Harry glanced back for a moment, no hint of recognition of the soulbond on his face, just a cold, hard look, before he turned on his heel and began walking away from him. Louis knew he should call Harry back to him, should explain what had just happened. But the bond that had only formed on his own side made him hesitate.
His soulmate didn’t want him.
He could tell Harry the truth and let his protective alpha instincts kick in. Harry would never condemn anyone to the slow, excruciating death of a rejected soul bond, even someone like Louis. But then Louis would have to live with the knowledge that his soulmate would rather have chosen anyone but him if given the choice.
He couldn’t do it. His soulmate deserved a chance at happiness, one that did not include him. Instead, he watched his soulmate walk away from him, further and further into the distance until he turned a corner and disappeared from sight.

If I had a nickel for every time Ben Barnes portrayed a morally gray villain in a Netflix show who got his face terribly scarred at the very end of the first season, and also got his girlfriend a bouquet of blue irises, I'd have two nickels. It isn't much, but it's weird that it happened twice.
I was tagged by @boosbabycakes28 (thank youuu!) to post a snippet from my wip. This is from my angsty, soulmates sickfic for @1domegaverseficfest
His stiff posture unchanged, Harry’s jaw twitched before he spoke. “I don’t know what you expect me to say. All is forgiven? Because it’s—.”
Harry uncrossed his arms, his tote bag falling to the pavement. Even though this conversation was clearly not going in the direction Louis had hoped, he instinctively reached down to pick the bag off the ground.
“Nothing’s forgiven, Louis,” Harry snapped, snatching the bag from Louis’ grasp. His fingers brushed Louis’ for only a moment. “If you want to make anything better, just leave me alone.”
The force that flowed through Louis’ fingers knocked him a bit sideways, causing him to stumble. At first he thought Harry had shoved him away, but in the next instant a burning pain seared up his arm. He clutched it in confusion, looking back at Harry as though for answers, but he’d already turned away from him.
Dread filled his heart.
This had been the moment Louis had been waiting for all his life, his soulmate’s touch bonding them to one another forever. Louis can feel the bond, an invisible string between them tying its knot only to immediately be sliced through with Harry’s rejection of it.
“Sorry to bother you then,” Louis managed to croak out.
