Creating new wip’s is so tiring and honestly, I get so worried about making it perfect that my mind wonders to a new wip idea and it’s an endless cycle of new wip after new wip.

How did you get the courage to start writing? Did you write for yourself at first? Why did you start posting your fics ( they're amaing btw, ur an awesome writer) you got better through practice right? do you have any tips for practicing or anything else regarding writing - someone who wants to be able to write

(Brace yourself for a long answer, also sorry this took me 36 days to see.)

Well, I didn’t really get into writing until I was 16 and that was only because I had recently finished the entire Harry Potter series and felt the magic was gone and I wanted it back. I only began writing fiction last year - at the age of 24. Originally, I started writing as a response to something.

My two earliest works (and still ongoing wips), were written in response to something I lacked. A Series Unknown and Reaperverse (excerpts of both can be found here) both began as a way to fill some type of void. ASU started out more like an Encyclopedia that I wanted to make for magical creatures - as I missed the magic HP had brought - and Reaperverse began as a story which answered the questions I felt Dead Like Me left unresolved.  ASU evolved when I got so focused on making a creation myth for the faux-encyclopedia and the universe at large I was creating and Reaperverse spun off from that. Both were written in response to something I lacked in this other media but they always focussed on my own characters with my on worldbuilding despite a similar premise. So it wasn’t so much as courage or writing for myself but feeling a need to regain the magic or respond to plotholes in media I already enjoyed.

I would also read other writers, less so for their characters and plot and more for their style - the way in which they wrote. I took what I liked from several authors and developed my own style by blending theirs with my emerging style. Now my style is mostly my own, but that’s how it started - grabbing inspiration from others. Even when it comes to ideas, I find seeing what others are doing, in the genres in which I write, to be very helpful in giving me ideas. I”m not stealing or plagiarising, but I am taking inspiration from a single element of their writing and putting my own spin on it.

And I’m still very protective of my work. it’s only in this last year that I’ve been comfortable posting any of it at all. And that’s where fanfic helped. As I got more comfortable with fanfic - I was originally against it, believe it or not - I found that posting online and amassing an audience became easier. As for the protectiveness, that’s why I don’t post my novel-length original work. I post short fiction here but I’m still not comfortable posting chapters of my original fiction.

As for starting, my suggestion would be just to start. I only wrote diary entries until I was 16 - well diary entries and vent pieces. It wasn’t until grade 10 that I even considered creative writing as a hobby or career choice.

Taking a creative writing class can always be helpful. You get constructive criticism on your work (as well as editing and critiquing others) and the workshop setting makes the class rather chill and everyone was very nice. I’m not great with criticism but I always found the critiques in my fiction classes to be pretty mellow because everyone’s in the same boat.  You might have different styles, genres, techniques, levels of experience, but you’re all their to write and produce something by the end of the course - whether a set of short stories or the first few chapters of a novel.

The other advice would definitely be to read the work of others. I mostly write genre fiction so I often read writers who specifically write fantasy, but reading outside your genre or genre altogether can also help you see writing in a different light and pick up on techniques not common to your preferred genre. It took me forever to get comfortable sharing any type of work - and fanfic is great if you are looking to share your work - so don’t feel as though you need to share it. HEck, I still don’t usually share my writing with family.

But no matter what, if you’re writing it to share, or keep to yourself, always write for yourself. As long as you like what you’re writing, others will too.

My new oc’s Part 2 (Picrew, small info)

I’m back and I have four more oc’s to talk about.

So let’s get straight into it.

(Again, these designs and information might change later in working on the wip but for now, this is all true. The picrew is djarn’s character maker)

1. Cecil Riott (He/him)

Right, let’s get the villain out of the way first so we can get to the characters I like. So, this is Cecil. He’s actually very old (72) but I was unable to add that to the picrew so we are stuck with him looking both young and old at the same time.

Cecil created the Government Thanatos with all the reaper systems, he died decades before the story starts but he still has an important part to play in the story.

