National Junk Food Day
Junk foods are usually, by definition, high in fats, sugars, salt, and calories. But more often than not, they are delicious! Junk food day is the perfect day to treat yourself. On Junk Food Day, you get to eat anything you want. Eat any amounts that you want, too. Tomorrow, however, it’s back to a healthy diet.
It doesn’t have to be candies either. Like bacon? Eat so much bacon! Like chili cheese dogs? Eat all the dogs you want. Onion rings, yes please. Pizza? Have it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Junk Food Day is all about indulging in your favorites.
Please Note: Junk food may be hazardous to your health. After all, mom knows what’s best for you. Do so at your own risk. That risk includes having too much and Mom saying: “I told you so!”
Learn about Junk Food Day
Junk Food Day is a day that allows you to chow down on the foods that you usually would not. Junk foods, by their definition, tend to contain a lot of calories, salt, sugar, and fats, and they offer very nutritional value. You may think that it doesn’t do anyone any favors to have a day that is dedicated to junk food.
However, if you follow a healthy and balanced diet, there is nothing wrong with having one day of the year whereby you can eat anything that you want to. In fact, this is encouraged, because it means that you are more likely to eat healthily the rest of the time, right? Of course, it is up to you whether or not you decide to fully embrace Junk Food Day, but we know that we will be!
History of Junk Food Day
Upon searching for the history behind this food filled day, we found no information on the origin of this day. It was most likely created by a diet conscious individual or group who desired to eat junk food, without guilt, at least one day a year, sounds like a great idea to me. For it to become a “national” day it requires an act of congress. I don’t mind celebrating it anyway.
But, what about junk food? When did this start to come into our lives? Well, this coincides with the advent of packaged foods throughout the late 1900s. Of course, for decades, home-cooked meals were still the standard. However, after WW2, junk food really started to take off.
The population was traveling more and eating out more, and this resulted in fast food chains and the frozen food aisle really taking off. There were so many different foods for people to choose from. However, it was not until the 1970s that junk food started to get a bad name. This was when microbiologist, Michael Jacobson, actually coined the phrase. His aim was to try and curb our appetite for high preservative, high salt, and high sugar foods, which we were eating at a worrying rate.
Since then, there has been more knowledge and information about junk food, and a lot of food manufacturers have tried to make healthy versions of the junk food that we love the most! Nevertheless, if you have junk food now and again yet you generally maintain a healthy diet, it should not do you any harm! After all, we all deserve a treat now and again, right?
How to celebrate Junk Food Day
Celebrate this wonderful day by eating any sweet or salty treats you want! Bake cupcakes, make cookies, heat up some popcorn, buy some of your favorite candies. Invite friends over and have them bring in their favorites and make a junk food buffet and spend the rest of the day watching movies. You can always go get some fast food for fun. Take a cheat day from your diet and have dessert for dinner.
Consider trying some junk foods from other countries. Japan has a particular talent for making fun candy that you have to mix together. Look online to see if you can order special treats for the day. To name a few for you Korea has Cheong Woo Pumpkin Candy.
The Ukraine has Mr. Fizzy, a small hard candy that fizzes in your mouth. Columbia has Jet chocolates, a package of chocolates that also comes with a dinosaur sticker. Japan has Unican Mikita Melon Milk candy, a chewy candy with melon flavor. In Spain they have Violetas, sugar coated natural violets. In Poland they have a crunchy wafer-chocolate bar called Prince Polo made by Olza.
Another way that you can celebrate junk food is by creating your own versions of your favorite snacks. For example, instead of heading down to KFC, why not try making your own southern fried chicken? There are lots of great recipes online for junk food nowadays. In fact, you will see that there are some weird and wonderful creations, including different and unusual burger recipes and much more!
You may also want to decide to spend Junk Food Day with your friends. Why not host a junk food party? You can tell your friends that everyone has to bring carby and fatty foods. There are no green leafy foods allowed! Enjoy the day and indulge together. After all, it’s not like it is something that we all get to do all of the time, is it? So, you may as well make the most of it and indulge in those naughty foods. We won’t tell anyone!

You know what’s the worst during summer? Turning on your oven. As if you aren’t shvitzing enough already, oh sure, let’s turn on the oven to make dinner and make the house 20 degrees warmer.
