Casey jones - I've thought this since I first watched the 2012 version as a child! I also see the 2018 version as being part Puerto Rican. The Casey Jones vibe ™ gives the super energetic cousin at a reunion

Luz Noceda - she is canonically afro-latina which is so awesome! She is confirmed Dominican which is also so awesome! The Puerto Rican headcanon comes in because in the background of s3 ep1 there is a Puerto Rican flag in the basement! I believe her dad (Manny) may have mixed Dominican + Puerto Rican

I… I have referenced a lot of songs in my liveblogging days. Some might say too many. Certainly way too many in this episode alone. Out of all songs I have referenced and quoted up to now, if there was only one that I could tell you, dear reader, to go listen to right now, that would have to Moonlight Shadow by Mike Oldfield and with Maggie Reilly on vocals. Mike Oldfield has made a lot of great music. Horror movie enthusiasts will recognize his magnum opus Tubular Bells from the 1973 movie The Exorcist, while video game enthusiasts might recognize Nuclear, used in the trailer for Metal Gear V: The Phantom Pain. I’ve also quoted Shadow on the Wall in relation to The Collector several times, and I love that song. Tubular Bells part 1 is just a little shorter than my drive home from work, and I’ve had some nicely atmospheric drives home during the autumn months. But out of all of these, Moonlight Shadow stands out to me. There is something beautifully magical about it.

When I quoted the first two verses, I did so in reference to the tragic story of Evelyn, Caleb, and Philip. Hence why I changed the lyrics of the second verse, exchanging the words ”gun” and ”shot” with ”knife” and ”stabbed” respectively. My hope was that I would have the chance to continue that reference. But… there has been a change of plans.

And you might be wondering what the point of this is, why am I all of the sudden infodumping about some random musician who’s made a couple of songs I like? What does that have to do with what is going on right now? Well, you see, the thing is…

Okay it’s still very fleshy and is like a newborns head but here’s what I have so far.

Luz Noceda is a bullied and isolated queer (and later trans hehe) teenager who is struggling with her dad’s death a couple years ago. She is stressed over SATs and has just finished filming her video diary (the one we see before she yknow. Disappears for like 3 months. :D). The spider that landed on her head is crawling around as she is turning off the video. As she’s turning off the computer she sees the spider on her hand and is captivated by its vibrant colors and it looks almost like it’s glowing. Suddenly, it bites her. Luz literally doesn’t care because she’s not afraid (unlike me) and shakes it off, throws a bandaid on, etc.

random stuff now

story goes on like usually until she gets to the BI. She doesn’t glitch there because it’s still the same ‘earth’ (152312) but there is two spiders. One has bitten amity, and one got into the human world and bit Luz. Now to amity. Amity has been Spider-Woman (<— her first title) for around 2 years now. Only Ed and Em know her true identity and her Canon Event was First Lost (idk who she lost yet I might make someone up). Anyways she’s known as spider woman and saves the BI from slightly more-worse-than-average creatures (like giraffes /j)

Idk when Luz and Amity find out eachothers identity but I’ve decided it has to be by Clouds on the Horizon cause they gonna kiss (I might make it upside down kiss). Anyways clouds on the horizon Luz is in her spider-light costume underneath her clothes ready for fighting.

I’m jumping around a little lol. Eda and King are the first to know about Luz being Spider-Light since they helped her. Willow and Gus find out later. Hunter finds out during Hollow Mind (HhrHriwj) along with Belos. (Thought he might’ve always known).

anyways back to where we wear. Plan of pretend-to-be-scouts is still the same and they once again get caught. Odalia and Alador find out Amity is Spider-Woman (or also know as Spider-Goo/something to do with abominations and spiders when she changes her costume in Through the Looking Glass Ruins to the purple suit ^) and Luz is Spider-Light. Kiki finds out then too. Luz still goes into the hands of Belos and the big fight between her and him is AMPED with SPIDER POWER now Yay!

Lore dump under cut (there’s a lot)

Maybe about 4 years precanon Hunter is just hanging out and meets Vee and they become best friends (but he definitely doesn’t see her as a little sister because that’d be ridiculous and he’s not at all attached). About 2 years precanon the kiddos are just hanging out when Belos finds them and stuff gets bad. They run but Belos has to keep it low key so the people wont know he’s a bitch. Vees disguise is just based on a scout but due to limited magic she still has spots, ears, etc. They find Eda selling her human trash and Vee thinks it’s a great idea to hide behind this funky looking door with the rain behind it. And then, oh my titan, the rain doesn’t boil. Hunter figures out they’re in the human realm.

