To clarify, "Line 4" just means "another fork in the timeline caused by Zelda not sending Link back in time at the end of OoT". Mainline would be the Child timeline where Link's spent gods-know-how-long wandering around outside Hyrule; I think they would've both changed too much as people for it to work.

WW Zelink ranks where it does because I really don't care about the Wind Waker line, but, yeah, it makes sense.

TP is where it is because they kind of live in different worlds and won't have much chance to stay in touch, but I could see them being polite pen pals. And Zelda probably looks out for him when he has to attend the odd castle function, which she rarely makes him do; I suspect most of them were in the years right after Twilight Princess went down, particularly when the Gerudo circled back around to the border with Hyrule and So Much Explaining Had To Happen.

ALttP is where it is because I ship Link/Marin, haha. Link does initially mistake Marin for Zelda, though...

Oh man a ship that is a blast from the past!

Makes sense and compels me (I mean it would have to if I was going to ship them with Ming Xiao in a poly relationship! XD)

But yeah, while they don't have a lot moments in canon together what they did have and how they talk about each other really gives a nice spark of an idea of a tasty enemies to lovers ship. LaCroix and Nines contrast each other so well, their strengths are what the other wants but to have them they would have to be willing to admit things about themselves they don't want to.

To be loved as Nines is, LaCroix would have to admit that the Camarilla way isn't the best way to lead an city, he has to be kinder and braver to be the kind of Prince LA needs. To really make LA something Nines would have to be willing to be ambitious and maybe a little more selfish as LaCroix is to see that the Anarchs need a leader to really bring them all together and he has to be willing to take the plunge.

But they also see each other's weakeness in turn reflects their fears, Nines sees LaCroix's selfishness and fears ever becoming like him if he chose to be a leader. LaCroix see Nines' unwillingness to take more of what he's 'owed' and rejection of the Camarilla's rules as a weakness and despite his issues with the Camarilla he clearly fears the unknown should he ever break away from the sect.

They are repulsed by each other and yet drawn together that's how I see their relationship, they want to see how the other has the nerve to live as they do.

LaCroix and Nines have the potential make each other better or make each other worse but either way LA and LaCroix and Nines would never be the same after their coupling.

I really love how fandom plays around with this ship, and honestly I'm surprised that I was still able to sort of wax poetically about it too, they still mean a lot to me.

So yeah OTP but with Ming Xiao OT3 cause oh man when you add her to the mix... XD

anyway thank you for the ask on this ship it was fun reflecting on it again, it was kind of nostalgic.

At first I thought I wouldn't like BG3, or it would be too hard, but if I can shoot and shred my heart through the Mass Effect trilogy, then I think I'll be fine. From the sound of things, I would enjoy a Karlach Origin run and a Beckett run! 😄😄😄

That list is pretty vague and impressionistic for me, but about half a dozen at any given time, I would say.

I need Astarion learning he can spider crawl on the ceiling, and then completely fucking with everyone. Everyone’s helms keep coming off their heads when they’re walking out the door? Astarion is failing at trying so hard not to laugh and give himself away. Lae’zel, Shadowheart, Gale, and Halsin’s hair keeps coming undone? Astarion is being a little shit again and stealing the ribbons/clips that hold them in place! Wyll and Karlach discovering their horns now have ridiculous looking ornaments/bells hanging off them? Astarion stole a bag from a shop and thought the two could use some more decoration!

I need Gale to decide that its time to remind everyone in camp where the real power is, and cast a protection spell on himself that makes him immune to intense heat, while making dinner as spicy as fuck! Then he can sit around calmly while everyone else is either crying about how they’re going to die, or rushing to dunk their entire head in the Chionthar

I need Halsin deciding he’s had enough of Minthara’s ‘Drow are so superior’ talk and secretly instructing everyone to act as if all is normal, while leaving an increasing amount of carved ducks around her tent area. Every time she enters/leaves her tent there are more and more freaking ducks!! And then she wakes one morning to find herself covered in them and her bedroll floating in the middle of the river!!

