Daily fish fact #466
Garfish!
It is a species of needlefish found in the Atlantic Ocean, Baltic Sea, Black Sea and Mediterranean Sea! Because their migration patterns are similar to mackerels', they used to be believed to be guiding or protecting the mackerel! This would give them names like mackerel guide or mackerel guardian.

It’s kind of amazing just how much different types of presentation can give you radically different ideas about animals. Like you take something like the deep-sea dragonfish and the photos they’re presented in often make them look like a leviathan right out of a horror story:
But then you’ll sometimes see a photo that puts them more to scale and then they’re suddenly just
....Little guy.

like that
he was just rolling around minding his own business when some asshole was like lol what if i just grabbed him and so he killed him

as someone whos really into the intricate rituals of piracy (and thinks izzy is too) it hurts me that he didn't get a burial at sea. he lived his whole life there, he cared about piracy as a community, he thought they were good, he deserved to have that life one last time.

There was a blind girl who looked like a cross between Goody Addams and those Annabelle dolls and while we were running from the sea monsters, we got cornered by the police and she stabbed me with a needle while I was trying to call 911.

Daily fish fact #310
Needlefish!
Some species are mistakenly referred to as gars, as they share some resemblance: both kinds of fish are very long, narrow and have sharp teeth! However, they're not closely related species. Funnily enough, the name "gar" has its origins from garfish, a species of needlefish!

the unnamed pov character [simply referred to by she/her pronouns by everything and everyone] for a story I'm writing inspired by amber skies/emerald seas by cryptotheism aka the caretaker, and based on the classic tale of sleeping beauty
i dont actually like drawing my characters that are exclusive for writing, but I thought it would be fun to have an idea. the most solid details about her are that she has blue eyes that blink like old baby dolls do, she has needles for fingers, and mechanisms make up her entire being.
i plan on posting the story on ao3 under the title "sweet dreams dear needles"

Cookie cutter! The little teethsies!!!
I love how they were discovered (utter dumbasses), and they're all the way up there on my top 5 sharks!
People can call them creepy, I just call them cool and interesting.
Also, the way they feed is smart as heck!
