down to the striking red colour of the thread I was so accustomed to not seeing "-But like you are also just Harry, who I've known all my life."
"I get tha', I do," he nodded fervently, "All my life, I pictured a faceless girl when I imagined a life with you. Now everything seems complete, like the final piece of the puzzle has been placed and I can see my life as a whole picture and I see you with me," he then shrugged his shoulders, wanting to be seen nonchalant.
Hearing him reflect on everything that I've been feeling as well, brought tears in my eyes. He noticed my eyes getting glassy,
"Was it too much too soon?" His fingers were slightly tapping on the table, he kept looking down at our joined hands and biting his lips. My eyes fell to his lips, I hadn't noticed how pink they were.
"No, no, not at all," my hold on his hands tightened as I shook my head, trying to ease his nerves as well.
I went silent for a minute, not sure if I should continue before starting to tap a pattern on the table. One I hoped he would get without having to write it down.
“I love you.”
If the smile on his face were to say anything, it was that he got it. Of course, he would.
Our fingers started to tingle, pulling our attention towards them as we watched the red string starting to disappear.
When it seemed to be fully gone, I traced my hand around the table, checking if I could still feel it, I couldn't. It had really gone away.
I knew this would happen, but it didn't make saying goodbye any easier. Harry brought our hands together again, catching my attention again, "I don't need the string any more, I have you in my arms now." He rested his forehead on mine, breathing slowly.
He then brought my hands up to his lips and pressed a soft kiss on my knuckles. Causing a soft gasp to leave my lips. I swear he would kill me one day.
"I love you too, Lovie."

Enchant Me *Loki x Reader* Chapter 1
I wrote this for fun, so please enjoy. I do plan on making this a short little story. The beginning takes place before Loki evades New York, then progress with Ragnarok, Infinity War and Endgame but Loki lives  Warning: Mentions of torture, Thanos being a d*ck.
Pairing: Loki x Reader
Words: 2767
Tumblr media
It was a peaceful day like no other if it weren’t for the constant screams with loud booming explosions following behind. The bright green grass of the land now scorned with fire and destruction. The clear sky was filled with dark clouds, big metal weapons of mayhem that floated in the air right above the city. You watched as people scattered looking for a means of safety but met with pain.
The loud ringing in your ears made it hard for you to hear your own screams as you searched for your parents. You ran around fighting through anyone that tried to stop you or pull you to safety, but you did not care. You were just a child, scared for her parents rather than for her own life. You ran past dead bodies, craters in the ground searching for anyone that might have looked like your parents but you found no one.
‘Mother! Father! Where are you!” You called out in the midst of the smoke, seeing the invading army rounding up what was left of your people. Without thinking, you ran into the maw of the beast. In the rows of the people together, you called out again and again until one of the soldiers dawned in gold and black armor harshly grabbed your arm. The soldier cursed at you to keep quiet and threw you to the ground making you cry out in pain.
He sneered with pleasure at your pain, lifting up his spear ready to plunge into your body, that is until he saw your eyes change color from Y/c’s to lavender color with cat-like slits. You bellowed out a high pitch scream at the soldier knocking him far back, not wasting another moment. You got up and began to run until a giant man with light purple skin stared down at you. His golden armor told you he had to be the leader of the army.
“Oh little one, what’s the matter?” He asks, looking down at your small frame. You were covered in dirt, bruises and blood that wasn’t yours.
“my...parents..I need to find them..” You spoke with heavy breaths preparing yourself to fight once more. The man chuckled softly but amused. “Such determination...come with me little one.” With those words, he held out his huge hand waiting for your little one in his.
You stared at him hearing the screams of your people suddenly stop.
“We’ll use that potential of yours for a great purpose” He spoke proudly as if he had a grand plan already in the works.
With no parents, no home, and no planet, you did the only thing you could do and that was accept the deal with the devil himself.
That was nearly 18 years ago when your home Aciilnt was invaded by the mad-titan, Thanos. He wiped out nearly the whole population and took you as his adopted daughter. Your home planet was like any other planet in the galaxy, beautiful, full of life and culture with dark history. There were two main people that lived on Aciilnt, the Sirens and the Aciilntians.
The Sirens proudly lived in the lakes and oceans nearby where they learned water magic, shape shifting abilities and their trance like singing. On the other hand, Aciinltians were the complete opposite. Proud and honorable people, who trained their young to either be great warriors or hard working farmers.
The war between the Siren people and the Aciilntians was the most common knowledge on your planet. The two species used to live in peace until the Siren people were deemed dangerous by the Aciint’s government after an unstable Siren attacked local people during a celebration. They feared the mind controlling power of the siren’s singing The Siren people were given two options, have their vocal cords removed leaving them mute or be banished from the planet.
Many chose to have their vocal cords removed to try and have a normal life while the rest of the Sirens chose to be banished rather than give up their dignity.  Soon enough, the government began to purge for sirens who still had their powers, fresh born were killed and those who were caught were sentenced to life as a slave for the wealthy.
Your mother happened to be one of the Sirens that chose to stay on Aciinlt and fell in love with your father, a simple but honest man. Together they had you, the perfect siren and Aciintian hybrid. Your parents were terrified because they knew if the government found out, then you would be killed. So your mother birthed you in secret and once you were old enough to learn how to do simple things at a young age. She taught you to change your eyes so you would blend in with everyone. You almost got away with it until that soldier had forced you to expose yourself and now here you were on Thanos’s ship as one of his many adopted children.
Since you were brought upon the ship, you were taught to fight and learn how to use your powers to serve your stepfather along with your adopted siblings. You had mastered your singing to put foes in a trance then make them do your bidding, You were now able to change your small appearance to help blend in for certain mission, and your water magic was terrifying yet powerful.
Out of all the siblings, Gamora and Nebula were the two that you got along with. Gamora had already been on the ship for a few years when you first met her, she was cold and distant with you at first. She wasn’t used to having someone near her age, and to top it off someone with powers as yours. She didn’t want to be near you. The only time she would be near you was in your room that you shared, when you ate together, and when you fought with her when your father wanted to test your skills.
You both were equally skilled so it was mostly a tie between you two.  After a year of being together on the ship, Gamora had gotten into a fight with Thanos and came to the room in a fit breaking things, ranting about how much she hated her life and she hated Thanos. Instead of turning her away like she had done to you, you had decided to show her some sympathy. You told her about your hatred, you told her about the day you lost your life to the mad- titan and you also told her that she made you feel like you weren’t alone even if she didn’t like her. You were happy to have someone to suffer with. Gamora soon after that warmed up to you, then Nebula came along.
Nebula was a different story, she hated all of her siblings and wasn’t trying to make bonds with anyone. She was devoted to her father so much, and was willing to do anything to make him proud. So when it came to you and Gamora, she despised you both and wanted to prove she was the superior daughter. Her hatred grew deeper when she would be challenged against the two of you and always lose, resulting in Thanos adding upgrades to help her improve. By the time the three of you were in your teen years, Nebula had almost lost most of her right side becoming half cyborg.
You honestly hated hearing her screams of torture when Thanos worked on her so you would ask your father for permission if you could be with her to try and give her comfort and support. He denied every time saying that it was Nebula’s punishment for being weak so she needed to accept her pain. So one day Nebula finally won a battle against you because you had let her win and you took your punishment instead which was a scolding from your father.
It took a lot more time for Nebula to warm up to you and when she did, you were happy to have two sisters. One you could talk to and one you could spar with. The three of you were unstoppable, the assassin daughters of the mad titan warlord Thanos.
Now here you were standing in your room, staring out into the void of space relieving your memories of your old life. You hated Thanos, you hated your life, you hated what you had become and you wanted to run but that would take time to plan and units. So you decided to wait for the perfect moment to betray your father and escape away.
You glanced at your reflection, your lavender eyes piercing back at you, your hair was neatly in a crown braid, the black strapless corset with black tight pants and a purple jacket that fitted around your body felt weird. Your father told you that today was a special day for you to wear something nice. He was supposed to have a meeting with someone to help him find something he called The Infinity Stones. You wondered about this stranger and couldn’t help but scoff to yourself, the poor guy didn’t know what mess he or she would be getting into.
“Sister, are you ready?” Gamora asks, standing in the doorway with her long ombre hair done up neatly like yours. Her outfit is similar to yours but with a red corset and a black jacket instead.
You sigh, turning yourself away from the window to stare back at Gamora.
“Of course sister, come we mustn’t keep father waiting” You responded with ice in your tone as you said the word father. Gamora knew and shared your hatred as well so she just nodded and began to walk down the hallway to the meeting room. You followed her out watching her walk in front of you. As you passed by several training and torture rooms, you knew that you would not miss this place. Your sisters, you would dearly miss but then again they were not your real siblings. Putting your thoughts away, you caught up to Gamora  walking by her side.
“Nebula is there with father?” You ask first, keeping your eyes ahead. “Ready and waiting, you know she’s gonna scold us later for not being good daughters” Gamora responded, stopping in front of a large door with alien language encrypted on to it.  You nodded to your sister that you were ready and the door opened letting a bright blue light emerge. Inside the room was a large  grey chair in the center of the floor that was twice the size of you and your siblings. Your father proudly sat upon it dressed in his infamous golden amour with your sister, Nebula by his left side waiting. A golden specter in his hand with a bright blue stone in between the two pongs. She sneered at the two of you for making your father wait but before making sure to keep herself in check.
“Ah..my daughters, finally you grace us with your presence” Thanos began as he held out his hands for you and your sister. Gamora stepped first, letting Thanos lead her to his right side then you stepped up letting your father lead you next to Nebula. Now facing the direction that your father was, you now took full notice of the man in front of you.
The man was tall, he had to be about 6 ft and over, his black, green and gold leather clothing told you that he was royalty. He was a handsome man with sharp cheekbones, ebony shoulder length hair that was slicked back. His eyes were a deep emerald green that seemed to pierce through your soul.
His demeanor was something you’ve never seen or felt before. It felt terrifying but sad? It confused you to your core of why this man was intriguing you so. You felt his eyes on you as well, taking in your form. He studied you as you did him, since you knew this would not be the last time you saw him. “Now. Speak of your ambition.” Thanos began making the man’s eyes switch to him.
“I am Loki of Asgard, or better known as the God of Mischief. I am burdened with a glorious purpose to achieve my rightful place as king! I have come in need of an army” His voice..was alluring and confident. The accent in his voice was deep and a bit husky. The way he spoke, told you that he was determined to get what he desired.
Thanos smiled and began to hum as he straightened himself in his chair.
“Glorious purpose? We all have a purpose...a destiny to fulfill. It all arrives the same, the question is what will you do for me? You offer me nothing for my services.”
“I offer you Earth and all of it’s worms that they call their people. I offer you their blood, their screams.” The man called Loki responded with a slight tone of desperation.
Your father stayed silent for a moment. “Perhaps we can come to an alliance. On Earth, there is this powerful object called the Tesseract. Inside of it, is one of the essentials to my great plan. I will give you an army, Earth will be yours to rule. I only ask for the Tesseract in return, understand?”
Loki stood up straight, eyes still fixed on your father. “ I will not disappoint you”
Once you heard Loki say that, you felt your heart drop since you knew what your father did with his alliances. Thanos smirked with malicious intent.
“We’ll see”
You could do nothing but watch as your father took the specter and plunged it into Loki’s chest. You bite the inside of your cheek as you hear his screams ring out, your father wanted to show Loki that he was not one to be disappointed or betrayed. You couldn’t bear to think of what he was making Loki see or feel but you swore that you saw his eyes water. What made it worse was that his eyes were no longer on your father but on you. They held such pain and terror that you almost thought he was begging for help. You gave him a sympathetic look before looking away. You couldn’t have your father seeing you be weak, Loki’s screams continued until your father had enough and made him pass out from the mind torture.
“Y/n, take our guest to his room. I want to make sure he’s fully prepared for his mission.” Your father stood handing you the tall scepter. “ Give him this for his mission. Don’t be afraid to make him grovel to our will.”
Gripping the specter tightly in your hand. You stared up at your father with a harsh glare. “Of course Father.” With your words, Loki was picked up by Gamora and carried him to his chamber for now. You followed her admiring his features.
His face was bruised and scraped, his eyes were puffy with some red around them.
‘He’s been in more pain than today..” You thought to yourself as the door opened welcoming you.
Gamora flops him on the bed and proceeds to give you a look beginning to walk out but then she stops. “Y/n you can’t save everyone from father” She says, turning her head to look at you slightly.
“I'm not trying to save anyone, I just can’t stand the pain ” You stated factually as you watched Loki fidget and turn in his sleep. Gamora nodded once before leaving you alone with the god of mischief.  Deciding to give the poor man some relief, you crouched beside him and began to softly sing a lullaby to help ease his pain.
You lightly grasped his arm to sing soft melodies in his ear. All you had to do was sing a few notes and anyone would be under your spell. Once you saw his face soften up and relax slightly, you pulled away to stand back up.
“Sleep...and may you never have another bad dream..”  A soft smile rose to your face seeing Loki relax completely and just look peaceful before he would endure your father’s wraith. Leaving the scepter by his side, you exited the room and proceeded to the next mission.

Tangling with the Boss (Sett/Reader)
Finally, my Sett story! This one is in two parts so I’ll be posting the other part either today or tomorrow. Some little notes for this; Sett’s mother doesn’t have a canonical name as of right now so I made a name for her, and Sett’s full name is Settrigh (canon, I didn’t make that one up lol). Also, there is smut at the end. I hope you enjoy! :)
----
Navori, Ionia had not always been your home. You had been a respectable young Demacian citizen, from a good family. You were spoiled, but had never caused any trouble, never created any waves. You had a good education and a supportive family, at least until you woke up on the morning of your twenty-second birthday.
Everyone in Demacia was familiar with the mageseekers. The squad that captured and confined anyone found to have magic powers; magic was a danger, and anyone who possessed any must be removed from society. You had been taught that from an early age, and had seen the mageseekers around in their half-masks, easily accepting their purpose in society. But that day you had woken up in a sweat with a scream, your clothes in tatters from the fire that engulfed your arms and legs. Your parents had burst into the room just as you realized that the fire didn’t hurt.
Your mother gasped and your father stared at you with disgust and hatred in his eyes. They both turned and ran back into the hallway, and you knew the mageseekers would soon be upon you. Everything in your mind had screamed at you to do what was right and wait for the mageseekers to come and take you away forever, but in this moment, you finally realized what a broken system you lived in. If these so-called dangerous mages were anything like you, then they didn’t deserve what had happened to them. And if you stayed, you were looking at life imprisonment at best, and a slow, painful death at worst.
And so you ran. With nothing but a dress hastily grabbed from your closet, you had fled your home and Demacia altogether. Noxus was no friend to Demacia, but the violence that raged there told you that it would not welcome you with open arms. From your years of schooling, you knew that the island of Ionia, across the Noxian waters, would be your only option. Ionia was a place that tolerated magic, which had been a source of disdain for your teacher when it had come to geography lessons. It was just unlucky for you that to get to Ionia, you would have to cross Noxian territory and then find passage on a ship at the Noxian shores that was headed to Ionia.
You had no choice but to cross Noxus, staying on the far borders and attracting as little attention as you could. As someone who had grown up in a wealthy household, it had been a big change for you to suddenly forage for your own food and shelter, your only comfort being your new fire powers keeping you warm in the cold nights. You were slowly growing better at controlling it, but not good enough to avoid a few close calls with suspicious Noxians that you then had to flee from. You were sure that you looked awful, filthy, and tired, but you eventually reached the Noxian coast and managed to sneak onto a small passenger ship as it loaded some barrels.
Getting to Ionia had been a huge culture shock for you; here, magic was everywhere, and people of all kinds roamed the streets. It was such a difference from your old life, but watching families walk the streets reminded you sadly of what you had left behind. You had nothing here but your freedom, which stirred complicated feelings in your heart, but being here alone was much better than rotting in a dungeon or losing your head to the executioner’s block back in Demacia.
You had nowhere to go, and so you had wandered around until your feet hurt and your eyes were tired of being open. You had found an only somewhat grungy alleyway and collapsed in sleep as soon as you had sat down. You had no idea how long you had slept for, but you were awoken by a gentle hand grazing over your hair. Your brain hadn’t fully accepted your fall from Demacian grace, and you opened your eyes expecting to see your mother, but you were instead greeted by a beautiful middle-aged woman with light purple hair and matching soft furred ears atop her head.
You had never seen a Vastayan before, only read about them in books. Your Demacian teachers had only referred to them negatively as barbaric creatures that embraced terrifying magic. But your status as a fugitive mage had you questioning what you had been told, and so you had agreed to the woman’s offer to bring you to her home to patch up the wounds you only now noticed you had, adrenaline keeping the stinging pains at bay until then.
Ciorah had noticed right away that you were not from Ionia, and she had later told you that she saw something of herself in you that day that made her feel that she couldn’t leave you alone to die on the streets. She had taken you to her modest home, insisting on giving you food and some of her spare clothes. She was nothing but nice to you, and in return you had told her how you came to be in Navori. She had listened, and comforted you in a way that was not unlike your own mother. And she had told you about her son, who she had explained was off building a school at the time, and how sweet a boy he was.
