On the left, Green Dragon! Adults are in the 20-80 foot (6-24 m) range. Green dragons are great at sweet talking, enjoy taking exceptional people into thier fold, have all sorts of wonderful emerald hues, and thier breath has a chlorine scent! Because it's chlorine gas, don't breathe too deep. Look, even the dragon god opposing them said that in some ways they're the most dragonlike of all dragons! Unfortunately that does include sweet talking and manipulation, and thier favorite targets to corrupt and/or devour are elves, so maybe be careful if you're an elf.
On the right, Quaggoth! 6 ft (1.8 m) tall, notably athletic, just get stronger as they wear down, and some can even use psychic powers to cast spells like mage hand and Enlarge/Reduce! They also have basically no fear. Forest dwelling creatures driven underground by elves, where they were enslaved by mindflayers and drow. Some have escaped, and all have 0 fucks left to give. Also maybe be careful if you're an elf, they remember they're supposed to be arboreal.
Actually come to think of it, maybe just be careful in general if you're an elf. One will be hate sex and the other considers you thier favorite kind of victim. This is just anti-elf poll I guess.

wow these four took a while! we got more npcs here with:
Korth Boomtail to the left
Delilah in the middle
Fawkes the wererat at the right
and Mr Green at the back
Mr Green being the head of a city's 'totally legitimate business practices', with Delilah as his wife and Korth and Fawkes being... associates. Now, from my notes I remember Mr Green being described as having black beady eyes but I couldn't for the life of me get them to look right, so I went with this 90s Rob Liefeld look with the tiny white eyes, like something out of those godawful Youngblood comics... except it works on a quaggoth, rather than a roided up guy wearing pouches. (also I spent hours hemming and hawing over Korth's patches and colouring, it was maddening and I could have gave him more elaborate clothing but i'll be damned if I was gonna cover up that work so open 'you wanna buy a watch' flasher jacket, it is)

Stepping through a mirror of travel to emerge in a distant location (Ned Dameron, from "Bazaar of the Bizarre -- The magic fortress: magical items for fantasy castles" by J Jasper Owens, Dragon 145, May 1989) This article also describes the improved mirror of travel, 14 other magic items, and 2 new spells useful for castle owners. This lady also owns a basin of the angel, which pours healing water and radiates magical protection, and a horn of war to summon 10-200 quaggoths to attack her foes.

Places in Waterdeep
According to this reddit comment, Gale’s tower is most likely in the Dock Ward on the corner of Sea Lion and Sail Street. Assuming Gale and Tav spend most of their time in Waterdeep either at home or at Blackstaff (well, depending on what your tav does for a living! I imagine mine works nearby), here are some possible locations for all your fanfic needs. I’m using this map and the descriptions it gives for the locations. This is not an exhaustive list–just the ones I thought might be the most useful to writers.
Tumblr media
- Near Gale’s Tower (Dock Ward) -
Taverns and Inns:
The Quaffing Quaggoth
Tavern. A favorite among sailors, merchants, and young nobles, this dwarven owned and operated establishment is known for its own specialty brew – the Quaggoth, a thick house-brewed stout mixed with a shot of a house secret liquor.
The Sailors' Own
Tavern. The place is low-beamed and crowded, with weary sailors slumped on benches playing at board games, cards, or merely getting thoroughly drunk. This place is just what its name implies. It belongs to the sailors, and they don't really want anyone else here. The proprietor is Guthlakh 'Hands' Imyiir. (so, maybe not likely for them to frequent this one, but who knows!)
The Pickled Fisherman
Tavern
The Soaring Pegasus
Tavern
Bard inn
A cozy inn owned by a family of past adventurers, it appears to have been fixed up recently. Most of its visitors are sailors, but it has been known to house meetings between gangs in order to keep the peace. In the basement is a hidden underground fighting ring.
The Angry Coxswain
The tavern contains a one-way portal connecting with a prison cell in the slave market in the Mulhorandi city of Skuld.
The Yawning Portal
Inn. Built in 1306 DR on the ruins of Halaster Blackcloak's old tower, the Yawning Portal gained most of its renown for being the primary open route to the Undermountain. The Portal's innkeeper, Durnan, is a former adventurer of great power and renown.
The Gray Griffon
Tavern
Darth's Dolphyntyde
Tavern
Selune's Smile
Tavern
Azuth's Mug
Tavern
The Rearing Hippocampus
Inn. Probably the classiest inn in Dock Ward. Favored by many caravan masters and merchants who want a good, secure place to sleep, and regular visitors to the city who have business near the harbor.
The Splintered Stair
Inn. The entry hall of this room rises up three floors, overlooked by interior balconies linked by elegantly spiraling stairs.
