Another 5 Character Types the World Needs More of (Part 3)
Part 1 Part 2
I did not expect these two posts to continue getting notes. So. Here’s some that didn’t make the cut and a few new ones.
1. Character who is immune to everyone else’s bullshit
This can either be funny or a breath of fresh air. I’m talking your drama cast of 15 all losing their minds over “he said/she said” and fixating on so many ridiculous and arbitrary problems… meanwhile Chuck over here is skinned with teflon and completely immune to tropes like manufactured miscommunication or drama, who’s juuust shy of being genre savvy to Get Shit Done like this is their second time around the block and they are not happy to be back.
The first one to pop into my head is Soundwave from TFP. He has no voice actor for 99% of the show and doesn’t have a face and is only the focus character for like, 2 episodes, but whenever he’s on screen you can just see “I’m surrounded by idiots” playing on repeat in his head. This con is brutally efficient, never messes up, and is never wrong and while everyone else is caught up on ladder-climbing and revenge quests, Soundwave is over here vibing and keeping the whole cause together.
2. The Femme Fatale, but a man
This is not sexy suave abusive asshole hero you’re supposed to root for, who’s a male power fantasy. This is literally the exact same trope, but a man. Meaning, he gets the same revealing uniform, the same “I’m letting you think you’re in charge but really I’m pulling all the strings”. Crucially, he’s straight, because most of them are gay-coded (because the man being in the submissive, ‘girly role’ is horrifying, he must be gay). This dude weaponizes toxic masculinity, making the villains extremely uncomfortable and throwing the villain’s own power fantasy back in their face.
This dude unabashedly flirts with his captors just to get in their heads, removes all concepts of personal space, and makes straight villains seriously question their sexuality. He has social engineering down to a science. I’m sure there’s one that exists, but every one I can think of is already queer-coded and that’s not good enough. So just. Black Widow. But a man.
3. Mary Sue/ Gary Stu who becomes the villain
Since these characters are the product of insecurity and lack of self-awareness… the example for this trope is Titan from Megamind. This character is absolutely the hero of their own story, practically perfect in every way. They think they’re the best at everything without trying, flawless in features and personality, and everybody loves them. And genuinely, they are just that good.
So good, that they live long enough to become the villain. Obviously people who write Mary Sues with full sincerity have no idea that anything’s wrong or problematic, but a genuine Mary Sue whose perfection is their greatest flaw without them even realizing it would be an interesting villain because I’m getting sick and tired of “sympathetic” villains who are really starting to feel like excuses for abusers to be abusive because they were smacked around as a kid.
4. Paragon who is wrong, but also right?
Apparently I’m in a Transformers mood today. There’s an episode where the Autobots’ medic/second in command does the whole “desperate scientist tests their invention on themselves with horrible results” trope and he gains the strength and speed he otherwise hasn’t had in like, eons, and starts kicking ass and taking names (and committing war crimes) to the point where his team is like “uh, buddy, slow down a bit, you’re starting to act like a Decepticon”.
The best part of that episode is where Ratchet (medic) completely unloads on Optimus about how he’s too soft, about how he’s had a million chances to end the war and murder Megatron (which is true) and yet Optimus lets the window pass again and again still hoping for Megatron’s redemption… while in the process, countless Autobots keep dying, collateral keeps happening, all because Optimus is stubborn and won’t just get it over with.
We know Ratchet is right, because throughout the next season, Optimus is a bit more… shall we say, ruthless, in trying to legitimately end the war, Megatron’s redemption be damned. But that episode ends with Ratchet nearly dying when trying to kill Megatron himself, and understanding that the Autobots are Autobots for a reason, because they’re “good,” and sinking to the enemy’s level won’t be a good foundation for a peaceful post-war survival of their species. Point being, sometimes being a Paragon is an incredibly selfish virtue.
5. Parents who know what’s up
So, while I am a firm supporter in the dead parent cliché because parents are super inconvenient sometimes, when it’s not that kind of story and the parents are a big part of the plot… while also being idiots (like Disney and Nickelodeon sitcoms circa 2008), just to make the kids sound smarter, it’s just been done to death. Everything you could think of, your parents probably did when they were your age so having competent parents in the plot as a well-meaning obstacle that continues to surprise the hero is pretty rare in stuff like YA. Usually it’s “I must lie to them to keep them safe” meanwhile Sally Jackson is over here murdering her husband with Medusa’s severed head.
They don’t have to join the hero team, but parents painted as bumbling idiots is a disservice to the mischievous teenagers they used to be. Or just the parent who really does know the kid better than they do, like when kids anxiously come out and the parent is like “honey I knew since you were 3 let’s go get ice cream”. I didn't watch Glee but that one dad who was like "son all you wanted was a pair of sensible shoes, I knew." So yeah. Smart parents. More please.

Goodbye Earth - 9/10
This show was NOT what I expected. The basic premise is that in 200 days from the start of the drama, an asteroid (similar in size to the one that killed that dinosaurs) is going to hit Earth, and the Korean peninsula is one of the areas that will be completely obliterated. So I thought this was going to be a show about survival and maybe like about the triumph of human ingenuity. And well, it's not that. lmao. But it was VERY good. I think this one is going to sit with me for a while. At its core, the show is about human nature, relationships, and community. It brings up questions about inequality, morality and religion. There are definitely some moments of action, but overall the show feels more contemplative and shines in the quieter moments.
Tumblr media
The central figure of the show is Se-kyung, a woman who was a homeroom teacher at a middle school. In the days following the asteroid announcement, riots and civil war broke out. In that chaos, criminals abducted kids with the intent to traffic them, many of them dying in the shipping containers they were put in. Out of her homeroom class, only 3 of her students survived the chaos and as a result, Se-kyung becomes fully devoted to protecting her remaining students and ensuring they can live out whatever time they have left in safety. So there is definitely this revenge overtone, but also like, the idea of self-sacrifice. Sang-eun, Se-kyung's fiancé, was in the US (a safe zone) when the asteroid's collision was announced. He's a scientist with knowledge and skills that are desirable so he is basically given a pass to live. He wants to save Se-keyung too so he returns to Korea to bring her back with him. Remaining behind means certain death, but could they live with themselves if they abandon those who need them? Is the purpose of humanity just to survive or is there some other greater purpose?
The Catholic church is a central figure in this drama in a REALLY fascinating way. It's not an unequivocal good because we do see corruption in the institution and also how religiously motivated homophobia can damage people. BUT the local church also functions as a pillar of support for the neighborhood. Not just in practical ways like feeding people but also in the community and human relationships the church provides. Traditional religion and cults are both part of how different groups process being faced with inevitable destruction. Is faith increased? Decreased? Is the real faith the belief we have in the strength of our communities and human relationships? IDK. It's something the show encourages you to think about.
I would say that the one quibble I have is that I think the final episode could have been maybe 10 minutes longer? Idk. I get why they chose to end the show how they did. I also think that the decision to start the show kinda 'in media res' was questionable. It took a while for me to fully understand who all the characters were and how things had gotten to the current state so I think exposition could have been done better.

Well, the ParaLive anime certainly…ended
Not sure if I feel like getting screencaps so I’ll post my thoughts below
Pros:
-I liked seeing Haruomi being more proactive in investigating why Paradox Live came back & him reclaiming Chisei’s medal from Scientist-kun
-The idea of Phantometals being sentient metal that could only thrive on trauma makes for some great sci-fi horror
-Episode 3’s my favorite. I’m biased towards TCW as a group as a whole, but the full episode really showed their dynamics well
-1st episode’s set up & animation was great
-I actually like the hot springs episode since that gives the characters room to breathe outside of the stage battles
-Shiki getting his own gospel part of the rap to save Kanata was nice
-On that note, Fadeaway was a great original song that worked in place of Rooftop
Cons:
-Holy shit AKYR got screwed over hard in terms of story. I think the member with the most development was Satsuki. Iori could’ve also investigated behind the scenes with Zen and that would be how they found out about Shura. They even had a repeat of their main dance sequence. Poor guys. I appreciate more Hokusai screen time but him just telling important moments could’ve been better presented
-Yeaaaaaaaah the 3D animation definitely downgraded after episode 1. I was willing to look past TCW’s for, again, bias, but every group aside from BAE felt stiff. I know the focus is their Phantometal illusions & raps, but I feel like they could’ve used the music video visuals as reference. Episode 12’s was just wonky
-Scientist-kun as I call him I felt had promise as a villain but he went nowhere. If he was going for the benevolent savior route a la Maruki I could understand why he’d want to “become one” and forget all traumas. Or if he was batshit insane and thought that trauma powered Phantometal could act as an energy source. That could’ve worked in the Yeon Conglomerate’s favor, and they could get trauma easily through a group like the Suiseki. Hell if he turned out to be Chisei trying to bring back the old days that would’ve been great for the endinf!
-so. nayuta was in a coma but then just. popped up at the end. He did that in the audio dramas, sure, but I was kinda hoping Shura would bust in and save him
-aside from shiki we never got TCW’s traumas did we. Or Zen’s.
-I feel like this adaptation should’ve either stayed completely faithful to the audio dramas (probably have an OC that’s like an interviewer to act as the surrogate audience) or did their own thing entirely. They tried to mix both and it felt jumbled/rushed as a result. Granted, can’t expect 24 episodes in 1 season these days, unless we’re REALLY lucky, but I would’ve had like 3 episodes dedicated to each group with some sprinklings of lore in the background myself. 1 episode to introduce the group, and 2 episodes for their stage battles (with possibly in between times to show the inner workings of AT)
-And now for the elephant in the room: boy howdy was this BAE focused way too much! Specifically Allen. Again I know we need a lead, but lessons were recycled because of this focus and it felt silly at the end to rap at blob Kanata. like sir as a distinguished fan of hip-hop how do you not know what trap music is
Overall I know for a fact if a season 2 is made that the new groups are going to be screwed over big time in spite of 1NM8 being relevant for AT, Amprule for BAE, and GokuLuck being in the finals for Road to Legend!!!!!!!!

