so i've got stuck on something simple and it's driving me insane
i'm creating a calendar to slot to the sides of the fridge in my kitchen set. and i really wanted it to be useful, not just random clutter, so i decided i was going to make it functional and have it bring up the real in-game calendar. cute lil idea, should be easy, yeah?
Tumblr media
my god it is not easy
i can bring up the notebook and phone ui... every icon but the one i want. i have no idea what the command to bring up the calendar could be, and i've tried SO many
i was so determined to get it working i even ventured into python for the first time to look through the game files. for hours on end i've searched 'calendar' and 'event' and 'ui' and 'holiday' and 'dialog' and everything else i could think of, but none of the commands i try do anything
like who was i even kidding installing PyCharm 😭 over here breaking out in a sweat watching 'absolute beginner!! a baby could code this!!!' tutorials
anyway, i never get any responses posting in the Sims 4 Studio forum, but if any modders see this post 1) i apologize for being a novice on main and 2) i would be eternally grateful for your help, or even just a nudge in the right direction. the file is here and right now the interaction opens the phone
it grinds my gears to give up on an idea, but i've wasted an embarrassing amount of time messing with this. so for now, defeated, i'm going back to my microwave 😔

I fucking despise the little mod shuffle you have to do when the sims 4 updates and everything breaks for no reason. adding and removing shit from folders at random like I’m making a potion or perhaps some kind of tincture

Sims 4 “Oregon Trail” Challenge (BACC)
Inspired by playing Oregon Trail on the Switch recently with my family as well as the Homestead Challenge for Sims 2 by child_of_air, I wanted to create a historical build a community challenge (BACC) with references to the Oregon Trail game (ie, river crossings, death by illness, new pioneers arriving by wagon train, etc). The below are guidelines for play, many adapted from the Sims 2 challenge for use in Sims 4. Please consider these guidelines flexible and tweak them as you wish to fit your gameplay. This challenge was written with all packs in mind but can be played without them.
HUGE thanks to @antiquatedplumbobs for providing me valuable feedback and helping my idea really come to life! Also thanks to @cowplant-snacks for being a sounding board and providing feedback. This challenge wouldn’t be the same without either of their input and I am so grateful!
The Basic Rules
1. There is no electricity, no running water, and no access to technology that wasn’t invented prior to the 1850s. You may wish to utilize the lot trait “off the grid” to aid with this, but this is not essential. As long as the home, decor, and most behaviors of the sims matches the time period, how restrictive you choose to be in your gameplay is up to you. “Close enough” is ok for this challenge.
2. Each member of your wagon party has a backstory to their lives, and many of them are trying to escape from the confines of the restrictive social order or begin a new life. However, the items they take with them will be restricted to what their social rank was when they left. Space on the wagon is limited, and only the most precious items would be taken along. (More on items below)
3. At the start you will play your aspiring pioneer household as they journey by wagon to their destination, facing obstacles along the way. Once your pioneers arrive at their destination, they will all move into a boarding house with a host sim. Only the host household (which includes your first set of pioneers) will be played at this point. Once sims move out and begin their own homesteads, the neighborhood will be played in rotation. Each house will be played for 1 week (length of rotation of your choosing. 1 week is my recommendation).
4. Only the host or hostess at your destination will be able to have a job at first, which will be in politics. Everyone else will have to focus on developing their skills, adding to their hope chests, and preparing for their own homesteads. Sims cannot marry or move out of the boarding house until they have produced enough goods to begin their own homesteads.
5. Please note that your end destination does not have to resemble Oregon. The Oregon Trail game was simply an inspiration for this challenge.
Time
The concept of time passing is up to you. You may want to let the seasons dictate the years, or you may want to base your year around a biological marker, such as the sim age spans. Some may want to make their own metric for years (ie, 4 days = 1 year). You may choose to not bother with the passage of time at all. If you choose to advance the passage of time, you will need to keep track of advancing technology (I recommend Decades Challenge for inspiration). This challenge could be played as a prequel to the Decades Challenge.
