How do you approach challenges in your fitness program? I'm a firm believer that your attitude and thoughts prior to a workout, set, or even rep greatly affects your performance. As the legendary Henry Ford once said, "Whether you think you can or whether you think you can't, you're right." If you go into your workout with a sluggish or negative attitude with no outside accountability to help you, chances are that your workout will be lackluster at best. It is not always easy to be focused and maintain a positive attitude but here are some things you can do: • 1. Listen to your favorite type of upbeat music. 2. Visualize yourself accomplishing a new personal best 3. Practice positive self-talk/encourage yourself. 4. Workout with a buddy 5. Remind yourself of your goals and why you are working out. • The list could be longer but truth is, you know yourself best and you know what is your best motivator. What are you waiting for? Why haven't you started working towards your fitness goals? Truth be told, everyone has an excuse but those who are working towards it have determined that they are NOT going to let it hold them back. There's never a good time to start, things aren't going to "slow down", and nothing is going to get "easier". So what is really holding you back? The best way to find this out is to look at yourself in the mirror and talk with yourself out loud. I know it sounds weird but when you start to verbalize these excuses while looking yourself square in the eyes, you realize how the only person holding you back is YOU.