Luz (who’s maybe about 12?) finds a pointy eared boy with pink eyes and a shapeshifter so this is the best day of her life. But they’re injured! She calls her Mami who is very confused but she sees hurt kids and is like mine now. So now she’s got these magic children on the run from a mysterious realm. Neat. Through the power of plot armor (idk) they’re officially adopted. They take time to warm up to Camila but they take to Luz instantly.

Luz has 2 magic siblings so she’s even more into fantasy now. So, reality check camp. The principal is meaner because this girl is constantly sneaking her homeschooled siblings into school. So yeah, summer camp. Hunter and Vee are not happy but not really confident enough to tell Camila that. So they wait with their sister for the bus.

Then! An owl comes! Luz starts chasing it and then they start chasing her. Hunter and Vee recognize the isles and possibly Eda. They’re all freaked out but Luz is like, yay! Now we can figure out where you’re from! This is like a side mystery. They do the regular adventures but with noceda sib bickering. Occasionally there’s curiosity in finding Hunter and Vees mysterious parents they’re being vague about and not really being helpful.

In AOAW, Hunter and Vee are being really weird about skipping the field trip but okay, they’re weird all the time. Maybe there’s a mini adventure of them bringing Amity her homework or something. So in YBOS they gotta save Eda. This is a horrible idea but sure why not. Luz’s siblings are being especially mean to Lilith even though she’s trying to be better. Luz doesn’t like her either but like why are they being so mean?

In that part where they find Belos her siblings are so scared but then he grabs them. Luz tries to get them but he takes them to some other room. Oh titan. She does the whole biz but doesn’t find her siblings so she’s very scared.

Meanwhile! Vee is returned to the Conformitorium. Belos doesn’t really have anyone to refill his supplies so he kinda needs her and Hunter. He locks Hunter in his old room and gives him an ultimatum. He does his old duties as GG or else he’ll replace him and Vee. He can’t escape during missions because Vees still at the Conformitorium.

In Separate Tides, Hunter catches up Luz and King on the ship and then Eda robs it. They clarify things, figure things out, etc. So Luz has isn’t entirely reunited with her siblings but she knows where they are. She probably tells Willow, Gus, and Amity, too.

In Hunting Palismen, they free the palismen and defest Kiki so, high on power, they break Vee out. They kinda sorta come home at they same time as Eda and King do with the wood so that’s an interesting conversation. So the next few eps are the same but with siblings and more trauma. Maybe Hunter and Willow also get together in knock knock knockin or maybe not. Maybe during then Vee thinks about a pretty enby they knew in the human realm. There’s also lumity here and there because lumity. Eclipse Lake Belos never gets the key but they only use half the blood and the key is taken Post hollow mind when the EC takes the owl house. Yesterdays Lie has all 3 Nocedas talking to Camila who does know they’re missing in this one. Cue depressing reunion. ASIAS is just silly kids play sports. Maybe there’s a small run in with the EC. In E&E, Luz is extra sus of phil especially with his drawing (of her ‘mano???) but the others stay home to meet del.

Hollow Mind! Night market incident where they just… bump into the traitors. Oops. Still just Luz and Hunter now with less bickering over if Belos is evil because y’know they know. At the end Hunter still runs so Labyrinth Runners can still happen. Vee is there for the whole “you’re a titan, King” deal and comforts him because she gets it. She’s been there.

The siblings reunite in COTH and there’s some minor changes in with Vee in the Belos fight and maybe she goes back to the demon realm with them? (It also makes sense if she isn’t ready). Plot wise it’s the same after Kings Tide but Camilas closer with Hunter and Vee (calling them mijo and mija more, etc.) and sadder because all her kids were missing and there wasn’t really a doppelgänger so she knew they were gone the whole time.

Luz Noceda and What She Means to Me

Luz is the greatest character of all time of any media ever because she is THE Luz fucking Noceda, I have loved her ever since I saw the first episode, my favorite character and remained that way. She was always underrated by the fandom in her own show. She changed my life.

Her character is unapologetically cringe. She wears a cat hoodie and says “Meow meow.” She says random nonsense and gets big sparkly eyes and she stims by bouncing and running in place. She wears an otter onesie. She snorts book pages. She gives so many hugs.

She is androgynous, and I learned I wanted to have that style too. I saw Reaching Out and thought she looked so cool. I cut my hair and started dressing more androgynous and was so happy with that. It was inspired by Luz.

