RWBY as Bo Burnham
Summer: I wasn't sure about leaving him alone with my girls, but then I noticed his facial hair. Phew~!
--------------------------------------------------
Oobleck: I believe there is nothing more manly than five men showering together. It's true! Look back through the ages to our ancestry to the days of Cro Magnum, all wandering through the fog and scrubbing each other's backs. No homo~.
--------------------------------------------------
Jaune: Yeah, I wrestled in Beacon and there was this one match that I lost... my virginity~.
--------------------------------------------------
Cardin: Fellas, don't you hate it when you're blowing a dude and he turns out to be gay?! UGH! You mean I've been blowing a gay dude this whole time?! THIRD TIME THIS WEEK!
--------------------------------------------------
Ren: In the name of the father, son, and holy ghost, heads, shoulders, knees, and toes, turn up your nose, strike that pose! Eyyy, macarena~!
Nora: Woo!
Ren: Fuck you!
--------------------------------------------------
Yang: Don't act like you're ahead of me! I will maintain my advantage over you! I still hold the element of surprise! (Tugs cheeks) BLEH~!
--------------------------------------------------
Weiss: I WANT TO BEAT YOU TO DEATH WITH A BLUNT OBJECT! I WANT TO GRAB ONE OF THOSE HIGH-END MODELS BY THE ANKLES AND BASH YOUR RIBCAGE OPEN WITH IT! I WANT TO SHARPEN FIFTY PENCILS, TIE THEM TOGETHER, SHOVE THEM IN YOUR MOUTH, AND PUNCH THE ERASERS! I WANT TO STRAP YOU TO A BED OF NAILS, STRAP THAT TO THE HOOD OF MY CAR SO I CAN WATCH YOU SUFFER AS I DRIVE OVER EVERY POTHOLE FROM HERE TO THE MALL DURING AN EARTHQUAKE! I WANT YOU TO SURVIVE THE TRIP TO THE HOSPITAL JUST TO DIE IN A FENDER BENDER ON THE WAY BACK!
Weiss: Thank you, that's called "Dad".
--------------------------------------------------
Blake: I'm...
Blake: ...horny.
--------------------------------------------------
Pyrrha: What did I do last night~?
Pyrrha: I CRIED MYSELF TO SLEEP~!
--------------------------------------------------
Penny: According to my calculations, and let me crunch the numbers one more time- Yep! You're a pussy!
--------------------------------------------------
Whitley: What?
Winter: I'm sorry!
Whitley: I'm not.
--------------------------------------------------
Qrow: Women are stupid! (Crowd cheers)
--------------------------------------------------
Cinder: And I masturbate because I'm the only one whose standards are low enough to FUCK ME!
--------------------------------------------------
Kali: Tell me what you think of this; professional writer, actor, producer, director, dancer, crab fisherman, slut~!
--------------------------------------------------
Ilia: I put a chameleon on a red dildo~!
--------------------------------------------------
Oscar: Where are all the sour patch parents~?
--------------------------------------------------
Mercury: Haters gonna hate. Lovers gonna love. You need to reject both sides of the spectrum and find a healthy middle.
--------------------------------------------------
Emerald: Everyone hates moist. It's unoriginal. And it's stupid. And stop saying that like it's interesting. My least favorite word, by the way, is INJUSTICE.
--------------------------------------------------
Saphron: SPIDER~! HIDING IN THE CORNER~! SUPER FUCKING NORMAL~! I AIN'T AFRAID OF NO SPIDERS~! WHY'S HE LOOKING AT ME~? WHY- Why is he moving?! Stop moving! OH GOD HE'S COMING RIGHT AT ME-
--------------------------------------------------
Neo: I feel like shit~!
Neos: OH SHIT~!
Neo: Feelin' like a saggy, massive sack of shit~!
Neos: Oh! Shit!
Neo: Big ol' motherfuckin' duffel bag of shit~!
Neos: Oh... Shit...
--------------------------------------------------
Ozpin: Ah, yes, Hamlet! Shakespeare! Yes! The young prince whose father died at the hands of his uncle with whom his mother lied. Sound familiar? IT'S THE FUCKING LION KING!

SOOOO, what are the rwby dnd classes are for RWBYJNPR and everyone else you have in thought???
Keep in mind, these are all probably really shit builds for an actual DND game. I’m going off of vibes alone, and I will not be accepting criticism because I will cry :]
*cracks knuckles* OKAY HERE WE GO
Ruby is a human wild magic sorcerer
Weiss is a half-elf barbarian
Blake is a changeling monk
Yang is a tiefling paladin (Bahamut)
Jaune is an aasimar warlock (Asmodeus)
Nora is a tabaxi druid
Pyrrha is a half-elf cleric (Pelor)
Ren is a human bloodhunter
Oscar is a halfling fighter
Emerald is an earth genasi wizard
Penny is a human barbarian
As mentioned before, Salem is this world’s version of Asmodeus, and also Ozpin is this world’s Pelor. For balance and whatnot.
Tai is a wizard, and Summer WAS a paladin, both human. Yang gets her tiefling from Raven. Maria is a gnome sorcerer/druid who lives in Weiss/Penny’s barbarian tribe with Pietro
Blake disguises her changeling self by looking like an elf. Weiss is half human and half drow. Pyrrha isn’t actually HALF elf, she just has elvish ancestry, so she’s mostly human
Oscar and Emerald are “siblings” that grew up in the same orphanage together. Jaune’s whole family are aasimar, although he doesn’t know that until he’s like 16
I also chose subclasses, but they’re probably all nonsense so I didn’t even bother writing them down. Again, take all of these with a grain of salt, I’m going on vibes alone
This is more about the story, after all

Glossary of Terms often used on the Blog:
Each of the phrases will have a link that leads to a page on the wiki.
Vacosian: Vacosians are a near-extinct natural born species of Warriors that made their home in the Ultimate Void, on planet Voidal. A majority of the race was exterminated by the God of Destruction Cerveze, however a handful managed to survive, rendering the race close to extinction. They play a cental role in the Cyverse metaseries, where it is revealed that Ruby and Blair are Vacosians who were sent to Remnant. The best way to describe a Vacosian is to think of them as Outer Gods in humanoid forms. Sometimes they have tails and horns too, but it depends from individual to individual.
Dracontine: Dracontines are a natural born species of highly adaptive warriors that were known among the earliest race to have draconic roots, if not, the earliest known trace that had direct ancestry from Primordial Dragons, before the subspecies division of draconic races had occurred. The Dracontines have been relatively under the radar for a good while after the Draconomachy, in which the total population of the Dracontines took a steep decline. However, at present time, the Dracontine race seem to sit very comfortably, with replenished populations, both in Universe 1 and 12, each residing in their own version of Planet Dracorex on both Universes.
Super Vacosian: Super Vacosian, occasionally known as Ascended Warrior, is a legendary transformation unique to the Vacosian race of both the first and 12th universes. It is the signature transformation of the Vacosians relocated to Remnant, all of whom have been able to achieve the transformation, but was famously first awakened by Ruby Rose during her battle with the evil Fall Maiden, Cinder Fall.
Explanation: It's why some muses have multiple FCs. On that note, they're not shapeshifters, but rather think of it like Super Saiyan, just changing hair & eye colors.
Universal Government: The Universal Government is an universal regime which has ruled Universe 12 for over 500'000 years, since it was founded by an alliance of 200 different planets. It has since vastly grown in influence and now spans across more than 9'000'000 of the universe’s civilized planets.
God-Key: God Key (or Grand Key/Divine Key when translated) are ten tools/weapons created by Azathoth, that when brought together, would allow entrance into her domain and  ████,  while  granting each of the 10 wielders  ██████.
Remnant Dragon Balls: The Remnant Dragon Balls are wish orbs created by the Guardian of Remnant, Kami and were later enhanced upon request by said creator after Ruby asked her for an upgrade. These balls are mainly used on Remnant and were the first type of Dragon Balls used in the metaseries. They have played a major role and impact in the series, being used by a variety of characters, including main protagonist Ruby.
Cosmology: As previously mentioned, the Cyverse is a combination of several other verses (Cthulhu Mythos, RWBY, Dragon Ball Metaseries & the SCP Loredom) with my own unique twist to them, which combines them rather well if I dare say so myself. The whole thing started as a RP Blog on tumblr, known as phantxmthief, and has gathered over 23'500 followers as of this writing. Furthermore, people seem to really love the characters in it and love to know more about the Cyverse’s primary protagonist’s life; Which is Ruby Rose and some others peeps, but without further ado, here we go!

