OKAY! It’s time for the Chimera Baby Lore Post!!

🌼 How did you come up with the OC's name?

In both a meta and non-meta sense, Chimera Baby’s name is probably the most notable part about them. The name Chimera Baby is a reference to m-flo and LiSA’s Tripod Baby, ft in the game Shadow the Hedgehog. For over 6 months that was her official non-official name, as I couldn’t decide on a name for her. I received over 15 name suggestions, but in July I ran a poll at which point she was dubbed Mira!

As it turns out, Mira happens to be the name of a binary star system. Two stars in a dance doomed to end in supernova—rather fitting for a chimera character, wouldn’t you say? I like to imagine Shadow was the one to name Mira something meaningful and space-themed like that, meanwhile Sonic named the other child something totally arbitrary (“His name is Mochi because he's white lol”)

On that note, I’ve also decided Sonic calls Mira “Chili” exclusively, because its silly and he would. So Mira, Chimera Baby, CB, and Chili are all names she goes by!

I like to depict them anywhere from baby to teenager, but in their most recent incarnation I’d say they’re somewhere between 15-17

At the moment no. She’s generally too aloof and off putting for anyone to approach her with romantic intent, but maybe in the future….

Besides combat training, CB enjoys the occasional outdoor activity. Sometimes her friends goad her into a game of soccer (which she is an absolute beast at), but she generally prefers solo sports such as archery, rock climbing, or hiking. Sometimes her brother convinces her to fish with him, but she finds it pretty boring (but would never turn him down)

💃 What do they do best?

Mira excels at hand-to-hand combat. As the reigning champion of Chao Karate, Mira takes their martial arts training very seriously. They also possess exemplary control over chaos energy, and incorporates this into their technique. While they may not be as fast as their fathers, they make up for it with not just raw power, but an extremely disciplined technique.

Her skills also happen to make her an amazing breakdancer, but she’ll break your face if you ask her to demonstrate.

A tie between making her baby brother laugh for the first time and the time she drew first blood for the first time in a fight with Shadow

The aftermath of almost drowning as a child after she saved a chao friend.

Basically its a mix of me poking fun at the phenomena of Sonadow fan-children all looking kinda similar, and this plush reminding me of actual chimerism in animals and wanting to create a character with that characteristic! Over the months my ironic love for her has grown into genuine fondness—so while she remains primarily as a parody, she’s also a character I’m having fun exploring concepts with <3 Much like both Shadow and Sonic the Hedgehog, you can take her as seriously or not seriously as you wish!

Non-binary and trans (you decide what direction). And she’s bisexual bc i love bisexuals <3

One little brother Mochi—he is a perfect angel who is also her closest friend. She adores him, but you wouldn’t know from seeing them interact.

⚠️ What is the OC's relationship w/their parents like?

So I mentioned that Mira was reared in a chao garden, where her dads basically only visited once every couple days if not longer (Sonic and Shadow are not very attentive parents, go figure). However, this was honestly a perfectly fine arrangement as I headcanon mobian children don’t need the same level of parental contact as human children (Hell, Cream is kind of an outlier FOR having a present parental figure in her life).

That being said, I imagine Shadow spent more time with her when she was really young before stepping away, which made her really latch onto Shadow more than Sonic during that time. Especially seeing as Sonic is the most laissez-faire parent ever but simultaneously was the type to abandon her on a floating platform in midair with a trail of badniks so she can learn how to homing attack.

Much like her father before her, her latent Black Arms genes have caused her to develop a burning desire to destroy Shadow—a fact that Shadow seems strangely indifferent about. While this fact has pretty much wrecked their previous relationship, there are circumstances where Mira will put aside her goal and work with Shadow against a common enemy or towards a common objective (of course, this doesn’t stop her from trying to stab him in the back during these operations).

Her relationship with Sonic has remained mostly the same, with Sonic treating her much more like a friend or little sister than a daughter. They have lunch together at least once a month, and usually she’ll go to him for advice on any social interaction matter—conversations that have become much more frequent now that she’s begun to make friends.

💗 What do you like most about the OC?

I think I popped off with her design—chimerism is such an interesting concept and I loved balancing her two sets of genes without making it seem too busy. I also love her dynamic of trying to kill Shadow and how you would think her growing up in chao garden basically alone would have contributed to that, but that's not the case at all she’s just like that <3

‼️ Who is your OC's arch-nemesis or rival?

Shadow the Hedgehog is her self-proclaimed nemesis, but she makes a fair share of enemies and rivals wherever she goes due to her punch-first-ask-questions-later attitude. One notable rival is another OC of mine named Sauvik the Badger—another cold and brooding anti-hero much like her. Sauvik and Mochi are something of a team, but being a protective big sister she wants him to stay away from her brother. This generally leads to a fight that Mochi is inevitably forced to break up.

you were friends at first, but then the whole injury thing happened.

“why would you give up? a lot of famous players have had injuries in the past, but they still managed to come back! why would you throw your dream in the trash bin like that?”

“you’ve never understood me, then”

after expressing your opinion on why he shouldn’t give up on his dream while he can still play, you started arguing for everything.

it was heartbreaking to see: you, his best friend since childhood, being treated like a complete stranger.

even more heartbreaking was the fact that you liked him and you couldn’t stand the way he was giving up on his lifetime dream.

chigiri absolutely hates you when you’re right.

you started to avoid him and he started to avoid you. it was a mutual thing.

he actually hoped for you to come back, because he realised he acted like a baby.

however, he hasn’t even seen you for months.

chigiri fucked up, completely.

you meet again at a café (unplanned, you’re still not sure how to behave towards him)

“oh, y/n, hi” he mutters with his coffee in hand.

“what do you want?” it wasn’t supposed to come off that harsh, however, chigiri’s face changes expression.

“nothing” he wants to slap himself.

“do you have a minute?” you ask, sitting at a table in the corner “we have to talk and you know what i’m about to say, i guess”

he sits down and huffs.

“i’m kinda tired. we were best friends before the injury thing, and now we look like we spoke once in our lives” you say, keeping your voice as low as possible “your behaviour is annoying”

he knows you’re right, so he just murmurs a “i’m sorry”

you keep up talking “i was really upset when you told me those horrible things. i felt betrayed”

chigiri wasn’t expecting it to be this bad. he totally fucked up.

“I’ll get straight to the point, i had and probably still have feelings for you, but i don’t know if i should follow my heart or my brain right now, because you acted like a bitch with me”

“i am very sorry, y/n. i don’t know what i was thinking when i said that. i was too scared of hurting myself again and i almost gave up on my dream. it was stupid, i know you were right, but i didn’t want to accept it”

you breathe in deeply. “i accept your excuses, i’m sorry too. i shouldn’t have pushed that conversation that far”

“but you were right. during my time in blue lock, one of my friends told me the same things you told me back then. i realised that i was the one at fault.”

“actually… staying without you all this time was hard” he confesses.

you’re his polar opposite: messy, loud, extrovert, creative. the living copy of phoebe buffay.

“the space on my floor was finished, i took a bit of yours”

you leave your stuff around the house on purpose, just to see him getting mad.

barou, in reality, loves cleaning, so he is actually satisfied when everything is back to its place.

suddenly, one of your friends asks if you want a room near your university.

obviously, living closer to your department is better than living where you’re now, since public transport is often crowded or late.

when you leave he’s in paradise.

despite the first few days, barou actually misses your mess.

his days are pretty empty without picking up your stuff and cleaning your shared room.

he thought he hated you for that, but he loved cleaning your bedroom.

and that’s why he calls you after a couple of weeks “can you come back, please?”

you’re astonished. why would he want you to move back to his apartment? is he the same person that got mad every time you left something out of place?

notes: as usual we’re pretending that reader and seth are both 20+ in this. also pretending that the pack and cullens have a good relationship at this point.

you sat in the cullen’s living room, surrounded by both the pack and the entire cullen family as you all prepared for the upcoming battle against victoria’s newborn army.

your sister, bella, and her boyfriend were seemingly the root cause of all of this seeing as they were the reason victoria had lost her mate, james. you had very little interest in the whole thing if you were being honest. you had only recently been turned into a vampire and were still adjusting to that and dating a werewolf who happened to be the one and only seth clearwater. 

seth had his arm wrapped around you, allowing you to curl into his chest while you both listened to carlisle and sam discussing the battle plan.

