we don't talk about it enough but duck and billy's relationship in amnesty is truly a tragic one.
imagine: you rescue a mindless drone. you save his life, you give him autonomy, you give him language. you teach him trust. you protect him at your own expense. you name him billy. he knows three words in your language, and one is your name. you promise to keep him safe, and he betrays his programming to help you in return. he defies everything he was designed to do in order to aid you.
you save him from being a drone, but in doing so, you kill him. he was never supposed to be here this long. you gave him freedom at the cost of rapid decay, and now he's dying. and if he could just go back to his home planet, he would live, but he doesn't want to. because you're here. duck newton, his first friend, his savior, his guardian. you showed him that there is a better way to live - with free will, with pizza and playstations.
he's damned if he stays and damned if he goes. but you can't watch him suffer. that's not who you are. you're duck newton, local beefcake, defender of the disadvantaged. so you wait until he's engrossed in his video game - in humanity, in freedom of choice - and you strike him down out of mercy.
billy reverts to his original form: a four-armed being of light, once a drone, now a friend. he's beginning to disintegrate, but he has unfinished business here. he never finished his video game. and you give him one last gift of mercy: you lie to him. don't worry, you tell him - that character you're worried about? she's fine in the end. no, i know it seems bleak now, but she turns out okay.
you can't give him anything else, so you give him hope. it's the same thing he gave to you, all those months ago when you saved him.