RWBY: Soldier of Ice
Plot: Winter Schnee, the first (later former) heiress of the Schnee Dust Company, is enrolled into Atlas Academy to not be defined by her family name and legacy. As her only desire to be remembered as a soldier for when she graduates. There, Winter is experiencing her life as a leader of Team WNND (pronounced: wind). And even making friends in the process. But also experiencing a rivalry with a student of Haven Academy, Jupiter Vasilias, rogue young man and a member of Team ZRVT (Pronounced: serpent), whom despises Winter because of who her father, Jacques Schnee was.
Characters:
Team WNND
Winter Schnee - An heiress of the SDC and the leader of Team WNND. Being made the leader of her team, she was shunned by her teammates due to her background as a Schnee. But remained patient with her teammates as it came to her understanding that they needed time to adjust to her as she has to do with them. Winter only enrolled into Atlas Academy to become a soldier and not be defined with her maternal grandfather, Nicholas's legacy. Though she takes her grandfather's advise to heart that she needs to bind her mind and soul to find herself a path.
Perseus Nire - an heir to Nire Industries. Like Winter, he was disgusted with how the rich disregard the lives of those unfortunate despite being born to a wealthy family that involves tinkering machines and weapons. He was disowned by his father after he forbade him from enrolling into Atlas Academy. He didn't trust Winter at first due to her father's shading dealings. But took his time to get to know her better and became her closest confidant. His weapon is a shield that also shifts into an arm blade, dubbed Arm-Protectus. His semblance is that his skin can transform into metal until his aura runs out to change back to normal. But it was weakened against heat. He is an allusion of the warrior, Perseus from Greek Mythology.
Natalie Andromeda - an heiress of Andromeda Cosmetics, and the love interest of Perseus Nire. Natalie was born a beautiful girl during her teen years. And her mother was jealous of her beauty that she once tried to sacrifice her to the oceans waves by chaining her to an iceberg. This unlocks her semblance of magnetic abilities that broke free from her captivity and saved herself from certain death. After this, her mother was arrested, and Natalie cuts ties from her father for failing to control her jealous behavior. Natalie enrolled Atlas Academy to not be defined by her beauty. There she met Perseus Nire, whom only interested in her for her for who she is. Her main weapons are the dual chains that her mother used for her sacrifice, and it was upgraded with spike gear attached on the ends. She is the allusion of Princess Andromeda from Greek Mythology.
Deshiro Kaze - am heir to the Kaze clan that served the Atlas Military for generations. And was next in line to lead his clan. His family was from a long line of samurais form his Mistralese ancestry. His grandmother was from Atlas descent, while his grandfather was born from Mistral. Making Deshiro's grandparents are the first interracial couple to reside in Atlas after marriage. His weapon was his katana. But for mysterious reasons, he wears a blindfold, even though he is not blind. His semblance creates waves of the wind every time he uses his sword. He is the allusion of the Japanese god of the wind, Fujin.
Team ZRVT
Zerena Slithers - The leader of Team ZRVT and the only female in the group from Haven Academy. Zerena was held captive as a slave to the aristocracies in Atlas as a young girl due to her being a snake-tailed faunus. Only for her to rally her fellow captives and fight back. Unlocking her semblance to turn people into stone. She wields a scythe/whip due to being taught by Qrow Branwen, making her one of Qrow's first student to have used a scythe besides before Ruby Rose. When it was turned into an electric whip, it was infused with electric dusts. Zerena is an allusion to Medusa from Greek Mythology.
Roth Mandle - A young man with a semblance to control the vegetation around the environment. He is a herbalist-in-training studying plants since his mother's flower shop came into a close. His main weapon is a battle axe that also serves as a minigun. Roth is silent, but he means well for his teammates. With his herbology skills, Roth can establish a remedy needed for healing, or a weapon for poison to use on his enemies. Though enemies with Team WNND, he respected them for their way of working together. He is an allusion to Jack and the Beanstalk.
Jupiter Vasilias - A blue-haired teenage boy who is rebellious and filled with anger issues. He is a student under Qrow Branwen (whom Jupiter idolized). He came from a rare bloodline of warriors that used aquatic-based semblances. Jupiter is well-known to be a heartbreaker and dating multiple girls, only to cheat the next. He has a grudge against the Schnee Family due to his mother's cases against CEO Jacques Schnee, and he retaliated with shutting the law firm down. And he hated his daughter, Winter for that, and would prefer to her as "Ice Demon." And hated the wealth and Atlas as a result. His main weapon is a spear that also serves as a saber naginata and a sniper gun. His semblance allows Jupiter to convert water into mist.
Tyler Shepard - A wolf-eared faunus and a thief. Tyler was raised by a tribe of bandits sometime after he somewhat ended up orphaned. Tyler has a skills for thievery and was long time friends with Jupiter, whom they formed a connection through business of revenge against the aristocracies. His friendship with Jupiter is similar to Sun's friendship with Neptune. Only he mostly followed for whatever Jupiter says and taught him how to steal. His main weapons are dual tomahawks that also shifts into pistols, dubbed Alpha and Beta. His semblance allows Tyler to steal other people's semblances by physical contact to use until their aura runs out.

RWBY Saints of Remnant Notes: Redesign
My dumb ass is trying to think of a design for Ruby and Blake, for the latter I want to do some kinda french/ninja/pirate vibe for her
as for Blake, maybe a ninja/pirate combo because when she becomes queen of the South(Vaccou part of it) I was thinking at the end she looks like a tropical queen, maybe a pirate ninja queen or something
definately giving her one of those anime ninja scarfs maybe her late father Kuroto(Ghira) who was from Mistrial was more ninja themed while her mom Noire(Kali) who's from Vaccou, is more Pirate themed when they were young, thus Blake is a Ninja-Pirate combo
Thus reconciling the ancient conflict of Ninjas and Pirates...
I mean in my AU is set in the Narnia multiverse and humans and Faunus were descended from humans originally brought from Earth up to the Civil War era by The Storyteller
So maybe Blake's Earth Ancestry can be Ninjas and Samurai on her father's side while being of French Pirates on her mother's
Ruby and Blake are hard...

What is dr watts and jacques schnee exact relationship like in your au? In canon we don't know too many details about dr watts and jacques relationship, but it was implied they had a decent working relationship before watt's presumed 'death'. However in your au with dr watts being winter's actual biological father I would assume that his relationship with jacques would be very different am I wrong?
You're right, their relationship is very different.
Jacques and Watts never got along, even before the whole arranged marriage to Willow, because Jacques was disinterested in the scientific community of Atlas beyond the Dust studies, which Watts wasn't a part of as he's in bioengineering and soul studies.
But it only got worse after Nicholas and Willow's father decided to have the two engaged. Watts is a very jealous and petty person, and these flaws only worsened the longer he had to watch the happy couple on TV, while being in the background as Willow's secret. Add onto how his scientific achievements were either brushed off or ignored for others, and his frustrations and bitterness was put all on Jacques.
Which wasn't entirely Jacques' fault. He's a horrible person and was one of the ones who looked down on Watts, especially since Watts isn't blue blood and even had ancestry that came from Eastern Mistral, which is seen as backwater to Atlesian nobility. But Jacques didn't chose Willow just as much as she didn't choose him, their arrainged marriage was the result of their parents.
Willow's death only cemented Watts' hatred of Jacques. He's aware of everything that happens in the Schnee house due to leaving his virus in the security system, and he saw how Winter was basically enslaved, only Jacques' daughter in name while being treated as a servant at best.
So yeah, they really don't like each other and their relationship won't be nearly as cordial as it is in RWBY.