Crockpot cooking might seem more like a winter essential, but actually throwing dinner into your crockpot is a lot easier, and a lot cooler, then turning on that oven. So don’t break a sweat — let your crockpot be your secret to staying cool this summer, for weeknight cooking and even Shabbat! Here’s some favorite recipes to try:
Slow Cooker Cilantro Lime Chicken Tacos from Belle of the Kitchen
Lettuce Wrap Pulled Beef Tacos with Guacamole
Easy Whole Chicken in a Slow Cooker from The Kitchn
Crockpot Tomato Sauce
Slow Cooker Hawaiian Chicken from Lemon Tree Dwelling (substitute olive oil for butter)
Latin-Inspired Vegetarian Cholent
Crockpot Root Beer BBQ Drumsticks from The Frugal Girls
Easy Slow Cooker Barbecue Brisket from Simply Scratch
Israeli-Inspired Crockpot Stuffed Peppers
And for Dessert:

I have no excuses.
Ate my soup and some shrimp & cocktail sauce, and worked out, like the good girl I am.
Buuuut I went to trader Joe's and fresh market afterward (its been a while and I wanted to find hemp or flax milk), and I ended up with quite a haul! ((((Including 2 chocolate bars, a pint of gelato that's made with ricotta cheese, trader Joe's brand hot cheetos, two bottles of chickfila sauce, etc etc))))
HOWEVER, I did get my flax milk lol. Hopefully it's good idk. I like regular milk and have no dairy issues, but still feel like it's not good for me and that maybe it's damaging me in ways I can't recognize
Anyways, I made technically 2 servings of soup, since I used 2 cups of bone broth, but I threw in a ton of veggies I had on hand. Ingredients:
☆ kettle & fire turmeric ginger chicken bone broth
☆ fresh spinach
☆ fresh tomato
☆ fresh zucchini
☆ frozen kale
☆ frozen California blend (cauliflower, carrots, broccoli)
☆ garlic & onion powder, ranch seasoning, chili lime seasoning
And I made zoodles with 1 zucchini, tri-colored grape tomatoes, parmesan and pasta sauce ♡ definitely something I can eat multiple times a week. And yeah, does anything beat real pasta? No, but this is straight up magic.
Second pic is the sushi I stocked up on, which I DEFINITELY have to eat asap so they don't spoil. And since I'm a straight up simp for all Mac & cheese, I decided to check out trader Joe's brand. Hope it doesn't disappoint!
Some other extra stuff I got:
Jack fruit BBQ "pulled pork"
Ollipop brand strawberry vanilla & root beer sparkling tonic
Petit pot vanilla bean French pudding aka my kryptonite that I say I wanna recreate so I stop paying $3 for z 3 oz glass of pudding
Chicken potstickers 🤤
Cookie butter
Hemp hearts (on sale lucky me bc I've been wanting to get them for extra fiber)
So yeah I have ‼️ ZERO ‼️ excuses to get fast food bc these photos prove that I'm good for at least the next few days lol

Make Way For The King
Tumblr media
Oni Lee met Lung at the Tex-Mex BBQ restaurant on the corner of Kirby and 62nd. The quiet assassin exited the armored Hummer with three veteran ABB members and a younger recruit. Lee pointed the teen at the bike and instructed him to take it back to Warehouse Row.
The three older, scarred gang members entered the restaurant, the other customers looked at them warily then slowly they looked towards the window table where Lung sat with a spread of ribs, brisket, whole bbq chickens, roasted rice and cheese stuffed bell peppers, and other side dishes.
The unmasked leader made a series of gestures at the restaurant manager and the woman nodded before disappearing into the back of the house. Lung gestured at the five empty seats that encircled the roundtable that his crew took readily. Oni Lee blinked inside of the restaurant right beside Lung and took the empty seat to his left.
The members ate in silence as the manager brought two pitchers of beer and a pitcher of ice water. Once the manager left after distributing glasses, the thin, soul patch guy spoke up.
"Lung, Lee, wanna put it out there that I'm glad y'all made it out safe from tangling with The Protectorate during your escape."
Lung said nothing but Oni Lee pulled a half eaten chicken leg out from under his lifted mask and pointed it at him in acknowledgement.
Soul Patch continued, "The boys been keeping to your orders recruiting from the vocational, technical, and high schools. We've already retrofitted some of the abandoned motels and hotels across the Docks into barracks and the parking structures into training arenas. I gotta say the recruits are getting antsy since they haven't seen a woman in days, could we take them to one of our-"
Lung shook his head no.
"Or - or we bring some pros to the manager offices as an incentive for, I dunno, top marks or improvement?"