After the events of season four in a world where Vecna dies a minute earlier, Eddie lives, and Max gets away with a broken arm and some vision loss, Nancy and Steve start spending a lot of time together.
Everyone assumes that since Nancy and Johnathan broke it off not long after they reunited, having found themselves on different paths, the two of them were naturally drifting back together. Some of the kids are even betting among themselves on whether or not they're actually already back together and trying to keep in on the down low while everyone heals.
What really happened was that Nancy showed up on Steve's doorstep one day and asked if she could come in. She was nervous and it showed in the way she pinched her brow and rubbed her intex finger over her thumb nail but still made direct, almost aggressive eye contact with the man in front of her. Steve was worried that she was, indeed, here to confess which...wouldn't have been the worst thing, just not the right thing.
Instead what she says, directly and to the point despite her nerves, is that she's sorry if she led him on during their last time in the Upsidedown. She tells him that while she did feel a remnant of that old flame between them, it was ultimately a flicker in comparison to the forest fire of complicated emotions building up inside her for someone completely new. Someone completely unexpected. She looks genuinely mournful for having to tell him this, but all Steve can really feel is relief.
Steve had felt it too, and for a moment there it had really felt like their time had finally come. It felt like all the hurting and the fighting and the miscommunications and the missed chances were all leading them to this climactic moment during their last stand where they could begin their epic love story all over again. But then suddenly all he could think about between the blood and fear was eyes deep and dark like the forest floor after a long rain and the fleeting feeling of cool silver on his sore shoulders. He tells her that it's ok because he found someone new and unexpected too.
After that night they find a new kind of kinship that they always reached for but never could attain with all the history between them. They start meeting up as often as they can for late-night talks. Once Steve returns from his work at the shelter and visiting Eddie in the hospital and Nancy's parents come back to relieve her of babysitting duties while they help rebuild the town they meet at Steve's house. They avoid the back patio at all costs, instead deciding to set up lawn chairs out front to face the empty street, all of Steve's neighbors having fled with the first tremors.
They drink and talk for hours about all the mistakes they made, apologizing for all the ways they hurt each other in their youth in the days when they knew how to hurt but not how to heal. They talk about the life they could have had if things had been different. They talk about jobs and white picket fences and children and all the ways they would have been happy but not content. It should be awkward, and sad, and uncomfortable. And it is. But more than that it's cathartic, and by the end they are closer than they've ever been and fully ready to move onto the next phases of their lives as close friends.
They also spend quite a bit of time after the heaviest topics have run their course trying to help each other woo their respective crushes. Robin came out to the group not long after Will returned. She decided that it was time for her to claim the "most coveted of all Queer positions, Steve. The Queer Mentor!" and that being in the closet with their friends was antithetical to her cause. Steve argued that he was her first pupil already, but she claimed that his gay crisis was so minuscule that it hardly deserved the name. He came out a fully formed bisexual man. Steve wasn't 100% sure about Eddie, but there were enough rumors about him that he felt comfortable at least shooting his shot. Eddie was a good guy and he was so happy when Robin came to his room to share her coming out with him since he'd missed the bigger announcement.
All that is to say that they were both ready and willing to start pursuing their respective targets. They made game plans and tried to come up with date-but-not-really-a-date ideas for them to test the waters.
Meanwhile, Eddie and Robin both separately decide that they need to help push Nancy and Steve into the relationship everyone sees on the horizon. Steve is and always will be Robin's number one and she knows better than anybody how hung up he was on Nancy for literal years. She knows they hang out just the two of them and despite Steve dodging her attempts to figure out what it is they meet up about if they're not already together, she's pretty sure they're just taking things slow. The fact that her tummy feels all warm whenever Nancy Wheeler walks into the room is inconsequential to her far greater goal of Make Steve Happy. It sure would help if she would stop looking up at Robin from beneath her lashes like that though. Those eyes are killer.
Eddie, on the other hand, has felt some kind of way about Steve for the entirety of their not-quite acquaintance. It began with a sweet crush in grade school that developed into spiteful teenage lust and then back into a less sweet but much more robust crush following the not-so-end of the world. But all of those feelings are null and void in the face of the rapidly approaching epilogue of Steve and Nancy's epic si-fy/fantasy romance. He saw the way they looked at each other on their journey and he meant it when he said what Nancy had done jumping in that lake was a show of love. It feels almost poetic that he ended up doing the same thing, just a little too late to really matter. But despite the way Steve's visits seem to soothe the ache in his bones better than any opioid or cold compress, Eddie is going to do his damnedest to lead those two sheep in the right direction. It would be a heck of a lot easier if Steve could pick a shirt to wear in his own damn size, though. Those arms really were begging for release.
#blah blah blah#you know how it goes#I am once again asking#is this anything?#Thinking about Steve and Nancy hours#will I ever ship stancy?#no#but i love their story#and I think they deserve to let it go#steddie#ronance#robin buckley#steve harrington#eddie munson#dreamer speaks#fanfiction#plot bunny#left out the funny part of this#where eddie is pushing nancy toward Steve#and Robin is pushing Steve toward Nancy#and Nancy isn't telling Steve what Eddie is doing#because she doesn't want to discourage him#and Steve isn't telling Nancy what Robin is doing#for the same reason#and Robin and Eddie are talking a lot#just never about their crushes#and it's all one big funny mess

i saw a thing where it's Aaron cheating on Katelyn with Kevin and i propose a better idea. Katelyn and Aaron in an open relationship and Katelyn is hooking up with Kevin but she hasn't told Aaron yet bc she's worried bc Kevin is Aaron's best friend and she's trying to find the right moment but every time she tries something happens and she has to postpone. meanwhile Aaron is also hooking up with Kevin and knows Katelyn is too. he just assumed they both knew this and just didn't talk about it
#i feel like this could end up either with the typical confession#where Katelyn tells Aaron and Aaron is like yeah? i know?#or Kevin is like why dont we all meet up together the three of us#and Katelyn is freaking out bc she hadn't told Aaron yet#and Aaron is like yeah that'd be fun#idk im not good at plot or anything#but ive been thinking about this#kinda throwing the miscommunication trope into a polyamorous relationship without cheating#bc i hate the cheating trope#kevaaron#kevin day#aaron minyard#katelyn mackenzie#idk any of the other ship names#if they have any#im imagining this scenario in like a sitcom type situation btw#katekevaaron

@kittylordinfinity it's really interesting to look at modelland from a perspective of gender roles. I've not read any reviews or deeply dives into the book yet but I definitely wonder how people talk about it (If at all?) bc.... like everything in modelland its Weird, but the role of gender and gender roles is still pervasive. It's also further tied to biological sex repeatedly (can't exactly be surprised by that one)
Bc I'm meant to be working on this rn I'm just gonna share some bits from my WIP review