RWBY Ancestries Chapter 8
I’m back! With a new chapter of RWBY Ancestries! Thank you all once again for supporting this AU and hope you all enjoy this one. I had one of my buddies @laserdog10 help me with the plot for this chapter so by all means go check him out! He does great posts and he’s a joy to have around. But without further wait let’s get back to it!
-Schnee Manor-
Whitley currently had a million thoughts that were running through his mind at this moment. For one, he was apparently running for his life from a group of people he did not know but the one Father had acquainted a few days prior. Secondly, these people seemed to have an objective of being here tonight, but what could that possibly be alluded him. Thirdly and most importantly, he needed to get somewhere safe. During all of this his mother had been leading him by the arm in their escape from their pursuers, who seemed to be catching up to them.
By some miracle they had it to the main stairway of the manor, from here it would be easy to make an escape to the outside where they could call the authorities to rescue them. Both mother and son both started descending the stairs at a quick pace, trying to get to the door before their pursuers could catch them. They were almost free from this nightmare, they only had to reach the door. However, when they both made near to the end of those steps Whitley stopped dead in his tracks. He could see and feel his mother trying to pull him along but his main focus was what laid down in front of them only a few feet away from the base of the stairway.
Whitley: “F-Father...”
Whitley looked on to see the still figure of his father, Jaqcues Schnee, laying in a puddle of his own blood. The man who had not a few hours ago smacked him across the face, who expected to be shown respect by him and others at all times and seemed untouchable was now laying on the floor dead. It was a surreal experience to take in and honestly disturbing, to have talked with the man one moment and then find them dead at your feet the next. He could still feel tugging on his arm and has seemed to harshly pull on it now. What was he doing again?
Willow: *Faint* “Whitley, we need to hurry! They’re coming!”
Whitley: “...mother...?”
The moment was broken when Whitley and Willow both are tackled to the ground by their pursuers. On his right he could see that the man in a ponytail had gotten his mother to lay down on the floor, pressing her face against the pristine flooring tile. On his end things were not that much better, he was pressed down in the same position but feels a pressing weight on his spine that does not feel like a human leg should feel like. He could also hear the sinister cackling of the man whispering about how ‘pretty’ his mother looked, and things he was most certain would not sound in any way flirtatious to a woman. As if to add insult to injury they were faced towards the main doors, just to remind them they were so close to escaping this nightmare, with Father’s corpse just lying there in front of them.
?????: “Hehehehehee! Oh how fun this is! Not only do I get to kill one Schnee today, but I can get a triple kill in the same day.~ I bet Ironwood would just eat that all up!”
?????: “Enough Tyrian!”
Whitley and his mother turned to the right as they heard the footsteps of the two other intruders join up with their pursuers. The man who he recognized as the mustached stranger along with a green haired girl. She had her pistols in hand and walked up to stand by his silvered haired captor. When the tall mustached man walked in front of them, then kneels down so that he is eye level with the two of them. He takes a look at him for a brief moment then dismissively turns away to look towards his mother, who he sees look at the man with look of shock, distress and ...familiarity.
Willow: “A-Arthur...you’re alive?”
Arthur: *smiles* “Hello dearest Willow, it has been quite sometime.”
Willow: “But...James told us that...you had died.”
Arthur: “A greatly exaggerated rumor. Then again I did want the rumor to be convincing. I’m sorry if these two caused you any serious pain, they’re not to most gentle of colleagues.”
Willow: “Arthur...why? Why did you do it?”
The lanky man, who Whitley now knows goes by “Arthur”, stared at his mother for a long pause without reply. He seemed to be thinking about what to say to her as if he cared about her opinion of him. This puzzled Whitley because normally his mother never seemed to look at someone with such familiarity and concern. Then again Whitley has never seem his mother sober long enough to really know who she knew personally or by acquaintance. Everything about today seemed to be turning inside out for him. Firstly his father was killed, secondly his home was invaded by intruders who seemed to do them harm, and lastly not only was his mother conscious of the whole situation but was also familiar with one of the intruders in their home.
Arthur turns his gaze over to him and the expression he got from the man was a cold, stone face that showed no emotion or remorse but seemed to be analyzing Whitley like a scientist would analyze a specimen. It gave Whitley chills down his spine from how such a man could look at him with such a lack of empathy. This brought back to his mind the first time he saw this man visit his home, he said ‘evening child’ then practically walked himself right in, like he was a family friend that didn’t require a invitation to enter his family’s home. He asked and later questioned Father about this man but he received none and was told to never mention that he was ever here. Now he was beginning to understand why.
Arthur: “I suppose this is your son? He looks a lot like you my dear. I bet this is quite confusing for you to understand any of what’s going on so I’ll be brief to the point. I require suitable means of transportation for myself as well as my colleagues here. I seem to remember Jaqcues owning quite a few of these ships in stock, but unfortunately we came to a...disagreement.” *he shrugs*
Willow: “So you killed him...” *she voice faint*
Arthur: “To be fair I asked nicely.”
Whitley: “You’re a murderer!”
Arthur: “That would be a word for it. But to be fair to my colleague here he did do most of the messy work.”
Whitley: “You won’t get away with this! We have a security detail and when they arrive-!”
Arthur: “Oh but of course! The security team, how can I forget about them. They were a wonderful bunch of fellows, a shame they won’t be coming anytime soon. You should really send some wine bottles and a gift basket for all their families and loved ones. Again, you can thank my two colleagues here for that.” *gestures to the two holding both of them down*
Willow: “Arthur how could you-?”
Arthur: “I do apologize but I’m sort of in a short pinch of time at the moment, so if you would please I really must need that ship right now.”
*Gurgle! Cough! Cough!*
A momentary pause spread over the group and the intruders and residents look ahead of them to see the presumed dead man Jaqcues Schnee heaving and choking on what was his own blood.
Arthur: “Jaqcues you’re still alive? Tyrian, I thought you killed him!”
Tyrian: “I did!” *hissed angrily but seemed also as confused*
Arthur: “Well it appears you did a very piss poor job of doing it.”
Tyrian: “Well he should’ve been dead by now! I injected him with enough poison to put down a man twice his size!”
Jaqcues: “*spits!* Do...you..really think...this is...the first time...a Faunus has tried to poison me...in my own home?”
Arthur: “‘sigh’ have to do everything yourself. Excuse me a moment dear, I just need to take care of a pest.”
Arthur gets up and walks towards the bleeding out Jaqcues, the weakened man trying to back away but the pain of his stab wound overpowered and is unable to flee from his imminent demise.
Jaqcues: “w-wait! Arthur...we can...be reasonable-Gah!” *clucking his lower abdomen, which was in a deep scarlet on his normally white suit*
Arthur: “The time for being reasonable is over Jaqcues, I gave ample opportunities to be reasonable but you seemed deadest on ending our arrangement. It’s a shame really, all the good we could have done for Atlas if you had just kept your nerves in check.” *Points his revolver towards Jaqcues face*
Jaqcues: “Wait! Please...I can still be...useful...You want a ship? Fine! It’s yours....just please don’t kill me!”
Arthur: “You know I would have considered that hadn’t been such an ass earlier. Besides, you know too much. You’ve seen mine and my colleagues faces, and I cannot afford to have James knowing about my involvement here.So...”
Jaqcues: “Wait! You...want my silence...you can have that too! I won’t say a word...to Ironwood...I never really liked him anyway! ‘Cough! Cough!’ In fact if you want...the scene to be convincing...I can just say some...White Fang thugs attacked us! He’ll...eat that up, you know how...paranoid he is! ‘Breathes’ If you want it to look convincing...you can have your people kill my wife and son there...make it look real!” *he explains while nervously laughing*
Willow/Whitley: “What?!!”
Mercury: “Shit. He’s giving my old man a run for his money.” *he whispers*
Willow: “Jaqcues you-you’re just going to have these people murder us!”
Jaqcues: “You...would only talk! Don’t think that...I don’t know about your little secret surveillance system all around the house woman!”
Arthur: “Did you say secret surveillance system?”
Jaqcues: “...Oh dear.”
Arthur: “Well I think that statement just cemented your family’s fates Jaqcues. Thank you for giving me an excuse.”
Jaqcues: “Wait! Please just spare me... they’re unimportant! I swear I won’t say a word!”
Willow: “Jaqcues! I can’t believe you! You-YOU!”
Whitley: “-motherfucker.” *shakes*