Getting Started
1. Create your wagon train lot for your pioneers to live on as they travel to their new home. You can build this yourself or pull a lot from the gallery (my recommendation is Oregon Trail Camp by HistoricalSim). If building your own, this functional tent looks like a covered wagon - http://simfileshare.net/folder/183978/ kindly hosted by @cowplant-snacks, amazingly made functional by @superflare, original by inabadromance.
2. Host Sims and House - Before the pioneers’ journey is complete, you will need to create a host house and a host/hostess sim. (Note: This step can be done right at the start or can wait till their journey is almost over.) Create a host sim of your choosing. This will be the only sim in the initial household able to hold a job, which should be in politics. The host will be the one to hand out homestead deeds (though not literally). The wagon load of pioneers will begin their new life here as they gather supplies and build up their skills to qualify for a homestead of their own. Consider it a boarding house of sorts and build accordingly. You’ll want space for many sims as well as skilling/crafting items available for use.
3. Townies - Your game should have as few townies as possible to begin with as your first pioneers should be part of the town’s founding. You may use mods to prevent the game from spawning townies or you may create your own and use mods to make them fill the roles the game would normally spawn new sims for (mailperson, bartender, etc). You can also allow the game to spawn as it needs to and either ignore those sims or make them over to fit the historical context. (Note: The Sims 2 Homestead Challenge mentions creating Native people to serve as existing townies. This is up to the player)
4. Create your first wagon of settlers
a. Roll a dice to see how many are on the wagon (1-7, unless you use mods to increase the household sim limit). They can be teens-adults. If you want to roll for gender, age, traits, etc you may. You can start with a married couple or single sim if you wish, but keep in mind that not all sims are guaranteed to survive the journey so more sims may be better for this challenge.
b. For each sim, roll their socioeconomic background: This determines the quality and quantity of items each sim may have brought with them to begin their new life/homestead. Note: Sims 4 furniture is stored in the shared household inventory, so may want to roll and make note of this somewhere but not actually choose the items until the sim has moved to their own homestead.
1-2: Indentured Servant or Former Slave (2 Items, poor quality)
3-4: Lower Class (5 Items, poor quality)
5: Lower Middle Class (6 Items of poor quality and 3 items of medium quality)
6: Middle Class (10 items medium quality)
c. Likewise with animals - it stands to reason that some would have brought livestock or perhaps a pet with them, but as these won’t really come into play until the sim moves to their own land, you can decide what they have now and then add them later.
5. Move them into your wagon train lot and begin their journey!
Optional: You can use my save file as a starting point for this challenge. It contains a wagon camp (Oregon Trail Camp by HistoricalSim) placed in Willow Creek. It also has the calendar already set up to include events on the journey and holidays (more on the journey and calendar below). Host house and sims are not included. http://www.simfileshare.net/download/4024989/
The Journey:
Your wagon of pioneer sims will begin their journey in spring. Their goal is to reach their end destination before winter begins. The length of this stage is up to the player - you may want to drag out the survival struggle or you may want to zip through it quickly. The average time of travel was 150 days. I’ve included a sample calendar below from my save file. The Oregon Trail begins in Missouri and ends in Oregon, and typically took months to complete with many hardships along the way. Any sim who becomes sick while on the journey will need to have a dice rolled for their survival odds (even - they live, odd - they succumb to their illness and die along the trail unless they are within a day of a Fort where they can purchase medicine). Also along the way are 4 river crossings (Kansas, Big Blue, Green, Snake) as well as passage through the Blue Mountains near the end. There are also 4 random events in the spirit of the original Oregon Trail game. For each of the 5 major events (spaced however the player chooses), roll a dice for their odds of success.
1-3 unsuccessful attempt at crossing - roll to see which sim doesn’t make it
4-6 successful crossing - continue on
For the 4 random events on the calendar, roll a dice to determine which sim will be affected by the event. Roll the dice again for survival odds - if a 3 is rolled, your sim dies.
Once the events are completed, the wagon arrives at the boarding house and moves in temporarily until their own homestead can be secured.
The sample calendar below from my save file includes all 5 events spaced out as well as a couple of stops at Forts where supplies can be purchased (medicine, food if you’re playing using the Simple Living lot challenge). I also included 4 random events and a few holiday celebrations.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Optional: If you’d like to further simulate pioneers journeying across the country, you can move your pioneer sim household to wagon camps in different worlds with each river/mountain crossing. If you’re using my save file, use the numbered wagon train lots as listed below.