Their leader gave a quick thumbs up and took a long drink of ice water. Oni Lee made a gesture for the men to continue. The large partially balding member put his beer down and started in.
"Speaking of Pros, The Skin Joint has been losing dancers and third floor workers for the past two weekends. I remember when we stocked the third floor with girls fresh off the bus and boats and losing them to the competition wasn't a thing."
Lee held up a finger as he chewed and swallowed, "Unfortunate as change is, it is preferred the workers know how to please the customers. Fortunately, today Bakuda has taken the initiative to root out the issue and will deal with it."
Lung spoke aloud, "And the girl's training?"
"She insisted your Girl will come along to learn about this aspect of the organization, Lung."
Baldie piped up, "Hey, Lung, like are these broads new Top Dogs or something? Cuz typically Oni Lee here deals with hitches in the day-to-day stuff."
"Do you question my judgment in recruitment? I remember Chao and his crew were brought in because you were plowing his mother."
"Hey, no offense, Lung. I was just asking, but it was Chao's grandmother. And she's sure broken up about what happened but she's young, she'll end up with more grand sons in no time."
Lee pierced a stuffed pepper with a knife and gestured at the third member. Half the hair on their head was shaved off and the other half was long and straight trailing down to the small of their back.
"The Empire is cutting into our legitimate holdings in our territories since we made our presence known at the schools. Figure it's mostly a money grab instead of a declaration of war since a bunch of their rental properties was burned down. FYI, this is round the time a couple of Z grade capes bought it. Otherwise cash flow is still good from dope and skin especially since we got a ton of out of towners buying both since they held the political conventions recently before the coming Election."
"Mm, you are correct that is good but it could be better without the interference. The Empire I've already personally challenged and Kaiser did not even say no himself, the coward sent his women to decline. Alert local police forces that trespassers are in our holdings, spread out the calls over the course of the next two weeks", Lung ordered.
"Call the cops to evict the Empire? Okay, sure thing", They replied.
"You sound displeased with the solution."
"Cops to get rid of something we can do by rousting them ourselves? It sounds slow and invites the police to keep tabs on our neighborhoods again."
Oni Lee polished off a pitcher and waved the empty vessel in the air above the table, the manager once again disappearing into the back of the restaurant, "The Police have every reason to avoid the neighborhoods we control, but if invited to do their job for a legitimate crime against citizens, it'll remind Kaiser's guys that they are just trading one enemy for another."
"Oh, they fuck over the cops then Wards or Protectorate show up - escalation."
"Exactly."
Soul Patch leaned over and whispered to Baldie.
Lung raised an eyebrow, "If you have personal business to discuss leave or let it be known now."
Soul Patch hesitated and Baldie went for it, a gleam in his eye made Lung lower his brow, "Lung, boss, with all the respect. I gotta ask you been spending a lotta time at the Grease Monkeys' place. What gives?"
Lung's mood soured, "As said a new Lieutenant is being groomed for serv-"
"Aww, yeah, I bet", Soul Patch interjected.
"Leave."
"Ah- fuck", Soul Patch looked around the table and stumbled away as soon as Lung's hand drifted towards his mask.
"For the rest of you, Bakuda is overseeing Girl's integration into the ABB. You'll be officially introduced once she has chosen her true identity. Until then, make it known no one is to even attempt to touch her, understood?"
The two remaining members nodded and stood up to leave, "Is that all, boss?"
"Go, you have your instructions."
The two members each waved as they exited the restaurant, catching the attention of ABB lookouts and within a minute a car appeared for each, spiriting them away in different directions.
Lee pulled a wad of bills from a pouch on his bandolier and counted off several hundred dollars. When the manager returned with a fresh pitcher of beer the still masked man slipped them the cash.
"For all the meals. I will not be using this location again for any further meetings so do not expect any more disturbances such as this", Lung explained before both men left the table.
In the back seat of the limo Lung looked at his man and groused, "This is far too much, Lee."
The demon masked man gestured at the built in bar and TV console set in the sidewall of the luxury vehicle, "A member's family runs a car service, they offered this as a tribute for continued protection. Besides, the brothers are still repairing the damages to their garage facilities."
"Point taken."
"The question at lunch was valid, Lung. You're grooming Girl, you continue to declare her off limits despite very little interaction with the boys, but you don't touch her."
Lung grunted in response.
