queer and pleasant
QUEER AND PLEASANT, 2021 in collaboration with artist Gegê Schall
This project started with an assessment queers do too often: nowhere could we find images that represented us. Most particularly our ways of relating to each other and to ourselves in a sexual context. We started doodling and quickly realized it was never just about sex, or furthermore that sex is never just about a number of positions, insertions or orgasms that qualifies an act as sex. It was about tenderness, vulnerability, loving, care, nurturing, and more. It’s also never separated from who we are and what’s our story. This is something we were insistent on; giving each of the people we drew an intricate context and to not just place a queer body in the middle of a blank page for the sake of it. We hope you find in these illustrations something precious. Our plan is to make more and more and eventually publish a book. If you want to keep informed on how this is going, follow us on our social media where we will be posting new illustrations and updates on the book.

THE QUEER AND PLEASANT COLOURING BOOK, 2022
In this Queer And Pleasant Coloring Book™ you will find a collection of 5 queer and pleasant erotic illustrations to color, made by artists I. Milan Cail and Gegê Schall. They focus on the sexual experiences in the day-to-day life of characters inspired by trans and queer pop culture icons. These hot and tender gestures are situated in beautifully crafted spaces that will tell you more about each individual represented - and provide YOU with many details to color! Moreover, you will also find prints of the original 5 colored pieces of art so you can have them for yourself anywhere and everywhere you'd like! Plus: the written backstory of each piece, so you get an insight of what exactly you're looking at! We invite you to take a look at this collection yourself and hope you have as much fun diving into the deep pleasures of coloring as much as we had fun making it!

This does come with the caveat that I can't quite remember if the characters in How to Find a Princess, Funeral Songs for Dying Girls, and Chain-Gang All-Stars identity specifically as lesbians or not, but they are all sapphic. Full titles under the cut!
EDIT: Apparently Alice Walker is a big proponent of a famous antisemitic conspiracy theorist, David Icke, so be aware of that when considering The Color Purple
Happy Lesbian Visibility Week! 📚📖🏳️‍🌈
Hijab Butch Blues by Lamya H
In the Dream House by Carmen Maria Machado

"The stories are all remarkably similar. They all seem to describe a person, and not an actual god. They're all tricksters - you never get what you expect from them. And, they are always attended by owls."― Natasha Pulley, The Lost Future of Pepperharrow
Recently reread this and annotated it, which was a lot of fun. Keita Mori is still such a fun character to read about, I had to do a mock cover.

Edward Gorey coloring page
Some number of years back, I was tasked with creating a piece for a queer-themed coloring book. I chose to do an illustration of Edward Gorey, who as far as I know never expressed a definitive identity, but who definitely vibed as queer, asexual, and aromantic. (Also, like, deeply neurodivergent, but that's a subject for some other coloring book somewhere.)
Anyhow, I realized recently that I never actually shared the piece on tumblr, so here you go. It doubles as a seek-and-find, so see if you can spot all the Gorey references!

June always brings a deluge of recommendations of LGBTQ books, but often this coverage is very white. In this list, I want to highlight some of the Black authors writing swoonworthy adult F/F romance novels.

So, this discourse is the main character moment of twitter right now...
Tumblr media
And I have thoughts. First of all, the rise of anti-sex discourse in media is firmly based in white supremacist puritanical bullshit. The Hays Code was all about enforcing heteronormative lily-white "wholesome". LGBTQ folk and people of color, and women's pleasure(!) ALWAYS were disproportionately struck with harsher ratings. Second, film/tv/streaming has actually trended towards less sexuality recently? To the detriment of the quality of media that does center it, IMO (or why 50 Shades & 365 were oddly popular, despite being trash)....
Third, and thankfully, even more recently, I'm seeing the turn back towards sexuality in narratives but handled more thoughtfully than in the days of white male directors putting their kinks and fetishes on film (or why Bridgerton and it's spin-off is popular). Thanks to Intimacy coordinators and a broader gaze steering the proceedings. I really think a revolution is coming and all it will take is one big mainstream hit that is thoroughly sexy and undeniably good to critics and audiences. Preferrably *not* with het white leads.

can someone just take Mike's twitter account away from him already. i'm so fucking tired.
like dude just shut the fuck up.
Anyway. I vote we just ignore him forever actually and we do whatever we want with canon now. These two don't deserve it. And no I'm not just talking about this incident.
There's more. [x]
LOTS MORE. [x]