The Blackstar Inn
This dignified, even haughty inn is like a fortress on the outside, with barred windows, stone walls, and a slate roof. Its lobby has two armed guards, and the four hostlers in the locked stables are also armed. Fees are high, but in return, guests get almost soundproof rooms. Each room has a hip-bath, a double bed, water and wine provided for drinking and various pamphlets and chapbooks provided for light reading. Each room also has its own fireplace, albeit with a miserly supply of firewood, and the patrons tend to keep to themselves. A good place to get a long soundsleep. Asiyra Boldwinter is the proprietress of this inn. Her manner is one of uppercrust, noble dignity.
The Empty Keg
The Empty Keg is a rowdy beer-hall. Later at night, it sees visits from workers from Mother Salinka's next door to reinvigorate business there.
The Red-Eyed Owl
This is the closest thing Waterdeep has to a comfortable, unimpressive, welcoming gathering place for the neighborhood. It is the kind of place where friends will come in and hail each other across the room. The food and drink are pleasant, if unspectacular, and you'll be allowed to sit in peace. It is a rambling old wooden building that looks as if it's about to fall into the street. Balarg 'Twofists' Dathen, a man with long, red hair, owns and runs the tavern.
The Sleepy Sylph
Tavern. Locals in the neighborhood come here for a single drink, to enjoy the music and to watch the waitresses (wearing diaphanous robe), and then go to the Owl, just steps away to eat and drink at about a third the price. The owner is Callanter Rollingshoulder, a tall man dressed in dark silken robes with a magnificent mustache.
The Bloody Fist
Tavern. Bullies and angry people come here to pick fights, and a room upstairs is retained for a succession of novice priests of Tempus who dress broken bones and perform minor healing magics in return for donations to the war god. Members of the Bull Elk Tribe can usually be found drinking here. Proprietor: Uglukh Vorl, a half-orc.
The Sleeping Snake
Tavern. This rowdy place is roughly furnished in hastily mended furniture. Members of the Black Boar Tribe can usually be found drinking here.
Festhalls and Entertainment:
From the Forgotten Realms wiki: “A festhall was an establishment combining the services of brothels, casinos, and private clubs. Festhalls provided a variety of adult-themed leisure activities and entertainment, including sex work, gambling, day spas, dining, exotic dancing, companionship, role-play, and other specialized interests.”
The Mermaid's Arms
Festhall. Elegant dining lounges, in which one dines or just drinks with an attractive host or hostess (or alone). Increasingly, the Arms is being used by single gentlefolk for a night of love. In other words, patrons are going there to meet each other, not to hire a host or hostess for the night. The Arms is large, well-lit, always busy, and can be quite expensive.
The Hanging Lantern
Festhall. The Lantern, an escort service known for the stunning beauty of its workers, and for the skill of its matchmakers, is famous up and down the Sword Coast.
Blushing Nymph
Festhall. The long stair links the oubliette of the Blushing Nymph festhall with Undermountain's first level.
Mother Salinka's House of Pleasures
This is a dingy low-coin festhall owned by halflings and frequented by those who are there for a 'brief visit', or can't afford or are turned away from the Yawning Portal.
Three Pearls Nightclub
Festhall. Pearls, as it is called, is a popular evening destination for Waterdhavians, offering stand-up comics, trained animal acts, illusionists' recitals, bards, orators, and exotic dancing. It has a low ceiling and is usually hot and smoky. The manager, Xandos Waeverym, is known as 'the Dandy'.
Seven Masks Theater
The theater caters to a lower-class clientele, and ship captains and sailors are admitted for free. The owner of the theater is a burly and jovial Shou man with a braided goatee named Rongquan Mystere.
The Purple Palace
Festhall. This is the closest thing Waterdeep has to a Calishite silks-boudoir. Its lavender silk draperies and gauzy hangings are heavily perfumed. Everything is cushions, soft carpets, music, and purple-tinted, spiced wine. Companionship is expensive and very good.
The Smiling Succubus
Festhall. Not exactly the pride of Wharf Street, but one of its most popular destinations.
Businesses and Shopping:
Whistling Blades
Business. Weapons.
The Fishscale Smithy
Adventuring gear
Talnu's Ropeworks
Adventuring gear
The Old Xoblob Shop
This curiosity shop is filled with lots of battle trophies and souvenirs from Undermountain. Worth a look to see the stuffed beholder for which the shop is named. The shopkeeper is a deep gnome.
House of Pride Perfumes
Business. The House of Pride is crammed with a forest of glass bottles of all sizes, shapes, and hues. It is protected by a special enchantment that prevents glass from breaking. The shop is run by two sisters and is guarded by trained hunting dogs.