You had talked with her for quite a while, as you had nowhere to be in the first place. When it started to get cold as the night rolled in, Ciorah asked you to show her your magic, and you had obliged only after she had reassured you that Vastaya were creatures of magic, and therefore it was harder to injure them with it. She smiled gently as you allowed a small flame to light in your palm, and helped guide your hand to light a simple blue-tinted candle with ease.
You had been surprised with how easily she guided your magic, unsure of how you had the luck to come across her in the first place. She would not let you leave her home that night, insisting that she had a friend that you had to meet the next day. You were ushered to sleep in her son’s childhood bed, Ciorah silencing all of your protests that you didn’t want to trouble her.
The next day, she took you to see a proud Vastayan woman with a stern gaze and a blonde braid laid over her shoulder. You had been invited into her home, where you noticed delicate glass works displayed around the rooms.
The woman, Inora, became your mentor. She had been creating glass works to sell for years, and had once belonged to the same Vastayan community as Ciorah before they had both been expelled. While Inora looked outwardly intimidating, she sympathized with your situation and had readily offered to help you harness your powers in exchange for working as her apprentice and helping her shape glass with your fire.
You had accepted the apprenticeship, and began to train under Inora, your powers slowly becoming easier to manipulate. Ionia had become your home, and eventually it became easier to avoid thinking of where you had come from. You were often sent out to deliver orders, and it made you happy that Inora trusted you with more responsibilities.
You had just finished your deliveries for the day, and had one more stop to make. When you had some extra materials, Inora would let you make little glass trinkets to give to Ciorah. You had made her a small cat out of glass this time, and fished it out of your bag carefully as you knocked on her door.
Ciorah welcomed you in happily, placing the glass cat beside the other animals you had made for her in past. As with every time you visited her, Ciorah had you seated with a cup of handmade tea in front of you.
“I am always happy to see you doing well,” she said softly, taking a small sip of her own cup of tea.
You smiled, knowing better than to tell her the only reason you were okay was because of her. You had told her so many times already that you didn’t want to get on her nerves, so instead you visited her often and brought her new glass pieces whenever you could to show how much you appreciated her kindness.
“How are you doing?” you asked. You had been worried as of late with there being an increased ruffian presence in town, and Ciorah was an ideal target for those with compromised morals looking for an easy mark.
“Everything is fine,” she reassured you, before looking over to the door with her brow furrowed. “I told Settrigh to come by, but I do not think you will get to meet him today.”
You waved her comment off with a smile. “It’s alright, I know his job keeps him busy.”
In the year you had been in Ionia, you still had yet to meet Ciorah’s son despite all the time you had spent in her company. You knew that he worked hard to provide for her, so you could forgive him for never being there when you were. Though it didn’t make you any less curious to meet the kind, hardworking young man. If he was anything like his mother, you were sure that you would get along well with him. You had Ciorah and Inora, but a part of you lamented no longer having any friends of your own age category.
“Be careful on your way back,” Ciorah’s voice broke through your thoughts. “I have heard that some of the brutes from the fighting pits have been causing trouble lately.”
The fighting pits. You had heard of the brawling arena in the Noxian district of Navori. You hadn’t been in that part of Navori, let alone in the pit itself. You had seen loud, tough-looking men around town, and if they were any indication of what their place of employment was like, you weren’t interested.
“I’ll be careful,” you promised her, changing the subject to something lighter. “Inora wanted me to ask if you needed any supplies…”
Talking with Ciorah caused time to go by without you noticing. It came as a surprise to you when you decided to look behind you to a window and discovered how dark it was outside. Ciorah was quick to notice as well, and insisted that you head home before it got potentially dangerous outside.
“I’ll come by tomorrow,” you promised her as she saw you off with a smile.
The streets of Navori were fairly busy, as it was barely evening. Your walk would only take around fifteen minutes, ten if you took the side streets, which you had opted to do this time. It wasn’t late enough for you to get into any trouble, so you felt safe enough to take your usual shortcuts. Maybe you were being naïve, but although you had heard stories, nothing untoward had happened to you in your time in Ionia. Still, you avoided meeting anyone’s gaze as you maneuvered around a mother and child perusing a fruit cart and entered the alleyway just behind them.
The alleyway was darker than normal, so after a cursory look around, you lit a small flame on your palm after seeing nobody else in the area. With the light of the flame as your guide, you walked to the end of the alleyway, turning the corner as usual and stepping over the dip in the stone floor. You had been mentally going over the list of things you had to remember to tell Inora when you got back, so caught up in your own thoughts that you didn’t notice a large frame move to block your way. You collided with the man who was right in front of you, stumbling back and into another man who was suddenly behind you. You hurriedly looked between them as they both leered down at you, closing in on you.
“We got a little mage here,” the one in front of you taunted, jerking his head to his buddy, which made his choppy, greasy hair bounce.
You gasped; you hadn’t realized that the flame in your palm was still lit, and quickly extinguished it. You had nowhere to go, and they knew it. You could only shudder as the man behind you brought some of your hair to his nose as he stared you down in an intimidating manner.
He dropped the lock of hair as he noticed you looking back at him in terror. “Too good to talk to us?” he jeered.
“She ain’t too good for the fightin’ pits,” the first man added. “They straighten out bitches with their noses in the air.”
“Even if she dies, we’d get a finder’s fee,” the second man replied.
You tried to dash around the man in front of you, but he caught your arm and threw you to the ground. You were about to scream, but silenced yourself with a whimper as a knife was thrust close to your face. The large, greasy man stared down at you with a predatory grin as his friend moved the knife down to press slightly on your neck.
“Yer gonna earn us enough money to pay all our debts!” he announced as you were grabbed and forced back on your feet.
“Or die tryin’!” the other man joked, both men cackling with laughter.
You were dragged out of the alleyway, the knife at your neck replaced by a too-tight grip on your arm to arouse less suspicion. You looked around with eyes wide in terror, hoping that someone noticed you were out of place and needed help. But no matter how much you tried to catch someone’s eye, nobody spared you even a glance. As you were dragged along further, you suspected that this was the seedy part of town, because it seemed like everyone was ignoring you on purpose as you passed them. Everyone here had their own illegal business to conduct and none of them had any care for one girl in trouble.
The next turn opened up to a densely crowded area, packed with women with sharp eyes and men with muscles bigger than any you had seen before. There was not a friendly face in the crowd as you were jostled by the men dragging you through the throng of people and towards a side entrance that was manned by a heavily muscled man with thick eyebrows and tattoos littering his arms.
“We got a late entry,” the man with the vice grip on you stated.
The assumed-bouncer raised a thick eyebrow. “You think she has any chance?”
“If she do, we want our cut of it!” the skinnier captor cackled.
You looked pleadingly at the bouncer, hoping he could see that you were not willing to be here. “Please, help me, I don’t want to–”
You were cut off as a fist to the back of your head caused you to bite your tongue, the taste of iron filling your mouth at the same time as you felt your skull ring with pain.
“Shut it, bitch,” the larger captor shouted.
You felt tears prick your eyes as you silently cried, blood dripping from your mouth and onto your chin. You risked one more look at the bouncer, who stared at you impassively for a moment before standing aside and opening the door. You would get no sympathy here.
“See Dedric’s till, he’ll check you in,” the bouncer grunted, and you were quickly pushed in the door, the man slamming it shut behind your group.
The two men immediately rounded on you and you were shoved against a wall. The skinnier man leaned in towards your face, his chipped and dirty teeth on full display and way too close when you had no room to move away. “You try anythin’ like that again and we’ll kill ya right here.”
“Ain’t no one in the pits gonna care about one dead bitch,” the larger man chimed in.
They wasted no more time, grabbing you and pulling you through the barren hallway and up to a man with an eye patch and shaggy black hair who sat at a desk with a large chart in front of him and a surplus of coins just behind him in a chest.
“Got one more for the lineup,” the skinny man told the man at the till; Dedric, you had to assume.
Dedric grinned as he stared you down. It was clear to you where on your body he was staring, and it wasn’t your eyes. He looked down at his list for only a moment before looking at your captors. “I s’pose you’ll want a finder’s fee,” he drawled. “Ya can get it now, or double after the fight if she survives.”
The brazen talk of your fate sent a shiver up your spine. You let a few more tears fall as the men discussed details, just wishing that you were back with Ciorah; you’d even take a scolding from Inora over the likely awful death you had coming.
“We’ll do the double,” the large captor sneered.
“Ya might get lucky,” Dedric replied, jotting something down on his list. “We got a lotta amateurs on tonight.”
After he finished writing, Dedric finally looked you in the eyes. “Ya got a stage name?”
How dare he even ask when it was so obvious that you were not here of your own free will? You felt anger overwhelm the fear you felt for a moment. You glared at him, refusing to answer his question. You would have no willing part in this murderous spectacle.
Dedric looked annoyed with you, gesturing dismissively to the side. “Take her to the stage. Lookin’ forward to watchin’ the attitude beat out of her.”
The skinny man held his knife to your neck again as you were then pulled down another hallway and towards the competitor’s area, several men in flashy outfits scattered around, sharpening weapons or talking amongst each other.
“Please,” you tried one last time. “Please don’t do this!”
“Please!” the larger man said in a high-pitched mock imitation of your voice, both men breaking out in obnoxious laughter.
“Looks like yer up first!” the skinny one said as they handed you off to another burly man, who you assumed was overseeing the competitors.
“No!” you protested uselessly.
“Use that firepower and maybe you’ll earn us double!” the large captor taunted as they made their way towards the spectator stands.
Without any say in the matter, you were shoved out into the large arena, rows and rows of people staring down at you as you stumbled and fell onto your hands and knees, palms stinging from the impact. Looking around, you noticed no friendly faces in the crowd, just a large group of intimidating strangers that were all sizing you up.
Just as you were standing up, chatter and applause rang out from all around you, and you looked for the source, since it obviously wasn’t you. You didn’t have to look far as a man strutted out from the pit entrance behind you.
He strutted around the ring, giving you an opportunity to assess him as well. He was a large figure, muscles prominently on display from his lack of a shirt, red paint splashed across his skin like blood. Or maybe it was blood, he was too far away from you at the moment for you to tell. He was clearly Noxian, a large Noxian crest tattoo visible on his back when he turned his back to you in order to face the crowd. He flexed his muscles for the loudly cheering crowd for a few more minutes before he finally acknowledged you, although your attention had been turned away from him to look for any escape routes.
“Too bad we gotta fight,” he remarked offhandedly. “You’d make a real nice ring girl.”
He said it loudly, despite being ten or so feet away from you, obviously intending to impress the crowd with his trash talking. You just rolled your eyes, feeling bitter and angry that you had even gotten in this situation in the first place. You would never see Ciorah or Inora again because two criminals decided to target you, and it wore down any spirit you had left to think that you had made a happy life here just to die in the fighting pits.
The announcer then declared that the fight was to begin from his cushy podium, sending your heart rate skyrocketing. You were very clearly trapped; scaling the twenty foot walls that led up to the stands wasn’t going to be an option. Your opponent walked to the opposite side of the arena that would be his starting point, readying himself by materializing two very sharp daggers out of thin air and sending a bloodthirsty smirk your way.
This practice was barbaric, and you took one last look at the crowd for any hope of someone who would understand that you weren’t here willingly and want to help you, but all you saw in their eyes was their eagerness to watch you die. You felt disappointment radiate from within you as movement caught your eye; a large man entered a relatively barren area of the stands, and you noticed the furred ears atop his head immediately. A Vastayan in the fighting pits? The only Vastayans you knew were the opposite of anyone who would ever come here. You realized that he was looking back at you as your eyes drifted from his ears to his eyes. You weren’t sure what to make of his cold, calculated gaze, but a loud whistle brought you back to your current problem; the fight was on.
Your opponent began to run at you, faster than you thought possible, and you threw yourself to the side just in time to dodge the first swipe of his blades. You had no combat experience at all, all you had was your magic. Magic that you sparingly used and had never used to hurt anyone before. The thought of using your magic like that scared you, but you didn’t have a lot of options at the moment. You scrambled up and were about to make a run for it, but found yourself pinned in place as the Noxian threw both of his daggers, which struck both sides of your loose-fitting shirt and then embedded in the wall behind you, one dagger grazing the flesh of your side as well. You cried out in pain, too scared to form tears as you tried to pry the daggers from the wall to free yourself.
The man sauntered over lazily to screams from the audience for him to finish you off. “We had some fun, sweetheart. But I think it’s time to show you how we say goodbye in Noxus.”
You didn’t understand his reference, but the crowd got noticeably excited as he cracked his knuckles, now only a foot away from you. Even if you escaped the daggers, he was too close for you to get away from him. This brute would take your life to the sounds of thunderous applause unless you did something now. You took your hands off of the daggers and raised them up, palms facing towards the Noxian.
“Please stop…” you begged him. You really didn’t want to hurt him, but you didn’t want to die. You would have to put up a fight.
“Little late to be beggin’ for mercy!” he cackled, and one of the daggers pinning you disappeared and reappeared in his hand. “Time’s up!”
His dagger didn’t have a chance to get closer as you let go and he was blasted with a spray of searing fire.
It was turning out to be a bad night for Sett.
He had been disturbed on the way to his ma’s house by one of his men in a panic, who had informed him that the two competitors for the crowd-drawing fight of the night had gotten in a drunken brawl earlier and had both been arrested by the Ionian authorities. His knuckles twitched as he changed course and made his way to the pit earlier than he had intended to. He knew that his ma would forgive him, but he hated breaking promises that he made to her. Sett had a way he liked doing things, but without a headlining fight, his options were slim; get in the ring himself, or put on an amateur night.
His momma had been worried about the influx of Noxians to the Ionian shores lately, and he knew she would be on high alert for any new injuries on him. The one thing he hated above all was being the cause of her worries, so he gave the orders to scout out competitors for amateur night. Maybe he’d find some new talent to replace the two drunken morons permanently. He wasn’t worried about either of them complaining about being replaced; it was a well-known fact that Sett didn’t give second chances. Not to anyone that messed with his money.
Once a group of men had been dispatched to spread the news that they were recruiting for the night, Sett made sure everyone was aware of the change. Newbie nights always drew in a lot of overconfident braggarts who spent more time showboating than they lasted in the ring, so everything would be timed carefully. The more fights he could pack in one night, the more bets they could take in. Amateur nights almost never had clear winners before the fights began, so the house won more than on nights where the big names came to fight. It sorta made up for the smaller crowds on amateur nights, but some money was better than no money.
Ensuring everything was ready took longer than usual, and by the time Sett had taken his place in the stands, the first fight was about to start. He already had a distaste for the muscle man with the Noxian tattoo. They never seemed to stop reminding him of the father that had abandoned him and his ma. He didn’t feel the need to fight Noxians in general, but he never minded watching them lose in his pit. The Noxian was parading around; not unexpected for a rookie to go heavy on the taunts but light on the punches.
Having had his fill of assessing the Noxian, Sett turned his gaze to the other competitor, only to discover that she had been staring at him already. They met eyes for a few moments, which was enough for Sett to notice how out of place she looked. Last minute nerves happened sometimes, but this girl was on another level. He was across the pit from her, but he suspected that she was crying. What kind of idiot had booked this crybaby for a fight?
“Who did she sign up with?” he asked one of the till masters, Ryo, who had also come to watch the fight.
“I saw her at Dedric’s with two other guys,” was the answer he received.
Dedric… Dedric had been working at the pits since before Sett had taken them over, which was something he knew the man had been unhappy about. Sett didn’t insist that everyone like him, but he expected obedience to his rules. And signing up weaklings for fights that lasted ten seconds was not good for business. If fights were short, the spectators got bored, and his tills got lighter.
“Do you want to stop the fight?” Ryo asked carefully, knowing better than to force any opinion on the pit boss.
“Nah,” Sett replied. “Let it go on. But I want Dedric’s till checked at the end of the night.”
Bets had been taken, and Sett wasn’t going to stop the fight now and lose out on the coin it generated. He would talk to Dedric later; for now, he was interested to see if the cocky Noxian had any skills to back up his mouthing off.
The Noxian brandished two daggers from thin air and charged at the girl. Sett stared her down, waiting for her to do something worthy of interest as she dived to the side to avoid a direct blow. Well, maybe the fight would last twenty seconds instead of ten, he mused.
The Noxian’s next move pinned the girl to the wall with his daggers, and he began to taunt her as she cried and begged for mercy. Sett had thought something was up before, but now he knew. Dedric would have to be out of his mind to book this girl, unless he was counting on fixing some easy matches. Nobody would volunteer for a match to the death that they didn’t think they could win, and Sett smelled a rat. He kept his business away from the Ionian authorities’ grasp, but shit like kidnapping local girls for pit fights would bring attention that he did not want. He wouldn’t stop this fight and draw attention away from the matches, but Dedric was gonna learn very soon why he should’ve played by Sett’s rules.
