Dropping Byler Evidence Every (Other) Day Until Season 5

Something that a lot of bylers have noticed is that Mike uses an especially soft and caring voice to talk to Will. Even when he's angry at him, he's somewhat softer with him than other people. This isn't just some biased view - it's super clear when you compare how he talks to Will to how he talks to others, even El sometimes.

But this isn't a phenomenon that Bylers just made up.

Mike is often characterised as being an asshole, seen this way by a vast number of people in the general audience. They wish that Mike cold go back to the way he was in S2! Which I always found interesting -- the reason why a lot of people feel that he is out of character is largely due to the way that he acts around El and Will. It's not really got to do with any other characters. In fact, he's always been a bit bitchy towards Max and his parents and his sister, but no one got mad at him for that.

However, when he began to act differently toward Will and El in S3, that's when a lot more people began to say that he was out of character. The main difference between S2 and S3 + 4 is the fact that when Mike is not in a relationship with El or believes he isn't (like in S2 when he's comforting Will and in S4 when they're in his bedroom).

Now what does this mean for the Will voice? Well, the only indication that people get that he's kind to Will in S2 and S1 in particular is really down to the Will Voice. If it didn't exist during those crucial comforting scenes, and Finn just used his normal voice, they would not meet the same emotional marks that they need to. And it's super clear that he acts this way around Will and only him.

The writers/directors want Mike to show this vulnerable side of himself to Will for one simple reason -- to build romantic chemistry.

The Will Voice is just another one of those things to add to the pile of what makes Byler a believable pairing and what makes it believable that Will loves Mike and vice versa. It shows that Mike can be vulnerable around Will, shows that, even when his words may not say so, his tone really does.

But what if you still view Mike's scenes with Will and his dialogue with him as something similar to how he's always talked to others? Well, look at this comparison video to see the obvious differences.

It's always been impactful that Mike is the one speaking to Will like this. He's intentionally presented as this sort of aggressive, easily provoked person, but deep down there is care and kindness inside him. This is what made him so lovable in earlier seasons and what redeems him in later ones.

And when do the writers choose to show this more lovable side of him? With Will. With the aim of showing Will as his better half, someone who brings out his good side.

But, you may argue, the writers don't know about this! It might just be down to Finn's acting!

Then why did they write this scene so that it perfectly highlights the way that Mike talks to Will vs. other people?

This scene is hard proof that the writers are aware of how Mike particularly talks to Will. When Mike is looking at him he talks this way. This scene literally shows that he got distracted by Will and is so highly focused on him that he accidentally forgets to warn everyone that Billy is about to attack.

Max literally has to ask what Mike is saying -- which is to emphasise how particularly soft-voiced he's being, and shows that Mike might even be unaware that he's being this way.

Of course, Mike yells straight after this, only when his head is finally whipped away and he stops focusing on Will. We can chalk his attitude up to him being afraid maybe. But there are so many moments in the show that have Mike showing a very loud and vocal response to being scared/ needing to alert someone. This is different.

All in all, when a character's good and kind side is brought out by another character, I'm pretty sure you're supposed to root for them as a pairing. And that's exactly what's happening here with the will voice.

Gravity falls the musical

So like for theatre I had to pitch an adaptation of a show/movie I liked so I chose this show specifically cause I have a lot of stupid ideas for this. Also I’m gonna be making a lot of other musical comparisons sorry I don’t study music

Ok so first would be like vocal ranges

Dipper- bass , i was debating this actually, I think when I think of dipper I think of Seymour from lsoh, but realistically I don’t think kids 12-13, especially dipper who there was an entire joke running about his voice cracks, has a voice that would go super high to be a tenor, so I think him being the middle ground works

Mabel - mezzo sorprano, same with dipper, I don’t think her voice would go like that”Cady from mean girls” high I think it’d be like sally bowles ish where sometimes you’ll see actresses play her with a nasally voice

Both stans are baritones this isn’t up for debate

Wendy - alto, I think alto voices are cool and I feel like a lower range just fits Wendy’s laid backness

Now for the villains I lowkey want them to have the higher vocal ranges

I think Gideon having a high voice fits the whole “town angel” thing, in fact I’d take it a step further and say for him to do a “choir voice” instead of a character voice when singing and then the second he stops singing his voice goes back to normal

