Cedric's role in season 4 - Part 2

So, this is the second part in a series of posts I'm doing about what episodes in season 4 I think Cedric would have easily fit into, but they totally excluded him from. Because let's face it, he was only in four episodes there (including the finale), and it made no sense after his big redemption in the start of the season!

In Part 1 and Part 1.5, I talked about how Cedric could have been a part of the Mystic Isles arc and Sofia's Protector training.

Another episode he could have appeared in is 'Too Cute To Spook' (s4, episode 12), since both Calista and Cordelia are in it! It takes place after 'Through the Looking-Back Glass' (s4, episode 9).

The episode is all about Calista going trick-or-treating on Halloween with Sofia and her witch friends, and Calista struggles to fit in and make friends with the witches because they think she's too young to join them, and poor Calista's attempts to fit in result in her making mistakes and things going wrong for everyone.

Even tho Calista is a main character in this episode, with Cordelia only making a brief appearance in the beginning, there's no reason why Cedric couldn't have also made a cameo appearance there!

The episode opens with Sofia about to leave the castle to go trick-or-treating with her witch friends when she meets Cordelia and Calista also on their way out, only they're going to a party of a sorceress friend of Cordelia's.

Calista shows off her costume of the Giggling Goblin, which she is so proud of (her knowledge and fascination with the legend of the Giggling Goblin is so freaking adorable), then Sofia invites her to come trick-or-treating with her after Calista laments that she loves Halloween and would rather be doing something fun instead of going to a boring grown-up party.

Why wasn't Cedric even MENTIONED once throughout this whole scene?? They could have expressed disappointment that Cedric maybe couldn't go out with them because he had to work (maybe helping decorate the castle for Halloween) or maybe because he hates parties and big social gatherings (which is my hc for why he didn't go with Cordelia). And/or Calista should have told Sofia that she showed Uncle Ceddy her costume and that he praised how scary it was (maybe even said he helped her with it)!

There's no reason Cedric couldn't have been given a cameo appearance in that beginning scene, tho! It REALLY would have completed the scene! His absence really stood out.

Since this was after 'The Looking-Back Glass', and that episode ended with the siblings reconciling after Cordelia realized she'd been horribly wrong about Cedric all along (and Cedric fixed her hair, much to her gratitude), I'm sure the siblings spent the weeks or months she and Calista were staying with the royal family (while their own place underwent renovations) getting closer! The beginning of this episode would have been a perfect opportunity to give an example of that, whether by giving Cedric a cameo or even a mention!

The majority of the episode was about Calista's eagerness to fit in with Sofia and her witch friends, and her making a ton of mistakes as she tried to make their trick-or-treating adventure a fun one. @mushroomsie224 made a post talking about how similar the witches' treatment of Calista was to everyone of Cedric during the Incident- how angry they got with her mistakes ruining everything, how desperate she was to try to fix things (which only made things worse), her refusal to give up, etc. And that would have been a perfect opportunity for the writers to make that comparison! Calista could have sadly said something like "This must be just what Uncle Ceddy always felt like!" And she or Sofia could have brought up how Cedric knows what it's like for people to treat him poorly for making mistakes, but that "he never stopped trying" or "but we know he's still a great sorcerer" as a means of encouragement.

ok yknow what - more thoughts about the ending of S5 and why I was so thrown by it

Cat Noir wasn't there!!! CAT NOIR WASN'T IN THE GRAND FINALE DEFEAT OF HAWK MOTH?? HOW IS THIS REAL??

That's one thing.

The other thing is how ambiguous Gabriel's feelings toward Adrien actually ARE. does he hate him? see him as someone to be controlled? as a power play? what's up with the pancakes and the 'call me dad' then??? is it just for show/a ruse/a trick/a trap that'll get revealed?

I could see a real change of heart happening when he realized he was dying. if he didn't also continue browbeating Adrien about being with Kagami and not Marinette.

he didn't HAVE a rich-person superiority complex UNTIL season 5, either, so that came out of nowhere.

his attitude towards Adrien doesn't seem to have changed at all WHAT DO THE PANCAKES MEAN THEN?? Even Nathalie is surprised by this! it is never explained!

Then Ladybug comes in with "Nathalie is dying, you're dying, how much sacrifices are you willing to make?? Adrien has moved on, but you're about to DESTROY him! Nathalie is dying! You're dying! Giving his mother back won't help anything!"

and this works?? for some reason?? looking back I suppose the pancakes DID mean he cared for Adrien?????? and the Kagami thing was the one and only thing he put his foot down about?

IDK this needed to be foreshadowed a LOT better. we needed to really see him, telling Emilie or Nathalie "wow... I've been treating Adrien so poorly lately... I should be a better dad... this is really important to me. like even to the point of like. half the reason I'm bringing Emilie back at all is for him!" And guess what? He DID tell this (or most of it) to Adrien! And I didn't believe him! Why? BC HE'S LIED TO ADRIEN BEFORE. He's also manipulated Adrien's friends (and anyone, really!) just to get an akuma victim. (don't tell me this wasn't what was happening WAY BACK IN THE BUBBLER.)

honestly I've NEVER been sure whether Gabriel's concern for Adrien is real. it seemed real in Santa Claws. It seemed very much less real in The Collector. It seemed less and less real with every alternate reality where Adrien/Cat Noir was akumatized because Gabriel found out his identity.

The excuses always are "oh we cant ship Vickie with Robin, we don't know enough about her, and they didn't interact enough for us to ship them, oh Vickie has no personality."

But then the fandom turns around and ships Gareth, who we know exactly three things about: plays dnd, likes metal, and plays drums in the same band as Eddie, and he is basically interchangeable with the other two corroded coffin/ hellfire dudes for all we know about them, with Will who he has never met. (This isn't a criticism of the character or the ship, more of the way people treat Gareth and Gareth/Will vs how they treat Vickie and Robin/Vickie.)