Willow and Arthur stared surprised at the boy’s voice cutting in, but none more so surprised than the bleeding man on the floor who Whitley directed his outburst towards.
Willow: “Whitley...”
Jaqcues: “B-Boy...what did you just-?”
Whitley: “You fucking piece of shit. After everything...after all these years of kissing up to you, I thought you would at least have some semblance...some, some form of love and affection for us. I thought you cared about us deep down! But now, now I can see that all of that was just the wishful thinking of an ignorant boy who thought that despite the beating, the manipulation, there was some care in your actions. There’s no love in your heart, maybe there never really was to begin with! Jaqcues Sc- no, calling you a Schnee would disgrace the name you claimed to gain. Jaqcues Geles, you sir are a motherfucking, child beating, clip on tie wearing piece of shit! And I hope. YOU. ROT!!!”
Whitley finishes his venting and starts breathing in and out. This was probably the first time he’s ever actually stood up to his father in...ever really. His only regret wasn’t doing so earlier. He felt...weightless.
Arthur: “Are you done? Good.”
*BANG!*
That weightlessness was then quickly replaced with the gravity of grim reality as he witnessed this man named ‘Arthur’ shooting his father in the head. Whitley begins to notice that a few drops of liquid make contact to his face. He does his best not to think about where it came from, even if he has a good idea. Willow on the other hand was speechless at what she had witnessed, Arthur had mercilessly killed a man. True she no longer held any love or sympathy for Jaqcues but to witness the man be killed in such a manner, in front of his child no less...it struck something in her.
Mercury: “The hell Doc! You couldn’t use a normal dust round?” *wiping specks of blood off his face*
Arthur: “Time is of the essence. Now, where were we?”
Whitley: “...you are really going to kill us.” *his voice so faint one could barely hear what he said*
Arthur: “‘sigh’...I don’t expect you to understand any of this boy, but her Grace is on a mission looking for someone in this kingdom tonight and I have no doubt in my mind that she will do her upmost to find them. Even if she must tear down or burn everything in Atlas and Mantle in order to do so. Honestly, killing you right here and now...is a mercy.”
Willow: “Arthur!” *she pleades once more*
Arthur: “Willow I take no enjoyment from this, I can only promise that it will be quick. I am sorry it’s come to this.” *he aims his revolver at her son*
Willow: “...I’m sorry too. Old friend.” *a glowing glyph appears under her hand*
Arthur: “..! What?!”
Before any of the intruders could react, a massive glyph appears under their feet and then suddenly a glowing white Nevermore appears and with its powerful wings flings their would be executioners off herself and her son. Arthur and those with him are flung across different sides of the room while he himself is hurled at the front door, nearly causing the frame to crack. The Nevermore* cries out, ready to defend its master having been dormant for so long. Arthur is surprised when Willow gets up, her eyes cold towards him. Then she turns to look upon her son.
Willow: “Whitley, I need you to get up my child.” *speaks in with a firm voice*
Whitley hesitates but ultimately does what his mother asks of him. He’s never seen her use a summoning before. In fact he never knew she even could! He always assumed she was like him and Father in not having her aura unlocked but what he was seeing definitely shows he was wrong. His mother had use her semblance, the Schnee family’s semblance, to save them both.
Willow: “Whitley I need you to listen to me, do you remember where the emergency scroll is in Jaqcues’ study?” *she asks*
Whitley: “Yes I do. But why-?” *confused*
Willow: “My child, I need you to go find it and call for General Ironwood. Ask him for help. Can you do that?”
Whitley: “What?! But-!”
Willow: “There’s no time Whitley! I need you to go find that scroll and call for help! I can occupy them but you need to go!”
*BANG! BANG!*
*Twing! Twing!*
The Nevermore summon blocks the shots that Arthur fired at them once he heard of their plans. Arthur curses this chain of events and continues waits for the opportune time to attack. He looks towards Tyrian, where the the Faunus assassin meets his eyes then he smiles wickedly, eager to even up his kill count.
Tyrian: “hehehehe~”
Whitley: “Mother I...I don’t think I can...” *he feels unable to move his legs from sheer terror*
Willow: “Whitley please.”
Whitley: “I’m afraid!”
Willow: “If you run you have a better chance at living, now go! I know you never had any reason to have to listen to me before but listen to me now!” *she turns to look at her son*
Thhat was a mistake. With her gaze momentarily on her son, Arthur was able to fire three shots that the Nevermore summon blocked but this also allowed Tyrian the chance to charge at them. He was able to slip under the Nevermore by sliding on the pristine tiled floor. Willow looks back and sees the crazed Tyrian close in on her, his smile wide and his eyes changing from golden color to a glowing purple, he draws his hand forward in a forward arc motion towards Willow. With short time to think she summons a Glyph in front of her. Upon making contact, she is shocked to see Tyrian as uses only his glowing purple hand to tear through the Glyph like it was merely cloth! Once the Glyph breaks apart, Tyrian continues his assault by hurling his left arm, his weapon deployed and ready to taste blood. Willow upon seeing the incoming strike she calls forth a second Glyph in place of the first and upon contacting with Tyrian’s weapon forces the assassin back as he is forcefully pushed back, the soles of his boots creating a screeching from the tiles of the floor. He looks to Willow with surprised but reverts back to his sadistic expression then proceeded to laugh disturbed gleeful way.
Tyrian: “My, My! Looks like you will be a lot more fun than your husband ever was! I wonder where all that fight was hiding before~ By all means...”
Tyrian deploys his second set of blades on his left arm before he bending his knees and then pounces into the air and closes in on Willow.
Tyrian: “-SHOW ME!!!”
Willow: “Whitley! RUN!”
Willow summons two more Glyphs, one to block Tyrian, stopping him once more and another under Whitley’s feet. Then suddenly Whitley feels a pushing force that sends him back towards the top stair case. He lands with his torso down before he follows over to look back in the direction of his mother, where he sees her doing her best to keep Tyrian occupied with the assistance of what he could only guess was a Grimm Knight? It looked awfully familiar to the statues that were placed at the bottom of the staircase. Were those based on Grimm?
Now wasn’t the time to think! This was his chance to escape and call for help! But Whitley looks back at his mother, his sole remaining parent, as she prevents anyone from getting past her. She was fighting...to protect him. His legs suddenly began to regain strength and with it he uses his arms to push himself back up and his legs to kick off the ground as he runs back up the remaining flights of stairs towards the left wing. Towards Father’s study!
Running with purpose, Whitley escapes out of the sight of Arthur and he starts losing his normal composure.
Arthur: “Damn it all! Sustrai! Black! I need you to-!”
Arthur turns to fing that both of them had left his side and after looking around he cannot see where they had gone. Did they runaway?! But after a second look, he looked past Willow where he sees both Emerald and Mercury had reappeared and started towards the direction of the boy. How did-? After a moment of thinking Arthur deduced that Emerald had used her semblance on both herself and Mercury to sneak past Willow while she was distracted by Tyrian.
Arthur: ‘Clever girl...’
Arthur returns his attention to the battle at hand, taking aim with his revolver towards the Nevermore summon and selects a Explosion Dust round.
*BANG!*
- To Be Continued -
A/N:
* Yes, Willow is able to summon a Nevermore, does this mean the DC Comics are canon to this AU...I don’t know but probably not.
1) I haven’t personally read any of the comics so I don’t really have an opinion on the story of them. If you like em that’s great but unless we something from the comics be mentioned back in the show it’s pretty much else world for me.......also talking bird form Raven. CA-CHAW!!!
2) I know I have hated on the art of the comics in the past (come on, they don’t even keep the way the characters are designed consistent) but I did like that Willow was able to use Glyphs and Summoning so I decided to include that. My AU fight me XD
Ok I would like to say before you all roast me on a pike for yet another cliffhanger after a such a long hiatus on the story, there’s a part 2 that I’m currently working on and will finish soon! (I promise I’m not gonna leave you guys hanging, especially you @thehtg-therealone) I really tried fitting everything into one chapter but I got very creative with the dialogue this one and couldn’t be satisfied with concluding the chapter here....... Except I am by ending the first part here instead of shorting the story or going to one of the other main characters perspectives. Where was I going with this?? Oh yeah, I appreciate all of you being so patient in waiting for me to update and after I complete the second part of chapter 8 we will return to the (J)NPR’s perspective. So there’s that to look forward to y’all! Again go support my buddy @laserdog10, he helped tremendously with this one and I owe a lot of the storyline to him so go ahead and give him some love. Take care you guys and be good people!