Pacifica sings high in that one episode so yeah and also same as Gideon, I think the high voice fits her “celebrity” status

Now for bill it’s complicated because I think him being either a baritone or a tenor would be fun

As a baritone, you could open up the opportunities for him to be a more “Audrey 2” Mr genie type of character

But higher voices just sound more supernatural to me and I think it could create a super cool effect if you were to make him sing with other characters

Something SUPER unnecessary you could do is the actor for bill changes depending on who he’s talking to, talking to an adult? Takes the dorm of an adult, preferably one that looks like them, and then somehow with the power of tech the second the deal is sealed he switches back

I think it’d be cool if each character had their own musical style and then when bill possessed or controlled them it’d sound like his music style and their voice would sound a lot like his, maybe they could do a falsetto or something

But I think it would make the musical sound very clumpy and wouldn’t work which sucks because I feel like each character is too distinct for me to fit them into one genre

I think overall a lot of the paranormal scenes can now be done with modern technology or with just cool stage tricks like for example how some productions of the Carrie musical are done with stage tricks to make the telekinesis look real

I think it’d be cool if the rift was a smoke bomb but realistically that may be a hazard and could leave a mess, but then again, I haven’t done tech since middle school so maybe there is a way to pull this off safely and I just don’t know

I’m wondering if you’d need to cut out the episodes in order to be able to fit all this into a 2 hour musical, there’s no way 40 30 minute episodes are gonna fit into a span of 2 hours and I don’t think modern audiences are gonna watch a 20 HOUR show…I’m just saying there’s episodes people wouldn’t feel sad about being excluded…(Roadside attraction)

The budget - I don’t know but it’s Disney if they can sped 200mil on live actions they can spend maybe 1mil on this musical

honestly bc i've been online for like i wanna say 17 years now and know how to avoid thing i dont wanna see, i've purposefully been avoiding any and all bucktommy spaces on here since abt 7x05's release.

(any and all overfamiliarity w actors/writers is always a red flag to me, which is why i kinda pulled out of ofmd fandom even before s2 aired really, and why spn conventions never matter to me, esp while the show was still on.) ppl were blowing the whole bucktommy relationship out of proportion when it was clearly always going to be just a temporary thing from the beginning, and i felt like i was just gonna be unnecessarily mean to ppl for pointing things out, when everybody was so fucking kumbaya "let people enjoy things" and "let ppl enjoy their ships" shebang. but things were going bad! so i pulled out.

ppl were sending hate to those who didnt like tommy and calling them homophobic and that we only dont like him bc he's "in the way" - when in reality it's bc we didnt like that the show brought back a vocally bigoted and annoying character from the past and gave him a cosmetic facelift for his personality w/out any real reckoning/attention paid to what happened back then. ALSO lfjr himself has quite a few skeletons in the closet w his weird ass instagram AND just genuinely abysmal actor/audience relationship ethics w the whole cameo thing.

furthermore, even without showing what tommy was like before (which i'm sure would have been a red flag for buck if they fucking addressed it, but they were cowards abt it - and gerard too but that's another convo,) there were so many moments that pointed towards how buck and tommy didn't fit well together (i could make a list here but i dont want to come off as more condescending than i already think i am coming off), and yet i kept seeing ppl overemphasize the parts that were good or find excuses for why the negative was actually a positive - in a v derisive way, btw. "well, in real life this would be good." "well, REAL gay ppl are like that." "well, [another character] would have said that too." all those kinds of things. and also we were somehow wrong to complain or point those things out bc again "it's abt ships" "yall are homophobic" "yall only care abt eddie"

(like i'll admit that some buddies were also reacting to things like they've never seen a temporary ship in the wild before and some were overreacting abt certain things that tommy said, but it was nowhere close. the whole fandom is fascinating to me ngl.)

AND ppl were calling buddies homophobic for merely headcanoning eddie as gay (when literally right before buck and tommy kissed buck's bisexuality was also a headcanon) just bc they felt like it was "fetishizing" to ship two friends as if male friendship is under attack (which is such a weird thing to believe in when there's no real evidence for it) all bc they felt threatened that if eddie was also gay then it there wouldn't be a reason to not somehow have buck and eddie get together. like i dont see this as anything else than defensiveness masked under desire for proper representation. SO MANY of bucktommy fans were just the same ppl who hop from one white m/m ship to another. there were so many BUDDIES that hopped over bc i guess it was just abt seeing two men kiss for them.

anyways. the vibes have been horrendous this entire summer hiatus and the past few weeks too. i am sure they would have sped up the breakup if s7 had their regular 18 instead of 10, so i almost wish they had done so so i didn't have to witness ppl create a whole world of fanfiction and develop a whole host of headcanons and hope for a future for a ship that was never going to last.

