hey so small fun facts about lyric and the process of making her, her right eye, the brown one, is a face detail slot to allow for heterochromia, which is where modder's will usually put it. however, this can cause texture conflicts with certain clothes and accessories, especially custom ones, so u'll see an eyeball texture in random places it shouldn't be. in lyric's case it was the head scarf she wears in her formal and cold weather outfits. u can even spot the white sclera part in the closeup picture of her cold weather outfit.

she also can't wear most jewelry, especially necklaces, for multiple reasons.
1. the necklaces that hang low look distorted due to her custom body preset, mainly in the collarbone area. if u use custom body presets u have to get used to this happening a lot but it's still sad because a lot of the cool witchy-wizard jewelry i had looked fucked up lol. :(

2. the texture of the jewelry would be recolored in some way. if u zoom in closely on the necklace she wears in her hot weather outfit, the crystal has small gray markings that aren't supposed to be there. i'm not sure why it's gray but it might be the shaded part of the sclera.

saw @athina-blaine's ask abt a labru gamer AU so let me present my split second dunmeshi minecraft server thoughts
• thistle: created the server. Refuses to budge on the rules he put in place on day one, except for like 2 notable exceptions. Barely plays but always memorable when he does, builds the weirdest shit and then logs off for months at a time
• delgal: notable exception #1, he asked thistle to make it normal survival mode instead of hardcore bc it was too high stress. used to play very frequently until he got a new PC and moved on to other games. thistle has forbidden the other players from destroying the castle he made
• senshi: has taken it upon himself to do all of the farming and cooking in the game, has figured out the best ways to make the most efficient farms, is wildly talented w redstone but only in terms of making it easier to grow crops and breed friendly mobs. eagerly awaits new food recipes with each update
• laios: has made it his personal goal to capture each of the hostile mobs and keep it in his base as a personal monster showcase. Goes on hour-long mining excursions to fortify his base because the blazes and ghasts keep destroying their enclosures. Wants to find an ender portal but just to get shulker boxes, determined to figure out how to defeat the ender dragon without killing it
• falin: notable exception #2, she asked thistle to turn on keep inventory because she kept exploring and getting too lost but she didn't want to die and lose all of her stuff. has heard stories about the limits of the world borders and the farlands and is determined to find them. Good at avoiding hostile mobs but not at keeping herself alive so she tends to die from starvation or falls, senshi's most frequent visitor when she stocks up for her next excursion
• chilchuck: started playing to understand the game better when his daughters got into it, now it's developed into a guilty pleasure. The one who supplies the rest of the gang with materials as needed, loves the grind of collecting a billion stacks of cobblestone and dirt. Goes to the end w laios just to collect endstone, same w the nether. Also responsible for keeping the chests meticulously organized, he gives everyone hell if they mess up his system
• marcille: not usually one for survival games but got hooked when falin showed her the redstone systems and potion making. Has made a machine for everything she possibly could, is currently figuring out a fast travel system in the nether so falin can go further than she normally can in the overworld. Relies on chilchuck to fund all of her projects bc she's deathly afraid of mining and getting blown up by creepers. Goes to the end w laios to see if she can expand on the teleportation mechanics of ender pearls (is very disappointed when she can't)
• kabru: joined at laios's request, secretly hated minecraft and preferred the sims but still plays because he found out that you can make your own collection of villagers to trade with and consequently became obsessed. Didn't know about the pillagers and almost rage quit when they killed his villagers and destroyed his progress while laios just tried to catch the ravager to add to his monster zoo. Now recruits laios whenever pillagers show up bc he doesn't want to deal with the raids
• izutsumi: banned for griefing when she lured a creeper into a wing of delgal's castle where she'd put a bunch of tnt

Another round of my late submissions to RvB OC week!
Day 2: Red Team/Blue Team
After their daring escape from the Mother of Invention, former Agents Alberta and Nova Scotia- now just Ali and Kris again- found themselves stuffed in amongst the rank and file of simulation troopers in training. They ended up repainting their armour, hacking into the personnel database, and installing themselves in under the false identities of Amanda Jamitinya and Alotta Fujyna... names that, when questioned, they simply said were ones they wrote as jokes on their enlistment paperwork and now couldn't change.
Stranded in a remote outpost with no way to escape that wouldn't also raise suspicion about their survival, and believing they would be targets of the O.N.I. should they attempt to return to society, Ali and Kris instead elected to take the path of least resistance and act like truly incompetent sim troopers. Just the absolute worst to ever do it. This incredible incompetency attracted the interest of Agent Florida, who added them to the teams being posted in Blood Gulch. In the interest of bolstering the stalemate and lack of open combat between teams, they were placed on opposite sides- Kris on blue, Ali on red. However, their armour had been repainted purple, spawning infinite debates about whether or not the colour belonged to blue team or red team.