Huh nim, not about jaedo but have you taken the mbti test yet? Let me guess you might be an Xstj? (I know you seem neither have interests in mbti nor believe in it though😂, so if you don’t wanna talk about it just ignore it) I’m curious about your result because I really appreciate the logical way you analyze jaedo, and how you organize your observations and opinions really clear, and take all the real-world conditions into consideration, not just making up some love stories. You know a lot of jaedo shippers just see jaedo as a very childish and irrational couple, going through a lot of dramas and conflicts like two characters from kdrama, which I just can’t relate at all haha.
I don't think MBTI is a complete hoax. Brains do differ, and it's possible to divide them into categories. Naturally, any classification will be pretty loose. An MBTI type doesn't describe an individual fully, just explains what the brain of this person prioritizes, how it deals with the information, and so on. However, there is no "species" as a unit of life in reality, biologists still find this term very useful.
I do not trust the online tests though: they are too short with bad questions. As well as people self-identifying (biased and don't really know themselves) or others trying to do it looking at the "vibe" (easy to be mistaken).
And I do not trust idols' official MBTIs because: a) they take the short tests, b) they have motivation to lie for their image (in SK some types are considered more desireable: friendly, hardworking, etc).
I'm INTP-T, and a very clear one (I'm even a scientist in real life). It has never changed since childhood. You guessed one letter, heh.
I think the usefullness of MBTI type of systems is that people can comprehend and accept that other people think differently. And sometimes get the "keys" to "why?".
Have you seen the MokChu episode with Johnathan? In the comments most of the fans wrote how they started to see the guest in another light. Johnathan wasn't behaving differently from the way he MCs: he laughed non-stop, didn't care for his image much (like gulping cola glass after glass). It is his daily habits and his interests (the love for Korean history, the thoughts about enjoying the life while young because the life is fleeting), that reveiled his depth. It is the same with JaeDo and with most neos: one needs to spend time to get to know an idol, invest in memorisation of facts about him, retain all of the information, not only that that fits the desireable picture. Otherwise people just see constructs (Doyoung as a babygirl), invent stories (JaeDo as an irrational couple (what? heh)), or gloss over some core traits (Do's fans are constantly reminded he is witty and sassy, however, they omit this trait when they build his character for themselves, don't think how these traits influence the rest).
Yesterday YT gave me a video of DEI nominee US judges going through a comittee. Once again my worldview was overthrown because I still can't comprehend how judges like Kelly Hodge exist and are allowed to decide fates of other people. My logical brain just breaks faced with the reality of how the modern world is ran by emotional and irrational people...
But back to shippers. The majority of shippers are interested in shipping as an entertainment, a fun activity. They don't expect their chosen ship to be real, and most don't care to stick to IC. Drama is fun, stereotyping simplifies things, the constant worry about the ship breaking up provides an emotional roller coaster. In the first place, shipping as an activity in public (discussion, fanwars) is attractive for emotional and social people. People who are more logical (who are usually introverts) don't see the need to go into those spaces and argue, participate, share their thoughts. As a result, you don't see them.

I will often tell people to write casting calls with intention, which I realize is a rather opaque phrase. What does casting with intention mean?
Well I, uh, wrote a lot about it.
Let’s say you have and audio drama with some male characters, some female characters, and a robot that has a human voice but is not human (the robot uses it/its pronouns because it is an object). You split up the roles in your casting call to “male roles” and “female roles” and then… where does this robot go? Maybe you think to yourself, I’ve always pictured this robot with a male voice. Let’s put it in the male roles section and be done.
When I say “cast with intention” I mean to question your expectations and assumptions and look critically at what sort of voices you want for each character. There is no singular right way to do so this, so I’m going to take this example and discuss different ways to cast with intention.
First of all, something is apparent. In this situation, there are no nonbinary roles. Every role is either a cis man or a cis woman — not necessarily bad, but in this situation the robot has even been assigned to the “male” category. Why is that, I ask? So you might think, yeah, I’m not actually attached to this robot having a male voice. Let’s make this a nonbinary role.
And now you’ve accidentally stumbled into a trope! Lots of creators have made non-human characters (like aliens, robots, or monsters) and decided that the gender binary need not apply only to these characters. Nonbinary people are tired of the implications that you can’t be human and nonbinary, so that’s not a great thing to do. If you’re going to create a “Nonbinary Roles” section for this robot, it would be a good thing to have some nonbinary humans there as well.
But if this robot could have any voice, why not make it a open role? And while you’re at it, why not look at the other human characters and see if any of them could be open roles too. There are a lot of scenarios where you want a character to have a specific gender, and what casting with intention means is looking at what you have for each of them and thinking about why you decided that gender for the character. Is someone female because you wanted to show a woman in tech being an awesome scientist? Cool! Is someone male because they’re the CEO and you just thought the CEO should be male? Less cool! That CEO could probably be a role with open casting. Or maybe, you thought of a really interesting angle for the story if that CEO is nonbinary, or transmasc, or a cis woman — also great! Being intentional about your roles doesn’t mean making them all open casting, it means having a reason why you’re looking for a certain voice (or set of voices) or each one.
For example, what if this robot started the show as genderless and inhuman, but grew over time to connect more with humanity? What people start using he/him for this robot instead of it/its as they get to know it better and started to think of him as a friend? I think that would be really compelling! That might be a good reason for the robot to be listed under “Male Roles” (though, of course, the question of “why not she/her pronouns?” is there still and should be something you can answer — maybe you want to be different than robots and AIs like Siri or Cortana, which are usually voiced by women.)
There is absolutely no one correct way to cast with intention — the whole idea is about the process, not the result. When you list a role in a casting call, take a moment to think about why you’ve written each piece of information you give about the character and the voice you want. You might find that you’re artificially limiting yourself from telling more interesting stories and casting more diverse actors.

Divergent (2014)
Tumblr media
Divergent is a post-apocalyptic adventure film populated by teenagers, meant for teenagers and conceived by teenagers - at least that's what it feels like. Even if you can get past the story’s rickety premise, you'll be constantly reminded of other, better movies you'd rather be watching.
In a post-war future, only the city of Chicago remains. Society is divided into five factions: Abnegation (humble people who are in charge of governing the society and ensuring everyone has enough to eat), Amity (farmers), Candor (judges and lawmakers, known for their brutal honesty), Dauntless (the thrill-seeking, bungee-jumping tattoo-clad police and army) and Erudite (the scientists). When it comes time for Beatrice “Tris” Prior (Shailene Woodley) to take the test that determines which faction she belongs to, the results are inconclusive. Rather than expose herself as “Divergent”, she chooses Dauntless. As she trains to meet the demanding requirements of her new “family”, she discovers a massive conspiracy to overtake the government.
On paper, the concept may not seem so unbelievable but seeing it live raises many questions. People are categorized at the age of 16 and their personalities remain static forever? And we're supposed to believe the snooty know-it-all Erudite people are the ones fixing the high-tech wall surrounding the city from impending attack (from what, exactly?) Or are the farmers also serving as plumbers and garbage men? Perhaps the factionless - shambling, miserable wretches who are alternatively pitied and hated by the rest - are the ones running gas stations and such. What I’m saying is that the five factions we see don’t seem like enough to run a city. You simply don’t believe the world this film is set in.
Moving past what would ultimately be nitpicking if the story and characters were engaging, we have Triss, a vanilla protagonist who struggles to pass the various physical and mental tests demanded by sexy instructor “Four” (Theo James). It’s by-the-books high school business with the generic bully (Miles Teller as Peter), the romantic drama and the best friend who also didn't expect to join the fun-loving faction that seems more concerned with tattoos than actual law enforcement (Zoë Kravitz as Christina). Except the stakes are higher because if Tris fails her exam, she’ll end up family-less and homeless.
Tumblr media
It culminates in a confrontation between Tris and a few individuals against – of course – the “smart faction” who has used mind control technology to turn the Dauntless into robots and is slaughtering every member of Abnegation. It’s one of those films where you almost wish you could see the villains win and find out what would happen next. I don’t know if the factions are supposed to be balanced in terms of numbers – I don't think so as a quarter of the new Dauntless recruits have been banished to the factionless slums after failing the leaders’ outrageous demands - but if there’s a group that’s smaller than the rest, it’s got to be the “smarter than everyone else” people. Had their plan succeeded… what was their next move? Were they just going to expect everyone else in Chicago to be ok with the wholesale slaughter of the previous politicians? Would the police have been kept under mind control forever? It’s one thing to spread rumors and shake people’s beliefs in the government, it’s another to wipe out a fifth of the human population!
Tumblr media
Despite the numerous problems with the story, you can see why this tale has appeal to its intended audience. The scenes of Tris using her wits to pass her exams in a way that doesn’t reveal her “out-of-the-box Divergent thinking” are interesting. Shailene Woodley is a compelling lead. Neither of these would ever make you watch Divergent over Harry Potter or the very similar Hunger Games, however. (On Blu-ray, September 7, 2018)