He flexed his knuckles as he watched the Noxian go for the killing blow; the corpse cart standing by, ready to collect the girl’s body. But the cheers and chants from the crowd died down to a whisper as the Noxian let out a terrified scream. Sett only had a second to duck as a wave of fire shot out from the girl, which travelled all the way across the room and ended at the wall directly behind where he had been standing.
At first he thought it had been an attack meant for him, but as he glanced down to the pit, he saw that the fire had hit its intended mark. The Noxian was unrecognizable, a black human-shaped figure. Sett couldn’t tell if he was alive or dead, but the corpse cart was wheeled over as the girl collapsed on the floor, the remaining dagger in her side disappearing, a clear sign that the Noxian was no longer alive. Her clothes in burnt tatters, the girl curled up on her side and sobbed. It wasn’t a sight he had seen in the pit before, and he was taken aback.
“Guess she ain’t as weak as she looks,” Ryo remarked with a low whistle.
The crowd remembered to breathe again as the body of the Noxian was wheeled away. There was a mix of cheers and boos, the latter likely from those who had bet against the girl. The doors to the pit opened up, an enforcer entering with two men at his heels. The men were out of place, looking more like con artists than pit fighters. Ryo was looking out at the same scene as the two men attempted to haul the girl to her feet as she resisted heavily.
“Those were the guys who brought her in. You think…?” Ryo prompted.
“Yeah.” Ryo didn’t have to finish his sentence for Sett to know that they both suspected the same thing about the situation. “Invite those two to the back office. I want the girl separated from them. I’ll deal with Dedric later.”
Ryo immediately left to oversee the orders, and Sett watched as Ryo appeared in the arena and had the two men and the girl escorted out of the pit so the next competitors could fight it out. He trusted that Ryo could handle the problem for now; any action on his part would have to wait until the crowd had gone home for the night. And with more fights to come, Sett settled back into his chair and kept his focus on the pit.
You were not being dragged away by those creeps again, not after barely surviving the fight at the expense of taking a life. You struggled, hoping the pressure of the crowd would keep them from pulling the knife on you again.
“Get up!” the skinny one screeched at you. “Get your ass up!”
Their tugging on your limbs paused as a man with dark hair in a low ponytail and an overly pleasant smile approached.
“Gentleman, the boss would like to talk some business after the rounds,” he explained smoothly. “We may even triple your finder’s fee.”
Your heart sunk. So nobody here was a decent person? You would get nowhere being on the floor, so you reluctantly stood up, your captors taking an arm each to allow you no chance of escape. You could only do what you could to avoid further violence being inflicted on you. You followed the smooth-talking man down the hallway you had been in before, up until he stopped in front of a door.
“You can wait in here for the boss,” the man announced, but didn’t stand aside for the men to enter. “She’s gotta go in another room. Can’t have the talent present while the men talk business.”
Your captors seemed to accept his logic, stepping into the room, obviously mentally counting their imminent profits from your enslavement. Whereas all you could think about was how you were going to get out of this. You were reluctant to hurt anyone, but maybe if you threatened this man with your powers, he’d let you leave. You followed him to the room next door, readying yourself to throw a fireball and run if necessary. But before you could work up your nerve, the door was shut and you were left alone with a promise that the boss would be paying you a visit soon.
You paced around the room, trying to think of what to do. Inora must be so worried that you hadn’t returned home, but you had no way to contact her from here. And even if you did, you doubted that she could get you out of this viper’s den. You would have to do something. You had lost track of time, stuck in your own thoughts until you heard muffled shouting from the room next door. You couldn’t make out what they were saying, but the voices sounded angry. You crept closer to the wall to try and hear better, but just as you put your ear to the wall, there was a heavy impact to the other side of the wall, which jolted you backwards, landing on your back and knocking the wind out of you.
You had to get out of here. You had heard the click of a lock earlier when the smooth-talker had left, but maybe you could just burn the door down? You ran a hand along the door; it was unfortunately solid. You had never tested your powers like this before, so you were unsure of if you could accidentally enflame the entire building. You had no idea what had happened in the room next door, which was now eerily quiet, but you weren’t about to be next. Not without trying to get out of here. You placed both palms to the wooden door, ready to burn right through it, when it was opened from the outside, sending you flying forward, eyes shut reflexively for the impact to the floor.
“And here I thought you were done fightin’.”
Your eyes snapped open at the deep male voice and sudden grip on your forearms, only to see the Vastayan man from before. You were eye-level with his very muscular chest, and looked further up to see him looking down at you with an eyebrow raised. Up close, you could make out every little scratch on his ruggedly handsome face, your eyes drawn to one small white scar that ran down one side of his bottom lip and ended just a bit above his chin. You came back to yourself all at once, flushing with embarrassment as you realized that you had been staring at him too long.
You remembered your situation, jerking back and out of his grip, which surprised him. Your need to separate yourself from him resulted in you falling to the floor again, and you began to quickly scramble away from the man.
He brought a hand up to itch at the back of his neck as he casually stepped into the room. “Relax,” he said, moving closer to you. “I ain’t gonna hurt ya.”
“Please, please don’t–” You were babbling, and you knew it, but you didn’t know what else to do as you curled into a ball on the floor, keeping your eyes on his approaching figure.
He looked somewhat annoyed, halting where he stood a few feet away from you. “Look, we beat the story outta those scumbags that brought you here. You’re free to go.”
His words swept away your fears of immediate and swift peril, which was quickly replaced by confusion as you slowly sat up. “But…”
“I know what good girls like you think ‘a the pits, but mine ain’t like that,” he explained. “We only take willing fighters.”
“I didn’t…” you trailed off, deciding not to voice your half-hearted protests. You definitely had thought exactly that, so you weren’t sure why you had tried to deny his assertion. “You’re going to let me leave?”
“I would invite ya back, but I don’t think the pit is the right place for a cryin’ city girl,” he replied.
“Thank you!” you exclaimed, ignoring the insult. You weren’t sure what to say, but you didn’t want him to have any reason to reverse his decision. He ran a fighting pit, so clearly he wasn’t all there morally, but you didn’t want to stay here and access him further, not when he was giving you a free pass to get out of here.
You stood up, keeping your eyes on him as you inched towards the door, the man staring back at you with what looked like amusement, keeping his gaze on you as you passed by him and into the hallway. You weren’t sure where to go from here, but you were afraid to seem like you didn’t know what you were doing.
“Wrong way,” he called out when you were halfway down the hallway in your chosen direction. You flinched at his voice, turning around and sheepishly walking back in his direction as he chuckled.
“Down the hall and to the left,” he said as you passed by him.
You walked a little faster at his words, but followed his directions. You were too nervous to look back, and you hurried around the corner, feeling his eyes on you until you fully left his sight. You were grateful that there was one decent person in this place, but you wanted to be out of here as soon as possible.
The air outside the arena was stale, but welcome to your frazzled nerves. You walked among the crowd of exiting patrons, hoping that they wouldn’t take notice of you if you kept your head down. Luckily for you, it was a busy night of betting, and that’s all the crowd around you could talk about. You stuck close to a group of women that were discussing how attractive one of the fighters was until you were back on the main streets again. You were grateful for all the loud people on the streets, because nobody paid any attention to you as you took only well-lit paths back to Inora’s home, eyes flitting around as you kept watch for any more goons in your way. You weren’t sure what the man had meant when he told you that he had dealt with your kidnappers, but if they were out on the streets, then you needed to be off of them as soon as you could be.
Inora was in her favorite chair by the front door as you unlocked the door and came in. She practically leapt from the chair, rushing over to you once she noticed your appearance. You hadn’t had a chance to look in a mirror, but you knew that your clothes were dirty and ripped, a patch of your shirt stained with your blood from the Noxian’s dagger. You must have looked awful, and would likely have bruises all over once you woke up tomorrow.
Inora sat you down and began to fuss over your injuries, washing your cuts and bandaging the worst of them as you told you what had happened to you.
“Those dirty kidnappers,” she growled. “They are a scourge on Navori!”
You didn’t want to make her any more stressed, so you shortened your summary of the fight and skipped to the part where the Vastayan man let you leave. Inora had only calmed down slightly, her protective nature setting in as she made you some dinner, despite your offers to help her. You sat patiently in your chair, hoping that being as calm as you could would keep her from acting on her threats to go down to the arena and give them a piece of her mind.
You had to beg her not to tell Ciorah about what had happened. Ciorah was a sweet lady who already worried too much about the dangers of the streets, and you didn’t want her constantly stressed with worry for you every time you left her home. Inora was reluctant, but understood why you wanted to keep the experience a secret from Ciorah. You were eventually allowed to go to bed after Inora had finished fussing over you, and you were so tired that you passed out almost immediately.
The next day, you were anxious to get out of the house and visit Ciorah. You had woken up in slight pain from bruises all over your body, but otherwise you were feeling better. Unlike you, however, Inora had woken up even more protective than the day before. She hadn’t let you do any glass work, stating that since you had used your powers to the extreme yesterday, using them today would be too much of a strain on you. You had tried to tell her that you felt fine, but no amount of convincing would lessen her worries. She barely let you make your own food, and you were trying to be patient, but felt like you were going a bit crazy with her constant hovering around you.
“…and if you’re still there when it gets dark, stay there and I’ll come get you,” Inora instructed you as you stood by the door, ready to leave for Ciorah’s home. She had been talking at you for several minutes now, and you decided to just let her talk until she got it all out. Only after agreeing to all of her conditions did she let you leave at last, and you took only busy streets to get to Ciorah’s house.
You had tried to wear enough clothing to cover all of your bruises and cuts, but you hadn’t worn a bag over your head, so Ciorah noticed the scrapes on your face and hands immediately. She fretted over you as she ushered you into her home, and you were immediately reminded of Inora, who had done the exact same thing. You gently refuted her worries, sitting down opposite her at her small table.
“I tripped and fell into a thorn bush,” you carefully stated your rehearsed lie. “I’m fine!”
You felt bad at just how easily Ciorah believed your lie, but you knew it had to be done. She didn’t need the extra stress, and you didn’t want to make her even more concerned about the ruffians at the pits. You bit down any urges to tell her the truth, covering up your guilt with a smile just as a knock came at the door.
You felt unease rise up within you as Ciorah excused herself to go to the door. The only person who had ever visited when you were here was Inora, and your mind began to race, trying to think of what to do if Inora was here to tell Ciorah tell truth. It seemed like you couldn’t escape the awkward conversation, and so you stared at the wall that was blocking your view of the entrance and tried to think of any possible way to explain to her why you had lied without damaging her trust in you. You thought you were doing her a favor, but now that your plan was backfiring majorly, you were feeling even worse.
You listened intently as Ciorah opened the door, waiting to hear Inora’s voice that you knew was coming. Instead, you heard a man’s voice, and an excited coo from Ciorah, which derailed your train of thought entirely.
“Sorry I wasn’t here yesterday,” the male voice said. “The boss’s daughter was sick, so I did his share of work too.”
“I am just happy to see you, Settrigh,” Ciorah replied warmly.
As soon as you heard the name, you realized that it was Ciorah’s elusive son at the door. You admittedly could use the help in distracting Ciorah from your injuries, but more than anything you were interested in finally meeting the son that Ciorah often spoke so fondly of. You let a smile light your face in excitement as Ciorah came back into the room, and the large figure just behind her sent your heart racing.
You barely heard Ciorah introduce you to her son as you stared at him, eyes wide and skin feeling cold with dread. Settrigh stared back at you in shock, neither of you breaking your shared gaze until Ciorah asked her son if he would like some tea.
“Yes, ma,” Settrigh answered politely, and the blatant change in his personality from last night shocked you.
The calm didn’t last long, because as soon as Ciorah left the room to prepare the tea, Settrigh quickly crossed the room to get in your face, voice threatening despite being at whisper volume. “Did you tell her?”
“What?” you whispered back.
He glared at you, unamused by your lack of answer. “Did you tell my ma about what I do?”
“No!” you squeaked, backing away in fear. “I didn’t want to worry her… and besides, I didn’t know you were her son!”
“You better not be lyin’,” he threatened, and the implications of his words were clear. You say anything and he would do the same thing to you that he did to your kidnappers last night. You didn’t know what to do to get him to understand that he could trust you.
“Settrigh–” you tried to plead, but his growl shut you up.
“Sett,” he grunted. “Momma’s the only one who calls me Settrigh.”
“I… I’m sorry.” You didn’t know what else to say to abate his sudden anger.
He scoffed. “Relax, I’m not gonna hurt ya. Just remember that my momma don’t need to know what I really do.”
You nodded definitely too many times for it to look casual as Ciorah came back into the room with a tray of three teacups with a soft purple flower pattern dotting the rims. With Ciorah here, you felt a little safer than being left alone with him, and could take the time to examine him more closely. You sat back down at the table and tried to stifle a laugh at the sight of the heavily-muscled man sitting in a chair half as wide as he was and drinking from a dainty little teacup. Sett caught your nearly-silent giggle and frowned at you.
“Settrigh, do not grip the cup so hard!” Ciorah scolded him, and Sett hastened to apologize to his mother, his furry ears drooping down in a way you realized that you found cute. Such a fierce beast in his pit, but a tamed puppy in front of his mom.
As you sipped your tea, Ciorah fetched your newest figure from its position on a small stand and held it out to Sett, who took it to admire politely.
“She brings me these when she has extra materials,” Ciorah said proudly, smiling at you as she addressed her son. “I told you that she helps Aunt Inora?”
Sett stared at you like he was seeing you for the first time. “The Demacian girl…” he muttered to himself.
Ciorah had told him about you? You felt shy as you wondered exactly how much she had told him about your life. Other than Ciorah and Inora, nobody in Ionia knew your shameful history. You really shouldn’t care, but you felt shame at this man who had grown up with a loving mother knowing that you had travelled across a continent because your family didn’t want you. You tried to ration with yourself that you didn’t need his approval, didn’t need him to like you, but you found yourself longing for any connection with someone your own age. But you didn’t want to seem desperate, so you pushed your emotions away for now and chatted casually with Ciorah, too scared to talk directly to Sett and give him any more reasons to dislike you.
Watching him interact with his mother made you feel happy, but also empty and jealous. Eventually, you were content to just let them talk as you nursed your tea, sinking into thoughts you hadn’t allowed yourself to dwell on in a long time. Thoughts about your family, of how you’d never see them again unless you wanted to give yourself up for death as a Demacian fugitive. That even if you did, they would only ever see you as a black mark on their otherwise-perfect legacy.
You didn’t notice as a tear fell from your face and into your now-cold tea, but both sets of sensitive Vastayan ears perked up at the tiny sound it made. Only when Ciorah called your name did you realize that you were crying.
“Sorry!” you cried out, embarrassed at losing control of your emotions. You stumbled out of your seat, rushing towards the front door, not stopping at the calls of your name from Ciorah as you opened the door and rushed out into the street. You only slowed down when you reached an empty alleyway, wiping your face with your long sleeve as you cursed your own judgment. Less than a day after you had been kidnapped in an alleyway, and here you were being careless yet again.
“Hey!” a shout startled you as your upper arm was gripped firmly, and you looked over to see Sett looking sternly down at you. “What are you doing? You nearly gave ma a heart attack!”
You didn’t have the strength to pull your arm from his grip, and you looked at the ground as you answered. “…it’s nothing.”
“You think I’m stupid?” Sett growled. “Nobody cries without a reason. I understand if you don’t wanna tell me, but I don’t like it when ma worries.”
He wasn’t going to drop it, so you finally looked up at his face, surprised to see that he didn’t look as angry as his voice had sounded. He raised an eyebrow at you, which finally prompted you to talk.
“I don’t know how much Ciorah told you about me, but…” You struggled for words for a moment. “Seeing you two interact just made me miss my family back in Demacia. Which is stupid, because they didn’t want me the second they knew I had magic…”
“Savages,” Sett remarked darkly. “All ma told me ‘bout your past was that you came from Demacia, but after seein’ your magic, I’m not surprised you’re here. Those fools think they’re above lowly magic and then imprison any inconvenient mages that slip through the cracks of their lineage.”
You inhaled sharply, surprised at his words, and he released your arm at last, leaning back against the alley wall. “Besides the pits, ma’s all I got. My pa wanted money more than his family, so he ran off to be a big shot pit fighter in Noxus.”
“Sett…” you whispered, and he turned his sharp gaze to you, arms crossed in front of his chest.
“I don’t need your pity, fireball. As long as I have coin for ma, and keep my pit runnin’, I’m not worried about my pa. As long as he doesn’t show his face back in Navori, that is.”
“Sorry for running out,” you said quietly, feeling very embarrassed about your childish behavior.
“You don’t need to say that to me,” he said casually. “But you really worried ma.”
“I don’t know if I can face her now,” you admitted honestly.
Sett laughed. “She won’t be mad, if that’s what you’re worried about. I’ve gotten on her bad side before and you ain’t even close.”
Sett turned to leave the alleyway and you trailed just behind him. His legs were much longer than yours, but he was obviously slowing his stride to allow you to keep pace with him. You made sure that your eyes were dry when you arrived back at Ciorah’s house, and were embraced by her as soon as she saw you. Somehow, Sett silently standing nearby gave you the confidence to tell her what had upset you. She had held you very tightly, much more than you had thought capable of a woman of her small stature.