“i was thinking it would be wise to have y/n down on the field with us in case there are more newborns that alice saw in her vision.” carlisle said, everyone nodding in agreement. 

you gnawed at your lower lip subconsciously, slightly nervous about the idea, “i still can’t control it that well. i don’t want to accidentally hurt anyone.” you said referencing your new powers.

shortly after being turned into a vampire you discovered that you had the ability to create a sonic boom “bubble” of sorts with your hand but were still working on controlling it. 

“not gonna lie i do not want to be the one to get hit with that again and i don’t think paul does either.” emmett teased, referencing your mishap a few months back where you had accidentally used your powers on the two of them. the sonic boom left both men completely disoriented for the rest of the day. 

if you were still human you imagined your cheeks would’ve been a bright pink by now. “it was an accident.” you groaned, burying your face in the crook of seth’s arm and seth chuckled, rubbing your arm with his free hand. 

“it definitely didn’t feel like it.” paul added jokingly, both men laughing at your embarrassment over the whole thing, and you let out another groan, mentally trying to come up with any good excuse for the mishap but sam came to your rescue.

“that’s beside the point,” sam noted, shooting both paul and emmett looks for getting off-topic yet again before continuing, “y/n we can practice with it tomorrow some more before the battle so you’ll be ready. i’m sure paul and emmett would be more than happy to be test subjects for you.” 

both paul and emmett exchanged a look at that and seth chuckled softly, “so seth will be with bella and i and the rest of you will be down on the field?” edward confirmed, adding to sam’s attempt to get everyone back on track.

you shook your head, “absolutely not. i’m not leaving him up there.” your grip on seth’s free hand tightened in a weak show of force.

“i’ll be fine.” seth cooed, pressing a quick kiss to the crown of your head and you looked up at him shaking your head.

“bella why don’t you just stay at home with edward? you’re safer that way and then seth can stay with me.” you turned to your sister who had been relatively quiet this entire time. 

her cheeks heated up and she shook her head, “i’m not leaving him either.” 

“no one is asking you to leave him. edward-” you started and he threw his hands up in defeat, shaking his head. 

“i already tried talking her out of it y/n.” he reasoned and you groaned, turning to seth for assistance who also shrugged.

esme jumped in then, “why don’t we switch out seth with embry then?” she suggested thoughtfully and you nodded while embry let out a loud groan at that suggestion. 

“esme, as much as i appreciate the suggestion, no way.” embry noted, chuckling as you let out another sigh, leaning further into seth.

seth soothingly pressed his lips to your hair again before suggesting to everyone, “why doesn’t she stay with me and edward can send her down if you need her?” 

you nodded, happy to know at least seth was in agreement with you. it was quiet for a moment while everyone pondered the idea before carlisle broke the silence, “i think that would be okay. and you’d stay with edward and bella if she needed to come down?” 

you felt seth nod, “totally.” he noted, squeezing your side comfortingly.

“then i think that’s a fine idea.” carlisle said, everyone nodding in agreement before he smiled and added, “okay so we’ll get packed up to leave tomorrow morning and everyone will meet at the battle site tomorrow afternoon?”

everyone nodded again, happy to have finally come to an agreement. 

… 

the next morning you and seth had met everyone at the battle site. while jacob, edward, and bella sorted out who was going to carry her up the mountain, carlisle and esme helped you practice getting your power under control.

“carlisle there’s no way this is going to be safe.” you groaned, getting frustrated with not being able to get it under control.

carlisle nodded, “i still think it would be useful to have down here. you’ve been able to control the general direction of it which is good. i think as long as you can do that we’ll be fine. just don’t aim it towards any of us.” he noted thoughtfully and you sighed, sitting down next to seth who had been laying on the ground, patiently watching you in his wolf form while you practiced.

seth lifted his head to rest it in your lap and you sighed, running your fingers through his fur in an attempt to soothe your frustrations. “i guess,” you sighed again before adding, “thanks for helping me practice.” you smiled softly at carlisle and esme who both returned the smile. 

“of course sweetheart,” esme cooed, “why don’t we take a break and get the tents set up for tonight? that might help take your mind off things.” 

you nodded, seth and you getting up and following esme and carlisle up the mountain.

by the time that jacob, bella, and edward had gotten up the mountain, you, seth, and the rest of the cullens had finished setting up the campsites for the night. edward and bella had their own tent while the rest of you had set up a larger tent about half a mile away. although it was primarily for the wolves, you and the rest of the cullens (aside from edward) had decided to spend some time in there with them going over last-minute battle plans before getting settled for the night.

while the remaining cullens went out for one last hunt before the battle, the pack got ready to sleep. you had laid down and cuddled up with seth, listening to the pack’s quiet nighttime talks about their theories for how the jacob/bella/edward tent situation was going to go.

seth didn’t seem to be paying much attention, just stroking his fingers through your hair while you soothingly rubbed your hand up and down his chest. “there’s just no way jacob is getting out of that alive. no way.” you heard paul say, everyone, including yourself, laughing softly at the remark.

you pressed a kiss to seth’s chest before peeking up at him, “did i tell you what she told me about their night last night?” you murmured and he smiled down at you, shaking his head. 

“he proposed.” you murmured again and seth’s jaw dropped. 

“he proposed?” he emphasized, slightly louder than you would’ve liked which led to the rest of the pack catching on. 

“edward proposed?” jared nearly screamed and you sat up, loudly shushing him before laughing at the whole ordeal.

“yes he proposed; you can’t tell anyone though!” you emphasized and everyone broke out into laughter, seth pulling you back down to lay on his chest. 

“that makes it so much worse. they’re engaged and edward is watching her cuddle another man?” jared crowed, everyone cracking up over the thought.

paul chimed in then, “there is no way you’re convincing me that man doesn’t have an embarrassment kink. ain’t no other way he’d be letting it slide like that.” 

you were nearly in tears at this point, laughing so hard you had to bury your face into the crook of seth’s arm to muffle your laughter. “alright, alright that’s enough. go to bed before he starts reading your thoughts, idiots.” sam ordered, though you could hear the teasing undertone to his voice. everyone quieted down a few moments later, seth allowing you to curl back up into him before he drifted off a few minutes later.

…

the next morning the wolves had woken up bright and early to find out jacob had, in fact, found out that bella was engaged to edward which led to a very pissed-off jacob, satisfied edward, and stressed out bella. but what else was new?

you thought that was the extent of it so you and seth had made your way over to bella and edward’s campsite to get ready only to see bella kissing jacob about 20 yards away and edward watching. and, although very interesting, you had bigger problems so you and seth got ready for the battle while that trio sorted out their issues.

seth had shifted and you sat with him quietly gossiping about how awful that whole situation was while you waited for the battle to start. 

“y/n the battle just started.” edward alerted you and seth, both of you nodding and getting up, “victoria and riley are nearby - get ready.” 

you pressed a quick kiss to seth’s head before allowing him to duck behind one of the snow-covered hills to hide while you waited for victoria and riley to appear. you stepped over to stand next to your sister while edward stepped forward in a protective manner.

the snow crunching about 20 feet away alerted you to both riley and victoria’s presence. “riley… riley biers right?” edward asked, both of you watching the two of them wearily.

“your parents have been looking for you everywhere.” edward said softly, a stark contrast to his defensive stance he currently held.

riley shook his head, “no they haven’t. my parents are dead. victoria -” riley looked up to her while she remained crouched in the tree above him and she smiled softly down at him.

“they’re dead riley.” she cooed as edward shook his head.

“riley she’s lying to you. they’ve been looking for you everywhere. you haven’t seen the posters? they’re all over forks.” he added before victoria let out a low hiss, looking back down at riley.

she frowned, “i told you, they play mind tricks on you.” you couldn’t tell if she was angry, sad, or what but she was definitely putting you on edge. you put your arm in front of bella protectively.

