I shouldn’t be surprised, but I just finished A Gentleman In Moscow by Amor Towles today and it is SUCH a Logan book, like I know they chose it on purpose but WOW
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s about a former Count, stripped of title and put under house arrest in a hotel. He’s very smart, has a lot of teacher qualities, after a while feels like he’s being ignored, and with the patience of a saint, slowly figures out a way to escape.
Tumblr media
I’m talking like 30 years imprisonment but he learns and pays attention and adapts. There’s so much in here that all points to Logan relating to and loving this book, well done. It was very good.

I’m doing a thing! It’s a retelling of the plot of The Brothers Karamazov from Grushenka’s perspective. You can read it on ao3.

So... A while ago I created a fictional historical character mainly for the fun of his name - Jean Héras Lebol (which, in French, is nothing more than a pun: you pronounce it almost like "j'en ai ras-le-bol", which is an expression used to say you're fed up). And now he has completely consumed my mind and thoughts.
He's a French WWI infantry soldier who took part in the Great War from beginning to end.
Those are some drawings I made of him a while ago. Later I'll share more.

Additional info below the cut:
The scar on the right side of his face is the result of hand-to-hand combat in which a bayonet ripped through his cheek.
When someone talks to him, he often turns his face to the left side, not to hide the scar, but because his right ear is deaf. His partial deafness is due to the explosion of a shell very close to him during trench warfare.
He's now part of my sister's story "Fruits de Coincidence" (my sister kindly adopted him and gave him a family and two nephews and their friends to look after, namely Célestin and Freddy).

I started posting my fic on AO3! (Haven't finished/posted anything in 9 years 😅)
Historical Felix Yusupov and Sergey Razumovsky-centric! Also serovolk. And a whole polycule with Georgy Chicherin and Vaslav Nijinsky. (The first 2 chapters are about Yusupov and Chicherin. Razumovsky shows up in chapter 4 and steals the show.)
Oleg is also Dashkov from Karamora basically, and this is inspired by Karamora in general. Not actually in the fandom tho.
Cluster B, schizospec characters, plural character (by a writer that is those things). Paraphilic and transage characters.

(Chapter 2 title is from poem "February" by Boris Pasternak)

when i was sixteen i thought leon trotsky and leo tolstoy were the same person, which is funny enough on its own but i read the permanent revolution and my life: an attempt at an autobiography when i was fifteen and apparently just thought that anna karenina was trotsky’s attempt to, like. dip his toes into the water of creative writing.

Thank you Netgalley and Publisher for this Arc!
I loved this beautiful historical fiction fantasy that revolved around Baba Yaga and the infamous Ivan the Terrible of Russia.
I love reading anything that gives me a real taste of history from any part of the world and I especially loved this incredible folklore surrounding a very dark time. It's a bit slow in parts but that's not something that bothered me because the writing was so beautiful. I loved seeing the old gods of Russia in this story along with Baba Yaga. Also, I love how this author conveyed the importance of the mortal pieces that make up these immortal gods and half-gods creating a very human side to some of them.
A beautiful story that I definitely recommend to fans of Russian folklore!
Out September 20, 2022!

Alexander Pushkin
At a seance ..."Ready! Where to begin?" "Could we start by channelling Alexander Pushkin. I have questions about several poems, The Queen of Spades and Eugene Onegin!" For my love of everything, I’ve had the pleasure of reading so far. A thank you to my co-worker for providing the content. (Happy Birthday! 🤗) © 2024 Samantha Williams. All Rights Reserved.