Ah. I think we may have a case of misunderstanding here. I am of the school of thought "Okay there's something going on with the Red Eyes" such that it is not by itself a semblance indicator. I blame Raven/Ozpin magic. It just pops up too often when Yang is angry but without any damage (ala Burning the Candle) and too separate in timing. See the final Adam fight where it's Red Eyes -> Gold Flash -> Semblance Active with Fire Hair reveal.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
oh yeah i’m loosely familiar with the “yang’s eyes are a magic thing” body of theories, but i don’t really find any of the posts i’ve read convincing; a few reasons, in brief:
1 - every argument i’ve seen hinges on yang being the only character whose eyes change color + her eyes becoming red, like raven’s. the reasoning here goes that eyes changing color can’t be a semblance thing, because it only happens to yang, and red eyes must mean it’s connected to raven, and because raven has magic the missing link here must be that yang inherited some magic. the… obvious problem with that is that the only consistent, one hundred percent universal rule of semblances is that they are a unique expression of an individual’s nature. we buy that ruby’s semblance can disassemble ruby down to her molecular constituents (or give her wave-particle duality at a macroscopic scale if you like my quantum bullshit probability warper theory) but not that yang’s can make her eyes switch color? blake’s can make perfect illusory copies of her but yang’s semblance turning her eyes into a mood ring is the bridge too far? (we might as well argue that yang is secretly a chameleon faunus like ilia, because ilia’s eyes, skin, and hair all change color in response to her moods just like yang’s eyes do.)
2 - in more general terms, i think rwby uses magic in a very specific way that precludes the possibility of any character having any “by accident,” so to speak. this is really the central reason that ALL “is x semblance actually magic?” theorycrafting falls down for me—by treating magic purely as power (or worse, as power that makes the people who have it *special* in some undefined metaphysical way), the thematic role magic plays within the narrative itself is lost at best, ruined in most cases, and at worst ruined in a way that positions the gods as essentially *right* in their perception that beings with magical power are superior to those without.
3 - further, we’ve seen—courtesy of the lost fable—that one magically-activated parent is insufficient to produce offspring capable of magic; one out of four of the children ozma had with salem inherited the magical gift, and the other three may have, but the children ozma had in a subsequent life didn’t have magic but DID have silver eyes. this is suggestive of an indirect link between magical ancestry and silver eyes—although it might instead be related to ozma’s recurring oscillations through the white void—and also a strong point in favor of concluding that BOTH parents must have magic in order for their children to inherit the ability. (this tracks with the god-given nature of magical power and the divine disdain towards modern, unmagical humans expressed by the god of light.)
4 - the question of magic heritability also relies on salem and ozma as its data points—both of whom have the god-given blessing that allows them to use magic innately. that is *not* the case for any other magically-activated character in the show: the maidens and the branwen twins all have magical abilities derived from pieces of ozma’s magic that he gave to them, and in the case of the maidens at least it has been emphatically and repeatedly demonstrated that this magic does NOT “belong” to the maidens in the metaphysical sense that ozma’s magic belongs to him; ozma’s magic stays with him when he dies and follows him from one vessel to the next, whereas the maidens’ magic is attached to their auras and separates from them to find another host when they die. it’s likely that the branwen twins’ magic will behave in a similar way when they die, because it isn’t theirs. right? so regardless of whether magical heritability operates on metaphysical or genetic rules, it seems to me very unlikely that a maiden or one of the branwen twins could pass magical abilities onto a child, anymore than a parent could pass on a tattoo.
anyway—all mechanical quibbling aside—
as i see it, yang’s semblance is hard-wired to hyperarousal; i think it becomes active whenever she has an acute stress response, i.e. yang’s semblance is just Magical Fight-Or-Flight. and when i say “active” here what i mean is the part that makes her into a damage battery turns on. (we’ve seen with other damage-absorption semblances that they do require activation—the absorption isn’t an “always on” thing. nora can be hurt by electricity if she’s caught unawares, adam needs time to prepare himself before absorbing huge blasts of energy with his sword.) so basically, something happens, yang gets upset or scared or angry, her nervous system activates in response to “danger” (regardless of whether there is actual danger or not), and for yang one part of that activation is her aura preparing to absorb any incoming force.
after this point, there’s a second stage of activation which occurs at the conscious level, when yang acts—and this is where the variations in how and when and what order the visual signals occur comes into play, and also why i really strongly disagree with characterizing this secondary activation as equivalent to drawing a weapon.
like—yes, sometimes yang’s eyes flash red when she gets upset or angry during an argument. the acute stress response *happens* during arguments and other situations that cause strong emotional reactions—our brains just aren’t wired to differentiate between dangerous situations and situations that just make us upset, the physiological bugout kit gets brought out either way, and that’s why we sometimes snap or lash out in the heat of the moment or need to leave the room to calm down. in non-combat situations where yang’s eyes change, *that* is what’s happening: yang feels emotional pressure, she has this acute stress response, some trigger happens, she reacts without thinking—snaps something in a moment of anger like anyone would, totally normal. it just happens to be a quirk of her semblance that makes her eyes flash red when it happens.
importantly, it seems to me that this is how yang’s friends and family understand these moments. “yang’s eyes turn red in an argument” = “oh, yang is really upset.” we see this in 5.8, when weiss, ruby, and yang have that little spat about blake leaving; they’re not *scared* when yang’s eyes change, they don’t react like she suddenly flew off the handle and pointed her weapon at them—they’re startled, but the whole back-and-forth is about them realizing that yang is A LOT more upset about blake than they realized, and when she snaps at them and her eyes turn red they’re really concerned for her. yang, too, reacts very much like someone who just, in the heat of the moment, raised her voice in an argument without intending to—and then upon registering that she just shouted, she immediately backs down and walks away to cool down by herself. (and she did, in fact, shout; the red eyes are just a visual symbol that underscores the snapping, and the scene would have likely played out exactly the same even if her eyes hadn’t changed.)
on the other hand—in actual combat situations where yang is consciously using her semblance to her advantage—we see various sequences of red eyes + fiery hair to signal that. i think the different sequencing and varying drama of these kinds of activations are—well honestly mostly down to the pacing of the fight, but symbolically the less dramatic an activation is, the less intense yang’s perception of danger. just like there’s a difference between, you know, the “oh shit running late for work i’m gonna sprint from the bus stop” kind of adrenaline rush versus the “holy fuck my car rolled into the ditch and there’s shattered glass everywhere and i don’t actually remember making the decision to climb out the window at the speed of light and move a safe distance away from the wreck but i’m here now and seem to be in one piece WHEW” kind of adrenaline rush, you know? sometimes her semblance is this do-or-die thing where she’s throwing everything she has into one last stand against an opponent she can’t otherwise outmatch, and sometimes the fight is already basically over and she’s popping her semblance to give herself a nice clean and quick finish.
i’d highlight, also, the use of her semblance during the fight in the void—when she sees neo going for ruby and her semblance fully activates before she starts to move. because that emotion isn’t anger; it’s PANIC. pure, immediate terror because somebody’s going to stab her sister and she needs to get over there right now. there’s no real benefit to activating her semblance fully in that moment—she’s not soaked up enough damage at this point for it to be worth it—but because her semblance is so closely intertwined with her acute stress response and because one hundred percent of yang’s mind in that moment is focused on Get To Ruby Right The Fuck NOW, we see that full activation happen as she begins to move.
all of which ultimately makes for, i think, an excellent metaphor for how hyperarousal is an automatic, uncontrollable physiological reaction but people can choose what we *do* with it. like *waves hands* if i’m having a bad day and i just barely miss the bus am i going to feel that rush of adrenaline because my brain can’t tell the difference between this scenario and, like, a moose charging at me? yeah. is that going to make me feel snappish and irritable? yeah. am i going to bite someone’s head off for bumping into me in that moment? probably not—i might startle and snap “hey!!” because i’m already in a state of hyperarousal and something just collided with me, but then i’ll catch myself and in all likelihood just do the normal “hey sorry”/“nah you’re good just startled me” thing, because i’m a grown up capable of acting rationally even when my brain thinks a moose is trying to charge me or whatever. it’s the same deal with yang’s semblance; it’s hard-wired to that acute stress response and while she might snap or startle now and then in normal situations, with her eyes flashing red, she’s a rational and remarkably mature person who is perfectly capable of recognizing when that isn’t an appropriate response, and recognizing when she needs to just remove herself from the situation. we’ve seen her do exactly that, in fact. her ability and willingness to do that are some of the key things that set her apart from adam, who thinks and acts like even the smallest shred of unpleasant emotion that he feels is an excuse to do whatever the fuck he wants.
all of this is also why imo yang’s semblance can work brilliantly as both a metaphor for hyper vigilant crisis-mode *and* emotional resilience and crisis management, because Fundamentally yang’s semblance is a normal fight-or-flight stress response souped up with Magic Fantasy Bullshit, and the key to resilience and healing from hypervigilance is literally just figuring out new and better strategies for dealing with crises. yang experimenting with new ways of using her semblance is in a literal way just yang figuring out new strategies for how to handle her reaction to acute stress, literalized through the magic system in the same way that ren’s shift from emotional masking to emotion-sensing is a literalization of his developing emotional intelligence and comfort with his own feelings. yeah?
SIDEBAR. i think the reason yang’s eyes turn raven-red specifically is a way of symbolizing the emotional similarities between them; raven, also, is a character very much defined by her fight-or-flight response, hers is just very much tilted toward flight. yang, unlike raven, has achieved a kind of harmony with her acute stress response—she might slip up a bit and snap when she feels especially harried, but she’ll catch herself a second later and do what she needs to to calm herself down, and once she’s done so she’s willing and able to talk about the issue that upset her in the first place. her eyes might flicker to red for a moment, but they’ll never stay that way for long. and 9 times out of 10, if her eyes go red, it’s because she’s using her semblance in combat—consciously bringing out this part of herself in a context where it’s appropriate and constructive to do so, and then letting it go once she no longer needs it. raven, though? raven just runs and runs and runs, twisting from one rationalization to the next, totally ruled by her own fear, and her eyes are red all the time. (because that’s their natural color yes but we’re talking *symbolism* here, so what matters is the contrast with how red eyes are used to represent yang’s emotionality.) and this is, of course, the essence of yang’s confrontation with raven at the end of v5; she recognizes that she has this emotional maturity and control that her mom does not, and she’s able to articulate that with so much clarity and conviction that raven runs out of excuses, runs out of justifications, and has to concede that she’s right.