“if he moves, get back and stay low.” you murmured to her and she nodded, looking from you to riley nervously.

suddenly riley jumped towards you, nearly catching you before seth jumped out from his spot behind the snow hill, biting into riley’s shoulder and dragging him to the side. “you’re never going to get another chance like this, victoria!” edward shouted over riley’s screams.

you pushed bella back, mentally cursing edward for enticing her like that and ran forward to help edward deal with victoria.

unfortunately for the two of you, she was a much better fighter than the two of you anticipated and she had quickly managed to get edward into a headlock.

you could hardly focus with how fast everything was moving. between bella’s and riley’s screams, you weren’t sure where to help out. “just do it y/n!” edward screamed and you knew what he meant.

you needed to use your power. 

you backed up, putting your hands in front of you just as you had practiced, and aimed for victoria’s head. you focused on victoria’s head, the smell of blood overcoming your senses forcing you to turn just as you released. 

instead of hitting victoria, you had hit yourself.

in an instant all your senses were overtaken by the sound of the sonic boom. you couldn’t see, feel, smell, or taste anything other than the sonic boom and fuck, it was painful.

for the first time since becoming a vampire you felt real pain. despite your inability to see anything, everything felt like it was spinning. your ears were ringing loudly, your stomach churned, and you had completely collapsed onto the ground.

“y/n!” you could hear faintly seth yelling but you weren’t sure where his voice was coming from.

“call carlisle.” you could hear edward’s voice too but also couldn’t get a grasp on where it was coming from. 

from seth’s perspective, you were collapsed onto the ground, seemingly unconscious after hitting yourself with your own sonic boom.

despite the fact that you did not need air, you started gasping in air, coughing as you rolled onto your side. you could feel seth’s hand rubbing up and down your side, at least you could feel him.

“you’re okay. you’re okay.” he murmured, continuing to rub your side as you heaved. 

“everything is spinning.” you gasped out, finally able to at least communicate with him. 

“i know, i know. carlisle is coming.” seth cooed as you attempted to push yourself up onto your hands and knees, failing miserably as you collapsed back into seth, still unable to feel much other than the impact of the sonic boom. “shhhh…lay down y/n. you need to calm down.”

you groaned as another wave of nausea washed through you causing you to dry heave and cough again. “i don’t know where you are.” you whimpered, still disoriented, attempting to roll over again but you felt seth’s hand grab your hip, holding you in place.

“‘m right here y/n. promise i‘m right here.” he sounded like he was about 30 feet away from you but the way his hand was rubbing your hip said otherwise. you quite literally had no way to ground yourself.

“just stay still y/n. you’re going to make it worse if you keep moving.” he cooed again, attempting to calm you down and at least try and bring you back to your senses. 

you grabbed onto something, you weren’t sure if it was seth or the ground, squeezing your eyes shut as you attempted to reorient yourself.

you weren’t sure how long it had been, but when you attempted to reopen your eyes, everything was still spinning profusely but you could at least kind of see now. “shhh… there you go. can you see me now?” you could hear seth asking.

you rolled over, getting onto your hands and knees, trying to figure out where he was. you felt his hands cup at your jaw and suddenly he was in front of you. very blurry and spinning, but you knew it was him. 

“not really.” you murmured and you could faintly see him nodding before turning and saying something to someone, you assumed it was edward. 

seth released his grip on your jaw and allowed you to drop your head, attempting to ground yourself by taking deep breaths despite the fact that vampires can’t breathe. you felt his hand gently running up and down your spine as you heaved, centering yourself on the feeling of his touch while you waited to regain your senses.

you closed your eyes again.

when you reopened your eyes, seth was still spinning, blurry, and crouched in front of you but this time carlisle was with him too. the two of them were talking about something but, to be completely honest, it hurt whenever you tried to focus on anything but seth’s touch.

you looked up at seth who mouthed something to you that you couldn’t hear, the ringing in your ears still painfully loud. he allowed you to take a moment before trying again, “there you go babe. are you feeling better?” he asked softly, using the hand that wasn’t rubbing your back to cup your jaw gently. 

you shook your head, whimpering and he nodded, “everything is spinning and it’s ringing.” you murmured and he nodded again.

you focused on his lips, still having a hard time hearing him, “carlisle wants you to lay down, can you do that for me?” he asked softly and you nodded, hoping you heard him correctly. he then helped you lay down and bury your face in his lap while you prayed this would go away quickly.

in between the spinning and ringing, you suddenly made out a loud cracking sound followed by a scream that sounded like one of the wolves. and, in your disoriented state, you had convinced yourself it was seth, despite the fact that he was currently holding you. you immediately rolled off of him, screaming for him and attempting to get up and failing miserably, collapsing back into seth’s arms.

you weakly fought against his grip, still disoriented, before he used the hand that wasn’t holding you up to grip your jaw and force you to look at him, “hey, hey i’m right here. i’m right here. that’s not me, okay?” you whimpered, pressing your hands to his chest, squeezing at the soft fabric of his t-shirt in another futile attempt to ground yourself. 

“i don’t know what’s going on,” you sobbed into his t-shirt, “and i can’t see you.” you sobbed out again. and, although you could still tell it was him despite the spinning around you, you were by no means comfortable.

“i know, i know. i promise i’m right here, we’re gonna get you home in a minute, okay? you just need to lay down right now. you’re making it worse every time you get up.” he cooed, holding you tightly against his chest, waiting for you to nod before he helped you back onto the ground, letting you rest your head in his lap.

you weren’t sure how much time had gone by but soon enough you could hear carlisle talking with seth about how to get you home, “hey,” seth cooed, gently squeezing your hip so you’d open your eyes and look at him. unfortunately for you, the spinning and ringing were still pretty bad but at least he didn’t sound like he was 30 feet away from you. “do you think you can stand?” seth asked softly, hand still stroking your side soothingly.

you nodded, determined to get up despite the spinning in your head. you rolled off of seth’s lap, pushing yourself up to your hands and knees before attempting to stand and almost immediately collapsing into his waiting arms, “you’re okay, you’re okay.” you could hear him murmur soothingly. he held you up, allowing you to lean against his chest, squeezing his shirt tightly as his rubbed his free hand up and down your back.

“there you go,” he cooed softly after he felt you standing a bit more on your own and starting to support some of your weight. “you’re doing great.” he murmured and you felt him press his lips to your hair. 

“do you want to try walking to the car? it’s about 20 feet away.” he asked softly and you looked up, trying to figure out where the car was. although you still were dizzy, it definitely wasn’t as bad as before as you could faintly make out emmett’s black jeep. 

you nodded, slowly releasing your fists’ grip on seth’s t-shirt and leaning into his side before attempting to walk. it took a few seconds but soon enough you were sort of walking. seth had his arm wrapped around you, holding most of your weight up as you attempted to make your way to the jeep.

“hey, hey, wrong way,” seth cooed his grip on your waist tightening as he reoriented you towards the jeep, “it’s this way.” the spinning must’ve been worse than you thought.

after what felt like 10 minutes, you reached the jeep and seth helped you into the back seat and allowed you to lay down in his lap when you got in. “good job.” he murmured, leaning down and pressing his lips to your temple for a soft kiss. 

suddenly you felt a cold hand sliding on your thigh, gently rubbing at your hip, “how are you feeling?” it was rosalie. you opened your eyes, blinking a few times to try and orient yourself again before you made out her figure sitting in the passenger seat and looking back at you. 

“not good.” you murmured before emmett’s booming laugh filled the car followed by the sound of a loud smack as roaslie hit his head. 

“hey!” he almost shouted and you groaned, burying your face in seth’s lap, he quieted down before continuing, “it’s definitely karma for her doing it to me a few months ago.” 

you huffed knowing you couldn’t argue with him, and instead opted to grab at seth’s thigh before you found his hand, lacing your fingers together and squeezing tightly. “we’ll be home in a little bit. just keep your eyes closed. it helps.” emmett said from his spot in the driver’s seat and you nodded, allowing yourself to close your eyes and relax into seth’s lap.

after the seemingly never-ending ride was over, you pulled into the cullen’s driveway and seth helped you out of the car, allowing you to lean into him for support. “good job babe.” he cooed, arm wrapped around your waist as he helped you up the stairs and into the cullen’s house.

“emmett said hot water helped. maybe we should run a bath?” rosalie suggested from her place behind you and you whined, leaning more into seth as he helped support you weight more. 

