Start Carving, Darling
by sunsetaviary
She is an inferno, she is a terrible thing - the roadkill that brought about its own demise, the roadkill that would not die. Her heart twists painfully at the thought, and the pain is a necessary thing because Caitlyn Kiramman is not good. And then, who is she to wish death upon anyone else, when her own actions left such carnage in their wake.
Her father will tell her, Ambessa led you astray.
But Caitlyn knows, she was wicked long before that.
(Or;
In wake of everything, Caitlyn picks up the pieces.)

I have realized that I should probably make some kind of pinned post, since my neurodivergent ass has decided to take all of my coding skills for custom themes and not use them.
Well, I'm Nishi (she/her). Better known on Discord and Ao3 as Nahikoate (just Nahi is good!). I've been on tumblr before, I'm just very bad at not losing accounts. This blog is probably gonna be a bunch of reblogs, some fandom content, and some original stuff here and there. My main fandom is Puella Magi Madoka Magica or more specifically Magia Record, I suppose? That's the most persistent brainrot at least. There's also Pocket Mirror, that's a big one. But this blog is honestly mostly reblogs and a hub for my TouNemu proselytization. Minimal tagging because I have the memory of a goldfish, occasional nsfw text reblogs (I guess?).
I write a lot. Asks are welcome! So long as you're respectful, I'm friendly, if you're rude, you'll get blocked. And here's what a majority of people are probably here for:
Magia Record Analyses! (Ao3 version recommended)
"The Many Masks of Touka Satomi"
"Nemu Hiiragi: The Shadow"
"Touka, Nemu, and the White Walls"
"Touka, Nemu, and Self-Perception"
"Nemu and her disability"
"TouNemu and astronomy"
"Memoriae Analysis: Touka and Nemu's personal and flower field memoriae"
"The Greek love styles applied to Touka and Nemu"
"Nemu's Buddhist Self-Flagellation"
"Alina Gray Makes A Lot Of Sense"
"TouNemu and Royalty"
"The Uwasa's Hidden Pattern" (aka Controversy Central, I guess)
"The TouNemu Gender Bible"
Some smaller ones and guest essays will be put here:
"Touka shows affection like cats do"
"Nemu is a sadist" (the Ao3 version is much better put together)
"Touka has boy autism and Nemu has girl autism"
"Touka and Nemu are possessive"
Content made by me or my project partner for the Magia Record Minibang (2024) is tagged on this blog as #minibang24 and content made for the subsequent one is #minibangEoS. And for the next one it's #minibang25.
My username on discord is also "nahikoate" and my DMs are open, but I will require that you state your purpose in your first DM if I don't personally know you. I'm always delighted to talk about these two more and hear people's thoughts about all of this or about my fics, so no need to be shy.
As for fic plans for the relatively near future, since some people are interested. "Wildly AU" means I got carried away with made up lore for a new setting of some sort, like the fairies in ACOSAM or the masks in Roadkill:
ACOSAM - current project, in progress, wildly AU
(Untitled) TouNemu Relationship Study - likely to be the next project, a longfic taking place throughout the entirety of the canon timeline
One Makes Two Makes Four - also likely to be next after ACOSAM, this one is a Pocket Mirror crossover that I'm involved with, and also a rare occasion where TouNemu are not the MCs (given Pocket Mirror's... unique set of shenanigans). I'm not sure if this is the title of a fic or a series of three... Each one following Arc 1, Arc 1.5 (kind of), and Arc 2 of Magia Record
(Untitled) Golf - oneshot, in progress, canon timeline
(Untitled) Odyssey - oneshot, by popular demand (it's an Odyssey AU if you couldn't tell)
(Untitled) Mother/Father's Day - twoshot, hoping to get it done by next year, canon timeline
(Untitled) Questions To Fall In Love - oneshot, in progress, canon timeline
(Untitled) Roadkill - longfic, folklore inspired, might be a series with some oneshots and one big fic, less wildly AU but still
(Untitled) Tempest - longfic, high trauma content, mythology inspired, wildly AU
(Untitled) ATLA AU - longfic, exactly what it says on the tin, Avatar Ui if you're wondering
(Untitled) Theater - longfic, somewhat of a murder mystery thing, AU
(Untitled? Idk this one's codename is nice) Sakura Ties - longfic, single parent/teacher AU where Sakurako is Nemu's 11 year old adopted daughter and tries to get her mom and favorite teacher together
No promises for anything else. You're encouraged to send asks about these projects if you're curious.

[ID: A series of screenshots of a social media post and replies to it. They read as follows:
[Image 1] alimilne: I recently saw a TikTok where a woman asked 'girlies: what are some things you do to be more whimsicla. I love knowing about cute little habits.' [line break] And I've never loved a comment section more. Some of my faves:
[Image 2] thebloggess: A friend made me joyous taxidermied raccoons out of roadkill and I create happy scenes of them on adventures using American Doll props (to the continued bafflement of my cats and husband). [The text is followed by a image of said taxidermied raccoons on a pink scooter. This is followed by another image, with the raccoons in the same position but with a cat looking at the raccoons.]
[Image 3] Grace: I wear matching pajamas every time I change my sheets so I can have what I call fancy sleep
[Image 4] Kaitlyn Hunt: I hold "office hours" every Tuesday at a local coffee shop, which means I sit on the couch and order drinks for 4-5 hours while various friends and acquaintances visit me to yap abt books and gossip.
[Image 5] rene.egg (1d ago): if I want to have negative thoughts about myself I have to think them in a cockney accent
[Image 6] leaturnerholt (1d ago): I call my to do list my TA DA list and do jazz hands as I tick things off.
[Image 7] lawlessmcgee (1d ago): I wash dishes by candlelight, listening to Medieval tavern music, and pretend I'm a taverb wench.
[Image 8] unabashedlyerin (1d ago): I teach the dog how to do things either to make them more interesting for me ("Let me show you how to start a load of laundry") or just to make him feel included ("Do you remember how to make coffee, or should I walk you through it again? I know it's hard to remember since you can't practice without thumbs.")
[Image 9] candymandingo (1d ago): When I leave the house I always tell my dog "no parties while I'm gone!" And then laugh so he knows he is 100% allowed to throw parties if he wants.
[Image 10] caitlincc7 (1d ago): Oooooh love these! I'll add one: whenever I buy something online and it asks "is this a gift?" I write a little gift message to myself, usually along the lines of "you are awesome and deserve these little treats."
[Image 11] Tessa: listen to french music in my headphones while I grocery shop. Makes it more romantic and less mundane feeling
[Image 12] Kat: I tell my hamster not to answer the door for anyone before I leave
[Image 13] Car: I like drinking water at night out of small wooden bowls. It makes me feel like I'm being nursed back to health by spirits
[Image 14] skinnyminnow: Whenever I drop or fuck something up when I'm alone I bow & say "and scene" instead of getting frustrated. I've done this for so long that I literally no longer get annoyed by my own mistakes & laughing is my first instinct anytime anything goes wrong lol
[Image 14] s y d: I say 'my lady' whenever i walk by a mirror
[Image 15] oi dipsh t: "can you hold this please" when I set my purse on an inanimate object
[Image 16] Lexis: I tell my dishes it's bath time
[Image 17] Josie: I say "well good thing no one overreacted" out loud to myself after a good cry

This page does not include all the reblogs and crossposts from TikTok.
P.S. - most of the fanfics I've written are a few years old so I apologize if some of them are cringy. I also don't have a beta reader yet and mostly post my fanfics immediately after writing them so there might be a few mistakes here and there.

Bkdk Fic Rec
I’ve been inspired to write a fic rec! This one goes out to you @lonely-rabbit
At like, the end of 2018 and the beginning of 2019 I stayed up until 4am every night reading fics, and because I’m such a loser, I made a word doc to keep track of all of them so I wouldn’t forget them.... I tried organizing it by length but it got messy cause I’m ridiculous and cluttered, so sorry! (I’ll save my own for the end alskdjflsdkfj gotta self promote you know). This is going to get...really long, so I’ll put it under a read more! Also, just a heads up, these are all on ao3, in case that’s important to anyone!
Disclaimer: Any fics with mature or explicit content I will add a bolded warning for, even if it’s only a little bit. Normally most fics will be tagged as such, but some fics that are rated as teen I’ve found to be more suggestive than some of those rated as mature, so I will try to point it out where it feels necessary, for anyone who wishes to avoid it.
Fics under 1k:
Illuminate by TheQueen (269 words)
Summary: Bakugou watches the first firework launch and fights to keep his face neutral
Very short, plot is about a case of amnesia, also very cute and well written for that length! Not angsty at all imo
sweaty hands holding secrets - shounentwink (563 words)
Summary: Someone said Midoriya holds secrets in his hair.
It’s not true: He holds it tightly in his hands. Bakugou’s seen it.
I really like this writer! You’ll see quite a bit of them in this post alkdsjfalskdjf
Fics 1k - 10k:
Many sunflowers later - Jeka (2395 words)
Summary: Scholar Midoriya Izuku comes back to the person he left behind after his journey through the kingdom, the mighty dragon clan leader Bakugou Katsuki.
Day 1 of Twin Stars Week 2020: Fantasy AU.
First of all, fantasy au!!! Second of all, jeka!!! (I need to read more of your stuff!!) Anyways, so cute, such lovely, pretty writing, wonderful story telling, and they’re so in love TT_TT
Boom Badoom Boom - warschach (3429 words)
Summary: Izuku's working the kissing booth at the school fair, it just so happens Katsuki has been crushing on him since the first grade.
“Did you—“ Izuku parted his mouth with no sound leaving it, “Did you pay?”
“Yea.”
“For a kiss?”
This one’s a little silly but I love it still. It’s got a “kids in the 80′s over summer vacation” vibe, I think. I love warschach! I should read more of their writing... They have SUCH good bakudeku content! *It’s rated teen but there’s some suggestive content, just a heads up!
Hopeless Ramen-tic - lalazee (7155 words)
Summary:  Midoriya is a cute guy who works at a ramen stall and Bakugou is thirsty as hell, but has to hide it by being an asshat. Another love story.
Ah, so good TT_TT so much sass, such good plot development and story telling for a simple concept *It’s rated as teen but again, it can be suggestive at times!
I’ll share this with you, so leave it behind - yabakuboi (3508 words)
Suammry: For the sake of the story, All Might is never in need of a successor, and, when Izuku saves Katsuki from the sludge monster, encourages young Midoriya down a different path. Thus, Katsuki and Izuku part ways after junior high, as Katsuki enters U.A. and the Midoriyas move overseas. It’s later that Katsuki realizes that there’s something missing, that he drove that something away.
Years after, Katsuki finds him in the last place he looks, in the cereal aisle at the local grocery store of their childhood neighborhood.
So soft, so sweet, so good if you just want to curl up in a comfy blanket and drink hot cocoa and feel warm and cozy and a little in love
The Secret Deku Box - yabakuboi (2241 words)
Summary: “Y’know, Bakugou never, ever talks about girls,” Kaminari says, his voice thoughtful.
“And I wonder why that is.” Ashido rolls her eyes.
“I’m just curious!” Kaminari whines. Kirishima drags the box out, unlabeled and unassuming, the lid not even fully clasped over the edges. “The guy has to— Whoa, what’s that?”
Kirishima realizes a little belatedly that this is a serious breach of privacy, and Bakugou will actually murder all of them. “Nothing!” he cries, attempting to shove it back under the bed, but Ashido snatches it away.
“Please be his porn stash!” Kaminari whispers as she whips the lid off.
Cute, funny, in canon, in character, and a must read I would say!
daisy bunches and heather branches - halcyonwhispers (5862 words)
Summary:  izuku falls in love with the foul-mouthed tattoo artist next door.
Not another flower/tattoo shop au.... aldskjflaskdjfd Okay but punk!Bakugou is ALWAYS a smart move imo
the best part of me (is the worst I can give) - halcyonwhispers (5668)
Summary: Whole sentences usually make up people’s Words, but Katsuki got stuck with a name instead.
Izuku’s name.
I am such a sucker for soulmate aus when it comes to these boys TT_TT *There is some mature content, just a heads up!
Hard to Say - halcyonwhispers (8390 words)
Summary: Izuku is a Halfling, born after his faerie father spirited away his mom and then left her behind. Never quite fitting in with the humans or any of the supernatural beings in his small town, Izuku hoped that going to a diverse college in the big city will help him finally make friends.
Katsuki’s family has been powerful witches for generations, and he’s no different. Talented and a proclaimed genius to boot, he knew he shouldn’t waste his time on this dumbass (disgustingly cute) half-blood.
Or,
two idiots fall in love and don’t get that the other’s awkward cues are just a result of romantic tension.
I am ALSO a sucker for fantasy/mythical creatures au and I LOVED this one - Bakugou absolutely unable to handle how cute Midoriya is? Perfection - but it’s unfinished, and I don’t think it ever will be continued, unfortunately TT_TT
lots to unpack (throw away the whole suitcase) - shounentwink (4315 words)
Summary: “How’d you know?” Midoriya asks.
There’s a hunch to his shoulders that wasn’t there three hours ago. Freckled shoulders are kissed sunburnt and red: he looks like someone ran him over and left him like roadkill in the sunlight. Bakugou’s working with insurance today, but he could see the sparks of green lightning even from his elevated position in their shared agency. Midoriya’s holding his thumb, cracking it over and over — it looks like he’s rubbed it raw.
