do you happen to know of any tumblrs that do what you do, but for other... types(?) of people? i'm struggling to find an active LGBT writing guide blog specifically at the moment but it'd be nice to have a masterlist of any blog of this variety, since tumblr's search is remissfully unhelpful..! tysm
Hi lovely asker!
So there used to be a whole lot of blogs that were labeled "Scriptx" blogs and of course others too. Good thing is a lot of them were archived! So while they're not open for new questions you can still use the search and use the information provided to other asks they answered. So I'm gonna tag the other active blogs or the ones that are just on hiatus and then I'm gonna link all the archived ones!

I briefly scrolled through a few of these that I personally wasn't aware of but I can't vet and scroll through each and every individual blog in its entirety because well it would take a very very long time. Also of the active blogs some don't have their ask box open and/or some are on small hiatus'. Please be respectful of that, pretty please, everyone puts in a lot of time and effort and yeah.

My character accidently burned down his high school (thanks to fire powers he couldn't control) and he didn't pull the alarm as he ran. Besides possible ptsd, what are some ramifications of his actions? His girlfriend also died in the fire.
Okay, I know you’re asking me this in regards to the psychological ramifications of this thing. But I was talking to @scripteducator about this and there are some major things you need to consider.
Most schools are usually big old stone buildings with uber fire protection so it’s HARD to burn the entire thing down, unless he went nuclear.
Schools are some of the most hard core fire protected buildings out there. Like, twice yearly inspections, sprinklers, regular fire drills.
It’s amazing the disaster plans schools have. There was a horrible fire in a catholic school, and the whole country got HARDCORE about school firecodes.
[Shrink’s note - the fire in question is the Our Lady of the Angels School fire. Only read that link if you’re not faint of heart - it’s truly horrifying, and there’s pictures of some of the victims].
The people in the immediate room might die. But I can guarantee that A) someone else would pull the alarm, and B) most are so hardcore zoned off into like fire areas that it wouldn’t get past that area. Automatic firedoors man.
As for how they’d deal with him [if he wasn’t straight up arrested and jailed for arson]? Yeah, at the very least they’d send him to one of the special behavioral centers, if not juvie. If he goes to juvie it’s not our problem anymore, but the systems problem.
If you have any further questions about schools react to fires, send them to @scripteducator!
Also, “he didn’t pull the alarm as he ran” - that’s not how fire alarms work. They’d automatically be triggered if they detected fire, regardless of whether the alarm was pulled or not.
Honestly, Anon, I’d recommend having your character burn down something a bit less prepared for disasters, such as a mall or restaurant.
BACK TO THE PSYCHOLOGICAL STUFF.
You’re right, PTSD / Acute stress is the obvious choice. I could see your character also developing panic attacks (see my demystifying post here!) - he could start freaking out because he’s scared of losing control of himself (which actually is one of the symptoms!).
He could also develop depression, especially if he blames himself excessively for his girlfriend’s death.

I'm writing a story from multiple perspectives, and one of the perspectives comes from someone who was kidnapped at a young age and has only basic vocabulary. Could you suggest anything to help me write such a perspective? I've been struggling with it.
Hey! I guess you have to consider a couple of things here. Has the kid been able to listen to other people speak often? Has their kidnappers made any attempt to educate them? How young is young (5 year olds can speak full sentences; 2 year olds might only know words and phrases)?
I’d reccomend (if possible) listening to children of that age group in regular conversation. If they’re of school age, there’s probably youtube videos of “(insert age) year old kids answer questions about (topic)”.
I believe @scripteducator is inactive, but I’d look through their archives to see of anything can be of relevance. @scripshrink and @scriptlinguist are active, and they might be able help.
I’ve heard stories of kids growing up in the wild or away from humans. Usually, they forget how to really talk in more than grunts and noises, but I’m not sure if that’s because they themselves don’t speak, they don’t hear people speak, or both. If someone kidnapped at a young age, I wouldn’t be surprised if they refused to speak much out of fright. Babies learn how to talk from listening. If the character has been able to listen to others, they may have more than a basic vocabulary. Basically, what I’m saying is that this depends on a lot of factors, and I have no clue what would be realistic.
Here’s some stuff that might help. The 2nd is a post with more links, so it should get you off to a good start: http://www.simonpclark.com/2013/06/writing-good-childrens-dialogue.html?m=1
http://fuckyeahcharacterdevelopment.tumblr.com/post/41047551468/writing-child-characters
Can anyone help? Do y'all know of a tumblr or site that might know more?