BLOGTOBER 10/11/2022: MONKEY SHINES
MONKEY SHINES drives me crazy for the sole, stupid reason that for much of my life, I have been walking the earth assuming that it is a Stephen King adaptation. This is absolutely not true. I'm sure I just think this because of George Romero's frequent collaboration with King, and because its famous poster so has the bold, exaggerated look of pulp horror covers from the 1980s. MONKEY SHINES is adapted from a novel by British author Michael Stewart, but the screenplay is by Romero himself. It is entirely possible that by 1988, a lot of King's style and approach may have rubbed off on the director, so maybe I'm not completely crazy for harboring this delusion: it's got psychic powers, a domestic animal that goes berserk, and small town drama overlayed with outrageous sci-fi and horror elements. But still, it bugs me that I thought this. I should know better!
Tumblr media
MONKEY SHINES is a deeply weird movie that passes for normal due its above-par production value, fine performances, name brand actors, and naturalistic dialog. Perhaps also in the heyday of writers like King and Michael Crichton, this wacky sci-fi thriller, about a paraplegic who forms a corrupting psychic link with his helper monkey, didn't seem so unusual. But inside of this mainstream thriller is a freaky psychodrama with which Freud would have had a field day.
A Capuchin helper monkey named Ella enters the life of law student Allan Mann (Jason Beghe) when an accident renders him paralyzed from the neck down. His days are brightened by Ella's surprising competence and seemingly personal affection for Allan—and by the arrival of her trainer Melanie (Kate McNeil), who also develops personal feelings for Allan. However, the deeper Ella and Allan's bond grows, the more Allan is given over to emotion, struggling to control his escalating rage. Eventually it comes out that Ella is a test subject for an experimental drug, and as the resulting mind meld with Allan makes him more animal than man, it also enables Ella to act out Allan's wrathful impulses.
Tumblr media
Somehow the monkey part of the movie isn't as bizarre as the interpersonal drama. When Allan becomes paralyzed, his whole existence turns into a power struggle with the women in his life. His plight begins when he is cuckolded by his own surgeon, and without his girlfriend around to help out, his mother Dorothy (Joyce Van Patten) forces her way into the house. Dorothy forms a sort of infantilizing tag team with the pious Nurse Maryanne (Christine Forrest, Romero's then-wife and frequent collaborator), from whom Melanie and Ella have to defend Allan. Where Maryanne is a castrating school marm type, Dorothy is inappropriately intimate with her son, insisting on bathing him and trying to drive out his new girlfriend. Melanie is mainly worried about Allan's increasing loss of civility…and also, perhaps, about Ella's increasing possessiveness. The monkey is firmly the other woman. There are male antagonists in the film—ambitious, inhumane scientists played by Stanley Tucci and Stephen Root—but they tend to take a back seat to Allan's conflicts with women. From his wheelchair-bound position, Allan needs to literally grow up, wresting power back from his nurse, putting his mother in her place, and choosing a mature relationship over the regressive, obsessive affair with the monkey.
Tumblr media
MONKEY SHINES may look like a regular mainstream movie of the period, but with all that going on, it has more in common with a neurotic exploitation movie like THE BABY, or SOMETIMES AUNT MARTHA DOES DREADFUL THINGS, or BUTCHER, BAKER, NIGHTMARE MAKER. This may not be the sort of place where you normally expect to find a bunch of psychoanalytic rumination, but it's sure in there, and it's part of what makes MONKEY SHINES so surprising. That, and the fact that it's not a Stephen King movie.
Tumblr media
But, there is one more thing about MONKEY SHINES the surprised me, personally. When I first started dating my husband some eleven years ago, we hit it off immediately, but we seemed like a pretty unlikely pair. I was (am) an inverted little horror ghoul, and he was almost aggressively normal: a friendly, handsome data specialist who liked beer, bikes, and coffee, and whose cultural tastes skewed just a little indie. I wasn't sure what I could have to offer such a person, but on our third date, he made an effort to reach across the aisle by informing me that when he was a kid, his mother's therapist was the former owner of one of the monkeys in MONKEY SHINES. We don't know if it was the star, Boo, or one of the lab extras (probably the latter), but this therapist had a framed lobby card mounted on his waiting room wall featuring the movie's shocking key art. My husband used to have to stare at it while he was waiting for his mother's appointment to end, and when he finally asked about it, he learned that the doctor used to have one of the movie's animal performers. When my then-new boyfriend told me this, I nearly fell out of my chair, and we've been laughing about it ever since.

EVEN MORE RGVERSE OC BIOS GOOD GRIEF THERE'S LIKE 64 OF THESE BITCHES NOW
uh huh
this also includes the ones who i already have made art of btw. also i redid primeval's bio and added smth into logos' bio a lil so they'll be here too :)
uuuuuuunder the cuttttttt like alwayssssss
• Logos
Emotionless; that's one word to describe her personality. Okay, maybe she's not entirely emotionless, she just has a hard time expressing them, that's all. She's a girl who comes from a rich family, but even money can't buy her happiness. She hates life sometimes, but she tries, she supposes. Little does anyone know, she may have a more higher position in Amazing Mighty's eyes.
• Primeval Texture
A girl who...wasn't exactly a girl before, honestly. She's the result of a science experiment, that involved merging a bunch of random elemental pieces of different textures to become one. Though, the results weren't really expected by the scientists there. As a result, they abandoned her on the Memory Forest when she's still unconscious. Nowadays, she just lives her life to the fullest.
• Technicolour
He was someone who wanted to live a normal life, until that day came. He remembered how his father put him inside of a cube that is apparently called the 'Protection Cube', and how he was left all alone in there, doomed to fall into an eternal sleep...until someone can get him out of there, obviously. He was once a cheerful and happy young boy, but now he's gotten a little more serious, yet still innocent in a way. It's probably because of that really long dream he had during his sleep.
• Ego Eimi
A fallen angel who tries her best to get back up again. She always goes unnoticed by the 'real' angels in The Realm of the Almighty, hence why she always craves for attention in a way. It's her happiness.
• Arghena
Let chaos and destruction destroy this world (and let it start a new one).
• Callima Karma
Tessi's right-hand...err, woman. Also known as; Tessi's assistant. Callima is rather stoic and rarely expresses any other emotion other than passion and rage, passion for her job and rage for that stupid girl who keeps following her around these days.
• Spinel
I'm sorry.
• Conflict
The Goddess of...well, conflict, obviously. What else would it be? Anyways, she has always found entertainment in conflict and drama, and would always spy on the other Gods to see if any conflict sparks up between them. Conflict, too, has some beef with Hikaru.
• Crave Wave
A witch who resides in Modelista City's more quieter parts. He has a certain diary, which he writes every night with things that happened during that day, or maybe how he feels at the moment. He apparently also has a magic book of sorts, because why wouldn't he? Don't worry, though. He's a good witch! He won't hex you or anything~
• Ringed Genesis
A rather pristine and pure being. If you taint his pureness, the dove will put you on the list of people who have disappointed Amazing Mighty and The Testifier. He is...like an angel of sorts. Do you get me?
• DRG
A mysterious music composer who has made a big name for herself in the music industry. Nobody knows her real name, since DRG is just an alias for herself. Nobody knows much about her outside of her music and who she simply is; DRG.
• Aresi
Ars's older sister and the princess of the Cantate Kingdom. She has a strong sense of justice that no other judge or lawyer would have. Instead of wanting to be royalty, she wanted to pursue her dream in becoming a judge instead. Her parents wholeheartedly support her in this, knowing full well they'll just give the future ruler role to Ars instead. He doesn't mind this either, so whatever.
• Lacey
After making things right for her and Tempestissimo, she gives up her goddess powers and the identity of 'The Testifier' and decided to live on as a normal human being by the name 'Lacey'. Together with her new friend Tempestissimo, Lacey sets off on a new journey in her life, ready to see what will come to her next.
• Mantis
A rather...peculiar man. His mysterious aura makes others curious of who he really is, but his menacing and weird aura automatically makes him unapproachable. When he sets his mind on something, he's determined to reach to that goal successfully. He'd do anything, he'd sacrifice anything or anyone, just for one specific goal he has in mind. For the past few years, however, he has been fixated on only one particular goal...
• Larva
Do you remember who you once were?
• Retribution
A tough guy, in Destonio's words. If you even try to do anything bad to him, you'll definitely be met with a fist to your face. He's always serious and radiates a rather...intimidating aura, which makes him unapproachable enough. Though, do you feel something weird?
• Chariot
She may seem like someone who can't defend herself for the life of her, but in reality, she's pretty dangerous. Especially since she's a fucking vampire. Just...don't get on her bad side.
• Melody
A young girl who loves summer and festivals more than anything! When it's not summer, she longs to re-experience the memories she made during summer every year. She also longs to attend summer festivals more, because then she'll be able to watch 'the fireworks of love', as she likes to call it. She just loves summer, even if the weather is super irritatingly hot.
• Dawn
A famous idol from the Astra Kingdom who's popularity has been skyrocketing as of recently. There are rumors going around that she'll replace the late Hikaru's role of being the national idol, which also raises concerns of the rookie idol experiencing the same fate he did years ago. Hopefully that won't happen, though.
• Raven
A very prideful girl, if you will. She can act like she's an otherworldly being, which is...not exactly true, but she's not completely human either, so whatever. Nonetheless, behind her prideful act, lies a lone question; is she really okay?
• Risa
...She is most certainly not human in a sense. That's a joke, though, but still. She acts like she was just born into this world recently, but she's 16, so that's definitely impossible. She is someone who is always curious about the world around her, it's unknown why she's like this, though.
• Unknown Levels
That name is just a made up 'prototype' name for him, because even if he looks human, he's not. His only objective and reason to be alive is to destroy. Destroy what? Not even he knows, but he obliges to [REDACTED GROUP NAME] either way. Because he was made to serve for them, after all.
• Transient Space
She reminds him of Risa's calmness and curiosity, and also of Technicolour's cool vibes and how expressionless Logos is. Someone who is quiet, but is a nice person to be with. She brings peace, like the calm before the storm.
• Nameless Passion
She really is a Nameless Passion of sorts, since she was born out of their passion for something. She reminds him of Unknown Levels' aggressiveness, and also of how Ego Eimi's passion of being someone who is understood can ruin her too. She also reminds him of...Arghena. She scares him. She really does.
• TeraVolt
The Goddess of Weather. The one who controls the weather in this world. She reminds him of how cheerful Dawn is, and how hopeful Primeval Texture is. Though, she also is rather prideful of herself, much like Raven. She is a rather mysterious individual, though...
• Equilibrium
One of the royal guards of the Cantate Kingdom, he has the honor title due to saving Prince Ars' life one time. Equilibrium is probably the youngest of the royal guards. After all, the Cantate's family royal guards are rarely anyone in their 20s, so Equilibrium was easily underestimated for a short period of time. Just like Aresi, he has a strong sense of justice too. He can also be the mediator for any conflict within castle grounds. A royal guard who is befitting for the honor title, after all.
• Stasis
An inventor of the Cantate Kingdom who is close "friends" with Equilibrium. Friends in quotations, by the way. He can be a bit chaotic at times, but when the situation calls for it, he will act serious. He owns a pretty big airship that he built up himself, and when he's bored and needed something to do, he'll always ride on that airship. Y'know, just for fun.
• Destroyer
Oh, she's dangerous.
She'll just shoot you with a beam if she doesn't like you that much, honestly.
oh gos that's lal of them what the ufk