It didn't take them long to figure out what the true purpose of Blood Gulch was. Given his name, they were acutely aware who- or what- Church was. Given that they didn't know Florida, and he only ever referred to himself as Captain Flowers, they didn't know for certain he was a Freelancer, but very much suspected he was the one reporting back to Command. They remained on edge in the canyon until he died, after which they relaxed significantly and began to regain some semblance of enjoyment in life.
Kris planted a garden outside blue base, growing fruits and vegetables that she guarded fiercely. Ali made a game of stealing from it, using that as the cover story for why they spent an inordinate amount of time over at blue base. The pair likewise regularly stole snacks from Grif's stash, something Simmons noticed but turned a blind eye to only because Ali told him they were doing it to "improve their in with the enemy for better spying capability". They played pranks on each others' teams, met up in the caves to hang out, and just chilled. For a time, they had peace again.
When the events of the Blood Gulch Chronicles occurred, and Agent Texas arrived at the canyon, they returned to stress mode. That is, of course, until Tex informed them both that she knew who they were and didn't care. Given that Tex had a biosynthetic body the two has contributed to the design of, they were both acutely aware that she was an AI- so long as they kept their mouths shut, she would too. Wyoming, on the other hand, luckily didn't know them.
They pretty much allowed things to progress as normal in the BGC, with the pair assisting in fighting O'Malley- who they modified their armour and neural interfaces to keep from possessing them- in order to keep their teams safe. Ali helped Sarge build Tex and Church's new bodies, though he failed to inform her about the additions he'd installed while she was otherwise occupied until it was far too late. Kris joins Tucker and the crew on the great journey, mostly out of distrust for Crunchbite, and is pretty much just waiting for a reason to kill the alien the entire journey. When all hell breaks loose in Season 5, Ali helps Doc deliver Tucker's baby, the cousins manage the tech side of the plans to entrap O'Malley, and when the army of Wyomings attack, they finally cut loose and actually use their combat skills for the first time in years.
None of these efforts change the inevitable, of course- and when everyone is transferred out of Blood Gulch, Kris and Ali ignore their orders to move to Rat's Nest, instead pretending their orders were to move to Outpost 48-A alongside Church. Because this outpost has no red base, and their days of even pretending to care about the red vs. blue conflict are over, Ali simply moves into the same base as the blues. This is where they're found at the beginning of Reconstruction by Caboose and Wash- who the group is not particularly pleased to see. The events of that encounter can be read at the following link:

More Ramblings on the Infinite Saving Bug
Alright folks, this is, hopefully, my last post regarding the 'saving bug' and I have some news. I've been dealing with this issue for the last three weeks with two weeks of it spent in testing hell. Let me say this: It doesn't get any simpler as I look into it more and more.
Still, I've concluded that the saving-bug is a form of save corruption. Once your save is affected, my condolences, it's practically game-over. The save still can be played safely, though, as long as you don't go into Buy/Build Mode - which is practically impossible. This is the really bad news, especially for builders like myself. But there is more to it! So go ahead, if you're curious. *Long Post Warning* Scroll to this part for a possible fix! -> 'here's my desperate move'

There are many threads on the internet (e.g. 1, 2, 3) regarding the issue but none of them gives a reason or a meaningful solution. What is this bug then? From the links I provided, my understanding is that it has started around Seasons release, most likely after an update and, not surprisingly never been solved. I really wanted to believe that it's CC related but even vanilla players claim to have it; so CC is not the reason. My tests also came up with the same result so that's a bummer.