By the time she had gotten the full story out of you, the sun had begun to set. Remembering Inora’s warning, you reluctantly admitted that you should head back home.
“Settrigh will escort you home,” Ciorah said sweetly; her tone kind, but firm. You didn’t dare disagree, but you were surprised at how Sett immediately agreed to her request.
He was so clearly a momma’s boy. You felt bad for judging him so harshly upon first meeting him. Though that didn’t excuse him running the violent, thug-infested pits, but you forced yourself to take comfort in the fact that he seemed to only allow willing competitors to fight in matches. You realized that he had never explicitly told you what had been done to your kidnappers, and your fear of running into them on the streets again prompted you to ask him as you departed Ciorah’s home.
“Are they… dead?” you asked quietly, scared of what his answer would be.
Sett shrugged. “I didn’t kill them, if that’s what you’re asking. They’ve been banned from the pit, and encouraged to leave town.”
Your eyes widened in surprise. You were so sure that he had killed them. It was the pits, people died there all the time and nobody ever questioned it.
“Before you go thinkin’ I’m a saint, I did rough them up a bit,” he added. “Can’t have scumbags thinkin’ they can get around my rules.”
It was somewhat reassuring; you felt bad to be disappointed that they were still alive, but hopefully they wouldn’t be in any shape to try and get revenge. You didn’t want to experience any more violence; it was bad enough that you had killed someone, even though you had no choice. Silence dragged on as you walked alongside Sett until you were almost home.
“Y’know, if you ever get tired of Inora, I’m always lookin' for capable fighters,” he said, startling you out of your thoughts.
You stopped in your tracks, gaping at him as you tried to think of how to answer without offending him. He let out a bark of laughter as he stared back at you. “Sorry, city girl, just wanted to scare ya. You’re strong, but I know the pit fighter life ain’t for ya.”
He just said that to bug you? You had genuinely been worried that he would make you fight again! Fortunately, you didn’t have to wait long for revenge as Sett winced with a yelp as he was smacked in the back of the head by a strong hand.
“Settrigh!” Inora scolded. “You never visit anymore, and when I do see you, you’re out here picking on my apprentice!”
“Aunt Inora…” Sett greeted weakly.
She smacked him again. “I don’t tell your mother about your work and you repay me by allowing innocent girls to be forced to fight? What if she didn’t have powers and died!?”
“I’m sorry!” Sett yelped, before noticing you snickering at him again. “Hey!”
“I’ve ignored your seedy business long enough because you take care of Ciorah! You will apologize to this girl, not me!” she demanded.
Sett looked very defeated, and you were taking a bit too much joy out of watching the intimidating man be taken to task by a woman much older and smaller than him, though you would have to ask her how she knew that he ran the pit. He turned to face you with a grimace; he must have been used to her wrath if he folded so easily. Luckily, nobody was around at the moment to see his suffering but you and Inora.
“I’m sorry,” he said, sounding at least halfway sincere.
“Settrigh…” Inora warned, but you couldn’t help but jump in on his misery.
“I’ll forgive you if you let me pet your ears!” you teased him.
“What?” he snarled. “I’m not a–”
“Settrigh!” Inora scolded him with a smack to his biceps. “She’s being a lot nicer than your mother would be if she knew what you did to the poor girl!”
Sett growled, his eyes telling you that he would get you back for making him submit to your request. But you were having too much fun with the large half-Vastayan man and reached a hand up as he bent down to allow you to reach his furred ears. To your glee, they were incredibly soft. You ran your hand along the silken fur until a quiet noise from Sett stilled your hand as you looked back down at his face to see a flush to his skin that wasn’t there before. When he noticed you staring at him, he swatted your hand away at last, muttering something to himself and brushing past you to walk in the direction you had come from without another word.
“That boy is so predictable,” Inora mused as you followed her inside.
“You knew he ran the pit?” you couldn’t help but ask.
“It was hard for him when his father left,” Inora answered. “Hard for Ciorah too. People feared his father, so they were accepted, but they were not liked. After his father left, they no longer tolerated Settrigh. He had no choice but to grow up too soon.”
He had mentioned his father had left, but you didn’t realize he had been bullied. You weren’t sure what to say, so you said nothing and let Inora continue to talk.
“He used to get in fights all the time. Kids would say things to him about his mother and it would upset him. He grew up eventually, but I suspected he hadn’t really stopped fighting. I asked around and found out that he had taken over the pit,” she explained.
“And you didn’t tell Ciorah?” you wondered aloud.
She shook her head. “He begged me not to. With his money, she did not have to work gruelling jobs to support them anymore. I hate to admit it, but this way, Ciorah is safe and healthy. She struggled for a long time after we were forced to leave our tribe, and all Settrigh wants is his mother’s happiness.”
“I can see that,” you agreed. “I was really scared of him yesterday, but after seeing him act like an obedient puppy with you and Ciorah…” You couldn’t help but laugh as you recalled him being bossed around by the women.
“He’s a good son,” Inora assented. “I admit that maybe I went a little far with the ear pats.”
She noted your confusion and giggled. “Vastayan ears are more sensitive than human ears, and Settrigh’s even more than average. His mother used to pet his ears to calm him down when other kids would tease him.”
“Oh, I didn’t mean to–” you started, but silenced you by waving off your concerns with a smile.
“He hasn’t come by in so long, so he deserved a little teasing as my revenge!” she joked. “He needs a break from being a big scary pit boss occasionally!”
“You’ve been distracted lately,” Ryo told Sett bluntly. Other men in his pit would be too afraid of insulting the pit boss to talk to him like that, but Ryo knew that Sett trusted him, and liked to think of himself as the closest thing the Vastayan brute had to a friend. They did not see each other outside of the pit, but they both spent so much time there that it didn’t matter.
Neither one of the men pulled punches with each other, and Sett’s personality change had not gone unnoticed by Ryo. He knew that it had started sometime around when they had dealt with those woman-nappers, but Ryo hadn’t been able to pinpoint what had changed his friend. Sett was as focussed on the coin as ever, but Ryo had caught him lost in thought much more often over the past month. Sett, however, kept his thoughts stubbornly hidden, no matter how hard Ryo tried to pull the secrets from him.
“Caiyana finally make you an offer you couldn’t refuse?” Ryo teased, knowing that there was no chance that Sett would answer in the affirmative. Caiyana, the deadly assassin-turned-pit fighter had her keen eye on Sett since she found her way to the pits. Sett had been cordial, even friendly to her, but Ryo knew the boss well enough to tell that he maintained a professional distance from the beautiful murderess, as much as a pit boss could be called professional.
Sett scoffed. “That woman ain’t into anythin' but Noxian gold.”
“Then you two have a lot in common,” Ryo replied dryly. Sett was blind if he thought Caiyana wouldn’t give up her booking fee for the night if it meant that she could jump the boss’s bones.
Ryo allowed silence to overtake the room as they double and then triple checked the coin count from the night’s lost bets. Ryo focussed his attention on organizing the coins, until everything was all set in its rightful place and Sett had no business to use as an excuse to not answer his friend, so Ryo tried again.
“I’m not stupid, Sett,” Ryo said smoothly. “If not Caiyana, you’ve got someone on your mind. You’re not smooth enough to hide your schoolboy crush from my eyes.”
“You wanna say that again?” Sett growled, and Ryo was confident that Sett prized the bag of coins in his grip too much to throw it at his head for that comment.
Ryo had always liked to get the last word with his burly friend, so he stood up with his modest cut of the night’s profits, sauntering to the door with confidence. “Bring her around sometime. I want to meet the woman that puts up with a momma’s boy like you.”
Sett noticed that people in the streets gave him a wider berth than usual, and he figured he must look as pissed as he felt. He valued his friend’s honesty and loyalty, but Ryo really loved pushing his buttons. They liked to bug each other often, but Sett hadn’t expected Ryo to bring up his love life, non-existent as it was.
Sett had never had flings with women, even after his rise to popularity within the dregs of Ionian society. When his father was still here, nobody really talked to him out of fear. But after the scumbag had run off on them, all hell had broken loose. No girl would look at the fatherless half-breed bastard with anything but scorn in their eyes. And then he had grown some muscles and taken over the pit and only then women became eager to throw themselves at him. He could see through their flattery as if they were made of glass; he wasn’t egotistical enough to believe these women truly had any interest in any part of him other than his prestige and his wallet. They liked the pretty package, but would balk if they got a look inside his damaged soul. None of these women had any time to waste on a bastard with thinly-veiled daddy issues.
He wasn’t about to tell Ryo, but he did have more than the pit to think about as of late. He had run into you a lot lately when he visited his momma in the daytime. He hadn’t noticed it himself, but he had begun to expect you to be there when he stopped by. The last time he had been by to bring ma some more coin, he found himself looking at your usual chair as he entered the home. Ma had noticed immediately, informing him that you were out making deliveries. Sett couldn’t pretend he wasn’t looking for you, but he bristled at his momma’s next sly comment about you being unattached. It seemed that his pensive mood had followed him into the pit, and it annoyed the hell outta him.
Sett didn’t have a crush. He wasn’t a boy anymore, nor an awkward teenager. He had never bothered with women, not unless it benefitted his pit. He was annoyed with himself for wanting to be around you. But he wasn’t about to trust Ryo with that information and open himself up for his friend’s teasing. The pit would be closed for cleaning the next day; it had been a bloodier week than usual, but Sett would welcome the time off so he could have more time to spend with his momma.
You had been too busy to see Ciorah lately, and by extension Sett as well, since you only ever saw him at his mother’s house. A rich collector had come upon your work, and had been commissioning you and Inora to make him various glassworks, which on top of your usual amount of work made you so busy that you had no time for anything else. The worst part being that the collector was sleazy; he insisted that you deliver the finished pieces, and would then make various excuses to keep you in his home as long as possible. You had wanted to tell Inora, but the man had been paying you well, money you knew would really help Inora at the moment, so you put up with it. You had survived the pit and the journey across the Noxian sea, you could take one so-far harmless creep.
You had just finished delivering another sculpture, following the man around his house until he finally decided where the perfect place for his new glasswork would be. You had hoped that would be the end of it, that he would for once have mercy on you and let you leave, but it was never that easy with this guy. You had been standing outside of his house, trying to excuse yourself for around twenty minutes as he continued to ignore your excuses and talk over you.
“…I do paint sometimes, you know. You should come model for me, you’re beautiful enough. I’ve always wanted to paint a nude model in a field of flowers. You’d be very happy as my model, happier than dirtying yourself with glass dust,” he rambled.
“I… I don’t…” You weren’t sure how to refuse him without losing his business; he had never been this bold with his creepiness before. “I like my work…”
“You can’t possibly think you’ll get anywhere in life working in that tiny shop,” he said, and you bit your lip in frustration at his patronizing tone. You needed to get out of here before you really lost it on him.
“You’ve got such a beautiful body,” he drawled, either oblivious or uncaring as to how hard you were trying to exit this conversation. “Your breasts were made to be painted–”
He was startled out of his speech by a large hand on his shoulder. You gasped in surprise, relief coloring your cheeks with warmth as you saw Sett right behind him. You hadn’t even seen him coming. The creep had an entirely different reaction as he stumbled away from the very angry half-Vastayan. The collector fell backwards in his urgency to get away from Sett, falling onto his butt in shock, but still had the nerve to speak.
“Y-you beast! Beasts like you don’t belong in the presence of civilized folk!” he bellowed, pointing an accusing finger at Sett, who lifted an eyebrow, his gaze still sharp and angry.
“You gonna apologize?” Sett growled lowly.
“Apologize?!” the man screeched. “Why should I apologize when you’re the one harassing civilians?”
“To her,” was Sett’s reply as he stared the man down. “That ain’t how ya talk to women half your age.”
“Excuse me?” the man exclaimed, getting red in the face from all the shouting he had been doing. “Mutts like you need to mind their own business!”
Sett’s eyes flashed dangerously at the insult, and your gaze flickered down to his fingers as he flexed them in what you assumed meant that this was going to get ugly. You quickly grabbed the hand closest to you before Sett could reply, and after a moment’s resistance, he allowed you to drag him away from the flustered man who was still on the floor.
“Thank you for your patronage!” you called out in the sweetest tone you could manage as you turned the corner, leaving the creep to cower and sputter on the ground.
“Sett, what were you…?” you queried him as soon as you got what you hoped was a good distance away from the creepy collector’s home.
“Ma needed more milk,” he answered, holding up a small woven bag that you hadn’t noticed that he had been carrying.
“Oh…” you replied stiffly, feeling awkward as you noticed that you were both still holding hands.
Sett looked down at you sternly, and you weren’t sure if he was aware of your joined hands or not. “You shouldn’t let people treat ya like that. Who knows what that bastard would’ve done if I hadn’t stepped in.”
“I know,” you groaned. “He buys a lot from us and Inora really needed the money to replace a torch I broke by accident…”
“Inora wouldn’t take his money if she knew what he was sayin’ to you,” Sett retorted darkly. “No coin is worth a woman bein’ treated like that.”
For such a big, intimidating guy, he sure was sweet to you lately. Sett took you out of your thoughts, tugging your hand to get you to follow him down a familiar path.
“Ciorah’s house isn’t…” you protested in confusion, but Sett’s steps didn’t falter.
“We’ll get there,” he replied. “But first we’re gonna go explain to Inora why you won’t be goin’ on deliveries to that freak anymore.”
You couldn’t bring yourself to protest; after that escalation in creepy behavior, you didn’t want to be anywhere near that guy ever again. You couldn’t help but feel like you were letting Inora down; the creepy guy was the most profitable client in a long time. But there was not a high likelihood that he would be commissioning you in the future after Sett had nearly beat him up. You followed him back home, finding Inora in the workshop finalizing a piece that would go to a sweet older lady who bought works from you for her grandchildren.
“How was–” Inora greeted you before noticing your companion. “Settrigh?”
“She didn’t wanna tell you, but that old creep has been flirtin’ with her,” Sett explained while you awkwardly fiddled with your fingers just behind him.
“What?” Inora gaped. “I knew he had been ordering a lot of pieces, but I never thought…”
Sett nudged you forward, and you figured you should tell her the truth. “Sorry I didn’t tell you… normally he just rambles stories at me and stands too close, but today, he…”
It was too weird for you to say out loud, but Sett didn’t have the same reservations. “The bastard was tryin’ to convince her to model naked for him.”
“He what!?” Inora snarled. “If I could get my claws on him…”
“I was tryin’ to, but she stopped me,” Sett replied, gesturing to you with a jerk of his head.
“Sett!” you scolded him, but Inora barked out a laugh.
“For once, I approve of your violent streak!” she grinned.
You knew they weren’t biologically related, but you couldn’t help but note how familial their bond was. Inora was more outwardly tough than Ciorah, but both women fit so well into Sett’s life.
“Ma’s waitin’ on me to bring her milk,” Sett changed the subject with a sly smirk. “Gonna take her with me so she doesn’t run back to her boyfriend!”
You gaped at Sett, him and Inora laughing at the disgusted look on your face. “I would never–”
“Relax, princess,” Sett snickered. “I’ll protect ya from him.”
You lost all will to argue, his words flustering you into silence. You couldn’t tell if his tone was flirty or not, but the sudden nickname made you blush. Sett seemed oblivious, but you met eyes with Inora, who smiled knowingly at you, and you quickly looked down at your feet.
“You can take her with you, but you’ve gotta promise me you’ll punch that asshole if you see him again!” Inora joked.
“Can do,” Sett answered affirmatively.
“Don’t be too late!” Inora added, winking at you in a manner that left you no room to doubt what she was really saying. You were relieved that Sett had already turned to the door and had missed her wink altogether.
You still weren’t sure why he was insistent on bringing you along, but it had been a while since you had seen him and you had missed the big brute. You followed Sett out of the front door, waving goodbye to Inora as you emerged back onto the early afternoon streets of Navori.
“…how is the pit?” you asked, wanting to say something but couldn’t think of any interests of his besides his mom and his work in your flustered state.
“’s good,” he answered with a chuckle. “Didn’t think you wanted to hear about the pit.”
What could you even say to that? That you just wanted to talk with him and weren’t sure what else to say?
“I…” you trailed off as you entered the streets that made up the marketplace that led to Ciorah’s home.
“I told you I won’t make ya fight,” Sett laughed. “The pit is a place for degenerates like me, not little mages.”
“You’re not a degenerate,” you refuted softly. “If you hadn’t saved me, I would probably still be with those kidnappers.”
Sett scoffed as you both turned onto the street that Ciorah’s house was on. “With your firepower, they didn’t stand a chance in a fight with you.”
You just stared at him, dumbfounded by his confidence in you. You still weren’t sure how you had beat the Noxian in the pit, but it was a weird feeling to have someone who brawled for a living complimenting you on your combat prowess, however little you felt that you possessed anyways. Maybe you should start having more confidence in yourself; he had certainly given you something to think about. Sett knocked on Ciorah’s door as you stepped onto the landing by his side. You felt a sudden onset of emotion as you reflected further on what a good thing it had been for your life for you to meet Sett.