28 Days Haunted
Netflix
this show sucked. we watched this because we love ghosts and ghost hunting shows are fun, but this wasn't even fun in the way that a bad show is sometimes fun.
in 28 Days Haunted, three small groups of ghost hunters have to spend twenty-eight days in three different haunted locations, and investigate the ghosts there every night. luckily, all three groups start getting results and making contact with ghosts immediately, so twenty-eight days is plenty of time to uncover all of the homicide, occult practices, and serial killing that took place here dozens to hundreds of years ago (the timelines are a little non-specific), defeat any evil ghosts hanging around, and send the good ghosts to heaven (a lot of christianity happens in this show) so they can finally rest. netflix isn't paying these guys enough!!
if this sounds like a mocumentary, that's because it almost is. though it's framed as reality, about five minutes in we had to pause and google whether it was supposed to be fictional or not. from what we could find, though, it seems to be a reality show.
my three main critiques of this show are:
they should lean harder into either fiction or reality. if the psychics really were able to accurately discover the details of the murders etc that happened in these buildings, if the cameras really did capture all the cupboard doors swinging open by themselves, or if the spirit boxes really did give such intelligent and informative responses - then that's huge! ghosts are real and all the gadgets and toys used to search for them are real too! you'd think with such compelling evidence gathered, the makers of the show might bring in some scientists to analyse the data, a historian to validate the "1600s metal pentagram" one guy found using his metal detector (it was buried in the only spot in the graveyard with bare earth instead of perfectly manicured grass btw), or even some police or something considering the investigators were smashing their way through decades-old cold cases at speeds Sherlock Holmes could only dream of. you'd think they would show us a shot of the cupboard doors opening without that pesky counter/bar thing that was conveniently in front of them. so what I'm proposing is: if you're not going to let your evidence be cross-examined (or even examined at all in the first place), then lean into the drama of it all. hype it up, turn it into a real-life horror movie. show me the furniture flying around the room instead of already on the floor, having been knocked over off-camera. show me that one guy who nearly got possessed by a demon actually get possessed by a demon. this is not a convinving realite show, so exaggerate it into an entertaining fictional show. right now, it exists in a grey zone somewhere between the two, and it is not interesting as either.
give the audience more to do. a lot of this show makes use of the the lesser-advised dramatic device of 'tell don't show', and happens only for the investigators. we watch psychics sit in empty rooms and tell us there are ghosts standing all around them, we watch investigators listen to the spirit box through headphones and tell us that they are hearing names and full sentences and coherent responses. trust them, they are, you're just not allowed to hear. we are told far too many 'facts' about how ghosts and demons work, with no further context and explanation given. in order to make the show more engaging, explain to us how being psychic works, let us listen to the spirit box too, give us some context as to why xyz is a 'known fact' about ghosts. the audience are expected to take things at face value, and watch the ghost hunters investigate without really being told what they are doing or what their evidence means.
this show is aesthically all over the place. there is no consistency between graphics, colour grading, etc etc. it's like every frame came from a different show.
also to clarify, I believe in ghosts and am always very interested to hear about parapsychology and ghost hunting. this show was just bad.
Tumblr media
picture: ghost stuff. still from the show. (actually koren helmets are pretty interesting and there have been a number of scientific studies attempting to replicate Persinger and Koren's original results. you wouldn't learn that from this show though)

Obvious Metaphors
@thehollowprince I saw your post about people defending the Accords in Captain America: Civil War and I just had to comment more in depth. Some people criticize the MCU for simplistic writing, but I feel that, at a certain point, they have to write for their audience, and parts of it will still miss the theme.
CA: CW's anti-fascist message is literally telegraphed to the audience and people still miss it. Everyone remembers the scene, they put parts of it in the damn trailer. Secretary Ross lists the following disasters "New York, Washington D.C., Sokovia, Lagos ..." and implies that they are the responsibility of the Avengers who fight these battles with no supervision or accountability. The Sokovian Accords are supposed to address this.
Except -- and this is the idea that most people miss -- the Accords wouldn't have prevented a single one of those disasters. In fact, they could have made things significantly worse in most of them.
1. New York. Does anyone argue that Loki wouldn't have invaded Earth with the Chitauri if the Accords were in play? He targeted New York because he needed to use the self-sustaining generator of the Stark Building to open the wormhole, because Loki loved drama, and because he wanted to spite those who would become the Avengers, but it would still have happened. The casualties and the damage wasn't caused by unsupervised superheroes.
And, if the Avengers followed the bureaucratic mandates passed by the WSC, Manhattan would be a smoking radioactive crater.
2. Washington D.C. Hydra's whole plan was to eliminate anyone who could resist them with the Insight helicarriers. Yes, Captain America destroyed them above a major city before they could start killing millions of people, but I don't think anyone can argue that he didn't have many options, and that wasn't due to his operating independently.
And if tried to tell me that Pierce wouldn't have a failsafe in place to stall the U.N. from activating the Accords, I don't know what to say.
3. Sokovia. The unsupervised activities of superheroes was not the cause of Ultron. The mistakes Tony (influenced by Wanda) and Bruce made had nothing to do with their roles as super-heroes, but their roles as scientists. Tony didn't even try to put Ultron in the field.
As for during the final battle? What if some governments freaked out that Nick Fury had managed to get a helicarrier operational off the grid and insisted that he stay away. The casualty count would have been much greater.
4. Lagos. This is laughable. The disaster in Lagos wasn't a result of the Scarlet Witch's lack of training or reckless behavior. It was caused by an evil man willing to blow himself up out of spite. If someone expected the Accords to prevent accidents like that from happening in counter-terrorism operations, I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you.
Any audience member who thought about it critically would have realized that screenwriters made a point of having Secretary General Thunderbolt Ross deliver the Sokovian Accords to the Avengers, after the man spent years chasing the Hulk to turn him into a weapon for the U.S. Government was to underline that the Sokovian Accords were a power-grab by governments seeking to put superheroes in service to their agendas, using the genuine fear of the populace to these world-altering events to justify it.
You know, just like fascists do.
If that wasn't a big enough clue, there was the way that Zemo turned bureaucratic procedure against itself to gain access to Bucky.
But I guess that some people just have to defend the ability of a privileged white man to endanger others in order to fully express his feelings.