Khostal Hannass, Fine Nuts
Business. Food.
Felhaur's Fine Fish

House of Two Hands
Monastery. Order of the Even-Handed.
Harborwatch Tower
City building
The Griffon
The walking statue called the Griffon is shaped like the beast for which it is named. Though it stands on all four legs, its back is fully twenty feet off the ground, making it a mount fit for a storm giant. Although it has shown itself to be capable of flight, with the granite feathers of its wings spreading like a bird's, the Griffon now merely stands in a regal pose near Peaktop Aerie atop Mount Waterdeep, looking to the southeast over the Dock Ward. Newcomers sometimes assume it to be a monument to Waterdeep's Griffon Cavalry, but Waterdavians know better.
Peaktop Aerie
City building
Castle Waterdeep
Thick-walled stronghold that broods over Castle Ward from the flanks of Mount Waterdeep. Pennants and banners are often hung and flown from its battlements to signal the arrival of diplomats or the commencement of ceremonies.
Starry Cradles orphanage
The Starry Cradles orphanage is a Dock Ward orphanage run by Matron Griselda Hoppletun, a halfling care-taker, and funded by the House of the Moon and the Selûnite clergy thereof.
- Near Blackstaff Tower (Castle Ward) -
Taverns and Inns:
Sapphire House
Expensive rooming house on Swords Street. The inn is a five-story building.
Tavern of the Flagon Dragon
Tavern. Three Stories high, stone dragons at the base of the walls are all gouting fire, two dragon helmed guards at the door. Caters more to the less-than-noble class.
The Singing Sword
Tavern. Three floors of busy diners enjoy one of the largest menus in Waterdeep. They are entertained by the high-voiced ballads of the wondrous magical blade for which the tavern is named. Gothmorgan Ilibuld, the proprietor, is a polite host.
Wyrmbones Inn
Inn
The Pampered Traveler
Inn. This inn stands like an exotic castle. There is inside a library filled with books and a reading table with a glass top, under which can be seen a map of the known Realms as far west as the Moonshaes, as far east as Thay, and as far south as the Shaar. All in all, a quietly luxurious place to stay. This is undoubtedly the wealthy scholar's choice of hostel. The inn is run by Brathan Zilmer, guildmaster of the Fellowship of Innkeepers.
Dauntlyn's Doors
Luxury Inn
The Elfstone Tavern
Tavern. This old, dimly lit tavern caters to elves. By night, dancing lights spells bathe the place in soft, floating, blue motes of light. Gentle harp, pipe, flute, and choral music is performed and service is fast and graceful. Dwarves and half-orcs will be driven away; humans and halflings are tolerated in small parties; half-elves are just accepted. Yaereene Ilbaereth is the tavern's proprietress.
The Blue Jack
Tavern. The tavern specializes in low prices and fast service, and it's a success. Immithar the Glove, the tavern's proprietor, is quick with a joke or to mimic the speech of other.
The Jade Jug
Inn. Waterdeep's plushest inn. Guests are attended by a personal servant for the duration of their stay and their every need is attended to. The charming, beautiful, one-armed hostess is Amaratha Ruendarr. She notices every detail.
The Dragon's Head Tavern
Tavern. This modest place is aimed at those who like to sit quietly and chat over their drinks. The proprietor is Vorn Laskadarr.
The Asp's Strike
Tavern
Festhalls and Entertainment:
Jhural's Dance
Festhall
Silavene's
Festhall
The Smiling Siren
Festhall. Nightclub & Theater. Home to a company of popular local actors who can perform everything from rowdy comedy to high tragedy. Nobles often hire the place for an evening for exclusive performances. The Siren is also home to traveling troupes of vaudeville jugglers, comedians, and nearly nude dancers or burlesque dancers. Before and between performances, the place is used for drinking and dancing to live music, sometimes with show dancers on the stage. The mage Perendel Wintamer runs this nightclub.
Lightsinger Theater
Business. Entertainers.
Mother Tathlorn's House of Pleasure
Festhall. Entertainers. The most famous house of pleasure in Waterdeep is a large, five-floored building with two additional levels of dungeons below ground. Mother Tathlorn's has on staff several priests of Sune. The most popular service performed at Mother Tathlorn's is massage and bathing, but all of this luxury and pleasure doesn't come cheaply.

The tunnel continuously resounds with music due to an ongoing concert known as the Neverending String of Pearls that is performed by bardic students from New Olamn in a small alcove in the tunnel.
Syndra Wands' Tower
Wizard's domicile.
The Lady Dreaming
One of the eight enormous statues called the Walking Statues of Waterdeep, scattered throughout Waterdeep to defend the city in times of great peril. This statue has the appearance of a titanic sculpture of a noble lady asleep in her garden.