“Dunno,” Bakugou says. “Maybe you’re just easy to read, nerd.”
I love this one so much, it was one of the first ones I read, it’s so good, and it’s another that really affected how I view their relationship! Idk this one just hit for me
hang the moon from us (it’s a no from me) - shounentwink (1200 words)
Summary: Midoriya’s gonna get sick of Bakugou one of these days, and then the whole ruse will be over, and the balance of power will tilt beyond salvation, but that day isn’t today and it looks like Bakugou knows it.
What an asshole.
Once again, I’m a sucker for the fantasy au... But even more, the diction, the details, the imagery...it’s absolutely all stunning here. I wish I could write this pretty
In Which Bakugou Finds His One Tru Luv - Erina (5862 words) This is the first one of a series called The Misadventures of Explodo-kill Agency!
Summary:  Welcome to the Explodo-kill agency! We can destroy your buildings, crash your cars, and help you solve one of the seven mysteries in life: who is Bakugou Katsuki's mysterious boyfriend?!
I’ll admit I’ve only read the first three but by god they are the funniest fics I’ve ever read in my life. I see that Erina has added more since the last time I checked it out! Tbh I was only interested in reading the purely bakudeku ones... (My favorite was the second one!! SO funny and cute!)
i still do - raeryn (9646 words)
Summary:  He’s losing him to pieces, but Izuku still tries to make them count. In which a battle leaves Bakugou Katsuki with amnesia, and Izuku finds himself picking up the pieces.
So, this one makes me cry. TT_TT
One Thing Straight - winningshot (9899 words)
Summary: They totally aren't.
Hints of their relationship is found in all of their friends’ social media accounts, but majority of their fans still think that Katsuki and Izuku are in relationships with anybody but each other.
It was amusing up until it became sad.
Lmao it’s a little salty but I guess I can be too. This is a social media fic! There’s multiple ships in this one, too
A Demolition Boy & his Cryptid BF - kewltie (8472 words)
Summary: Bakugou of the Demolition Squad is famous for running one of the most popular Youtube channels on the web that regularly blow shit up and jumped off a perfectly good building for shit and giggles. He's also famous for his Cryptid BF™, never appearing on camera except for a few bodyshots and all information on him is kept locked up tighter than Fort Knox, therefore drawing all sort of attention and curiosity toward his mysterious boyfriend.
Deku from Deku Explains is a hopeless chatterbox who is known for uploading 20-30 minutes video that talked about his favorite shows and comics and have one of the most devoted following on Youtube. He also can't seem to shut up about his boyfriend Kacchan, who regularly make his presence on the channel as a disembodied voice.
They should theoretically have nothing in common except a shared platform to host their content and an army of fans with an endless curiosity and devotion to their Youtubers. Vidcon is where we lay our scene and the internet is about to get a rude wake up call.
Okay kewltie is SO GOOD and very creative! The formatting is phenomenal, it’s like you’re actually experiencing a social media melt down in real time lol
be my good luck charm - writedeku (6785 words)
Summary: See, the thing is, Midoriya Izuku had been born with a curse. It’s not a curse that’s particularly visible. He doesn’t have horns, or a tortured face, and it’s not the kind of silly curse like a friend of his had way down south in Diagnor, wherein the girl had been born without the ability to say the word duck. Midoriya Izuku is just extremely unlucky.
(Or the AU in which Izuku's the world's unluckiest travelling merchant, and Katsuki is someone who may be able to help him. For a price, that is.)
Oh I adore this one! It’s so cute and such a good narrative! Nice and warm, and Bakugou trying his damnedest to be suave, and it somehow working because Midoriya is just as flustered. *Another one rated as teen but some suggestive content.
Smells Like Victory - majjale (2377 words)
Summary: Bakugou takes two steps into the room and stops, clapping a hand over his nose. “Ugh, what stinks like Deku in here?”
"Good afternoon, Bakugou. That would be the amortentia."
I must admit, not a fan of HP, but majjale...TT_TT majjale writes these two boys so well. This one is really, really good!
Cherish Me - Justaperson1718 (2376 words)
Summary: “What?”
Izuku looked back down at his menu and flipped the page, a small smile on his face. “Nothing.”
Katsuki glared at Izuku from across the table. “If it was nothing then you wouldn’t be staring at me.”
“It’s just a little funny watching you try to look your best for our date when you always look great anyway,” Izuku explained. He wouldn’t look up from his menu while he spoke, but his words remained ingrained with confidence nevertheless. He considered what he was saying to be fact, and nothing else. “Even when you’re not trying in front of the cameras, it’s still hard to take my eyes off of you.”
This is a sequel to a fic that’ll be in the next section, because it’s longer, called Manage Me. Please read that one first before this one! (Not part of a series, but they’re the same story line)
Fascinating - Justaperson1718 (1556 words)
Summary: “I’m not staring at you,” Izuku replied, his eyes focused intently on Katsuki. He’s still wearing his pajamas, sitting on his knees in their shared bed. He was awake moments before Katsuki, and waited eagerly for the other to awake.
Katsuki glanced over his shoulder after his shirt was on and glared. “You’re fucking staring at me right now.”
Izuku shook his head, humming his disapproval quietly. “I’m watching you.”
“That’s the same damn thing,” Katsuki said while searching for a pair of pants in the dresser. “Your eyes are fixated on me like I’m your life’s fucking goal or some shit.”
“I just like watching you get dressed.” Izuku tilted his head to the side and smiled softly at Katsuki’s confused stare. “I know, it’s weird. But I like it.”
*There is a little bit of implied mature content, but overall, it’s just so sweet and intimate, and I just simply adore this one.
in a place once filled with gold - dorenamryn (9226 words)
Summary: It felt strange to remember such details, for they were things a friend should know, and as far as Katsuki was concerned, he and Deku hadn’t been friends in a very, very long time. He could admit, with reluctance, that they were on the path there, now, even though they would never make it. Katsuki would die before they could get the chance.
or: There is a garden growing in Katsuki’s lungs, and he is helpless to stop it.
“Hanahaki disease” okay, I can explain myself. Okay, I can’t. In any case, you got angst with a happy ending if that’s what you’re into!
Kaleidoscope - DPRenFTW (5141 words)
Summary: Izuku is a witch. He just needs to find his familiar. Enter a boy that is a wolf, and a wolf that is a boy - with wild red eyes and sharp smiles.
And Izuku thinks:
"Oh, it's him."
Just as beautiful and fascinating as the name implies! I seriously recommend for the beautiful writing, the gorgeous world, the mythical creatures au, and the lovely bakudeku romance!
Learning Curve - sensiblysilly (4222 words)
Summary: Deku and Katsuki’s first kiss goes rather differently than planned.
And Katsuki’s quickly learning that relationships can be unpredictable - especially when taking into account the variable that is Midoriya Izuku.
This really is just a careful handling of a teenage romance where perhaps one of them may have shit they’re still working through. It’s really sweet, and a careful study at boundaries and the building of a relationship. I actually stumbled across this while looking for another with the same name and ended up pleasantly surprised. Kacchan can has a little validation, as a treat.
4/20 is a national holiday - Ereri_Garbage (
Summary: Izuku is a drug dealer that doesn't really accept the fact he's a drug dealer, Katsuki is hot as hell as shouldn't be allowed a facebook.
Happy (Late) birthday Katsuki and happy (late) 4/20. I actually half assed an edit on this one so it took longer to post than I thought it would.
Uummmm lmao yes I have a sense of humor. ;ALDSKJFLSKDJF Okay, I say that, but this is not a crack fic, it’s a good story that I enjoy with good writing, and *it has mature, content, obviously for multiple reasons here. It’s rated as mature but there are borderline explicit moments imo. It’s a fun fic and funny, too! And, ngl, it really does remind me of college... But forget about me, the bakudeku is wonderful too of course :)
Drinking Watermelon - warschach (8906 words)
Summary: For whatever reason, maybe divine fate, Izuku turned and looked over his shoulder and waved to them.
Katsuki’s heart full on stopped right then, and his fingers forgot their duty on the rails, and his body neglected its job to keep Katsuki balanced.
Izuku’s summer sweet smile fell into concern as Katsuki went airborne and cracked his skull on the porch.
or Katsuki works as a camp counselor, and Izuku is a boy made of summer heat and sunlight.
Love it when people have Bakugou as absolutely enamored with Midoriya; it’s so good and true. Anyways this one makes me like summer camp story lines. It’s funny and also cute and great writing! *It’s got explicit content, just a heads up. Warschach stories just have this youthful 80′s vibe, I don’t know how else to explain it.
there are listed buildings - semiautomatichearts (3309)
Summary: Katsuki first sees colors bloom when he is only three years old. It is timid Izuku, hiding behind the cover of his mother's leg who looks upon him with wide eyes, and Katsuki's world explodes in shades of greens and pinks and blues, and he is so startled, he begins to cry.
His life is then on defined in color, in shades his peers can't see, by the forlorn, timid stare in Izuku's eyes that always lets off more than he is willing to tell. There is a schism driven between himself and his fated other, and Katsuki strives to be better than fate, better than what is defined for him. He is more than the written pages of a book, to be cracked open and read by the gods.
He wonders if it is possible for colors to bloom for someone who will never love you back.
Ah...soulmates :) So interesting how bakudeku fits into soulmate aus like this one when they’ve known each other as kids! And when they’ve had this complex push and pull thing going on all their lives! The writing is beautiful, and so is the story!
Promise Ring - bkdkwritingsdump (3579)
Summary:  The midwest in the 1950′s is no place for boys who like kissing boys: something Izuku and Katsuki know all too well growing up there. However, the undeniable bond between the nervous science geek and the aloof delinquent will still find a way to blossom in such a desert.
Cute, sweet, makes my gay heart ache. Longing not just for the one you love, but just to feel right loving them. Very pretty story line, lovely story telling!
Fics 10k - 30k:
Fishy - warschach (19417 words)
Summary: Izuku’s convinced his hot co-worker/neighbor, Katsuki, is a mermaid-or merman- you gotta consider genders even with mythical creatures- and plans to prove it.
(or this is kinda like the show ‘Monster Quest’, except Izuku actually finds said monster, falls in love, and have sexy times.)
Another warschach! I love this one, I love how they write bakudeku, particularly as college students, their stories (at least, the ones that I’ve read) always feel so warm, like a summer’s day, but not a lazy one, one that’s playful? If that makes sense? *This one is explicit, another heads up!
Manage Me - Justaperson1718 (10756 words)
Summary: Izuku caught himself moving forward, his head tilted somewhat to the side, and his eyes shot wide open. His gaze met Katsuki’s half-lidded eyes now that he was no longer in a dreamlike state, and seeing the way Katsuki was looking at him—waiting for him—made him realize Katsuki would’ve let him do it. He might have even wanted him to do it.
“You’re both doing fabulous!” the photographer called out to them, packing his camera into his bag and getting ready to leave. “I just got word that what we have now should be good, so we’ll stop there. Thank you for your time! Lock the door on your way out after you change.”
The pair stayed frozen in place, with Izuku’s arms around Katsuki’s neck and Katsuki’s hands resting on Izuku’s waist, while the photographer and his supervisor left.
“Kacchan,” Izuku cooed once they were gone. “Did you want to…?”
Love the story, love the bakudeku! Very, very good bakudeku TT_TT very sweet *There is some mature content in here as well
point to a map (we’ve been there) - cosmicfuss (10589 words)
Summary: Serendipity / sĕr″ən-dĭp′ĭ-tē Serendipity is the occurrence of an unplanned fortunate discovery. Two men find themselves on a subway, hot coffee on one while the other is in the middle of a screaming match. After that they can't seem to stop finding each other, no matter how far they go.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again; this fic owns my entire soul. I love the story, the ease of their relationship, just how lovely they are together. It’s another kind of nice, fluffy fic you’d read on a bad day where you come home and curl up in a blanket and listen to a ten hour video of thunderstorm white noise. *Again, some more mature content in here
Partners - tsukithewolf (13619 words) Another series! Two parts to this one this time
Summary: It is said that in Musutafu there is a charm that one can buy at a temple that will lead you to your destined partner. They say that if the charm works, you would be able to follow the red string of fate to the person you were meant to be with. And if the person returns your feelings, they would be able to see the string as well, proving that both were meant to be.
Three-year-old Katsuki and Izuku misunderstand what the word "partner" means and discover the charm and the rumor behind it is not only true, but more than expected.
Gets a little heavy, depression, bullying, suicidal thoughts, etc. But it must get worse before it gets better, that kind of thing. I also just adore the second part (called Bond) - maybe because it’s much fluffier, what about it?
Learning Curve - iknewaman (10304 words)
Summary: “Izuku.” Uraraka repeats as she motions at the person stood next to her. Green curls, average height, and, well. Up close, not such a bad smile. Uraraka points a thumb at Bakugou and enunciates slowly, “This is Bakugou. He can speak sign language too.”
Wait. Sign language?
The stranger— well, Izuku— looks at him with a raised brow. Their free hand lifts up as they make a slight motion of the hand.‘
Really?’