Enterprise is also Leaving Netflix. What Should you Watch Before it Boldly Goes Away
Tumblr media
So let’s talk about Enterprise shall we? The black sheep of Trek, it is very different from what came before it. And you are right, Enterprise starts off slow.  R e a l l y    s l o w.  Do not let that stop you, Enterprise has a lot to offer! How you can watch depends on how much you have to put into the show:
Option 1 - Long Option
Tumblr media
Enterprise is primarily comprised of story arcs in its third and fourth seasons. You can see Star Trek actively starting to transition its’ form of storytelling from usually one- or two-episode stories to the multi-episode to season-long story arcs we typically see in TV today. I will also not be the first to say that Enterprise really blossoms in those two seasons. Because of this, it is really hard to just jump into an episode in the middle of a story arc without being a little lost
Your best option is to watch all of the Xindi story arc and most of the story arcs in season 4.
Start at season 2 episode 26 The Expanse and watch all the way to season 4 episode 21 Terra Prime. This is the true series finally, do not watch These are the Voyages, it is one of the most insulting series finales, like worse than Seinfeld.
Please note that you can skip season 4 episodes 18 and 19 if you don’t like/ are annoyed by the Mirror Universe. These are for-fun episodes that I enjoyed, but I understand are not for everyone. Additionally, season 4 episodes 10 and 11 are not part of any broader story arc, but I would only skip episode 11, Observer Effect. I personally really like episode 10, Daedalus, which gives insight into the history of the Star Trek Universe.
This leaves you with anywhere from 42-46 episodes to watch. Now if that seems like a lot, don’t worry! You can always watch:
Option 2 - Just 10 Episodes
Season 1 Episode 13 - Dear Doctor
Tumblr media
Ship's Doctor and resident non-human character Phlox is on Enterprise in a type of exchange program, with a human taking his place on a Denobulan vessel as they strive to learn more about each other's cultures. Phlox writes his human counterpart a 'Data's Day' style letter in which he recounts the adventure of the day. So what's on the menu today? Oh, I don't know, just the origination point of the Prime Directive, you might have heard of that before.
Season 2 Episode 23 -  Regeneration
Tumblr media
Regeneration is a follow-up to the movie, Star Trek First Contact. Yes. I am serious. A group of scientists encounters a crash site where they find Borg corpsickles and so kindly bring them back. This means that the Borg's attack at Wolf 359 was actually a predestination paradox created by the same man who leads the charge against the Borg at that very battle. Yikes. Overall though, a Borg episode was surprisingly appreciated, reminding us that this is overall still a part of the current Star Trek canon.
Season 2 Episode 24 -  First Flight
Tumblr media
The point of Enterprise was to give us a glimpse into the early years of human space exploration. While we only saw so much, we did see the beginning of humans traveling at faster than warp speeds. As part of the NX program that spawned Enterprise herself, many tests had to be made to push the maximum possible speed. Of course, being the prolific piolet he was, Archer was there. Making drama.
Season 3 Episode 8 -  Twilight
Tumblr media
Enterprise ran into an anomaly that slams into a corridor where Archer and T'Pol are. T'Pol becomes trapped and Archer frees her. This allowed her to escape, but he did not share her fate, being rendered unconscious by the same anomaly. That was 12 years ago. As a result of his injury, he can no long-term memories and Archer has to come to grips with what has been lost during that time. This is my favorite episode of Enterprise, that invokes shades of DS9's The Visitor and Voyager's Year of Hell. In my research, I found out that this was originally pitched as a Voyager story which is now so obvious. The relationship between Archer and T'Pol is never romantic, but you can see the true care they have for each other in their interactions here.
The “Romulan Interference” Arc
Season 4 Episode 12 - Babel One
Season 4 Episode 13 - United
Season 4 Episode 14 - The Aenar
Tumblr media
I have decided to select this three-episode arc which is defined by Memory Alpha as the Romulan Interference Arc. By trying to turn the founding members of the federation against each other, the Romulans accidentally created one of their biggest rivals. Oops. Of course, the Romulans are not the main focus, where this really shines is the interplay between the different cultures of the founding races, the humans, Vulcans, Andorians, and Tellarites. You can see that this was originally planned to be long and drawn out, but they did a good job of condensing it into a nice little arc. Andorians are at their best in Enterprise and this is the most in-depth look that we see in the series. Star Trek Legend Jeffery Combs plays Shran and of course he is amazing, his chemistry with Archer is real. As a reoccurring character, this is not the first or last time we see Shran, but probably the most focused look we have on the character.
The “Xenophobic Humans” Arc
Season 4 Episode 3 - Home
Season 4 Episode 20 - Demons
Season 4 Episode 21 - Terra Prime
Tumblr media
Another arc here to round off the list. I had originally only planned on placing episodes 20 and 21 here, but as there is setup done earlier in the season, episode 3, so I have also included it here as it contributes to a bigger part of the story. It makes sense after all that people have been through after the Xindi war, there would be pro-isolation groups. Heck, they probably were already there, but it makes sense that here, the tension would grow. It’s kind of ironic that after all of these struggles with alien races, the climax of the series sees a struggle not among aliens, but among humans. As a premise, this is what we all expected of Enterprise, a Coalition among explorers coming together to see what is beyond their shores. This is the true ending of Enterprise.
Again there are multiple ways to watch Enterprise, and again, these are just snippets. I know I left out some episodes that people will probably enjoy like The Expanse, Carbon Creek, or even the pilot Broken Bow (which in my opinion is the best pilot episode in the pre-reboot Star Trek era). This list was composed of episodes that would best give the Enterprise flavor, and in my opinion, the effect of an episode on Star Trek mythology was one of the biggest contributing factors. Would love to know what you think or if there are other episodes that should be added.