We have so many little things about Vickie. The strong hints of her being bi. Her having a similar sense of humour and taste in movies to Steve, like with the muppet joke and Fast Times. She's in band with Robin. She stayed behind and volunteered after the earthquake. She rambles when she gets flustered/nervous.

So imo its half 😡 she gets in the way of my gay ship so she is the worst. And half just the general fandom thing of treating women like shit, or holding them to a higher standard than men.

(seriously this fandom sees three men that have so little development and personality that they are basically the same character and can give them all in depth and different background stories. But one woman that has some overlap of interests with other characters, while still being her own character and it's just she's basically the same as a different character, that she has obvious differences to, so we're not even going to include her, or if we do she's the villain or we're going to treat her like shit)

But also we do know a few things about that aren't "rambles and is in band". she also talks over the national anthem and eavesdrops! She gets passionate about movies, gets distracted, and enjoys Robin's company! It's so sad that she's often left to the wayside for being boring or too much like Robin yet other male side characters we know even less about get backstories etc from the fandom. Like damn can we not give vickie some time to shine? more love for vickie always!!

So I'm graduating an art academy in 4 days...

I'm defending my master's thesis on Tuesday, 11 am. It's been five years since I started this college (technically it's an academy,not university, not art school, it's an art academy), and thought I'd share my thoughts on my time there in a sort of written blog-ish format. I had written blogs as a teenager and younger adult, there were three, and the last one is still there for people to read. (It's mintwmb.blogspot.com, it's in Polish + I was still younger, slightly more cringe and much less bitter when I was writing there. Still love that blog tho.)

I started uni (I'm gonna call it that, it's easier) in 2019 in October. In Poland, academic year has two semesters - a winter one which runs from October to January/February and a summer one, from February to June. I started as a graphic design student, but graphic design was only available as an extramural studies course, which I was ok with... until I learned that it wasn't free, which in a standard in Poland. It was 600PLN/150USD per semester, so 1200PLN/300USD per year. Not really that bad, but still I wasn't having any of it. It was too late to move to general graphics, which is free, so I payed for a year and moved for year 2.

The design course was awful for me, I hated it. We mainly learned how to use Adobe programs, basics of typography, basics of graphic design history etc. There was almost no drawing or painting - duh it's a DESIGN course, but it wasn't that obvious for 19 yo. me. Also I didn't really like the people there, but I think it was also a me problem, not a strictly them problem. I was incredibly depressed during year one, but it's not like they were saints. I knew that they talked shit about me behing my back when I wasn't in the room, but that wasn't really a problem for me? I've been goth for 11 years ffs, I'm used to that! Also I didn't value them as people and I still don't. It's not like we could really get along. I had one friend, her name was Hanna, she liked a lot of stuff that I did. She became friends with the other girls from our year at the end of the summer semester, which I saw as betrayal, but I don't think it's the case now. I wasn't exactly likeable during year one.

The lecturers were weird. One lady, who we'll simply call A., was a nightmare. She glamorised being overworked to an extreme deegree, she even asked people from my group to tell her the time they were going to sleep. She was only impressed with people who had unhealthy sleep schedules because of work and treated it like competition.

I moved to general graphics for year 2. The course includes printmaking (like eatching, linocut etc.) and graphic design. Why put these two together you might ask? Well, in Polish they're both called "grafika". That's the reason. A castle and a zipper are both called "zamek" and nobody confuses these two, so why put such different things into one course? We'll never know.

To this day I think I chose my uni course (both of them really) poorly. As a 24yo woman I'd choose something like ethnology, history or cultural studies on Wrocław University, but at that time, a dumbass, late teen version of me thought that a fondness for drawing is enough to go through a Fine Arts Academy without major mental health consequences. It's really not. You need a real appreciation for modern high art (no, not furry fanart), some understanding of it, and most importatnt, a need to create it. I have a need to draw whatever I like at that point, be it a historical era, classic gothic horror icons or even some anime fanart, but no need for fine, modern art. But also, ngl, I feel like painting something pretentious after I learned about it...

Anyways, years 2-4! I moved to general graphics. I was on the same course as my boyfriend. I had a bit of catching up to do... or I could have, but COVID happened. I was so happy when it did, I could finally isolate myself from these people without consequences. I already hated this uni and considered to drop out, but I actually really enjoyed online classes and lectures.

But. I had one particular subject that I hated with burning passion - creative drawing. In this academy you choose two main workshops alongside other classes like photography, typography etc. Workshops are divided into prntmaking workshops and design workshops. At that time we were choosing multiple design workshops but only one printmaking - mine was creative drawing, which is basically a very pretentious mix of modern art, drawing, painting and prontmaking. I was really shit at that ngl. But I wasn't alone there.

There was another girl who moved from graphic design to general graphics and ended up in creative drawing - my to this day bestie Pamela. We are polar opposities, she wears 99% pink and is a dancer, I'm a goth and currently a museum lecturer. At that time neither of us had a job, but I was interested in history and she liked K-pop.

I chose to change my printmaking workshop for Intaglio (mixed media but in the printmaking realm, the professor is a great artist and besides being VERY demanding, a nice man).

An acid etching print that I made in 2022, the plate measures around 100x60cm I believe.