“Hey… are you cryin’?” Sett said, looking panicked.
Before you could answer, Ciorah opened the door to see you wiping away the small tears that had developed in your eyes. Sett looked infinitely more panicked as his eyes darted from you to his mother, and you watched as her eyes narrowed as she looked at the scene in front of her.
“Settrigh!” she scowled. “What did you say to her?”
Sett’s eyes widened in panic at his mother’s ire, an ear in her grasp before he could think to pull away. You quickly followed them into the house, shutting the door behind you.
“It ain’t like that, ma! She just started cryin’!” Sett protested.
“I raised you to be kind to women, Settrigh,” Ciorah replied sternly.
“He didn’t do anything, I promise!” you corrected Ciorah’s impression the best you could, trying not to laugh as Sett rubbed his sore ear when Ciorah released it upon hearing your words. “I was just thinking about… how nice Sett has been to me and I teared up.”
You were embarrassed to have to be so honest, especially since Sett was now staring at you with a look in his eyes you couldn’t read. Ciorah finally abandoned scolding her son to give you a tight hug, which only served to make you feel more embarrassed. You had never cried this often back in Demacia, but that was hardly unusual for Demacia. There was always a high importance placed on being proper and not embarrassing your family. You had grown up with the notion that it was normal to keep emotions – even happiness – out of the public sphere and away from troubling anyone. Thinking back, you realized that you had never even seen your parents cry. Ever.
The only emotions they displayed often were fear and anger. You knew now that was how they kept Demacians in line. By making them fear mages like you that just wanted to be accepted in their twisted society, by making families turn on their kin because of powers they could not help. Ionia was not free of cruelty, but you would never have the entire island turn against you just for using your powers. All of the people you were close to here openly embraced you, powers and all. You would never go back to Demacia as long as you lived; Navori was your permanent home as far as you were concerned.
Ciorah happily accepted the milk that she had sent her son to buy, insisting that you both stay for dinner. You chopped vegetables with Sett while Ciorah oversaw the stew that was simmering. You were having fun, other than Sett dangling cut onions in your face, which made you tear up yet again, Ciorah smacking his shoulder when he teased you for crying. You hadn’t had so much fun in a long time, just sitting around the table with them and chatting as you ate, which was only made sweeter by the fact that you didn’t have to put up with that creepy customer’s behavior anymore. It definitely felt like too soon when it was time to head back home, and this time Sett offered to walk you home without Ciorah’s prompting.
“I’ll see you again soon,” Ciorah told you warmly, giving you a hug.
You stepped back from her and Sett quickly took your place, giving her a kiss on the cheek as she wrapped her arms as far around his broad back as she could reach.
“Love you, ma,” Sett told her.
“And I love you, Settrigh,” Ciorah replied in kind. “Stay safe.”
“Are you going to the pit now?” you asked him as Ciorah closed the door and you both exited her hearing range.
“No need,” he answered. “I can trust those knuckleheads by themselves for one night.”
“If you say so,” you answered in a singsong tone.
Sett playfully raised an eyebrow. “Ya know the pit ain’t all I ever think about.”
You weren’t sure if you were reading too much into his words, and the glint in his eyes. You were paranoid that you were over-analyzing what wasn’t romantic intentions on his side. But no matter what you did, you couldn’t help but hope that Sett would make a move, because you just didn’t have the confidence.
You decided that it would be worth a try to see if you could fish any more information out of him. “So, what else do you think–”
You would not finish your sentence as your arm was grasped roughly from behind, a hand clamping over your mouth and muffling your surprised cry.
Sett snarled and made to dash over to you, but a long, sharp blade to your neck had him pausing in his tracks, feral anger plain on his face. You still couldn’t see the man who held you captive, as any movement from you had him inch the blade closer to the flesh of your neck, and so you kept painfully still. Your situation fully illuminated on you when men began to trickle out of the shadows, including two ugly faces you remembered in detail, even a month later.
They looked even more rough than the night they had kidnapped you. It seemed like Sett’s lesson hadn’t gotten through to them as they closed in on you alongside a dozen or so men who looked just as intimidating.
“Let her go,” Sett snarled, and the venom in his tone shocked you cold, but unfortunately did not have the same effect on the group of men.
“You won’t protect your bitch this time, half breed,” the taller kidnapper sneered to supportive chuckles and jeers from the rest of the group of men.
“Navori is tired of your iron fist,” the other kidnapper added tauntingly. “So we’re gonna do the pit a favor and make sure you never step foot in it again.”
“You can try!” Sett growled, muscles flexing dangerously.
“Fightin’ fair just ain’t in the cards anymore,” the tall man replied, and before Sett had time to react, one of the men dashed forward and threw a sickly yellow powder in Sett’s face, which had him fall to his knees coughing and breathing heavily before he collapsed on the ground. The hand on your mouth tightened as you screamed and struggled. All your struggles did was draw the attention of the men back to you.
“Poor girl,” one man drawled. “About to watch her boyfriend die.”
Your eyes widened, heart beating overtime as you watched the men begin to crowd around Sett’s unconscious body. What had they thrown on him? Ionia definitely had its own drug trade, but you had no knowledge of what the yellow powder could be. But as you watched the men brandish weapons of all sort, you realized that the drug must have been a means to an end. A knockout drug strong enough to render even the large half-Vastayan unconscious. Sett was defenseless, and showed no signs of waking up despite your mental pleas.
“She’s gonna cry,” one of the men articulated with a cruel laugh.
“With him gone, she’s gonna be real lonely!” another man jeered.
“Not for long,” the tall man sneered. “She’s got a big debt to pay us, so we got first dibs. You all can have what’s left.”
You couldn’t lose Sett. You could barely hear what they were saying around you, eyes locked on the gleaming silver of their weapons as they raised them in unison to strike at the downed man you cared so much for. You didn’t wait a moment, because Sett didn’t have a moment to spare if you were going to save his life. The thugs were gleefully unaware, and even the cry of pain from their buddy that held you captive was too late of a warning to save them from your desperate fury.
Your fire reached an inferno in a split second, and the man who held you captive fell back as every part of him that was in close contact with you broke out in burns so hot that this skin bubbled and peeled right off. His last scream would come too late for his friends as you rushed at them, your hair whipping around your face as you slammed into them with the force of an erupting volcano. Your intense fire melted their flesh as you came close, their cries of agony a chorus you were all too happy to hear.
You knew that your kidnappers had been in the mass of men that stood around Sett, but in your fury, you did not see their faces. You did not watch their expressions as they melted away to nothing; they were dead, and not worth any more of your attention. In seconds, you had wiped out every last one. You stood before the ruined men, chest heaving, as you finally came back to yourself and realized that Sett too had been in the center of your inferno.
Shaking your head to clear yourself of your murderous focus, you dropped to your knees beside Sett, who you immediately realized looked completely fine. He had been in the middle of your fiery wrath, but he had not so much as a burn on him anywhere. The only sign that your powers had affected him at all was the slightest beads of sweat on his forehead. How could he be okay? Your fire never hurt you, but this was all-new territory for you.
“Sett!” you cried, placing your hands on either side of his face, tears dripping down your face and onto his jacket. “Sett, please –”
“’s warm.”
His whisper was almost too quiet for you to hear, but his eyes opening ever so slowly confirmed that you hadn’t been hearing things. Sett slowly sat up, rolling his shoulders. He grunted at the impact as you buried your face in his chest, and he slowly sat back up, placing a hand on your back.
“…should go,” he muttered, and you pulled back to look at his face. He clumsily pushed some hair out of your face as you noticed his pupils looked dilated. “We should… we should go,” he slurred.
“Are you… drunk?” you ventured a guess, and he smirked lazily, leaning in to nibble on your neck, which sent a blush to your face and a shiver down your back.
“Nah,” he answered, and you didn’t believe him for a second.
“Can you stand?” you asked him, and he only answered when you backed away from him until he couldn’t kiss at your neck anymore.
He scoffed, lifting himself up a little too fast, his drugged state putting him off balance. You quickly got up as well, grabbing hold of him before he fell over and slinging his arm over your shoulder. Ciorah’s home was close, but you knew that Sett wouldn’t want her to see him in this state.
“Sett, where do you live?” you asked, hoping he would have the mental facilities to properly answer you.
He stared at you intensely for a few seconds before sighing and beginning to walk, forcing you to keep up with him so neither of you would fall over. You were thankful that he just led you silently; you weren’t sure if you could take any more of his drunken flirting. You let him lead you, surprised when you bypassed the wealthy district entirely; you had just assumed that with all the money he made, Sett would live in the most expensive part of town.
The neighborhood Sett finally led you to was one you hadn’t seen before. It was very quiet, only a few people walking around, none of which even bat an eye at you supporting the large pit boss as you walked by. You wondered what kind of a place this was for the sight of the two of you to not be out of the ordinary.
Sett led you up a stony walkway to a very modest home, and you let him off of your shoulder at last so he could lean on the wall and fish his keys out of his pants’ pocket. When he finally managed to retrieve the small silver key, you took it from him. If the walk here was any indication, his coordination was not the best right now. You unlocked the door with ease, and Sett sauntered in, you quickly following behind him and locking the door.
You had clearly underestimated Sett’s recovery time, because as soon as you turned around after hearing the click of the lock, Sett caged you against the door with his body. You stared wide-eyed at the predatory smirk on his face, giving you nowhere to run. You couldn’t tell if this was his true feelings spilling out or if it was the drug. You knew which one you hoped it was, but you couldn’t take advantage of him in this state, not when he could do something he would regret if he weren’t under the influence of the weird powder.
“Sett, you should rest…” you protested, pressing your shaky palms on his chest, ready to push him away if you needed to.
“Nah,” he purred with a grin. “I think I’m good right here.”
“But I don’t know what they gave you, it could be–”
“Stop talkin',” he grunted, and it was all the warning you got before he crushed his lips into yours.
You gasped in surprise, and he didn’t waste the opportunity, sticking his tongue in your mouth and playing with your own. Your fingers gripped at the fur of his long jacket, breaking away from the kiss with a moan when his hands moved down to your hips, pulling your lower body closer to his, a rapidly hardening part of his anatomy brushing obviously against you with the motion. Sett chased your lips, kissing you breathless several times over as you tried desperately to keep up with the rough pace he had set.
You still couldn’t believe this was happening, but you were starting to feel more comfortable kissing him. You wanted him to be as wrecked as you were, and so you did the only thing you could think of that might fluster him and grabbed one of his ears, rubbing it between your fingers. Sett didn’t stop kissing you, but groaned against your mouth. A few more seconds of you repeating the motion had him finally break away from your mouth, and you stared at his beautiful golden eyes as he opened them at last. You were breathing heavily as you watched his gaze trail down your body. You realized that you had once again singed your clothing with your earlier outburst, your top a lot more low-cut than it had been when you had left Ciorah’s home, the singed edges of the fabric hovering at the tops of your breasts.
“Hold on!” Sett grinned.
You stared at him, confused by the mischief in his eyes. Sett wasted no time, his strong arms going around your back and under your thighs as he lifted you into a princess carry. You squeaked in surprise, holding your hands at your chest, unsure of what to do with them.
“Doubt I’ll get tired of this,” Sett remarked, turning around and heading down the hallway. “Last chance to back out, princess.”
He was really testing your newfound commitment to honesty. Your face burned with embarrassment and shame, so you buried your face in his chest as you murmured your answer. “…I don’t want to back out.”
Sett laughed, the vibrations from his chest against your ear as he pushed open a door with his shoulder. You brought your head back up to look upon a rather modest bedroom. The room was dim with the day’s waning light coming through the window, illuminating the large bed that sat in the center of the room. You weren’t given a further chance to examine his bedroom as you were laid on the bed, staring at Sett as he stood just to the side.
“Hope you’re ready, baby,” Sett purred, unlatching his gauntlets and letting them drop to the floor as he shucked his shoes off. “I don’t do anythin’ half-assed.”
You sat up on the bed, figuring you probably shouldn’t be wearing shoes in his nice bed, reaching down and gently removing them and setting them on the floor as Sett removed his jacket. Sett rolled his shoulders back as he stared down at you, unashamed by his own partial nudity as usual.
You had no time to feel self-conscious as Sett was on you again, hand fisting through your hair to angle your mouth against his better. You kissed him back with everything you had, but his efforts overwhelmed you and it was all you could do to grasp at his neck and thread your tongue with his. You wrapped a leg around his hip, and he happily ground his pelvis into yours. You cried out as the bulge there hit against you in just the right spot to send a spark through your body. Sett pulled back, golden eyes dark as he combed a hand through his hair.
“I want you bad, princess,” he growled.
“Sett, I–” you tried to answer him, but then his thick fingers were slipping beneath the skirt you wore and past your underwear to rub at a spot that had you squirming and moaning as Sett stared down at you proudly.
“Betcha never had this in Demacia,” Sett growled as his fingers moved from your clit to push a finger inside you. “At least those jackasses did something right when they drove you to Navori.”
You couldn’t reply, could only moan his name and weakly grip at his arm as he pushed another finger inside you, the pad of his thumb brushing against your clit as he continued fingering you.
“Sett, please–”
“Can’t wait any longer, baby?” he taunted, and you glared at him to the best of your lust-addled ability.
“Fine,” he sighed. “I can’t deny ya anythin’ when you look at me like that.”
Sett rolled over so that he sat at the edge of the bed, licking his wet fingers clean while staring at you haughtily. Standing up from the bed, he peeled his tight pants off of his legs, and you were flustered anew to discover that he hadn’t been wearing any underwear. You couldn’t help but stare at his cock, which looked rock hard as it jutted out proudly from his pelvis.
Sett easily caught you staring, his eyes raking over your still-clothed body. “You need some help?”
You felt overcome with a burst of shyness at what was about to happen. Sett climbed back onto the bed, and you blushed as his cock brushed against your hip. Sett noticed how stiff you were, leaning in to give you short, soft kisses until he felt you visibly relax.
“C’mon,” he prompted. “’s only fair I get you naked too. Been thinkin’ about this since ya melted those thugs.”
“What?” you replied.
“Came to as you torched ‘em,” Sett answered, nuzzling against your neck, mouth at your ear as his hand crept to the bottom of your shirt. “You have no clue how hot you look when you fight.”
Sett’s fingers gripped the hem of your shirt, and you lifted your arms to help him take it off of you. Your shirt was made of thicker material than you usually wore, so you hadn’t worn a bra underneath. Sett was very appreciative of that fact, palming your breasts with his large hands as he looked down at you with the hunger of a predator.
You were so worked up that you couldn’t wait any longer. You wiggled your hips, trying to shuffle your skirt down because Sett was so close that you couldn’t fit a hand between your lower bodies. Sett took pity on you, taking his hands off of your tits to help you shimmy your skirt and panties down and off. Your underwear was feeling a little too damp, so it was a relief to have them off at last.
“No shame if ya need to claw my back up,” Sett teased as he lined himself up with you. “I know I’m a lot to take.”
You frowned at him; there was no limit to his self-confidence, was there? Your irritation only seemed to further bolster him as he grinned happily. You couldn’t even stay mad at him; he was such an overgrown puppy. You hated that all of his quirks just made you more infatuated with him. You would have to rub his ears again and take him down a peg.
But Sett would make the first move, as always. He grasped his cock, holding your gaze as he began to ease himself into you. You closed your eyes, nails digging into your palms as you adjusted to the feeling. He went slow, inching in further and further until your hips met, his legs on either side of yours.
You felt so full, and for all of his grandstanding, Sett wasn’t doing much better. He let out a low groan, moving his hands to either side of your face to keep himself from crushing you with his well-muscled body.
No more words were exchanged as Sett began to move his hips, dropping his lips from yours to nibble at your neck, his hair tickling your cheek. The position brought his furry ears closer to you, and the temptation proved too much and you reached up and pulled on his ears, and Sett’s hips snapped up to yours harder in surprise, the resulting feeling making you moan.
“Should’ve known you’d go for the ears again,” Sett growled.
“They’re so cute,” you replied, barely able to get the words out when Sett moved back to grab onto your thighs and encourage you to wrap them around his hips. He pushed back in, and it was all you could do to grip at his biceps as he got even more brutal with his pace, leaning down to kiss and bite at your breasts, the sensations only heightening the pleasure you felt.
You shut your eyes tightly as you felt your pleasure climb higher and higher, your unintentional clamping of vaginal muscles earning you a groan from Sett as he reached a hand down to rub at your clit as he chased his own end.
“Sett,” you moaned, opening your eyes to pull his face to yours so you could kiss him again.
You could only hold out a moment longer, the kiss getting slower as you reached your peak, your legs tightening around Sett’s waist and walls clamping down on his cock. Sett growled against your lips, slamming down into you a few more times before he stilled, parting from your lips to rest his forehead on yours, grinning like the cat that got the cream.
“I’d say that went pretty well,” Sett declared.