The Great Drunkard
One of the eight enormous statues called the Walking Statues of Waterdeep, scattered throughout Waterdeep to defend the city in times of great peril. The unconscious pose of the statue and the tavern in its lap made the name of the Great Drunkard a natural fit.
Duir's Alley
This busy, winding passage is often the scene of spell demonstrations and practice, as patrons or staff spill out of the rear of the Elfstone Tavern and unleash magic down the alley.
Cat Alley
Recently, a masked, rapier-wielding, quietly chuckling assailant has made this a dangerous place for women after dark.
The God Catcher
One of the eight enormous statues called the Walking Statues of Waterdeep, scattered throughout Waterdeep to defend the city in times of great peril. This is perhaps the most famous walking statue in the city, thanks to its dramatic pose : a well-muscled but impassive male human with a sphere of stone floating above its right hand raised skyward.

My current Faerun campaign characters (plus Morpho who's from Pathfinder) - more details under the cut >:)
Morpho is a freed slave of Absolom, who was 'contracted' as a performing entertainer for the past 10 years. Since slavery was outlawed in Absolom they managed to move to a small town called 'Otari' where they met a band of budding young adventurers and accompanied them on their quest to disable the 'Gauntlight'.
Halion, taking leave from his order after an argument, was caught up in a failed attempt to rob the tollhouse within Baldur's Gate. The City of Elturel has just 'fallen', and Baldur's Gate is being swammed with refugees. After being wrongly accused of coercing with the criminals he is now acting as a temporary Flaming Fist, helping them uncover the resurgence in crime committed under the name of the 'Dead Three', and doing his best to help those fleeing the Holy lands of Elturgard.
Null is a carefree wanderer who works for the highest bidder. After the party of nobles they were commissioned to escort into 'Undermountain', were wiped out on the second floor, they were picked up by a second group, confused by their seemingly blase nature to it all. Null is polite and friendly, but sometimes says the most macabre things out of nowhere...
Derendil is an elven prince from the surface. After being cursed by a witch to take the appearance of a quaggoth, he was cast down into the underdark and captured by drow.. While the rest of the party have never heard of his kingdom, nor can he remember much about his life before he was imprisoned, he is determined to get to the surface as soon as possible...hopefully before the demogorgan can do so...

Did a line up of my Out of the Abyss 2 NPCs. I am running two versions of the module so…there will be some overlapping characters. But I tried to make them different for both games as they are different groups.
Left to Right:
Asha Vandree: ‘Not kidnapped’ Lolth Priestess
Jorlan Duskryn: A scarred Drow Fighter
Sarith Kzekarit: Drow ranger accused of murdering his old party.
Buppido: Cunning little Derro (might be an assassin)
Eldeth Feldrun: A lost shield dwarf fighter
Jimjar: A dashing rogue with a gambling problem.
Stool: A very curious baby myconid
Topsy and Turvy: Wererat Twins who got turn this way because Turvy isn’t a great sorcerer. Topsy a smart thief steals stuff to help her brother.
Ront: An Orc Barbarian who fell down a hold into the Underdark after fleeing a battle like coward.
Prince Derendil: A Quaggoth who believes he is a cursed Elven Prince. Only speaks Elvish
(I know there’s another official NPC Shuushar but…he doesn’t do much so he didn’t make the long term lineup.)

Characters of the Grey Warriors: ‘A Light in the Dark’ Part II of a completed 'Out of the Abyss’ campaign story Kazimir Oussnddare - tiefling wizard Fargas Rumblefoot - halfling rogue Fraeya - drow rogue Sarith Kzekarit - drow warrior Zelyra Erenaeth - half elf druid Nine - half elf ranger and  Prince Derendil - quaggoth barbarian/fighter
The Grey Warriors have finally left the duergar occupied city of Gracklstugh and set course for Neverlight Grove, but every which way the group turns, they find further turmoil in the Underdark. The horror and destruction that began in the kuo-toa village of Sloobludop is rapidly spreading far, far beyond it.
Stonespeaker Hgraam’s grim warning remains fixed in their heads:
“The rock itself cries with pain and horror, and a madness creeps from the blackest depths. Pay heed to the signs around you. A cave with two faces. Rock devoured, and the land overgrown. The pebble believes itself flesh. The earth rejects its wards, and the tunnels shake with fury. By these portents, you shall know of evil’s presence and of evil’s face. This is what the stones tell me.”