It seems to be triggered by going into Buy/Build Mode on certain lots; but my experiences also showed that it can spread to other lots. That's why I think it's a save/world corruption. But it also appears on different saves in the same Sims 3 folder. I have found a way to uncorrupt the building to be used in other worlds but the empty lot even after the building is bulldozed remains corrupt.
Meaning, you cannot build anything on that lot without triggering the bug. The so-called saving bug also affects the process of saving the lots to your library. So once you start getting it you can't even send the building into your library. There is a way to do it using Nraas Debug Enabler but it only worked for me once.
To save you the trouble, I have a list of things I've tried and now know that don't work at all against the saving bug.
Resetting everything via Nraas MC.
Resetting lot via Nraas MC.
Bulldozing the building and resetting the lot; using hammer tool to delete every visible or invisible object on the lot.
Saving lot to the bin; adding it to another world or a clean save of the same world and editing it there.
Starting a clean save of the world and build something in a lot seems to be fine at first; but saving bug returns eventually as stated in the threads I linked.
Creating a new Sims 3 folder doesn't work, either, as long as you use the same save.
So, what does work? Well, this is where the mystery lies. My conclusion is that it's a save corruption affecting the Sims 3 folder, as a whole, which doesn't make sense; and can be spread by installing corrupt buildings. I'll summarise my testing process:
I had a separate Sims 3 folder that I use to test stuff. This folder had a slightly different mods setup and any save I have in this folder could be saved successfully no matter how long I have stayed in the Buy/Build.
Then I moved the fresh save that eventually got the saving bug (mentioned in the 5th point above), into this bug-free Sims 3 folder and guess what? I could save without a problem. That made me think this is actually a CC thing. So I carried the ingredients of my Mods folder one by one and continue testing and each time I could save, like, in 2 seconds.
The world is a small world with no population and no buildings other than my test building, an empty house and the corrupt bar that started this all. And each time it saved until I finished with the building and moved everything from my Mods folder. I was really tired and confused at that moment. If it's not CC or the save folder, then what is it?
Then I entered the corrupt bar and bam! The saving bug returns. What I did after that was a desperate move. As I stated earlier, once the saving bug begins you cannot even save the building to your library. But one can click on any venue/house map tag, Door, Window, Wall, Ground > Nraas > Debug Enabler > DEBUG: Move Lot To Game Bin. The building will disappear. Then you need to switch to Edit Town Mode wait for a minute or so. The lot will appear at upper left corner of the screen (as evicted families do) from there you can save it to your library.
Unfortunately, this method only worked once for me. If it doesn't work at first try, quit the game, restart and do this first upon loading your world. This is how I moved my corrupt building to another save and initiate the saving bug there. But I also found a way to uncorrupt the said building.
And here's my desperate move: In game select the corrupt building in your library and choose pack as a Sims3pack or whatever the option is. You wouldn't miss it, it's there. I believe you can also do it with the building still in your world, so you may not even need it in your library. Game packs it successfully and tells you so, even if the lot/building is corrupt. Because this is EA and you should share your corruption.
Ahem. Quit your game. Go to your Exports folder. Move the file to some work folder, it doesn't matter where. You need to extract it. Since Sims3pack files are nothing but containers like zip files that can hold multiple package files, they are nothing special and should be avoided normally. To unpack/extract you need either s3ce or Delphy's Sims 3 Pack multi-extractor. Or any other tool that you know of except the Launcher.
After that you will open your newly extracted package file in s3pe and delete resources that normally belong to objets. Best way to be sure is to open another lot package in your library and examine the contents. But let me help you here: Delete EVERYTHING BUT 2ARY, COMP, ICON, LDES, RFES, TXTC, TXTF, UNKN. These are the lot resources. Be patient and carefully delete everything else.
Well, this was the good news! Now you can rescue your beloved building and use it in a new save. I don't know why it works, it just does. The really bad news is like I said, your world is most likely corrupt and not only the buildings in problem lots but the empty lots themselves are corrupt. You get the saving bug again when you place your cleaned-up building in the same lot in your affected save.
OK. I think I've managed to clean the empty lot itself as well. So, it's all good. I don't know if it's a fluke but I did this and my game saved without an issue after editing the problem building:
Bulldoze the building and reset the lot via MC. Go to Edit Town and change lot type to Residential>Regular (or vice versa if it's a Residential Lot). Return to Game reset lot via MC again. Save & Quit to Desktop. Not to Main Menu.
Go to The Sims 3/WorldCaches Folder and delete the cache files belonging to your world.
Start the game & load your save. Go to Edit Town and change lot type to Community>Whatever you like or whatever the lot type was before. Go back to game and reset lot via MC again. Save and Quit to Desktop.
Go to WorldCaches and delete your world's cache files again.
Start the game & load your save. Put the building that you've cleaned up as described above in this wall of text. Go into Build Mode, do something, stay there for a while. Go back to Live mode and try to save. If it works do this with every corrupt lot in combination with uncorrupting buildings method. And you're good.
Some steps may be unnecessary like constant resetting or deleting world caches but I exactly did this so take it as you like. If nothing works, your other options are:
Use Nraas Porter and move your town to a new save. Use the method above to make sure your buildings are safe from corruption. And use a newly created Sims 3 folder.
Bulldoze both the building and the empty lot. Do this to every problem lot. Then maybe you can save your game after wandering in Buy/Build Mode. But I wouldn't hold my breath for this one. Another issue with this method is that you will most likely not be able put another lot in place of the one you bulldozed. Because Sims 3.
Or make a copy of your save and enter Buy/Build Mode on every community lot one by one. Try to save once on each lot. If it saves, the lot is safe; if it doesn't lot is corrupt. Quit, load your game and do this for every lot one by one. Make a list of every corrupt building. Either bulldoze them all or never go into Build Mode on them. This way, in theory, you can play your save until another bug hits you in the face! 👍🏻 That's my plan. 👌🏼
I tried to be as clear as possible, keeping it simple, omitting some details but the issue is very complex and confusing. Also heartbreaking 💔 and rage inducing. 🤬 Well, this is it. Wish me luck and good luck to you all trying to play this cursed, borked bugfest of a game.

Capp family Update - Roaring Heights 3t2
If you're not an expert on Sims 3 worlds and Sims 2 lore (I'm rusty as hell on Strangetown and Veronaville admittedly) like myself, then you should know that the Capp family from the Sims 2 is in the Sims 3 ... in the past!
Here's how I am imagining the situation to go.
First, let's arrive at the home of the Thebes.

Had to turn on day mode in Build so forgive the grid.
Andromache Thebe and her husband, Hector. They live in Roaring Heights - Sims 3 Timeline. Prelude to Sims 2. A time where technology likely got way out of hand (time travel was available in 3, not 2, for example)
They came to Roaring Heights "on vacation" - as said in assumedly good faith by their son - Consort Capp.
But now, it seems that Consort speaks of moving back to the Old Country ... "Veronaville" .... or at least, something is going on between parents and son ... I mean, also, Consort Capp and his wife, Contessa, (she's dead at the beginning of Sims 2) literally popped out a third child while in Roaring Heights - Kent Capp - I am going to imagine that this was unexpected since their biography lays out that they came to Roaring Heights on vacation.
Of course, both of their bios in Roaring Heights (Thebes and Capps) also state that the families seemingly have decided to move in. But I am not sure.
For example, the Capp home in Roaring Heights only has three bedrooms. Regan and Kent would end up having to share a room, but they also have a lot of money at the start of Sims 3 Roaring Heights!
So why would they have opted for THIS house ...

...with not enough space for a pregnancy (unless it was unexpected like I suspect) when there are freakin' deluxe multi-floor mansions available in Roaring Heights?
Contessa is a technophobe.
Hector is also a technophobe. Consort is not a technophobe.
Roaring Heights has a lot of technophobic Sims and is known for being a Sims 3 world that lacks objects such as flat-screen televisions and computers entirely - items that are common in other worlds.
I'm starting to get a clearer picture. Old Country may be subject to changes that Hector and Andromache, and also Contessa, do not like at all.
Hector and Andromache probably want to stay in Roaring Heights.
But its' possible that Consort wants to go back to the Old Country, embrace supernatural immigrants and the advent of technology.
Maybe he just misses it.
My first theory came to fruition when I had Andromache invite Consort and Goneril over to the house one afternoon.