As the haze wore off, you began to wonder exactly what this meant to Sett. You had no knowledge at all of his romantic history, and so you didn’t know what to think.
You tried to sound confident, but your voice came out as a weak whisper. “Sett… what are we?”
He didn’t reply, but leaned down to kiss you. You frowned, dodging so that his lips landed on your cheek. If this was just a fling, he needed to tell you now. You wouldn’t let him avoid the question.
Sett’s eyes opened when he realized that you had moved your face. You gave him a hard look, and he returned it with a toothy grin and a laugh. You felt your heart drop; was he going to laugh at you for wanting more? Was this the last content moment that you would have with him before it all came crashing down?
“Don’t know why you’re even askin’,” Sett said, and you just stared at him, too scared to even breathe. “Ma likes ya… I like ya. You ain’t gettin’ away from me that easy.”

summary: you’ve always been loyal to the king, ever since you became his left hand, but the amount of deaths resting on your shoulders get to you every now and then. you rarely allow yourself to be vulnerable, too afraid that someone might see.. but anyone would have been better than for king yoongi to find you in this situation.
a/n: now, I’m going to be honest. I had to change quite a lot of your request to make it fit the idea that I had, but I think I managed to write it in a way that you’ll still be happy with it @strawbaeree
Tumblr media
If someone had told you as a child this is where you'd end up when you're older, you probably would have cried and then ran away from what was to come. The future and the consequences of that future would have scared you, so much that you wouldn't have been able to fathom it, much less see it become reality.
This life that you lived now wasn't a life that you had chosen willingly. If you have had the choice, you would have done what your mother had always wanted and found love, living a peaceful and content life with your family somewhere on a farm where you’d be bothered by nobody.
But you were never given that choice.
Soon after your mother had passed and you were left to fight for survival, you had stumbled over an ambush in the woods while trying to find some berries to eat. You had heard the screams of a woman who was begging her attackers to kill her and not her son.
Everyone else would have run back to the village and gotten help, but your instincts that you cursed in hindsight made you run towards the ambush, pick up a dagger that you found on the corpse of someone – most likely another attacker that was killed in the ambush – and ram it into the back of the attacker that was threatening the woman and her child.
The woman let out a scream, mostly out of surprise and not shock of all the blood, but you couldn’t scream, not even after you realized that you had just taken someone’s life.
All you could do was watch the man crumble to the ground, dig his fingers into the dirt below him as he tried to get back up, but he simply couldn't. Whatever you had hit when you had stabbed him, it prevented him from moving. All he could do was lie there and slowly bleed out.
It was only when the woman got up and grabbed your face to make you look at her and not at the man on the ground anymore, that you realized who it was that you had saved that day.
Queen Eun Jung and her son prince Yoongi had been on the way back to the palace when they had been ambushed by a group of radicals who thought that the future king wasn't a royal at all, but an usurper. They wanted a distant relative who had been preparing for war against your kingdom to become king.
“The rightful ruler” is what they called him.
If they had succeeded that day, who knew what kind of person you'd be now.
But you had killed that man without having given it much thought on what the consequences of that action would be. Back then, you had just wanted to help. But the queen... she had seen your... 'potential'.
“My son will need a left and a right hand once he becomes king. I want you to be his left.”
You were only a child when she had said that. Left hand had meant nothing to you until you had started your training with the left hand of the – then - king.
Left hand was just a nicer word for the truth.
The truth was assassin. Spymaster. The one who'd do all the dirty work that no one else was willing to do.
You had often thought about running away back then, being so scared about what kind of life was lying ahead of you as you were taken on countless of missions and watched your master kill dozens of people. But what if you ran away? What then? You had no family, no money, nowhere to go. At least in the palace, you had a purpose, a roof over your head and warm meals to fight the hunger.
So you had stayed.
And that is how you became the woman that you were today.
Living in the shadows, never to be seen by anyone or anything except for your – now – king.
When you had met Yoongi, he was a gentle child. Never wanted to hurt a fly and was more interested in playing catch with you than learning about the history of his kingdom. He often snuck into your room at night and told you made-up ghost stories that made you giggle. He stole the sweets that you liked so much out of the kitchens, just because he knew you’d smile once he’d give them to you.
But he had changed throughout the years.
His father had died in war soon after you had joined them at the royal grounds and his mother succumbed to a fever a few years later. Suddenly being all alone, he threw himself into the world of politics, his goal now being that of his parents.
Finally ridding his lands of the treacherous king that would see him lie dead at the foot of the throne that 'the rightful ruler’ so desperately sought.
Now, your conversations didn't revolve around your favorite animal or favorite colors anymore.
Now, all he talked about, was who you should kill to give him any advantage in the upcoming war.
At first, killing was something that kept you up and night. Something that made you sob your eyes out, weep for those that had fallen by your hand. You never forgot the first man you killed, but throughout the years, the faces of those lives that you had taken started to blur, mostly because it was simply too many to remember.
You had become a shell of your past self, a killing machine which only purpose in life was to do what her king commanded her.
Spy.
Kill.
Report.
But every now and then, that little girl that you wanted to hold on to so badly, showed herself.
There was currently a big festival held at the palace after the right hand of the king – his commander – had successfully pushed back a foreign army at the border. A reason for celebration, definitely.
But you had never been one for these festivities.
And so you started to walk towards the only place in here that you ever felt peaceful at.
The huge lake at the outskirts of the royal grounds that was only illuminated by the moon casting its shine down onto the water.
The sound of strings started to fade, slowly, leaving only a faint sound that made you close your eyes and take a deep breath, feeling all the stress, anxiety and sadness slip away for just a moment.
You took off your shoes, raising the skirts of your red robes as you dipped your feet into the coldness of the water.
It was these moments that made you feel most alive and that was unfortunately not a feeling you often had anymore. It was as if the more lives you took, the more you died yourself.
You were so far gone in that moment – something that a spymaster definitely shouldn't be – that you didn't realize the reason for why you were here at the palace approached you. Or rather.. the lake, it seemed. Because you weren’t the only one that pretended to be strong day in and day out, when in reality, they would love nothing more than to just give up.
King Yoongi stopped dead in his tracks when he saw you standing there, his lips parting, even more so when you let your hair down, a sight that he hadn't seen since he was a child.
It was easy to forget that you were a beautiful woman, but as Yoongi was staring at you now, he remembered.
He remembered how fond he was of you when you were still children. How he wanted you to like him so badly, but at a certain point, with the tasks that he gave you, he gave up on that dream. You could never be more than a left hand for him. He had made you do too many bad things for you to see him in a good light.
But every now and then, his mind wandered to a place in which you and him had become lovers, maybe in which you had run away and started the peaceful life that you had always dreamed of.
It was naive to think so, thoughts he’d never say out loud.
But they were loud in his mind when they came.
Yoongi watched you pull out your dagger from under your dress and lean down, dipping it under the water and gently washing it off despite there not being any blood on it. He watched you caress the blade, then hold it up into the moonlight to inspect it, before gently placing it behind you on the grass. And once the dagger was safely put away, you pulled up the sleeves off your dress and started to wipe your arms.
It was only then that he saw the scars.
Some fresh, some old.
You had come back from a mission only yesterday and while you had been successful as always, didn't mean that you didn't run into trouble at some point.
His heart started to do things to him that he didn't like. A king shouldn't feel what he was feeling now.
Regret.
It was his mother that had dragged you to the castle with them, but it was him that gave you task after task. It was him that sent you into dangers again and again. It was him that would ultimately be responsible for your death.
Despite hating it, the feeling was too strong to ignore and so he made himself known by finally walking over to you.
“(Y/N)? Are you alright?”
In your head, you cursed yourself for being vulnerable out in the open, for letting your guard down when others could see you. And it wasn't just anyone that saw you in that state, but the man that should have never seen that you were still a person. Because that would make it harder to give orders.
You quickly put your knife away, pushed your sleeves down and put your hair back up in the ponytail like you did every day.
Yoongi let out a heavy sigh when you turned around and bowed, no sign of the real woman that you were a moment ago left.
You were his left hand again.
Nothing more and nothing less.
“Forgive me, my king. It was a moment of weakness.”
But instead of walking away with a nod like he should have, Yoongi actually closed the distance until he was right in front of you.
“Let me see,” his voice was soft and he reached out for your arms, pushing your sleeves back up.
You should have walked away that very second, but the little girl that liked the little boy so much kept you standing still and watched his every move carefully.
The man that people were so afraid of, that had gotten the title 'the mad king' was standing so close to you, tending to your past wounds with the softest touch possible.
You knew him, you knew that he wasn’t what people made him out to be.
But being so open with you was not something you had expected.
“You don’t have to do that,” your voice was fragile, which rarely happened.
“I know I don't,” he looked up into your eyes, “But I want to.”
It was quiet for a moment, only the faint sound of the strings were still playing in the background. Yoongi gently pulled you out of the water so you were standing in the grass with him before he took another look at the scars. His thumb was brushing over them, so softly as if he was afraid he'd hurt you... more than he already has.
You could tell that's what he was thinking, because despite the relationship you now had, you knew him better than anyone else, maybe even better than he knew himself.
“What happened to us, (Y/N)?” you could see him gulp down hard after his question.
“We grew up,” your eyes never left his face and you weren't startled when he suddenly looked up into your eyes again, even when you realized how close you were, “Life does that to you.”
You could see him think for a moment before his hand came up to your face to brush over a scar on your cheek, a scar that you had gotten young, from a mission that he had sent you on. A mission that you had almost died on.
“I wish it hadn't,” you didn't move an inch now, your breathing even, even when he started to caress your cheek, “I wish we were still the carefree children from years ago. I wish I could still sneak treats into your room to make you smile.”
A thought that often crossed your mind too. It was comforting to hear that you weren't the only one stuck in that time that seemed to have been so much easier.
But unlike him, who seemingly forgot who he was for a moment and where you were, you didn't. You had already let yourself be vulnerable before, but you wouldn’t let him be. You wrapped your fingers around his wrist and smiled softly at him, “I think it'd be better for you to go back to your festivities, my king.”
What surprised you was the hurt look that flashed over his face for just a split second.
But you still saw it.
You didn't know what he had hoped would happen tonight, maybe for you and him to finally be honest with each other and not pretend like you were nothing other than his tool for killing, but apparently you didn't want that.
Or so Yoongi thought, when he cleared his throat and walked away without another word.
But it wasn't like that.
You were simply doing what you had always been doing.
Protecting him.
Your eyes wandered to the man standing in the shadows that had watched all of this. It was only when Yoongi was gone that he retreated back into the shadows.
“In another life, Yoongi,” you whispered to yourself as you slipped back into your shoes, before following him, “But it can't be this one.”

wow! that's an amazing list. “i’ve been falling in love with you since the first day we met”
A continuation of other tumblr prompts I’ve made into a fic - here
Hopefully chapter four will be the end lolol this fic has been far longer than I intended it to be.
---
Kagome stared out at passing scenery beyond her window with a glazed look dulling her eyes. Heavy thoughts carried her attention far away from the mundane train ride. She hadn't visited Kyoto in years, and especially not for such a special reason before.
Shippo's voice had sounded so strange on the phone. Mature, but not overly deep, maintaining its playfulness. He'd invited her over for a visit right away.
A 'bing!' noise roused her enough to check her phone- which showed a picture of Natsuki posing with a spear and fresh kill.
Kagome snorted, resting her chin on her knuckles. There were a few things about Natsuki that she was surprised Sesshoumaru hadn't commented on.
Number one; her boyfriend was a demon.
And number two; he was, specifically, an inuyoukai. A mongrel. She imagined Sesshoumaru felt mighty smug to know she'd found a demon of the same species as him to date. Natsuki being of mixed breeding surely made the Daiyouki feel all the more superior.
But Kagome had never cared about such things. She'd loved Inuyasha once, too.
The short version of their 'getting together' just two months prior was that she'd located a demon bar a few years ago and had been dating youkai ever since, using the place as a means to meet them. The relief of finding the secret den of long-forgotten youkai had been unparalleled. Kagome now knew exactly how to locate and see through glamorous thanks to years of experience.
She'd found out through the process of elimination that humans just kind of...weren't enough for her. Kagome needed the youki, the rush- the bite of claws, talons or fangs.
Natsuki was one of many in a long line of potential 'forever' partners, but Kagome had long since stopped expecting marriage down the line. If they lasted, that was fine. If not, that was fine too.
She had resolved never to fall hard for someone again.
Natsuki left Tokyo a few days prior to go on a hunting trip with his pack in a remote location up in the mountains, a monthly tradition.
'Can you skip it this time?' Kagome had asked. 'I'd just...really like it if you could come to Kyoto with me?'
'But I don't know your fox friend.'
'Doesn't matter- he hasn't seen me in 500 years. I would feel so much better if you were there.'
Natsuki looked as though she'd spat in his breakfast. 'Ah, uh-' he ran an awkward hand through his light-brown hair. 'I guess?'
The hesitancy and look in his eyes- begging to be let off the hook- made Kagome force a smile and drop the subject.
She sighed, figuring they'd probably break up soon. There wasn't really anything wrong with their relationship, just a difference in values and priorities.
It seemed to be the norm. No huge fight. No big dramatic breakup. Usually she even stayed friends with her exes.
Sesshoumaru was the outlier in all things.
She made certain not to tell the Daiyoukai of her impending singleness. If he was irritatingly optimistic now- Kagome imagined he'd be a nightmare to shake off if she were available.
But he'd stop if I outright told him to never speak to me again.
Her lips thinned, stomach turning at the mere thought.
For the rest of the journey, she resolved not to think about him. And failed miserably.
----
Shippo had greeted her at the door with an enormous hug the second she'd arrived at his hilltop home. Brilliant red hair had grown longer, swept back into a ponytail. Since his house perched a little further out from most of the houses, he wore no glamour. The pointed ears and foxtails- five of them- Kagome counted, were on full display.
Tears pricked her eyes, and she hugged him back fiercely.
His wife was pleasant, though a little eccentric for a racoon youkai. She'd made a 'welcome' banner and everything for Kagome's arrival.
Three young kits with dark circle markings around their eyes raced around the house- which had crayon drawings sprawled all over the walls at waist-height. Shippo and his wife seemed to have given up on house maintenance, but they were a happy family.
Blue eyes softened as Kagome sat with him in the relative privacy of his art studio. She was so pleased he'd found happiness. As they talked, she bent down- reaching into her bag for her phone to show him some pictures of her workplace- only for it to tip over.
A small bottle of pills rolled out, stopping by his foot.
Kagome paled. She glanced away from his questioning look as he handed them back to her. "Reiki suppression pills?" he asked.
"How'd you know?"
"I've got friends in Tokyo. You're not the only priestess who secretly dates demons," he shrugged, pinning her with a calculating look. "But, it's kind of a shame you feel the need to take them."
Kagome forced a smile, tucking them away, "yeah well- it's because I'm so big and strong," she joked. "I haven't met a demon in Tokyo who could withstand my aura if I really let it out. Taking these is easier. Gives demons the 'flavour' of dating a miko without actually getting burned. It just thins my powers a little."
Shippo nodded in acceptance and swiftly changed topics since it made her uncomfortable. He chattered on about his life, detailing the 500 year gap between when they'd seen each other last. Apparently, after Miroku and Sango had passed, he'd taken to spending more time with Sesshoumaru. When Inuyasha had died, he'd started living with the Daiyoukai permanently.
"You...did?"
He nodded, hands wrapped around his steaming mug of tea. A handmade bracelet clasped around his wrist, and the mug was half-melted, made from clay. Clearly they'd both been crafted by three well-meaning kids. "I guess we were gonna talk about him eventually," he smirked. "I promise not to be biased, okay? Sure, he saved my ass, but you're still my favourite."
Warmth flooded her heart, and Kagome giggled a little despite herself. "You're talking like we're your divorced parents or something," she mused, sobering. Taking a long breath, she stared at her own misshapen mug. "What happened?" she asked quietly. "Why didn't he create a pure-blooded heir?"
Shippo sighed, sweeping a hand through voluminous red hair. "He chased after you pretty much a second after you left through the well. Only he couldn't get through."
Her chest tightened, body stiffening.
"He's told me before though...that regretting what happened wouldn't have been enough, and maybe it was better he didn't stop you. He still felt the same at the time, deep down; that only a pure-blooded heir should take over the Western Lands to ensure he was survived by a long-living heir. He was gonna do it," Shippo muttered. "He was prepared to lay with an inuyoukai to produce an heir, but when the time came he just...couldn't. It frustrated him for a long time."
Kagome took a sip of her lukewarm tea, lips thinning. "He could've taken a mate. It didn't have to be some random woman."
"Heh, yeah but his inuyoukai instincts had already chosen a mate," Shippo winked at her. "And no matter how much he tried to force logic onto himself, his instincts refused to budge. You weren't dead, so in his mind, he couldn't move on. He's remained your captive all this time."
Her eyes widened, swallowing. "That sounds terrible!" she burst, frowning. "What the hell...I'd resent that. Why doesn't he hate me?"