More than ever, the lands below need a light in the dark. to read click on the following link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/61549729/chapters/157353130

Shops & Activities in Menzoberranzan's districts:
THE BRAERYN:
The Wan Hag
Information Broker
During the Time of Troubles era and the beginning of the War of the Spider Queen, an information broker named Smylla Nathos operated in the Braeryn. A human, she captured the attention of a drow slaver aid on the surface world and returned to Menzoberranzan as something more than a slave and less than an honored guest of House Faen Tlabbar. For a time, she used her skill as a sorcerer and diviner-as well as her drow like poise, charm, and ruthlessness to serve as an advisor to Matron Ghenni'tiroth. But when she fell ill, and healing magic failed to offer remedy, her sickness was viewed as a curse inflicted by Lolth.
Escaping assassination by her former benefactors, Smylla fled to the Braeryn to eke out a new life among the dregs of drow society. Although her illness left her withered and weak, the Wan Hag, as she came to be known, employed her eldritch talents to cobble together a formidable web of informants and spies. However, by the beginning of the War of the Spider Queen, her illness had robbed her even of her divination talents, and she was soon killed by Ryld Argith.
Quaggoth Drool
Tavern
The Stench streets is notorious for its déclassé “drinking pits" those crude establishments where drow of every station go to forget about caste and rank for a few hours, guzzle raw spirits, and watch lesser creatures slaughter one another in bloody contests. One such place is the Quaggoth Drool. As is common inn such pits, revelers must surrender all weapons when they enter the tavern. Then they can get as drunk as they want, shout, argue, talk, and have a good fight. Priestesses often use magic to eavesdrop in such ruinous places, listening for treachery, plans for attacks on houses, or other business being discussed. The entertainment focuses on the sunken arena at the center of the common room where patrons wager heavily on brutal and often lethal pit matches.
DUTHCLOIM:
The Cathlyre
Exotic Bird Aviary
Anchored to a sweeping battlement of stalactites along the Clawrift's easternmost perimeter is a spectacular latticework enclosure crafted of basalt support beams and a mesh of calcified webbing. Within the free flight structure, soar countless types of avians from the World Above, including many exotic species (among them the namesake peacock-like cathlyre). From the large shop, perched along the ledge of the Clawrift, the birds are sold as pets, live targets, or roasted alive before the customer's eyes-a hot meal seasoned and done to order.
Rhauvais' Arms
Munitions Supplier
Proprietor Rhauvais del'Ygana, a tall and strong female drow, specializes in discreet manufacture and sale of exotic, high-quality ranged weapons and ammunition for her noble clientele. Specialty armaments of her design include “the spinagon” (a repeating hand crossbow), "the kocrachon” (a hovering, envenomed, dart-like projectile that strikes upona triggered condition), and "the hamatula” (a basilisk-hide bandolier that magically recalls any dagger thrown from its pockets); all are named after devils of the Nine Hells.
The Bazaar
The ever-changing, never-sleeping Bazaar is the commercial heart of Menzoberranzan. This circle of bare bedrock about 750 feet in diameter is a crowded, untidy labyrinth of stalls and hagglers. The ongoing trade fair attracts merchants and goods from all over Faerûn, and the drow go there to buy and sell almost everything imaginable.
Warriors training at the Academy patrol the Bazaar heavily. The patrols are performed to keep a lid on the violence, but they do not interfere with haggling, arguments, or fraudulent dealing. The merchants suffer the patrols to keep the house nobles in line. The Ruling Council maintains the patrols to prevent giving the merchants a reason to hire large numbers of guards that could grow into private armies.
By decree of the Ruling Council, the Bazaar contains no permanent structures. No stall can remain in one spot longer than 66 days. The law is intended to keep the Bazaar from dwindling away aspermanent buildings replace the stalls. Also, the constant shuffling forces buyers to tour the Bazaar, searching for favored stalls or merchants.
Fights and covert sabotage are common since vendors jostle for more space for their booths or try to avoid being relegated to a bad location. While merchants are not allowed to openly sell their space at the Bazaar, wise merchants arrange to trade spots with other established vendors for favors.
Merchants of all races and lands are welcome in the Bazaar, and shoppers can get almost anything they desire in its curtained booths and stalls, given enough patience and money. The stalls carry goods and services that range from the mundane to the wondrous. Tailors, potters, and crafters of every stripe can be found in the twisting paths of the Bazaar. Surgeons, potions, and herbal medicines can also be found there by those who want to avoid seeking healing from the priestesses of Lolth. Some vendors even sell wines, cheeses, and other exotics from the surface lands, and one is able to send and receive messages to and from the world above.
Living commodities can also be purchased in the Bazaar, and many drow go there to hire mercenaries and outlander wizards. While slaves can be bought there, most purchasers looking for such goods go to the Braeryn to fill those needs.