"I'm not bothered by you and Bakuda, while we're on the topic. My loyalty is to you. I just find her constant stream of thought - she's very much alive. She knows what she wants. Pursuing you was not unexpected and I do like seeing her work towards her goals."
Lung chuckled quietly, "A warning the next time you know she is going to try something. I would prefer to be advised in advance."
"Of course, Lung."
Lee knocked on the glass partition behind his head, and blinked into the passenger seat next to the driver, while his duplicate gestured at the minibar. Lung waved the offer off as he felt the vehicle careen for a moment then right itself.
Oni Lee reappeared by the bar, the duplicate finished breaking down, and began mixing himself a drink, "We're heading towards The Skin Joint and almost there now".
"Good. Appearances must be kept despite the push we're about to make."
The car slowed down as several detonations rocked the vehicle. Oni Lee's shoulders sank as he downed his drink and fixed his mask back into place. The glass collapsed onto the floor as he had already teleported out of the car joining the fray.
Lung stepped out of the car and a massive bolt of white lightning passed near his head. His eyes followed the stream of electricity and plasma watched it bounce off a car hood, scorching it, and came flying right back at him. He dropped flat on his back on the street and slammed the side of the stretch car twice, the driver nearly backed over its passenger. The bolt tore the side mirror off the vehicle.
Lung threw himself forward and up, getting himself back to his feet. He strode forward, fists aflame, his skin bristling with the edges of scales ready to burst forth. Another explosion, this time inside the adult theater next to The Skin Joint, had Bakuda crashing through the blacked out glass doorway.
His scales burst through his skin and the sound of his muscles and bone breaking and mending with growth could be heard over the crackle of flames. Bakuda picked herself up, her armor smoked and scorched, "Fuck, that bitch!"
"WHO?!" Lung bellowed.
Bakuda drew a grenade from her belt and depressed a button on its side then hurled it above her head.
"Raza, she's a reject from the Herren Clan, Empire wannabe."
The grenade hung in the air for a second longer than expected before detonating and filling the air with metallic dust.
"Third Wheel, when she zips into the chaff cloud, spray her down", Bakuda instructed.
Lung looked around and couldn't find his Girl. His right fist produced steam. He turned, looked up and found her standing on a rooftop across the street. Beside just peeking over the edge sat an old blue plastic rain barrel. With last night's rain she should have plenty for the attack.
Bakuda dashed behind Lung and he felt the hairs on the back of his neck stand up. Raza's breaker form shot out of the theater it was heading again for Lung's head but as it neared the hanging cloud of dust it was drawn up into it as arcs of energy licked away from her form leaving her stranded in the air.
A continuous spray of water bombarded the cape and the snaps and pops of the energy discharging as her body was coated with water filled his ears. When the last shudder of energy discharged the blonde woman's body dropped to the pavement.
^•v•^
Inside the club, up in the Manager's office Lung sat on a plush red couch watching Oni Lee ease the bound cape into a half full rain barrel. Girl gave him a crooked smile while she shut off the sink at the wet bar and made her way near the Barrel.
"Wake her up, and be ready Girl if she tries anything", Lung ordered.
Bakuda wearing thick black rubber gloves shoved the woman's shoulder's down. Girl collected the slosh of water that almost hit the ground and fed it back into the sink. With Raza's head submerged, it was moments before she started struggling but Bakuda refused to let her up right away. Lung snapped his fingers and Bakuda let her up.
The dirty blonde gasped and sputtered, then Bakuda shoved her back under. This repeated until Lung witnessed his Girl start to sweat, eyes wide and frantic as the captive struggled on and on.
"Enough. Let her up, I have questions."
Bakuda backed off and the girl shot up and caught her wrists and chin on the barrel's lip.
"With our point being made. We know your weakness, Raza. Now you will tell me everything about your presence in my establishment."
A minute or so passed in silence as the captive calmed. Oni Lee took the gloves from Bakuda and approached the barrel.
"Okay! Okay! I just been working here, waitressing, dancing, lil bit of the VIP stuff. That's all", Raza insisted as she scratched at a bandage on the side of her neck.
"Lies."
"Alright alright, I sellin' meth to some of the other girls. I need the cash, momma's sick n' all."
"Lies."
"Eh eh, no, just withholding details. Fine, I get word from fam in town that Hookwolf needs some side entertainment at his Saturday night dog fights. So I tell some of the girls he needs ringside girls to hold cards and tease the crowds. Which is a lie. But they're pros, they know ass makes cash."