"Hard to explain but...he could have moved on, Kagome," the kit sighed. "If he really wanted to. He's the one who lacked the desire to change how he felt about you. So, despite some relationships, Sesshoumaru has pretty much maintained his bachelor lifestyle."
Kagome stood from her seat, setting down her tea and distractedly looking at Shippo's art pieces, picking up a sketchbook and flipping through it.
Sharp green eyes searched her guarded features. "You're still in love with him, right?"
"Some habits are hard to kick," she said softly, pausing on one sketch. Her vision grew blurry.
Shippo rose and swept the shuddering miko into a hug before she could drop the sketch of Sango and Miroku. He held her for a long time, and they moved on to talking about their friends. About all the things they'd done and the happiness they'd shared.
"M-maybe I...left too quickly," Kagome mumbled, wiping at her wet cheeks.
"Nah, don't get that thought stuck in your head," Shippo rested a hand on her head, gently ruffling the dark strands. "You wanted distance between you and Sesshoumaru. It's not your fault the well shut."
"Why did..." swallowing thickly, she looked up at him, oddly feeling like a child in comparison to his steady, easy-going presence. Like nothing in the world could shock or frighten the little kit anymore. "It took him 6 years to come talk to me, why is that?"
Shippo's smile turned slightly sad. "He wouldn't want me to tell you. In fact, he'd kill me for giving you this-" Shippo reached into his pocket and took out a vial.
Kagome understood what it was almost immediately, accepting the glamour with a perplexed look.
He then scribbled down the name of a random park in Tokyo she hadn't visited before, handing it over with a smirk. "Put that glamour on and visit this park on either Tuesday or Thursday, weather permitting. You'll find him near the duck pond."
She arched a brow, eyeing the vial. "He'll recognise me, even with a glamour on."
"Nah, that's my own creation- and I'm pretty darn brilliant at magic now!" he puffed out his chest, tilting his chin up in a very Sesshoumaru-like manner. Shippo then smiled warmly, taking the sketchbook and tearing out a page. "He's not being honest with you, but it's not outta nefarious purposes. You'll see," he reassured her. "He's changed. Even if he's still an asshole."
Kagome accepted the page, freezing. Her fingers stiffened, emotion clogging her throat at all the implications that came with the picture. She couldn't help but cry again in the safety of Shippo's arms- promptly bursting into tears while on the train ride home too.
Shippo's sketch remained clutched in her hands.
The weight of so much wasted time rested upon her heavily, making the woman bend low in her seat, ignoring the stares of other passengers and letting out several years of loneliness and disappointment. How her skin had ached and burned up with a fever of remembrance- straining for a demon lord to take her wrists and kiss her palms like he once had.
---
Overcast skies blocked out the sunshine that Tuesday, so she wondered if he'd show. The glamour had made her look like a 40-year old, a few grey streaks in her magically short hair. Brown eyes stared back at her instead of blue. She smelled like lavender and home cooking. Kagome sat upon a bench and pretended to read beside the duck pond. An available bench sat further away, nearer to the empty play park.
It was there that a dark-haired man eventually sat, five children having followed him. A lanky teen took a seat next to him, his hair short and grey- eyes milky white with blindness. Kagome squinted from behind her book, sensing he was a snake youkai. Two young hanyous of differing species immediately ran to the play park, squealing. One had concealed horns, the other hiding their leopard spots behind a glamour.
A human girl around the age of 11 carried a toddler to the edge of the duck pond, talking quietly with him and pointing to the ducks.
Kagome held back the hot sting of tears, forcing her gaze to the book in her hands and robotically turning a page.
"Shinto needs to get out of his room," the snake youkai was muttering sourly.
"There is little I can do. Did you wish for me to carry him kicking and screaming to the park with us?" Sesshoumaru snorted, elbows bent to rest on his knees.
Kagome glanced at him furtively from the corner of her eye.
Gone was the easy confidence he'd presented to her during their encounters- the impeccable dress-sense and untouchable air of a bachelor. He looked like a mess. Or rather, a single parent struggling to juggle too much at once. He wore a jacket that had seen better days, hair dishevelled and slight lines under his eyes.
"Maybe that would've been better," his adopted child was muttering, soon sighing and glancing to the side as Sesshoumaru toyed with his phone. "Do you even have her number?"
Sesshoumaru arched a brow, feigning ignorance. "Hm?"
"You know who I am referring to. Just ask for it from Uncle Shippo."
Dark lashes lowered, followed by a rich, silky chuckle that made Kagome's skin warm. "Such underhanded methods, Hiroji," he teased, "no wonder you're not popular with women."
Hazy eyes gazed in his general direction flatly, huffing. "Please refrain from trying to dodge the question. Have you actually asked this 'Kagome' woman out yet?"
"I invited her to coffee."
"Such a cheap date, Papa!" the human girl by the duck pond smiled, carrying her brother back to them. "Couldn't you have invited her ice-skating, or to a fancy restaurant?"
"Or to the park!" one of the Hanyous yelled from the swings.
Sesshoumaru cut his eyes to grey skies fondly, accepting the toddler from his daughter. "The location does not matter. Miss Higurashi is not easily swayed," he uttered, large hands toying with little boots. The toddler giggled, kicking his legs. "Initially, I wished to bury her with gifts, but she would merely see that as an attempt to 'buy' her. No, I sense only a display of humility and regret will soften her opinion of me, however that seems quite impossible."
"Hm? Why's that?" his daughter asked.
"Because I do not wish to use you all as an example of my having 'changed.' It would feel as though you are mere tools for my redemption," brown eyes slid away. "My mindset altered gradually over the centuries. No large thing triggered it. I know of no other way to prove myself other than introducing her to you."
Kagome could tell by the twitching of his fingers and the way he kept brushing them over his jaw absentmindedly that he was itching for a drag of his pipe. She'd wondered if he still occasionally smoked. He must've decided not to around his children.
"Sounds like heavy stuff," the girl hummed, patting his shoulder in consolation. "Can't you just say-" she cleared her throat, voice deepening into a poor imitation of Sesshoumaru's- "Miko, I've been falling in love with you since the first day we met. Fall into my arms~"
Deep brown eyes flattened, and he playfully shoved a hand into her face. "Things are not so easily fixed, Akiko."
"I see. Well, don't worry! If it doesn't work out, we can all go ice-skating instead!"
Sesshoumaru tsked, sinking back into his seat and allowing the toddler to snuggle up on his chest. "How dull. I'd much prefer to go on a date with a beautiful woman than babysit you brats."
Akiko only giggled and whined good-naturedly, calling him a 'meanie' before running off to join the Hanyous on the swings.
Left in silence, the Daiyoukai's brows knitted together, thoughts clearly far away.
Mild concern softened Hiroji's boyish features. "You should try talking to her again," he said quietly, so faintly Kagome could barely hear it.
"Hn, and why is that?"
Shifting, the snake demon glanced sightlessly in Kagome's direction- causing her blood to freeze in her veins. "I suspect she may be more receptive to speaking with you now, that is all. Call it a hunch."
Stiff shoulders slowly relaxed upon realising he wasn't going to expose her. After a few minutes, Kagome rose from her spot and slipped away from the park.
In the comfort of her own apartment, Kagome gazed at the sketch Shippo had given her; Sesshoumaru sleeping without a glamour obscuring his exotic features. Resting on mokomoko, his knees, and the crook of his arm were children, different from the ones at the park, but just as mixed in species.
It implied he'd been adopting them for centuries. What had started with Rin all those years ago- the accidental adoption of his first child, had become a long-enduring habit. And it also gave Kagome the stupid, insidious idea that maybe he wanted hanyou children now. Maybe he wanted them with her.
And that was too dangerous a thought to linger on if she was incorrect.

“Yes, mom, I packed my charger and my vitamins. Oh my god, of course, I have my scarf. Mom!”
Your mother continued to press you about things any woman would never forget packing. This was how she was normally. Almost morning, she would make her routine calls. First to your sister Atali, then to you. When she made it to you, she’d ask if you ate, and of course, by the time she called you, you were usually at work or on your way to it, and you wouldn’t have eaten. Then she’d ask you why you hadn’t eaten, to which she’d go back and forth with you about the importance of eating a well-balanced meal. Somehow that would lead to her asking how you expected to find the one when you didn’t eat enough. It was a never-ending thing with her. She was obsessed with you and your sister finding the one.
You understood. Your parents had been married for well over two decades, and they were still disgustingly in love. There was also no one like your dad, so you understood. They both saw what a catch they both were. After she told you the story of how she finessed your dad and got married in record time, it always turned into focus on you finding someone to marry. No matter how many times you told her that even though marriage was great and all, you weren’t in any hurry, it never registered.
“Mom, I have everything I need. It is just supposed to be a two-week cruise.”
“You’d be surprised the things you realize you left once you’re at sea. Then it will be too late,” Cynthia, your mother warned.
“Then I’ll just buy it. Mom, I’m not going to the middle of nowhere. I am going on a huge ship from one of the world’s most reputable companies. I am positive they have every possible thing I could want to buy onboard. Plus, when we dock at ports, I’ll be able to buy much more.”
“You’re always buying. Gah, I blame your father. He spoiled you and your sister rotten.”
“I am not spoiled. It’s not like I haven’t worked for my money. Yes, daddy helped me set up my company, but I got where I am today because of me,” you professed.
“I know, sweetheart, you don’t have to preach to the choir. All I’m saying is your daddy’s wealth only helped spoil you and Lali more. I saw it in you at the playground the most. You always wanted what the other kids were playing with. If it was a ball, you tried to take it. If it were the swings, you’d overtake it, toys in the sandbox my goodness those kids would end up with sand in their eyes and you alone with the toys.”
“Some would call that persistence, hardworking, and assertive.”
 Your mother laughed then tsked.
“I’m surprised that when you were in high school, I never got a call about you getting into a fight because you stole some girl’s boyfriend.”
You pursed your lips, but as you were going to open your mouth to respond, your phone vibrated, signaling a notification.
 “Hang on, mom.”
You thanked the Lyft driver for helping with your bags then checked your phone.
MSG Javii: I’ve been calling you all night. Come on, Chaton (kitten). You have to talk to me at some point. Tu me manques (I miss you).
You sighed and rolled your eyes. He had some nerve, you thought.
 “Ajali, hello!”
“Yes, mom, I’m here. Sorry. I was getting my bags together.”
 “So, you’re really doing this?”
 “Yes, mom. Why wouldn’t I?”
“Who goes on a cruise alone? What about the man I heard in the background of our call a few weeks ago? Why not go with him?”
You rolled your eyes again, thinking about that man in the background a few weeks ago who was on your shit list.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about. It was the tv,” you lied.
“Ajali--,” your mother began before you cut her off.
“—Plus, mom, it’s a Disney cruise,” you stressed.
“Exactly. The people who go on Disney cruises are families, wives, husbands, kids. You are neither of them and have nether of them.”
You balanced your phone on your shoulder and rolled your luggage toward the designated pier.
“I just need some time to myself to clear my head and destress. Two weeks.”
“Ignore your mother, my petal. You take the time you need. I’ve told you, and your sister working is important, but living is just as important. You don’t live to work; you work to live,” your father said.
 “Thank you, daddy.”
“Plus, maybe you will find a worthy man on this cruise while you’re living,” your father slid in.
“Oh god, not you too, daddy.”
“We are unified in this, Lulu. He may wear the pants, but I control the buttons and the zipper if you know what I mean.”
You tasted vomit in your mouth.
“Eck! That is disgusting, mother. On that note, I gotta go.”
“Wait, wait, enjoy yourself, my petal. We love you.”
“Love you too, daddy, love you, mom.”
With that, you ended the call and continued to walk toward Pier eighty-one. You passed families with rowdy children who looked like they couldn’t wait to get ice cream wasted, couples who looked as if they couldn’t wait to get to their suites and even elderly couples who were dressed to the nines for vacation, including already applied sunscreen and sunhats. Despite what your mother thought, Disney cruises were for everyone.
You’d purposely chosen Disney because you didn’t want to be around other couples who were loved up and nauseatingly adorable, spewing love in the air. You wanted to be as far from that as possible. Love was the last thing on your mind. You were going on this cruise to get away from it. Your phone vibrated and went off twice.
MSG Atali: Have you made your getaway yet?
You stopped rolling and went to reply.
MSG: Almost. I’m walking to the boarding line now.
MSG Atali: I think you’re doing the right thing. Space and time. In two weeks you’ll know what you want to do. I hope it’s what we talked about.
MSG: I know, Lali, I know.
MSG Atali: Have some fun too. It’s Disney.
You could picture her face as you read it. She was probably cheesing at this very minute.
MSG: Thank you for looking after the company while I’m gone.
MSG Atali: Boo, you know it’s my company too, right. Don’t worry; our clients will be taken care of. I’ve got it covered.
You knew she did. Atali was the older one and had always acted like it, even though she was only nine months older. You knew she could take care of things on her own while you were away.
MSG: I know, still. Thank you.
MSG Atali: You’re welcome, Lulu. Call me later. Margaret Bailey’s appointment is next. Apparently, she’s throwing some party, and she wants to be the envy of everyone.
MSG: Eck, you have your work cut out for you. Bye.
As you were putting your phone away, another message came in.
MSG Javii: Chaton (kitten), call me, please. Don’t you think you’re dragging this out a little?
You almost said, “are you stupid” out loud. The man had some nerve. Dragging it out? You rolled your eyes as another message came in.
MSG Javii: Je t’aime (I love you).
Just like that, you melted. He was playing on the fact that your father was French, and the language itself was a favorite of yours. He was not a stupid man; he was a smart businessman.
MSG Javii: I’m sorry. I know we’ve talked about it, but you have to give me more time. Please.
Unbelievable, you thought as you exited your messages and stuck your phone into your back pocket. You turned and ran smack dab into someone’s hard body.
“Shit. I’m so sorry,” you rushed out even as you were falling back.
A pair of strong arms grabbed you and firmly held you, preventing your fall.

“It’s okay, you’re lucky I don’t mind beautiful women bumping into me,” a deep masculine voice said. You knew it was a man, but you couldn’t see his face even though he looked to be well over six feet. His head was dipped low, and the hat he wore over hair that fell to his neck was so low you couldn’t see anything but the full beard that showed off a chiseled jawline.
He set you right side up and slowly brought his hands from your arms back to his side. “Stay safe out there,” he said before he walked off.
You stood there for a few moments, then looked back to where he’d walked and watched him saunter away. He had a slight dip to the way he walked that could either be seen as a happy go lucky type of thing or something that said he had some sort of swagger. Before you stared any longer, you sprang into motion with wheeling your luggage to the growing line to board the ship. Thankfully the line went quickly thanks to the ten different lanes that had ship staffers ready and eager to help guests.
When it was your turn, a friendly-looking woman with a trendy bob cut explained what to do. While she talked, her smile never fell, but you didn’t really pay attention because her uniform was so distracting. She had on a purple and green hat that had mermaid scales and Ariel printed all over it. This hat matched the shirt and skirt combo she wore. Her shirt was two-toned, on one side was Ariel’s face, and on the other was mermaid scales while her skirt was plain white. It looked like The Little Mermaid threw up all over her. You didn’t expect anything else; it was a Disney cruise after all.
After doing all the check-in steps, such as handing off your rolling luggage to the ship porters and taking a photo for your provided identification wrist band that the crew will use to identify you and your indicated needs, you boarded the ship. All the friendly faces you passed all looked happy to welcome you to Disney Cruises and to direct you to where you wanted to go. The noise inside was much louder inside than it was out. The kids that looked excited outside looked downright jubilant inside as they posed for pictures with life-sized Disney characters and got welcome ice cream treats.
You were even tempted to take a picture or two, but you decided against it. What you did not decide against was ice cream. You took an offered vanilla cone and kept on your way, looking around the ship as the other guests did. From your research, this was the best-rated cruise this year. It was a newer Disney ship and one that cost over ten million dollars to design and build. Everyone said it was the Rolls Royce of Disney cruises.
Tumblr media
From what you saw with the décor looked to have cost a fortune. There was glass, fancy lights, and marble everywhere. It was clear they didn’t skimp on funding and clear that they had the comfort and luxury in mind. There were plants around the central atrium that gave off that tropical vacation vibe and even paintings and pictures hanging on the walls that further pushed the agenda that this was supposed to be a fun time for all.
The more you walked around looking at different areas, the more you were impressed. If the gathering areas looked this upscale, you were even more excited to see your suite.
“Can I help you with anything, ma’am?”
You shook your head and smiled at the man wearing Hans all over him. “I’m all right, thank you.”
The next thirty minutes or so were spent walking around while following the map in your hand. You found and noted where the spa, library, on-ship garden, movie theater, bowling alley, tropical setting wave pool, and best restaurants and bars were. You had every intention of soaking up all the luxury that you’d paid top dollar for. When you saw a few amenities that you hadn’t expected, your jaw dropped. You had no idea why there was an ice skating rink or an indoor sky flying dome that had the tallest clear tube you’d ever seen. You didn’t know who’d designed this cruise, but you knew it must have cost millions. You were sure you wouldn’t be getting in that sky flying dome.