I made a very bad decision called "artbook design workshop" during year 3. The lady leading the workshop was A., with all of her overworking yourself to death bullshit. Our assignment for the semester was making a pocket calendar inspired by the Academy (so they can sell it and never give us a penny). I made one inspired by the Academy's iconic neon sign, known widely in the city. I was getting standard critique sessions every week and showed the so overworked A. and her two assistants, K. and M. my progress. It was all online, so I shared my screen with Adobe Illustrator every time. People who do graphic design will probably be suprised - Illustrator is for designing vectori shapes, like logos. InDesign is for books, you can't make a book in Illustrator. Well, it was my first time making a book and I didn't know. When they realised what I was using, AFTER AT LEAST TWO MONTS OF SHOWING MY SCREEN WITH ILLUSTRATOR OPENED, they lost their shit. And it was all my fault. For not knowing. I re-made it in InDesign but it did cost me a lot of stress and I hold a massive grudge to this day.

The neon calendar made it to an exhibition called Bookmakers 2022, but at what cost.

During year 4 I got into a final leg of an art competition, which required me travelling to Northeast Poland aka Podlasie. The place was nice, but the organisation of the final exhibition was hell and again, made me incredibly stressed out. Also the organisers were almost allergic to listening waht others have to say.

Year 5, doing my master's.

The genral graphics course doesn't give you a bachelor's, it gives you a master's. Extramural graphic design is divided into bachelor's course first and then master's, but for genral, you just make master's. Actually, two of them, in design and printmaking, so I'm gonna be a double MFA in four days. BUT AT WHAT COST. During year 5 it was normal for me to work 15-16 hours per day with one meal break + tiny bathroom / making tea breaks. Also I started my museum job, so sometimes my workday lasted about 20 hours at worst. For a year. When I wasn't doing my museum lectures, I made prints and worked in Illustrator and InDesign. The stress was insane with all of that + paperwork, I have many physical health problems to deal with because of it too. But it's over now! Almost. I spent $400 on printing my design diploma and $70 on chocolate for my promoters (it's a thing you don't technically have to do, but practically, you have to. My bf was the only person who didn't give chocolates to the promoters and he's the only one who got a lower diploma grade <3 Still a 5 - we have a scale from 2 aka failed, to 5,5 aka best grade - but everyone who had gifts got a 5,5). I hope my defense will go well.

My last uni photo, made in the Academy's garden. Had to fill in my thinning-from-massive-stress hairdo in an app, so that's fun :))))

So yeah, that's my uni. I'm so happy to graduate and just work in the museum <3

Depends on the fandom, object wise i wanna say Balloon (especially in iii), and while i also love Flowers arc i feel she got a bit watered down at the end of bfb. Quite curious to know where Robot Flower's is going though. Non object fandom, I wanna say Riko from made in abyss has some amazing development,and in general the arc around Vueroeruko and Irumyuu was fucking insane. Sobbing immediately and violently.

L - Say something genuinely nice about a character who isn’t one of your faves.

Ugh. Candle is not a bitch and im mostly just uncomfortable with how close she is with silver and her chill attitude is Annoying to a certain degree. Cabby is Fine in the very late episodes and her friendship with yinyang is Nice. Non object related, uhh. uhhhh. idk i dont have any MAJOR hatred i think. or if i do it's so bad i Deleted them from my brain lmao.

some headcanons ill die defending are mostly darker ones,honestly. but i guess heres some misc. ones from multiple fandoms

- Julian (The Arcana) has BPD and i will never back off from that

- Kenny (south park) sometimes is cis and sometimes isn't,depending how his body regenerated after the latest death

- Yin and Yang (inanimate insanity) have an extremely codependent fucked up relationship

- Rick (Rick & Morty) is bilingual and can speak spanish perfectly. Yes i know this is basically canon but goddamn if the show NEVER brings it up. Im salty about this.

It's so lazy and telling just how poorly the narratives/fandom treat characters like Anders,Daenerys and even Edelgard from Fire Emblem. The fact that these characters are all trying to either improve the lot treatment of their people or to help the disenfranchised and they get demonised in the process is definitely not a coincidence. I’ve been seeing a lot of slander about justin russo on the internet lately and I’m currently hyperfixated on wizards of waverly place so here’s why justin is an awesome character/doesn’t deserve the hate he gets

He’s kind and treats those he loves well. Justin is canonically really good at comforting people. Although he argues with Alex a lot, at the end of the day, he’s also her older brother and genuinely cares about her. When Professor Crumbs threatens to take Alex’s magic away because she doesn’t turn her report card in, Justin says that Crumbs will also have to take his magic away. Justin is ultimately selfless. We see again and again the sacrifices he makes for Alex and I think we mainly see his kindness in that relationship. Despite that, I think he’s also notably kind to Juliet. When he finds out that he made the mistake of reporting Juliet and her parents, he instantly tries to fix it. Not only does he try to fix it, but he puts his job as Monster Hunter in jeopardy for Juliet and her parents - her parents haven’t even been that nice to him. Justin is ultimately selfless and at the end of the day, he sacrifices himself or what he wants for others. When Rosie turns back into a good angel, instead of selfishly continuing to date her and keeping her in the mortal world (which he could have done - she literally offers to stay with him), he gives her up because he realizes the world needs a guardian angel more than he needs a girlfriend. Even though it hurts because he loved her, he gives her up. There’s no “award” for doing this - he won’t move up a level in the wizard competition, he really won’t get any recognition for giving Rosie up. He doesn’t even get any recognition for turning the moral compass back to good. He does it because it’s the right thing to do. Although later I’ll argue that Justin is constantly seeking validation, I also think that the heroic/good things he does are often done with no expectation of being praised for it. He does them because he has a strong sense of morals. He’s also kind to Harper, Zeke, his parents, and even Max, who people rarely ever show kindness to in the show.

He’s in touch with his emotions. When the show starts, Justin is very against anything that will show him as feminine or emotional. In fact, he even says he’s allergic to emotions (or something like that) to cover for the fact that he’s crying over his missing dog. As the show goes on, we see Justin start to embrace and accept his emotions more and to lose touch with his toxic masculinity. I think dating Juliet changed him in a lot of ways (making him more relaxed, etc), and I think one was encouraging him to be more emotional. After Wizards vs. Vampires, Justin is pretty emotional and open about his emotions in the show. He’s even open with talking about them. In the movie, he opens up to Alex about how he feels like Jerry & Theresa wouldn’t love him as much if he were less “perfect,” which brings me to my next point.