Recommended worlds to use:
Kansas/Big Blue River Crossings - #1 stay on original lot in Willow Creek
Green River Crossing - #2 Henford
Snake River Crossing - #3 Oasis Springs
Blue Mountains Crossing - #4 Copperdale
Homesteads:
In order to qualify for a homestead, sims must gain 4 skill points in 3 different skills (Baking, Cooking, Cross Stitch, Fishing, Fitness, Flower Arranging, Gardening, Gourmet Cooking, Guitar, Handiness, Herbalism, Horse Riding, Juice Fizzing, Knitting, Nectar Making, Painting, Piano, Pipe Organ, Violin, Writing) as well as meet the qualifications for homesteads below:
Basic Homestead: all skills obtained, $100 starting fund, 10 household wares
2 Bedroom Homestead: all skills obtained, $200 starting fund, 12 household wares
3 Bedroom Homestead: all skills obtained, $300 starting fund, 20 household wares
Middle Class Homestead: all skills obtained, $400 starting fund, 30 household wares
If sims decide to marry, they must each obtain the skills individually but can pool household wares and money to qualify for a homestead.
Since work is not allowed for the pioneers until they move out, they will need to grow and sell produce or create and sell crafted items to earn money. Items can be sold through their inventory for ease if desired. If using Chestnut Ridge as their town, items can also be sold at the General Store.
Household wares include what they rolled from earlier based on their socioeconomic backgrounds as well as anything they create while in the host house.
Note: if you choose to play with the Simple Living lot challenge turned on, you will also want your sims to bring some produce, canned goods, and possibly seeds with them to their homestead.
Once in their own homesteads, they can expand as they have funds and need or can move to a new lot.
Optional: When two homesteads have been established, you can build a Trading Post. This is where your sims can sell their wares through the sales tables available in Sims 4. A grocery stall from Cottage Living may also be placed. They can also sell items at the General Store in Chestnut Ridge.
If you prefer a lot from the Gallery, I highly recommend Old Western Township built by antiqueplumbobs (antiquated plumbobs : Western Township - Simblreen Gift #1 A CC-Free... (tumblr.com) It is perfect as a community lot for this challenge.
When all pioneer sims from the initial wagon have moved into their own homesteads, a second wagon of pioneers can be created and start their journey. As your initial sims have families of their own, you may choose to create families to journey to your town rather than individual sims. The second (and any future) wagon train households created will be played in rotation with the homestead households established by your original pioneers.
Careers:
Once on their own established homesteads, your sims can begin careers.
At home careers: farmer, orchard owner, florist, woodworker, dairy farm, llama farm, chicken farm, horse breeder, goat herder, sheep farmer, nectar maker, juice fizzer, herbalist
Careers in game: fisherman, manual laborer, gardener, painter, politician, writer, lawyer, doctor, teacher, criminal, entertainer (Note: I would suggest creating a specific sim to be the doctor to unlock medicine, creating a teacher to be part of a wagon train once your town begins to have infants/toddlers, etc - add the careers as it makes sense for your town, as most making this journey initially would have been farmers).
Optional careers:
Create a clergyman to perform marriage ceremonies among the settlers. Can add a fee to their household funds for each marriage performed, etc.
Add in custom careers, such as Fur Trader ( Peebs : Fur Trade Career | Original Career This career... (tumblr.com) )
That’s it! See how far your town can grow and advance as new settlers arrive but most importantly, have fun!

Finally finished this!
This is, as you can tell, a recreation of the scene in Hazbin Hotel with Husk confronting Alastor, featuring my two mad scientists, Riley Magnuson and Victor Hawkins.