I directed Hector to argue with Consort.
And for good reason!
When I made Consort selectable upon his arrival, I saw this!

When did that happen? It must have been organically sometime ago and I just forgot!
At least he's friends with his dad, but their relationships REALLY went down. Also, when I played the Capp home a few days ago, Contessa was literally in the process of birthing Kent and raising a newborn so ... they really didn't have time to keep up relationships!
But anyways, because of this, I had Hector argue with Consort bc wtf Consort? Why are you pissed at your father?
Looking at Hector's thought bubble, he's arguing about paranormal.
Consort, what ... wait a minute, Goneril tells me you have bought a television for the living room? What on earth are you thinking? Goneril could start becoming obsessed with those new ghost documentaries! This is unlike you! Roaring Heights is the perfect place to whip you into shape!
Hector works in the military, so he probably would be pretty aggressive.
Meanwhile, Goneril?

Thank you so much for the tag, @goatskickin! :D I am ill rn, so please excuse the rambling. x) Long post ahead!
What’s your favorite Sims death? Maybe fright? I've only ever had it happen once via ghost, the anim is pretty funny. :)

Alpha CC or Maxis Match? My Simblr probably says otherwise, but I don’t have a preference! I’ve had nearly every possible CC style under the sun throughout my years of playing, and I constantly think about reviving my 'semi-realism' folder (living vicariously through you, other simmers!). I didn't play with CC until early 2006 though, so MM is a little bit more nostalgic. :)
Do you cheat your sims weight? Hell no! I'm still in awe of Nysha's townie body diversity mod finally letting townies be fat. :D I wish the game had a better way of managing bodyshapes so I could add more variety that way.
Do you move objects? Of course!
Favorite Mod? Of all time? Impossible! My continued interest in gameplay is always because of new mods. :)
I did gain a new outlook thanks to a mod recently, though! My wild romance sim Blaze Biermann ended up 'mood swinging' to fortune before he went to uni, and instead of reverting, it got stuck.
He had a few flings still (pleasure secondary), but after he returned home and met his daughter (for the first time since her birth), he started cringing whenever I directed him to romance his dates. It felt like he had grown as a person, and I loved it!

TL;DR: Randomly change your sims' original aspiration/s to give them interesting character arcs! First Expansion/Game Pack/Stuff Pack? I mean, not my decision, but our first TS1 EP was Hot Date. I'm pretty sure I got TS2 EPs/SPs in order of release (miss those days of unwrapping a new one every birthday/christmas!).
Do you pronounce live mode like aLIVE or LIVing? We're LIVE, baby! 🎥
Who’s your favorite sim that you’ve made? I don't usually get very attached to my first-generation sims, but maybe Evonne Milos, from the gameplay/story hood I accidentally destroyed in four days? Never actually played her, but I had a lot of ideas for a corrupt 'sexpot' politician. x)

Have you made a simself? Lots! 99% of the fun I had playing TS2 as a kid was me and my best friend making ourselves and our respective crushes of the week, and we'd always live in one of those Veronaville lots that was two houses connected by a balcony. I can't even tell you the amount of times she got me pregnant against my wishes whilst I went to the bathroom, lmao.
Which is your favorite EA hair color? For colour consistency, probably brown? But there are a lot of brunettes in Brunwick (must be the name!), so I enjoy the recessives popping up in gameplay. :)
Favorite EA hair? Does an EA download count? Jeanette is lovely.
Favorite life stage? Ohhh dude, that's so difficult to answer. They all bring different challenges and dynamics to the household! I feel like I've started to appreciate the child lifestage more since Brunwick has grown large enough to have multiple friendship groups. It's fun watching them goof around with each other and be actual kids, instead of sitting indoors skilling. I really need to build a park! :)

