The more confidently certain Murderbot is that no bots have genders or any interest in sex or romance the less likely it sounds. Really? None of them?
Like how bot pilots can only communicate in images?
Or how a human could never really be friends with a bot?
Or how SecUnits are never friends with each other?
It keeps making these sweeping generalisations about things it doesn't have a lot of data outside of its own lived experience to support, and its experience is not universal.
At this point I would not be surprised if Iris hit MB in the face with the revelation that ART hates Holism because they were involved before Holism fucked around and left it for Sum Total.

The Helena diaz of it all has me fascinated. I’ve said for a long while that Eddie’s real issues are his mommy issues and this episode just cemented for me that we’re gonna explore that and deal with it.
Because it’s Helena who forced Eddie to grow up to fast - because her husband wasn’t around much - so she pushed Eddie into de facto parent and husband role ls - selfishly filling her needs and ignoring the damage it was doing to her son (it is a form of abuse in my book).
Eddie then had the audacity to fall in love with and marry Shannon and get her pregnant. It’s why Helena was always so off with Shannon - she was punishing her. She is also punishing Eddie for all of this and his refusal to return to El Paso only cemented further her bitterness and resentment.
Now she does have Ramon back she doesn’t need Eddie any longer to fill that role so she is still punishing him and part of that is tied into her glee over now getting to parent Christopher - something she has always been intent on doing the doppelgänger just gave her the opportunity- as well as allowing her to further punish her son and his love of Shannon.
Her barbed comments about building a pool were all about showing what she can provide Christopher - how she is parenting him better than Eddie - it’s part of her mind games - making Eddie feel like more of a failure as a parent to his son.
The reality of course is that the reverse is true - Helena’s parenting is all superficial, flash and showy - it isn’t the hard day to day parenting when things get tough and you have to be the bad guy. While Eddie has made mistakes, there is nothing superficial, flash, or showy about his parenting. It’s why bucks comments about Eddie being a great dad are so important.
Eddie feel like a failure right now and that he is entirely to blame for everything. But in reality, while he does bear a bit of the responsibility, the truth of the matter is that he needs to learn and deal with the fact that all of it actually stems from Helena and her abuse of her young son - Shannon never stood a chance just like Eddie never has.
#genuinely don’t see how she can get any sort of redemption arc#but this is 911 so maybe they’ll find a way 🤷🏻‍♀️#Helena’s treatment of Eddie is a form of child abuse - it has done so much damage to him psychologically#I do really hope we finally get to meet Sophia and adriana as part of this arc beciase I think it might be very revealing#I am also wondering if Ramon had a stache in the past - and that is what Eddie is subconsciously trying to mimic#and that is about him trying to regain his mothers affection - trying to fill that husband role she forced him into#and that shaving it off is a part of his dealing with that and choosing to free himself from her clutches#and in doing that - standing up for himself etc - it will be the trigger that v ring schristopher back#the catholic guilt and Eddie’s queerness is also all tied up in this - the church reinforces and condones Helena and her actions#the Catholic Church has a long history of abuse of children in all it’s horrendous forms#so Eddie seeking solace in that direction think it will help him find away back to Helena’s good books only for it to open a few doors he#has bolted shut#as for the queer aspect - forcing Eddie to grow up too fast and fill this role of husband to his mother and parent to his siblings means#Eddie never got the chance to learn who he actually is - to explore his sexuality and all that goes with that - at the age one normally#would - as a teenager and into your 20’s. it explains so much around his relationship with Shannon and dealing with the helana of it all#and the queerness of his identity - will also allow him to actually let Shannon go#Eddie’s arc is going to be incredible - heartbreaking and gut wrenching - but incredible#Helena diaz it’s on sight - she is evil and cannot be redeemed in my eyes!#911 spoilers#Thinky thoughts#eddie diaz#911 abc