At the end of the day, Justin is a sad character. I know it’s a kid’s show but they really do cover a lot of issues so bear w me. I’m hyperfixated and I like to over analyze shows so I’ve thought about this a lot. Justin is the oldest, which means he already deals with pressure to be perfect. Then, add in the fact that his parents are constantly describing him as the “perfect child” and putting him on a pedestal, while pitting the kids against each other as a result of the wizard culture bc of the family competition (I love Jerry & Theresa but they’re not perfect). He’s also a high achiever and we know he puts extreme pressure on himself to do well - they always make a joke about it but it’s actually quite sad. He literally feels poorly about himself when he gets a B and bases his entire self worth on his grades and skills as a wizard. In fact, in the movie he voices doubt about whether or not he’s good at anything other than magic. I have a few things I want to say about all of this. First of all, I think Justin is constantly seeking validation. I think as the oldest and “best” child, he feels the need to be perfect all the time, but he also does many of the things he does because he just wants validation. When Harper decides to run a marathon, Justin does too, and sadly his accomplishment of finishing it is overshadowed by Harper “winning.” I also think Justin feels threatened by the success of others because he thinks it invalidates his. When he opens up to Alex in the movie, he says that he’s jealous of her because it seems like everything comes naturally to her. Justin feels as if his parents loving his siblings takes away from their love from his. It’s irrational, but very real. Which brings me to my next point - Justin has generalized anxiety disorder. It makes sense - the overthinking, the outbursts he has (Alex refers to it as a conniption once) of panic or frustration, the overachieving, etc. As someone who probably has autism, I also think he’s autistic (which would explain his troubles with tone, struggle making friends, obsessions with things like Captain Jim Bob Sherwood and science, being better w robots than people, and so much more).

Ultimately, Justin has a strong moral backbone. Although he’s a stickler for the rules and this oftentimes leads him to do bad things initially, he always does the right thing in the end. For example, when Justin and Alex go to court and Justin duplicates himself to be his lawyer, his lawyer ultimately proves that Justin is guilty; he even says something along the lines of “We’re Justin Russo. We always do what’s moral and just.” Justin has a strong sense of justice (which could also be from being autistic but I could do a whole other post about neurodivergency coding in WOWP and Disney & Nick shows overall bc there’s a ton of coding) and does what he thinks is right, most of the time. Sure, sometimes he does bad things, but he’s also a teenager at the end of the day and he’s highly competitive.

Finally, Justin Russo is super progressive - in fact, he’s probably the most progressive characters of the show. He acknowledges climate change and actively tries to create a solution for it. In fact, for his science fair project he makes a water powered engine, which would reduce carbon emissions. He also wears a shirt at one point that says “Make art not war.” I will admit that his biases against the werewolf he dated were problematic, but he clearly grew from that because he never held any of that against Mason. He’s also into science and is a nerd and although this is a stereotype, most young people who are into science and are nerds are progressive. I’m pretty sure he also is well aware of current events and would probably read the newspaper. Also I myself headcanon Justin as trans and bi (again could make another post about characters in wowp that are queer)

Unpopular opinion: I saw someone on YouTube say that Riven was making it up when he said she's interested in things she was never interested in before and I don't get that?? They interpreted it as him talking about her music carrier, and I always assumed he was taking about her interest in hanging out with Andy when Musa was VERY stand offish in s1-3 before the crime the writers committed on her in s4 and actively snipped at people around her. Also!!! Her fashion and her mannerisms all changed in s4!!! I was also confused on why Musa was acting different!!! Also Riven's personality stopped in s2, I don't count s3 Riven as the same person. S1-2 is one guy, s3 is another guy, and s4 is a different guy. I don't know if I have an unpopular Brandon opnion. UHHHH I think he'd look like a fucking idiot if it wasn't for his personality, and he definitely should of been the leader of the specialists because he obviously has the best teamwork skills. Sky isn't good at working with the other guys if you really pay attention to him. Like he'll work along side but he's bad at working with. If that makes any sense

Favorite headcanon: Riven is actually really protective of his spot at Red Fountain, and the most obvious sign that he wasn't acting completely of his own will in s1 was him endangering his spot there. But because he wasn't close enough to anyone for them to know that, no one realize that he was under Darcy's control. Being a servant has strongly colored Brandon's opinions of most royalty, nobles, and rich people in a very negative way due to they way he was pretty poorly treated by people like Diaspro. One of the main reasons he was interested in Stella romantically at first is because she caught him off guard with how nice and genuine she was. RIVEN GETS FUCKED UP AT THE END OF S2!!!! FUCK YEAH SCARS!!!!! Brandon being asexual is just a good hc to me, it's so much fun. He's constantly flirting and trying to kiss people and he doesn't experience physically attraction, he just likes it. Riven has a sibling but they take after his mom and are like a terrible person. Their the main reason Riven worked to hard to escape his home town. Brandon has had a crush on ALL of the specialists at some point

AI, I JUST FINISHED CHAPTER 9! I have so many thoughts about the recent chapter and I am dying to share them with you! You write so well and put so much effort in your works and you deserve to know that your readers see that!

Another amazing ride and despite the news about Y/N's health, it's incredibly satisfying! To see Y/N finally step back and realize that she needs to stand her ground and look after herself the way she's been doing for everyone else is the biggest character development here. I didn't see it coming that the last line would be from Y/N and directed at Gojo! It's a clear line drawn about her characterization at this point and just shows how she's changed. And it's an amazing line that still reflects who she is because it's not necessarily hurtful, it just establishes her new boundaries, and neither is it unreasonable, it's a perfect demand that still keeps the relationship balanced. She could've been petty and asked for him to leave Sera, she could've demanded to move out. But she still chose to honor the marriage, just in her terms this time because now she recognizes that she's as much a part of that marriage as Gojo is and therefore deserves better.