The scowl glued on your face as you waited in the ER for the results from the x-ray you had gotten back from minutes ago. A bag of ice on the swollen knuckles of your right hand still splattered in drops of blood. The same blood as the small drops on your shirt as well. If that didn’t put a scowl on your face, it was the next issue.
The reason for your visit to the ER was in bed next over complaining as a nurse checked his face. His eyes meeting yours in a blend of guilt, regret and fear almost. You couldn’t meet his eyes. You didn’t want to meet his eyes.
Let’s backtrack a little for a short history.
The summer after graduation, you had met a guy on the beach playing volleyball in need of another player. You joined, and then you fell for the guy just as he did for you. For the last three years, you were now twenty-one years old. Parker had been a really good guy. Until yesterday.
“Babe!” Parker sounded congested with the bandages held up his nose. He had been fighting the nurse to come to your side.
“Don’t call me that!” You hissed glaring at the tall boy with the auburn hair colour that had once been your favourite colour.
“C’mon it was a mistake-Ow!” Parker whined at the nurse applied more pressure as she cast a sympathetic glance at you. A small smile of thanks passed to the nurse who had maybe pressed a little no hard on Parker’s nose.
Your eyes rolled at the drama that was Parker when it came to injuries that had been his entire fault, to be frank. Your fist meeting his face? His fault for cheating. What did he expect? A congratulations? Screw that.
“Say anything else I swear I’ll hit the other ball.” You glared at the boy sending him to a fit, shaking fear of stupidity.
The beach was filled up with teens and adults with children on the nice weekend day out of the loud city. Originally you hadn’t been able to join Parker with your mutual friends, but something else had spurred you there. Instead of having the weekly movie night via FaceTime with your younger brother, you had other plans. A particular video sent by Parker’s best friend and his cousin too had brought you here. Livvy had grown close in the three-year relationship you had with her cousin.
Your fury filled gaze flickered around the beach and the grass in the large opening area of the waterfront. Finally, your eyes found Parker sitting with Livvy on the blanket on the grass with Steve. Livvy was the first to see with marching through the people spreading like a curtain from the angry girl.
“Hey, Parker!” You shouted at your boyfriend in a conversation with your other two friends. Parker’s smile grew just before it falters at your expression.
“Hey, Babe,” Parker spoke, climbing to his full five-foot-ten stature. Livvy’s smile pulled up in an amused smirk while Steve looked more confused.
“How was your weekend at your sick Granny’s house?” You came to a stop a foot away from him. Arms crossed just under your chest his thick eyebrows furrowed together.
“Uh…it was okay. She’s feeling better.” Parker nodded to himself tilting his head to the side, “It was-“
“I hope she better. Her treatment must have been incredible.” You replied, unfurling your arms to grab the phone from your back pocket.
Parker grew more confused, “What?”
“The doctor sure knew what he was doing. The prescription of ‘dicked down’ cured her illness and old age.” The whistle you made after your statement sounded, but you grew more satisfied with the circle of people behind you.
“Oh.” Steve choked, raising one fist to press against his mouth. By now Livvy had started recording on her phone.
Livvy and Parker may be cousins, but she loathed cheaters when it was the cause of her parents’ divorce. Parker’s lips parted as he paled. The click of the glass screen brought up a video of Parker and a brunette in a hot tub.
“Ba-“
“Fucking look at your actions.” You hissed stepping even closer, “Was it worth it? Jeopardizing a relationship with someone you share years of memories with? Years of love and trust? All for thirty seconds of fun? We both know you tend to…get too excited.”
“Oh shit,” Steve spoke, shifting his gaze between you and Parker like he was a bobblehead of Einstein. The very bobblehead that you had laughed giving Steve with his obsession over the legendary scientist.
“It just happened. I still love you. I just needed a- “Parker stumbled back bringing his hands to his face, “OW! You broke my nose!”
“Ouch.” You hissed shaking your aching hand coated in some blood that splattered your shirt from shaking the hand.
“What the hell! You bit…holy fuck!” Parker screamed as your foot came up between his spread legs, nailing his left nut. He collapsed onto the grass, struggling to hold his bleeding broke nose and his nuts.
“That’s what you get asshole.” You shouted, turning to Livvy, “Can you take me to the hospital?”
“Parker drove, I’ll drive you both there. Steve can keep you two from fighting.” Livvy spoke, ending the video to shove everything in the oversized beach bag.
Now it was hours later as per usual in most hospitals elongating the time you were forced to spend with your now ex-boyfriend. Livvy and Steve had gone home a while back. Parker continued trying to fix the unrepairable damage he had done.
“Y-“
“That’s it!” You exclaimed jumping down from the bed to storm over to Parker. You made a few steps before arms encircled your waist.
“Okay, Slugger.” The gritty voice of your father spoke tugging you as far away from your ex-boyfriend as possible, “As much I want to kill him, I think you broke his pretty-boy face enough.”
The anger drained from your body as you slumped against your dad anguish set in with a tsunami of hurt. Time melted as you broke in your father’s arm; missing the doctor giving information. Your hand was fitted with a cast, and next thing you were aware of it was in the car.
“You bruised hits nuts. Broke his nose.” Dad nonchalantly spoke, turning the steering wheel as he exited the hospital parking lot. He didn’t bother making small talk as he let you be quiet on the drive home.
You didn’t know what hurt more, the heartache or your broken hand stabilized in the brace. The clearing of a throat had your attention is drawn to the house you had grown up no doubt holding your upset mother.
“She’s not that mad.” Dad quietly spoke, handing your phone that had died during the time in the ER. You shot him a look at the inaccuracy of his statement because you both know she was angry.
“Her daughter just spent hours in a hospital with a dead phone. We both know she probably thought I was dead in a ditch.” You deadpanned as you both walked up to the door of the home in Norman, Oklahoma.
The door opened before you could reach for it, and a flurry of blonde hair attacked you in a hug. Your mother hugged then leaned away to scan your features. Catching the dried tear stains paired with the red-rimmed eyes.
“Sweetheart.” Dinah spoke, raising her hands to wipe the tears from your face only causing more to fall, “What’s wrong?”
“Parker cheated on me.” You mumbled melting into her arms in another round of tears, breaking your parents’ hearts.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile in Vancouver, Canada
Owen loved his job and the people he had met, but he missed the weekly movie nights with his older sister. The Joyner siblings had gotten down pat a system of sync to have the same movie playing at the same time on FaceTime. Imagine his surprise when he got a text apologizing.
Virtual movie night postponed. It put him in a slump that greatly concerned his roommate at the decrease of excitement. Even the next day, he was sad like a kicked puppy.
“Bro? You good?” Charlie asked from his place in the kitchen, scanning his emails on his computer. Owen barely made his eyes, “Wasn’t movie night with your sister yesterday?”
Owen nodded, “Yeah she-“
As Owen had gone to explain his phone had dinged with a concerning message from his mother.
Mom: Have you heard from Y/N? She hasn’t come home.
Owen swiped out of the conversation to the most used one with you shared with him to send a mass of messages. All not even coming up as read by you. It was his stipulation that you had it one for his safe of mind.
“C’mon you little shit,” Owen grumbled, pressing your contact to call. It didn’t even ring, “Dead cell.”
Charlie’s full attention shifted to the younger guy sitting on their couch in the apartment they used during filming. As Owen started pacing, Charlie was over quick as a bunny to offer comfort to him. The boys had grown so close, with Jeremy too, that they knew how to help the other.
“Owen, you need to tell me what’s going on.” Charlie soothed the blonde with his eyes pleading with the teenager.
“My parents haven’t talked to my sister. She didn’t go home.” Owen admitted scratching at his chest when his chest tightened. The other immediately finding his pulse on his neck to ensure he still had a pulse.
“Oh shit.” Charlie retorted, tapping his foot on the hardwood floor trying to find the right words to help his friend.
For the next hour, the boys kept in contact with Owen’s family and checking your social media in shifts as they filmed. It was a slow day when Owen’s phone finally rang with his mother’s contact once more.
“Mom, did you find her?” Owen asked, picking at the skin on his lips pacing as he had all day. The level of anxiety had been perfect for the scene he had filmed as Alex.
“Yeah. Look, Owen, she needs to get out of Oklahoma. Do you have room for her?” Dinah asked her son periodically glancing in the living room at the lifeless young woman.
“Yeah. We have an extra room.” Owen supplied squeezing the phone in his grip, “How is she? What happened?”
“I’m letting her settle before I ask any questions, but her flight is in a bit. It was either you take her in, or we pay for a hotel room. Oh! I got this lego-“
“I have to get back to filming. I’ll call you tonight.” Owen told his mother as his thumb hit the record circle on his phone. Kenny waving him over to film a scene with Booboo that would be the last before heading home.
The over the counter pain pill went down with a swig of water in the airport waiting for Owen and his roommate. Owen had messaged you that he would pick you up on the way from the set in perfect timing.
“Y/N!” Owen cheered catching sight of your form hunched forward on the bench you had miraculously found empty. Your blank eyes seeing the blue of your younger brother.
Owen’s eyes widened in shock, “What the hell happened to your hand?”
Noncommittal, the girl walked by her brother with her luggage in the mission to get to the car. All you wanted was to burst into years under your blankets until the world turned again, when birds sang, and the word wasn’t painted in dull colours.
Just as it had during the ride from the hospital to the house, it was dead silent in the car with the barest sound of music. Owen and Charlie had been having a conversation with expressions with the tension in the backseat stifling.
“This is our place.” Charlie spoke, opening the apartment door with a flourish for the girl and her luggage. Your eyes scanned the modest apartment with minimal mess compared to the tornado devastation of Owen’s Oklahoma room.
“Okay.” You replied, watching as Owen rolled the luggage to the room you would use for the few weeks you would be here.
Once showered, dressed and settled, you retreated to the couch to watch a film with the two boys. Your mind fluttered between Beca’s blow out with her father and Jesse to the city of Norman. As if thinking of Parker manifested something your phone buzzed with notifications.
@/livvyjo: Go, girl! [video]
@/malia134: Parker goes down like the bitch he is!!!
@/notsteverogers: I got a front-row seat to the fight.
Those three comments on Livvy’s video had more support than hate plus the video itself was hilarious. It caught the entire confrontation from greeting the cheater to being pulled away to spend the ten minutes in the same car. The car you had hooked up in the backseat of in the years you dated him.
 “-The prescription of ‘dicked down’ cured her illness and old age.” The pure anger on your expression amused you.
“What are you watching?” Owen inquired from the couch he watched the movie from. It made up for the lack of a film last night.
“A girl punching her bag of shit ex-boyfriend. She almost ripped his face off in the hospital.” You softly replied with your thumb double-tapping Livvy’s post.
Charlie’s attention shifted from the pool mashup with the Barden Bellas to the pride evident in your tone. It was the first time he had heard you laugh during the few hours he had been in your presence.
“What movie?”
“Oh, you know Parker’s Dicked Down Adventures. Filmed free with an iPhone.” You spoke sliding down to sit flush to Charlie to show the video you refreshed.
Owen’s mouth opened, “He cheated on you? How stupid is he??”
“You have a mean right hook.” Charlie supplied replaying the video for the third time with a weird feeling in his gut. The confidence stirred a body warming heat in the Canadian actor unlike anything else he had felt before.
“Dad taught me.” You replied, slouching down in the plush couch with a tiny smiling, “The nurse heard what happened. She put excessive pressure for his actions. I overheard his diagnosis; nasty bruised testicle and a broken nose.”
Both boys winced at the description. Owen ditching Charlie’s side to sit beside you, leaving you in the middle of the boys.
“I almost attacked him before Dad dragged me out of the room.” You recounted snuggling into your younger brother’s side.
“Where are my keys?” Owen questioned his roommate, “We need them to drive to the airport. I need to kill the ass that hurt my sister.”
Your deft fingers grasped Owen’s wrist when he went to get up because, in all honesty, he probably would book a flight. He wouldn’t go through with the plan to physically hurt Parker, but Owen had a wicked tongue for insults.
Tumblr media
You spent one month in Vancouver with your brother and his castmates from helping Maddie with her homework. Movie nights with Owen changed to include Charlie too. Shopping trips with Sav and Tori. Baking with Jadah. You became family with them.
All good things come to an end. You had settled back in Norman with brighter plans that didn’t involve relying on men. Movie nights still happened with the boys, but things got hectic. Virtual movie nights shifted to texting Charlie and calls.
“Hey dork.” Charlie spoke walking down the street in Vancouver to the restaurant he was meeting the cast at. His lips pulled back in a massive grin, hearing your voice.
“Hey Char!” You enthusiastically spoke, walking out of the building with more pep in your step at the voice of the man, “What’s up?”
“On my way for food with everyone. How are you feeling?” Charlie asked, rubbing his fingertips on the dark denim pants. The sound of your voice brightening up his day more than he thought possible.
“Ooh. I should let you go, huh?” You questioned shifting to hold the phone between your shoulder and chin. Fingers unlocked the new car you had bought with the money you had saved.
A nice change of money from selling the jewellery, clothes and other miscellaneous gifts Parker had given you. The necklace he gave you that once belonged to his grandmother had been given back to him. Other than that you had no interaction with the ass.
“I’d rather talk to you.” Charlie admitted biting his lip in concentration, “I have a question.”
“Okay. What’s your question?” You questioned as your phone connected to your car—Charlie’s voice coming through the car speakers.
“Filming is almost over. Do you have plans for New Years? I’d like you to see you again.”
His words set a flutter of butterflies moving in your stomach at his nervous confidence striking the new information. The change in your friendship had been felt on his side as well and while you usually would think one-month post cheating wasn’t long enough. Something about Charlie felt comfortable as if everything had been preparing to fall for him.
“I could fly-“
“I’d like to see where you grew up. Your favourite places and where you went to school. I want to know the little things that made you who you are.” Charlie spoke coming to a stop outside the restaurant, waiting for your answer.
Owen’s eyes pulled from his debate with Sacha and Jeremy to the nervous Canadian biting his lip outside the window. By the expression on his face, Owen couldn’t guess who he was talking about. It was the smile that had been appearing on Charlie’s face for the last two weeks you had been staying with them.
Charlie had fallen for Owen’s big sister, and he couldn’t think of anyone better. The bond between you and Charlie had been natural and magical to watch. It was kinda gross seeing his best friend and sister having heart eyes with each other. Yet, Owen had never liked Parker, but he loved the idea of having Charlie as a brother.
“Y-yeah. Of course, you can Char.” The flattering blush heated up your skin at the turn in the convo—a grin splitting on the two individuals with more than three thousand kilometres between them.
“Cool. I should join the cast. I’ll text you later.”
“Bye, Charlie.” You whispered to the boy looking out the window noticing something she had been oblivious to.
The world had regained the colour, the birds sang again, and the world turned once more. All because a boy helped her heal.