"And? They do not return after."
"Hooky got a temper. Customers think it's a petting zoo, things get rough, girls get defensive, suddenly today's china doll is tomorrow's puppy chow. Shit happens."
"And you don't care that they're not making it out alive?", Girl asked.
Raza backed away from the edge of the barrel and shrugged, "I mean, Uncle Adolf might have made some of your grandparents honorary Aryans but look at you, you're miscegenated. Not even pure anymore. No, I don't feel sorry."
Lung considered her words for a long moment, "So you attacked my Lieutenants because?"
She reached up with her bound hands and scratched her nose, "'Unno, got nervous?"
The Girl mouthed the word, 'Wow'.
"Who else knows you worked here?"
"Just Hooky's door guys, I got all those girls in safely after all."
"Alright, we're done here", Lung waved off Raza.
Oni Lee tossed a towel across the woman's head.
"Fuck, thank y-", the barrel shuddered as the bomb implanted under the bandage on the side of her neck detonated.
Girl collected the blood and water before it splattered everyone and everything in the room. Oni Lee sealed Girl's collection and the body inside the barrel with a round locking lid.
The Lieutenants looked to their leader as he stood up, "Kaiser won't care about his minion's side hustles, so they will be lightly defended if at all. Bakuda and Girl will pose as Raza's last lead, and break up the ring."
"I haven't even started her suit yet!"
"You have until Saturday night, that's the next dog fight. Informants will get us the time and location, but you two must be ready by then."
Petit stood tall and bowed to Lung, "We will be. I trust Bakuda's skill and was proud to fight alongside her today."
"Fuck it, it'll get done, Lung", Bakuda acquiesced.
"Perfect, call the car service to take you home. I must speak to Miss Skin, advise her on what's to be done about staffing here."
Bakuda snorted, "Yeah huh, sure. Let's go, Little Mermaid. Boss is on a roll."

Okay! Slow cooker pulled pork:
1. pork (either tenderloin or a roast, just not chops, it needs to be a big chunk of meat)
2. the big bottle of root beer
3. 1 bottle of bbq sauce, any will do though i often so for one that is like chicken or rib - but pick your fav.
This recipe is for if you have a slow cooker (which if you don’t - invest in one people can regularly be found at walmart or target for under 40 dollars lets you not heat up your home in the summer, great for making leftovers etc)
In the morning put the meat in the slow cooker. Cover in the root beer and set on low.
30-45 minutes before you want to eat drain the root beer. use forks to break up the meat it will just fall apart.
Pour over the bottle of bbq sauce and let it stay on low until you are ready to eat.
Serve of buns (if you can get pretzel buns amazing) and with coleslaw or whatever sides you like with bbq.
If you have leftovers put them in the fridge or freezer because it continues to make great sandwiches or also really killer nachos.

Easy Slow Cooker Recipes
The slow cooker can be a life saver on busy days. Here are some of my favorite slow cooker recipes that are super easy to prepare and taste delicious. The whole family will enjoy these recipes.
There’s something for everyone here: chicken, pork, pasta, and chili. Most of these recipes only take a few minutes of prep time.
Slow Cooker Creamy Tuscan Chicken is the richest, creamiest crockpot meal you will ever eat. And it is so simple to make. This recipe uses jarred Alfredo sauce to cut down on prep time.
Slow Cooker White Chicken Chili is so creamy and rich. Perfect for a cold night or game day!
This Slow Cooker Mac and Cheese is so incredibly cheesy!
Crock Pot Ribs– These ribs are super tender and flavorful. Coated in a spice rub and slow cooked all day. Then brushed with bbq sauce and broiled.
Slow Cooker Spicy Glazed Pork Chops– only 6 ingredients and less than 10 minutes of prep needed for this recipe!
Slow Cooker Meatball Subs– Easy homemade meatballs, a jar of spaghetti sauce, and 6 hours in the crock pot are all you need to make these Slow Cooker Meatball Subs.
Crock Pot Chicken and Noodles is full of shredded white chicken meat, thick egg noodles, and mixed vegetables all in a thick and flavorful gravy. This is pure comfort food that even the pickiest eater will love.
Only four ingredients needed to make this incredible Crock Pot Root Beer Pulled Pork.  It’s so easy and makes delicious pulled pork sandwiches!
Crock Pot Creamy Lemon Chicken is a great meal to serve with a side of pasta.
All of these meals can easily be made in a 6-quart slow cooker.