“that sounds good.” you could hear seth’s soft smile in his voice and you looked up at him to protest but he shook his head, “i’ll come in with you.” he reassured, pressing a kiss to your forehead before helping you up the stairs and into the master bathroom where rosalie had already started running a hot bath for you. 

she smiled when she saw you and you whimpered, leaning off of seth and into her arms, hugging her. although she wasn’t one to show much affection, she did seem to have a soft spot for you from what you could tell. she returned the favor, wrapping her arms around you and helping support your weight, “you’re alright, seth’s gonna help you with the bath, yea?” she asked softly and you nodded, looking up at her. 

“he’s gonna take good care of you, always does.” she reassured, tightening her grip on you momentarily before letting go and allowing seth to take you back into his arms. “i’m gonna get the bedroom set up with emmett for when you’re done. you just let me know if you need me and seth will get me, okay?” she asked softly and you nodded, smiling softly at her before she walked out, closing the door on her way out.

you could feel seth press another kiss to the top of your head, “see? you’re doing great.” seth murmured softly against your hair and you nodded, allowing him to help you sit at the edge of the tub so he could help you get undressed. 

you allowed him to help you out of your clothes before helping you into the tub, the hot water instantly calming you down a bit. you whimpered when you realized he wasn’t with you, looking over at him anxiously, “‘m coming. just gotta get undressed.” he cooed, cupping your jaw and pressing a quick kiss to your lips before stepping back to pull his shirt off. 

once he was undressed, he stepped in so he could sit behind you, allowing you to relax into him. “you’re doing so good babe.” he cooed after a moment, pressing his lips to the crown of your head soothingly.

you nodded, taking in another deep breath, deciding to keep your eyes shut while you relaxed against him. “what happened?” you asked softly, head rested against his bare chest as you intertwined your fingers with his.

“i didn’t see it but edward said bella tried to cut her arm with a rock and that must’ve distracted you. he said you turned and hit yourself instead of victoria on accident.” he cooed, taking your hands and pressing a kiss to them, “you scared me.” he murmured.

“‘m sorry.” you murmured, curling further into him and allowing him to wrap his arms around you and hold you to him. 

“nothing to be sorry for. ‘s not your fault. ‘m just glad you’re okay.” he reassured softly, pressing another kiss to the crown of your head.

you nodded, “what did i hear?” you asked softly, pausing before adding, “afterward i mean. i thought someone hurt you.” you murmured, drawing mindless shapes on his chest with your fingers.

seth nodded, “it was jacob. apparently they didn’t get all the newborns and one came out afterward. leah had it but jacob tried to help her out and the newborn got his arms around him. carlisle is with him now so i don’t know what happened but it didn’t look good.” he explained, giving you a soft squeeze. 

“is he gonna be okay?” you murmured, opening your eyes to peek up at him and he nodded.

“i think so. it didn’t look good but he’s a wolf. should heal pretty quickly.” he reassured, pressing his lips to your hair again.

you nodded, letting out a soft sigh and closing your eyes as you relaxed into his chest. you listened to his heartbeat, allowing the steady thumping to ground you while the two of you relaxed in the tub.

after a while, seth asked, “want me to wash your hair? promise i’ll be gentle.” you smiled, opening your eyes again and nodding.

he helped you shift so you were straddling his lap so you could wash his hair too. you held your hands out, allowing him to squirt some shampoo into your hands before you wove your hands into his hair, gently massaging his scalp as he did the same for you. 

despite your raging headache and pain quite literally everywhere, it was intimate. after washing the conditioner out of his hair and allowing him to reciprocate the action for you, he helped you out of the tub, drying you off before doing the same for himself. 

“rosalie brought you some comfy clothes.” he mused, as he helped you step into your underwear before helping you sit down so he could get the rest of your clothes from the neatly folded pile on the counter. “you want to wear a bra?” he asked softly, smiling at you as he held up the bra in question and you shook your head.

“didn’t think so.” he teased, tossing it to the side before helping you into one of his oversized t-shirts and old pair of sweatpants. after helping you sit back down, he got himself changed into a fresh pair of sweatpants and t-shirt. 

once he finished, you reached out for him from your place on the edge of the tub, both of you smiling as he helped you up, allowing you to lean into his side as you made your way into the master bedroom. he pulled back the covers, helping you into the bed, “i’m just gonna get the brush then i’ll be back, okay?” he asked softly, pressing another kiss to your forehead. 

“okay,” you paused before adding, “i love you.” you murmured, sitting up so you could lean against the headboard. 

he smiled, cupping your jaw in his hand before pressing another soft kiss to your lips, “i love you too.” he cooed, “i’ll be right back.” he smiled before heading back into the bathroom for the hair brush. 

as he stepped out, rosalie and esme came in. “oh honey,” esme cooed, stepping over to you and sitting at the edge of the bed, “how are you feeling?” she asked softly, gently squeezing your thigh through the covers. 

“better. everything hurts and the ringing is still there but i can see you all now.” you murmured and rosalie smiled, stepping over and sitting at the edge of the bed as well so she could stroke through your wet hair.

“that’s good, is seth getting the brush?” roaslie asked softly and you nodded, smiling as seth stepped back in holding the object in question.

“you want the honors?” he teased, handing rosalie the brush when she nodded and coming around foot of the bed so he could climb in with you.

you leaned into rosalie’s touch, allowing her to gently brush through your hair, “carlisle should be coming back to check on you soon.” esme cooed, gently stroking her fingers up and down your leg. 

you nodded, smiling as emmett stepped into the doorframe, leaning against the frame and chuckling when he saw your disheveled state, “hurts like a bitch right?” he teased and you giggled softly, nodding.

“sorry i didn’t believe you.” you mumbled, your smile betraying you and he chucked again.

“‘s fine.” he teased before turning his attention to seth, “you want anything to eat? i was gonna order some food but none of these vamps will eat.” he teased and you rolled your eyes. he always ate human food despite knowing he’d just throw it up later. 

seth grinned and nodded causing both you and emmett to laugh, “‘m sorry. i forget you need to eat.” you said softly, stroking your fingers through seth’s wet hair gently and he smiled, pressing his lips to your collarbone for a soft kiss.

“not your fault.” he cooed before turning his attention back to emmett, “what are we getting? i’m starved.” 

you giggled, allowing rosalie to finish brushing your hair while emmett and seth discussed which type of pizza they were going to get.

shortly after they decided on an extra large cheese pizza, esme, rosalie, and emmett left you two to relax for a while. you laid down, allowing seth to pull you into his chest, holding you against him, “i love you,” he murmured, “so much.” he cooed, kissing your forehead.

“i love you too.” you murmured, allowing him to slide his fingers under your shirt and stroke his fingers up and down your back soothingly. it didn’t take long for him to drift off, clearly exhausted from the overwhelming day. you relaxed into him too, allowing yourself to decompress, finally able to calm yourself down in his arms.

Tails for sure, bless. He’s the mechanic of the group, meaning he definitely has a lot of complicated thoughts in general, if his usual technobabble speeches are anything to go by. 

We’re shown he’s also quite thoughtful and prone to sharing his observations, two traits that can and will lead to him voicing out whatever thought flies through his head while he’s laying on bed. 

The questions range from "Wouldn’t it be cool if I tried to make a plane work with only one wing?" to "Do you think there are living creatures that are inherently undeserving of love?", depending on his mood for the night (inventor creativity and the kind of existential dread that only ever hits people at like, 2 in the morning, respectively).

Sonic tends to bounce off Tails’ ideas and give his own views on the question, because he loves talking with Tails. Well, to the best of his ability, that is; if difficult science jazz comes up he’s just gonna have to call it a day lol. And if any clearly negative question comes up, he's gonna answer with a hug instead.

I think Tails would like talking things out with Sonic, because he has pretty clear-cut opinions and a casual attitude to go with almost anything. It makes their late night conversations be really chill, usually :)

I honestly would say this one goes both ways!

When I read this question, the first scene that popped into my mind was that one Sonic Colours cutscene that I believe happened after shutting down the last generator. Sonic and Tails were commenting on what they should do once they stopped Eggman’s plans at the park, I think? And Sonic went, “let’s just go to a different park”, to which Tails replied “one that’s less evil than this one”. 

That simple exchange sent them both into such goofy chuckling, it was adorable. To me it’s a perfect representation of the way they make each other laugh. They both love teasing each other a bit and playing around with jokes, so usually, if one of them is smiling, the other one will be too.

