Saturday night was the 50th SDCC Masquerade Costume Competition and I was privileged to have been selected to complete. There were likely thousands of entries, and only 30 spots were available. I’m happy to share that I was awarded an industry award! The Art Directors Guild Cosplay Award for Best Visual Media Design.

When it comes to the whole "object heels" thing, my opinion is basically that sometimes they're clever and cool, and sometimes they're a little too on the nose where they just come across as kinda corny (and downright ugly in some cases)

Overall though, I think the designers at Mattel are over-relying on them right now for Skullector dolls, to the point where they're not really exciting. You can design really cool shoes without defaulting to just slapping an overly complicated shape as a heel and calling it a day. Gen 1, and even Gen 3, have plenty of examples.

San Diego Comic-Con, 2003. Twenty years ago. Where the hell did the time go?

Anyway, a group of us worked for the better part of a year to build the 2nd Age elven armor from the Fellowship of the Ring prolong. And then some friends brought their Orc costumes, and we choreographed a short fight sequence. We took the best workmanship award (and most beautiful, which was a kick in the ass!) at the masquerade.

I did the sculpt of the helmet, some parts of the shield, worked on forming the armor, and did a LOT of painting.

We just had to put ourselves into that swordline since WETA had that huge mural made for their display booth. I remember a lot of people took pictures, but I've never found any online shares.

I do miss this...but not the sore (OMG SORE!!!) feet by convention end.🤣

Time for some history, since many seem to be unaware that this @GuildWars2 charr cosplay has been around for almost a decade.

This is Temperance of @Komickrazi Studios wearing the unnamed charr cosplay that she made for SDCC 2013, and she won Honorable Mention for Best Recreation in the Masquerade.

I waited to announce on Twitter that I had acquired Hildr until July 20, 2021 which was the 8th anniversary of the charr's convention debut and win. I uploaded a better image to Tumblr with a screenshot of the source.

Prior to my public announcement, I privately teased a few people "What has 4 horns, 4 ears, and has been Komickrazi Studios' security guard since 2013?" They all immediately knew what, or who, I was describing.

So glad I got to finish my La Noche cosplay for the San Diego Comic Con Masquerade! *im singing in the audio so apologies for my bad Spanish 😅. Here is the best video yet of our 2017 SDCC Masquerade entry. We performed the story of Daenerys Targeryen to the tune of “Alexander Hamilton” from said musical. We one the Sideshow “Wow Factor” award, and had a freakin’ blast doing it. :D