When you finally got the alert that your suite was ready, it was well after one in the afternoon. The walk among the crowds was noisy. Everyone was either talking about what they wanted to do first, how enormous and beautiful the ship was, or making a plan for the cruise duration. In between all the chatter, there of course, were the screams and cries of babies and toddlers who were already losing their shit.
This is what you’d expected when you decided on this Disney cruise over another like Carnival or Norwegian. You knew that the other passengers would be of a specific age range leaning on the younger and family-oriented side, which meant you wouldn’t have to fight off unwanted suitors who tried to shoot their shot. It also meant that you wouldn’t have to deal with any sort of drama that usually happened on a cruise with young adults all looking to hook up. That was not what you needed right now. You wanted to stay as far away from hooking up or eligible men that had blue eyes or a perfect head of hair, or abs that were chiseled by Michelangelo himself, or an ass that would make a mannequin jealous.
On the elevator ride to your floor, you caught the eye of an adorable little boy with a complete head of luscious dark locks and doe eyes with an unmeasurable depth. His smile was innocent. Every time your eyes met his, he hid behind his mother. When you looked away, he looked back at you. After two or three playful back and forth glances, which had him becoming more adorable, you surprised him by not looking away. When he realized it, his squeal was so childlike and filled with so much glee that everyone on the elevator had to giggle. Over the next several minutes, the passengers on the elevator got off group by group until it was just a few people remaining.
“Sixth floor,” the elevator attendant announced.
You made your way through the door but gave the adorable boy a look. “Have a fun cruise, cutie,” you said with a wink before the doors closed with the sound of his giggles. You looked at your phone to remind yourself which room was yours, then glanced at the numbers on the wall that directed you where to go. The dinging sound of an elevator brought your attention down the hall to your right to see one man walk off. His hat was dipped down low, but you noticed his face was buried in his phone before he turned and walked in the opposite direction of you.
Focusing on the signs on the door, you walked down the left side of the aisle. It didn’t take you long to realize your room was at the end of the hall. Once you reached it, you glanced back to see the same man with his tipped low hat. It looked like the same man from before outside the ship. It couldn’t be, you thought. The odds were not that small. As you opened your door, you saw him disappear into the room at the opposite end of the hall.
Once you walked inside, you immediately thought that this was what you got when you had Atali handle the arrangements. The theme of the room was clearly sky blue. The couch in the living area was a satin, silky sky blue that looked as if it was plush and comfortable. It matched the blue and grain colored carpet before it perfectly, and the abstract blown glass art on the wall. The colors all worked together to give you a sense of peace. It wouldn't have been something you’d chosen because, unlike Atali, you liked to keep things as low maintenance as possible. Just because your family had money doesn’t mean you had to look or behave as if you did.
When you walked into the bedroom portion of the stateroom, you saw your suitcases waiting for you in the far left corner of the room. The sunlight pouring in from the screened balcony bathed the room in a beautiful, cheerful yellow that was so inviting that once you kicked off your shoes, you had to step out into it. The temperature was not blazing hot because it was just the middle of April in New York, and that meant a mix of chilly and warm days with the occasional possible snow shower. The salty air of the sea was one of your favorite smells. You remembered when your father took your family to France on your yearly family vacation. As a child, you loved the beach and the salt of the sea. When you became an adult, nothing had changed.
Not realizing how long you remained on the balcony, an intercom announcement came on.
“Attention passengers, this is Lucas Albright, one of your captains. It is with great pleasure that I welcome you aboard this Disney Enchantment Cruise.”
He paused, and you could hear the uproar of cheers and claps from over the intercom as well as in the halls and neighboring staterooms.
“We are all excited to host you on this two and a half week christening journey from New York. I say christening because you lot are the first to travel on this brand new ship. This is her maiden voyage.”
More cheers and applause came for what felt like forever.
“We will be on this beautiful vessel for two days, at which time we dock in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic at approximately eleven o’clock in the morning, where you can enjoy plenty of the excursions and activities for the day.”
Again applause followed. Everyone was undoubtedly excited about this cruise. You tried to get out of your funk and onboard the excitement train.
“We will then set sail again, leaving port at ten o’clock that evening and moving on to two days at sea until we reach our second destination of Port of Grand Turk in beautiful Turks & Caicos. At that time, we dock at eleven 0’clock and lift anchors at ten o’clock. From the beautiful Turks & Caicos, we will be at sea for two days until we reach the tropical breezes of the British Virgin Islands!”
You were already making some mental plans for everything you wanted to do at each port.
“After spending out eleven o’clock to ten o’clock time there. We set sail to the glorious white sandy beaches of—Arrrruuuba!”
At that time, the classic Beach Boys song Kokomo came on at the Aruba part. It was so corny, but everyone seemed to love it. You shook your head as the short clip of the song played loudly until it was lowered to play in the background.
“Again, we’re docking at eleven o’clock to set sail again at ten o’clock. We are then at sea for three more days until we get to Ocho Rios, Jamaaaaica!”
As he spoke, you went around the room, placing things you’d need and freshening yourself up. When he finally finished giving the itinerary, you were situated and checking the schedule of events for the day. All in all, it was set to be an action packed seventeen days at sea. Atali must have chosen this length because she knew seven or ten days would not be enough time.
“All right, ladies, gentlemen, kids, and big kids, I hope to see you all at the welcome mingle we’ve scheduled to begin within the next twenty minutes or so, at which time we will lift anchors and say sayonara to New York and aloha to the seven seas.”
He had a voice for radio or a game show. It was velvety deep, just what many women seemed to like these days. You grabbed your phone and crossbody bag and walked out of your room. You had a mission before you lifted anchor. Everyone was still abuzz with talk of the itinerary as more of the beach boys played over the ship speaker system. Vacation vibes were in full effect. Once you got to the media area, you promptly purchased your airtime so your cell would be able to work while at sea. You knew your mother would have a heart attack if you went two days without checking in with her. You didn’t think it was because she was that attached to her children though, you knew it was her motherly duty to remain up in the tea, so she felt continuously connected. As she got older and older, you realized it more and more.
As soon as that mission was completed, you made your way to the top deck where the mingle was being held. As you stepped out into the sun, you marveled at just how extravagant Disney had chosen to go with this ship. Several feet before you stretching obscenely high into the air, you saw something that looked like a rollercoaster. There were plenty of other passengers pointing to it and excitedly chattering about it. You made a mental note to stay as far away from it as possible. Who would think to ride an insanely high rollercoaster on a cruise ship in the middle of the ocean?
Slowly you walked around the deck, cordially smiling at those you passed. You passed a bar area and took one of the prepared cocktails, and proceeded to find a good spot at the side of the ship to watch them lift anchor. After several minutes of searching and bumping into all the excited kids and passengers who were posing for pictures with friends, family, and Disney staff, you found an excellent spot to press your back against.
Across the way, a familiar hat caught your eye. It was him, you thought. He always kept his head low and tried to steer away from big crowds. It was strange to you considering he’d chosen to get on a cruise ship filled with hundreds of people. He wouldn’t be able to escape the crowds. Your eyes followed him as he walked to another bar to grab one of the drinks there. As he did, he joked with the bartender, and it was then you saw a flash of his pearly smile. You couldn’t tell if he was attractive or not, mostly since all you’d gotten were glimpses of pieces of his face. Part of you wanted him to take off the stupid hat so you could be sure, but the other part—the sensible part that remembered why you’d chosen a Disney cruise slapped your ass back into focus.
 “Welcome, Disney guests!”
In response, everyone around you screamed, clapped, cheered, and stomped so loudly the sound could have rivaled that of a rave.
“We are pleased to welcome you once again!”
As one of the staff members continued to speak about the ship procedures, expectations, highlights, amenities, and more, you continued to look around the deck, taking in all the grandeur before you. It didn’t take long to get lost in the directory you held. Again you took note of where everything was that you wanted to experience and even went as far as to make a plan of what you wanted to eat each night. Between you and Atali, you were the planner. You liked things to make sense and liked them to be stable and constantly reliable. You hated the erraticness of people and impulsivity. You always tried to steer as far from it as possible.
By the time the speeches were finished, you’d had three drinks and were working on your fourth. The vibration of your phone brought your attention to it.
 MSG Javii: Chaton?
You rolled your eyes and sighed out a little louder than you intended. What attracted you to him in the first place was what was annoying you right now. His persistence. You sat in a nearby seat and stared at the text exchange and thought of what you wanted to reply. Five minutes passed with you not typing one word. The truth was you didn’t know what to say. You were that jumbled up. The stress of it all was making your head hurt. You rubbed your brow and began your message.
MSG: I need some time away.
 Instantly a message came back.
 MSG Javii: From me?
Bobbing your head from side to side, you tried to make a quick decision.
 MSG: From this—us.
MSG Javii: Chaton, say what you mean. You know I prefer directness. Do you mean from me?
 MSG: Yes.
A few minutes passed before he sent another message. You wondered if you’d hurt him. Part of you didn’t want to hurt him, but the other part wanted him to suffer and see what it was like to be without you. Maybe then he’d start appreciating what he had.
MSG: I just need to figure some things out.
MSG Javii: Are you breaking up with me, Chaton?
The name was killing you, and you were sure he knew it. Every time he called you “chaton,” it made your belly flutter.
MSG: I just need time and space, Javii.
MSG Javii: I love you. You know that, right? I love you more than anything.
MSG: If that were true, I’d be there right now instead of where I am. I have to go.
You closed your messages and sighed out again.
“Mm, I can easily read that expression, and if any man causes brow or forehead wrinkles, he isn’t the one.”
Your head snapped to your right to see an older woman sitting there. She wore a straw hat atop her long red hair that looked close to that of Lucille Ball’s. The hue of her hair complimented her bronze and gold complexion. Her makeup was expertly done, as was her purple painted nails that pinched the straw that was at the corner of her mouth, a mouth that was painted perfectly accentuating her cupid’s bow lips. She was gorgeous.
“Uh--,” you began as she continued.
“The only one who is worth it is the one who gives you cheek wrinkles and smile creases.”
You grinned to yourself and took a sip from your glass that was resting on the table between you.
“Trust me. I’ve dated plenty of men, ones who cause both, ones who cause one more than the other and ones who only cause one—the bad ones.” She motioned to the space between her eyebrows, symbolizing stress wrinkles from furrowing your brows.
“I have yet to meet one who only causes smile creases,” she finished.
You shrugged and looked glanced back to your phone before you put it on the table face down.
“Maybe that one doesn’t exist on this Earth,” you countered.
“A skeptic, I see. You’re one of those women who don’t believe in the one, right?”
After scoffing, you looked at her. “I don’t know what I believe. Once upon a time, I did then---things got complicated.”
The woman placed her drink down and nudged her fist underneath her chin, giving you her complete attention.
“Oh, complications are the joys of life, darling. Nothing is ever cut and dry or so simple and steady. I say go for the ride but make sure you hand on for the bumps.”
You contemplated her words. There was some logic there, but once she said nothing was simple or steady, you had to admit your heart skipped a beat. You hated when things weren’t simple. You took your glass again and finished its contents. At the same time, your eye found the man who’d caught you maybe an hour ago. You watched as he walked closer to where you were seated and caught another glimpse of his face before he passed you.
From beside you, you heard the woman whistle.
“I wouldn’t mind going for a ride with that one.”
Your laugh was loud and couldn’t be stopped. You shook your head at her, but she didn’t look one bit embarrassed or remorseful.
“It’s a cruse darling, a vacation. Now’s the time to live a little—or a lot,” she said, finishing with an exaggerated wink.
This woman was inadvertently suggesting you let your hoe flag fly for the duration of the cruise. She reminded you of your aunt Josephine from your father’s side. As a French woman, she definitely embodied the French lifestyle of only living once and to live life right the first time. You’d spent countless hours with her listening to her stories of her travels, boyfriends, escapades. You and Atali always loved to live vicariously through her. That was until Atali came of age and decided to live just like her.
You sat with this woman who introduced herself as Genevieve and listened to her stories of life and love. Usually, you hated speaking to strangers, but she didn’t feel like one. She felt like a kindred spirit, a much more carefree spirit but still kindred the same. You didn’t realize that two hours had almost passed with the two of you sipping cocktails and giggling. When you said your goodbyes, you wandered around the ship, taking in all it had to offer. You peeked in on activities that were already underway and scoped out other places you could disappear in.
You made it back to your room in time to shower, change, and put on a lite layer of makeup before you made it to dinner at one of the forty restaurants. Once you walked into the restaurant, the atmosphere screamed luxury though it was not opulently done. It still looked family-friendly, but it was done in a way that let you know that you were meant to feel important by the décor alone.
At the bottom of the long stairs, you quickly looked around, trying to find an empty table. When you’d zeroed in on one, you saw a hand waving you down—the hand of the same woman from before, Genevieve. Why not, you thought to yourself before you began to cross the dining area toward her. Within a few steps, you ran right into a body that felt like a brick wall. You could feel your body falling backward, but in the nick of time, a pair of strong, muscular arms wrapped around your back, holding you in place.
Tumblr media
If his face had been eluding you all day, it was not anymore. The eyes you stared into were blue enough that the sea you sailed would be envious. His lips were so red that an apple would want a rematch for bragging rights and his face so symmetrical that even the perfect line of symmetry didn’t seem perfect enough when next to him. The man was gorgeous. You watched his eyes roam your face as if he was in no rush, wanting to take in every detail. What felt like minutes was probably only seconds before he set you upright. As you were prepared to speak, he smiled, and the action had you feeling like you’d been hit in the head at the same time as your gut.
“Twice in one day. What’re the odds? Are you okay?”
 Rather than speaking, you nodded.
 “Are you sure?”
“Yes, thank you. I’m—I’m sorry,” you stuttered.
“Nah, forget about it. No harm, no foul.”
From behind him, you could see Genevie giving you a look that said she wanted to know what was being said and who he was.
“I uh—I was going that way,” you said, nodding your head to behind him.
“And me that way.” He nodded behind you. “Stay safe out there,” he uttered before he walked off in the direction you’d just come from, giving you the opportunity to walk to Genevieve.
The look on her face needed no words to along with it, but she still spoke.
“Is that the same snack from before?”
You nodded and nearly snorted out, hearing her use the word.
 “What’s his name?”
“No idea, but I feel like I’ve seen him somewhere before. I just—can’t place it.”
“I don’t know how. I’d never forget a face like that.”
She had a point; he had an unforgettable face, one that stayed with you and possibly could haunt your nights. You bet he got whatever he wanted and whoever he wanted. As dinner progressed, you had your choice of different appetizers, entrees, drinks, and desserts. If one wanted Scandinavian food, they could get it, or southern food it was within reach. As you ate, you listened to more of Genevieve’s stories. She told you about the men she’d dated, the things she’d seen in her years, and lessons she’d learned from those men. The moral you learned from her stories was love often, love hard, and love entirely because while you’d remember the pain, you’d remember the love more.
As you ate and listened to her, you couldn’t help but think of the reason you were on this cruise in the first place. You were not running to love but from it. If you were to listen to Genevieve, you should have stayed your ass in New York and gone to Javii. If you listened to her, you’d probably spend another year living in sin. By the end of dinner, you’d met three other women all within the same age range as you, but they all were in different times of their lives. One was newlywed, and on her honeymoon, the second married a year and expecting her first child and the third long married with three children.
It was an interesting look at alternate timelines for you. Any of them could have ended up being you if you’d only made different choices. Part of you wondered which one you wanted to be more, your natural self, or one of the three possibilities.
After dinner, you made your way to one of the theaters to watch the planned show for the night. It was a re-enactment of The Little Mermaid, and the audience was filled with little ones who clapped and cheered throughout. You were surprised at how well the staff performed. They could have easily been true broadway stars. A little more than halfway through the show, you found the stranger with the deep eyes across the room. He was sitting alone, just watching the show with a relaxed look on his face. He looked as if he were genuinely enjoying it. Your curiosity was piqued as to why he was sitting alone watching The Little Mermaid on a ship full of people and why he didn’t seem to be bothered to make acquaintances. Who came on a cruise alone? Once you thought it, you wanted to laugh at yourself. You were the one to come on a cruise alone.
As you were about to look away, his eyes found yours. At first, they looked empty as if he were looking right through you. Then after a few moments, there was a spark in them. You watched him raise his glass to you with a soft smile teasing his lips. Realizing you’d been caught looking, you curtly nodded back then looked to the stage to focus on the show.
Two in the morning. That was the time when you finally made it back to your room. Festivities were going on all around the ship. No one seemed as if they wanted to go back to their rooms. There was something for everyone. The little ones had endless activities, including a sleepover with their favorite Disney characters, where they were set to have plenty of fun for the night. There was a mixer set up like a rave on the opposite side of the ship for the adults. From the things you saw when you scoped it out, you were sure a few siblings were going to be conceived tonight.
As you scanned your bracelet and opened your door, you looked back to see the stranger again. He was looking directly down at you. You gave him a head salute and disappeared inside your room. After a quick shower, you found your way to your balcony to watch the waves roll by with a glass of wine. It was the perfect end to the night.