The Sims 4: A Series of Unfortunate Events Challenge
By me (@jazzyjasper98 ) 💚. I couldn't find a Sims 4 Challenge based on the original books or movie A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket, so I decided to make my own.
POV: You're Violet Baudelaire/The Eldest Orphan
Upon enjoying a seemingly average day at the beach with your two younger siblings, you receive the news that both of your parents have perished in a fire that's destroyed your entire home. Orphaned and homeless, you are sent to live with a vile, grime-covered Count who claims to be a relative and has a number of schemes to get his greedy claws on your family fortune. He's also weirdly obsessed with eyes for some reason. It's up to you to protect your siblings and your inheritance from your new dastardly dad.
Long Lifespan recommended. (••• Menu > Game Options > Gameplay > Sim Lifespan)
Also Highly Recommended, but not Required — MCC Command Center Mod to allow your teen Sim to parent their youngest sibling.
Rules and Gameplay:
Start with two adults, one teen, one child, and one toddler in a mansion of your choosing. You may use "TestingCheats True" + "FreeRealEstate On" to move them into their first home. Names and genders are completely up to you.
Traits:
° Parents: Family Oriented + 2 of your choice
° Teen: Genius, Creative, Good
° Child: Genius, Bookworm
° Toddler: Inquisitive
Aspirations:
° Teen: Knowledge — Academic
° Child: Mental — Whiz Kid
Once your family is made and moved in, exit to Manage Worlds and create or choose an adult to be the Count, build/choose a decrepit-looking home to move him into, then return to the family.
Aspiration: Fortune — Fabulously Wealthy.
Traits: Mean, Evil, Hates Children.
Optional: Use the cheat "ModifyRelationship [Parent First Name] [Parent Last Name] [Count] [Count's Last Name] [Amount] LTR_Friendship_Main" to set the relationship between each parent and the Count before they perish, since Count Olaf knew the Baudelaires and caused their demise in the original story. Friendship amount can be anything from –100 to 100.
• Have the teen take their siblings to any beach (preferably on a cloudy day like in the movie, but this is not required), then switch control to the parents. Make them cook, leave the fireplace on too long, or use cheats/mods. Whatever starts a fire. Make sure neither parent survives. Then bulldoze the lot in Build Mode.
• Use the "Money [Amount]" cheat to set the family funds to §0 (or almost 0), then merge the orphans with the Count household.
• Give 'em hell. It's the "Series of Unfortunate Events" challenge for a reason. Make your Count perform a number of Mean and Mischief interactions with the children. Just try to not let child services take them away, since nobody helped the orphans in the original Series until it was nearly too late.
• When the teen ages up to Young Adult, use money cheats to make the orphans wealthy and move them back into their parents' burned down mansion and build another one (or choose one from the Gallery).
• Live Happily Ever After.
Goals and Epilogue:
Have all three children survive living with the Count until the eldest grows up and inherits their parents' fortune. This is not points based, and there's really no way you can lose — unless you have the Extreme Violence and/or Life Tragedies Mods to add some extra drama, in which case the intentional death of any child by the actions or influence of the Count results in the challenge being lost.
You are allowed to make other guardians like Uncle Monty and Aunt Josephine from the original Series, but you're not required to. I wanted to keep this challenge as simple as possible for Simmers with limited packs.
Once they have a new home and their own lives back, the challenge is over and the rest of their lives is up to you!

Amazing timing, I was actually wondering just now what Sims game I should play as a novice who just wants to play it for practical reasons like copying the backgrounds for art.
I guess I'm just asking: which Sims game should I play or avoid?
Arguably the sims 4 is the ‘best’ in the series in terms of base gameplay features. The sim creator and build mode are the best in the series. Unfortunately as the sad corpse of ts4 is still dragged around a decade after release, no packs from the past like 4 years have been worth it imo. If you literally JUST need it for art backgrounds, imo I’d get it. I think (?) they now made the base game free so it’s not too awful. Unfortunately actually playing the game is a very watered down sims experience and every pack you buy/“”borrow”” can and WILL break shit
Sims 3 is super nostalgic for me and I adore the open world. It’s not perfect or bug less, but I personally enjoy the gameplay of ts3 way more even though it’s kinda ugly. Only downside is base sims 3 is incredibly unappealing and you’ll have to mod it to hell and back. GOOD news is I can link you a very good beginning mod pack (it’s also way easier to pirate) which I can link when I get home from work
My only advice regardless of the game you choose is to use so much cc that it becomes bloatware. Only then will you get the true sims experience.

in my head it's like "aLIVE" but from a linguistic perspective I gotta concede that the "LIVing" pronunciation makes more sense because it's consistent with the other modes (buy/build) which are verbs not adjectives

I hate all my loser sims I guess I have a sweet spot for a child sim I made back when I was a child. She lived in a trailer, had big droopy eyes like Brittany Spears, and was named Miami.

*disclaimer: this is ALL pre-alpha art. these screenshots are BEFORE visual development started. it's ugly. it's supposed to be. i was focused on programming and didn't want aesthetics to get in the way. pretend in your heart that this is all beautiful pixel art

i started working on this game in october 2023!! i had been learning gdscript before that, a little bit, but i hadn't fully committed to this project until then. pictured below is. the First build of the game vs the most current build. we've come so far.

the prototype was just a one-week build of the farming sim. so i could test how the time mechanic worked (time only moves when you do an action, you're not on a constant ticking clock)(this makes it much easier to strategize what you'll do in a day and letting the player go at their own pace, making the game feel more relaxed)(you can also... undo actions... which was just me testing out the code in this version but in the full version... will have different Implications)
i am all by my lonesome on this project. mechanically at least. my brother, girlfriend, dad, and my best friends are constantly helping me test things and i bounce ideas off of them all the time. it helps that my brother is a master GM and writer and my girlfriend is a software developer. and i lean very heavily on my dad for music/soundscape assistance. so yes, solodev, but also i am not an island

so the prototype was made when i was still learning gdscript past the phase of "tutorials for babies that produce a single number-go-up game" which is. hard!! since this is a much more complex project. it's easy to make anything in isolation, it's harder to figure out how to make new systems weave into a bigger project! fucking hell i didn't even know about custom resources!!!!