Jason Todd's timeline and "Age"
So, there's a lot of discussion of Jason Todd's age esp as relative to other sidekick vigilantes, particularly Tim and Mia. I believe the exact words are usually something about a "grown ass man beating up/trying to kill teenagers."
DISCLAIMER: This particular post is specifically regarding the "grown ass man vs teenagers" statement, I have posts regarding the "tried to kill them" portion and other stuff like "seriously Jason Todd is like being shot by a marshmallow gun compared to what goes on directly before and after him in these incidents, also you don't bitch about the right stuff, also a lot of you prop up characters who are Objectively Worse, and no that's not hate on your fave it's just me calling out hypocrisy". It just takes time to find digital copies of the panels I'm using. NOTE I AM NOT JUSTIFYING HIS ACTIONS. I'm just saying y'all blow it out of proportion for petty character hate. Like, shit, they're superheroes. Jason's soooo fuckin' tame. He's not even framed as a big deal to the teens it's only the adults that think it's that much of a problem.
Courtesy readmore post cut:
Now, to start off, we all know Jason died at 15 & a few months off from 16 (if you want me to dig up panels, sure, but I figured at this point that wasn't in question). Tim at this point is somewhere between 12-13, and we have this panel in Lonely Place of Dying which takes place a few months later:
Tumblr media
So that's a ballpark of 2-3 years between Jason and Tim.
But Tim's age is really fucky and they keep de-aging him tbh. We can extrapolate that his confrontation with Jason was between the ages of 16-17 bcs it's after the arc where he has his incredibly shitty 16th birthday in Robin Vol2 #116 and before Red Robin where he's stated to be 17. This would put Jason between 18-19 at the time. (If you really want me to find panel sources for Tim's birthday and his age in RR then, sure, but I don't think they're necessary. I used it more as a guidepost for Jason's age, since we have a clear idea of what the age gap is.)
At least, on paper.
Mia for her part I've had a hard time finding like, on panel mentions of her age and if anyone can direct me to it being explicitly stated I'd love that. I'm rereading old comics but it's a LOT of comics to hunt down & dig through. To my understanding she was fifteen when Ollie first met her, and there's at Minimum of about a year and a half between that to her meeting Red Hood, more likely at least two? because there's at least few months between that and her joining the Titans, the Doctor Light stuff, then One Year Later, and then returned to Star some 3 months after Ollie came back to run for mayor? And then Jason not too long after. So, two years feels safe. Puts her at 17-ish, Jason at 19-20
Once again, I specify: on paper.
People would happily point out at this point that the upward stretch of a 4 year age gap is a "huge gap in maturity." And yeah, under normal circumstances, I'd agree.
But, and this is going to get contradictory bcs I found Two different timelines (BOTH written by Winick, lmao), and depending on how you read it it could be up to three different possibilities. Let's Start with Batman Annual #25: Daedalus & Icarus.
Timestamp before Jason's resurrection, which is pretty well known at this point:
Tumblr media
Next, him waking up from a coma afterwards, when he escapes the hospital:
Tumblr media
Now the above could be interpreted as either 1 year after he died if we're assuming that it's using the same "start" point to count as the resurrection (unlikely), or one year after he came back (more likely).
Next, the timestamp right before a guy recognizes him and sells him out:
Tumblr media
And, finally, the timestamp before being put in the Pit:
Tumblr media
That is, count it up, between 3-3 1/2 years where Jason was dead, in a coma, or otherwise not particularly... cognizant of the world around him. His ass is NOT developing emotionally, socially, or mentally like this, which pretty handily bridges the gaps there. Taken at face value, Jason's maturity level is going to be, unironically, younger than Tim's in the wake of these setbacks.
Now, if we go to Lost Days issue 1, it doesn't specify how long he was dead, nor how long he was in a coma, so we'll just carry those two over, what we DO have is this from just after Talia brought him home:
Tumblr media
This puts him as being on the streets for five months, so we're at just shy of two years so far. And then we have this:
Tumblr media
Which is right before Talia puts him in the Pit.
So, in summary: 6 months dead, 1 year coma, 5 months on the street, and something like 1-1 1/2 years with the League which...
Actually puts us on almost the exact same timeframe either way. 3 to 3 1/2 years. It just changes whether Jason was on the streets or with the League for longer.
And is utterly incomprehensible because comic timelines are a freaking nightmare.
If we're being generous, then that would put Jason at a minimum of 19, maybe toeing the line of 20 for UTRH, again, on paper, because like hell are you convincing me he did less than a year's worth of training abroad throughout Lost Days. Yeah maybe they trained him in fighting while he was catatonic, muscle memory and all that. But the other teachers that we KNOW of? The bombs, guns, probably something to get him up to date on handling all that tech we see him using, Egon, potentially arguably All-Caste if you want to draw from n52...
but you'd have to knock at least a year and a half off of his internal/personal development from death & coma, at minimum. Maybe you could argue he was somewhat developing while in his "the lights are on, but nobody's home" phase, you can't say it's at the same level as a normal person might when going about their day to day life, and it's difficult to measure. But he's not hitting the kind of milestones that he should be for his age. I wouldn't put him at anything less than two years behind. So if we use our upper estimates on Jason, and lower estimates on both the developmental setbacks and Tim/Mia's ages that gives us:
Jason toeing 20, mentally 18, fighting Tim at 16. 2 year gap, kind of stretching the physical age gap if we assume Tim had just barely turned 13 when he showed up to be Robin. - OR LESS
Jason maybe 21, mentally 19, fighting Mia at 17, two year age gap again. Honestly, still not that big of a difference - OR LESS
And, to be frank, that's not even counting the mental development issues that come from the intense physical trauma from dying - and I swear to fuck don't give me the "He's not the only one who died he's not special" speech.
HOW MANY OF THE OTHERS YOU'RE USING AS A GOTCHA LOST, *GESTURING AGGRESSIVELY ABOVE*, LITERALLY MULTIPLE YEARS OF THEIR LIFE.
Not counting adults, of course. Barry lost years, Hal lost years, Ollie I think also lost a couple years? but A) they came back still adults, bodies pretty much the same. B) While Jason's body didn't go through a magic growth spurt in canon, it did still grow esp while with the League.
I'll eventually get around to Titan's Tower & GA#72 (tbh, there are other people who've already done Titan's Tower and it'd probably be better than what I do, so I'm more going to focus on the latter, but there IS a specific part of the former that drives me nuts that I don't see brought up a lot), and maybe if we're feeling spicy all my issues with UTRH starting with how Winick is just as guilty of retroactively writing Jason as being inherently a bad penny since his Robin days as any of the other "modern" writers. Like, bud, Severe enough Head Trauma is legitimately enough to change someone's personality, not to mention trauma. It wouldn't hurt your narrative for that eerie difference, the Shade of What Once Was if you're really going for RH being Like that.
Final addition: I swear to god if you use my post to start up some kind of petty-ass ship war or flame other characters I will immediately turn off reblogs and replies I am Not Dealing With That Shit, please and thank you.
Anyways, @glitter-stained, your interest made me decide to actually put the work in now to pull it up rather than passively gather stuff to dump whenever discourse pushes me over the edge so, here ya are. Looks like you did have it closer on the mark than I did.