When it comes to these two, they do actually get along pretty well. They share similar ideals about the importance of integrating advanced technology with the human experience. They both understand the struggles of being borderline bloodthirsty and not wanting to give in to darker urges. It's just that Victor is an egotistical jackass and Riley is an emotionally constipated mess, so their relationship can be... Strained at times. For anyone familiar with the days of TVTropes, Foe Yay is the closest trope that describes their dynamic. They're about as much of a bickering-married-couple as two aros can possibly be 👌
The context for this re-imagining is that Victor tends to drop off the grid for days, sometimes weeks at a time; it typically means he's scheming an intense hacking/takeover of a government database. Other times, though, it's because he's spent so much time with Vex in the Surreal realm that he needs the time to recover. (Recover from what, exactly? I'll leave that to your imagination :3c )
And Riley, suspicious of where Victor's loyalties truly lie, doesn't yet realize that his short fuse is not something that should be tested.
The backgrounds are screenshots taken from Victor's lab in Sims 4. Because, fun fact, Sims 4 is the reason I started 'shipping' them in the first place. They went from coworkers at the lab, to rivals, to boyfriends, all because Victor stalked Riley and kept arguing with him for shits and giggles. Seems about right :D Second half: https://laughterlust.tumblr.com/post/763510718291132416/

Today we are visiting the Oranges, for whom I rolled My Legacy Shall Go On ROS and I was about to reroll it, but then I realized that Primula Venus has to be literate as an alien from a technologically advanced planet. She needs to write a biography of the werewolf before he passes away. They are obliged to pay her 500$, which might become her little dowry.
However, I still decided to roll again, because this ROS turned out to be more for Primula Venus rather than for anyone else in this house. It was a potentially deadly ROS, but I was hoping it was based on the body skill and as a benevolent watcher, I decided to apply this scenario to the werewolf, who also happened to be the eldest person in this house.
I already thought the food shortage would be bad for the werewolf, but in the end he avoided the death by ROS by a lucky chance (it was not skill-based after all).
Ninurta got 600$ as well as the Loves to Swim trait for winning a swimming contest (at the bathhouse, I assume). In the end it turned out Venus was paid ~1300$ for the book by the game, so I just split the money between the two of them.
~*~
I decided to give this family traits, partly randomized, but I also picked what I thought made sense out of what the game wanted to give me. The werewolf Ninurta Orange Loves to Swim, and also he's a Brave, but Unstable Dog Person, and Night Owl.
I let his son and grandson inherit traits at 50% chance. I also have only the personality check on for now, so sims with any age/aspiration/interests can get any traits.
Damu is an Artistic, Hydrophobic Night Owl, and Angler, with Photographer's Eye. Ninildu is a Brave Hydrophobe, with Photographer's Eye, and he Loves the Outdoors... I know, Photographer's Eye doesn't really make sense, but I imagine they are really good at drawing portraits and still life and such.
I could turn these traits into their 'historical equivalents', but I don't think they really translate that well and I would never remember what all of these defaults stand for. Here is a nice list if anyone needs it though. Photographer's Eye is supposed to turn into Scribe, but I don't like that idea... If it was a Scribe trait, then it could only apply to literate sims.
So the Night Owl trait got passed on from Ninurta to his son Damu. Grandson Ninildu inherited his granddad's Brave trait. He also got the Hydrophobic trait from his dad. It's funny to see how Damu and Ninildu have no love for swimming, unlike their werewolf ancestor.
~*~
Ninildu wanted to teach the family dog some tricks. He also helped around the garden and got the Silver Gardening Badge. He will have to tend to this garden someday himself after all. He'll also take care of the goats and maybe make some cheese if they ever get enough animals for that purpose. I will probably have him open a home business next round.
Ninildu was rolled to become a Family sim. That's the first Family sim in this household. He wanted to become friends with a lot of his family members as a child, so it makes a lot of sense. I will need some romantic prospects for him though...
I think Ninildu has eyes and mouth similar to his father's, but his nose and face shape seem different. I'm not totally sure.
~*~
I've decided I'm killing all elders this round. No matter what, the original sims shouldn't be alive anymore. They all have grown children and at least school-aged grandchildren. They have lived for 7 rounds. That's at least 35 days, and the game was telling me they were 70+ days.
The Oranges will not be taking the inheritance money from grandpa Ninurta. I will set their money to around 4000, and they should end up with ~3600 when Venus moves out.
In case anyone wonders who the ladies Ninurta left money for are, they are his crushes and friends.