As for the frosty asshole, I was the Gojo sympathizer on your main blog asks and I still stand by everything I said. I still see where Gojo is coming from and why he acts the way he does but after chapter 8, I found that I could no longer sympathize with him. Coming from an emotionally draining background is no excuse to treat anyone else poorly, especially the one person who's actually trying to ease your pain despite being hurt herself. But his biggest flaw as a character was his refusal to admit his mistakes and grow past them. We already know he's self-aware, but he's adamant in keeping his hurtful ways because of his pride and because of his lack of emotional maturity. I know that in the recent chapter he's had a very rude and harsh awakening, but he's yet to prove that he can actually step and put his money where his mouth is. It's good to see that he's stopped listening to Sera and shifting blame to Y/N tho.

Speaking of Sera, just like in my other ask, I also see where she's coming from. It's really skillful how you write flawed characters. She's an antagonist but you still humanize her, some fic writers simply choose to make their antagonists a one-dimensional caricature of a Bad Guy™ to make it easier for the readers to digest but you actually make the effort to write her as more than just a random mistress. She grew up the eldest daughter of a poor family in a bad neighborhood. Her parents are unreliable and her siblings are way too young to help out. So now she shoulders the burden of providing for them and keeping their family afloat. I do believe she's not inherently a bad person, however she is selfish, bitter, vindictive, and lacks self-awareness. This could all be a product of her upbringing but as a grown adult, she can no longer blame her environment for her nasty attitude as she's olf enough to know better. Just like Gojo, she is refusing to change.

I also noticed she self-pities a lot and directs the negativity that stirs towards Y/N because she's the easiest target in her eyes. She hates the rich people who constantly look down on her and seeing as these same people favors Y/N, she sees her as the embodiment of everything she simultaneously hates but wishes she could become. She's a hypocrite. She is obsessing over Y/N's status not only because she's envious, but also because it makes it easier for her to justify how she treats her. She was actually civil with her the first time they met, but that turned sour when she realized just how better she had it. Everything she did in the Bora Bora trip was out of bitterness and envy, not even love for Gojo. Because in this last chapter its basically been confirmed that he doesn't love Gojo for the man he is, but for the man she wants him to be; she is with him because she thinks he's what he needs.

I do feel for her, because she never thought she'd end up the abtagonist of what used to be a fairytale for her. But she needs to realize soon that the moment she agreed to Gojo's marriage to Y/N and stayed while completely aware of his plans to use and discard her, she already made herself the villain. She might think of herself as the victim but it was her who put herself in that position in the first place. She's just misdirecting her frustration on Y/N because she refuses to take accountability much like Gojo used to in the previous chapters.

Anyways, I'm sorry for the long ask! It's just that I didn't get to say much on my previous ask here because I was far too overwhelmed with rage to actually sort my thoughts out! I hope you're well and the new posting schedule is working better for you!

MY TOUGHTS ON PART THREE OF RED HOOD BY CHIP ZDARSKY :)

A DC RENDITION OF THE SONG “MOTHER KNOWS BEST” FROM TANGLED.

Well, here we are, three issues in this story of only six parts and i still cant tell if i like it or not. What i know for sure tho is that Zdarsky never read any Red Hood books, i had my suspicions but now i am at least 95% sure.

This Jason has been nerfed. We had a perfectly balanced Jason back in 2005 he was smart, skilled, confident and strategic. Then from 2011 to 2020 (let’s put the fact that Lobdell is trash aside for a moment) Jason was skilled, he had the whole “chosen one” thing going on with the all-castle, and in some moments you could even see him being quick witted and confident. But now in this first half of this story he is extremely insecure, his skill set and expertise is barely there and is presented as just reckless. 

The other day i was talking about how DC treats Jason, how they just can’t decide on who he is, what motivates him or what he wants. His personality is a whole ass mess, it was fine in 2005 and 2010 when Winick wrote him but then Lobdell from years 2011 to 2020 just couldn't decide what he wanted to do with Jason or his relationship with Batman and his rules. After Lobdell finally left Jason was passed around people who either only read Lobdell's work, or didn't read anything from him or didn't take into account Jason's life because their book was set in a future that may never happen. 

What i am trying to say is that Jason doesn't have a personality, and writers don't really add things to the Jason that we “know”, what they do is start his story from zero over and over again. There is no consistency to Jason's character and while you could argue that maybe this new start could be the definite version of Jason Todd/Red Hood i will point out that this nerfed version of him is a major disservice to the character that he was when he was brought back to DC.

It’s simply not nice. 

And in this particular issue the “Jason isn't that good at this whole vigilante gig” is even more pushed because of the whole “batman knows best” bullshit. I am not getting this (anthologies) book with a Red Hood story just for Batman to come in and be like “I am actually good at this job, you know nothing AND i have the moral high-ground”, this is NOT it.

If you are reading a Red Hood story chances are that you will be interested in Red Hood not Batman. 

Oh one more thing, Jason was an excellent Robin. He was kind, smart and skilled. I liked the flashbacks in UtRH because it showed Jason being all that but he also understood a couple of things about the kind of criminals that Gotham had, your common thug is easily scared of the concept of Batman but the dress-ups knew that no matter what they did the Bat would never kill them, that’s what Jason thought about criminals there.

