Hi, I'm so happy that you're interested in this art, it's not very well-known like the other types of divination. I will highlight some of the essential points of Lithomancy here, hope that it can help you in some way 🌼

HOW DID I START?

Thanks to the power of friendships and dreams lol.

I've had an on and off relationship with Lithomancy for the past 10 years. I was first introduced to this art by a friend. I would read Tarot for her and she would read crystal for me. At that time, I tried to dabble in it a little but didn't connect well with it. Likely due to my lack of knowledge and the right timing.

Then, last year, the year of my Saturn return, I had a dream about going to a shop selling handmade crafts and crystals with my nephew (you could say that he was the embodiment of my inner child in the dream). Not long after that, another friend of mine brought me to an actual crystal shop where I bought my first set of crystals and began to seriously study and practice Lithomancy.

TOOL & MATERIALS:

1. The book:

The only learning resource I had was from the book Lithomancy: the psychic art of reading stones by Gary L. Wimmer and from watching my friend do the readings. The book was a good starter, the author explains several key concepts that are essential for reading stones.

2. The stones:

In the past, I used sea shells, pebbles and even clay to substitute for the crystals. The things I used were beautiful, but it didn't feel right, some were too heavy while others too light. Seeing them together raised no emotion or insight in me.

Only until last year, when I went into a crystal shop for the first time and bought a set of crystals, did I feel a connection to the stones. I chose the crystals purely by hunches with near zero knowledge about the meaning of each crystal. It was like a blind casting, you only saw the candidates but you didn't know anything about them and you didn't see their performance beforehand. You just picked based on their looks lol.

Not to say that you have to use crystals to read, it might depend on each person's aesthetic, way of pattern recognising and interpreting. For me, colourful crystals help me see the connection, the interaction better, you just need to find whatever work for you. Heck, I even made a random chart generator on Excel to read at some point.

There's no fixed number for the stones nor rules for choosing which stone for what. But in general, you would want to choose something with the size that can fit a dozen nicely in one palm of your hand, and with distinct shapes. Avoid rough crystal because they can fragmented easily after numerous tossing.

3. The surface:

Any surface smooth and even enough to allow the stones to fall on without excessive tumbling, the background colour should allow you to see the stones clearly and doesn't give your eyes fatigue after staring at for too long.

In the book, the circle was form by a strip of leather, lace or some similar material with a knot tying the two ends together. I was lazy so I just drew the circle on the fabric lol.

THE READING:

Unlike some other divination methods, which have certain rules of interpretation and meaning that you should follow. Lithomancy is quite free-form. There's lots of rooms for improvisation and creativity.

The method I use for reading is based loosely on the guide in the book with lots of personal modifications. I read the stones like how I read an astrological chart with each stone represents a planet plus other meanings (10 stones for Sun ~ Pluto, 2 for South and North node, 1 for Inner child, 1 for Fear, 1 for Life). The circle is divided into 12 sections, representing 12 houses.

Another time, I use a different set and assign a completely different set of meanings to read for specific topics. You can tailor the stones, the layout to your need freely, as long as you can connect with them on an intuitive level.

In short, it's all about how you assign the meaning to each stone and read the interaction, the relationship between them. Very much like watching a play, a movie where characters interact with each other in different scenes and you get the messages through them.

if i send somebody some art or something i made and they don't reply it's like..... speedrun strats to making me HATE them. idk why. especially when i had to find the courage to send it and then oh nvm guess i'll just go kms. but what's even worse is when i get ignored and a week later i mention the thing i sent in another conversation and they go "oh yeah!! i really liked that!!!" did the idea of Actually Telling Me and Acknowledging Me never cross your mind????

what circumstances do you think psychic would have to be under to try to read someone's mind?

given that he normally refrains from reading minds unless he has to due to its taxing nature, I can think of a few scenarios where he would do it.