Colonialism Apologetics? In MY Space Mecha Kids TV Show? MORE LIKELY THAN U THINK
I will soon #discuss this but for now I'm just pissed off by it like really TV show? REALLY?
Wait also this is totally unrelated but I am still thinking about the Voltron Show episode where like I really do think they could've stumbled upon something interesting about 1: the fact that the Paladins suddenly become these like. Objects. Symbolically speaking. And then to the resistance movement there is a tension because they're not actually like. Doing shit. But then the paladins themselves feel objectified
Idk like there's so many things that you could do there that would be pretty doable to handle for the audience and keeping the tone of the show! Have Shiro feel uncomfortable with the Shiro The Hero [TM] persona because it reminds him too much of the Champion!
Have the rebels like in the Blade of Marmalade or Olkarion or other rebel outposts (which we barely even see because the show dgaf about the people fighting for freedom jfc) feeling some kinda way about it! A FUCKING MARVEL MOVIE DID THIS!!!! THAT'S HOW SIMPLE THIS IS TO DO!!! (I watched the first Captain America movie for the first time last night. It is extremely simple and very pro military. BUT IT UNDERSTANDS HOW TO DO WHAT IT NEEDS TO DO)
Like idk have Loverboy Lance be tied to Lance's own insecurities about what he brings to the team AND the war– have him feel some kind of way about being portrayed like that as MORE than just jokes!
Don't even get me started on Hunk this fucking show is so awful to Hunk
HAVE ALLURA REALLY GET TO GRIPS WITH THE FACT THAT SHE'S GOT TO PLAY A GUY WHO SHE IS BOTH VERY SIMILAR TO AND ALSO HE IS PART-GALRA, THE SAME GALRA WHO KILLED HER PEOPLE! IT'S A REASONABLE HESITANCY TO HAVE! IDK! IT JUST PISSES ME OFF MAN THERE'S SO MANY THINGS THIS SHOW COULD DO BUT DOESN'T
#voltron#liveblogging voltron#voltron legendary defender#liveblogging#vld#princess allura#allura#allura deserves better lowkey bc the way they were like “Oh she should fall for the space colonizer who lowkey fetishizes her culture”#They said “Yeah he wants to revise her people's history to fit her needs and she's INTO HIM” like stfu it is not even a little convincing#AND AND AND the way they just. Eradicate Olkarion and then PRETEND IT'S A NEW BEGINNING#prince lotor#vld lotor#lotor#Lotor pisses me off as a character bc he is so obviously flawed#Like he has this whole idealized version of what his role is#Like when he's like “I worked WITH the people we colonized” HOMIE YOU STILL COLONIZED THEM#THE FACT THAT THERE WERE COLLABORATORS TO YOUR REGIME DOESNT UNDO THAT#So help me god it would be a GOOD THING for a character to be like this BUT THE NARRATIVE REINFORCES IT#THEY NEVER BOTHER TO QUESTION IT#And again I am just. Like the fact is it would've BALLED OUT to question Voltron's role#“This superweapon has aligned itself with the colonial empire's status quo” AND THEY DON'T DO ANYTHING WITH THAT?#THE DOMESTIC TERRORISM ORGANIZATION GOT NEUTERED SO HARD TOO LIKE THE BLADES OF MARMALADE WERE REVOLUTIONARY ONCE#This show does NAWT care about revolution or liberation which like. WHY WRITE ABOUT A SPACE COLONIAL DOWNFALL WHEN YOU DON'T CARE#All those alien planets they allegedly free WE LEARN NOTHING#WHO ARE THEY#I WANT TO KNOW#Putting my headloss in the tags because I'm spiraling over this shit fr#keith kogane#lance mcclain#vld lance