Vampire
And the Gunslinger Followed – musical_emjay
Summary: Erik Lehnsherr hunts the things that go bump in the night.
He’s done so since he was a child, since the first time his mother put a knife in his hand and told him how to use it, told him why he should.
But ten years alone on the road has caught up to him, left him wrung out and longing for a place to rest, recharge, get his head back on straight. Though nowhere has ever truly felt like home, he heads straight for New York City, a place that’s always had more to offer him by way of warmth and comfort than any other. What he finds when he gets there, however, is several miles south of anything approaching restful. Old acquaintances, old memories, and a mysterious stranger who has him forgetting all his rules — Erik soon realizes there are decisions he needs to make, before circumstances intervene and make them for him. Otherwise, he might not like the result.

Adding to this volatile mix is one Charles Xavier, scientist and academic, drawn to the continent by his fascination for the supernatural and the locals’ tales of love, betrayal and never-ending war…
On the Scent – dedkake
Summary: The full moon is nearing and Charles decides to visit his neighbor.
Does not ebb – StarkMad

Summary: Taehyung and his best friend Y/N are Dolphin trainers at Wash Out; Marine Wildlife and Theme Park. When the nerdy marine biologist and resident veterinarian Doctor Kim Namjoon goes missing; the two friends form a ragtag team with Taehyung’s rival Seokjin and a…. Fish?
Tumblr media
After checking in with Tae and Jin you were watching movies with the merman and trying to stay up to monitor Dolly. It was late in the night that you heard banging like someone was knocking on a door but muffled. Eventually you got up confused and annoyed at the repeated sound, until you heard a dolphin squeal.
Sitting up quickly your eyes met with the half fish, he looked worried. He must have been banging the glass for you to wake up. Looking over into the rest tank you went over and leaned over the side. Dolly was giving birth. You followed the instructions from your research and you tried to help Dolly.
Dazed and not thinking straight, you stepped into the water, Dolly smacked you with her tail causing you to fall. Hitting your head on the side of the tank a searing pain and haze of black before falling out of the tank.
Your head was aching, what a rookie mistake mothers are very protective of their children and you had just entered her safe space. You tried to soothe her with music and monitored her as she had her baby.
The little dolphin calf was swimming beside their mother and you sat back in relief as the baby began drinking from its mother.
Your vision turned red in that eye and you panicked, turning away looking for a mirror. The merman jumped back in shock and intrigue staring at your face. He wore the same face when watching movies with you, he seemed confused about blood in the movie as well. Where did it come from and what did it do? After a few action movies he realised that loss of blood meant humans died. Maybe that’s why he looked so nervous, mustering a gentle smile you gave him an okay gesture which he returned confused.
Pulling out a small compact mirror from your toiletry bag, you inspected the wound. Grabbing a dressing to cover the injury you carefully cleaned and used an antiseptic before using a waterproof bandage on the tiny cut.
The male was getting good at gesture communication to some extent. He could thumbs up and down for yes and no and he understood waving when you arrived or left the room. He was trying to understand the okay gesture you had used before but he didn’t quite get the meaning which was understandable, it was a harder concept to grasp.
You tapped your mouth meaning food and he gave you the thumbs up, you went off to get some fish for him to eat. You were glad the CEO wasn’t around, you were able to establish a connection with him and he was able to understand certain cues.
Carrying the buckets back your head started spinning, you were feeling kind of sick. It was unpleasant, your eyes stinging as you held the rail and headed up the stairs and above the tank.
The cat walk felt unstable, the room spinning and distorting, you dropped the bucket clutching your head and you felt your body relax into an unconscious state.
When you came to you were laying on the catwalk entirely wet and your headache painfully. You knew you would have had to have fallen into the water. The fish bucket was floating around the tank and your hand was dipped below the surface.
You heard a sweet humming. With a groan you grabbed your head and turned towards the sound seeing the figure grow quiet. The mermaid has been watching you while you slept and backed up a little. Sinking into the water until it reached the bridge of his nose.
With only his eyes on show you were once again hit with how captivating he was. His stare was so strong and eyes fierce and yet you were unsure if he was trying to scare you or lure you in. You watched as he blinked a transparent eyelid travelling across his eye before his regular eye lid fell down over his eye.
It was a subtle reminder of how he wasn’t entirely human, he watched you trying to sit up. The way your limbs must have looked so weak, your torso swayed heavily. You remembered you hadn’t had much sleep; it was now probably three in the morning.
Remembering your duty to dolly you turned quickly the world spinning with you and yet it didn’t stop when you did and you fell forward. You were conscious this time as you plunged into the water.
You tried to fight your way back up to the surface. The last thing you needed right now is to get more head spins and muscle weakness, the merman grabbed your waist. Pulling you against his chest making the world still as he grounded you to him and swam upwards his hips rocking against yours as his tail swayed in his swimming motion.
Your head fell forward and when you broke the surface he cradled the back of your head tilting it so your head would rest in his palm. He seemed startled by your eyes still being open.
“Your voice is so pretty, were you humming?” You smiled, his eyes searched your face watching you wince clutching the side of your head. “Ow!”
He eyed the bandage and watched your head flop forward again, he scooped your head off his shoulder and held it once more in his hand. Unable to resist giggling.
“I think I have a concussion, I think I really hit my head in Dolly’s tank” you mumbled before gasping eyes shooting open, “Dolly!”
He let you go confused as to why you were struggling against him but rolled his eyes as you sank again. Scooping you from below the surface he pressed your back against the catwalk. You don’t know his reasoning behind this but it didn’t seem like he was cornering you, it was more like he was trying to support you some more.
Being this close to him your heart fluttered in your chest and you wondered if he felt the same. Flattening your palm to his chest you heard the steady beat of his heart.
He pressed his palm to yours and felt your heart beat hammering in your chest. Looking up into your eyes you felt his heart flutter softly.
He swam forward not closing the little space between you and tilting his head pressing his lips to yours. You had watched a lot of romance movies and tv shows and noticed how he really paid attention when the main couple kissed or shared an intimate moment.
His heartbeat fluttered again loudly as you were lifted from the water and sat on the catwalk, he didn’t remove his mouth from yours but clutched your hips delicately.
His tail was leisurely keeping him afloat and you were surprised by the strength it held. His soft plump lips pulled away his hand carding through his hair nervously.
“We can speak now,” he whispered with a soft shy smile
“Wait, you speak english?” You said shocked and he gave a melodic laugh making you feel happy just by the sound.
“No, I shared with you the ability to understand our language and took your language as well. It is called the gift of tongues.”
“I can see why,” you giggled
“You hit your head earlier, and you were leaking?” He asked curiously, “are you badly injured?”
“I am okay,” you gave him the okay gesture and he laughed looking as if he made a life changing discovery.
“You can barely stand up on your own,” he scoffed. “You are definitely not okay, human.”
“My name is Y/n,” you laughed with him, a little more embarrassed by his observations than amused. He stopped laughing contemplating something before flashing you a bright grin.
“Jimin.”
“That’s a nice name, I really like it.” You beamed it wasn’t too different from what you had expected, but the name suited him well, “Jimin.”
Jimin sank into the water until only his eyes were visible, the tops of his ears a bright red alluding you to his embarrassment.
“Did you eat?” You asked, reaching to grab the bucket and almost teetering off the catwalk. He grabbed your hip and held you to the concrete.
“Yes after saving you?” He swam bringing the bucket closer, you thanked him, taking the bucket out of the water. He dipped under the water and you thought perhaps he was finished talking but he popped up once more and ran his hands through his hair.
“So why am I here in this cage?” He asked
“This is where we take sick sea animals and make them better before sending them back to the wild,” you explained. “They find a lot of hurt fish where you were found, so we go out and collect them, heal them and send them back. Namjoon is our scientist/doctor. You hit him with your tail and he disappeared. They didn’t find a body.”
“So I am in prison,” he frowned, hearing he had killed someone innocent who wasn’t trying to hurt anyone but protect them. “My friends were there. I called them and they answered back, perhaps they took him away.”
“You are here because of the CEO, he wants you to be a part of the exhibit,” you said honestly, “I want you to be happy you are a person just like me, I don’t want to keep you locked up.”
“What’s an exhibit?”
“He wants you to sing, swim and dance to entertain people who will come and see you,” you explained, running a hand through your tangled damp hair. “He told me not to feed you until you cooperated but I snuck you fish anyway, he isn’t here for the week so I am not worried but if and when he comes back he will want results and if we don’t show him what he wants I will have to leave forever and you will probably be hurt badly until you do as they say”
He paled moving away from you. “I don’t want to hurt you, I don’t want you to get hurt by anyone, I will try to protect you with everything I have.”
“Can you get me out of here?” He said, swimming forward slowly in the water looking up at you innocently. He pulled himself up out of the water, a hand on either side of your legs. Jimin lifted his face level to yours, his tail coming out of the water. His lips ghosting as he whispered “I want to go back?” Your eyes fluttered closed, his lips were so soft molded with yours.
“I can,” You sighed out of breath, unsure if it was the head injury or the kiss. He was smiling, a mischievous look in his eye made you think he was playing you exactly where he wanted, “but you will have to wait for me to make a plan.”
“I can’t just walk a fish out of the park or the guards would break my legs,” Jimin winced his hands delicately landing on your knees protectively, “If the CEO finds out I am dead and you are in an even worse position, they would hurt you Jimin, they would torture you until you do what they say.”
“I have to make a plan, to get you out of here past all of the guards and then where do I take you?” Mind reeling with thoughts, ideas and plans trying to figure out all the scenarios. “We will have to hide for a few days so they don’t cut us off before we can get you to the water. I can’t take you to my house as that would be the first place they look.”
He didn’t say a word listening to your musings, “Listen, give me a few days. I will talk to Taehyung and we will make a plan to get you out.”
He frowned, looking like he was going to swim away. Without a second thought you jumped into the water, his eyes widened as he clutched your waist. You were feeling much better and could swim on your own, but you let him hold you. “I promise Jimin.”
You held out your pinky and he looked at it confused, you took his hand from your waist and pulled it out of the water. Slipping slightly into the water he pulled you closer, his hard torso pressed to your soft one. You tried not to kick your legs so as not to kick his tail. He offered you his pinky which you twisted with yours pressing the pads of your thumbs together.
“This is a pinky promise, it can’t be broken. It is the strongest promise anyone can make.” He looked at your hands and you grinned “I promise you, I will get you out of here.”
You let your hands go and gently swam away from him crawling onto the catwalk. “Y/n!” He called making you turn back to him. He pushed himself up quickly, capturing your lips in a fierce kiss, the concrete was biting at your knees but you were lost in the feeling. He pulled away with a bright grin. “Thank you.”
Diving under the water, leaving you on the catwalk trying to get up with weak knees.