1. if he’s interrogating someone for information, especially if he knows they’re prone to lying. this also brings up another part of my interpretation of Psychic’s powers, in that he can tell whether someone is lying more easily than he can read their thoughts. this is partly due to his perceptive and observant nature and is partly a more shallow manifestation of his mind-reading ability. hence it probably doesn’t take as much energy to deduce someone’s honesty. but that doesn’t mean he necessarily knows what the truth is even if he knows they’re lying to him.

anyway, reading someone’s mind during an interrogation is probably more reliable than just torturing information out of them or something like that lol bc otherwise they could say Anything. and I think Psychic is smart enough to recognize that.

2. in a life or death situation where reading someone’s mind, be it an enemy or an ally, would grant him some information to plan an escape or a way to fight back. maybe not even necessarily life or death, but if he or someone/something he cares about is in sufficient danger Psychic might go to the trouble of reading someone’s mind if he thinks it’ll help him.

3. if it’s simply easier than directly asking the person whose mind he’s reading whatever it is Psychic is trying to find out. Psychic’s very awkward by nature, and typically hides it by being distant and chilly towards most people. so it’s plausible if he wanted to learn something specific about someone he’s not very close with, Psychic might peek into their mind instead of asking them upfront. while he’s definitely blunt, unafraid, and confrontational, Psychic is also self-aware and he does understand there are moments when he’d best keep his nonexistent mouth shut.

this is probably the least common/likely scenario because of the energy expense he has to weigh, the general discomfort Psychic has with getting to know most people, and the fact that he’s probably less reserved around his master(‘s family), who he spends most of his time with. but I could still see it happening as a one off thing. with people like Void, mayhaps.

I also don’t really see Psychic reading minds for the helluvit, mostly only when he’s looking for something specific or is trying to find information that could give him an edge.

One thing I cannot do, and haven't been able to for quite a while, is see things. I get glimpses at times but that's about it and it's very rare. I was wondering if you may know of a way I could clear my mind or my block so as to see past it and see what I'm meant to be able to see?

First of all it’s important to note that not everyone is born with the gift of sight but everyone alive does have gifts they can develop if properly cultivated & it’s definitely more rewarding to focus on developing those gifts we do naturally have. Not to mention they’re the key to our individual life’s purpose.

Having said that, if you have a persistent interest on the subject & you’ve also experienced glimpses it’s possible you might have the gift - especially given that you mentioned feeling you have a block.

If that’s the case I recommend you commit to a regular meditation practice, learn to stare into the distance out of focus while paying attention to the things that happen outside the corner of your eyes & drink third eye opening tea (I’ll share a recipe soon) before bed.

You could also do a block buster spell specific to your third eye & crown chakra and/or your spiritual gifts.

Went to the bookstore today and asked about their mythology section and this frickin guy had the gall to be like "Yeah it's over here, but these are really dense and difficult so let me show you the children's mythology section." I was so baffled I didn't say anything. Normally I would've been very offended, but I couldn't help but laugh because I was like "I've been reading those massive textbook-esque mythology books since I was a literal child as research for my novel, sir. But sure, show me the kid's section, I like reading kids' books too."

I've been scrolling through your psychic Dion headcanon and I saw the chronic migraines idea and I just thought of the cutest fluff idea of Dion's polycule trying to take care of him before Morris realizes that his psyonics being on the fritz is connected to his migraines!

The sun is setting behind the tree line when Dion feels a tingling behind his eyes, like fingers pressing on his optic nerves.

Not now. Please, not now.

He's sitting on the roof of the brain-shaped building he's grown so familiar with over the summer, his feet dangling twenty feet over the Quarry's lake.

Gisu's pressed to his left side, her hand linked in his as they watch the sky turn gold. Morris is on his right, his chair resting on the ground for once so he can rest his arm on Dion's shoulder. It's the end of the day and he just wants to spend his precious free time relaxing with his partners.

It's the water. It's always the water. He should have known better than to get so close to so much water, but the weather is so nice, and he's been doing better. He doesn't even get dizzy looking down at the lake.