(It's photos of my laptop bc there's no WiFi in the cafe I am meant to be working in)
And a bit later more thoughts based on the role of men in book/society:

I always feel like I'm talking nonsense but... yeah. It's Interesting how womanhood is treated by modelland especially in context of its worldbuilding (and removed from it).
#like everything it reveals a lot by not intending to say anything at all#i avoided specifying examples of men in the plot but im especially talking abour the climax#yes its mostly about belladonna amd creamy relatio ship breaking down but exclusively over a man and just#jealousy over being desireable to the man. jealousy in general.#belladonna had no trust in her man yet fully conflict over him ruins everyones lives its this Incredible Importance on a man#so important he isnt even a character or matters yet is this prop with a dominating presense.#modelland#basically. weird. very gender essentialist

In love with the idea of captain marvel being Billy's imaginary friend. Like, it'd be so easy. Early depictions had them as almost fully separate people sometimes, like one soul with two minds, rather than just two filters like we mostly see now.
But imagine a Billy down on his luck, hurt and hiding from police and criminals alike, daydreaming the hours away as children do, taking inspiration from all the superheroes rising to fame, making little stories to play out his dreams of saving the world with a generic action doll he found while dumpster diving once. Most of the paint's rubbed off.
Red's his favourite colour, his comfiest jumper is a bright ruby even after all the grime and washes. Gold, too, it's shiny and warmer than silver! A hero cape is a must, big and eye catching! And he can fly, of course, like superman, and in his daydreams, when he's sore and frustrated after a long day's grind, his superhero is smart enough and knows all the right words to get the bullies to stop without resorting to fighting.
His superhero fantasy is one he spends a lot of time on, the first one he goes for when struggling to sleep at night, and he can picture it so clearly. Captain marvel is big and bright and kind, strong enough to lift the boxes for the old lady up the road who's moving all by himself, fast enough to catch Jamie who fell out of the tree on Saturday and broke his leg and couldn't come to class for weeks. He appears at the entrance to alleys when Billy is cornered, he steps up behind to cover for him when he gets caught shoplifting, he sits at the bus stop with him when it's pouring rain and the right bus doesn't seem to be coming.
And then the wizard comes, or rather whisks him away, and like a magician from a fairytale breathes life into his imaginary friend until Billy feels thrice his size and a million times more invincible.
From then on, captain marvel is a real hero, just like Billy is a real boy, and as one they save the whole city, and then the whole world, and get cats down from trees and help Mrs Victoria move the last of her boxes and she gives them a pinch in the cheek and cookies for the road and sometimes it hurts but it's so much better than he imagined.
#dc comics#captain marvel#dc captain marvel#shazam#billy batson#imaginary friend#imaginary friend au#Billy's great because you can give him the most buck wild adventures with the most self indulgent plots and it makes perfect sense#Batman and superman are out here having mental health crisis no.528 and marvels away having dance offs with gnomes#Billy would fit perfectly into gravity falls he really would#Anyway imaginary friend au is near and dear because it encapsulates that sort of safe fantasy for change and companion ship#And a protective imaginary friend brought to life is going to be just a fascinating character no matter what#And it's the perfect cover for non imaginary cap anyway. Why does he prioritise this kid over everything despite having never mentioned him#Imaginary friends always have to care for their creator! But you can't expect an imaginary friend to do your taxes!#Why is cap so eternally kind and bubbly and a bit childish? That's because his creator is a kid! Duh!#This particular imaginary friend just so happens to have encountered magic and is now real enough to play basketball with asteroids.#He's strong enough to match superman but it's fine he's got a child's heart and an unending protectiveness for humanity.#Just don't try anything with the kid or you're toast.#I love the jl needing to save/help Billy in some way and cap; who's practically the jls puppy mascot at this point#Is just shamelessly and unrepentantly possessive of Billy while being openly wrapped around his finger. Number one fan#Like 'he's the specialist boy and if you don't clap for him I'm going to blow this whole building up' type#Have you read Split on ao3 it's like that. Cap is the most unaffiliated person on the team and then bam Billy is number 1 priority 100%#Go read split if you haven't 10/10#Like it never crosses caps mind to hinder or harm Billy he is Devoted. Platonic God/worshipper except the deity in question is an 11yo#And the worshipper is the closest thing to a deity without being one you can get in dc.#But like a healthy relationship lmao.#It's a soul deep claim with total freedom on both sides and they teach each other love and they're the same person#AUGH