the prototype went off with FLYING COLORS though. girlfriend and brother played it over the weekend i gave it to them and it worked, it made sense, and watching the two of them test out the mechanics gave me some very good ideas for future builds. also nothing crashed and gf couldn't find any crazy exploits! (however pictured below is the incredibly fucked up floating rabbit glitch that i couldn't fix)

i finished it in june and took a break in july. august will be the first proper devlog for this! i'm excited to have a little dev journal around! i probably will only post consistently about once a month, with maybe some little posts here and there about characters or concept art i'm excited for
so what's next?
TIME TO GO BUILD ALPHA, BABY!!!!
which sounds exciting but i'm basically. starting from scratch again. new, fresh godot file. so it feels like i'm not very far in, even though i have an entire working prototype on my desktop.
and.... geez.... gotta actually make the pixel art and implement it into a working file???? so that it doesn't look like dogshit???? that would be nice. i didn't want to do it for prototyping/pre-alpha because i really wanted to make sure i had the capacity to code the game before putting my heart and soul into the art. and now i'm very certain i do?? it's not hard, it just takes time. and the time will pass anyway!!
i have two campaigns planned for the game, one that's smaller and one that's larger. the bigger one is the typical make your own character farming simulator, played straight in the setting. but i'm working on the smaller one first! you play as a specific character for the first year of the story. not all of the game mechanics are turned on for this mode, and it's more story-oriented than the straight Farming Simulator, so i think it's a good place to put development energy into. get it all ironed out. make it make sense before blowing it up on a larger scale. and it's more contained to test in which is a bonus
anyway. i'm going to post build updates on this on the last day of every month. and!! i'm not going to say a Lot about how the game works quite yet but the askbox is open. i don't think anyone will ask anything cause this is still in really early stages but it's there if you want it i guess

Sims 4: B 4 Real
I made a Sims 4: 4 Rent Expansion Pack What-I-Wish-It-Was Wishlist because even though the bar is in hell as far as the Sims 4 Team is involved, it's fun to imagine what the pack could've been, what features could've been added blah-blah-blah.
I've seen the Release Trailer, the "Gameplay" Trailer, the "Livestream", and absorbed as much EA Creator Network content as I can handle... and it's meh-to-yikes (MWS 2). So....

RENTING
Not mad at what they did. This is exactly how I, in my dumb-dumb non-coder brain, figured that they could've made working apartments HOWEVER they could've added a better screening process, moreso accepting tenants to apply for the apartment rather than outright accepting them.
The application process could've given the player the ability to accept tenants sight unseen OR given them the ability to screen traits, wealth, or if they have a job with the possibility of getting sued for housing discrimination.
On the other end, if you're playing generationally you can apply for an apartment, pay the application fee, look around, meet the landlord, and/or get rejected because it's your first apartment and your Sim Score is non existent.
All the gameplay I've seen so far, I actually like as far as the water heater and fuse box, mold, and infestation, and all the events. I also like that you can experience all those issues in a regular residential. (RIP Plumbros you've been incorporated?)
I do wish they would've gone back and updated Elevators and allowed a High-End Apartment experience such as Building Maids, Doormen, Receptionist, a basement Irwin, etc.
MULTIFUNCTIONAL LOTS
This would've actually shocked me and 100% made the pack worth it, if they'd given us both the ability to make apartments and make a bar beneath me.
The Multifunctional lot would've worked the exact same way and allowed for storefront RENTALS (but I imagine this would make GTW useless to those who only use the Retail system)
WORLD
9 lots!? BFFR.
:Conspiracy Theory Side Rant: I think they had planned for water lots. The bottom of that map is wayyyy too empty both in world and in world view. I think they hit a snag in coding and instead of delaying to figure it out they scrapped water lots and pushed out this pack and that's why we also can't build on the waterfront lot in Sulani. Nothing can sway me. :End:
It's a pretty... empty world. I wish there was less set dressing and more lots. The cave isn't nearly as cool as the one in Horse Ranch and I could do without it. It really just punched home all the rabbitholes (like seriously Sims 4: For Rabbitholes) and I don't even dislike rabbitholes. I wanted more rabbitholes in Growing Together and less in this pack.
CULTURE
I'm not SEA but I love broad representation, so I love the new dances, love the squat toilet, the food, the night market, the fish market. I just wish there was more! To be exact 10 more, but I'll detail 3.
MY NUMBER ONE WISH - the Animal Sanctuary - imagine the same shell but when you click on it you have the options for a guided Tiger Tour (the current system more or less, popups and all) and an Elephant Walk where it takes you to a TIMED HIDDEN LOT EVENT (also what happened to hidden lots) with elephants that will walk around with the possibility of being drenched in mud, feed them a banana, wave, etc (nothing too crazy as even in a video game I want to remain ethical... to animals) Also would've been a great opportunity for EA to partner with an ethical animal sanctuary and spread awareness. One animal I would've been content. Two. Three. EA would've blown my mind. Imagine the First Person POV in-game and those Safari Cars driving in the BG.