This Robin Jason is treated rather poorly by Zdarsky at times, he feels insecure and inferior to Dick but he is also dismissive of him and the Robin mantle in the first issue, now in this one he is shown as way too reckless (which is kinda bad because it feeds into DCs favorite trope of “Jason’s death was Jason’s fault”) and his stance on “low level” criminals is weird, like it was made clear that drug related criminals are Jason’s biggest issue, thieves were not. 

Those are my general thoughts on this issue and the current state of Jason’s characterization. I have some panels from this issue that i want to talk about in more depth tho, so here we go. 

The issue stars were we left off once more, Tyler defends Jason and when Batman asks who he is Tyler says that he is the Blue Hood, that was really sweet of him, that child is adorable and he needs to be protected. 

Once the Bat distracts Tyler Jason tells the Bat that the man he killed was Tyler’s dad. 

There are a couple of things i want to point out from these panels, Jason feels incredibly guilty, not about killing Andy but about leaving Tyler in a situation that is similar to the one he was left in when his own mother died. He still believes that Andy was not a good man and deserved to be dead, after all he was drugging his own son and was the reason Tyler’s mom overdosed and is now in the hospital. It just hits incredibly close to home for Jason and i understand completely. 

The other thing i want to point out is that Jason says “I know your rules. No killing in Gotham” so, this is (to me) confirmation that Jason hasn’t killed in a long time and that he has been sticking to the Bat's rules (at least in Gotham). Andy (a drug-dealer) is the only person that Jason has killed since the events of UtRH (that are apparently canon in this story because it was mentioned in the first issue). 

Following this conversation the Bat says that he will take care of Tyler’s mother (yikes, i really thought in my last post that Jason was the one who would have tried to get her the help she needed, to me it seems more appropriate if Jason does it given that this is his story but what do I know) 

This is where this Red Hood story transforms into the Batman show.

Not only will Bruce take care of Tyler's mom but he will clean up the mess and shut down the making of the drug all by himself. Jason tells him that he will do it but the Bat tells Jason that if he wants to do it they will have to do it together because there is no way he is letting Jason out of his sight, he made a mess!

Yes, nothing like making the lead character look incompetent at his job. Love that for Jason.

Before the team up starts Batman and Red Hood go to Leslie's place to leave Tyler with her. This is a good moment only because there is a dog involved, well…Tyler, Jason and a dog are involved, best panel in the whole issue? I think yes.

Maybe I have a couple more panels that are my favs in this issue, here they are, a lil bit of positivity in this extra bitter post.

Now I will be honest, I hate Batman (Bruce’s Batman, love Dick Bats he was the MVP) so him saying that he is helping a Robin makes me want to shoot him. You are not helping; you are overtaking, as you do. Never a team player, the Batgod must always be the center of the show.

Back in the new cave Bruce talks to Jason about the drug and who he thinks might be behind it's production. He also makes sure to let Jason know that he is very smart and might be the only person outside of Crane's circle that knows how analyze a very unstable compound…weird flex but okay. He also teases Jason about his detective skills. Yay.

Flashback time! Get ready!

Robin Jason and Batman are at a crime scene and Jason doesn’t seem to be in the mood to play CSI: Gotham with Bruce.

At one moment Jason says “and then we will stomp the guy who did this” (“this” being murder), which makes Jim Gordon (who came to see if batman was done playing Sherlock Holmes) uncomfortable, so Batman tells Jason to wait for him. As Jason is going he sees someone acting suspicious.

Back to present day Batman and Red Hood are visiting the woman that created the compound that makes Fear Gas, the interrogation starts well but because this is the Batman show and Jason is bad at reading people and asking questions we have a scene that shows Jason being a bit too much.

I honestly thought that the first question was fair, but then after they leave the office they were in Batman basically goes on a rant about the things that Jason missed.

Ok, I get it Batman = good vigilante. Red Hood = Incompetent.

Zdarsky is honestly trying to make us believe that Jason hasn’t picked up any of those things, in his years as Robin with Batman AND Nightwing? They both taught him, there is no way Jason doesn’t know the basics of how to read people. Also do you guys remember Jason in UtRH and Lost Days? That guy read people perfectly, how is UtRH canon in this story, did Jason lose his skills in the explosion when he blew up the Joker?

As if that wasn’t enough Batman calls Red Hood reckless after they don’t agree on what to do next.

To this I say the following: Never again make me believe that Jason will willingly work with Batman. They don’t work together and neither are willing to meet each other halfway, even less let the other lead. This makes the idea of Jason following the Bat’s rules and him being part of the “Batfamily” the joke that it actually is.

They don’t work well together anymore; bring duality back to Gotham 2021.

Back in the past where the previous flashback is resumed we have Jim telling Batman that the new Robin seems a bit too rough around the edges. Did Jim ever meet Dick as Robin? I mean, don’t get me wrong, Dick was a sweetheart but he also beat criminals alongside batman every night. It just doesn’t feel like what Jason said was that much of a violent statement or anything, maybe I just don’t get it.

But don’t worry if you don’t get it, because we are shown Robin Jason going after that suspicious man, he is beating him asking if he knows anything about the murder or what exactly he was doing so close to the crime scene when Batman arrives. Through Batman we are told that that man was no longer a criminal, to which Jason says this, “…The guy is a jewel thief! He will always be a thief” and Batman responds “I refuse to believe that. Didn’t I meet you in the middle of stealing the Batmobile’s tires?”

I can’t believe Bruce went full “It’s over Jason. I have the moral high ground” on Robin Jason.

I mean Jason is OOC, we know this, but he has to be that way in order to make Batman look better when compared to a child. DC hates Jason Todd #Confirmed.

It kinda reminds me of that thing DC does with Dick and Barbara, Dick is skilled and smart as long as Barbara isn’t in the room, if she is then Dick will forget to check if there is someone inside his apartment and then be thrown across the room by her and then be told that he sucks at putting security in his living space.