[Jan 22 to 28 ; week 4/52 || I. love. my. internship. like. I have been having the most fun time problem solving and troubleshooting. it's also super satisfying to see the outcome of my code. it's been a while since I used python (I've been coding on C) so I forget that python has a lot of inbuilt functions that would do the same tasks I inadvertently entrust my nested loops with, and finding out about them is always so joyous (although it means I have to scrap off several chunks of code). i am a bit annoyed though, because the other intern isn't really doing any work that we're entrusted with so I'm having to carry the team and it's taking me too much time. but oh well. I've suggested we split tasks from next week, hopefully that'll make things better.

I've also been procrastinating a lot when it comes to my masters applications and it really hit me this week when I had to run to uni several times to get things approved and completed. Now that I'll get to work from home I need to set up a proper schedule to get application work completed wayy in advance. also need to resume my GRE prep from next week.]

Last song: Mayan Pilot by Splashdown, one of my all-time feral obsessions, still feeling like I'm the only person on earth who (still/ever did) listen(s) to them. The vocalist, Melissa Kaplan, sang Beta's Theme in HFW and I about lost my mind when I heard it, I've been listening to her/that band since I was like 13 when they had a song on the Titan A.E. soundtrack.

Last book: Justice for Some by Noura Erakat. That was back in like...October. It was a lot, and a difficult read - not just because of the subject material, but because of its focus on legality and the use of law which made my eyes glaze over. I have a massive to-read list and really need to get back into it.

Last movie: Anora. I thought it was pretty good, it wasn't quite what I expected - I thought it was going to either be super uncomfortable or that it was gonna end up with something horrible happening like everyone dies or something - and it was neither, thankfully. It was pretty fun, I liked all the characters. I thought it was a liiiiitle condescending? At parts? The whole 'Annie vs. Anora' name gag that frames the whole story felt weird, like the movie itself was trying to 'free her from her sex worker life'. She keeps saying she prefers Annie and like...no one cares lol. Idk, it read to me very much as '...yeah but what's, like, your REAL name, babe.' Which, in a movie by a guy who's supposedly very vocally pro-sex-worker felt...weird.

Last TV show: We are currently watching Severance, and I have had to block tags about it lol. Honestly y'all, I can't believe I didn't know about this show sooner! I knew nothing about it until everyone started freaking over s2. We're on like ep...5 I think.

Last thing I Google searched: the solution to the battery puzzle in Alan Wake 2 for one of the cult stashes. That one and the 'wheels' one I look up every time, I did them the first time and that was that.

😍😍 Notebook No. 6 series (magdaliny) - 56K, stucky - incredible post-WS recovery fic - this should be a classic of the fandom, up there with infinite coffee, ithlyn and 4mw. I am changed for reading it. essentially an epistolary story, since he was writing for someone. Bucky's voice was incredible: funny and devastating, often at the same time, which felt both very real & very Jewish (complimentary). in my stucky bookclub, someone said that reading this felt like they were reading Literature and I don't disagree (esp with at least one direct allusion to Joyce's Ulysses). if you are a stucky/WS fan and haven't read this, don't wait any longer.

😊 Rear Admiral ('Nathan Burgoine) - entertaining, mostly pwp short story: "Can one average nurse and his way-more-than-average crush make it work? INTERESTS/HOBBIES!!

Aiman loves football and skateboarding, she's obsessed with them, even. Aiman especially loves football because she views it as a stress reliever, especially after arguing with her parents.

Aiman's music taste mostly consists of German rock and/or punk bands - Spermbirds, Hass, Östro 430, The Freeze, etc.

Aiman's favourite colours are camo green, rich black, and jasper (due to her bracelet).

Aiman often collects interesting things she finds along the ground, keeping them in a drawer she has by her bed for safe keeping. She is also fairly sentimental, and owns a digital camera which she often carries with her just to take pictures.

BACKSTORY!!