She ignores every binary. She wears a suit AND a skirt to Grom and it looks horrible but it’s HER. She has a derpy technicolor Palisman that shapeshifts. She is bisexual and she came out with an animated slideshow and a portmanteau couple name like the cringe silly icon she is.

She is so ADHD and she runs around and does the wildest impulsive things and she has volume control issues and she has a self insert Mary Sue based off her favorite fictional character, and now she’s going to battle an evil Christian colonialist in cosplay because she’s that cool.

She rediscovered a whole damn magic system and invented a bunch of spells and built an inter dimensional portal door in her backyard and she played a centuries old emperor like a fiddle and she saved so many people but she can’t even see it she doesn’t KNOW.

Her story means so much to me, her journey of being an outcast and feeling guilty for doing poor in school when she knows she can put her all into “waste of time” things like learning fantasy languages and hobbies like taxidermy. She let me forgive myself for failing college.

I didn’t truly forgive myself until I saw TTT and I cried the whole night realizing I can finally let go of that guilt.Just like Luz must learn. Seeing her find friends and family, and realizing her core wish is to be understood provides me so much comfort.

I’ve never known any character that made me feel so represented. Things that I used to be ashamed of, that Luz does too, I now feel positively about. I am so much softer on myself since I saw Luz make similar mistakes.

And her worst traits, that tendency toward self blame and keeping her guilt inside instead of confiding, made me reflect on my own tendency to do it, and I have worked hard to break this cycle. I see how harmful it is, not only to me, but loved ones, and I am changing.

My self esteem is higher now, I am forgiving of my disability, I feel safe to be a chaotic and silly mess, to be more androgynous, to get super cringey about fandom, and to reach out and confide in others. I have hope of finding people who I connect and feel at home with, like Luz did.

She is the cringiest little silly and also the most badass fucking LEGEND I’ve ever seen on screen. Luz Noceda the perfect icon. I am so grateful she exists. The ultimate character. Luz Noceda.

So random thought but hypothetically, how do you think things would have gone in your half siblings au if Eda has found the Nocedas earlier, before Manny passed away?

Ooooohhhh that's a really interesting hypothetical.

In this scenario, I'm going to say that Eda found them within the first month or two of the Nocedas moving to Gravesfield, when Luz is about 10. Eda bumps into them or hears someone call out their names, idk, but Manny and Camila get on her radar.

She spies on them a bit, and definitely breaks into their house just to make sure that yes, these are her kids other parents Luz's real parents. Eda briefly considers just, like, kidnapping them in the middle of the night and banking on the whole 'heres your long-lost kid!' thing to override the whole 'crazy witch criminal just burst in out bedroom window and kidnapped us' thing, before ultimately settling on trying to befriend them as 'Marilyn' (Owlberts idea).

Eda doesn't tell Luz at first, initially bc she doesn't want to get her hopes up before she confirms that these are the right people, and for a little bit after that its bc of her own insecurities about feeling like Luz isn't gonna need her or even want her around once she gets her 'real' parents back. This is at least a year after Luz gave her that bracelet as a Parents Day gift, which was the point when Luz realized that Eda was just as much her parent as Manny and Camila, but Eda, being Eda, didn't realize that that is what the bracelet meant.

'Marilyn' clumsily introduces herself to the Noceda's at the coffee shop, and actually hits it off a bit with Manny before the raccoon in her purse starts freaking out. Manny isn't doing great, but he isn't to the point where he's stuck in the hospital full time yet.

Manny and Camila come to the conclusion that 'Marilyn' is slightly unstable and lonely but ultimately harmless and possibly down-on-her-luck enough to be living out of her car. Until she slips up and mentions her kids, which then gets them a bit concerned, bc of the whole 'living in her car maybe' assumption.

'Marilyn' also goes on a whole ramble about how 'they aren't really her kids she's just taking care of them' and how 'they have real families to get back to' and she kinda accidentally spills way more than she wants to about her insecurities about raising King and Luz. Bc this whole thing? Getting to know and actually befriending Luz's 'real' parents? Has been messing with her head quite a bit.

Eda, once she realizes everything she just blurted out, thinks she just made herself look absolutely nuts and now she's gonna have to go back to the kidnapping plan. But, to her surprise, the Nocedas are sympathetic, if confused and even more concerned than before.