I need Shadowheart and Karlach to go around while everyone’s asleep and use her makeup to draw dicks and other offensive things on everyone else's faces, but then to make sure they aren’t caught, they do it to each other but it's super obvious they were the culprits cause they’re the only ones with compliments on their faces

I need Jaheira to absolutely misuse vine whip as an improvised leash so that keeping these stupid children she’s been saddled with from running off to die ridiculous deaths will be easier

HAAVOITTUNUT ENKELI (WOUNDED ANGEL): It's my favourite painting of all time. Something about an angel, a divine being, being injured for whatever reason makes my heart break. But the fact that she's actively being helped by humans does soften the blow a little. Even if our human world is so cruel that it's able to hurt an angel, there are also kind people who are willing to help heal. The painting makes me feel very melancholic but tender and sentimental. Breath of the Wild

What made you ship it? This is the first Zelda game I finished where I felt like Nintendo was Really Shipping Them. I am aware that it's happened before (Skyward, arguably Zelda NES/Adventure of Link), but: one I finished. As such they're written like they're slowly falling for each other and I ate it up this time.

What are your favorite things about the ship? I want to give both of them so many hugs and I will settle for them giving each other hugs. I feel like Link brings out a nicer side of Zelda once she stops being a green-eyed monster about him and settles into a green-eyed friend and lover. Also I've read some smokin' hot smut of them I feel they would be able to help each other navigate their burgeoning sexuality in interesting ways.

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship? Not sure? Ocarina of Time

What made you ship it? Well you see the thing is I only ship it in an AU where Zelda never sends Link back in time at the end of the game. In this setting I think Link would make an unconventional and very cool king, but more importantly a great friend to Zelda and wonderful father.

What are your favorite things about the ship? Ocarina Zelda and Link have Fascinating Gender Fuckery going on (more obviously in Zelda's case, but note that Link is dressed in a mix of the Kokiri's gendered clothing), and in general in an AU where Link stayed behind I just think it'd be cute.

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship? I don't think it would work if Zelda did send him back. Even if Link returned to Hyrule one day, just... I think they'd have grown apart in the intervening years.

Don’t Ship It

Twilight Princess

Why don’t you ship it? I don't know, man, they barely interact, and while this hasn't stopped me from shipping other things, I just don't see it. I can see them remaining distant friendly acquaintances, but after the game I see Zelda going back to being Queen and Link eventually settling back down in Ordon.

What would have made you like it? Interacting more but that would have broken the storyline, so.

Despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it? Sure! Like I say, I think they'd be good distant friends, and I reckon that when Sir Link of Ordon has to attend important castle functions or diplomatic events with the neighbours (I imagine the next time they met the Gerudo it was Pretty Awkward), Zelda watches out for him.

Honourable mentions: Games I either played but didn't beat or don't think about much, or ones where I have no strong opinions on Zelink:

Wind Waker: Yeah sure, Link was probably the Pirate King of New Hyrule or something

NES: I bet the succession of that whole situation got fucky real quick. But then again, Link has two hands. Then again again, the kisses might've just been "It is the 80's."

A Link to the Past: I ship the star-crossed lovers ship of Link/Marin, but then again Marin reminded Link of Zelda, so. Maybe?

Skyward Sword: I didn't even beat the game and I know it ships Link and Zelda hard and that Link becomes the first King of Hyrule.

Minish Cap: Provisionally friend-ship because they are friends and I don't really see any signs of puppy love there. Who knows once they get older.

Jan Pieterzoon, he's at number five since the best I've read about him was in the epilogue that wasn't by Gherbod Fleming and gave me a ton of feels. I really like the idea of a Ventrue that actually believes in the noble oblige the clan is meant to have, and the struggles he has to deal with his feeding restriction and having a sire that constantly mindwipes him and tricked him into destroying things that could've protected the world from Gehenna and how angry he was when he found out the truth. I have to admit I like his potential that is expanded on in fandom rather in canon XD

Lettow Kaminsky from vtm: nightroad, I really enjoyed Lettow as a character and romance option in nightroad, it was refreshing to have a Camarilla Prince who was both a Gangrel and also trying his damnest to do right by those he was responsible for, even when things are falling apart or when things get harder and harder to be morally good. Of course he isn't morally perfect, he still has some shadiness but that'd what you need in order to survive in the World of Darkness, though he tries to be fair especially to the courier. Also his annoyed filled banter with Juilan is really funny! XD

D’Angelo from vtm: Coteries of New York and Shadows of New York

D' Angelo was one of the higlights of my first playthrough of Coteries and honestly for me his story was one of the strongest in that game. I love that he narrates like an old noir detective(though in this case its him narrating like the main character of his novel) and he really does try to do the right thing even when it can backfire on him and remade himself to help cope with his unlife. He really is interesting and would love to see more of him in later games or in the New York by Night web series.