MY NUMBER TWO WISH - Surfing (child+ in water, toddler+ training)- I'm still awed by how we didn't get surfing with Island Living and now with this golden second opportunity they didn't give it to us once again! It would work like this: an invisible marker (in live mode) that we place in Build/Buy and when we click on the water we'd get the option to practice surfing. Waves won't simulate without the marker, they'd go through the surfing animations depending on skill level, and the marker could even designate where the sim would pop up after they wash out. This could be its own fleshed out thing with surf training in water and on land, playable lifeguard, surf competitions/career, injuries, but I would've taken just surfing.
MY NUMBER THREE WISH - Muay Thai - as an activity (child+) AND apart of a Fighter career. I'll never expect an active Fighter career from EA as that's too many animation cycle possibilities for them for some reason but could've been a great opportunity to give us Boxing 2.0 and become full-time World Class Fighter.
Quick 4-10
4. Boats! Group boats! Tour boats (even as a rabbithole, might as well go all in if you're going to give them to us)
5. River rafting (just more water activities would've been great)
6. Sunken ship hidden lot (deep diving to a hidden lot) / more snorkeling spots (though I understand snorkeling is a draw in for IL)
7. Hiking (I know we've gotten hiking essentially in the last two EPs but this would've been a great EP for it and/or give us a climbing mountain experience like in SE... but green)
8. Harvestables - tea, spices, fruit.
9. A TukTuk Tour (cute to say and if we only got one rabbithole this would've been fun for my tourist sims)
10. Botanical Garden. At the bottom b/c even EA didn't care enough about this. Seriously, no new flowers?
Secret 11. Night Market Worker, would've been nice if the reason a night market stall was empty was because you could come up and work it, sell at it like any other selling table or have it be its own job.
SPEAKING OF SECRETS.
Breaking and Entering to snoop through a Sims things when I can do it through multiple different interaction is cucking me and I don't like that. Just give me burglars. Or update the Klepto trait to not have a cooldown (sure, there are mods for this but EA shouldn't depend on modders to give us something they're teasing)
In that same vein CONSEQUENCES, I don't want my sim to just get into a fight. Arrest them. Send them to jail. Give me some cross pack combability with GTW and let me use that lot for once to report theft and/or give me NPC Cops to fight instead.
And my biggest gripe so far, for a pack that I haven't personally played, are the SECRETS themselves. I hate how much EA infantilizes its players while simultaneously being the same game with a plant that eats people and a murder apartment. The secrets, which are a fun mechanic, just seem so blah. Not only because they also seem random but they're also just... childish. (I get T for Teen, but I feel like most of the player base are adults) Give me SPICY SIM SECRETS: who's having an affair, who's faked their death, who has a literal skeleton in their closet, who's embezzled money, who's proudly the weekend (Also a great mechanic to make their occult states a secret) ! Make the blackmail worth it and make it more than $100 dollars. If a Landgraab has a secret love child out there and I find out they're wiring me 10k a week for life, at least. If I can't have consequences, give me hot tea! Also sure, I could keep their secret but also let me gossip about it to other people and get in a fight because I didn't keep their secret. It's a good game mechanic but it's a wasted opportunity.
MISCELLANEOUS: and this is nitpicking but I would've wanted an animation of the child drawing out the hopscotch and marble circle instead of one you just put down in Build/Buy. Other than that I love having more things for them to do and the collection system for marbles but I want more marbles.
Okay, off to watch Kdramas. I will post regular game screenshots... eventually. I'm prepping for Joy of Life. It's my first real generational challenge (2nd challenge overall, I got to baby 79 in 100 baby before I just stopped)

I was curious, are you in any fandoms? Or in general like a thing a lot.
oooohkay so. I'm not in any fandoms really, I don't watch online media enough to really say I'm in a fandom
HOWEVER
I am a HUGE science nerd. Especially about biology. I am constantly researching animals and their behavior especially with ocean animals and reptiles. I also really love insects. I'm planning to have a reptile/insect keeping room one day because I love them so much. I have literally told my girlfriend I rather have a blue tegu than a dog. I don't really like furry things all that much if I'm being honest, I relate a lot more to the types of animals people claim are unable to love. Like yeah they probably don't get the burst of oxycotin that humans get about things, but getting a lizard or snake to trust you enough to be held without pitching a fit is amazing!! They're demonized so much in media and I adore them. My main special interest is also sharks so take that for what you will. I relate a little too much to animals that people make out to be "evil".
I also have a big interest in psychology. My brain is ten different levels of fucked so I kinda like doing research into how brains normally function or hell, even how my brain functions. Like the fact that people with schizophrenia are (I think) 80% more likely to experience insomnia than the average person! I just thought I was bad at sleeping but no there's a reason for it! But I'm also a big fan about the science behind human sexuality. I won't get too into the facts of it cuz a lot of it is NSFW, but looking a the science behind getting it on and how it affects the brain and how fetishes and kinks form, ITS SO COOL. I also collect vintage erotica and gay porn because of this gkjdkjlkfldkgl.
I also just generally have a big love for queer history, learning about the aids crisis and the struggles that our community has faced but also just the fact that we've ALWAYS been here... It makes me feel less alone.
And like the last main thing I'm into is spirituality type stuff. I'm actually a certified pagan priest irl, but my disabilities and life circumstances have made me need to take a really big step back from the work I've been doing. But I've always fueled my work in this with the fact I have seen SO MANY people do it the wrong way, that I want to be a guiding force in doing it the right way.
Besides that, I'm really big into the punk anarchist scene, I like the vulture culture community on tumblr here and have a few specimens myself, I build legos and models a lot, I like art (obviously), I'm learning how to do leather, metal, and wood working, and also building costumes or restoring old clothes/shoes. I like music and singing a lot now that my voice has dropped from testosterone, I play Minecraft and the Sims a lot in my free time, I'm not big on video games but I'm trying to get into TF2 again. I'm getting pretty good at the Pokemon Trading Card Game, as well as Magic the Gathering (Magic is much slower than Pokemon TCG if I'm being honest, that game is complicated.)
To be honest most of what I watch on youtube is documentaries, food reviews, and reddit videos, haven't found any youtubers I'm particularly into. Honestly, I spend most of my time scrolling through tumblr and listening to rock music because I'm two weeks away from finally getting to go home after getting stuck in Texas for seven months and I'm kinda stuck in wait mode. Hopefully once I'm back in Chicago, I'll be doing a lot more hobby wise. I might even share some of it here if I get my old camera back.
But yeah, that was a big old ramble, I know it's weird for me to be on the fandom website and not be in any fandoms but it honestly takes a LOT for me to get into series of any kind. 100% of the series or fandoms I'm "into" it just cuz I have an alter from their source. Either way I hope this accurately answered your question! I appreciate being sent stuff a lot!