He had 1 friend (a head witch, Renee Hanby) and 4 crushes:
the burglar, Brenda Lillard
the garden club lady, Suzanne Lee
the Nature hobby instructor, Kitty Lind
and the Arts&Crafts instructor, Jenna GilsCarbo.
I should marry one of them in, maybe even to his grandson... Ninurta only made out with them, and they probably won't even remember this, because my townies don't have memories. He just really wanted his 5 dream dates, as a Pleasure sim. I guess these ladies have ~400$ dowries now, with his inheritance, so they're fine prospects for lower rank sims.
~*~
Venus is rolling no wants for Nepri. She only wanted to be BFF-s with him. I guess that's wise. He should do the moves on her if he wants to. On the other hand, she should really want to get out of this household filled with men who are unrelated to her.
I have a plan for her if she chooses not to get married. Around the time when she arrived in the neighbourhood, an alien baby was born. This alien baby is already an orphan, and his caretaker will soon die. That means the baby is either 'taken away', or someone is going to find the baby and look after him. I will move Venus to the lot next door, to take care of the baby. These 2 houses were supposed to be apartments to begin with, and I feel like the families would be close neighbours.
Since I was already giving my sims traits, I got some for Primula Venus, too. She's a Perceptive, Athletic, and Proper Genius, with No Sense of Humour.
All she's interested in is maxing out Literature hobby and Creativity skill. Maybe I should have made her Unflirty or something... She made friends with Galfrid Wolfen, so in my book it's fine for her to move into his house instead of staying with the Oranges.
~*~
I zero'd their money at the very beginning of the round, after which they got some inheritance from the emperor. It was ~2350$ total and I decided they could keep it. After all, Ninildu is the emperor's grandson, so he deserves something. Ninurta and Damu were friends with the imperial couple, as well.
~*~
Unfortunately, I sort of failed the 'lent/fast' scenario I thought of applying to all my families. None of the Oranges go to work/school, so I just had to feed them twice per day. But they ate only bread, so it's fine in my view.
Damu wanted to max out his Arts&Crafts enthusiasm again, so I let him paint some portraits of his dad and hang them on the wall.
Everyone in this house wanted a puppy, and I know it's a common want, but because they already have a grown dog, they might get some puppies someday, we'll see.

Sims 4 Legacy Challenge
Abcde's home planet of Xelara Prime is highly advanced in technology, focused on exploration, and adept at cloning and genetic manipulation through "science babies." Xelara Prime is a lush planet with towering, bioluminescent flora, endless oceans of shimmering liquid, and a culture that values discovery and interstellar relations.
Abcde was part of an elite group of Xelaran explorers sent on a mission to find signs of life across the universe. Their planet had perfected a cloning technology, allowing explorers to reproduce via "science babies" in order to continue their species without the need for traditional reproduction methods. These clones could be created anywhere, given access to the necessary equipment, enabling explorers to thrive even in the harshest environments.
Abcde's mission was simple: explore, observe, and report back. But things went horribly wrong when her ship was pulled into a strange gravitational field near a small, life-filled planet known as SimEarth. The ship crash-landed in the tranquil suburban area of Newcrest, a seemingly peaceful place teeming with lifeforms vastly different from what Abcde had seen before.
Stranded, Abcde is now forced to adapt to life in this peculiar world of Sims. With no immediate way to repair the ship, Zara must integrate into the local society while keeping their alien origins hidden. They’ve set up a home in Newcrest, blending in as an eccentric, tech-savvy newcomer. Using their advanced knowledge of science, Abcde is able to create "science babies" in their home lab, and is even experimenting with cross-species genetic enhancements to better understand Sim biology.
Despite their mission to return home, Abcde is growing more intrigued by life on this new world and is considering staying longer than initially planned.
Challenges and Goals:
Gain access to a spacecraft to return to Xelara Prime.
Study the Sim inhabitants and report back any useful information on their social structures and biology.
Integrate into Sim society, form relationships, and experiment with "science babies" to see how Xelaran genes might mix with those of the Sims.
Keep their true identity hidden to avoid potential panic or capture by the Sims.