Since ask box is empty...Maybe not a question for you but I tried the google and I'm still a bit unsure of the answer. If a child's birthday is in January when would they start school?? Would it be the sept before they turn 5 or would they have to wait until the next year??
Uh, I have no idea, I would guess it would depend on their parents, the school’s policy, and the child’s development. For what it’s worth, in my part of the world the school year starts in March and sometimes children do begin at 4.
But this isn’t really my kind of question. I’m sure @scripteducator would be a better bet.

Since scripteducator is on hiatus and doesn't cover higher education (grad school/postdoc) anyway, do you know of any blogs that do? (And thank you!)
I don’t know of any blogs outside the scriptX Family that are dedicated to higher education, however, depending on the subject, some of our other blogs may be able to help you e.g. -shrink, -veterinarian,-accountant,-medic
Any of our other followers have suggestions?

I have a question concerning newborns in the US and I was wondering if you could help me; do children in the US have their BCGs (TB vaccines) at birth or can parents decide to not give their child the vaccination? Thank you for everything you do here!
Hey there!
Kids in the 21st-century US are not routinely inoculated with BCGs at birth, or, typically, ever.
The reason behind that is that tuberculosis is not anywhere near as prevalent in the US as it is in other parts of the world, so the vaccine basically isn’t needed. It can be administered, of course, if the newborn character lives in a high-risk area or with parents with antibiotic-resistant TB.
The Center for Disease Control actually has a pretty good page about the vaccine which you may want to peruse, including lists of who should and should not receive the vaccine and why.
Generally speaking, vaccinations in the US are optional, and extremely polarizing, with extremists on both ends of the vaccinate/anti-vaccination spectrum. I’m not the person to ask about whether anyone should vaccinate their children or not, because I have extremely strong personal feelings on the topic (that I won’t share here).
Ultimately vaccinations are not state-enforced, so parents get to choose, but bear in mind many public schools won’t permit students who haven’t had particular vaccinations into the schooling system; private schools’ rules vary, and @scripteducator may have more info on how different educational systems approach various vaccinations.
I hope this helps you write your stories!
xoxo, Aunt Scripty

Up way too late, but I managed to pull off 1042 words today. (I had the first 600 or so done reasonably early, considering I also went and saw Hidden Figures, but then I couldn’t concentrate on writing the last little bit.)
Progress: 4.131k/6day
ETA: Actually I wrote way more than that, come to think of it: I wrote a long submission for scripteducator about Catholic schools. But I don’t think that counts according to the 365k/365day rules, which is probably why I forgot about writing it.

Hey, is there a scriptx blog that focuses on writing children? Like 10-15 year olds? Are there any requirements or do you just start one? Thank you, your blog has been very informative!

hello! I'm making characters who "fell though the cracks", so to speak, and where never officially diagnosed or confirmed to have conditions, but adapted or developed techniques to the point that they never felt "normal" per say, but could sort of function. The conditions I have in mind are dyslexia, auditory processing disorder, and autism. What are some techniques or behaviors they could have adapted to cope or function. I got the idea from a post on @scripteducator and need more info, please.
This sounds like a question for @scriptautistic !