He is able to get people to do what he wants and there are many things about him which are still hidden to the public and to people who know him.

He’s the only cishet character and he uses he/him pronouns, he doesn’t have a romantic partner, he doesn’t deserve one.

2. Trinity Kim (She/her)

Trinity is the older sister of Eve and works for a resistance movement called Kore. She is against the Government that her sister works for and she wishes to show her sister how much damage the Government makes when they claim they’re helping.

Trinity lived with her sister and her aunt after her parents were killed but her aunt was worried as Trinity agreed with her parent’s views on the Government which meant she was at great risk of being killed by reapers so she was sent to live with her Godfathers. But at a twist of fate, the Godfathers she was sent to live with also hated the Government and they helped her to join the resistance group known as Kore. 

Trinity is a cis lesbian who uses she/her pronouns, she has no desire to settle down into a relationship just yet but she still wishes to have someone one day.

3. Arin Liu (He/him)

Arin is the love interest of Nathan Madden. He works at a school, mostly working on history but sometimes he is a geography teacher as well.

Arin has no known family, but he is fine with that. Arin is part of the travelled, a group of people who are able to travel through space and time in order to get to different points in time. Arin was originally suppose to die in 1964 in the vietnam war but instead, he time travelled to England in the future in order to stop his death, only to bring the end of the world with him. Now, with reapers after him, Arin is starting to wonder if it was better for him to just died fighting rather than running.

Arin is a cis bisexual man who uses he/him pronouns, he adores Nathan Madden and he is always calling him Nate, a nickname barely anyone is allowed to use.

4. Jynx Madden (She/her)

Jynx is the older sister of Nathan, she can also communicate with the dead but she prefers to block out the ghosts with different drugs. 

She also works for the resistance but only because it’s the only place that she has felt wanted. She is always meeting with Nathan but she hasn’t told him that she works for the resistance and Nathan just wants to see his sister so the topic never came up.

Jynx is a trans lesbian who uses she/her pronouns, she hasn’t found anyone just yet but she loves to tease Trinity with some playful flirting.

And that’s the end, again.

Will there be a part 3? Probably but not until I’ve made the other characters.

My new oc’s (Picrews, small info I’ve made)

So I’m starting a new wip, just called the Reaperverse at the moment because there is going to be a LOT of stories.

So I wanted to start making the characters so I’ve made seven of them so far using a picrew (My favourite one, djarn’s character creator) and here is stuff I’ve got about them so far (It’s not a lot) Also, let me just say before I start, these are all set in stone, character’s design or even whole characters in general can change so don’t get too attach to these characters just yet.

So let’s start!

1. Diego Hugo (He/him)

So Diego is the leader type but he’s not the leader so it causes a few problems in the group.

He had an alright up bringing and he knew that from a very young age he wanted to be a Reaper so when he became part of the Valkyrie Reapers, he was very excited as he knew he wanted to join and that he was going to do a good job.

He wants to be the leader of the Valkyrie group he is in, Tempus, but that job is given to Victor Fuller, a rich kid which does make Diego angry as he feels like Victor must have been handed everything seeing as he is a rich kid (Which isn’t true).

Diego is a cis bisexual man who uses he/him pronouns, and although he hates Victor at the moment, he’ll learn over time that it is easier to love him than hate him.

2. Victor Fuller (He/him)

I love Victor with my whole soul and he is the best. He’s a rich kid who hates his parents and were kicked out after coming out as gay. They tried to reconnect with him after he became a Valkyrie Reaper (Which is sort of like a celeb) but he was having none of their toxic arses and he stayed far away from them.

He doesn’t connect to the others, he’s quiet but he’s a good leader and is able to connect to people when he needs to. The others don’t hate him but they can get pissed off at him when they have a mission and he’s barely talking but they work through it.