(They aren't entirely sure what 'Marilyns' situation is with her kids, but by the way she talked about them it was clear to them that 'Marilyn' absolutely adores her kids, insecurities aside)

But, Eda realizes that 'hey, even if we aren't exactly 'friends', mb I can get them to come meet the kids'. It takes her a whole week to psyche herself up to tell Luz that she finally found her 'real' parents, but after she's given Luz a heads up she finally asks Manny and Camila if they want to meet her kids.

When 'Marilyn' leads them to a rundown shack in the middle of the woods, the Noceda's think that they're 'homeless' theory was correct, and even worse than they thought (the shack looks much worse to live in than a car to them) only to have their whole world turned upside down when they step into the living room of a fully furnished and well-kept home...

...with Luz waiting to greet them.

The reunion goes similarly to how it goes in DoaF, but without the heartbreaking conversation about Manny. Bc of Manny needing his cancer treatment, they might not be able to stay for a whole week, but they do come up with a sort-of schedule like in DoaF where they can spend time with Luz.

This set-up leads to things being a lot less tense between Eda and the Noceda's than things are between Eda and Camila in DoaF. Manny and Camila were already sympathetic, even if they thought 'Marilyn' probably needed some kind of medication, but finding out that one of the kids she very clearly loves was their Luz, and seeing just how much Luz adores Eda does make them all sort of blending together an easier transition.

There is still some jealousy, on both sides, and a bit of conflict with Eda and Luz being wanted criminals despite Luz being 10, but things are still a bit smoother.

...and I think that Manny wouldn't die in this scenario.

The way I write healing magic is that it mostly just accelerates and amplifies the bodies natural healing. With healing magic (both in the form of healing potions made by Eda and going to Doc's clinic) working to boost his immune system and sort of heal the damage being done by the chemo therapy, it helps make his cancer treatments much more effective and he enters remission about 2 years after Eda found him and Camila.

And things kinda go on like that for a few years! Eda finishes that cloaking stone for Luz, and she's able to grow up in both realms, with both of her families. This also helps drag Eda out of her denial about being just as important to Luz as Manny and Camila are.

Eda expected to become like, barely more than a hotel to Luz once she found her 'real' parents, that Luz wouldn't need her for anything more than a place to sleep bc staying in the Human Realm full time isn't really an option with her being half-Titan.

But Luz, of course, does still want and need Eda in her life. She and Eda and King celebrate Human Realm holidays at Manny and Camila's home with them, and Manny and Camila spend any Boiling Isle holiday that the Owl's celebrate at the Owl House, they have Family Game Nights that alternate between Realms, they're all just a family.

It gets comfortable, and having Manny and Camila around actually makes the whole 'fugitives from the law' thing easier to deal with. Just getting groceries can be a risk, and having two people who can both bring in food from an entirely different dimension and go out into the Boiling Isle without having to constantly look over their shoulders for guards is a massive help.

And that's how things are for a few years!

Eda comes clean about the full extent of her curse to Manny and Camila after a good long while, bc she knows she'd been living on borrowed time since she got cursed and up until finding Luz's other parents the thought of 'what will happen to my kids when I'm permanently stuck as the Owl Beast' had been weighing on her heavily.

But now, she has two people who have stable lives (albeit lives mostly in the Human Realm) who have earned her hard-won trust, and who love her kids just as much as she does. It's a relief, even if it is quite bittersweet.

I'm quite sure how having both Camila and Manny around would affect all the Belos stuff, if that would lead to any major changes to things other than Manny being there when the Hexsquad gets stuck in the Human Realm (which is already really different from cannon S3)

Vee get's adopted earlier!

I've foreshadowed it in Doaf, but that lab under Adegast's castle was where Belos conducted the Basilisk experiments, and Vee and the other basilisks broke out three years before DoaF, and about a year after Eda found the Noceda's.

Vee only knew there was a portal to the Human Realm in the Owl Lady's stall bc she saw a Human with Eda (Luz in cannon, Camila in DoaF), and with two Humans hanging around Eda as soon as she's free, she might get to the Human Realm as soon as she's free from the lab.

Not entirely sure when/how she would wind up meeting one of the Noceda's, but lets just say she gets adopted within the first year of her being free, when she and Luz are around 11-12.

Vee only re-enters the Demon Realm for the holidays and family game nights in the Owl House for a while, but she does eventually get to the point where she's comfortable enough to like, hang out with Luz and her friends and things like that, but she always has the Human Realm and Manny and Camila's house as her Home.

I'm also not entirely sure how Vee being around would affect the big plot stuff, but with this set-up she will be there.

...I think that's everything up till the petrification ceremony kicking off the Plot heavy stuff.