ScriptX Family Weekly Update
Hey y’all, and welcome back to the weekly update. The fam has had a lot of excellent posts this week, so you should definitely take a look at those especially. Anyways, on to announcements.
Announcements
@scriptsocialwork is still looking for a mod to help with adoption and the foster system. Please contact her via message if you are interested.
Featured Posts
Beauty and the Alien
“Beauty and the Beast” an old tale of love, romance, forgiveness, Stockholm Syndrome, but that’s been redone enough times. So instead, what if we took a prisoner, put him on a spaceship, and had an alien try to induce Stockholm Syndrome. Yeah, not exactly a light and happy story idea, but then again the best books have the not so happy scenarios. (@scriptshrink )
Sheltered Life
Your character has finally started the animal shelter of their dreams. Now what? Every job has its quirks, so what problems might a shelter owner encounter? @scriptveterinarian has a couple prompts to think about when the dogs are let out.
I’m Gonna Steal the Moon
Tumblr media
So what would have happened if Gru had actually stolen the moon? Well, grab your surfboards and head to the pawn shop, ‘cause you aren’t using that anymore dude. You may want to use that money to pay for 10% of a plane ticket out of Hawaii cause according to @scriptastronomer , those volcanoes may no longer be your friend.
Low Battery
Tumblr media
Your character has to monitor her energy closely. However, she wants to go to the amusement park tomorrow with her friends. How might she make sure she doesn’t overextend her energy? @scriptspoonie has some ideas that may help you when you’re writing.
Captain Punisher: The Nerdy Soldier
Soldiers, the buffest of boiz, the toughest of titans, and… the coolest of comic readers? Yep. Turns out, soldiers do enjoy their comics, their videogames, their tabletops, all that good stuff. An excellent example of this is the common use of the Punisher skull on their gear. But why do they like the Punisher? @scriptsoldier has a few ideas that may help your writing.
Shady Greens
Karen works in a coffee shop. It’s a great job, paying pretty well even though most days are pretty slow. It’s just, something keeps bugging her. Sometimes she gets a look at the books and what she’s seeing doesn’t line up with what she’s selling. Maybe something shadier is going on that has nothing to do with the storefront. What do you think, @@scriptaccountant ?
Throw A Shrimp on The Barbie
Except don’t. @scriptaussie has taken plenty of time to show those of us who don’t live down under, so, please. Just, no. They don’t say that. Don’t use it.
Tumblr media
Super School
The voices. They just keep talking. Saying random pointless things that you can’t focus anymore. Will they just stop? At least if that one guy could stop thinking that one girl and what- and I’m gonna stop there. Simply said, being a telepath in school would suck, but would it cause enough problems to warrant special accommodation? @scripteducator gives some insights into what qualifies for special ed and how it is implemented.
Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes
Dancing is an art, but it’s also physically demanding. After a long session, a dancer is going to have some sore spots. So what should a writer keep in mind when their character gets home from practice? @scriptballerina has this covered.
One Hand Band
Gettin’ down and dirty might not be as easy as it used to be when you’ve lost part of a limb. When you’re writing your fun scenes, you may need to consider some new challenges your characters will likely face such as asymmetric touching. @scriptkink helped this asker with a soldier who’s heading into the bedroom for the first time in a while.
Cold-Blooded Community
Reptiles are strange. Like plants, they have unusual reactions to heat and humidity. What would a world filled with humanoid reptiles need to have to survive? @script-a-world has a good answer ready for you to read.
Bright Life
No longer shall fireflies be the only thing in the sky that glows, for behold, the great glow birb, flying high in the night sky shall forever reign as the most magnificent light of the avian kingdom. But hold on, why are the birb frens glowing all of a sudden? Is that even possible? Well, @scriptgenetics says it could work, so might as well give it a shot

Spirited Practice
You may recall a featured post a few weeks ago from @scriptwitchcraft about banishing spirits. Mod T has taken some time and made a kind of prequel post covering the basics of what spirit work is and how your character would perform some of the basic rituals of spirit work. Hopefully, this will be a good starting point for some of your writing.