Moving on...back to the present one last time Jason is interrogating a man while he dangles him from the edge of a building (did Dick teach him that? I bet he did.) After getting some information he calls Oracle so he can make sure that the place he is going to is safe. Oracle tells him the she will help him but she did not like the fact that the last time she helped him someone ended up dead.

Now, fair warning, Barbara and Jason big NO for me and after Geoff Johns and his antics in Three Jokers I have zero love for their “team-ups”.

Jason says this, 

Believing in him? Excuse me? Chonky, baby, she only helped you find a building.

All I can do at this point is pray to whichever god or whoever hears that this does not lead to Jason pinning for Barbara. We don’t need it (Barbara doesnt need it), I might be overreacting, I hope I am, but nobody wants that kind of drama right now, thanks.

When he arrives to the place he was looking for I think everyone can tell that it’s a trap, everyone but Jason apparently. 

How on earth does Jason not realize it’s a trap up until it’s too late? Are you joking? Is this a Red Hood story? Are we really doing this? Just how incompetent is Jason in Zdarsky’s eyes?

Freeze…is it Freeze? I don’t care but he is there, he freezes Jason and that’s the end of the issue.

Listen, I wish I could say that this is the worst Jason has been treated and that this book is horrible, I wish but I can’t. I can’t do it because this isn’t the worst characterization or book of Jason, this is still a pretty good story, could it be better? Yes.

I mean this story is written by someone who obviously doesn’t know Jason and that sucks but it still isnt the worst characterization and it messes me up. Three Jokers was worse than this, certain plot decisions in Future State: Red Hood were worse than this (in my opinion) and Lobdell’s New52 RHatO was pure trash (that is the worst book, just horrible please dont read it). 

I am saying this only to make it clear that even tho this issue was painful (mostly if you don’t like Batman) I still have hope that it can turn out to be good. I cant help it, i want and need this story to be good and there is still time for it to get better.

2. are we sure the art team on lo actually likes it tho bc i see the current art and it looks like a hot mess. tho maybe thats just bc the sketches arent good and her instructions arent clear? idk i would think putting the best product forward esp on a work i like would be better than having it be so rushed and kinda bad?? her name is the only one who is on it at the end of the day so i guess they really have no reason to make it look good when she takes the credit for it.

3. also like ... of course rachel can (supposedly) crank out a panel in 30 minutes, its HER style and SHE knows what she wants, but the team, especially a newbie, DOESNT, so how could they know what exact time saving tricks she uses or her work flow? theres so many factors that go into pay and shes to be basing it off herself, as opposed to the differences in her assistants and the fact it has to be done in a small amount of time. also kinda weird none of her team seems to be long-term but 🤷🏿

4. girl, her last two editors QUIT webtoons after working with rachel, despite them even getting promotions. that on top of the high turnover rate in her art team is a bit concerning, ngl.

5. i dont think rachel was being malicious, but i do think she was aware she was underpaying for the amount of work she was asking for, because turning off comments and replies pretty much immediately gives that away, as well as going through her social media accounts instead of actual artist networks of which there are countless avenues to do so (including through webtoons itself). i dont think shes evil for it, but it seems more a case of being careless over being fair, IMHO.

6. i just wanna talk about that one art assistant rachel had in 2019(?) that literally drew LO porn and that was like, the only one she actually promoted. what a weird summer that was.

FP// I also found it very forced to now say Hades is actually the father figure to Thanatos because we saw since Than's first intro Hades belittled him, and Than p obvs didn't like or respect him and it's so like I get it's put in to try and justify Hades' favoritism towards Persephone (which is dumb) but its done so poorly and only makes Hades look worse. Also it implies he'd be a terrible father if when taking care of a child he just makes them a servant then treats them terribly as an adult.

I did a list about couples that I ship and I’m mad about them not ending up together and when I was thinking about couples from shows that I love I thought about glee… but the thing is I couldn’t pick 1 couple to write down bc 1) I’m not super mad at the final and 2)I kinda ship everyone

1) controversial bc of the characters but hate the actors no the characters

Rachel & Puck

I feel like this is controversial bc the characters were also controversial, like not everyone likes them… and the actors don’t do much help (also Finn)

But I love them so much, that episode of season 1 in which they dated it’s one of my favorite episodes ever, I feel like they did them dirty they deserved a longer relationship their dynamic was 👌. I usually don’t like the bad boy/popular guy x nerd/weird girl but they had so much chemistry and it was underused horribly (and when I started watching the showing knowing about Corey)Finn and I found out they dated I was like “omg pls tell me they reconnect afterwards when theyre both grieving and they helped eachother” but that didn’t happen... so wasted plot that makes me mad it is! Also bc one of the reasons why they werent together was Finn.. so why not be together when Finn was gone? idk, It also kinda hurts how they errased their friendship after season 3, like youre telling me Puck didnt go to Rachel as soon as he found out about Finn? (Also what was that ily at the season 3 finale? They did nothing with it)

I also love Rachel and Jesse (more than I liked her and Finn) so I’m not mad about them being endgame, they’re cute too

2)Quinn and Joe

When I said I ship everyone with everyone I meant I ship Quinn.. with everyone

(Now thing is if there’s a couple I’m not fond of being endgame it’s Quinn and Puck, I think they had chemistry with so many other characters but 0 chemistry with eachother, I don’t buy they liked eachother, I never liked them, it felt always forced and they just didn’t seem compatible, I just don’t like them)

But… if there’s someone that stood up for me out of all of Quinn’s romantic interests, it was Joe...