This also plays into the ‘I’m happy if the person I love is’ trope, which just fits so well for them. Making the other crack out a nice laugh is part of their love language, and they’re both pretty good at it.

“Who hugs the other from behind?”

Sonic, of course! Not only because he loves how fluffy his partner's tails are, but because Tails can't really hug him from behind at all. Them hedgehog quills are really sharp at the tips, I bet xD

It’s much more comfortable for both of them if Sonic is the only one that does hugs from behind, thanks to their anatomy and height difference. Honestly, it’s like they’re built for this position in particular.

Sonic can just casually rest his chin on Tails’ shoulder while he works on his gadgets, and Tails himself can relax while nestled in Sonic’s arms. That way the affectionate gesture isn’t being disruptive or difficult for either of them.

“Who's more protective?”

They both would take a bullet for the other, no questions asked, but Sonic is the one that will always act more outwardly protective of Tails. It's in his nature.

He tends to have pretty intense reactions when he learns Tails got hurt or something happened to him, which feeds into my view.

In Boom cartoon he wants Tails to stop being his sidekick after he gets injured one (1) time, to make sure he won’t get hurt again. In Lost World he's actively pissed off and hating on the antagonists when Tails gets kidnapped. He was going through cyber corruption damnation during Frontiers and still held out for him.

Even in IDW comics, which I’m not particularly fond of, there’s a panel where Sonic tries to fight off Silver’s psychokinesis power just to run to Tails’ side after a battle... He’s clearly the traditionally protective one out of the two in every universe they’re together. And it warms my heart so much.

Part of it comes from the fact Tails is the most important person to Sonic -- of course he needs to keep him safe. The fact Sonic is slightly older than him (I personally see Tails around 12 and Sonic as 15-16) probably makes him feel a bit responsible, too. 

“Who embarrasses the other in public with kisses and pet names?”

Sonic! After they start dating, I headcanon that calling Tails bud/buddy/bro/etc. like he used to becomes a sort of jokey pet name, since now they’re outright ‘partners’ and equals in every sense of the word.

Naturally, Sonic still loves using those friendzone nicknames, though, so it’s like a running gag only the two of them get. lmao.

Sonic’s also the one to initiate any kissing most of the time, especially in public. Tails doesn’t mind PDA all that much, now, don’t get me wrong. But he knows Sonic is someone that really needs his space and freedom respected, so he just feels more comfortable when Sonic is the one starting the affection in public, since it means both of them want it at the time.

Sonic obviously appreciates him a lot for being so considerate of their relationship. And he shows it through kissing and holding Tails’ hand whenever he feels like it (spoiler: it happens a lot), usually attempting to catch him off-guard to get him as embarrassed as possible. 

Ahhhgh, talking of their dynamic makes me so happy, it’s making me want to continue writing my fics for them ;;;; I can’t wait to be done with my exams.

this is mostly for personal reference but I saw the game grumps live show in chicago on 6/29/22 and wanted to write down some memorable moments!!

-the 'dad' pre-show performer hugging the audience member who said 'this is special for me cuz i don't have a dad' 😭

-also dad collapsing dramatically after an audience member told him 'idk who you are dude' lmaooo but also same

-he fuckin killed it dancing and doing crazy handsprings and shit tho like wow

-playing 'backstreet's back' to start/end the show in honor of the backstreet boy's reunion tour

-the 'house grump' banner not unfurling dramatically like it was supposed to (not sure if this was staged but I laughed my ass off either way)

-that one audience participant who just went fucking HAM on the buttons and won the rhythm game through pure determination

-also arin and danny being like 'we made this climbing game WAY too hard' and giving tips on how to avoid the bees

-house not-so-grump (which I was in) getting fuckin creamed at all the games and only winning 1 out of like... 9 :(((( rip lmao

Is it just me or does every guy in the sonic franchise have a soft spot for Amy? Of course we all know sonic does. But, tails, knuckles, shadow, and silver seem too also. For example shadow and silver would give into her requests in shadow the hedgehog and sonic 06. Or knuckles would be protective of her in sonic x, and of course her and tail have a good friendship bond. She’s like the really sweet and cute anime girl that can make even the most stoic guys soft.

Hmm, can’t remember Knuckles being ‘protective’ of her-

(But everyone would tell a girl character in a Shonen to ‘be careful’, ‘stay out of trouble’, ‘This isn’t a place for a little girl’ sort of thing anyway. So it could just be the genre..? But yeah, he’s a good guy so I see what you mean ^^; )

and her and Tails are decent enough friends, but it’s also out of necessity sometimes that any of these characters actually interact.

You have to remember that Sonic is kinda the ‘glue’ of their gang. It’s like having that super close friend and then their friends become your friends? Lol But yes, they are a super-powerful force together! They don’t always just randomly ‘hang out’ together, and were kinda stuck at Chris’s place so what ELSE can they do to bide their time? But they get along, and they do consider everyone their close friends!

It’s canonically stated that Amy is ‘Pretty’ and in Shadow’s description of her, he loosely states that he can’t help but want to help her. Silver also is another canon statement where he was ‘roped along’ into Amy’s antics but ended up just unable to refuse her.

She’s very persuasive XD they say she “cheerfully embarrasses men” on her Japanese Sonic channel bio and I 100% believe that’s the embodiment of Amy lolol She just gets people to really care about her, due to how passionate, innocent, and sincere she is about caring about others. It’s hard to feel like, “She can defend herself” when she so sweetly grabs your hand and loops you into dramatic chaos lolol

She’s also a magnetic for trouble... lol She runs headfirst into Sonic’s adventures, so you can see why!

She’s a very preppy, pretty, and persuasively bossy girl. She’s full of energy and it radiates a sense that everyone wants to keep her safe. It’s like... protecting that little bit of light you found, that wholesomeness of caring and having that optimistic energy that A LOT of these poor lost souls are missing, but desperately wish they had... But that’s not all Amy brings, and I’ll get to that later!

This was Shadow at one point (When it came to Rouge, who he did end up saving), then-

To shed a tear due to Amy’s words, the same spirit of promise that Maria once had, and in dying memory of her, he immortalized her desire for that promising world of people’s dreams by returning Amy that same promise--renewing and keeping it as his new ‘purpose’. Other than a weapon, and in Shadow The Hedgehog, she is also associated with a mission with ‘Love’ as it’s title. Along with his warning: “If you want to stay out of trouble, stay away from that doctor.” Which also proves the point of everyone feeling like ‘I have to keep her safe’ which is just one of the things that Amy inspires in people. They just... instantly care about her.

Amy also forces Silver to question his resolves, realizing--just like Shadow--that his way of taking lives so thoughtlessly is not the answer.

Amy is constantly inspiring people to be better.

He even laughs at himself for ‘following this girl around’ and helping her search for ‘her missing person’ instead of doing his own task. SHE ran into HIM, and yet, he felt obligated to help her search on her own task.

She makes a cute pose and says something like, “I’m sorry, Silver. When I’m done, we’ll find who you’re looking for!” it leaves him embarrassed and scratching his head, turning away from her in his clear attraction to this cutie! This scene is meant to be funny, as Amy often inspires comedy in the Sonic series, but also showcases Silver’s awkwardness in social interactions. (How Naïve he can be in them lol)

It’s this very thing that makes him look around and reflect, realizing how gorgeous this whole world is without the flames of destruction from his world. Amy inspired it. She created a moment where Silver wasn’t so gung ho and focused on his main task (which was manipulated through Mephiles’s evil intent, by the way) that he failed to notice anything else around him.

Amy doesn’t notice this, lost in the meaning of his words, which makes him once again embarrassed. Notice how he looks directly at her when he says “And Everyone is Happy”? He’s referring to her!

When she doesn’t get it, he just can’t bring himself to explain further.

He shows the same excitement as her.

So at first, he turns away--abashed--unable to tell her the horribly depressing future he’s from. Instead, he opts to continue to help her, showing his desire to remain in that presence of joy. HER presence of happiness... HE WAS HAPPY WITH HER TOO (sobbing) HE DIDN’T WANT THAT FEELING OR PEACE TO END.