Hero Artifact: Luz Noceda

With Luz, I went through a few revisions. My initial idea was a key/talisman that had a lot more skull/owl imagery, with horns referencing King and Papa Titan. But I wanted to lean away from that a bit to keep it more in-line with Luz. As Eda said "You gotta be your own witch".

Then as I was looking through stuff about her, I got to A. her backup dream of being a writer and her Glyph drawing, so I thought "Magic Pen".

This artifact allows Luz to tap back into the full power of her glyphs, and SO much more. The "Ink" of this pen (shown as the part that looks like space) is pure magical essence that can be molded however its user likes. In a way, it is an external bile sac which will allow Luz to use all the other Boiling Isles magics, making it sort of like Amity's training wand from Adventures in the Elements. It can also draw the glyphs in mid-air, sort of making it an in-between of the classic witch style of magic and glyph/titan magic. Also, the ink can be removed and be replaced with normal ink so Luz can use it s a normal pen if she wanted.

She can use it to access her titan form once again, but unlocking that feature kind of involves replicating the circumstance upon which she originally obtained that power, aka she has to stab herself in the heart with the Pen. It'll hurt like hell the first time, but afterward, it'll be far less painful and essentially treated as a super mode for her. She will then proceed to train her "transformation sequence posing" in private for a while.

While it does grant access to the other Boiling Isles magics, when it comes to the Nine Tracks/Covens there was a slight hiccup when it was created. Yes, Luz wanted to learn all the magics at Hexside, but these are also the nine magics of the Covens made by Emperor Belos, and we all know how much angst Luz feels about him. During the forging of this artifact that turmoil did risk limiting its ability to perform those magics, but luckily Luz's bonds with friends who are from those Covens/Trakcs managed to bypass them, but there are some issues when it comes to Construction Magic (Luz has no close friends who specialize in that), and Oracle Magic (the only two people connected to Luz with this type are Barcus, who she isn't very close to, and Odalia, her super awesome GF's evil mom). However if she can overcome these blocks she can access the ability to create new sigils that, instead of restricting what kinds of magic someone can use, can expand their ability, even granting those who couldn't use magic the ability to use it similar to how the Titan showed Luz the Glyphs, thus allowing her to learn magic.

The Pen can of course extend to act as a staff/perch for Stringbean.

The real fun part though, comes from what happens when Luz encounters other magics from other worlds. As Luz travels to various other worlds, she can create a spell circle that absorbs other types of magics and adds them to her ink reservoir/barrel. This will then allow Luz to access that new unique type of magic. Allowing her to greatly expand her magical abilities. She can only do this with magic though, it won't work on stuff like Ki/Chi. Luz will of course be excited to explore various other worlds and learn all these new types of magic and see how she can combine them. Luz's sigils could also work on these new magics, allowing other people to use magics from worlds not their own.

One risky path Luz could end up taking is messing around with biological manipulation magic, learning how to alter her own biology to use the other magics more naturally as some worlds have magic be a bloodline thing. Using it to give herself a natural bile sac and be a Boiling Isle's witch, not too bad. But if she starts altering biology and handing out magical talent in worlds where you got snobish mage nobility who may not take to kindly to some random plebeian handing out power that should be reserved for people of proper blood, then she might risk making some enemies.

For the design I kept with purple as a main color since that seems to be a color well associated with Luz, I wanted to try and do a bisexual flag color scheme but I can't find the right shade of pink right now. Yellowish-gold as a secondary color to reference the Light glyphs, and stars in the ink reservoir as Luz has a bit of a star motif sometimes. The classic Owl House eye goes well with her association with snakes and the moon behind it and its pink/lavender color scheme is meant to reference Amity. A bit of King horns on top and The feather on the end is meant to invoke imagery of a fantasy quill for her nerdy self and reference Eda, I looked up "Owl Feathers" and got a kind of a stripy look from some of them, so I tried to mix browns and a bit of a red based on Owlbert/Hooty and Eda's Owl Beast/Harpy form (specifically her red dress and the more brownish-orange her hair would naturally be w/o the curse).

Luz/Camila/Belos drabble

The dream was usually the same. It wouldn’t be anything tangible or concrete, just quick images and scenarios that brought her dread and anxiety; being chased through a dark forest or a cavernous hallway; being isolated by everyone and everything around her, leaving her to wallow in self-pity; even watching the ones she loved know her for what she truly was, and abandoning her appropriately. It felt like she was drowning.