Gisu and Morris's chatter floats over his head. The words garble together, bleeding into long strings of nonsense. Sunbeams bouncing off the water grow brighter, trailing in long wispy lines as he moves his head. It almost looks pretty.

The hand on his shoulder shakes him. He hunches over, neck muscles tightening like stretched rubber bands. Oh god, it's starting and he can't stop it. The pressure in his head builds slowly, like air filling a balloon.

"Dion? Awoka eenu ehligh?"

It takes a second for him to register his name. "Mmmph. I'm fine," he says automatically. He turns to look at Morris, and catches the sun behind his head, burning directly into his retinas. Red, green, and yellow and lights flash behind his eyelids as he squeezes them shut.

"Dion, abuu habing norah?"

He tries to focus on Gisu's voice. Her tone is full of concern, even if the meaning is hard to puzzle out.

His skull feels too small, like his brain is swelling up with water, threatening to crack the bones and explode like a horror movie prop. He presses his palms to his temples as a dozen little invisible needles pinprick his skull.

Warm hands hold his chin. They press against his jaw, coaxing him to unclench his teeth.

A hand pressed to his back, two more on his shoulders, pulling him to his feet. He wobbles, his legs tingling and half-asleep, but Morris and Gisu steady him.

They walk him back into the Motherlobe. Morris's levitation lifts Dion, supporting his weight as Gisu nudges him forward step by step.

He isn't sure how long it is they walk. Anyone they pass is sure to stare, but he can't tell with his eyes shut tight.

A door opens and closes behind him. A larger set of hands cup his head, fingers warm and rough. They rub delicately over his brows, the signal that it's safe to open his eyes.

The lights are off in the jr agents' dorm room, and it's getting darker as Gisu hurries to draw the blinds. Adam smiles down at Dion, cupping his cheeks.

"Apahhu nruv?"

Dion can't understand the words, but the tone of his boyfriend's soft British drawl brings his shoulders down from around his ears.

The dumpy couch in the dorms smells like Morris's cologne and Sam's woodland animal friends. He didn't used to like it, but now he relaxes into the familiar cushions, laying down and curling into a tiny ball. The dark helps. He can focus on breathing and not holding back vomit.

Gisu nudges him, and he lets her pick him up and deposit his head in her lap, careful not to jostle him. She pets his head as the others chat quietly.

He listens for as long as he can, holding on to the sound of their voices as his head splits down the middle. The pressure is the awful part. Something inside him banging on the inside of his head, trying to get out.

He might make a sound of pain— he can't hear himself if he does— because the talk around him stops. Gisu squeezes his arm as he wraps his hands around his head. The agony throbs with his heartbeat.

Someone else touches him. He tries to open his eyes, but the world is a swimming mess of color. Leaning into their hands, Dion lets them move him however they want.

They lightly touch his forehead, and he can feel cool breath on his face as his cheeks pinken. They're so close, and he doesn't need more blood rushing to his head from being flustered.

Then, miraculously, the pounding in his brain eases. Like air escaping from a leaky tire, the pressure in his head deflates. He gasps, nearly falling forward face-first.

When the touch pulls away, he whines, reaching back for them. His brain is still on fire, but it's more of a campfire and less of an incinerator. With relief so strong he can't keep himself up any longer.

The feeling is like cool water running over a blistering burn. It's enough that he can start to drift off. The only thing he can do is wait for the rest of the migraine to fade on its own, but now he can doze until it passes.

Gisu stares at the boy in her lap. His chest rises and falls steadily as he sleeps. Morris and Adam gape at Lizzie, kneeling in front of the couch, her hands hovering over Dion.

Lizzie's own shock is obvious. She closes her open mouth, one eyebrow quirked as she studies the boy in the center of them all.

"Lizzie… Did you…?"

"I thought a little ice would take the edge off. But then I felt his mind… there was so much energy, it's like a lightning storm in there. The static was gonna discharge eventually," she says, whispering.

"Psychic discharge. Hell, that means…" Adam kneels next to her and presses another kiss to Dion's forehead.