And even in this scene, it was meant to highlight Amy’s innocence and natural beauty, he was complimenting the green and natural wonder of the world.. then looked at her as the sun was directly behind her. He looks away, embarrassed, but Amy is canonically ‘pretty’ lol

Amy’s endlessly compassionate to the ‘Morally Grey’ or ‘Led Astray’ characters and ends up being their ‘Guiding Light’ towards becoming heroic characters themselves.

Addresses him first, as a soul, which in his core--he is a living being. However, she questions this by saying that she pities Eggman didn’t give him feelings.

When Amy asks Gamma why he doesn’t know why he wants what he does, she inspires humanity. The difference that makes Amy a hero unlike the rest of the casts is she will always choose the option to help the lost soul other than combat them. She will actively choose connecting hearts over violence to save many lives, even though she can fight. She would convince someone to change their ways rather than beat them into her ideals. She will go after the misguided and bring them towards redemption.

“Don’t you know how bad I feel?” She pleads humanity. She begs emotional mercy, for the purpose of understanding and linking hearts together in compassion.

Amy will UNSELFISHLY fight for the outcasts, the broken-hearted, and the abused. That’s how she fights, she wields her heart, and it has never failed her, not once.

So, overall, yes! She makes stoic guys weak and melt at her endearing charms XD Even robots remember their humanity in her!

When we got back from our trip in July. Had a full on breakdown that night. Overheated all weekend. Overwhelmed. Anxiety. It was not a very good vacation..I cry a lot though.

16. Are you upset about anything? Yes. I'm annoyed about something and it's making me upset. (I assume this has something to do with the the drama mentioned earlier lol) Always. Anxiety & depression are a bitch. My rooms a mess & I can’t get myself to clean it. My shelves are still a mess.

17. Do you think relationships are ever really worth it? yeah. though i havent really had one yet. I mean, yeah. Even though I haven’t had one last, aside from friendships, but they’re worth it.

19. Night out or night in? Depends on what's going on and how I feel about it. Night in usually. I do like going out sometimes, but, like, to dinner. Maybe a movie or a show. But, you know, we’ve been in a panini press, the only thing I’ve been comfortable doing is going to dinner (fully vaxxed & masked). But I also prefer staying home anyway. (Like I usually just go to dinner with my family lol)

20. What items could you not go without during the day? my computer. my book. my journal and a pen. My phone. My journal (b/c I write in it every night, as a diary, 14yo Linda wrote stories). Uh. I didn’t take food or drinks into account in the og, so I won’t in those. But, yeah. My phone & journal. I can go a day without my laptop if I need to. (Went the whole trip in July without pulling it out, though maybe that’s not a good example since my anxiety on that trip was so high..) I want to say a book, but I’ve been in a massive reading slump so...I wish I read as much as 15yo Linda did..

23. How do you feel about your life right now? I'm loving and hating it. but hey nobody gets out alive right? Uh..I mean. I’m alive. I have WiFi. Food. Family. I haven’t seen my friends in 2 years. (Minus Alex, b/c they were here in July to cat/house sit, but I saw them for like, one night..) There’s a lot that could be better. A lot that could be worse.

You are beyond excited. Today was the first day in months you, Taka, and Mondo are able to all get together at the same time. Due to the major differences in your colleges and majors, it was nearly impossible to find a time for you all to meet up. You’d all had to settle for only meeting with one of you at a time (or a three way call, but it just wasn’t the same), if even that, and while you all loved the company regardless, being all together was the best. You all managed to find an entire day (and night! Though they had to leave a little earlier in the morning, but you’ll take what you can get) to yourselves, and you couldn’t be happier.

Bouncing on your feet, you eagerly wait in your living room for them to show up. You had the couch ready, placing many blankets and pillows on it, a bunch of snacks out, and a pile of movies and shows. You could think of nothing better than just snuggling with them on your couch and talking with them about how they’d been, what they’d ben up to, how was their major, and then settling down to watch something and give bad commentary on it. You were practically vibrating with excitement. 

*Ding dong!*

Nearly squeaking in happiness, you race to the door and throw it open, revealing Mondo. You throw yourself into his arms, him just barely catching you. He laughs loudly, picking you up and burying his face into your neck. You laugh, wrapping your legs around his waist as he lifts you higher. He carefully walks into your house, still holding you, and kicks the door shut behind him. You lean back, grinning at him, “Hi.”

He smiles amusedly at you, “Hey.” You giggle before crashing your lips together messily, nearly knocking your teeth together because of how eager you were. 

He gladly reciprocates, rubbing your sides lightly as your lips move against each other. You feel him smile against your lips, and you can’t help but break the kiss by grinning at him again. Your foreheads press against each other, and you can feel his hair drooping over you head, making you giggle. You’re about to go in for another kiss when the doorbell rings again. Dropping from his hold, you and Mondo fling the door open to see Taka, fist raised, about to knock. 

You and Mondo yank him inside, making him yelp as he stumbles into your arms. You nudge the door shut with your foot as you cup his face with your hands, leaning in and locking your lips with his. You can feel him tense up, letting out a little noise of surprise, before he melts into it, lightly resting his hands on your waist, stroking your sides with his thumbs. Your hand moves to run your fingers through his hair, making him hum contently as his lips move against yours. 

You hear Mondo clear his throat impatiently from behind you, and you both laugh, separating. Mondo pulls Taka into his arms, leaning down and giving him a kiss on the lips as well. Taka grasps the lapels of Mondo’s coat, and Mondo easily wraps his arms around his waist. You smile at the sight, deciding to go sit down on the couch and wait for them to join you. 

You settle down on the cushion as they break away, giving each other one last smile before coming to join you. They sit on either side of you, Mondo draping an arm across yours (and Taka’s, honestly, his arm is so long) shoulders, and Taka taking your hand in his. They scoot close to you, your thighs touching on either side as you spark up conversation on what the others had missed.

Taka talks about his political science class, mostly. He talks about everything he’s learning, and how disgusted he is by modern politicians and their “immoral antics”. He goes on a passionate tangent about how excited he is to learn more about the subjects in his schedule, even if they are about how politicians lie a lot, and how excited he is to start gaining experience. He talks about how his art classes aren’t going too well, “I never took much interest in the arts, however I will do my best to shade any fruit that the teacher asks of me!” 

That sparks a laugh from you and Mondo, and the conversation casually transitions into Mondo’s trade school experience, where he almost bashfully admits how he’s actually pretty good at building things. “My teacher says I’m one of the best,” he grins, “My math skills are still shit, but I can build a damn good birdhouse!” You and Taka nearly shout in excitement, congratulating him on his work and nearly demanding to see it next time you all get together. He laughs and agrees to bring you both one of his best birdhouses. 

“But, if you ever need help with your math,” Taka reminds him, “Please come to me! I will gladly help you!” Mondo grins at Taka, agreeing to call him up next time he has a problem, making Taka nod, satisfied. 

They turn the topic onto you, and you gladly explain your experiences with music ed so far. It’s been tough, but you’re really excited to learn more about it! “I can’t wait to get actual experience,” you admit giddily, “I really can’t wait!” Taka squeezes your hand, happily congratulating you and praising you for your obvious passion in the subject. Mondo agrees, drawing you closer to him slightly and telling you how excited he is to see where you go. He also offers to let you make the official Crazy Diamonds theme song, which you snicker at. 

The conversation languidly travels from topic to topic before you’re all sitting in comfortable silence, cuddling close to one another. You offer to turn on a movie, grabbing the remote and scrolling through the movies until one catches someone’s eye. Mondo calls out that he likes the look of the new “Sonic”, and Taka agrees, seemingly enraptured by Sonic’s design. You hit play and lean back into your boyfriends, sighing contently as they scoot even closer to you as the movie begins. Not seeing each other that often may be hard at times, but as you listen to Mondo and Taka rave over Sonic the Hedgehog, you think that days like these make it bearable.

Thoughts on Long Lost that no one asked for, but I’m sharing them anyway

Or, In Which Annie Pretends To Be A Music Critic Because Why Not. I wrote these up as I listened to the album, so they’re my first impressions (except for Not Dead Yet, Mine Forever, and Long Lost, which I’d already heard).

The Moon Doesn’t Mind: An interesting little song, but there’s not much to say about it given it’s only 1 minute and 10 seconds long. I like it. I wish it was longer.

Rating: 7/10.

Favourite lyrics: N/A, because it’s too short to pick any, lol.