*
Bored out of his mind at a house party one night Bakugou is introduced to Izuku, a deaf student who offers to help teach Bakugou sign language in exchange for a favour-- or well, is prompted into asking for a favour.
Ah, I really want to explain this one a little bit? I’d never been into fanfiction ever, only really getting into it with these boys. This was the second one I read, I remember, and it caught me off guard, and it intrigued me. It really surprised me as to what fanfiction could be. Ngl I had biased perceptions of fanfics - I used to be one of those people who thought fanfiction could never be good writing - and this one slapped me in the face with it’s subtle beauty and creative story and heart melting capabilities, and very, very real relationship and growth. Anyways it’s so cute how happy Deku is to teach Kacchan sign language TT_TT Make sure to read the tags!
The Keeper and the Sun God’s Heir - SurelyHeavenWaits (12746 words)
Summary:  The Titans' have stolen something important from Izuku, heir of the Sun God, and he wants it back.
This one, this one, this one, this one, this one, this one, this one, this one this one- Oh my god this one. Okay so what, I was a Percy Jackson kid, what about it? I love the mythical aus, particularly the god ones. But beyond that, the writing is so beautiful, just like the world, and the imagery. The bakudeku...absolutely stunning. The story itself? Incredible. Cannot recommend more. *There is explicit content in this, though I will say, it’s all in the last chapter, and all of the story is in the first two chapters. There’s also a second part as it’s a series and it’s short but it’s cute and sweet TT_TT
seven days - aaAAAaaahhhhHHHHH (10094 words)
Summary: There’s something about the green haired boy, an aura that just drew Katsuki in before he even knew his name.
[Sometimes your mind forgets, but your heart remembers]
Heed my warning: DON’T read this in front of other people. I bawl every time I read this one TT_TT I know I said I don’t like angst but AJLSKDFJALSKDFJ it has a hopeful ending! I mean yeah you’re gonna cry but...hope? :’) (that username really says it all tbh)
Fics 30k+
Notice me, nerd - useless_donut (40000 words)
Summary: Bakugou is in love with Midoriya. He doesn’t hide it, in fact it’s so painfully obvious that the entire class of 3-A has him figured out in a matter of months (days, in some cases). Too bad Midoriya is the most oblivious motherfucker out there, and Bakugou is too damn stubborn to actually ask him out.
Will the class of 3-A survive the sexual tension? Who will snap first? Someone put Bakugou out of his misery, please, before everyone else dies of second-hand embarrassment.
(a love story as witnessed by the class of 3-A)
Love the idea of Bakugou being brazen and brash, cause yeah, he is. So fucking funny though how that translates to him flirting. Gotta say, thought I was gonna cringe, but his “I’m gay af” outfit really ended up being A Look. Love the mutual pining, it really is strong in this one. *Okay, mature content in this one lads.
While You Were Sleeping - Belkacaramelka (71197 words)
Summary: The one where quirkless fanboy Midoriya Izuku rescues Pro Hero Todoroki Shouto, gets mistaken as his fiancé while he is in a coma, and gets caught up in the most unlikely fake engagement... until his childhood enemy and Todoroki's classmate Bakugou Katsuki tries to catch him out, and they both end up discovering a lot more about each other than they'd expected.
Quirkless AU based on the film; endgame BakuDeku. -- Katsuki didn’t know when the change had happened: how he had gone from asking why Todoroki chose Deku of all people, to wondering why it was Todoroki that Deku chose. Troublesome Deku, who cooed like an idiot at cats, tripped at a random catcall and sang badly. Who, despite everything, proved that it wasn’t the quirk that defined a person. Deku, who was too much, not his, and undeniably off limits to begin with.
Update: Epilogue added
*This one has mature content. If you can, please, for the love of god, read this fic. It’s like, tied with my favorite bkdk fic perhaps ever. It’s based on the movie of the same title, a nineties romcom with Sandra Bullock, but Belkacaramelka has so effortlessly made it into it’s own story, fit it so perfectly inside of the bnha world. I definitely stayed up until 6:30am reading this one. It’s got such good badass Midoriya, who is also sweet, and really really good reconciliation between bakudeku.
All Gifted - fitzefitcher (39129 words)
Summary: The thing about gifts is that they're meant to be given, they're meant to be shared; so Izuku will take his gifts, so freely given to him, and share them with all he holds dear.
Izuku is born without any gifts, as his kind often are, to a witch mother and salamander father, on one sweltering night in July.
This one is unfinished...and I highly doubt it will ever be. But what has been written is incredible. Once again, I’m a sucker for the magic/mythical creatures aus. But the relationship is great! The characterization is great! The found family trope that was building up is great!
under a hollow sun - umbrage (40572 words)
Summary: Midoriya is cursed with emptiness.
Misfortune leads him to a man of ancient magic and endless rage.
To stop an unfathomable evil, their mismatched halves must become whole.
Uuuggghhhh this was so good! I don’t think it’s going to be finished either :( Once again, fantasy au, more amazing writing, on point characterization, incredible pacing, makes you hungry for more story.
all the savage soul requires - majjale (58032 words)
Summary: Bakugou seems to have exhausted his patience for words and no longer acknowledges that Midoriya exists, so Midoriya crosses his legs, stares down at his hands limned in firelight, and makes a list of things he knows.
One. His name is Midoriya Izuku.
Two. He is a Godmarked, future god of life, heir to the divine throne.
Three. The gods have been fighting Death for eons, and now he's coming for recompense with everything he’s got.
This is majjale, so of course, the writing is more than beautiful; it’s absolutely breathtaking. This may be my favorite fic ever - unfortunately I don’t think it will ever be finished either TT_TT There’s the gods/fantasy au, which you know by now I love. But the characterization of our two boys is absolutely perfect, and I mean that as literally as possible. And the story being crafted between the two, the memory loss, the obvious history muddled by it all, it was so dense, and the PINING, so incredibly written, flowing so naturally. It wasn’t even close to being done, but it was wonderful, still is wonderful.
My Writing: (You can skip this if you hate shameless self promotion)
You’re too damn flicking cute (1815 words)
Summary:  Bakugou is certain his shitty boyfriend is instigating kisses. Maybe it doesn't help that he keeps giving them away like it's a damn going out of business sale, but the stupid nerd is too fucking cute. Either way, like everything else, this is a competition, and he's going to win it.
Please don’t read this unless you’re going to the dentist afterwards! I’ve been told it’s so sweet it’ll give you instant cavities >_>;;;;
Bakugou Katsuki, you smooth motherfucker (10118 words)
Summary: Everyone around him knows that Bakugou Katsuki has a very special way with words. To the untrained ear he is loud and crass; to those that speak Kacchan, he is caring and inspiring. Yet there are rare moments, moments so fleeting you blink and you miss them, where Bakugou’s words pierce straight through Midoriya’s chest, and surprise everyone around him.
Goddammit, if only he would say them to Midoriya’s face.
Or, the five times Bakugou said something nice about Midoriya, and the one time he said something kind to him (but that was too long of a title).
I think most would consider this my best published fic; it’s one of those snapshot fics, “the five times where x did this, and the one time where they didn’t.” The recurring comment I get on this one is both of them being super in character, so I think that’s it’s defining characteristic! Bakugou and Midoriya have never known a life without the other, and in a perfect world, they never will.
Here, let me fix that (11247 words)
Summary: Bakugou honestly never thought he’d see Deku ever again. And now that they were together in this tiny compartment, alone for the next two and a half minutes, he had no clue what to say. He’d just apologized, right? So perhaps he could leave it at that and carry on with the original plan to never see the green-haired man that reminded him of dense forests, late night adventures, and tear-stained faces, ever again.
Ha! Who is he kidding? These bitches are soulmates.
I’ve gotten some critiques on this one, so sorry in advance if it’s not to your liking! Basically, what if Midoriya never got his quirk? Obviously, life would find a way to put them together because, as previously stated, these bitches are soulmates.
Plenty of Time (16654 words)
Summary: Bakugou found what little sleep he got restless and filled with nightmares that he forgot the second he opened his eyes. Tonight was the first time in a long time where he just had a normal dream - and it happened to be about Deku.
How fucking typical.
In other words, two dorks realize they have feelings for each other but don't know what to do about said feelings.
Ah, my first fic. Very simple, boys being boys, kinda like a slow burn? Idk how to explain this one, just boys figuring out their feelings and trying to figure out what to do about them. Been told these two are a little stupid but I think that’s valid.
We’re all time bombs waiting to explode (39223 words)
Summary: We have now entered the slipstream of time, into an alternate dimension where it neither is, nor isn’t, the 80’s. Two teenagers, burdened with the weight of adolescence in the modern world, find themselves struggling side by side, in part because of each other.
Bakugou, the most popular boy in school, has everything he could possibly want; status, power, and an unbreakable will. Having been dragged along behind him all the way to the top, Midoriya can’t help but wonder how (and why) he ended up standing beside his childhood friend-turned bully-turned friend again, weighed down by their complicated past and present. As the tension between them grows every day, and the arrival of a new, pretty face causes it to peak, it won’t be long before something - or someone - snaps.
I am...very bad at titles, and summaries apparently. This was my Heathers au, but it very quickly diverges from the original (I don’t do sad endings....) *This one has mature content, including implied sexual activity, drug use, and underage drinking, along with other heavy topics; please read the tags! Though tbh Midoriya is 17 for a couple weeks before it hits his birthday halfway through, so keep that in mind I guess? I kind of went heavy with this one, but I think the pay off was immense. This is the one with the most amount of comments stating it’s their favorite bkdk fic ever (and I cry). It’s a rough start, with a rough journey, but so is bakudeku! There’s a lot of petty drama, and then all of a sudden it’s Not That Petty and very much Far Too Real. Many have cried reading the ending, I cried writing it. My sister says it’s her favorite of mine. Now, I did kind of push this out without polishing it so much because I was losing my willpower, so if it feels lacking, that’s one hundred percent my fault.
Okay that was a lot! It took me a couple days...I hope I wasn’t too annoying with all my opinions! Please have a nice day. and enjoy some good reads, even if they aren’t the ones in this post!

The Walking Dead, “Days Gone Bye” | Analysis
Tumblr media
The final season of The Walking Dead comes in August, so I decided to rewatch the show from the beginning as the end is nigh. TWD has been a part of me since I started to watch TV series, and I’ve watched Days Gone Bye more than seven times, so this is certainly one of the pieces of audiovisual media that I’ve consumed the most. To add a new interesting layer in my rewatches, I’ve decided to see the episodes with a critical and analytical lens, seeing it more than just as a pastime, and write my thoughts here. This will be a great ride for me, and I can’t wait to see again some iconic moments from TWD throughout the seasons and write about them.
Part 1: The World Before
Tumblr media
Before getting into the first act of the episode, let me talk about the teaser – the first five minutes of the episode – quickly. As this is our introduction to the world of TWD, Days Gone Bye couldn’t simply start with Rick and Shane having a chat. So it was necessary that the teaser served as a way to establish both the tone and setting of this story, and it certainly does. The teaser tells us that what we are watching is a gritty survival horror story that takes place in a post-apocalyptic world, and the teaser establishes this perfectly without no more than two lines of dialogue. It is established visually: Rick stops his car on a deserted road with no traces of civilization anywhere, then goes to an abandoned gas station where other cars are  – and those cars have dead bodies inside. From there, we know right from the start that this isn’t the world we live in. When Rick sees the young girl that is in fact a walker, it is established that this is a world where the main threat are zombies. At least for some part, as in future episodes the series will show us something far more scarier than walking cannibal dead bodies is the real danger.
Now storytelling-wise, TWD already proved its value in the first five minutes. Frank Darabont directed the episode and wrote the script, and his work in the episode both as director and writter is fantastic and set the bar high if the series wanted to have a consistency of greatness in its episodes. After the perfect five minutes purely composed of visual storytelling, the first scene of the first act is dialogue-heavy and character-driven. One would think that it is to establish to us that Rick and Shane are friends, that Rick has a wife and son and that they are cop buddies, and one would be right, but it is also more than simply introduction and exposition, and that’s the beauty of the audiovisual medium as a whole.
Reading books about screenplay writing, I’ve come to know more about subtext and its applications in both movies and series. Despite this first scene doing great work in introducing us to the two main characters of the season – their mindset, persona and some backstory – it also adds so much worldbuilding-wise. Shane goes on his rant about women not switching off the lights in a house before leaving it, and Rick talks about a discussion he and Lori had earlier. See, the teaser showed us a decaying world with walking bodies. Now, the first minutes of act one show us a world where people worry about such trivialities: switching off the lights. In the tagline for the first volume of the comic book, it reads “The world we knew is gone. The world of commerce and frivolous necessity has been replaced by a world of survival and responsibility“. The scene I mentioned is basically the live-action adaptation of it. We see the world of commerce and frivolous necessity in this introduction so we can understand better and fear the world of survival and responsibility that will come later in the episode. TWD started geniously: it went from visually-driven to dialogue-driven, and after that to visually-driven storytelling, all without losing its verisimilitude and charm.