Victor is a cis gay man who uses he/him pronouns and over time, he will be the first to fall in love with Diego Hugo (he is hopeless when stopping himself from falling in love)

3. Rosalie Harper (She/her)

Rosalie is that soft cottagecore girl who you see at an art class who looks so perfect and divine that finding something bad about her seems impossible.

Rosalie isn’t as perfect as she seems though. Through her cheery exterior, Rosalie is a broken mess of pieces that is trying to stop her from shattering every hour of every day. At a young age, she came from a small family that wanted the best for their daughter and training her up to care about life and caring for others probably wasn’t a good idea when putting her into a reaper group, in which her whole job is to kill people who have broken even the smallest of laws.

Although her job can take a toll on her sometimes, she is still able to power through and able to do her job.

Rosalie is a cis lesbian who uses she/her pronouns and she also slightly falls in love, with another part of the team of course.

4. Eve Kim (She/her)

Eve is a badass and she will kill anyone who says otherwise.

She loves her job as a reaper, although she hates the Government she works for with a deathly passion fuelled from rage that lurks in her heart from her past. 

Eve watched her parents be killed after were openly anti-Government and would hate on the Government in public and online. Her older sister and her were taken in by their aunt but after her sister started to become anti-Government like her parents, her aunt sent her sister away to live with her Godfathers (Who were basically uncles to them both). Eve wanted to see her sister again but with fear that she would be killed, she decided that becoming a Reaper would be an easier way to keep her sister alive rather than going out to look for her.

Eve is a cis lesbian who uses she/her pronouns and can be a bit of a softie when it comes to a certain cottagecore girl.

5. Teddy Horne (He/him)

Teddy, real name Theodore, is a humble dude who grew up in a large family with three siblings, four plus uncle & aunts (On both side), too many cousins and way too many pets (Mostly dogs)

Teddy is a golden retriever, he’s the most loyal person you’ll ever meet but there is something behind that smile.

He’s terrified of losing the ones he loves, he doesn’t want to be alone in the world and he can’t find a romantic relationship to save his life because he’s scared that he will lose them one day. He is a good planner and a great asset when things are going bad.

Teddy is a cis bisexual man who uses he/him pronouns, he currently have no romantic love interests but he has many crushes.

6. Nathaniel/Nathan/Nate Madden (He/they)

Here is Nathaniel, but his friends call them Nathan and VERY close friends call him Nate. 

Nathan is the chaotic one of the group, seriously do not trust this gremlin if you ever see him. He has many problems. Nathan so far with my wip, only has two siblings, a goth sister who is as chaotic as he is and a deaf brother who works as a lawyer with his blind partner.

With Nathan being a reaper, they’re also a Ghostein, a group of people who are able to communicate with the dead. Most Ghosteins have mental health and substance abuse problems and Nathan isn’t any different. He’s trying to be sober but having a bunch of ghosts screaming at you isn’t exactly the best life someone can have.

Nathan is pansexual and genderfluid who uses he/they pronouns, he does fall in love but not with anyone from this time period, you’ll have to go back in time a bit to find their lover. 

7. Aidan Wansell (He/him)

Look at this man and say you don’t want to hug him, he really needs a hug. Such a shame he can’t be hugged seeing as he’s a ghost who died in his first year of being a Reaper.

Yep, Aidan’s a ghost, he doesn’t really mind being a ghost, it’s alright and he can communicate with others is he uses a Ghostein. It’s a shame that the only Ghostein he can talk to is also the one his soul is attached to, Nathan. 

The scar on his face is from his death and he has other scars but he doesn’t like to show them. 

Aidan is a trans acearo man who uses he/him pronouns, he is not interested in dating. He didn’t like to date or do anything when he was alive and he can’t do anything as a ghost so he’s fine.

AND THAT’S IT (SO FAR)

I hope you enjoyed the characters, maybe I’ll make a part two, I am missing a LOT of characters. I would say my favourite characters are Rosalie & Nathan (Although Victor has a place in my heart), I just need to finish their characters with some last names and some other stuff.