Mine Forever: This song was a banger when they put it out as a single, and it’s a banger now. I LOVE it. Songs about unhealthy, obsessive love are like, my favourite thing.

Also, not to bring my favourite unhealthy pairing of two fictional queer neurodivergent middle-aged doctors from a semi-obscure medical soap opera into this, but this song is still incredibly Johnrik vibes.

Rating: 10/10.

Favourite lyrics: “Love is strange, I can’t sleep without you / maybe in the grave I can dream about you / Everybody lies, but I’ll never doubt you / I don’t wanna die, but I can’t live without you”

(One Helluva Performer): A fun vocal interlude track. Not much to be said for it.

Love Me Like You Used To: The moment the lyrics started, I immediately decided I loved this song. It’s great. If there’s any justice in the world, they’ll put it out as a single and it’ll go mainstream.

It’s also vaguely Johnrik vibes, though not as much as Mine Forever.

Rating: 8/10.

Favourite lyrics: “I’ve been lost before / and I’m lost again, I guess / but I never lost this feeling / or this pounding in my chest / I have travelled many miles, I don’t want to walk no more / every road and every highway led me right back to your door”

Meet Me In The City: The title immediately brings to mind Strange Trails’ ‘Meet Me In The Woods’, so I was very intrigued to hear what this song was going to be like. I like it. I think it’ll take me a few listens to fully appreciate it, but I like it.

I like the Strange Trails callback - “put on the dress you wore the night we met”.

And the reveal in the second verse that the narrator and his lover are actually having an affair was very clever. I love LH’s way of telling stories through their songs.

Rating: 7/10.

Favourite lyrics: “Forget the life you had and don’t look back / Get your courage up and drink this down / If our love is so wrong / tell me, why does it feel so right?”

This is getting a bit long now, so I’ll put the rest of my thoughts under the ‘keep reading’ button...

(Sing For Us Tonight): Such a brief interlude I have no opinion on it.

Long Lost: I wasn’t a big fan of this song when they released it as a single - I didn’t hate it, but it didn’t do much for me. In the context of the album, though, it’s fantastic! I can see why they picked it as the title track now.

Also, more Strange Trails callbacks - “out in the night all alone in the way out there...”

Rating: 9/10.

Favourite lyrics: “For a while I was held in the myth of the lost highway / In the spell of the night and the lights of the great white way”, and “Send me to the mountains / let me go free forever”.

Twenty Long Years: A melancholy song about the perils of addiction, and another example of Ben Schneider’s gift for storytelling. Just an absolutely brilliant song. I love it.

And I love the outro, with the crowd singing the song. It really adds to the atmosphere of the album.

Rating: 10/10.

Favourite lyrics: “I destroyed my health searching for myself / but there ain’t nothing there to find”, “I made a life out of chasing a ghost / twenty years takes its toll”.

Drops in the Lake: I thought from the title that this would be Johnrik vibes. I was not disappointed. I fucking love this song, oh my god. It’s perfect. It has me lost for words.

Rating: 10/10.

Favourite lyrics: Can I say the whole song? But especially “I go down to the edge of the lake / where I wait through the night for the dawn light to break / Memories of old crash like waves on the shore of my mind / And I pray that the stars will align / I just want us to be like we were long ago”, and “I look up at the uncaring sky / with a prayer on my lips and a tear in my eye”.

Where Did The Time Go: Another short but sweet song. It’s good.

Rating: 7/10.

Favourite lyrics: “May you laugh and sing your life full / may you learn the reasons why / may you live until you die”.

Not Dead Yet: This song got me hyped up for the album when they released it as a single in February, and I still love it now. It’s just so good, catchy, and danceable. I hope I get to go to another LH concert soon (I saw them in 2018, it was fantastic) just so I can rock out to this there. It’s one of those songs of theirs that feels downright magical.

Rating: 8/10. It’s just a damn good song.

Favourite lyrics: “There’s a stranger in my eyes again / I swear to God I don’t know him”.

(Deep Down Inside Ya): Another vocal interlude to add to the atmosphere of the album. It works for its purpose.

I Lied: I know they released this one as a single, but I’m only just now listening to it for the first time, because having already heard NDY, MF, and LL, I decided I could wait to hear this one. I think I made the right choice – it really works with the rest of the album. It’s a beautiful and bittersweet song, with some more great storytelling.

I love the idea of this song – a relationship where both partners are falling out of love, but they think the other one still loves them, until eventually one partner gives up and leaves, thinking they’ll be breaking the other’s heart… only for the other partner to be relieved the relationship is finally over. Good god, it’s like the definition of bittersweet. I love it. I’m a sucker for a good tragic love story.

Rating: 9.5/10.

Favourite lyrics: “I told you I’d be coming back again for you but I’m not / I’m going way out where the world will never find me / I made a claim that I would dance until we’re bones with my bride / I told you I would never leave you all alone, but I lied”

At Sea: Another shorter song. It’s pretty good, I like it. Gives me Lonesome Dreams vibes (as in the album, not necessarily the specific song). Indeed, you could easily read it as being from the POV of the narrator in Ghost of the Shore.

Rating: 7/10.

Favourite lyrics: N/A. It’s too short for me to pick any.

What Do It Mean: This sounds like a perfect mix of Lonesome Dreams, Strange Trails, and Vide Noir. It feels like a mix of all three albums, too, in terms of the themes. I am in love with it. It’s beautiful, and the lyrics resonate with me a lot. It might actually be my new favourite Lord Huron song ever – and that’s saying something, because it’s very hard for anything to overtake ‘Hurricane (Johnnie’s Theme)’, ‘Moonbeam’, or ‘The Balancer’s Eye’ for me.

Rating: 11/10.

Favourite lyrics: The entire first verse. “So much to say, but my words mean nothing / A life spent talking when my epitaph would do / Wasting my days with my mind on the future / And my past like a chain that won’t ever let me go / Where would I go, and would a lone soul miss me? / If I leave in the night, I’ll only be running / With the weight of the world at the tips of my fingers / A long lost soul in the wilderness alone”

Time’s Blur: LH’s longest song ever – and I’m pretty sure it’s their first wholly instrumental piece, too. Sonically, it reminds me a lot of the songs on Vide Noir. It’s a gorgeous piece of music. Gives me chills. The first few and last few minutes especially just feel downright otherworldly, and I mean that as a compliment.

Rating: 10/10.

Overall, I give Long Lost a 10/10. It’s a masterpiece, just like the rest of LH’s albums. Lord Huron are geniuses and I will die protecting their vision. (Kudos to you if you get what that’s a reference to, lol.)

Hawks falling in love with someone who everyone assumes is quirkless but actually has an absolutely gorgeous voice that can be used to woo people into submission or instead cause sonic booms in fight or flight situations where wooing someone won’t work (I’ve considered writing this myself, but I haven’t had the time! I might in the future, if you won’t mind!). She often sings to him while he lays with his head on her lap or chest and someone overhears/stumbles upon them, which is how her quirk is found out.

well of course it wasn’t demanding just like begging. when you sang to him, it relaxed him instantly and calmed his nerves like nothing else could. he didn’t want to say that he fell in love with you because of it, but it played a role in it.

so when he came home you couldn’t decline and honestly, it felt good to help him. You were quirkless, and sometimes it was hard when you were a quirkless civilian dating a pro hero. sometimes you just felt useless with him, but being able to soothe him helped. you could do something to help him.

you laid down and waited for him to join you, drinking water preparing to sing for him.

most nights you would sing him to sleep, it calmed him that much. you’d never sing around anyone else, he would get upset saying that your singing was only for him. you were his songbird after all.

he walked into the room and you looked over him, he looked disheveled, tired, and tense. your heart ached for him.

he laid down with his head on your stomach, and his arms around your lower waist. you sighed and brang your hands up to his hair, slowly running your fingers through his hair, trying to release some tension from his scalp.

“ready baby?” you cooed softly at him, petting his hair.

“always songbird” his muffled voice vibrated against your stomach and you took a deep breathe.

“just need you to calm me down angel. been a rough day you know?” he mumbled into your stomach, burying his face into it like a pillow.

“want me to sing for you baby?”

he never really liked you singing outside of your apartment together, but today had been a particularly rough day so, he agreed.

you had asked him what song, already knowing which one but he gave you a odd request.