Tumblr media
Now, something about the visuals I loved: the grainy aspect. Because this episode was shot on film – in fact, up until season ten all episodes were shot on film – the film grain is obviously visible. But instead of being just an aesthetic choice – shooting in film or digital – I think it’s also meant to have implications tone-wise. The comic books this series adapt is in black-and-white (something unusual in American comics), but it’s because the writer Robert Kirkman wanted the comic to feel like a classic George Romero zombie flick, and it worked completely. Commercially, a black-and-white TV series wouldn’t be much embraced by a large and mainstream public, but I think that Darabont solved that problem and succeeded in maintaining an aesthetic similar to the feel the comic book wanted to transmit. The excessive film grain – something that made me feel like watching a Panos Cosmatos’ movie but without the acid trips – works because it resembles the Romero zombie flicks in color, like Dawn of the Dead. It is a classical and archetypal zombie story – even if it subverts some conventions various times throughout the series – and the visuals tell us that.
Not only that, but the episode has many moments that resembled The Mist in some ways: the camera being close to its characters to make the story feel grounded and experienced by real people, the back shots to make the audience feel like they are following the characters in their journeys, the handhold camera moments that gives a documentary feel, adding a realistic perspective. All that grants a grounded vibe to the episode, which works because this is a story about how people react and live in a lawless world which can kill them at any possible moment without any warnings. It’s where chaos and anarchy reigns and where death always lurks. A story like that works better when it’s experienced through the eyes of the characters. It’s also best represented in the moment where Rick leaves the hospital and sees the sun for the first time. In the shot, the Sun is blinding us with its shining light, but then there’s a cut, and in the next shot we see only Rick covering his eyes while the blinding sun rays don’t make it to the camera. It’s the switch of subjective to objective perspective, as in the first we see the world with Rick eyes – it’s a man getting out of the dark for the first time in months – and in the second we see the same moment but from outside lens, and it showed us that this a day like any other where the sun doesn’t blind you. Besides, this episode has a low budget sensitivity – not meaning that the quality is subpar, but that it has an authenticity that is extremely convincing. It is that low budget quality that makes the story feel real in a certain way. That is, of course, until the tank in the middle of a city is shown, but even with the realism, it is still tangible, and the story continues to feel realistic in its depiction of a zombie apocalypse in the “real world”.

The whole sequence of the car chase and the shooting between the cops and the criminals is beautifully conducted by Darabont, who knows his craft remarkably and executes it in a manner like no one else does. The memorable shots, shot by Darabont, immortalize the whole sequence and reach its climax – the gunshot Rick suffers – perfectly in a crescendo that works better here than in the comics, this being an easy task, but still, Darabont managed to do it in an impressive way, totally deserving a bravado status.
Also, something that I also appreciated, and I think it’s overlooked: when the police cruiser where Rick and Shane are passes through a road, we see a single crow eating a roadkill. What do this mean exactly? Animals can’t turn to zombies so one might think this is only a moment with no meaning behind it. But now I interprete it as a symbol. It is meant to represent that society has be decaying long before the dead came to eat the living. It remembers me the first Mad Max, where the world is not in the same level as it appears in Mad Max 2: Road Warrior – a full-on post-apocalyptic society – but it is in its final stages, leaning to barbarism and uncontrollable chaos. The producers of TWD announced an anthology spin-off series named Tales of the Walking Dead, and it certainly would be interesting to see more of the transition between our world and the post-apocalyptic zombie-ridden world, showing the process in-between of transformation and decay.
Part 2: Brave New World
Tumblr media
The second act starts as Rick steps out of the hospital and faces the current reality of his world, and it’s an ugly one. Rick sees dead bodies everywhere and discarded military gear. Something dreadful happened when he was in a coma. The world undergone a change so great in his sleep that it’s impressive that Rick didn’t drown in total madness when he first saw what’s left of society. Most of act two is about Rick having to come to terms with his new life: one entirely ruled by survival. Now, another interesting element that is also a symbol in my interpretation: the bicycle girl. The bicycle girl (which is the zombie without its lower body) is the first walker Rick encounters. He is scared by her and runs away from her with the bicycle that was there next to him. The bicycle girl is nothing more than the remains of the past life of Rick and the world before. It is dead and alive at the same time – like the walkers – but in a pitiful state. It can’t be on its feet and is always trying to grasp and touch Rick, but, ultimately, it can’t. Rick fears it, and because of that he runs.
Most of the second act is focused on the interactions of Rick and Morgan Jones. Morgan, after encountering Rick and saving him from a nearby walker, takes him inside his house, but fearing that the gunshot wound was in fact a walker bite, Morgan rightly tied Rick to a bed and waited for him to wake up to ask some questions. Now, it’s incredible how this episode never misses a beat and is not made of only three truly great scenes, but all of the scenes are great. The whole dinamic of Morgan explaining to Rick what happened and what it takes to live in this new world felt so natural that no critic could say it was bad exposition. It was exposition done right, revealing more about Morgan’s character, showing him as a good man and a father to his son Duane. It’s easy to understand why Rick and Morgan liked each other one day after meeting for the first time. The chemistry is real, and it’s unbelievable how seasons later, when they see each other again, the chemistry is still there.
Andrew Lincoln and Lennie James are spectacular actors. Their acting in this episode is astonishingly extraordinary. I’m pissed that they didn’t won any awards for it, they certainly deserve it. Andrew’s acting was great all way through, but when he first arrives at his house and cries for Lori and Carl you could feel the man’s pain and suffering. One moment that is perfect and maybe one of the bests of all TV history is when Rick is having an existential crisis. “Is this real? Am I here?”, asks Rick while facing the ground. It’s such a powerful reaction to the absurdity he is experiencing and it feels so damn real because Andrew Lincoln can cry like a pro and give the gaze of a man that is lost. Rick is lost. And this scene can provide such a powerful punch to the audience that you can’t help but be already invested in Rick’s journey. He just wants his family, so he can put some sense in a mad world. Without them, Rick is lost.
Tumblr media
The second act makes us empathize more with Rick and Morgan. They both have admirable goals. They just want to live and provide for their family. Their bond is developed exceptionally in their final moments together – before Rick travels to Atlanta – that you are left caring for them and wanting a reunion. The final scenes of act two were made to make you feel emotional without doubt, and I’m sure that it worked on some people and made them fall in love with the series instantly. It’s when Rick kills bicycle girl and Morgan fails to kill his dead wife, now a walker. The soundtrack by Bear McCreary is phenomenal and adds so much dramatic and emotional weight to the scenes, and it fits perfectly with the tone of pretty much the core of the series. It’s a haunting song, a sorrowful one full of melancholy, but it also has a spark of hope in it. It makes a statement: everything is sadly collapsing around us, but there’s still hope of rebuilding. The Mercy of the Living is TWD summarized in an orchestral piece, and I feel like crying every time I listen to it, just like the piece Alive Inside of Telltale’s game, that also does a masterful job in creating a sad but hopeful atmosphere in its melody. The bicycle girl – which is the past Rick and the world before – must be killed by Rick if he wants to continue his voyage, to which destination is his family. Rick is teary and heartbroken in killing bicycle girl because now he has to fully embrace a life ruled by survival. “I’m sorry this happened to you.” is Rick final message and requiem to the world and consequently to his past self – a quiet Rick that didn’t want to discuss with Lori in front of Carl –, both who had problems that they couldn’t resolve before the tragedy that hit them.
Part 3: The Beginning
Tumblr media
The third and last act are in fact the beginning. We saw a peak of a world before the zombie apocalypse and Rick waking up in this desolated society in the first two acts, but the third one is to introduce and set up what the series is about and what will do to its end: show the characters in a battle for survival, and ultimately in a quest for the return of humanity and civilization. Both are depicted in the scenes where Rick is trying to save himself from a horde of walkers that attack him and his horse, and the other with Shane’s group listening and trying to talk in the radio with a mysterious survivor (Rick himself) who warns about his coming into the city, showing their efforts to help fellow survivors who might enter Atlanta without knowing its dangers, thus demonstrating that they are still human after all.
The episode show us a little about the relationship of Shane and Lori, as well as a glimpse to their group. It wasn’t exactly necessary, but it doesn’t hurt in any way the season’s progress and development. The third act is best represented by Rick entering Atlanta and having to escape a humongous horde of walkers. Rick manages to survive by hiding in the tank that was parked in a street. The scene also show us that zombies had some intelligence  – they crawl and try to open things – and some of them look cartoonishly green or grey, instead of the realistic putrid rotting flesh look the marvelous make-up by Greg Nicotero can provide. And both of these things are common to the iconography Romero made for the zombies. It’s very clear that Darabont takes inspirations from his movies and respect their legacy by expanding it to a new range of people and an audience that is maybe not that familiar with Romero – I wasn’t when I first watched TWD and when I saw Romero’s movies I was impressed by how it influenced the series.
Days Gone Bye is a masterclass of how a pilot should be made. This quintessential pilot introduces a storyline that will be finished within the episode. while also setting up what’s coming next in the season, laying ground for all the future episodes in the best way possible. It introduces a protagonist that proves that he can sustain a show on his own – he is a caring father, loving husband, a good man and a kind of Western hero, we see him riding in his horse towards the imminent danger full of guns and determination searching only for his family. The Walking Dead may not be recognized as a TV series that revolutionized the medium, but it revolutionized its genre, and overall it is a great series that deserves recognition, and so does Days Gone Bye. It is simply the perfect pilot.

1 & 14 & 23 for the unique writing asks gvdhbsjaklj
Hello, Code! Thank you so much for the asks!
1. What themes would you like to write about that you feel don’t get explored very often?
Oooh. I thought long and hard about this one. I don’t know if this is a theme or just a trope, or what have you, but I think there needs to be more stories where the character doesn’t get the object of their affections, and that’s okay. I think there needs to be more happy stories of unrequited love, and more stories where it’s obviously acceptable for one of the partners in the main relationship to not be ready for a committed relationship by the end of the story. And that’s difficult to pull off realistically, so I get why it’s not done often enough, but I would love to explore something like that (and I kinda have but not successfully). I also think there needs to be more stories where romance isn’t involved at all. As in, no forced romantic subplots, no flatter-than-roadkill and interesting-as-drying-paint characters inserted just for the main character to kiss at the end of the book.
Now, some may call me a hypocrite here because basically all I write is romance, but I don’t think that the two concepts of me liking to write romance and me wanting to see stories where it isn’t the main focus, or maybe it’s bittersweet and/or skewed more towards the self-improvement angle are mutually exclusive. And I would like to write a story like that one day, and more successfully than my last go of it, at least. Of course I would have to be writing super fluffy, romantic fanfiction on the side to cope, haha, but I do want to represent the parts of life that aren’t tied to romance in my work as well, because love in a romantic sense isn’t all there is, and yet it’s such a be-all and end-all in storytelling. Love is wonderful, but there are far too many kinds of love that aren’t celebrated nearly enough, especially platonic love—and, even more specifically, platonic love between single men and women. I would also like to see how I can romanticize not being in love, and how that’s perfectly alright for the personal journey the character’s on.
‘La La Land’ really blew my mind with this concept, where the story goes in a direction where the main couple is arguably happier and more fulfilled without each other. You can also make the argument that they aren’t as happy as they could’ve been, but there’s a lovely ambiguity there because life isn’t cut and dry. Maybe they would’ve been happier with each other, and maybe they wouldn’t have been. There are some solid facts here, though: they made each other better when they were together, and because they knew each other, they wound up achieving their dreams. That’s certainly the happiest break-up story I’ve ever seen, even if it isn’t well and truly happy and more on the bittersweet side of things.
Of course I have other ideas, but this is just a set of very general concepts that I’d like to see more of and write about one day.
14. If you’ve written more than one story, what traits do your protagonists tend to share?
I think they’ve all got a fire in them. They’ve all got this sort of “fuck it” mentality where they’re not content with their lives and are desperate to change it through whatever means necessary. And they all do it for different reasons, but some of them have commonalities. Drag! Virgil and Inexact! Sock do it to outrun their pasts, for example. Inexact! Jonathan and Drag! Virgil do it to rebel against themselves and their environments.
They’re also gay and struggle with mental health dnfacdnkjdsfs
23. Do you prefer reading series or standalone novels and does that reflect on how you write?
Standalones, standalones, standalones. I can’t with series, I never finish them. Unless it’s fic. Then we’ll talk. But like, PUBLISHED books? No. I can’t, I just can’t for some reason. I can’t practice series/book monogamy. I think I’ve finished a series maybe once outside of fic. And yeah, I think it does affect how I write because I write standalone novels. I guess if I wrote series it would be a different story, haha.
Thank you so much for these questions, Code! Very thought-provoking!

Comic Plans
Current Projects:
Prismtale (Mondays): An Undertale AU involving NPCs and multiverse travelling. Multi-chapter comic and ongoing.
Mistbreak (Tuesdays): A Steven Universe AU with about 5 pages left of the comic. Then it will become an ask/drabble/design blog.
Flicker of a Neon Soul (Wednesdays): An Undertale AU where monsters have colored soul traits and humans have white soul traits. 10+ chaptered comic with many plans and plot.
Taffy and Steven (Thursdays): A Steven Universe where Steven and his gem are split into different people and Taffy is a wholesome boyo. One page left of the comic, then will become an ask/edit blog with occasional comics.