RWBY real world nationalities/ethnicities headcanons
Summer - Mexican
Taiyang - 1/2 Chinese (Paternal), 1/2 Jewish American (Maternal)
Raven & Qrow - 1/2 Welsh, 1/2 Japanese
Ruby - 1/2 Mexican, 1/4 Chinese, 1/4 Jewish American
Weiss - Southern German, some French, Swiss (both paternal) and Austrian ancestry
Blake - Blake has this crazy mis-mash going on in canon, she’s got an Italian last name, an old english word for a first name, her parents have Hindi/Indian names, her design aesthetic has Japanese influence, and her home on Menagerie has Polynesian influences, so I figure for a real world au/headcanon she would be a mix-raced poc, but her primary descent is Indian and Polynesian, with more distant English, Japanese, and Italian (hence the last name) ancestry
Yang - 1/4 Chinese, 1/4 Jewish American, 1/4 Welsh, 1/4 Japanese

How do you feel about the Branwen Tribe? Were you satisfied with their portrayal in canon, or will Redux make significant changes to them?
I am so happy you asked me this, anon, because I’ve been wanting to talk about this topic for a while.
The short answer to your questions, in order: meh, no, yes.
The long answer (with emphasis on long) boils down to a handful of factors:
Why do the tribes exist? This question can be answered from both a storytelling, meta, and worldbuilding perspective. Basically, it’s discerning the intentions/motives of the writers, either definitive or presumed.
Do the tribes add anything meaningful to the story? As in, can we quantify the impact that the tribe had on character arcs and plot development. If we were to remove the tribe from the story, would their absence noticeably affect how it’s told?
Are the tribes being used to their fullest extent? It’s worth pointing out that the tribes are, functionally, a writing tool, and therefore a resource at the writers’ disposal. Can we imagine different ways that the tribes could be interacting with the story, but aren’t? What reasons are preventing the writers from doing so?
Does the worldbuilding for the tribes justify their existence, or enrich the lore? As in, does it make sense for the tribe to exist within the context of the story. What sort of forces within the world—cultural, economic, political, natural, or otherwise—created the ideal conditions for bandit tribes to emerge?
Do the tribes complicate/contradict the story, or create noticeable plotholes/discrepancies in the worldbuilding? When we look at the tribes critically, we have to ask ourselves what about them does or doesn’t make sense. How the tribes operate, how characters interact with them, and such.
Before I go any further, I want to preface this post by saying that my thoughts were sort of everywhere. This will be less of a structured essay and more of a bulleted rant, in part because all of my grievances with the tribes (not just the Branwen) intersect and can’t be neatly compartmentalized.
And yes, tribes, as in plural. Because in case any of us forgot (and it’s forgivable that we would, since we only ever see one throughout the series), Mistral has at least a few of them running around.
Tumblr media
“Wandering bandits are another threat. These groups of usually fairly-skilled fighters travel the lands, never settling in one place. They often prey on convoys sending goods between Kingdoms. That's not all. These raiders will often wait for a town to be at its weakest—maybe after a Grimm attack or while its fighters are out hunting, before finally moving in at night and striking.” | Source: World of Remnant, Volume 4, Episode 5: “Between Kingdoms.”
Now, the technical reason why we only see the Branwen Tribe is because of contrivance. Raven is, after all, Qrow’s sister, Yang’s biological mother, a former member of Ozpin’s inner circle, and the Spring Maiden. The production team isn’t going to waste time or money writing and animating other bandits, when Raven already fulfills several roles within the story.
The drawback here is that reducing their existence to a few throwaway lines, and omitting them from the story, creates a vacuum. And it doesn’t take long for questions to fill that newly-created space.
1. What exactly are the tribes?
For once, I swear, I’m not asking just to be pedantic. RWBY gave these wandering bandit factions a unique designation—a tribe. Not a gang, or mob, or ring, but a tribe. And that word has a very specific meaning:
tribe /tɹaɪb/ n. a socially, ethnically, or politically cohesive group of people; [1] a social group composed chiefly of numerous families, clans, or generations having a shared ancestry and language; [2] any aggregate of people united by ties of descent from a common ancestor, a community of customs and traditions, adherence to the same leaders, etc. [3]
It’s not some arbitrary label. Tribes have a commonality, something which links its members together into a distinct, recognizable entity. We know this because “tribe” isn’t used interchangeably with other criminal organizations. The Spiders aren’t a tribe. Roman Torchwick’s gang isn’t a tribe.
This word was chosen by the writers deliberately. Granted, the writers could have called them “the Branwen Tribe” in order to make them sound more threatening (which has its own not-so-great implications), but there’s no ignoring that this term is selectively applicable. In RWBY, tribes refer to a group of semi-nomadic reavers who inhabit Mistral.
That, coupled with Raven’s survival of the fittest creed, [4] sounds a lot like the Old Way practiced by the ironborn in A Song of Ice and Fire. If this is true, then it’s entirely possible that the tribes aren’t just a loose coalition of marauding criminals, but a distinct cultural and ethnic group.
That’s a massive revelation from a worldbuilding standpoint, one which holds up surprisingly well under RWBY’s framework.
Let’s keep using the ironborn as an example. In ASOIAF, the ironborn hail from a storm-battered archipelago known as the Iron Islands. The climate of the region has significantly influenced the geography, rendering the soil nutrient-poor, stony, and unsuitable for farming. The only resource that’s readily-accessible is fish. It makes logical sense that the Old Way (their reaving culture) emerged as an outgrowth of their dependence on piracy.
Mistral’s bandit tribes occupy a similar niche. Canonically, the tribes wander from place to place to avoid Grimm. A non-sedentary lifestyle makes agriculture difficult, and thus creates a predisposition for raiding towns and villages in order to survive. Give it a few generations, and it’s easy to see how this practice could have been integrated into the bedrock of their culture.
That, in turn, could lead to all sorts of worldbuilding and storytelling questions: Would certain legal sanctions or concessions have been granted in order to preserve their culture, under the assumption that the tribes represent a protected minority? Are there any tribes that voluntarily gave up aspects of their heritage so they could avoid being arrested? In which case, how would they have adapted to changes in their way of life? If the tribes collectively refused to relinquish their raiding culture, then did the Mistral government retaliate? Would all members of the tribes’ ethnic group be recognized as criminals on-sight? What traditions or customs are exclusive to the tribes? Do they practice their own religion, or speak a language separate from mainstream Mistrali? Do children born in the tribe undergo rites of passage, like going on their first raid, or killing someone for the first time? How would that sort of cultural immersion have influenced Qrow’s and Raven’s childhood? What if someone wanted to voluntarily leave the tribe, and eschew their way of life? Would they be ostracized? Would the tribe do something as drastic as put a bounty on them? How would a person who grew up in a culturally-isolated environment like theirs navigate society? Would it be similar to the trauma faced by ex-Mormons who were excommunicated?
Do you have to be born to parents in the tribe in order to be considered a member? Or do the tribes actively recruit from outside sources? Maybe it’s like in One Piece, where Nami was made a member of Arlong’s crew because she demonstrated a valuable skill (cartography). Or perhaps the tribes recruit survivors from their raids, similar to Davey Jones in Pirates of the Caribbean 2, when he invited the helmsman from the scuttled ship to join The Dutchman after the kraken attacked.
…You know, looking back on the examples I used, it might not be a coincidence that all of them are pirates.
Anyway, the issue here is that all of the worldbuilding I posited hinges on an assumption: that “tribe” actually means something in this context, instead of Rooster Teeth just throwing a dart at the dictionary and picking whichever word it landed on. Without any sort of elaboration, the bandit tribes are left rather vague, with Raven’s group being the sole representative.
All we’re left with is the canon.
And that’s where things start to break down.
2. The way the bandit tribes operate doesn’t work.
Did you know that the Kingdom of Mistral only has ten settlements?
No, seriously. Ten. As in, I can literally count to that number with both hands.
To give you an idea of what those settlements are like, I’ve gone ahead and categorized them.
Major industrial city: Argus, Kuchinashi, Wind Path, City of Mistral
Backwater podunk village connected by dirt roads: Higanbana, Shion, Unnamed Village 1 (V4.E1), Unnamed Village 2 (RWBY #3)
Gone, but not forgotten: Oniyuri, Kuroyuri
Of the ten places I listed, four are massive cities with standardized defense systems that can repel Grimm (and are more than capable of resisting bandits). The other two are derelict villages that were destroyed a long time ago.
This leaves us with four small villages that are susceptible to bandit raids.
Oh, wait, scratch that. Shion was destroyed by Raven as of the second episode of Volume 4. My bad.
That leaves us with three small villages that are susceptible to bandit raids.
Although bandits will attack supply convoys and travelers, destroying towns [5.1] seems to be their primary means of survival. Here’s what that looks like in practice:
Tumblr media
The destruction of Shion. | Source: RWBY Wiki contributor user:ChishioKunrin.
But there’s a problem with this business model: it’s not sustainable. With villages falling as soon as they pop up, [6] and typically not lasting more than a year, [5.2] it doesn’t make sense for bandits to systematically wipe them out.
Especially when there are only three villages left.
Especially especially when there are multiple tribes in Mistral all competing for the exact same limited resource.
A more feasible and pragmatic solution would be for the bandit tribes to implement something like pizzo, the protection money that the Mafia extorts from local businesses. In exchange for “payment,” the businesses are “protected” by the Mafia. Think of it like paying your taxes, only instead of your taxes going toward schools and infrastructure, they go toward the Mafia not breaking your kneecaps.
Not only would a system like that be more viable long-term for the tribes, but it would be harder for the Mistrali government to track and put a stop to. After all, smoking rubble is a lot more obvious than, say, a nondescript guy walking into a fuel station/restaurant and collecting lien from the owner.

Wouldn’t you agree?
3. Qrow should have changed his last name. (Bet you didn’t see this one coming.)
While we’re on the subject, I’d like to bring up this exchange:
Bartender: So, what brings you around these parts?
Yang: Thanks. And I'm, uh, looking for someone.
Bartender: Not too many people come out here. Too far from the Kingdoms. Only person worth notin' around here is…well, Ra—
Yang: Raven Branwen.
Her tribe—the Branwen Tribe—is known by name across Anima, despite the fact that they regularly pick up and move their camp. The bartender is terrified by the mere mention of them.
Enter Qrow, whose reputation not only precedes him, [7] [8] but whose legal name on his license is the same one used by an infamous gang of thieves and killers.
Seriously, how has this not backfired on him? I mean, for Christ’s sake, he was a teacher at a school. You don’t think there weren’t students whose parents read his name on the faculty list and didn’t immediately have heart palpitations? Or, like, bars in Mistral that caught a glimpse of his license and didn’t immediately call the cops?
What about instances where Qrow sees a group of people in danger, so he jumps in and whips out his license to reassure them that he’s there to help. He wouldn’t be able to get the first three words out before the people around him started panicking because oh my god it’s a bandit from the Branwen Tribe we’re going to die.
Or what about victims that might have survived encounters with Raven, and forever bear a grudge against her? Branwen is undoubtedly a hated name in Mistral, and could be a sore subject for someone who overhears it. Why would Qrow risk his safety and invite unnecessary conflicts by hanging onto a name that’s a relic of his past?
For that matter, it’s a relic of his past. Qrow defected from the tribe to serve Ozpin, and do some good in the world by becoming a Huntsman. Why would he want to continue identifying with the name that represents a source of trauma and pain? I find it hard to believe that Ozpin, if asked, couldn’t have used his status as headmaster and pulled some strings to get his surname changed.
There’s so much more I could say about the tribes, and how I think they’ve been underutilized (especially by Cinder et al) but this post is getting long. Suffice to say, the tribes in the Redux are getting overhauled big time—their culture, their history, their relationship with other criminal factions, how many tribes there are, how the Mistrali government deals with them, how Salem uses them to meet her goals, and so on.