"Okay. Okay. I think we should talk about this when he's awake." Even with her mind racing on a superhighway of questions, Gisu can't help her own lips twitching up as she sees how calm Dion is. There will be a lot to talk about later, but for now it's enough that he's feeling better.

"Sounds good to me. Leave the serious stuff for later. I want to find some whipped cream and a feather." Morris rubs his hands together like a cartoon supervillain. He won't do anything, not when Dion is in pain, but the joke disperses some of their anxiety as Gisu whaps him on the hair.

Dion is psychic. It makes sense. The symptoms of psychic repression are weird, but the headaches and fatigue are classic. He's always been so firm and confident about it, and his family agreed that he never displayed any visible powers. But that's not a guarantee. People miss things, I should have considered the possibility….

Morris settles next to Lizzie on the couch while Adam slips under Dion's legs to sit in the middle. She puts the should haves away. For now, they'll keep each other company, watching anime without sound and texting each other memes until Dion wakes up.

When he does blink awake, Dion feels better than he ever has after an episode. His friends and partners are sleeping, flopped over him, limbs tangled together in such a mess he doesn't want to think about getting up.

Dion finds someone's hand and holds it tight, and he can almost feel his head clear even more. Love is funny like that.

Which do you like more, the manga or the novel?

I'm assuming this is about the Shinrei Tantei Yakumo series (not that there's much other possibility...)

I'm going to say it's the manga for me. To begin with, it was my first introduction to the series, and one I would still recommend people interested in the series to start with as it's easier to get into compared to the daunting length of the novel volumes and would leave a better first impression than the anime.

Also, as an artist myself, I'd be lying if I wasn't drawn into the series through art in the beginning, and to say that Oda-sensei's work had been a significant influence to my own would be an understatement. Ghosts and supernatural occurrences being the center of the series meant it inevitably deals with death and various other sensitive topics, and I felt that the adaptation handled them well in its visual storytelling. I could mention a few panels and illustrations here and there from the manga that're pretty much seared to the back of my mind. On a lighter note, with manga serialization also came the type of standalone extra content that we otherwise wouldn't really get from the novel format. Being a fanartist doing mostly transformative work, those are a welcome supplement of ideas for me to explore.

Reading the novels though, perhaps what stood out the most in contrast to the manga counterpart would be the differing perspectives it has to offer as every case unravels to its resolution; from recurring and non-recurring characters alike. Personally, having known these characters from the manga led me to be more interested in seeing the story from another point of view that you couldn't get from the adaptation. After all, although the series does fall under the supernatural mystery genre, it is so much more about the nuances of human relationships than it is about the horrors of the supernatural.

So while my preference leans towards the manga, the strengths of the manga adaptation and the original novel complements my overall experience with the series.

Hihi!! I'll try my best to answer this but I'm not the best at picking out particular sources BUT ! The setting I'd say is mostly based around neon lights, industrial architecture, more metalwork than any city really needs to have and (squints like I don't know if this is a great way of describing it) insect architecture? See also huuuge machines and their internals because I think they're Neat. I haven't paid a great amount of detail to it in the backgrounds currently because I'm trying to be nicer to myself in terms of how much I have to do art-wise for blogs but. I have thoughts on it+

The main colour palette so far has really just been there to reflect Psychipendra's colour palette :3 Rest assured that specific shade of red will be everywhere /silly

🎉 for a celebration-themed headcanon ?

Every year since they were 16, if he was planetside at the time, he's thrown Jim a birthday party.

He didn't get to have them growing up, really, Curly knows that. His birthday was a reminder to his father about his mother and that never went over well.

But everyone deserves to be celebrated and treasured, in Curly's opinion, so he's always made the effort to at least come up with a cake and something decently nice to eat, and a present or two. Sometimes they had mutual friends who'd show up, and other years Jim had burned every bridge he could already...

Every year he could, though, it was at least them.

Because he needed for Jim to know that no matter what the rest of the world thought, to him, the fact that Jim was alive was something worth celebrating.