Future Fandom Projects:
Pokemon Nuzlocke Comics: Multiple regions and an overarching plot. I need to finish playing and writing the first arc before starting the comic. (long term)
Who I Am: A Pokemon comic where James from Team Rocket is a were-pokemon. I need to rewrite it first. About 7 to 8 chapters. (medium length)
Other Undertale AUs: Certain AUs will be revealed in Prismtale and turn into side blogs, and others will be one time comics. (varies)
Future Original Projects:
(One of these I want to make extremely interactive. Like the audience makes choices for the characters.)
Phantulfurs: A comic about teens with powers to see creatures no one else can. I’ve rewritten the first chapter multiple times, but I need to really write it out before starting the comic. About ten arcs. (long term)
Skryculars: A sequel to the above story. (medium length)
The Journeyers: A multi-book series with my cousin. About ten books. Involves animals, powers, and romance. Won’t give information beyond that. (long term)
Unnamed Animated Series: Still need to design the two main characters, but they’ll travel through many worlds from my dream world. (long term youtube series)
Unnamed Wings Story: Decided many many characters for a high school story with wings. Lots of diversity and LGBTQ. Problem is I don’t like writing high school stories and have no plot. ;^; (medium? short?)
Unnamed Long Term Comic: A story about a space girl with wings, a nonbinary person that can shapeshift and communicate with animals, twins with water and plant powers, and an angsty wholesome skeleton bean. No plot yet. (long term)
Short Term (below the cut, any catch your interest?)
(keep in mind many of these I wrote the descriptions for years ago or based off of dreams.)
“Orphan Dog” and “Martha’s Pack” An orphan finds out she can talk to dogs and realizes they are the key to finding her missing parents. (Wrote when I was 8, rewrote partially when I was 13. So very cheezy. Would be even cheezier if I didn’t rewrite it, but still drew quality serious art XD.)
“The Agency” A girl named Jill has secrets. Major secrets. For one, she can turn into any animal at will including extinct, Fantasy, or hybrids. Don’t forget that she can also turn invisible and do telepathy. (Not to mention she runs an entire secret animal spy community…) When her best friend and spy ally, Izabella the opossum, goes missing, she must find what it means to be a true friend and showing that it’s what’s inside that counts. (Actually liked this one too. Even if it’s also cheezy.)
1. “Moos” A boy is adopted by cows and is granted the power to understand animals and turn into a cow.
2. “Moos: Vile Meat” Hoover is back and he must defeat the evil Haystack, a human entrapping calfs in little domes for eternity.
3. “Moos: Cold Cuts” Hoover finds a new ally, one who creates...snow?
4. “Moos: Wakey Wakey Eggs and Bakey” Haystack is back and Hoover and his friends must defeat him before he turns all pigs into stone. (Cheezy series?)
“Extraordinaries” Emma, her friend, Millie, her brother, Clark, and her dog, Charlie, have to travel to a faraway land to save Emma’s mother, who has been poisoned. Along the way Emma and the team must find how to deal with their newfound powers of Imagination. (This one was also pretty good! A story from Nanowrimo a few years ago.)
“The Hummingbird Did It” A hummingbird turns a lazy boy into a dog. The boy must venture across country to find the cure. (Was kinda boring and just me having fun with google maps lol.)
“Sunshine and Rainbows” A girl is taken to another world by rainbow dust and must find her way back to Earth. (Can’t actually remember this one.)
“Nature’s Lifeforce” A boy and girl are given the power to turn into any woodland creature and talk to trees. (Also can’t remember, but sounds cool.)
“Ravens” A girl named Hannah, a boy named Billy, a boy named Cameron, a girl named Lyla, and a boy named Clark, among other students, have their wishes come true. This creates a problem as Cameron becomes a dog, Lyla becomes a cat and Hannah and Billy become ravens. They fix the problem for everyone except Hannah and Billy, but embark on an adventure to find the scientist who can help them. (Based on a dream, I think.)
“Dragon wings” Hiccup and Toothless accidentally sit down someplace weird. They switch bodies and Toothless claims to have heard someone press a button. (ASDFGHJKL WHAT?! HTTYD short story)
“Melody Dreambubble” A weird new pony arrives in Ponyville. Twilight is curious to find that she has no Cutie Mark, was raised by wolves, and bears mysterious powers. (My Little Pony, kinda self insert, short story)
“Eyes of Gold/The Tower” A Fan Fiction based on The Ever Afters series and two stories rolled into one. Rory finds that her two best friends have been poisoned by a new dragon species/As Rory is about to enter a tower to save Chase a random girl shows up out of nowhere and has a weird habit of annoying Adelaide. (Was my first ever self insert? And based on a book series unlike the rest? Cool! Oh I even wrote ten whole pages! Neat. Featuring a girl chasing a dragon with a bedpan!)
“Roadkill” A man purposely runs over a deer on a freeway. The deer’s best friend curses the man, later to regret it because he has to undo the curse himself. (Lol, this was interesting.)
“Melissa and Steven Started a Food Fight” A completely random book that takes the characters through an adventure of explosions, unicorns, and talking squirrels. (Used a random prompt generator. Very random. And funny.)
“Before it’s Gone” A snooty teen crashes in her car and finds a surprise when she wakes up. (Oh yeah, another old story. She turned into a dog and none of the other dogs believed her.)
“The Unicorn Killer” A short story about poachers and Julia. (Yep. Short story.)
1. “Feathers of Gold” A logical young bird griffin, Gabriel, wants to find a way to stop to war between bird and lion in his land, Genetica.
2. “Scales of Emerald” A shy young dragon, Emmie, tries to keep her land, Reptilia, from destruction.
3. “Hair of Crystal” A brave young unicorn, Crystal, tries to find a way to join together the leaders of the land of Equinsta.
4. “Flames of Ruby” A vain young phoenix, Flaxter, tries to capture the eyes of girls. Taken place in the land of Flamia.
5. “Gems Unite” Gabriel, Emmie, Crystal, and Flaxter find out they are The Gems, the only ones who can save their world, Animagicia, from the beings, called Humurns, that are trying to destroy it. They must come together and find who they truly are. (Might have fun with this series. I’ve always loved mythical animals.)
“The Distance from Sam” An 8 year-old St. Bernard named Barry, a 3 year-old Golden Retriever named Mick, and a 1 year-old Sheltie named Sandy set off to return to their owner Sam, after being kidnapped and sent across country. (Kinda like Homeward Bound. Came in mind when I saw these three dogs alone by a street, no humans around.)
“The Skilled” Andy and Ashley(both fifteen) and their eight year-old siblings, twins Alex and Alexa, gain powers from the sewers. All: understand animals and fly, Andy: talk to toys, Ashley: speak to plants, Alex and Alexa: psychic powers. “I used to think my toys would come to life when I was gone. I guess I was right.”-Andy. Based on a dream. (Too many “A” names, oof. Also, toy Story much?)
“The Moon’s Eye” A teenage girl named April gets trapped under a snow drift and wakes up to be a wolf. A nearby wolf pack needs her aid and calls her The Mooneye, a changeling. (Cool. Cool.)
“Unusual Forces of Omnipotence” A woman and her horse are supposedly crushed by a U.F.O. When Tanaya wakes up she finds out she has super strong senses and can run as fast as her horse. Pluto the alien knows he’s going to be in trouble if his planet finds out he crash landed and accidentally gave a human the powers of her horse. He tries to fix it. Told from Tanaya, Sunray (the horse), and Pluto’s point of view. Based on a dream. (Sounds interesting! Title came from before I knew UFO was an acronym lol.)
“The Lawn” Unknown to humans, a yard full of statues come alive at night. There is an elk, two bears, four buffalo, a wolf, an eagle, three horses, a small boy, a moose, a bighorn sheep, and a rabbit. (Based on a real lawn I’d see on the way to school.)
“Dragon Eyes” Max has an ordinary life, until his family, him, and his three friends, Alice, Peter, and Samuel, are transported to another world. His parents are then kidnapped and they have to fight against an evil Mother Nature. Based on a dream. (Interesting. The dream was freaky.)
“Sweet Treat” Emily’s dad works at a candy factory, and one day she visits him and realizes his work is not all it seems… Based on a dream. (What? I don’t remember what was different about his work???)
“The Flight of the Supernatural” Randy thinks he is mostly a normal kid. Sure, he and his dad live inside a mountain, and sure, some flying species of human killed his mother, that doesn’t mean he can’t live normal life homeschooling and watching TV. But unfortunately, Randy’s life turns around when he finds out he can fly. Is his father telling the truth? Did his own species kill his mother? Based on a dream. (Actually REALLY loved this story.)
“Whispering Willow” A girl named Willow helps 20 wolf cubs escape a pet store and then is recruited by a zoo. Pretty soon all of the animals know her as Whisper. Based on a dream. (Cool. another animal whisperer.)
“The Invasion of Our Minds” Little black aliens invade Earth and only one person can stop them: Julia. Based on a dream. (Oh RIGHT! Yeah I remember that.)
“The Marble Island(Possibly a short story?)” Julia goes on a trip to a new marble island only to find the owner turns people into stone figurines. Based on a dream. (Links to the previous story, I think.)
“Have some candy!” Violet, an expert on strange occurrences, needs to help a group of people who mysteriously turned into animals after attempting to grab candy bars from a bin in a local store. Based on a dream. (More animal transformation.)
“The Guide to Mythical Creatures I Made Up” A guide to everything from the Mystic Melody to the Gollan. (I don’t remember either of their designs! :P )
“Trying to Get Back to Mom” Michael and Annabelle meet new friends, while they frantically try to reunite with their mother. (Don’t remember.)
“Surprise of the Future” Pearl travels to the future and has to fight her now-evil brother in his stone mansion. (Not Pearl from SU. Based on a dream.)
“All for You” A man has to overcome many obstacles, such as mermaids, yellow smoke wolves, and magic maps, to save the world and his girl. (Oh yeah, this was a cool one. Based on a song, but I can’t remember which one.)
“The Stranger at the Door” Keith and Amber have lived with their grandmother for many years, but now they live alone and nobody knows. Then a strange girl arrives at the door. She claims they will have to leave town within 2 hours or risk being stuck in a quarantine zone. There will be traffic jams and other hindrances, so it's best to leave right now without taking anything with you. Unsure about everything, including this strange girl, the teenage boy disagrees to the proposal, if all this turns out to be true, this choice will seem foolish. His younger sister does agree. But what if this strange girl can't be trusted. Or what if all this is an elaborate trap. How could an ordinary teenage girl and boy end up in a situation like this. Time to find out. (Oh, a quarantine story? How long ago was this? 2017 I think.)
“The Beginning of the Hybrid Brothers” A backstory that shines a light on how Ralph the Rat-Man and Dr. Discord came to be evil. (YES, MY TWO VILLAINS NO ONE KNOWS ABOUT BUT ARE STILL DEAR TO MY HEART HNNNNNNNG.)
“Unnamed but same as the blank” A girl named, _____, lives in a family of nine. She and her mother are the only ones who aren’t “Morhumals”, or people who can turn into one animal. After the twins mess-up and send a “Morhumals” hunter after them, it is up to ___ and her sister, ____ to rescue them.
“Song of the Siren” ____ is back after her fourteenth birthday. She finally has received her animal and must follow her family to the mythed Siren hideout.

episode origins p1
i was watching moriah earlier today and was wondering what the significance of the name moriah was, so i searched it up. i’ll explain it here in this. i wanted to learn which episodes have titles derived from pop culture, literature, etc. so i put together this list. it’s not complete, feel free to reblog with more!
why did i waste hours on my life on this, you ask? i don’t know.

June 5th 1993 ~ Rochester, NY
“Okay, don’t get me wrong, I love you and all... but, Michelle, you can’t read maps for shit,” the man joked while he drove down the quiet road in the dark, his girlfriend sitting in the passenger seat, map resting on her lap.
“Hey!” She exclaimed, playfully hitting his arm. “Well, I am 90% sure that the town is coming up soon,” she said when she turned her attention back to the map.
“So... that means we’re nowhere near the town,” he said, earning a glare from Michelle.
“Hey, David?” She asked and he hummed in response. “Shut up.” He laughed. After a few more miles and a few more jokes from David, the couple still hadn’t come across the town they were seeking.
As they were driving, the headlights caught the outline of a shape, a lump on the side of the road, too large to be a rabbit and too small to be a deer.
“Hey, what is that?” Michelle asked, as she too caught sight of the silhouette.
David averted his eyes for a second. “Probably one of Jason Voorhees’ many victims,” he chuckled.
“No, seriously.”
“Alright, it’s probably roadkill.”
As they drove closer, the shape became clearer, and revealed itself as a person, unconscious on the side of the road. “Holy shit. David, stop the car,” Michelle mumbled.
“What?”
“Stop the car! It’s a fucking person,” she said louder than before.
David chanced a quick look back to the shape to find that his girlfriend was right. “Oh, shit,” he said as he slammed on the brakes, the car skidding to a halt just beyond the body.
The two jumped out of the car as soon as it stopped, rushing to the body, only to find it wasn’t an adult. It was a child. They would’ve said that she was no older than ten at least, but the bruises and dried blood that littered her body made it near impossible to identify her age.
Her long, dark brown and matted hair draped over her shoulders, covered with a vintage gown, stained in red. They looked down to see that her feet were bloody and cut up; she must have been running.
“David, that’s–oh my God, David, that’s a fucking child!” Michelle exclaimed as she started to hyperventilate, for understandable reasons.