I felt he was perfect for her, he was younger but more mature that most of the other glee guys, he had similar beliefs, he was sweet and pure and just so attentive I feel he balanced Quinn amazingly, sadly they relationship stared and ended just like that and even tho Joe came back for the finale they just ignored him like they did through all of season 4 (I get Ryan Murphy’s purpose was never to give Quinn the happy ending she deserved)

3) i would call this super controversial

It’s Sam and Brittany

I feel like sometimes he was better for her than Santana, shoot me (I feel like she wasn’t tolerant enough with Brittany sometimes or just treated her poorly)

They were super cute and fun, Sam is super nice guy, Brittany is a super nice girl, they were kinda marked as dumb and I felt they understood each other and were just happy in each other’s presence, basically the only good thing of that cursed sh00ting episode was them… also them getting married bc they thought the world was ending was hilarious to me

4)Santana and Quinn

I gotta admit I’m not the biggest Santana fan but I loved her in that wedding episode I felt like she and Quinn together just made sense and maybe they fit together better that her and Brittany (I always liked Brittana but never really shipped them)

5) Jake and Marley

They were cute together, much better than her and Ryder, then making him cheat on her was such bullshit I just pretend it never happened and that they reconnected off camera and are living happily together

6)Sam and Quinn

I feel like they screwed them both at the end and idk why didn’t just make them cannon off camera and hint they were together at the finale and I would’ve been extremely happy + both of them were more mature in season 6 and it would be perfect timing for them to reconnect and start again, have a healthier relationship

You keep insisting that the ending Naruto pairings are the reason Boruto's sales are nowhere near as great as Naruto's, yet how come Boruto Naruto the Movie has brought in far more income than both RTN and The last combined? The Boruto Movie has gained almost 40.000.000$ while The Last only 20.000.000$ and RTN only around 17.000.000$. The reasons boruto is not as popular as naruto was is because the plot sucks, the anime has too many garbage fillers, the artstyle in the manga sucks, the new gen characters suck, and the manga wasn't even written by Kishimoto until recently. It has nothing to do with pairings. Hell, if NS became canon, people would've hated it even more, considering how hated Sakura was, and you even admitted she is the most hated character. And you also contradict yourself. First you say she's the most hated, then you say SP missed a marketing opportunity with her... like girl make up your mind? She's the most hated character in the franchize, in a poll she was chosen as the most hated by both male and female, even Kishimoto went out of his way to say girls came at him and said how much they despised Sakura, most people don't give a shit about her, using her as marketing strategy would've done more harm than good. She's even more hated in Japan and other Asian fandoms than she is in the western fandom, and that already says a lot! You're really arrogant to assume that the "silent majority" you speak of are all NaruSaku fans. I guarantee you it isn't. In fact, most people don't even care about ships that much. Just because you saw some asks of mine here on Tumblr, you just throw these things around, like this is the only place I talk about the story of Naruto and this is the only aspect I do.

Yes, here on Tumblr I might do it through the virtue of the asks I receive, but that doesn't mean it's the only space I address these matters.

I have other social media channels as well where I discuss other aspects as well. Ya know, how like Boruto is nothing more than a tweaked "cooler" wanna-be version of Naruto, with no real substance whatsoever, a story that doesn't truly leaves a message behind, a morale, with characters that are the shells of their former selves or mechanics that are skewed and "free of" any logic.

But sure, make it as if that's the only aspect I talk about if that makes you sleep well at night.

As for the reason Boruto made so much? Well, I'll tell you why: because it had NaruSasu. Because they knew they messed-up with The Last, so they did the next best thing they could to try and keep the fanbase engaged.

Focused on the biggest portion of the fanbase that gathered around both shippers and non shippers by the virtue of focusing on Sasuke and Naruto and their offsprings. You know why? Because this way they catered to two human emotions: familiarity/comfort & curiosity.

Aka familiarity via having NaruSasu and curiosity to see the new gen kids.

Which yes, had momentum and seemed to have a perfect recipe: no focus on the ships that initially brought he whole mess (Sakura and Hinata were close to non-existent in that movie), and "repaying" the fanbase that was initially pissed at the fact that people thought this was gonna be a T7 movie because of the heavy Kakashi and Ssuke advertisement when they were there to be found for onlyyy few seconds, lol.

But you see, in the test of time, Boruto failed because of the aforementioned reasons.

You say that people would've hated the ending if NS would've been canon, yet curiously enough the number of people that are even non shippers and agree to the idea that NS should've been canon has been increasing over the years. Which in a really curious way was surprising to me too as an NS fan that returned to the fandom after so long.

So you see, I am not sure exactly about that aspect there. Not to mention, since when does a story has to do what the fanbase dictates it? The story should follow its course and intended narration and that's that.

Yes, Sakura was hated, but that's not a reason to not have Naruto end-up with her because within the story mechanics we had many proofs that indicated that they should've ended together, regardless of how people felt about them.

Kishimoto didn't say girls came at him, he said girls sent him letters, which are two different things, because to his face no one truly said that, minus the editors who kept pushing Hinata forward and their bias as well.

Lol at you saying that using her as a marketing strategy would've done more harm than good when she's the only female character being marketed right now via figurines and all those other things.

Which btw, you say that it wasn't a big deal, yet it was the no. plot included within the story, being presented as early as chapter 3, because chapter 1 and 2 revolved around Naruto wanting to become Hokage for people to acknowledge him and create bonds.

You say that the pairings aren't such a big deal in the fandom, yet guess what, SJ and SP directed a movie on that specific subject. Makes you wonder why now, doesn't it?

And it's a normal aspect to care about if you think about it for a manga that has been focused on BONDS. The romantic plot gets weaved in within the one about bonds really easily, because at the core of it it's about relationships.

And this whole world that we live it it's a relationship: between the body and the spirit, between then heaven and the earth, between friends, between relatives. EVERYTHING IN THIS WORLD HAS A RELATIONSHIP BASIS: atom interacts with atom and here we are, living, breathing beings.

But sure, come to me and paint me in this way you're trying as if talking about relationships and their quality is a bad thing.