The moment that made Bruce the man he is today was the moment his parents were murdered in the alley. He thinks that that moment for Tim had or will have to do with the deaths of his parents as well, like it was for him, for Dick, for Jason, all children whose lives were changed forever by tragedy. He doesn't realize that that moment for Tim was a decade ago at Haly's Circus.
Bruce thinks that he and his mission are the poison, that prolonged exposure will eventually drag Tim down into the darkness he resides in (or worse, like it did to Jason). He thinks of the child he once was, remembers that he became the Bat so that no other child might be suffer that same loss, that same transformation that he has. He doesn't realize that Tim's path was set from the very first day he can remember.
Tim doesn't know how to be any different. How to be anything other than a boy who deduced Batman's secret identity by accident. A boy whose heroes inspired him to become a detective, to pick up computer skills, to learn to fight. A boy who cared enough about two strangers at the circus to risk his life for them a decade later.
Becoming Robin was just the culmination. Becoming Robin is when everything that made Tim Tim started to make sense. The night in the alley was the night Bruce’s life changed, but that night at the circus was the night Tim’s life began.

it's a big thing for us to say Logan fell first and he fell harder because Wade falls fast. Very fast very obviously to someone attuned to his tells. At the time that he learned to care for Logan, Logan wasn't attuned yet.
It's a bold statement to say Logan fell first because that's suggesting he learned to care for Wade even faster than Wade learned to care for him in vice versa.

thinking about shouto todoroki and this line from season five of miraculous ladybug: “the love you have for your friends isn’t divided; it’s multiplied!”
i think as someone who grew up without friends (much like kagami) that line and that revelation overall would hit very hard for him. i imagine it’s difficult sometimes for him not to view love as a nonrenewable resource, but. time and time again, his friends prove that it isn’t. they love him and continue to love him no matter what.
#i’m going to lie and say this isn’t coming from a place of personal learning#but i just rewatched that episode the other day and it really hit me hard#for one reason or another (or a lot of them) i have a tendency to view love as something… consumable? i guess? like a battery#it can be drained and depleted. inevitably i think i end up feeling like if someone loves someone else a lot#then they must love me less to compensate#and i’m just now starting to understand that that. isn’t necessarily true. but i’ve lived my entire life having that belief internalized#and being given proof in some way that it was true. it’s really really hard to unlearn y’know?#i had a lot of experiences as a kid where it was reinforced that you could only have one best friend at a time#and if you made other friends well then you could never love them as much as your best friend. in fact you shouldn’t and if you do#then obviously you don’t love your best friend that much. and man is that a really messed up set of beliefs to instill in a small child#my biggest problem now as an adult is trying to comprehend how that can be false y’know? it seems so unfathomable to me that an alternative#could exist and be true. i never know how to equate those words and actions and it gets so impossibly confusing to try#but i am grateful for my friends. i am so grateful for them. i love them so much. i’m trying to understand their love for me.#and i hope they know how grateful i am that they continue to stick around as i figure it out#bnha#mha#my hero academia#boku no hero academia#shouto todoroki#mlb#miraculous ladybug#kagami tsurugi#<- they’re the same your honor. sorry. the perfectionism and isolation speaks to me#kats rambles#kats rambles in tags