“Whoa, okay, just calm down. Take a deep breath,” he said, sucking in the cool night air through his nose and letting it out through his lips, getting Michelle to do the same. “Better?” She nodded, swallowing. “Good. Okay, I’m gonna check her pulse, and then we’re gonna take her to the hospital, alright?”
She nodded again before going to the trunk to fish out a blanket for the mystery girl. Luckily, she found one and brought it back to the girl, wrapping it around her delicately.
“She’s got a pulse, but it’s faint. We need to get her to the hospital. Now,” David concluded. They both decided that it would be better if David was in charge of the map instead of Michelle. They cautiously placed the girl in the backseat of their car, and drove to the nearest hospital.
About fifteen minutes later, they pulled up to the A&E entrance. David picked up the girl while Michelle ran in to give the nurses a summary on what happened. David came not long after, carrying her limp figure into the reception and placed her on a gurney that had already been prepared. The couple anxiously watched as she was whisked away.
“Are you the couple who brought the Jane Doe in?” A doctor asked the two after an hour or so.
They glanced at each other quickly before standing up, holding each others hands. “Yes–yes that’s us,” Michelle replied.
“Well, the good news is she’s stable,” she started, David and Michelle letting a breath of relief escape both of their lips. “She has suffered quite some damage; a few broken bones, some nasty cuts and bruises, blood loss and some internal bleeding. But in time, she’ll be okay.”
David nodded. “What’s the bad news?” He asked. “You said that’s the good news, so what’s the bad?”
“There is no record of her. No birth certificate. No record of any family. Nothing. As far as the world is concerned... this girl doesn’t even exist.”
“So, what does that mean for her? What happens next?” Michelle questioned, furrowing her brows.
“Well, we’ll wait for her to wake up and see if she knows who and where her parents are. If not then she’ll be put in the system, see if anyone’s looking for a foster,” she said.
“Thanks, doc,” David said, the doctor nodded and left. “You hear that? Kids got no parents.”
“Yeah, poor girl.” Michelle looked down at the ground and shook her head slightly.
“Well, what if... y’know, what if we take her in?” David offered, shrugging his shoulders.
She looked into his eyes briefly, before looking away. “David... It’s–it’s not that I don’t want kids, it’s just... look, I just don’t think I’m ready for kids yet.” David nodded and Michelle took his hands in hers. “And besides, we’re not even twenty-five yet, we’ve got plenty of time, right?”
“Right.” He smiled and lifted her hand to his mouth, giving it a quick kiss.
“Do you think we should stay?” Michelle offered. “Y’know, make sure she’s alright?”
“Yeah, I think that’s the right thing to do.”
With that, the couple sat back down and waited in the hospital seats, engaging in conversation. They were there for about a half hour when a hoard of doctors and nurses filed into the girl’s room. The couple looked at each other briefly before standing from their seats.
“Hey, what’s going on? Is she okay?” David asked one of the doctors who emerged from the room.
“She’s awake. Disoriented and confused, but she’s okay,” the doctor said, smiling at the two. “Are you two the girl’s family?”
“Uh, no. We’re the people who brought her in. We just wanted to make sure she was okay,” Michelle informed and the doctor nodded.
“Well, good thing you found her when you did. I don’t think she would’ve lasted much longer.” The doctor gave a thankful smile to the couple before he walked away.
Neither of them know why but they still stayed. In a way, they felt as though they had some obligation to stay, like she was their responsibility. They were the ones who found her after all.
“Excuse me.” They looked to see a police officer with a notepad standing patiently in front of them. “Hi, I’m Officer Jeffords. Are you the couple who found the girl?”
“Yeah, that’s us,” David replied.
“Do you mind if I ask you a few questions?”
“Ask away, officer,” Michelle smiled. He took a seat next to them and flipped open his notebook.
---
“Hi there. I’m Officer Owen Kent. I’m going to ask you a few questions about what happened. Is that okay?” He asked, taking a seat in the chair next to the hospital bed. The girl didn’t say anything, but nodded in confirmation.
“Okay. Can you tell me your name, sweetie?” Once again, she said nothing, but this time she shook her head. She furrowed her brows and stared at her hands, which were folded in her lap. “Do you not remember?” He asked gently and she shook her head again.
“That’s okay. The doctors said you might be suffering from some amnesia,” he said and the girl looked at him, confused. “Right, uh, amnesia is just a fancy pancy word for memory loss. People normally get it when they hit their head real hard.”
She nodded again. “Do the memories ever come back?” She asked.
“Sometimes, yeah. It just depends on how hard you hit your head,” he said, tilting his head to the side to look at her. “What’s the last thing you remember, sweetie?”
She shrugged. “I don’t know. Waking up in here?” Owen frowned and nodded slowly.
“So you don’t remember where you were before? Or anything about your parents?” She shook her head again. “Okay. That’s fine,” he said, noticing how her eyes were drooping shut. “Alright, I’m gonna let you get some rest. I’ll be outside if you need anything.”
He left the room and joined up with his colleague who was talking to Michelle and David.
“Hey. Does the girl remember anything?” Jeffords asked.
“No. Kid doesn’t even remember her name,” Owen said and looked down to the ground.
“Damn. What about what happened, or any family of hers?”
“Nada. But whatever happened must have been real bad; she said that the last thing she remembered was waking up here.”
Jeffords shook his head slightly. “Well, the couple who brought her in told me where they found her. There’s an old cabin not too far from there.”
“First lead. We gonna check it out?”
“You read my mind.” Jeffords smirked before walking away, Owen following not long after.
“Do you think we should go and see her?” Michelle asked once the officers had left.
“Do you want to?” David retorted.
“I don’t know...” She said.
“We can go if you want to. I mean, we stayed to make sure she’s okay and we know she’s okay.”
She nodded her head. “Yeah, okay. We still gotta find that hotel.”
“Yeah, but this time? I’m taking the map,” he said, laughing. Michelle hit his arm playfully, chuckling a bit herself.
---
The Next Day
“Good morning,” the nurse said cheerily as she stepped into the room. “And how we feeling today?”
“Good. Better,” the girl said quietly, smiling at the nurse. She still had evidence of struggle, but the cuts were healing and the bruises had started to turn a dark purple, a sign of healing.
“Do you remember anything yet?” She asked as she checked the monitors and her vitals. She shook her head and received a reassuring smile. “Not even your name?”
“No,” the girl said sadly, looking down to her lap.
“How about we find you one?” the nurse suggested optimistically. The girl snapped her head up to look at the smiling woman.
“Really?”
“Yeah, really.” She smiled, as did the child. “Yeah, we can look on a website with a list of names,” she said. “I just gotta go and do something, but I’ll be back in a jiffy and then we can have a look, okay?”
“Okay,” she nodded. “Thank you.” The nurse smiled and left the room, coming back not long after, just as she promised.
They looked for about twenty minutes before the girl found a name that tickled her fancy. “That one,” she stated, pointing at the screen of the laptop.
“Danielle,” the nurse said, as if getting used to the name. “It suits you.” She nodded, smiling as the girl did – as Danielle did.
---
“Oh, bed sweet bed.” David sighed as he flopped on the hotel bed. “I am exhausted,” he said, letting his eyes fall shut.
“I know the feeling,” Michelle replied, falling next to her boyfriend. They dropped their bags on the couch when they came in, not bothering to unpack or change out of their clothes.
They were just about to drift into a slumber when a knock sounded at the door, startling both of them. David sighed and got up when Michelle made no move to do so herself.
He opened the door to find a tall, skinny man with scraggy black hair and short stubble, decorating his face. “Can I help you?”
“Where is she? The girl,” he asked, clearly meaning business. His voice was deep and southern, not suiting his scrawny appearance.
“Uh, wha–” David started but stopped himself when he saw the mystery man pull a blade from his jacket. David held his hands up in surrender and backed further into the room as the man stepped forward. “Whoa, whoa, whoa. Okay. There’s no need for that, buddy.”
“You’re right, there is no need for this,” he said, flipping the knife in his hand, a smirk tugging at his thin lips. “I could kill you both without breaking a sweat. But where’s the fun in that, eh?”
“Okay, just... let Michelle go. She doesn’t need to be a part of this. I can give you what you want, just please... let her go,” David pleaded. Michelle crept into the room just then, and her eyes widened at the situation as David held his arm out, stopping her from going any further.
He chuckled and put his knife in his pocket, David and Michelle sighing in relief. “What, and let her go running to the authorities while I miss out on the fun of two people? Now why would I want to do that? And even if you could give me what I want... I don’t think you will.”
They both took a step back as his eyes turned a purple of sorts; kind of like a galaxy. His whites, his pupils, there wasn’t a part of his eyes that wasn’t that entrancing colour.
They would’ve taken another step back if they didn’t freeze when his arms were engulfed in a flame. Before either of them could process anything, it was them who were engulfed in heat, screaming until they could no more.
The man smirked as he walked out of the room, leaving the two corpses – or what was left of them – behind. He continued down the long hallway, stepping over the burnt bodies that littered them as he did.
There were four more corpses in the lobby. A small hotel full of death on his hands. But he didn’t care, he had more pressing matters at hand. He casually walked out of the building.
He closed his eyes and looked up to the sky, letting the cool night breeze wash over his face. “I will find you,” he said. “No matter how long it takes... I will find you.”

Series: Detroit: Become Human Rating: T Genre: Adventure/Drama/Action (eventual romance) Summary: Before Connor, first of the RK800 line, began his fateful investigation of deviant androids, there was Jacob, the RK700 that preceded him. He failed in his assignment, but he did not go quiet into the night when he was decommissioned. Rather, he became the thing he had once hunted and disappeared into the depths of New York City in search of a new life.
( < Back to part 1 / < Back to part 4 )
Part 5 - Bullets
The bridge leading to Detroit proper stretched out before him, though was becoming shorter by the second as 700 reassessed his self-assigned mission to escape CyberLife.
Technically speaking, he had managed that, though the android was quickly coming to realize that while minutiae had served him well as a machine without free will, the word ‘technically’ was no longer his friend as a fully sentient android on the run.
Time, he thought, to add a few bullet points.
Bullet point one: Physically escape CyberLife tower (check)
This was added below the much larger and more amorphous mission of ‘Escape CyberLife’, which was becoming more complicated by the moment.
Bullet point two: Ditch the stolen car, as it likely had a tracker, and beyond that, was easily recognizable thanks to its flashy coloring and uncommon model.
Bullet point three: Find a disguise that would allow him to blend in with the human population. Clothes would have to be acquired, and his LED would need to be removed.
Here, the fact that he was a model of android unavailable on the open market would serve to help him hide. Yes, being the only RK700 model would make it easy for any direct agents of CyberLife to recognize him, but it also meant that the company couldn’t simply send out a warrant for any unattached androids of a specific model. If they tried to do as much using his image now, not only would it potentially affect their new RK800’s ability to function without interference in public once he was activated, but it would also attract media attention.
The cold and prying eye of the independent press was the dread of businesses everywhere, even ones as big as CyberLife. If journalists caught a whiff of internal strife within the confines of one of America’s biggest companies, they’d be on it like buzzards on yesterday’s roadkill. CyberLife had managed to repress the worst of the news about the deviancy problem thus far, but that wouldn’t last long once the journalistic community got involved.
Bullet point four: Leave Detroit. Where he would flee to was an unknown, though there were many options. Between 700 and that point, however, were a lot of variables even his impressive analytical program couldn’t account for, so he put a metaphorical pin in it for the time being.
Besides, he’d just reached the end of the bridge and he could see six cop cars rocketing straight towards him down the main thoroughfare. This development prompted him to make an addendum to his plan:
Bullet point one (a): Lose the cops.
700 made a sharp turn down a narrow side street and sped through a red light without stopping. One of his regulatory subsystems tried to object to this act, dangerous as it was, but the android simply shoved it down and focused on driving. Every light he came up against was red, and it occurred to him that the police must have had something to do with it, but he didn’t let it slow him down.
An automated semi-truck crossed an intersection in front of him and rather than slam on the brakes, 700 made a hard left to match its direction, making hard use of the accelerator to pull him out of the turn and put him ahead of the other vehicle. He didn’t make it far before more police, likely a second squadron called in for backup considering that the number of cars in the android’s wake hadn’t lessened by much.
Realizing that they must be making use of the CCTV cameras so common on the streets of downtown Detroit to track his movements, 700 changed tactics and jumped onto the first freeway that would take him out into the suburban sprawl where cameras were significantly less common. No doubt the police would soon have the information needed to track the car itself, but it would buy him at least a few minutes, and a few minutes was all he needed to disappear.
On the other hand, he might be able to earn himself more time if he could find some way to fool the tracking system in the vehicle he’d hi-jacked…
The freeway was sparsely populated, and the sports car possessed an engine that could, in human parlance, go like a bat out of hell. 700 opened up the throttle and watched for a moment as the flashing lights of the police quickly dropped away into the distance before turning half his attention to the center console.
He placed one hand on it and accessed its systems in hopes of deactivating the tracker, but was disappointed to find that it was, in a rather clever design move for just such an occasion, an independent unit not directly linked to the rest of the system. Still, it didn’t take the android more than a moment to suss out that said unit was embedded behind the central console; a difficult to reach spot in a hurry.