Aiman was born in Germany on the 17th of November 1999 (Considering the shows release in 2012, this makes her 14 in s2 and 13 in s1, I always consider different seasons separate years cause that's usually how it goes in shows..), to her parents Aysha and Erich Ebener. Since a young age, she had never been particularly vocal, and being born in a strict, hyper-religious household never helped with that.

After a freak accident in her first grade class (her being 6 at the time), involving another student and a pencil to her eye, Aiman was pulled out of school and homeschooled for majority of her life.

In 2006, Anara was born, and it was almost instantly that Airman's parents attention shifted. Due to her lack of communication, and her stunted social and emotional life (because of homeschooling), Aiman never properly learned how to treat others, her parents viewing her as a disappointment in response and hence why her younger sister gets more favour.

Aiman had always been interested in traditionally masculine sports (skateboarding, football), and had been hooked on watching it ever since she was a kid. Though, when Aiman was 8, and only just beginning to speak more, she got a skateboard for her birthday from her paternal grandfather - only for it to be thrown away after Anara got hurt playing with it. This only grew Aiman's resentment and internalised anger, causing her to grow more and more rebellious over the years.

At the age of 12, Aiman was accepted into her school's female football team, though she was kicked off only one year after for being too 'hardcore'.

(As mentioned, Aiman has a lot of internalised anger, which she gets out of her system by playing football. Since she plays striker on the field, her especially hard kicks were enough to knock the average 12-13 year old girl to the ground)

Enraged, Aiman took to the old football field in town to blow off steam. This is where she met the wild gang.. Yippee!!

the best jazz singer of all time in my opinion is ella fitzgerald, she is truly unbeatable! this is my vocal jazz playlist

my top 5 on spotify were tswift, sabrina carpenter, ella fitzgerald, the beatles, and amy winehouse (it's honestly usually some combination of those). my pop princess favs are taylor, sabrina, olivia, and chappell. i have this playlist called pop perfection. my fav underrated pop singers are ashe and maude latour at the moment.

i also have this playlist called songs with killer lyrics that i listen to a lot. i basically worship leonard cohen.

anyways! favorite fandoms. at the moment i'm super into yellowjackets, and i specifically am obsessed w jackie/shauna. i'm always into doctor who, and rose tyler is my character of all time. i got really really into the homoerotic masterpiece that is hbo hacks. i watched normal people and fleabag this year and really loved both of those shows. i'm really enjoying the tv show shrinking at the moment, and im super pumped for severance s2. but i'm all across the board.

favorite soundtrack is so hard. it would vary based on whether we're talking about like, curated jukebox soundtracks (so maybe the big chill) originally composed soundtracks (so moonlight) or musical film soundtracks (so.... chicago) i also love la la land as much as the average tumblr user lmao. there's a lot of information but i hope it's helpful!

Happy Birthday, have a good one, I'm sure I'll leave nice comments on Body Language once I finish Buffy to read it but I'm not there yet.

Also while I'm here, irregular Buffy update, if I had a nickel every time Buffy had to fight a robot I'd have two nickels which isn't many but its weird its happened twice, (I'm gonna assume now it's gonna happen again). Definitely a very different show than Series 1 and a lot more consistent, really enjoying, about midway through series 2, so Angel just lost his soul so its all to be popping off now I'm sure. Also never knew Kendra existed I guess it makes sense given I never really questioned where Faith came from if there's only one girl in all the world with the Slayer power so I'm guessing its not going to go well for her later. It being more consistent almost makes it harder to have interesting thoughts its just y'know good. The Master fallout in the opener was great, Giles backstory episode was great, Kendra's two parter, those are probably my peaks right now for series 2. Ted also had a lot of good stuff for being a somewhat out of left field "and he was actually a robot" episode. I don't particularly care for Cordy/Xander it must be said.

yeah s2 is really where they find their groove! more hits than misses. once you DO get a little bit of Faith in s3 I actually DO have a oneshot that touches back on the Ted stuff, if you're interested.

gotta admit this is like my least favorite style of cover (TOO SLOW) so i didn't love that. BUT. i checked out a couple other songs by riit and DID like them. so i'll definitely keep exploring.

really liked this one. definite groove. love the way the percussion is like sparse but very grounding, layered vocals were really cool, great buildup. extremely extremely cool.