Do you guys understand how objectively hilarious it would be if Krerdly turns out to be canon. It would legit be the funniest thing to happen in Deltarune, bar none
#what would be even more hilarious is if it has absolutely zero relevance to the plot and is completely arbitrary to anything that happens#down the line#like oh yeah Kris is the Knight (assuming that they are although i dont actually think so) and this is their boyfriend Berdly btw say hi#funniest shit ever#sorry for the delushions on a random wednesday bros i got hit with the Deltarune/Krerdly ray again 😔#Krerdly#Berdkris#Krispy Chicken#? i think#i dont know all the ship names they got dog 😭#also not putting this in main tag as to not get ripped apart by the wolves

Calling all Dair shippers!!!!!
I want to start reading fan fiction of them, but I have no idea where to begin.
My only requirements are that it's in English (why must you be the only language my stupid brain could leadn), is an AU and that (while I don't mind if he shows up) Chuck doesn't get any kind of a redemption arc like if he's in the story I want the narative to treat him like the villain he is (the same with Louie tbh but I'm guessing he dosn't get much focus).
I would also prefer it if it took place when they're adults (but I'm willing to give fics of them getting together sooner a try).
So, if you know of any fics that fit that description, please leave your recommendations in the comments.

So in replies to this I've made I think some big brain connections?? The constant associations with the sun and Louis is really working and gelling in my brain especially with the finale moments of s2.
The 'sun king' thing is very reminiscent of the actual sun king of history Louis xiv, and the way he constructed his daily life like it was theatre. The way meals are served the way they are, and everything feels very rehearsed and scheduled. The fact said historical figure lived for 77 years, as did his relationship with Armand. He's not this historical figure though - hint budge wink nod, he cant be the ones Armand wants him to be, including the same Louis he used to love - he's our Louis. And he's not been allowed to fully be himself in this environment where it's been largely fake and manipulative. (Again to the point of Louis XIV, the theatrics were established to protect him and make it plainly aware of his position as king. But there was a common conception that whoever was closest to the king - typically the king's mistress. Controlled the king. You can probably catch what I'm laying down here.)
Just also the way that when he fully has himself he has the sun, because he just is the sun in a metaphorical sense. Arriving to himself he now the light at the end of this tunnel of darkness. The literal sun still holds a deadliness to him, but it holds no power over him to walk into anymore. He doesn't miss it. If he feels an inclination to it at all it's only to prove a point. He's at a place by the end of this that he doesn't need anyone but himself, and knows it, and can finally be free from control over his person.
There's other associations with it too, like taking up photography. A medium reliant on light to do. How that doesn't pan out for him, but what does is documenting. Him, taking on a path to document, to bring about the light - the truth - hidden in the image of his memories. It's through light that he can be destroyed but it's through light that he reconciles with himself and becomes whole.
The night is all his, because he's mastered the light. He owns it.
#louis de pointe du lac#iwtv meta#interview with the vampire#amc iwtv#iwtv spoilers#iwtv#Louis the character of all time#everything ultimately revolves around him but also everything really goes back to Claudia and Paul#like lol lestat wishes but he's really just being a brat about it#also the best ship is always that of self love an acceptance LOVE a personal growth plot more than anything#Writers room discussion: “Okay so like... how do we softball the obvious fact they all end up in a vampiric royal court of sorts?”#Would be 100% down for Louis to be more of a king and lestat's just the prince who gets into shit... we're NOT getting this many seasons th#yeah I don't predict it happening.