I used to absolutely hate cheat codes in games. I think that because of my autism I took the word “cheat” too literally and it made using cheat codes feel wrong and unethical. I disliked them to the point where I would get upset at my sister if she used them on my computer (I didn’t care if she used them any other place (her things are her business), just the things that belonged to me).
But, the strange thing is that I didn`t dislike all cheat codes, I actually used cheat codes frequently myself. In Minecraft, for example, I didn’t mind using cheat codes because, 1. They had to be enabled, and enabling cheat codes meant that cheating was allowed, so there wasn’t anything unethical about it because it was part of the parameter of the game. And 2. There were no clear parameters for the game. In creative mode you could do everything anyways, so cheat codes didn’t make the game any different, and in survival mode you had to (again) enable cheats, so survival mode with cheats became its own sort of middle game mode between creative and survival.
In other games, like the sims, however I would only use building cheats (like bb.moveobjects and bb.enablefreebuild, even bb.ignregameplayunlocksentitlement (or something like that)) and cas.fulleditmode. I think because sims is a life simulator I got very obsessed on the “life simulating” part and wanted to make it as realistic as possible, so even thought cheats are part of the game using things like money cheats felt like cheating because you don’t just magically get money in real life. I refused to use any cheats that made the game easier, because to me the game was supposed to portray life the way it is, and my experience with life wasn’t easy, and since cheats were always enabled it felt the same as cheating in a game of chess. It’s always possible, but it’s unethical unless you’ve specified that cheating is ok, and I never really got to specify that when starting a game.
Now I don’t care about using cheats, and I use loads of cheats all the time, because I’ve come to realise that even tough I don’t have to specify that I want cheats to be part of the game, it’s already an agreed upon parameter. The creators of the game added the ability to use cheat codes and (I’m pretty sure) they even added the codes, if they didn’t want the codes to be used, they probably wouldn’t have removed the possibility to use them (or at least made it harder. I don’t know if you noticed, but I’m not 100% sure how cheat codes work), because its not like they don’t know about them. I also realised that the point of the game isn’t to represent real life in the most realistic sense possible, but rather for me to do whatever the hell I want and represent and play life the way I want to. I’m not entirely sure what triggered this change of perspective, but it was probably just me getting older and gaining newer understandings of how things work… and maybe also getting more into coding and game design and understanding those things a little better (I’m not saying I understand it well, just better).
I don’t know if this makes sense, it might feel like im jumping through hoops or something, but this makes complete sense to me.

The sleepy town of Wormwood

A powerful witch has cast a spell over the town, isolating it from the rest of the world. Perpetually 1956, it exists in a stasis, unchanging over the years. No one has ever questioned the way things are, never thought about why nothing seems to change from year to year. Will anyone ever break free of the curse and bring Wormwood into the present or will it forever remain the same? I really love this hood and despite having so many issues with it, I still love playing it (and so does @nonsensical-pixels who is the one that inspired me to dig around to get most of the original files back because she was making me jealous). It's a little more silly but there are some pretty dark undertones as well. I know there's a couple issues but they really aren't a problem if you play the hood as a standalone or with non-PV subhoods. There is an overarching mystery/plot :) Who really is Moira and...is she really that bad? Is she actually evil or is there more to it? What's going on in the Moore house and why is there a strange smell wafting from it? The Tegan's sure are an odd bunch, is the picture perfect family of blonde hair and blues eyes a coincidence or something more sinister? Will Olive Specter finally find some good luck and love in Ocean Grisly? Sam Spyers is determined to figure out what's happening in Wormwood, but can she figure it out before it's too late?
There are 3 files included: Required, Highly Suggested, and Wormwood itself. The Required folder contains various CC that I used, almost entirely from Michelle's recolors from MTS (merged) + the Bespoke build set (merged), the (optional) Prison mod from Simlogical is not required but sort of ruins the immersion for two families, there are various plants from Parsimonious, fences from Smug Tomato Basket, more plants from the Castaway conversion site, the Sims 2 store sets, and unfortunately a really old merged buy mode folder that I genuinely do not remember what's in it other than a ton of Veranka's stuff. I don't think I used too much from this folder and most of it has the creator in the item descriptions. In all, it's about 1GB of CC, so it's not exactly that much. CC lite, I guess? Most of it is just to get the general vibe of the hood and can be replaced and even then, the bulk of it is simply recolors or bespoke wallpapers. I used this template from enchantedw0lf on MTS to create the hood. Townies may or may not be bald. No, I will not explain. As the first hood I've ever made, it has been through hell and back. I actually completely finished a more complex and involved version of it before managing to corrupt it due to a simple misclick in simpe and thinking I had a backup but not actually :):):) Then entirely remade it from scratch again but it was a hacked down version with fewer sims and simpler plot lines (rifp cowboy farmer who secretly wanted to be a pretty ballerina and had a room full of mannequins facing a stage where he'd dance for them). All this to say that I didn't make this hood 100% correctly and it has some...quirks. When I remade it, I forgot to disable stealth hoods (you'd think I'd have learned my lesson from this when I decided to make Natosi later lol), and I simply can't be bothered to delete townies n stuff. I don't have the energy or willpower to clean it up. The hood itself is still very pretty and fun to play, I think the odd quirks actually fit in perfectly and helps give the vibes I wanted for it!