If you were a human, anyways.
After taking a second to check that the road ahead was still clear, 700 grabbed the lip of the screen with the fingers of one hand and pulled. There was a creak, then a groan, and the electronics all came spilling out into the front seat, a bundle of messy wires and other sundry bits that the android shoved into a heap on the floor of the passenger seat. Left hand still on the steering wheel, 700 reached into the new hole in the dash with his right and rooted around until he found what he was looking for, then took hold of the small, square box and tore that out too.
The wires that dangled from the tracker sparked a few times as the android lowered the driver side window and bided his time until a truck driving in the opposite direction approached. 700 performed a quick trajectory calculation, then threw the black box just in time for it to land in the bed of the oncoming vehicle.
He doubted it’d distract the police for long, but at the very least they wouldn’t be able to directly track his car anymore.
After picking an exit at random, Seven decelerated as he exited so as not to attract attention from the few passerby that lingered on the streets. He turned off into a neighborhood and quick use of his internal gps directed him to a small, isolated park where he finally brought the car to a halt in the shadows of a tree.
He cut the engine and sat back for a moment and considered his options once more before making another addendum to his mission.
Bullet point 2 (a): Search car for potential resources.
Well, the assault rifle would have to stay, useful though it had proven in his escape. There was no easy way to carry it without attracting immediate attention, which ran immediately counter to the rest of his mission statement, so 700 abandoned it in the passenger seat without a second look.
The android got out of the car and went to the passenger door to check the back seat for anything of potential use and found a backpack, a quick perusal of which provided a set of size small women’s gym clothes and a pair of size six running shoes. These were immediately discarded, but there were a few other things within that he decided to keep.
As 700 went around to the trunk, he made a mental list of his newly acquired assets:
- 1 backpack (black) - 1 nail care kit (blue) containing:
1 fingernail clippers
1 nail file
1 set of miniature scissors
1 set of tweezers
- $63.57 USD (2 twenties, 1 ten, 2 fives, 3 ones, 2 quarters, and 2 pennies) - 1 24 oz. reusable plastic water bottle (purple) containing:
17 fl oz. of water
The android’s search of the trunk added further to his resources, all of which he put into the black backpack.
- 1 15” pry bar (gray) - 3 24 oz. bottles of thirium (unopened) - 1 plastic shopping bag (previously containing 3 bottles of thirium)
Satisfied, 700 took a moment to consider the vehicle, double checking for anything he might have missed with a quick scan, then proceeded to strip out of his cyberlife issued gray jacket before stuffing it under the driver’s seat out of sight. That done, he removed his black, patterned tie and folded it neatly and put it away in his stolen backpack which he then shouldered and started off into the night without a backwards glance.
( On to part 6 > )

We interrupt your regularly scheduled news programming to bring you this wonderful piece of trivia about kangaroo genitals. t’s not the size that matters, they say, but it is hard not to be impressed by the scale of the barnacle penis. Indeed, biologists since Charles Darwin have marvelled at its amazing member, which measures in some species up to a whopping nine times the length of its body. Why is the barnacle thus endowed? As adults, these marine crustaceans cement themselves to rocks in intertidal zones, hulls of boats and the bodies of turtles and whales. This lifestyle makes sexual reproduction somewhat challenging. Although barnacles are hermaphrodites, carrying both male and female genitalia, they rarely have sex with themselves. Instead, they use their extraordinarily long penises to reach out and find a mate within striking distance. Barnacle penises resemble muscular telescopes. They have a series of folded rings that allow it to stretch to great lengths. It is also covered with chemical-sensing bristles that “sniff out” receptive mates. Outside of the breeding season, the penis shrinks, and in some species falls off completely, only to be regrown the next time it’s needed. To the untrained eye it is hard to pick the females in a clan of spotted hyenas. That’s because females not only ‘wear the pants’, with even the lowliest female dominating the highest-ranking male, but also sport a pendulous clitoris that looks very much like a penis and a fleshy pseudo-scrotum. Like the penis, the clitoris – or ‘pseudo-penis’ – is used to urinate and is capable of erection. Females also have no vagina, which means that mating can be a hit-and-miss affair where the males (with their actual penis) must inseminate the females through the narrow clitoral opening. Birth for first-time mums is even more eye-watering, as the pups exit through this same narrow canal, splitting it open. More than half the pups suffocate on their way out. The biology behind the masculine-looking clitoris is not yet fully understood. It appears to develop without the influence of male sex hormones. One suggestion is that the cellular receptors that detect male sex hormones could be faulty in spotted hyenas, so that the receptors are permanently switched on. Other hyena species – brown ones, striped ones and aardwolves – have escaped this evolutionary quirk. Paddling softly but carrying a big stick. Twisted organs are a classic case of an evolutionary battle of the sexes. Credit: Getty Images / Wolfgang KaehlerThe Argentine blue-billed duck is another animal that rates highly in the penis-to-body length stakes. With a penis that can stretch to be as long as its body, it boasts the longest of any vertebrate (even if it’s not as impressive as the barnacle’s). But size is far from the only remarkable thing about the blue-bill’s penis. For a start, the fact it even has one is unusual. Just 3% of birds – including ducks, ostriches, emus and kiwis – have penises. The rest mate by males and females touching their respective ‘cloacae’ – all-in-one orifices for both reproductive and digestive functions – in a move called a “cloacal kiss”. Duck penises are twisted like corkscrews, and grow anew each year. Duck vaginas corkscrew in the opposite direction. The twisted organs are a classic case of an evolutionary battle of the sexes. In this case, the females have the upper hand. Their vaginas, which also have numerous ‘dead-end’ pockets, are a physical barrier against forced mating by randy males. When a female is receptive to a male’s advances, however, her vagina relaxes, allowing access to her labyrinthine reproductive tract and a greater chance of fertilising her eggs. dead end... the vagene eath by sex might not sound like much of a strategy, but for the antechinus, a small Australian marsupial, it’s a way of life. In all but one of more than a dozen antechinus species, males live for a single frenzied season of fornication and die soon after. It is not uncommon for insects and fish such as Pacific salmon to put their resources into a single bout of mating before they cark it. In mammals, however, suicidal reproduction, or ‘semelparity’, has evolved in only four groups – three small mouse-like, insect-munching marsupials like the antechinus, and the northern quoll (Dasyurus hallucatus), which is the size of a small cat. Food supply is the most likely culprit. In places where insect availability is highly variable across seasons, females squeeze their mating into a short window so their offspring will be born when food is plentiful. This is especially important for marsupials, whose pouched young need to be suckled for several months. The result is that a male antechinus is a kamikaze Casanova, staking all his resources on frantic mating marathons lasting up to 14 hours. This goes on for two to three weeks, by the end of which he is on death’s door. His fur falls out, his stress hormones are through the roof and his immune system collapses. Then he dies, though hopefully his genes will live on in the next generation. A female deep sea anglerfish (Edriolychnus schmidti) with two males on her back. Credit: Getty Images / Clive BromhallAnglerfish, with their bobbly lures hanging off their heads, are weird creatures at the best of times. But how the males lure females into sex is stranger still. Other male fish impress prospective mates with brightly coloured scales or mating dances. Not so for some species of anglerfish. A young male, which is significantly smaller than a female, will hunt down a companion and sink his teeth into her flesh. Enzymes in the suitor’s mouth then melt away his own mouth and his mate’s skin, fusing the two together. Thus attached, the male becomes a tumour-like parasite, relying on the female for food, delivered directly via their now melded blood vessels. Nutrition aside, the parasitic male is also afforded prime real estate from which to release sperm when the female releases her eggs. That’s not to say there is no competition; in some species, females have been observed with up to eight males attached. Koalas and other marsupials have bifurcated sexual organs. Credit: Getty Images / Abhishek Saini / EyeEmFemale marsupials – mammals that carry their young in pouches – aren’t plumbed like other mammals. Whereas humans and most other mammals have a single vagina, leading to a single uterus, marsupials – such as koalas, kangaroos, wombats, opossums and sugar-gliders – have three vaginas and two uteri. The left and right vaginas carry sperm from the penis – which is two-pronged, so as to inseminate both vaginas at once – while the central vagina serves as a birth canal for the jelly-bean-sized joeys that, once born, make their way to the mother’s pouch to continue their development. It’s perhaps not a coincidence that pouches and multiple vaginas developed together. The narrow size of the central passage probably makes early birth followed by development of the young in a pouch a necessity. Birds have them, bees have them, even regular old fleas have them, but in the animal kingdom, no penis is exactly like the next. Across vastly different species and ecosystems, unique environmental pressures have allowed creatures of many species to evolve an array of shapes and sizes—from the electric blue penis of the leopard slug to the blue whale’s ten-foot phallus. The more scientists learn about penises, the more they realize how varied sex organs are. Just ask Emily Willingham, a biologist and journalist who’s been studying penises for over a decade. Her book, Phallacy: Life Lessons from the Animal Penis, hit shelves in September. Phallacy plunges readers into the wild and wacky world of animal genitalia while exploring the social and cultural significance of penises as symbols of power and identity. Typically, a penis helps male animals reproduce sexually with a female—however, exceptions exist. Gender and sex rarely fit into tidy categories and animal penises are no different. Many of the creatures packing the most surprising phalluses are hermaphrodites, meaning they also have female reproductive organs. “There's not a binary that is categorically one thing or the other when it comes to genitalia,” says Willingham. These blurred lines often give rise to nature's most fascinating sexual organs. Here are eight penises that are as cool and surprising as the creatures that wield them: Sometimes one just isn’t enough. Or so it seems for the echidna, a spiny egg-laying mammal, which has evolved a four-headed penis. During copulation, echidna penises operate on a part-time schedule: half the penis temporarily shuts down while the other two heads are responsible for fertilization. But those extra two heads aren’t there just to show off. Next time the echidna mates, he’ll alternate which half he uses. By shutting down half of their penis at a time, male echidnas fit perfectly with the female’s two-branched reproductive tract. This creature’s coat of quills don’t spare its genitalia, which features penile spines—a horrifying frequent trait in the animal kingdom (even humans once had them) which may increase fertilization success or trigger ovulation. Dolphins have particularly dexterous phalluses. (Brent Durand / Getty Images)Dolphins are known for their intelligence, promiscuity and absurdly dexterous penises. They have a prehensile penis, meaning it can swivel, grab and grope, much like a human hand. A prehensile penis helps males navigate the complex, labyrinth-like reproductive tracts of female dolphins. Dolphins don’t just use their penises for baby-making, either. Bottlenose dolphins frequently copulate for pleasure, and often with members of the same sex. Dolphin sex doesn’t last long, only about ten seconds, but males can ejaculate multiple times an hour. This flatworm engages in penis fights. (Jens Petersen via Wikimedia Commons under [CC BY-SA 3.0])En garde! Many animals use their penises for love, but flatworms also use theirs to fight. Like many organisms with intriguing phalluses, flatworms that engage in penis fights are hermaphrodites—just one example that showcases how a sex binary system fails to account for the range, fluidity and diversity of many organisms. Some species of flatworm engage in this duel to see who can inseminate the other. Their two-headed penises resemble tiny swords, and battles can last for up to an hour as they take turns attempting to stab the other. The winner pierces the flesh of the other flatworm to deposit their sperm, something scientists refer to as “traumatic insemination.” Mating can be competitive, with a single flatworm fertilizing another. In other cases, like with the tiger flatworm, they can play both roles: each flatworm gives and receives sperm from its partner. Blue whales have the largest penis in the animal kingdom—around eight to ten feet. (NOAA Photo Library via flickr under [CC BY 2.0])Blue whales are the largest creature to ever roam the earth, and they certainly have the phallus to match. Blue whale penises range between eight and ten feet, with a foot-long diameter. Each of its testes along can weigh up to 150 pounds and can ejaculate gallons of sperm in a single go. Whale penises are so famously oversized that in Moby Dick, Herman Melville suggests using the skin of a sperm whale’s phallus as a floor-length apron to stay tidy while skinning the rest of the whale. We’ll have to take Melville’s word on that one. Barnacles have penises nearly eight times their body length. (Stux via Pixabay under [CC0])The blue whale might have the world’s biggest penis, but size is relative. Barnacles have the biggest penis-to-body size ratio, with genitalia nearly eight-times their total body length. Barnacles are stuck in place for life, so they use their super-long penises to reach other nearby crustaceans, blindly depositing sperm inside their neighbors. Like flatworms, barnacles are hermaphrodites that can fertilize others, be fertilized or both. Scientists have found that barnacle penis features change based on where they live. Those in rougher waters have shorter, stouter penises, while those in calmer areas have long, slender penises. If humans had the same penis-to-body-sized ratio as barnacles, our penises would be as long as a humpback whale, so about 50 feet in length, says Willingham. Bed bugs stab their partner during copulation. (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention via Wikimedia Commons under [CC0])Bed bugs are famous for their aggressive, stabbing sex. Sometimes, overzealous males kill females with their saber-like penis in the process. Willingham explains that this violent process has caused bedbugs to evolve “something very vagina-like where they tend to get stabbed.” This special less-armored area of their abdomen might minimize harm as the male injects his sperm into the female’s circulatory system. Females of this cave insect species wield a penis-like organ. (Biodiversity Heritage Library via Wikimedia Commons under [CC0])Not much shocks Willingham about animal penises anymore, but she says she was surprised to learn about a microscopic, eyeless cave insect, which upends how scientists understand sex. Males of the species have a vagina-like pouch containing sperm, while females have a special penis-like organ that penetrates and vacuums up sperm from the male. Unlike other species that use a similar process—butterflies, mites, beetles—males of these species don’t have a similar penetrative organ, only the females do, says Willingham. This sea slug has a single-use penis. (Bernard Dupont via Wikimedia Commons under [CC BY-SA 2.0])Meet Chromodoris reticulata, a type of sea slug, that has to reckon with a scary reality: sex means saying goodbye to their penis. At least, for the day. Chromodoris reticulata are hermaphrodites and fertilize each other simultaneously during sex. Each has a three-centimeter-long schlong, but they only extend a centimeter of their penis when copulating. After sex, they shed their single-use penis into the ocean’s abyss. But this loss doesn’t mean their sex life is over: they have at least two more disposable penis segments hidden away. As soon as 24 hours later, the slug will be back in action. Leopard slugs sport giant electric blue penises. (Cimabue via Pixabay under [CC-BY])Sometimes, penises pose logistical challenges. That is certainly the case for the leopard slug, which is so well-endowed that it has to go to extreme measures to reproduce. Mating leopard slugs dangle from branches by a shared rope of their own slime with their penises hanging below. As hermaphrodites, these slugs inseminate each other during sex so, once the action starts, two penises are on display. And their penises are easily spotted: They’re electric blue and roughly the size of the slugs themselves. “You just need to go look that one up,” says Willingham. You can see a video of the slugs in action here. The act is a messy tangle, but nothing goes to waste. Once copulation is complete, one partner slurps down the slimy sex rope as a post-coitus snack. you have a libido of a dolphin

Have you ever felt like you were floating? Like everything around you is gone and you’re completely weightless? Like your body is just drifting out into nothingness and no matter how much you squirm or fight, you just keep floating further and further away?