Ecaterina the Wise more specially from Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption, although her place in vtm canon is really interesting too. I found Ecaterina an really interesting character in seeing how a person's idealism can take them into some messy places, and her understandable hatred does leave her to joining the Sabbat(which at the beginning weren't so bad but got worse as time went on). She definitely has the scholarly mindset of the older Brujah while also having the passion of the younger Brujah. In the dark ages parts of Redemption she was a sort of good sire to Christof (despite embracing him against his will and all) but its interesting how the years had changed her so much where to the point when they reunite in the modern nights, (we find out in the 'Bad ending' of Shadows of New York) she has Christof break Hana's jaw so she could be Ecaterina's double which is all kinds of screwed up.

Julia Sowinski from vtm: shadows of new york

Julia is one of the most interesting and relatable protagonists I've played in a vtm game where you don't get to design your character. From her depression, her struggles in the world of darkness and her slowly troubled relationship with her human girlfriend Dakota, I couldn't help but feel for her and relate a little as well. I also enjoyed her sarcastic humor and her observations of the world around her, her interactions with the other characters, her banter and relationship with Qadir al-Asmai was the most enjoyable. There is a lot I could say but that would be getting into too many spoilers and I still need to play through the 'Good ending'

Phew, that was tricky but I hope this answered your question and this was fun to think through why I like each character a lot.

Hi friend! Thank you for playing this game with me. I kept this ask as a talisman all yesterday, knowing I would have time to answer it today! :D

I ship all of these! Not in the "makes brain go brrrr" way, but more in the "my friends really like this and I love watching my friends experience joy" way. A perk of having such creative tumblr friends is I get to frolic and ramble in all the worlds they write down and make art of.

1)What made you ship it?

Nod Squad OT3 caught my attention because like, what do you mean there are actual canon friends in the World of Darkness? Who are they? What are doing? Then, uh, Beckett happened. XD I started liking Beckett/Sascha largely because of your skyline series, and hours of chatting on Discord. After playing Bloodlines, I wasn't in the mood for Nines/LaCroix to do anything besides barbecue Ventrue Tower. Then, the sheer amount of meta, fic, and art convinced me. And of course Ming Xiao comes too.

Julia/Dakota is a little different. I ship it because they're canon in the game. It would take A LOT for me to designate a canon lesbian romance as NOTP. [spoiler] When Dakota put on Julia's clothes, I thought it was the classic romantic thing of wearing a partner's clothes because one misses them. Dakota mentions she misses Julia earlier, even. Then I was puzzled on how they both have the same trouser AND blouse size (and wondered if it was simply storytelling convenience or sexism thinking all attractive woman are one shape). Then I mentally chided Julia for being angry way out of proportion; then I remembered compassion and reminded myself of Julia's ambient stress levels. I didn't get the scene was meant to be like, sinister or relationship-breaking until the game ended and I looked up Single White Female's ending.[end spoiler]

2) What are your favorite things about the ship?

Reverse order. I love Julia and Dakota's color symmetry and the fact they exist. Nines/LaCroix is like watching one of those videos of a great ape recognizing themself in a mirror (the melting of anger to wonder, tenderness). Beckett/Sascha because I love a recovery. Nod Squad for the banter and the humor.

3) Is there an unpopular opinion you have on the ship?

The tumblr VtM fandom regulars are like, 2 people per continent on Earth, so IDK if it's possible to have an obvious unpopular shipping opinion. I guess LaCroix/Nines numbers are up there, but it's defo not as popular as shipping an OC with a Bloodlines character. I will say that I wanted all the Shadows of New York Steam achievements, but I didn't want to play the Good Ending, so I had my rather Lasombra-like friend play it for me. XD