Bhaelundryn's Bestiary
Underdark Hostler
Heavily guarded by a dozen drow guards and gnoll overseers, this stall provides pack lizards and riding-lizard mounts, including the harnesses, goads, leadlines, and carrying frames for the creatures. VhurnBhaelundryn, an old, fat, affable, and heavilyscarred drow warrior, always has one of each sort oflizard harnessed and ready, but the cost is astronomical The fee does include immediate help from the overseers, however, in delaying pursuit, patrols, and anything up to angry high priestesses. In addition tobeasts, Vhurn sells "underdark packs" for adventur-ing in the Underdark and is knowledgeable about places to buy other gear and weapons.
Dhode's Fine Piwafwis
Tailor and Clothier
Dhode Lu’orz is a tailor who sells all manner of clothing cut in drow fashions, but he specializes in making piwafwis. He staffs this stall with six apprentices who he treats as little more than slaves. Dhode has a number of contacts in Sorcere willing to add enchantments to a piwafwi if the price is right.
Quild's Mobile Parlor
Information Broker
This stall is little more than a bench and a cart full of cheap trinkets. Quild, a wiry, muscled male drow, moves his cart and bench regularly to follow shifts in traffic around the Bazaar. He engages non-drow and other males with nonstop chatter while he works but is quiet and submissive before female drow. Quild is an excellent source for rumors and gossip, and he can give direction to most locales in and around the city. Of course, generous tips greatly enhance the accuracy of the information.
Sense of Sensuous Scents
Perfumery
The mixture of scents wafting on the light breeze of Menzoberranzan ensures that shoppers smell this stall long before they see it. Rauva Zoldyth, a female drow, sells a wide variety of incense, from bricks that burn in braziers to sticks that smolder slowly. She also sells oils and candles, most of which are treated to burn with a low eldritch-colored flame that won't hurt sensitive drow eyes. Rauva notes which priestesses buy what incense and how much, and discreetly sells this information to those who might be interested in knowing what houses are preparing certain rituals.
Shimmerdark's Decanter
Vintner & Alchemist
Named for its handsome, charming (and smart-mouthed) young drow proprietor, this stall stocks rare and fine potables from all over the Realms. Daelein Shimmerdark carries a wide selection, from fortified wines of the Sword Coast to hard liquors made by the dwarves. Daelein offers love potions and sleep poison to rich and discreet shoppers. For a small fee,he will also provide directions on the best places to sell stolen goods.
Whispers in the Dark
Courier
A human wizard named Fethlorn Kelapanch set up shop in the Bazaar late in the Spellplague era, specializing in delivering messages around the city. Young drow commoners, especially orphans, camp outside his stall, waiting for a chance to run a message and make a few coins. Fethlorn also has connections with many caravan masters and can arrange for messages to be delivered to far-off locations in the Underdark or even to the surface. He can also arrange for messengers to run the missive directly, but this is ruinously expensive. A number of spells and rituals for magical communication are at his disposal, allowing him to contact virtually anyone in Faerûn, including in the World Above.
EASTMYR:
Battered Beholder
Arms and Hardware
The inside of this weapons shop is almost as battered as the beholder (said to be Many Eyes) on the sign at the store front. The inventory varies widely from day to day.and the shop fences goods with no questions asked. A male dwarf named Olask Dhauluin runs the Beholder. Olask came to Menzoberranzan shortly after the War of the Spider Queen and remains there throughout the Spellplague era, which is a good indicator of his caution and deviousness. Olask lives in the floors above the shop, using monsters to guard it during non-business hours, when they are allowed to roam freely.
Calask's Hands
Hairstylist
This hair salon is named for the male human who founded the business during the Sable Years, Myrlyth Calask. His shop survived him, passing to a male drow commoner named Filraen after the War of the Spider Queen. The clientele claims that Filraen's delicate drow fingers are much better than Calask's, but Filraen keeps the name because of its novelty, which attracts customers. Filraen is secretly a spy for Bregan D'aerthe. He relays messages to other agents and reports on what he overhears. He never takes any action that could expose his cover.
Darkled Depths
Tavern
Located across from the abandoned House Kenaf incompound is the Darkled Depths, one of the most popular taverns in the city. The depth is a higher-class establishment than the drinking pits, though it does admit non-drow. It is renowned for its glowing drinks made from phosphorescent lichen and a wide variety of stuffed mushrooms. The tavern fills four floors carved from the interior of a stalagmite. One wide winding stair connects the floors, but several open locations allow drow to levitate from one floor to another. In addition to music and singing, the depths' features shadow plays performed on an illuminated canvas. The owner is a commoner drow female named Kialara, who oversees an almostentirely male staff.
