god what really gets me about dead boy detectives and what i think i love so much about the show and the relationships in it is that like. the romantic and sexual relationships aren't portrayed as being more unique or important than the platonic relationships. they're all just RELATIONSHIPS.

charles and crystal's attraction to each other and eventual hookup isn't this big end-all be-all relationship that shatter charles and edwin's friendship and draws charles' attention away from edwin; it's just a THING that happens. they're just two people that care about each other and happen to also be attracted to each other, and a hook-up happens, then they decide that neither of them are in the right place for it and it's nothing awful. crystal kisses charles, but it isn't some big spectacle of her declaring her love for him; it's just her saying goodbye and that she cares about him, like her hugs with niko and jenny and her handshake with edwin.

edwin realizes he loves charles romantically and tells him, and charles says he doesn't really love edwin romantically BACK, but it's okay, because they still love each other so much in so many other ways that this one tiny difference could never change them—and it doesn't!! they're still just as close, still care for each other just as much, still SHOW that care for each other just as much. their relationship didn't completely end because edwin loved charles in a way charles couldn't reciprocate, but at the same time it isn't "solved" by edwin getting over it, because there's nothing TO solve. it's just another type of love, added to everything that already exists between them. and they have LITERALLY FOREVER to figure out what it means.

the relationships between edwin & niko, crystal & niko, and crystal & edwin aren't given any less weight for being solely platonic, just as charles & crystal's relationship and edwin's feelings for charles aren't given (that much) MORE weight for being romantic. crystal and charles' conflict in the closet is about EDWIN, about how they're BOTH his friend and BOTH want to get him back; it has very little to do with the feelings between THEM, romantic or otherwise. similarly, the weight of charles' and edwin's relationship isn't diminished in the LEAST by charles not reciprocating the romantic side of his feelings (or SAYING he doesn't reciprocate, at least—we can all argue about the legitimacy of that in the notes).

i'm sure there are more examples than this, as well as probably some examples that CONTRADICT this, but like... by and large, it feels like dead boy detectives is a show where all the relationships are given equal weight regardless of platonic, sexual, romantic, or familial status, and as someone on both the asexual and aromantic spectrums who has struggled time and time again with shows casting out the importance of all other relationships in favor of prioritizing romance, that is INCREDIBLY refreshing to see.

Oh, so, like, the entire first season's establishment of the characters and their interactions don't actually matter in Helluva Boss. Okay, cool.

Like, I get that characterization develops over time and the writers come up with new ideas and places they want to take the story, but. So much of the Stolas/Blitzø stuff recently isn't character development: it's retconning.

sometimes i think about how wild a mw2 movie would be if they just dropped soapghost right in the middle with no warning or marketing. like imagine it being beat for beat the exact same, it’s your typical military action movie, promoted as just another military action movie then after they get to the safe house, ghost has to patch up soap and he’s still out of it, overwhelmed by the betrayal and everything he’s seen and ghost needs to ground him and keep him in the present, to remind him that he’s alive and safe so he kisses him and they have sex. the tantrums and the rants and the “ReAl sOLdiErS aRen’t liKe ThAt”, god i can taste it and it’s delicious

guys i really hate to say it but Abe's kind of been the highlight of the last two episodes for me & feels most in character to his S1 counterpart when compared to the other main characters 😭

ALSO him & Joan had more genuine chemistry in the one hospital scene than JFK & Joan have had all season & as a member of the JoanFK nation i am frustrated

fang do u have any personal casual hookup rules u abide by in terms of safeguarding urself mentally and/or physically after the deed is done? i know u have a very rational insight to sex-ed & sex positivity and i appreciate it bc a lot of other ppl's advice and rules for casual sex boils down to no kissing (which is kinda heartbreaking to me but i'ma sap), use protection (obviously) or it just tilts in a way that shames women in particular for even wanting smth casual. sorry if this comes at an odd time i just feel like if anyone can give it to me straight it's you!!

ok i know u said for afterwards but i do want to say my number one general hookup advice which is don't have sex with someone you wouldn't share a meal with and don't have sex with someone who isn't willing to feed you afterwards!

this has been my general rule of thumb for any form of casual sex and relationships and it will save you a lot of trouble at any point. it's my golden rule for casual relationships.

its a very easy litmus test. if you ask the person you're sleeping with if they have any snacks or if they could get you some and they respond positively / without being confused or annoyed, you are like soo golden. even better if they offer without asking. it seems very basic, but sharing food like that is a very good sign they like genuinely see you as a person. don't sleep with someone who wouldn't be able to meet you at the most basic level of sharing food with you. its not an inherently intimate thing, but still shows respect. ik it seems random but im so serious

i think no kissing rule sucks booo i want to makeout i dont use it. protection is obvious. in terms of protecting yourself like 99% of the battle is just picking a person who is at a baseline decent like genuinely. so genuinely. but its also the hardest part

im not going to be helpful on the emotional front (ex manwhore) but physically drink a lot of water afterwards and keep some babywipes on you at all times!!!!! cleaning up downstairs and having washed hands can save ur life. i reccomend a toothbrush too like try to do all of those things immediately if u cant shower right away

Been SUPER emotional today.

Todays just sucked. I got pissy at my friend, I got salty at a random guy—Then... tactile hallucinations. I cried, and my mom, bless her heart—Assigned me a book to read for education... but it's about rape, which for some reason, that MEGA triggered me and I ended up having a near panic attack today. It's weird, because I write about S.A, and it rarely triggers me??

So... yeah. Might not sleep much tonight. I'm super stressed about KOSA, and the eclipse is tomorrow... I haven't eaten in the past day or so, so I guess that doesn't help my mood.