Luz woke up with a faint exhalation through her nose. She didn’t burst from her bed screaming like in movies. She just lay as she was, looking wide-eyes at the ceiling and still as a statue. Her chest hammered and sweat was already forming in her pits and joints. And, like always, she fought the urge to weep.

She’d always had dreams like this ever since her Papi died. Not frequently, but consistently so. Sometimes she’d sleep peacefully for weeks before it happened, and other times she’d experience it two or three times in a single week before it abated. The small rational part of her brain knew it was just memories and intrusive thoughts, just her mind sifting through random negativities she held inside. But at that moment she wasn’t rational – She certainly didn’t feel like it.

Luz felt ashamed for what she wanted to do just then, as much as her better judgement told her otherwise. No, she thought joylessly. It’s pathetic and childish. You shouldn’t bother them with this!

And yet, she still got up from her bed and walked carefully towards the hall, holding herself fearfully.

“Mom…?”

Camila Noceda stirred in her bed, having been pulled from her half-asleep state. As much as she wanted to stay put, the familiar sound of her daughter’s voice – which had been warped with worry, she fast realised – was enough to bring her to her senses. She rolled around and sat up groggily, the shape lying prone next to her also moving a tad.

“…Mija? Are you okay?” She asked of her daughter. She wasn’t annoyed at being woken up and didn’t sound it either. Concern was etched into her question, and were the lights on, Luz would have seen it fixed onto her beautiful face. “What’s wrong?”

Luz stood by the open door where she was, closing it behind her as quietly as she could. Already, though, Camila’s partner was stirring within their giant, warm bed. Philip sat up with his long, scraggly hair trailing behind and around him like the world’s longest mop. Despite how he looked, he certainly didn’t sound dishevelled. “Luz?” His soft voice was music to Luz.

The young woman finally spoke up. “Can I stay with you? For a little bit?” It wasn’t just a request, but more a heartfelt please. “… I don’t think I can be alone right now.”

She feared the rejection that would surely come from the two, but was pleasantly surprised when-

“Oh, baby,” Camila cooed, opening the blanket up for them. “Come here.” Her partner, the former Emperor Belos himself, joined along in this request – one he was happy to carry out.

“Oh, Luz…” He told her softly as the girl made her way over. She hurried her pace as she clambered into the bed and between the two, who brought her in for a hug. Luz couldn’t stop herself from bursting into tears. She just couldn’t stop it anymore. She heaved out continuous “I’m sorry”’s as she cried into her Mami’s chest, all while Camila and Philip soothed “no no” and “It’s Okay” to her. She just let all the pain she had kept inside out. All the anxiety and woe and dread as she sobbed and heaved into her mother's shoulder. Camila, for her part, rubbed circles into her daughter's back as she soothed sweet nothings into her delicate ear. Philip pressed himself against the younger woman's back and kissed the back of her skull with soft, scarred lips.

It took about a minute for the two of them to ask what was wrong. Luz answered (as best she could) with how tired she was, how much it all hurt and how much she wanted to stop existing. She told it through gradually weakening sobs and heaves. Camila wanted to burst into tears just from hearing that alone, and Philip's centuries-old heart sank. All they could do was coo and sooth their mutual daughter-partner as best they could, telling her that it would all be okay and that a solution would be found. It was about fifteen minutes of stroking, soothing and caressing that led to Luz falling asleep; her breathing slowed to a steady, relaxed crawl as she just stopped talking.

It was at this time that the two elders chose to speak.

“This needs to stop.” Philip whispered to Camila, his voice only the slightest whisper amongst the nightly quiet of the Noceda bedroom. “I don’t know… much in the way of medical terms today, but… there must be more we can do. Or someone else can do…” His eyes never peeled away from Luz’s curly head of hair. Camila sniffed, keeping it together as best she could. “I know. I know…” She had stopped rubbing circles into her daughter’s back but held her close all the same. She could feel the younger Noceda’s warm breath on her bosom. “I just didn’t think it had gotten this bad, Philip. I can’t believe I… I allowed this to happen.” “Camila,” the older man began, bringing a free hand over to stroke at her face. “Camila, listen to me. You did nothing wrong. It was me, if anything-“

“Phil, no-“

She sighed, as did he. The two remained silent, looking down at their girlfriend. No matter what happened or whoever’s fault it truly was, they knew they had to put their own anxieties aside. For Luz’s sake.

“… Perhaps leave it until the morning?” Philip prodded at last. Camila nodded silently, a weak smile curving onto her face. Philip Wittebane returned his own, closing his eyes.

And Luz slept like a baby for the rest of the night.