Dylchanta's Furfeathers
Massage House
The best massage house in Eastmyr, Dylchanta's Furfeathers regularly hosts massage parties for large groups. The parlor is run by Dylchanta, a female drow commoner, who is assisted by a staff of a dozen masseuses evenly split between genders. Dylchantahas no aspirations for nobility, only for the wealth as successful business can bring and the influence that wealth can buy. Some in Eastmyr whisper that she ensures that Furfeathers remains the only good massage house in Eastmyr through threats and violence, but nothing has ever been proven. Her principal clients are members of House Hunzrin, but on any given day, members of any of the lesser houses and common families can be found there.
Narbondel's Shadow
Rooming House
Narbondel's Shadow is one of the two surviving rooming houses that cater to non-drow visitors in the city. Narbondel's Shadow is very expensive, but the service is excellent. Rates include all meals, basic drink, stabling, and a private room with a magical light source. A human adventurer named Morl founded the rooming house shortly before the Time of Troubles. He left the place to his son, but in the late Spellplague era, it is run by a halfling named Dalfred Noakes.
Dalfred had a violent encounter with a young Hunzrin noble, which left him scarred and without his left ear. He has never forgotten or forgiven the noble. To this day, he makes full use the rooming house's prime location overlooking the Clawrift, and a connected small cave system that does not join up with Dark Dominion, to smuggle goods and hide people fleeing angry drow nobles. Dalfred also has contacts throughout Eastmyr and Braeryn for clients looking to discreetly hire or purchase needed magic, healing, weapons, and other gear. He plays a dangerous game that will likely get him killed in the near future.
NARBONDELLYN:
Red Tears
Cartel of Gem-Cutters & Moneylenders
Red Tears is a secretive consortium of lesser merchants that have banded together against the most conspicuous and haughty merchant houses of Menzoberranzan. This cartel of “dealers in the shadows”was formed in the Year of the Vitriolic Sage (1047DR) by a sardonic one-eyed drow known as Farseeing Phurn. Phurn is credited by those in the know for fomenting the bitter rivalry between prominent gem-cutting Houses Belek'tyr and Shadalun-a feud that has resulted in countless assassinations and significant loss of profits over the decades. Today, Red Tears is an expansive criminal organization with a coterie of smugglers, fences, racketeers, thugs, and cut throats operating throughout much of the city. Phurn governs his illicit empire from his compound in central Narbondellyn, carved from the ruins of House Tuin'Tarl. The organization takes its name from a rare teardrop-shaped gemstone of unusually-vivid, blood-crimson hue in Phurn's possession.
Brothers Jaszarr
Perfumers
Narbondellyn is home to the wealthiest (and most expensive) perfumers in the city. In the crowded, damp underground, perfuming is an art born of necessity. The best drow scents mingle with less desirable smells to mute everything into a pleasurable background. The brothers Dhellorn and Dirziir Jaszarr are together regarded as the finest purveyors of perfume in the city. Sold only to the finest drow of high society, their scents are woven with magical compulsions that make them more than simple cosmetics. In the right hands, such a perfume is the key to power and influence-two of every drow's favorite things. Unknown to all but a discreet clientele, the talents of the brothers Jaszarr extend to the crafting of toxic potions and ointments as well. For a hefty sum, these poisons-often seamlessly blended into their exotic perfumes-can cripple or slay a rival with little chance of detection.
Feathered Masqueax
Theater and Festhall
Unlike most playhouses in the city, which stage low-brow comedies, the Feathered Masqueax prides itself on hosting only innovative, well-acted dramas. Mostastonishing for revelers in attendance is the fact that many of the actors in the troupe are, in fact, undead; Their performances flawless and eerily lifelike. At show's end, privileged clientele are welcomed back-stage to enjoy food, libations, and the company of performers they fancy.
The owner and proprietor of the theatre company is an enigmatic male drow named Phaless. Nearly seven feet tall and always shrouded in a dark, blood-splattered robe resembling a funeral shroud, Phaless strikes an imposing figure. A tiny animated skeleton pendant pinned to his robe reveals to those in the know that the drow is a deathsinger, a rare bardic practitioner renowned for songs of dark glory and necromancy.
Black Sapphire Bath
Public Bathhouse
One of a dozen public baths scattered about the city, the Black Sapphire Bath is primarily a gathering place for males seeking to rid themselves of a day's sweat and grime, not to mention a place to socialize and relax in leisurely comfort away from the over-bearing presence of females. Patrons can be bathed by servants or left alone as they wish. Many fires keep the octagonal pools warm, its steaming mineral water scented with a choice of fragrances. Although not a festhall, there are no rules against guests enjoying more amorous activities with each other or with the bathing staff if additional coin is forthcoming.