Was just thinking about the amount of animals Obi-Wan interacts with compared to literally everyone else and in the Clone Wars episode where Kamino gets attacked he literally gets saved twice by the same ray-like animal and just...
The growth from judging Qui-Gon for the 'pathetic lifeforms' he picks up to whatever he has going on during the Clone Wars era. He must have gotten that from Qui-Gon though, right?
And because it's my brain and it's rotting with all the star wars stuff I am consuming I was thinking of Obi-Wan saving all these creatures and the 212th having to deal with that. Surely they made one of the rooms pet proof in case one of them needs a new home. There also have to be clones who love that because of course Obi-Wan can't really take care of rescues on top of all his duties.
After the first few times this happens Cody learns to order animal food and other necessities. And if the Republic doesn't fulfill these requests or asks too many questions he'll just have to make sure to organize them on planet during the campaigns.

sometimes i overshare on here as a form of exposure therapy to make me less afraid of talking about my feelings and my desires bc i spent so long not being able to voice them that i never learned how to do it. and even though this isn't necessarily the best place to be like "hey guys i went to Sex Therapy" it's also like. necessary to say that somewhere given that for a month after i got referred by the gender clinic i was ashamed and embarrassed to admit to mySELF that i even got the referral. so. you know. it's part of the process of unlearning shame and normalising this stuff for myself. sorry for using youse as my therapy. i will continue to do this

lmao I think I reached the tag limit on tumblr for the first time EVER and you'll never guess that it was because I was trying to hash out my thoughts on the veil staying up in da4 😂
this is why before the game came out I had narrowed things down to two potential directions the veil plot could go #option one was the veil stays up and thus the story is about healing from grief and putting down burdens#this option assumes that the veil does need to stay up #it treats the veil narratively as a new but essential part of the world #option two is the veil comes down but through a better option #in this option the story is about trusting people and finding a new better path #it assumes the veil is an artificial construct that is hostile to nature #(this is the brief version distilled into tags but like you get the picture) #As much as I really wanted option two #I knew we'd probably get option one#because actually taking the veil down would radically change the setting in dramatic ways #In this option I also assumed that the veil would eventually come down on its own anyway #thus the necessity of a better way to take it down #my main issue with option one (veil stays up) is that it doesnt contend with the harm the veil does to spirits #or the fact that the veil is inherently an artificial construct #and after the game came out and actually gave us option one (veil stays up) #turns out it also doesn't do the best job of contending with what happens next #like okay Solas is the only person keeping the Veil up #but all the Evanuris dying off is what was making it so weak #so like what's the long term plan here like how weak is the veil when it's only sustained by one person
anyway the gist of the tags that got yeeted into the void:
In Trespasser Solas tells us that his plan would basically wipe out everyone and everything, that our world would burn in the raw chaos in order for him to save his. But in Veilguard, he tells us that he created enough precautions that only a few thousand people would die (still a lot! but worth noting that at least that many people died anyway as a result of the Blight and the Evanuris escaping).
So basically, with this canon knowledge -- who's to say there wasn't a way to take down the Veil with ZERO causalities? The move from "the world burns in the raw chaos" to "a couple thousand die" is a pretty significant difference. Maybe there could have been a way to keep refining the plan, creating more precautions. Idk. Veilguard wasn't interested in exploring that.
All this to say, Solas being the sole person keeping the Veil up seems unsustainble to me (and it is weird narratively - like the point is that he ISN'T a god?). It's also like...how weak is the Veil now with one person sustaining it? How is he supposed to sustain it FOREVER? What does that narratively say about our ideas of redemption and forgiveness? I don't really have the answers but it certainly raises those questions for me.