The persona and other Jung stuff in RWBY
I was thinking about Jung today (obviously, made lots of annoying posts about it) and who and what the personae are in RWBY. I tend to pay attention to Shadows and anima/animus because that's where my interest more often is, since the persona is:
“[…] a kind of mask, designed on the one hand to make a definite impression upon others, and on the other to conceal the true nature of the individual.” - C.G. Jung, Two Essays on Analytical Psychology, 1953
and the path to the Self and individuation is effectively slaying this false self, or identifying where you really begin and where it really ends.
I would also like to note that this quote is a good one to use on the persona, and Nightbloomwitch also used it in her essay on the Darkling, which I recommend for reading if you're interested in an analysis of his character, 'tracing his literary ancestry'. I also asked her permission a while ago to borrow her Jungian mindmapping, because I hadn't seen it done before. It really is a great essay - I hope she's doing well wherever she is - and incredibly fascinating, not to sound like I'm sucking up. (;
Here's an abbreviated description of the persona on the Carl Jung website, with its academic citation in the link (want to save space lol):
One could say, with a little exaggeration, that the persona is that which in reality one is not, but which oneself as well as others think one is.
A character such as Ben Solo has a persona of Kylo Ren, The Darkling is a persona etc. and that's why he reveals his true name to Alina when he dies (though TGT isn't a stellar example of Jungian storytelling). It's why what happens in Dark happens the way it does. Darth Vader - one of the best examples from the story that basically began the conscious repurposing of the monomyth - is the persona of Anakin Skywalker, that's why he is finally able to pass peacefully with the mask off.
But Cinder is an interesting case because her persona - like Raistlin from Dragonlance - is represented by another character that she imitates and wishes she were more like, who is Salem. Salem is also her master and whom she is literally enslaved to (slave to a mask/persona). This is why I've always talked about Cinder and masks.
Or, Salem and Madame are one conflated persona since she essentially tries to imitate both. When she killed Madame, she never truly killed the false self, and she was vulnerable to Salem. That's not her happy ending (or bad ending) or the end of her individuation. That's why Cinder needs to be meaningfully freed. ("Without you I am nothing," - without the mask/enslavement, she can't see who she truly is. See: the Fall Maiden's lesson she needs to learn. Look at everything already in front of you).
Salem's ending will be a reconciled peaceful death, I suspect. I was also thinking about Ruby. I think Ruby's persona is Summer Rose. I am currently wondering how many personae of the characters have to die. Qrow's persona was Clover, for instance.
That's why he teams up with his Shadow to kill the mask. (Qrow literally calls it a 'deal with the darkness'. I can't make this shit up, it's so obvious it hurts).
In summary, I love revealing things and the truth and narrative patterns. Let me supplement a Jungian mental psyche map, with Cinder's mapped out to complement it:

So you can see what I'm getting at visually lol.

Honestly, the reveal of Coco’s nazi ancestry was more just a highlight on how poorly the character design for team CFVY already was. They 3 were made to give Velvet (based off the Velveteen Rabbit) a team (a Velvetteam if you would). We have Yatsuhashi, named after a dessert, and his allusion is... just the dessert. Like, not even a yokai or something? Highlighted by the random semblance of memory erasure. Then Fox, apparently named after a pie. And that’s it. Then Coco. Oh boy. 1/
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yeah, I do not share your faith that they just didn't know. There are reasons why, including Coco's very military based design, the confirmation of Coco Chanel's N*zi status being major press around the time Coco was created, and RT's antisemitism in Camp Camp, including a portrayal of a character literally based on H*tler himself. @why-i-hate-rwby-now articulated reasons why in this post, but goes into detail more surrounding Camp Camp and Coco here. These posts obviously contain discussion of N*zis and discussions of antisemitism, just fair warning. Also more discussion around this down below.
It's impossible for me to think that they didn't know about Coco Chanel's N*zism, despite the fact that I try to give the benefit of the doubt as much as I can to everyone I can. After seeing all that shit about Camp Camp, I think it's pretty clear that yes, they are insensitive and brazen enough and harmful enough and anti-Semitic enough to include a character based on a N*zi in RWBY. The most grace that I can give them is that they were stupid, immature jerks and douchebags who thought it was funny 'dark humor,' and weren't thinking through the full ramifications or the harm it would do to others. But that is still antisemitism.
And anyway, even if it was an accident (which I doubt,) there's no way they don't know it at this point, and the very least they could do is make a clear and open apology and remove the character of Coco from their lineup, rather than pushing Coco in things like side books and their Chibi animations, and trying to confirm her as queer. Coco is not a big player, she can (and should have already) been killed off, off screen, leaving possibly queer in-universe minority not based off of a N*zi fan favorite Velvet to head the ATF/BTD series. And if they had to keep Coco around, they could have made her a bully or a bad guy, instead of trying to make her the main, centered, hero and great leader EC Meyers was clearly trying to make her. (Not that I don't think she is a bully in the books so far as I am now at chapter fifteen and taking a break, but she's not meant to be seen as that, she's meant to be super cool, awesome, and in the right.)
But, serious topic aside, the Team Allusions themselves are all very weird to me and don't work for me. It would be much better for me if the team was based off stories involving sweets, Hansel and Gretel (before anyone says it, I know that's what Hazel and his sister are based off of, but darned if I care,) or the Nutcracker, like you said, or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. This is what I think I'll do if I end up reinventing Team CFVY for a re-write, while reinventing Coco completely, possibly into a character based off of Willy Wonka.

They interpreted your answer to "are you white" question as trying to be relatable to poc to excuse the racism in the ethnicity post.
I mean, maybe you should talk to them?
And if it's okay, I want to know your thoughts on "xenophobia and racism are different things", and that despite being irish you're still white, so you shouldn't try to insert yourself into conversations about that. (Or you relate/interpret white fang subplot because it would take away from poc) While I personally don't have that opinion, I'd like to know what you think about it.
No, I’m not going to talk to them. Instead of approaching me on that post, or speciically reference that post in an ask, like other people actually did, they asked me anonymously what my ethnicity was and how it affected my posts about RWBY.
It’s pretty clear at this stage, what with the fact that I’m Irish is in my header, that they were expecting me to say “White” and then they’d spring a “gotcha” on me.
It’s my view that they were attempting a bad faith argument. And it’s clear they are, because they’re literally putting words in my mouth. Like, some of them are claiming that I said I’m immune to racism because I’m Irish.
And that’s not true. I never said that, and I’ve never believed that. I see a ton of racism in Ireland. Most of what I see is directed as Eastern Europeans, South Asians, and Irish Travellers. I have had to unlearn things I was taught by both the media and the people around me, and unlearn things is ultimately a lifelong process. I will always be finding things to unlearn.
And as for the idea of “racism vs xenophobia”... They’re wrong? Like, dictionary definition wrong?
Wikipedia says racism is “prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against other people because they are of a different race or ethnicity.”
It goes on to say:
While the concepts of race and ethnicity are considered to be separate in contemporary social science, the two terms have a long history of equivalence in popular usage and older social science literature. "Ethnicity" is often used in a sense close to one traditionally attributed to "race": the division of human groups based on qualities assumed to be essential or innate to the group (e.g. shared ancestry or shared behavior). Therefore, racism and racial discrimination are often used to describe discrimination on an ethnic or cultural basis, independent of whether these differences are described as racial. According to a United Nations convention on racial discrimination, there is no distinction between the terms "racial" and "ethnic" discrimination.
“Irish” is an ethnicity. Discrimination against Irish people for their ethnicity is racism.
It’s a racism I have beeen subjected to. That my father has been subjected to. It’s a racism that has resulted in widespread death in living memory.
I’d much rather people not try and dictate what my lived experience is.

Do you have designs of Team SPRN’s families as well?
Team SPRN is a bit of a funky one simply because I actually haven’t changed many of the designs, so I haven’t done any full body models of most of them.
Pyrrha and Ren are simply because their canonical designs in RWBY is how they look in AZRE. I like the designs of all three of them, and I didn’t add any additional family members. The only difference is Pyrrha’s mother has brown eyes rather than green, so that she doesn’t follow the RWBY issue of the mothers literally being clones of their daughters.
Tumblr media
Obligatory edit to show her with brown eyes. She really popped off with them.
Now Sun’s family is different because his entire backstory is different to his canonical one. His family is Eliana and the Marrón siblings, and they have their designs already posted to this blog, so I don’t wanna bog this post down by reuploading them.
That really does just leave Nora, and I actually changed her mother in canon to a grandmother who Nora travelled around with.
Tumblr media
Her name is Fjorgyn, and she is the badass viking grandma that taught Nora everything when she was a kid.
Obviously, Nora wears more modern clothing, but older people in AZRE tend to prefer to wear clothing that’s more connected to their ancestry, and that goes especially for the Ankou; an ethnic group that come from Western Solitas. Both Nora and her grandma come from this group, so both have more Norse style clothing and naming to fit the Scanadanvian coding of the Ankou.
Since her allusion is Jörð, the personification of Earth, and her name specifically comes from earth, I made her colour pallete a very earthy one with browns, oranges and greens. The white adds another colour that helps break up a lot of the very dark and muddy colours.
The marking on her face is actually face paint. In the lore, the Ankou used face paint to denominate one’s place in their society, and Fjorgyn originally had the markings of a seamstress, but the exile of her and her house ended up forcing her to wear the marking of an outcast.
I like the grandma and her design. It’s nothing crazy like some of my favourite designs, but she is ultimately a backstory character to connect one of the more prominent characters in Nora.