seeing "i dont think anyone would be so devoted unless theyre romantically interested" and im just. this is literally a show all about platonic love??? oh to destroy amatonormativity....
#neno blabs about ships#sorta cos not saying anything specific#'why would anyone do that for a friend' y'all need to be enlightened by the power of friendship god dammit#(and again its funny cos ironically romance in this show tends to be played off as kinda shallow lol)#(tbh a lot of media is like that too with 'crushes/love interests of the week' being a thing that doesnt matter in the long run)#this following tangent not being about the show anymore but#seeing folks get mad at someone pointing out 'hey its kinda weird that in this large movie cast theres literally no women'#and the responses are like 'well duh!!! we dont want any romantic distractions in this horror flick!!!'#and im just screaming in 'women just being seen as romantic props/plots and not as people'#anyway know that im normally ship brained but theres something about the trend of folks#devaluing all other sorta relationships that particularly pisses me off with this fandom#probably because the literal heart of the show is a lonely grunkle and his growing love for his grand niblings#also him flat out gambling his life and risking the entire world for the chance to save his brother

I will probably be burned at the stake for this but I hate how popular ships in fandoms (ESPECIALLY here) are always based on WhO'S tHe MOsT QuEeRCoDEd iN CanOn and not on whether the ship is actually. good. I won't deny that a lot of these popular ships are good and it would be fine if they didn't become the literal fanon norm and every time someone has other ships for the characters or god forbid, doesn't like the ship, everyone goes "we totally respect your opinion and all but they're literally so gay how can you not see how gay they are you dumbfuck-"
#based on true stories#also this post is about farcille#i'm sorry y'all but they're like a ryuji situation to me#a ryuji situation is when i don't dislike the thing but seeing how overrated it is imo and the fandom's interpretation makes me hate it#and i do not like around 80% of the farcille content i see#i don't like marcille being dummed down into a dumb simp#and for falin people are filling in the blanks for a character that barely exists for most of the plot she's either dead or in beast mode#but it's mostly that i hate marcille being a drooling simp and it's weird to me because she literally says she still sees falin as young#tbf i don't really like any of the ships in dungeon meshi if anything farcille is my favorite by default#i like it when marcille isn't a dumb simp#dunmesh just isn't a very shippable fandom to me#lukas rants#hila has spoken

jeremy/andrew meet-ugly(?) where they meet because andrew likes to smoke while leaning over the edge of tall buildings (not because he's thinking of jumping or anything) and jeremy is hypervigilant about people on rooftops and barges up there with the thought of stopping andrew from jumping. and they end up hitting it off
#sorry i just reread this and i realize it could sound like quite a serious and dramatic plot#but in my mind#it's kind of a black comedy where they end up bonding over trauma/brother problems/addictions/homosexuality/cigarettes#and they end up fucking on the roof and jeremy goes away thinking#ok fucking a stranger i just met on a rooftop is not one of my best moments but...if i managed to fuck him into not jumping...#...that's alright. right? oh oh no...that might be worse...#meanwhile andrew was just having a pretty normal day of being lost in his thoughts on a roof and not thinking of jumping at all#when some hot guy shows up on the roof to chat him up and ask him for a smoke and he seems like a decent guy.#a few screws loose. but wtf it's not as if andrew had anything better to do that day#kind of a comedy of errors#i'm sorry i just really want to put jeremy into a comedy of errors situation#tgr spoilers#aftg#andrew/jeremy#i didn't expect to come out of tgr with the andrew/jeremy ship but here we are

richard writing out annabeth’s crush on luke in spite of it being a major influence in several relationship dynamics and the plot of the story itself just because he’s worried it’s “problematic” for a girl to have a crush on an older camp counselor (hint: it’s not!) is my villain origin story
#this isn’t me being like wahh ship content like yes i love darkfic as much as the next guy but this is me being pissed about the plot#you took dynamics out and didn’t put anything back in! you sucked it dry like a lemon!!#pjo show crit#pjo