You blinked your eyes open and groaned, feeling cold droplets bounce against your exposed skin. A shiver ran up your spine and you felt something hard and wet against your back. Slowly twitching a hand out, you grabbed ahold of what was surrounding you: Grass. Wet grass. Okay, I’m outside, you told yourself.
You tried remembering where you were, but your memory felt like it was blocked by a brick wall. Upon rolling onto your side, you instantly felt like you were going to throw up. You brought your other hand to your forehead and rubbed, trying to push through the dizzy feeling and stave off the nausea.
After several seconds, you slowly sat up, trying to see where you were. Hopefully you could find shelter or someone who might help you. It was nighttime, the only light available was from the half moon when it peeked through the clouds, but you could tell you were in a field or some sort. There were several rows of trees around you, but no structures. You shifted up to your knees and stood, your legs wobbling with the exertion.
You closed your eyes as you felt your breathing and heart rate start to increase. You had no idea how you got there. Why couldn’t you remember anything? The last thing you remembered was saying goodnight to your dad and heading upstairs in your shared house to go to bed.
You opened your eyes wide and you instantly looked down at your clothes. You were wearing jeans and a fitted button up dress shirt that were both soaked from the rain. No visible cuts, bruises, and you didn’t feel anything broken. Drugged and kidnapped? You shook your head and felt around your pockets… nothing. No wallet or car keys; you were obviously dumped here.
You had no time to think further as you heard a low rumble of a car echo throughout the field. Your eyes darted around until you saw the faint glow of headlights off in the distance. A car, perfect. You began to take a few tentative steps towards where you think the road would be, making sure to give enough distance so you would be able to get there before the car. Your legs wobbled at the first few steps, but you quickly regained your footing and began to jog.
Your mind was racing just as fast as your heart was, but you didn’t need answers now. You needed help and to get out of the cold. Your fingers were starting to feel painfully tingly and you knew it was only a matter of time until there was permanent damage. You kept an eye on the bright headlights through the trees as they curved around the outside of the field down from where you were… they were still headed your way.
You slowed down and began to walk as you came across the road, your chest heaving due to the sudden athleticism. You could clearly see the headlights as they got bigger and closer to where you were. When the car was only a few hundred feet away from you, you stepped out into the middle of the road. Now or never.
“Stop, please! Help me!” Your voice came out as a raspy whisper and you cleared your throat. “Stop! I need help!” You waved your hands in front of you, trying to get the driver’s attention. You couldn’t tell if he saw you, so you closed your eyes, preparing for an impact just in case.
The impact never came. All you heard next was the screeching of brakes. You opened your eyes and saw the headlights stopped about ten feet in front of you, reflecting the light rain that was falling in their glow. Two car doors opened in succession.
“Hey, lady, are you okay?” One of the voices called out.
You looked up and blinked your eyes, trying to make out the faces of the people in front of you. You blocked the light from the headlights with your hand, but you were only able to make out silhouettes. One was standing behind the open driver’s side door and a taller one was standing behind the passenger’s side door.
“I,” your voice broke and you took a breath, “I don’t know. I don’t know how I got here. Please, I need some help.”
“Okay. Are you hurt?” The man on the driver’s side stepped around the door and took a few steps closer to you, making you instinctively take a few steps back. He raised his hands in surrender. “I’m not going to hurt you, my name is Dean, that’s my brother Sam.”
“Y/N,” you said as the man stepped closer to you again. “I don’t feel safe with you. How do I know you guys weren’t the ones that left me here in the first place?”
“We’re FBI agents. I’m reaching in my pocket for my ID, okay?” Dean said, and you nodded. He slowly reached inside his jacket and pulled out a small rectangle, throwing it over to you. It landed at your feet with a wet plop.
You slowly bent down, keeping your eyes on both men, and picked up the ID. Your hands were shaking as you flipped it open, revealing an FBI badge with a picture of a very attractive man with brown hair. You looked back up and closed the badge. You took a few steps closer to the man you figured was Dean, just close enough to be within arm’s reach.
“Sweetheart, you’re shaking,” Dean said as you handed him his badge back. “We have the heat going in the car. Let us give you a ride into town, okay?”
You nodded weakly as the world around you began to fade out and become blurry. Your legs began to wobble and your whole body began to shake as darkness overtook your vision. The last thing you remember was a strong pair of arms wrapping around your torso and murmurs of the two men talking to each other.
“… can’t leave her, dude. She might have been hunting what drew us here in the first place.”
Hunting? Were these FBI agents on a hunting trip? You slowly opened your eyes and realized you were in the back seat of the two FBI agent’s car, a soft blanket wrapped around you. The shivering had stopped and you had feeling back in your fingers.
“If she doesn’t remember how is she going to help- Oh, hey. How are you feeling?” The man in the passenger’s seat was turned around and looking down at you, long brown hair falling in his face.
“Warm and wet,” you shifted uncomfortably, your wet clothes making a squeaking noise against the leather.
You saw Dean smile. “That’s what-”
“Not now, Dean.” The long haired man scolded. What was his name again?
“Whatever,” Dean grumbled. “Sam here gave you a once over after you passed out, just to make sure nothing was broken and you weren’t bleeding.” Sam, that’s right. Wait… he had his hands on me when I was unconscious?
Sam seemed to notice the change in your expression and his eyes went wide. “Oh, no. Don’t worry, we didn’t touch you or anything. I mean, I had to touch you to feel for broken bones, but it wasn’t anything inappropriate. I didn’t touch anywhere that I shouldn’t…”
“I get it, Sam. Thank you for checking,” you interrupted his rambling, offering a small smile to sooth his panic. “So you’re FBI agent brothers?”
Dean and Sam exchanged a look and Dean offered a shrug as you sat up in the back seat, swinging your legs around in front of you.
“Yeah. Our last name is Winchester,” Sam said, studying your face.
“Oh cool, like the shotgun? My dad taught me how to shoot when I was growing up. The farms in Nebraska get a lot of wild animals,” you rambled, adjusting your shirt.
Deans brow furrowed and eyes met yours in the rear view mirror, allowing you to make out more of his features. He had bright green eyes and a dusting of freckles across his nose and cheeks. He was even more attractive than his picture.
Sam was also looking at you with a confused look on his face, causing you to speak up. “Why are you both looking at me like that?”
Sam pointed at the tattoo on your left forearm. “Do you remember where or why you got this?”
You looked down and ran your fingers over the design: a pentagram surrounded by flames. You shrugged. “My dad had the same one and he got me a matching one for my eighteenth birthday last year.”
Sam’s eyebrows shot up. “Wait, you’re nineteen?”
“Yeah, I was born in 1989,” you looked between Sam and Dean. “Why, is that a problem?”
Dean looked over at his brother, concern all over his face as he spoke up. “Y/N, what year is it?”
“It’s 2007. Mid-April, I’m guessing based on the weather. Nebraska is all but predictable,” you shook your head and let out a small chuckle, “so I’ve been missing for a few days, I’m guessing?”
You looked back up at Sam, who was staring at you with his mouth slightly open and his eyes wide. You looked to Dean and saw his hands tighten on the steering wheel.
Your heart skipped a beat and your smile disappeared. “What? What’s wrong?”
Sam cleared his throat. “Y/N, it’s October of 2017. And we’re about fifty miles outside of Missoula, Montana.”
“What?” You stared deep into Sam’s kaleidoscope eyes for any signs of deception. “That’s impossible.”
Sam reached into his pocket and pulled out a small and flat tablet-looking thing. Was that a phone? He tapped the screen a few times and a calendar appeared. He lifted it up to show you the date listed on the screen.
October 10, 2017.
Your eyes darted across the text on the screen a few times, but you still weren’t able to comprehend it. How could ten years of your life just disappear? Your eyes began to sting with tears as you dropped your head and stared at your hands clasped in your lap.
“How do I just not remember ten years of my life? How do I know you’re not tricking me?” You asked, growing suspicious.
“You remember using a cell phone back then, right?” Sam asked and you nodded. “Here, take my phone and click on the news app that’s there. It’ll show you the date at the top.”
You took the phone and stared at the screen. There were so many boxes, you didn’t know where to start. You saw one labeled News, and you tapped the screen. “I miss my Blackberry.”
You heard a soft giggle from Sam as the news app popped up on your screen. The first item you saw was an article about President Donald Trump. “Donald Trump is the President? What the fuck-?”
“Don’t even get me going,” Dean grumbled, shaking his head.
You raised an eyebrow at the date on the article. It confirmed that it was written today, October 10, 2017. You really had no memory of the last ten years. Tears began to fall down your cheeks as you passed Sam back his phone with a shaky hand.
“It’s okay, Y/N. We’re gonna get to the bottom of this.” Sam flashed a sympathetic smile and passed you a tissue. “We’re headed for a motel in town, stick with us for now, we might be able to help. We do need to have chat first.”
You wiped your eyes and choked back a sob when Sam mentioned talking. “About what?”
Sam hesitated, but Dean spoke up. “Well, not to pile on top of the shit-sundae that’s been your day, but we’re not FBI agents.”
“What?” You practically yelled, immediately trying the both the passenger and driver’s side rear doors, only finding them to be locked. “Let me out of here!”
“Y/N! Calm down! We’re not FBI, but we’re not bad people. We’re hunters,” Sam said before he heaved a heavy sigh. “We hunt monsters.”
You arched an eyebrow at him and parted your lips. Part of you wanted to scream, but all that came out was a laugh. “You’re joking, right? Did you two escape from a psych ward or something? You’re both nuts.”
“It’s been said,” Dean interjected. “But we’re serious. The tattoo on your arm is an anti-possession symbol, sweetheart… and if your dad wanted you to get one, he obviously was a hunter as well. Is he still alive?”
You closed your eyes and thought back to when you were a kid, running around the living room in a fit of giggles while your dad chased after you. He would always make up a new monster that would be chasing you. Wendigo, shapeshifter, rougarou… could they all be real?
“He is… um was, alive. Oh my God,” you leaned forward, folding your arms on the back of the front seat. “You have to take me there, now.”
“Hold on,” Sam said, turning in his seat to look at you. “We still don’t know how you got to that field. Something obviously wiped your memories, and we don’t know who or what that was. It could still be coming after you. Come with us back to our bunker, it’s protected against evil beings. We have a few resources there that might be able to help, and I can call around to other hunters and see if anyone remembers your father.”
“A bunker? Are we talking about some hole in the wall with metal bed frames, thin mattresses, and water leaking from everywhere?” You shook your head and sat back against the leather seat.
Sam smiled. “No, nothing like that. It’s… well, it’s more of a home for us than anything. There’s actual beds and hot water.. You’d have your own bedroom and there’s a library and a kitchen.”
You perked up at the mention of a kitchen. “A kitchen? I was in college studying to become a pastry chef.”
“Pastry chef? As in desserts,” Dean licked his lips, “and pie?”
“Yeah. I cooked every night for my dad, it was just me and him since I was a kid. He always told me I made the best pecan pie in Nebraska.” You smiled at the memory of you and your dad sitting in front of the TV watching football and enjoying slices of pie.
“You’re coming back with us to the bunker,” Dean’s eyes lit up. “Sammy, call Jody and some other hunters to see if we can get an idea about if her dad is still alive. What’s your dad’s name, Y/N?”
“Steven, Steven Novak.”