The ULTIMATE Guide to Selecting the Ideal Gaming PC
Since there are so many alternatives on the market, choosing the ideal gaming PC can be a daunting endeavor. Technological developments, the growing popularity of competitive gaming, and the growing need for high-quality graphics are the main forces behind this progression. Whether you’re a casual gamer, a competitive player, or a content creator, understanding your gaming needs, budget, and the various components that make up a gaming PC is crucial. This comprehensive guide will walk you through the process of choosing the best gaming PC for your needs in 2024.
The Evolution of Gaming PCs
The 1990s: The Dawn of Gaming PCs
During the 1990s, gaming PCs began to emerge as distinct entities from regular personal computers. This era saw the introduction of dedicated graphics cards, significantly improving gaming performance. Games like Doom and Quake pushed the envelope of what was possible, driving demand for better graphics and faster processors.
The 2000s: The Rise of Custom Builds
The early 2000s marked a significant shift towards custom-built gaming PCs.This period also saw the rise of online multiplayer games, which further increased the demand for powerful hardware capable of handling complex graphics and network processing. The rise of custom builds also led to the creation of budget gaming PCs that offered solid gaming performance at lower prices.
The 2010s: VR and High-Definition Gaming
Fast developments in both hardware and software defined the 2010s. Playing video games in high definition has become the standard, with resolutions like 1080p and 4K appearing more frequently. Virtual reality (VR) also entered the mainstream, requiring even more powerful PCs to deliver smooth and immersive experiences. For serious gamers, GPUs like AMD's Radeon series and NVIDIA's GTX and RTX series became indispensable.
The 2020s and Beyond: The Era of Ray Tracing and AI
Today, gaming PCs are more powerful than ever, thanks to advancements in technologies like ray tracing and artificial intelligence (AI). Realistic lighting and shadows can be achieved with ray tracing, while AI solutions like NVIDIA's DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) enhance performance without sacrificing visual quality. As we move further into the 2020s, the line between gaming PCs and professional workstations continues to blur, with high-end systems capable of handling gaming, content creation, and complex simulations with ease.
The Versatility of Gaming PCs
Multi-Tasking Powerhouses
Gaming PCs are made to manage several things at once. Whether you’re gaming, streaming, editing videos, or working on complex design projects, a gaming PC can handle it all without breaking a sweat. For professionals who need a strong machine for their work, this makes them perfect.
Future-Proofing
Investing in a gaming PC ensures that you are equipped with the latest technology, which can handle future software and game releases. Because of this future-proofing feature, you won't need to upgrade your PC frequently, which will ultimately save you money.
Understanding Your Gaming Needs
Gaming Preferences
Casual Gaming
For casual games like The Sims or Minecraft, a mid-range gaming PC is sufficient. These games don’t demand the highest specs but still benefit from good performance.
Example: The Sims 4 requires a minimum of an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 4GB of RAM, and an NVIDIA GeForce 6600 graphics card. A mid-range gaming PC will handle these requirements easily.
Competitive Gaming
For competitive games like Fortnite or Call of Duty: Warzone, you’ll need a high-performance PC with a fast CPU and GPU to achieve higher frame rates and lower latency.
Example: Fortnite players benefit from an Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB of RAM, and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 graphics card. Reaction times and general performance can be enhanced with higher frame rates.
AAA Titles and VR Gaming
Graphically demanding games like Cyberpunk 2077 or VR gaming require top-tier gaming PCs with the latest hardware. VR gaming, in particular, demands a PC that can handle the additional load of rendering immersive environments.
What Type of PC is Best for Gaming?
The best type of gaming PC depends on your specific needs:
Graphics Card (GPU): Essential for smooth gameplay, especially in high-resolution settings. Popular options include NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX series and AMD’s Radeon RX series.
Processor (CPU): A strong CPU is crucial for both performance and multitasking. Intel Core i5/i7 or AMD Ryzen 5/7 are solid choices.
RAM: 8GB of RAM is the minimum, but 16GB is recommended for more demanding games and multitasking.
Storage: A combination of SSD for fast load times and HDD for additional storage is ideal.
Cooling: Adequate cooling is necessary to maintain performance and system longevity.