Edge has a Gaster. Stretch has a Gaster. And they have each other.
What could possibly go wrong?
(or four skeletons fall hopelessly in love)

read part 1 on Ao3
or read it below!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was a normal day, just like any other. Edge had been setting up his traps, making sure that no one was stuck in any of the ones that laid farther in the woods. On occasion a dog would get caught in the mechanisms, even though he’d warned them all time and time again that sniffing around the dangerous puzzles would only end with them getting stuck.
They were dogs, though, scatterbrained and easily distracted, so he’d have to get one of them unstuck at least once a month. It was a thankless job, one that he happily did anyway for the look of relief on the dog’s face.
Sometimes, stars forbid, a child would get stuck, and he’d have to mount a bit of a rescue to keep whoever it happened to be from panicking and killing themselves on the spikes and sharper parts of the puzzles. It was a bit panic inducing for himself to deal with, but he couldn’t just let them die because of their foolhardiness.
Still, no one had been caught that day, all of the puzzles only needing a bit of brushing from snow and a solid kick to get started up again, rumbling in the chilly air. He’d started on his way back, boots crunching in the fresh snow when a bit of an itch started in the base of his neck, traveling up into his skull until it started to hurt.
He had to stop just before the entrance to Snowdin proper, the sharp pain making it difficult to stay upright. He was panicking a little, sockets wide as he breathed through the pain to try and make it back home… only for it to reach a crescendo, before abruptly falling away. It was as if someone was taking a hammer to his skull, only to stop suddenly just before something actually broke.
Standing rigidly straight, Edge glanced around the clearing, scowling as he started back for the house. He wasn’t about to stand around for a random LV hunter to spot him and smell out his weakness; being attacked was the least he wanted right now.
He’d only just gotten inside, though, locking up the door and kicking off his boots when it happened.
“Hello?”
Jumping in place, Edge growled as he whipped around the living room, searching for the unfamiliar voice’s origin. There was nothing, the windows locked, the doors upstairs shut. Rubbing at his skull, he strode to the kitchen over creaky floors, but no one was there either.
“Who is there?” he called, not really expecting a response… but got one anyway.
“Me, asshole, who else?”
Edge stood stock still, staring at the blank wall until he realized that the voice was internal, not from anywhere around the house. Raising a hand, he gently prodded at his own skull. “Who are you?”
“Gaster, Royal Scientist. Who are you ?”
Well this was just fantastic. Edge didn’t know a “Gaster”, and monsters hadn’t had a Royal Scientist for hundreds of years, as far as he knew. He was going insane, that was the short of it. Absolutely nuts, he’d have to tell Red to lock him in the shed like a rabid dog-
“Must you be so dramatic? You’re not crazy.”
Edge squinted at nothing. “How is imagining a voice that is not my own, who tells me that it is “the Royal Scientist”, not crazy?”
The voice… Gaster was quiet for a moment, before finally speaking back up. “Because I think I know how this happened.”
Edge closed his eyes, letting out a breath before heading for the kitchen. “Well you can tell me your theory while I prepare lunch. Red will be hungry and I will not have him asking questions while I’m having a crisis.”
“Whatever, drama queen.”
~.~
As it turned out, the voice was indeed a Gaster, one Wing Dings Gaster who had once been the Royal Scientist before he’d done himself dirty and fallen into the CORE. Edge really only had an outsider’s perspective on what that even meant, but according to Gaster, he’d thought he’d died. It was a bit of a shock to wake up inside Edge’s body, unable to move or talk or do anything other than watch. It’d been a few months of that, just watching as Edge lived his life, unable to reach out for help until whatever had changed.
Now he wouldn’t shut up, Edge found. The monster was lonely if he had to guess, having spent years in what Gaster termed as “a Void”. He understood that, to some extent, but it would be nice to take a shower without Gaster making wayward comments about his bone structure.
The most excited he ever got was when Edge made nachos, having apparently been his favorite food when he was “whole”. He never used the term alive, never really seemed to accept that he might have, and probably had died whenever he fell into for all intents and purposes magma, but…
Edge couldn’t help but feel… pleased. When Gaster would chatter in his head about how good food tasted compared to the old days, or when Edge read one of his puzzle mechanics books, the scientist reading hungrily alongside him. He soaked up new information like a sponge, seemingly starved for contact with people. Edge began to care about his new roommate, to the extent that when Gaster went quiet he knew something was wrong.
The amount of noise he made though, when Edge caught Red in the basement, messing with the machine and staring up at them with a seemingly manic look when it kicked on… Edge would never forget it.
The resulting explosion whenever the machine started sputtering and coughing out black smoke was more than a little concerning, but Edge only grabbed Red and used his own little tricks to book it upstairs, waiting until after everything had quieted down, the smoke calming down until it was a light haze in the air.
“What do you think happened? Is the machine alright? That was mine, you know; your thieving brother should be strung up and-”
Edge mentally shushed him, stepping carefully down the wooden stairs back into the basement, Red just behind him. He could hear movement that wasn’t theirs, coughing and hacking and the general noise of someone staggering around in the still thick smoke, but Edge only caught them by the soul, gently tugging them forward despite the gasp of air that quickly turned to choking.
What appeared out of the smoke, hanging like a limp doll and staring up at them with fear in his eyes, was a tall skeleton, the facial structure uncomfortably similar to Edge’s own. He wore what was probably once a bright orange hoodie, though now it was covered in smears of grease and soot.
“Who are you?” Edge demanded, the skeleton perking up, even if it was angry.
“I think you know the answer to that already, asshole.”
And well. Edge couldn’t fault him there. Gaster’s added “Well he’s a looker, huh.” wasn’t exactly helpful though.