“can you sing as the world caves in? I heard you singing it the other day and it was really g-good” He sounded nervous almost, it was so cute.

“of course baby, anything for you”

you cleared your throat and shifted so you could sing properly.

you walked towards you stopping in front of you dropping to her knees, and staring up at you in admiration.

you quickly tapped hawks on his shoulder and whispered a quick “keigo what the fucks going on”

He lifted his head up, obviously confused, and sat up reaching to his receptionist, asking her if she’s ok

“y-your voice is so beautiful! please keep singing” she stuttered quickly, and then continued asking over and over

“is she ok?”

“I-I don’t know? Why don’t you go home babe, I’ll meet up later I’m gonan take her to the emergency room to see if she has some kind of head damage” you laughed softly at his comment before getting up and leaving. or trying to.

she quickly grabbed your arm before yelling “please stay! I’ll do anything for you! just sing to me again! please!”

you pulled away from her, hawks pulling her away, you gave him a confused look before he tried to reassure you

“I’ll be home quick just go”

you nodded softly and walked out of the agency, going home.

Meeting Xing and Citrine Part 2

(Last Time)

Yang: WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR ARM?!!

(Present Time)

Xing pulls his prosthetic hand, a bit surprised. Citrine jump up in fear as well at Yang yelling.

Xing: Huh?

Yang: Your arm! Why do you have a prosthetic? Did something happen? Did someone hurt you? Who did this to you?!

Ruby: Yang, please calm down, you’re scaring them.

Xing: Oh. Uh. I was born without my arm.

Yang: ....oh.

Ruby facepalmed at her sister’s response.

Xing: Sorry. *looks down*

Yang: Oh no, nononono, there’s nothing for you to be sorry about lol guy. I’m sorry, I just got spooked is all.

Ruby: *whispers* Yang!

Citrine: ...But it's cool right?

Yang: Um, yeah! It’s like super cool! Look we even match, see?

Yang shows off her own prosthetic arm.

Citrine giggles a bit.

Citrine: Mama told me Auntie Yang thought that her lost arm was why Xingy didn't have one!

Yang: Wait is it?

Ruby: Yang.

Yang: Sorry. So... Xing, do you wanna come inside?

Xing turns to Citrine who nodded Xing turned back to Yang.

Xing: Okay.

A few minutes pass by since the two children were welcomed into their small home, Yang is seen in the living room with the boy and girl.

Ruby then walks in with a plate of sandwiches in hand.

Ruby: Here we are, I’m sure you two must be very hungry.

Citrine gasp and went to grab a sandwich.

Ruby: I hope you like them, I know I might not know your taste buds, but if you’re like your brother and sister I think you’ll like it.

Citrine looked up a bit confused.

Citrine: Brother and Sister?

Ruby: Oh right! You haven’t met them. *takes a frame from the fireplace* Here they are sweetie, this is Rowan and this is Summer, they’re fraternal twins. Or twins that are not a bit different.

Citrine takes special attention to Summer.

Citrine: She looks like me!

Ruby: That’s right, isn’t she pretty?

Xing: How old are they?

Ruby: Well, they’re a bit older than you two are. They’re both thirteen years old.

Xing looks at them more.

Xing: They look nice.

Ruby: Thank you. Do you have any siblings Xing?

Xing: *shakes head* No ma'am.

Ruby: That’s ok sweetie, I’m sure Citrine loves to spend time with you though.

Citrine gives a cheer and runs up to Xing and gives him a kiss on the cheek, resulting in bits of the sandwich staining his face. He wipes it off and grabs a sandwich for himself.

Xing: Gross Citrine.

Ruby: So cute… 🥺

Citrine: Where Uncle Zwei?

Ruby/Yang: ...Uncle Zwei?

Xing takes out his scroll and shows a pic of himself, Citrine and someone around 17-18 with Silver eyes and similar red and black hair to Ruby's wearing a white cloak smiling into the camera.

Xing: Him. *pointing at the third person in the image*

Ruby: *stares in amazement* Whoa…

Yang: Yeah…

Xing had a basic idea of what’s happening but Citrine still looked confused and repeated her question.

Ruby: Um, he’s a... he’s currently on a mission! Right Yang?

Yang: Yeah! He’s gonna be away from home for a long time.

Xing stares at the sisters clearly not believing them, while Citrine goes back to eating more sandwiches and toning them out.

Xing: ......

Yang: So Xing, what do you two like to do for fun? Any games that you play?

Xing: ...I play soccer. My mom said dad use to play it.

Yang: Your dad? ...I see, well then. You kids wanna play some soccer?

Xing shakes his head and turns to look at Citrine.

Xing: She's a sore loser then it comes to Soccer. It's weird.

Citrine: I'm not a sore loser!

Xing: Sore loser.

Ruby: Awww, that’s ok sweetie. What games do you like to play?

Citrine: ...I like Sonic and Pokemon.

Ruby: *gasp* Me too!

Yang: She’s a sore loser too, just so you know.

Ruby: Am not!

Xing smiles and laughs a bit.

Yang: ...Say, I’m gonna go get something, and I’ll be right back. Ok lil man?

Xing: Kay mom.

Yang makes her way upstairs, after a few minutes pass, Yang comes back holding something behind her back.

Yang: Hey Xing, guess what I got?~

Xing: Hm?

Yang: *shows off a soccer ball* Ta-da!

Xing eyes light up and he jumps up and speed-walks up to Yang. He does yell but it goes above his usual quietness.

Xing: Ball?

Yang: Yeah, ball ⚽️

Xing: Can I hold it?

Yang: You sure can 😁

Xing grabs it and begins to juggle it between his feet.

Yang: Say, nice moves.

Xing: *continuing to juggle the ball and then bounce it on his head* Thank you!

Yang: ....Huh, so this is what motherly pride feels like.

Ruby: Yup, it’s great ain’t it?

Citrine stopped eating her sandwich then walks over to her mommy and began to climb her.

Ruby: *tilts her head down* Hm, where are you going missy?

Citrine: Up to your head!

Ruby: *giggles* You wanna see up high?

Citrine: Yeah!

Xing: She climbs everything.

Yang: Oh so she’s a lot like you were sis when you were her age.

Xing: Uncle Zwei was also like that.

Ruby: Must be a Rose thing I guess. Sweetie, you wanna go really high?

Citrine: Yes Yes!

Ruby: Ok, but you better hold on tight, this may get a bit bumpy, Kay?

Citrine: Okay!

Ruby: Ok, here we go!

She activates petal burst and she uses her semblance to fly around and go outside to fly high above the trees.

Citrine shrieks in joy as they fly around.

Finally Ruby settles back to the ground, deactivating her semblance and returning to her physical form, carrying Citrine in her arms.

Ruby: Did you have fun?

Citrine hugs her tightly.

Citrine: Yeah! So much fun!

Ruby: Glad you did... wanna go again?

Citrine: I wanna tell daddy first!

The smile on Ruby’s face begins to gradually fade and her smile slowly falls. Her... daddy.

Xing stops bouncing the ball when he say the look on his face.

Xing: ... Auntie?

Ruby: Daddy... he uh... he’s not here right now sweetie.

Xing once again catches on faster than Citrine who only looks at her mom in confusion and tears begins to form in his lilac eyes.

Citrine: Is he on a mission with Uncle Zwei?

Ruby: ...Yes, Yes! They left on a mission together, so he’s not going to be here for a while.... I’m sorry sweetie.

Ruby hugs her new daughter tightly, kissing her forehead.

Xing turns away from them and begins to walk off so Citrine couldn't see his face and sat on the floor pulling his knees up to his face as tears started to fall desperately trying to hold them in.

Yang sees him wandering off, deciding to follow after him. Once she finds where he was sitting, she sits down beside her new son, hesitating a few moments before wrapping her prosthetic arm around his shoulders.

Yang: Hey lil man, what’s got ya blue?

Xing: ‘sniff’ He's dead, isn't he?

Yang: ....Yes, he is I’m afraid.

Xing could stop himself from letting a quiet sob as the dam broke and a stream of tears began to fall. He couldn't control himself despite his attempts to stop himself.

Yang brings her other arm to wrap around the boy, rubbing his head and whispers sweet nothings to him.

Yang: Shhh, I know baby I know.