Since its halloween ive got something that i thought was pretty hot. Pyrrha sitting down at a table looking flushed while watching Dullahan!Jaune train. People assume its from watching her crush get hot and sweaty but jaunes head is eating her out to practise his multi tasking. Some good old fashiond monster stealth sex
A Dullahan’s Lesson In Multitasking!
Pyrrha was a woman on a mission. Jaune, her team leader, her partner, the love of her life, her beloved boyfriend of several months, was still so shy!
Not that that was a problem, no, not at all. That was one of the things she found cute about him when she finally got through the false confidence he wore as a mask.
Part of it was how in over his head he felt at the school, but she knew a great deal of it was because he was of a monster legacy. The first in his family for several generations. And of Dullahan Ancestry to boot.
From all he told her, none of the other children really wanted to play with him as kids due to the superstitious nonsense surrounding the Dullahan species. Honestly, they had believed her belovedly awkward boyfriend would reap their souls. Idiots, the lot of them.
But due to this, Jaune was rather...no, he was incredibly skittish around any sort of physical intimacy...especially due to how his head separated sometimes when nervous or excited.
And that didn't even begin the problems. Nora was excitable and hardly ever left them alone, and the less said about RWBY's shenanigans messing with their ability to be alone, the better!
But this...she had the perfect plan for it. Ren and Nora were currently in Vale. RWBY was currently in detention due to one of their "adventures" (Pyrrha couldn't help but roll her eyes over that), leaving just them alone. Meaning that this plan was sure to work.
She was drawn out of her thoughts by her boyfriend's voice. "So, what's the plan, Pyrrha?" the redhead looked cheerfully at her boyfriend, arousal flooding her core at what was about to happen.
She hummed. "Multitasking in combat." she smirked to herself as she heard Jaune give a little confused noise...he wouldn't be confused for long.
Reaching the training ground that she had procured, she smiled, turning and giving Jaune a gentle kiss and cupping his cheeks. "I need you to trust me, okay Jaune?" she asked.
Jaune looked at her in confusion, but nodded, although he inhaled sharply as Pyrrha tugged, lifting his head off of his shoulders easily.
"What we're going to do is your body is going to go through our normal routine, while you and I are going to be doing something else." she somehow managed to hide the salacious expression she wanted to give her boyfriend, instead managing to stay with more of a mentor-like look.
Jaune swallowed roughly, cheeks warming as his girlfriend apparently hadn't noticed that she was cradling him against her chest. The soft swell pressing against his cheek gave off a warm heat, making his blush even darker as he realized that Pyrrha had forgone a bra.
He could feel himself starting to swell in his pants, and bit the inside of his lip and tried to think of the unsexiest things he could. His girlfriend was going out of her way to train him, the least he could do was not be some creepy pervert, getting hard at the slightest touch. "O-okay…" he swallowed again, nervously directing his body over to the training area as Pyrrha gently carried him to a table set up over in the corner, one that he could see only revealed a person's feet. The legs to waist would be completely covered.
As Pyrrha sat down and placed his head on the table, he found himself clearing his throat as she stared at him intensely, her emerald eyes having a strange gleam to them. "So w-what are we going to be doing, Pyrrha?" he asked.
Pyrrha squirmed in her seat, wetness seeping from her lips and smearing along her inner thighs. Smiling at her boyfriend, she hummed, stroking his cheek with several fingers. "As I said, you're going to be multi-tasking~" she cooed, finally unable to keep a straight face.
Jaune blushed at Pyrrha's tone, but still tried to keep himself calm. "O-okay, so like strategies?" he needed to keep calm, his girlfriend didn't need him perving on her now.
The hum she gave made his body, several yards away, shiver. He swallowed again as Pyrrha picked him up and looked into his eyes with a smile that made his cock twitch in his jeans. "Oh, your mouth will be involved, Jaune...you just won't be talking much."
Confusion filled him, before it was replaced with shock as Pyrrha gently lowered his head down, past her chest (he caught a glimpse of her nipples pressing through her top), and down under the table. He caught sight of a hopeful, outright eager look on her face before his eyes widened as she placed him on the bench between her legs...and underneath her skirt.
His nose was immediately hit with a musky sweetness that made him salivate as he stared at her swollen core, the lips shaven bare and dribbling her arousal before him.
A hand on the back of his head gently pushed him towards the junction between her thighs, flooding his nose and filling his lungs with Pyrrha's scent.
He was pusher further up to her core, close enough that his lips grazed her lower ones. As damp thighs closed around his ears, locking him in place, his eyes hooded and on instinct, he opened his mouth and extended his tongue…
Pyrrha gasped in pleasure mixed with joy, eyes holding as she watched her boyfriend's body go through his training regiment, while feeling his lips and tongue on her aching pussy. Biting her lower lip, she gently ran her fingers through Jaune's hair, happy that she had come up with this idea. They would have to do this again…
Redness filled her cheeks as Jaune became more active, his tongue worming it's way into her core, licking along the inside of her walls. A soft moan exited her mouth, her body trembling as his nose nudged her clit. How was he so good at this!?
Jaune knew that if anyone looked at his body, they would see a bulge making its way down the inside of his right leg. He was thankful it did that rather than stick straight outwards.
Pyrrha's taste washed over his tongue, the sweet, syrupy fluid practically imprinting itself on his tastebuds, making sure he would never forget it.
He would admit, this was undeniably pleasant. He had had his own fantasies, certainly, but he had never thought of this before! But one thing was for sure, this answered the question he never had known how to broach about whether she was ready for sex or not.
He worked his tongue in, feeling her walls grab onto the organ, practically making out with his girlfriend's lower half. He was going to do everything he could to make sure she enjoyed this...he wanted her to never regret trusting him with her pleasure.
Pyrrha licked her lips, feeling her core beginning to quiver. She was going to cum, only minutes after Jaune had started! Part of her was embarrassed, another impressed, and even another lustful for more orgasms after she tipped over.
Her eyes widened as the door opened, and she forcibly schooled her expression as best she could, looking over to see Coco and Velvet peeking in. "Ah, sorry, Pyrrha! Thought this one was unoccupied...why is your boy training without his head?"
Calling the second year girl all manner of foul names in her head, Pyrrha forced herself to speak. "It...it's a test in multitasking...there are going to be times that...that Jaune is separated from his body…" oh, Brothers, she was getting so close, and Jaune wasn't stopping, he was only getting faster! "S-so, it's best he gets u-used to doing t-things while separated. H-he's reading back in the dorm far-right now."
The beret wearing girl stared at her for a long moment, before nodding. "Smart idea. Come on, Bun-Bun, we'll find another training room." the pair retreated, closing the door behind them.
Just in time, too, as Pyrrha tipped over the edge, throwing her head back with a throaty cry, her pussy squeezing and squirting her cum over her lover's face.
As a chuckling Coco and a red-faced Velvet made their way down the hall to another training room, the beret wearing brunette spoke. "Brothers, if Pyrrha were any thirstier, she'd be dehydrated. Getting so flustered over just watching his body train, what's she gonna be like when they do the do?"
Velvet blushed more, refusing to speak up. She knew that Pyrrha had been far more than ‘thirsty’ as she watched Jaune’s body train. The scent of arousal was so strong, she would have thought her masturbating had she not seen both of Pyrrha’s arms on top of the desk...had the redhead hidden a toy in her panties?
If Velvet had known the truth of what she and Coco had walked in on, she’d have been much more embarrassed.
Gently spreading her thighs open, Pyrrha reached down and pulled up her boyfriend’s head, his lips and cheeks smeared with her juices. Bringing her up to his level, she slammed her lips against his, forcing her tongue into his mouth and tangling it with his, uncaring of the fact that she could taste herself.
Pulling away after several moments, they both panted, staring at one another, flushed and wild eyed. “We’re going back to the dorms,” Pyrrha stated, standing and walking shakily over to Jaune’s body, which stood still, “And when we get there, I’m going to suck you until you blow, then, you’re going to fuck me though the bed. And we’re not going to stop until both of us can’t move.” she husked, her voice thick with desire as she fixed Jaune’s head back in place.
“Y-yeah. Sounds great.” Jaune huffed, the full feeling of his throbbing cock hitting him now, having been hard and ignored for at least fifteen minutes. Licking his lips and savoring the last of Pyrrha’s flavor, he grabbed her hand, and they both left the training room, intent on spending as much time as they could becoming closer to one another...and damn whoever got in their way this time.