WEST WALL:
Elstearn's Escorts
Hireling Agency
As one of the few businesses that has flourished in West Wall, Elstearn's Escorts provides carte-blanch services of intelligent, well-groomed, and attractive drow of either gender to its discerning clientele. Although some clients avail themselves of the agency for simple carnal pleasures, the escort service's pool of diverse hirelings has a wide variety of skillsets useful to Menzoberranyr social climbers. Many are hired as well-spoken and charismatic escorts for social functions; others as guides and interpreters of outlanders visiting the city. Some even seek out Elstearn's Escorts for well-trained bodyguards when business takes them to dangerous parts of the city or for quick excursions into the surrounding Underdark.
Xeva's Den
Gaming Pavilion & Tavern
The common room of this drinking establishment offers its discerning patrons a quiet place to enjoy a relaxing game of sava, table dice (backgammon), or oldmen's bones (pick-up sticks). Gamers looking to make wagers can do so in Xeva's private rooms. Elderboy Aumon Baenre is a frequent guest at Xeva's, sometimes gambling away hundreds of platinum in an evening.

The 5e character I've been wanting to play for like two years now is a half-hobgoblin bladesinger who murdered his drow father/master after weakening him with poison. Even in his weakened state, his father was able to nearly kill him and left him badly disfigured. His spell focus is the broken sword he slew his father with, which has a spectral blade that extends from it when he uses his sword cantrips.
His name is Ban Resh Adin Ammurath Angal Gamoramah Prata Sanuk Sarthakanuvin Am Adin Jumayah Angal Dhiyava Pratak Biashal (in a Quaggoth dialect meaning "Fifth Omen Whose Visage is Made Vermillion with the Blood of Gods and Whose Hair is Made White with the Ash of their Bones"), a name given to him after inciting an insurrection against his Drow oppressors and putting every man, woman, rothé and spider to the sword and leaving their children to the mercy of the Underdark.
Nigh a century later he simply goes by the name Ban Resh. He spends his days tending to his tobacco garden and can often be seen with his long brass and cherrywood pipe in his mouth while he tends to his apiary. He enjoys the weak mead that he produces for himself and lives under a large boulder suspended between two hills. He has not shaved or cut his hair in decades, has nearly zero muscle mass beneath his tattered old robes and has completely renounced the sword. You know, until it's time to save the world or whatever dumb bullshit the campaign I end up using him in entails. Still, I imagine he avoids violence whenever possible and will not draw his broken blade unless the lives of others are on the line.

"Captured by the drow! You wouldn't wish this fate upon anyone, yet here you are—locked in a dark cave, the cold, heavy weight of metal tight around your throat and wrists. You are not alone. Other prisoners are trapped in here with you, in an underground outpost far from the light of the sun."
Our models of the prisoners. This is a long post, so they'll be under the cut!
There will be spoilers for this module!
We have versions as prisoners and normal versions. Tokens available upon request but will not be included in this initial post due to how many images there are.
Old/outdated versions of the models available upon request (or if I feel like reblogging them in later) since this is already a long post.
Buppido- Talkative and cunning derro
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Prince Derendil- Quaggoth who claims to be a cursed elf prince
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Eldeth Feldrun- Shield dwarf scout from Gauntlgrym
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jimjar- Deep gnome with a gambling problem
I rolled items for the NPCs, Jimjar ended up starting with the metal bar club.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ront- Orc bully
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sarith Kzekarit- Drow accused of murder
Sarith here has multiple models that show the progression of the spore infection, (hey, I did say there'd be spoilers!) ending in a model of him as a spore servant. You'll also notice my stylization of elves... I like how pathfinder gives them funky eyes, and I stole it to make D&D elves look cooler.
Ideally, I'll switch out the tokens between chapters/sessions and pretend nothing has changed until the later stages where it's very obvious something is wrong with him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Shuushar the Awakened- Kuo-toa hermit and mystic
Shuushar has a weapon, but he doesn't use it for combat. It's more of a utility tool for him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Stool- Myconid sprout
I made it a lot different from its art so that it has hands to hold items with. Stool is the only one who didn't receive a new model after the face customizer dropped, because, well... it wouldn't have benefitted much.
Myconid base is from here!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Topsy and Turvy- Deep gnome wererat twins
I love face customizer because I can give them slightly rat-like features without making it too obvious.
Also, Turvy's starting item was the flint dagger.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Honestly, I forgot to make wererat models for these two until making this post. The rodent head wasn't in the face customizer when it first released, so I figured I'd do it later... and then I forgot! So I whipped some up real quick. I tried to go for that look of animal eyes gleaming in the darkness.