“requiem for methuselah” crazy ass episode for many reasons. Kirk is being fully insane, like I don’t actually think, even controlling for how quickly and easily and readily he seems to fall in love with anybody at the slightest encouragement, that he’d go that bonkers for that android woman he just met while everyone on the ship was this close to dying, but that’s neither here nor there, because in the background you’ve got an equally but much more subtly insane episode for Spock, who extremely uncharacteristically admits to experiencing an emotion (or nearly experiencing, whatever) and that emotion is ENVY of all things. And then spends the rest of the episode warning Kirk away from this new love interest (something that doesn’t usually happen, even when Kirk has very inadvisable love interests) and is, in the end, the person who accurately identifies that Rayna’s competing love for Kirk and Flint is ultimately what overwhelms and destroys her with the most killer line in maybe history???
And then to wrap it up we get an equally uncharacteristic sort of denouement scene (TOS loooves to cut an episode off right after the actual climax, leaving little time for falling action or character reflection, or to stick a sitcom-y button on the end where the gang all smiles and laughs at their misadventures and everything resets to zero, which is not a criticism, it’s just the style of that era of tv, honestly) where Kirk is literally miserable over Rayna’s death (again, kind of unusual for a lot of his love interests, he tends to be able to move on pretty quickly) and Spock goes to see him and he falls asleep right in front of Spock (also odd) and then when Bones comes in to give the final word on Flint, Spock waves him off from waking the Captain (tender) and Bones gives him that awful speech about how it’s sadder that Spock can’t even imagine the love Kirk felt for this random android woman than it is that Kirk lost her in the first place (debatable but also rude) and how his great tragedy is that he can’t love at all like they can and how all he wishes is that Kirk could forget about all of this and move on. AND THEN, to have Bones leave and Spock go over to Kirk and very gently, tenderly, reluctantly touch him and put his hand to his forehead and tell him to forget and HAVE THAT BE THE END OF THE EPISODE??? What am I supposed to do with that??
#‘the joys of love made her human. the agonies of love destroyed her’ hUH. What a cool line.#hope it doesn’t become some sort of…thesis statement for you or something SPOCK#listen my number one beef with the way they write bones is that they just make him completely mischaracterize everything to suit the plot#this man is not an idiot he KNOWS Spock has emotions and just suppresses them#you’re going to tell me he’s been on that ship with Spock for years and thinks he feels no love whatsoever for anyone???#like even after what happened in the empath and in that episode where McCoy thought he was dying#he knows Spock loves people!!! COME ON#does he really just mean romantic love?? that’s so boring WRITE HIM BETTER#also they’re banking a lot on people remembering what the Vulcan mind meld is for that last bit#like I know it comes up a lot but…this is 1968 or whatever. They don’t have this shit on dvd to rewatch#you’re counting on really dedicated fan memory here or on people catching reruns#because otherwise it just looks like Spock waiting to be alone to touch Kirk as tenderly as possible and pray he forgets this woman#truly what’s going on#anyway I kind of hated this episode#like quite frankly there was too much going on#are androids people? would Kirk fall in love that hard that quickly and choose it over the safety of his crew?#why wasnt the illness ravaging the crew a bigger deal??#they didn’t even get into WHY flint was immortal#he was just a regular human and apparently the ONLY one who was granted immortality by the earth’s atmosphere#leaving aside the very creepy and very early born sexy yesterday trope going on throughout#but it was a really good Spock episode if you just….dont look at anything else….#the writer for this one also did Day of the Dove and Mirror Mirror which explains a LOT#two other episodes that are interesting for the character dynamics but really chaotic plot wise#anyway imagine saying to Spock’s face that he has no idea what love can drive a man to do#one has to laugh#tos#star trek#as always…. I’m sorry that I’m Like This

Assumption: while you aren't against ship fics, you lean towards found family dynamics more often, with shipping and romance as background/afterthoughts.
True - tho it does sometimes depend on the fandom for the most part yeah I like the relationship to be in the background or atleast not the main focus
#ask#anon#even when i do read a ship centric fic im more there for the drama then the couple actually getting together#its why i usually find myself skipping the ending#and sex scenes im just not interested in that bit#ill literally just read the dialogues to see if anything plot important is being said
