another thing i love about dungeon meshi along with how theres adequate time given to every character that matters! Is that like. Along with no "every single character in supporting cast gets put on the backburner in favor of MC / other character development" is that theres also no "god these characters are all so boring except that one guy who is tragic and compelling" bc they all have the same capacity for compelling tragedy (and such).
And it also doesn't feel like when ppl tack on as much Bad Things onto a characters life just to emphasize tragedy or hardship... Theres a good balance in each of em. The recent leaked izutsumi dark lore implication drop wasn't even in the main story and it doesnt feel like that quirky "i love torturing my ocs! 馃お馃お馃お馃お (Literally just throwing everything into one pot)" sentiment i see here often if that makes sense. It doesn't feel Edgy ykwim

So about a year ago, I started this Mewtwo style study, drawing some of the babytwos from members of the amazing commewnity, as well as some other characters from artists I greatly enjoy. Kappa, as a kangaskhan fusion, has natural motherly instincts and attracts children.
I tried to keep the proportions and shapes as accurate as possible to study as many designs and details as possible.
Featuring in approximately left to right order:
Pigment from @xxtc-96xx
Marshmallow from @polteashop
Copper from @absolutedream-art

So Much Love for all the different interpretations of the dca so much love for the simplistic styles and the complex ones and the flat faces and the more fleshed out faces and the incredible rendering and the sketches and the comics and the cute dcas and the scary ones and the (non-judgmental but still very aware gaze) ones and ALL the different outfits and . Your work is incredible and inspires me to create more!
What is your least favorite animal to draw? Or, what aspect of drawing have you struggled with? Thanks!
Thank you!
Least favorite... this is a cop-out but I think it'd have to be people. I feel like over the years I've slowly reached the point where humanoid anatomy isn't that much of a hassle to deal with anymore, but as soon as it comes to human faces, I just lose all interest, I'm sorry. I admire artists who excel at depicting humans but I just haven't found an enjoyable way to draw them.
For actual animals, I'd say horses. I've mentioned this before but they're just not for me.
I think my biggest enemy continues to be backgrounds and scenery. I've never managed to get the hang of them (and never will if I keep on avoiding drawing them). I try to tell myself that I used to struggle the same way with hands, perspective, poses, clothing and fabric folds and eventually regular practice made those easier, so why backgrounds would be that much more insurmountable.
I also don't enjoy realistic shading that much and usually try to weasel my way out of having to do it. I think my style might've developed into it's flat and lineart-heavy form as a result of shading evasion, at least in part, and I'm just wishing and hoping that my lines are strong enough to pick up some of the slack and convey form and volume even in the absence of true rendering.

*clears throat* The Watcher is a really good protagonist character.
Like honestly, when you think about it, it's really astounding that this series has the same blank slate character throughout the series and yet you can flesh them out thoroughly and give them an arc that effectively and dynamically arches over multiple installments. There aren't a lot of game series' out there that manage to pull this off this well

Since I saw an artist's rendition of Jon as a ginger I can't get it out of my head. It's perfect. Jon as a scraggly sad ginger. Martin is a fat British Indian man. Tim has Central Asian ancestry. Melanie is tiny and Swedish. Basira's family is from France. Sasha is chubby and Black. Elias is still just white middle aged management. Georgie is unidentifiably mixed race with gorgeous black hair. Daisy is literally anything but blonde
Please I'm begging you I need VARIETY

[Start ID. A digital drawing of Minos Prime from Ultrakill, who's wearing a strapless slit dress and sandals of the same deep purple. He faces towards and slightly to the right of the camera, his head is tilted further right. With one hand he gestures in a vague pointing motion, his arm folded and held close to his body. There is nothing in the background, but bracing himself on one arm, Minos is implied to be leaning against something about the height of a countertop. The background is a blank purplish black, save for three diagonal stripes in the colors of the bisexual flag. End ID]
Shading study that quite literally came to me in a dream two weeks ago, after this post apparently beamed itself into my mind
(also a few edits below the cut! they're very slight but whatever :])
[Start ID. Three different versions of the previous drawing. The first changes the tone of the lighting from blue to pink, and similarly the shading from pink to blue. The second replaces the faint black border with pink, purple and blue, syncing with the stripes in the background. The third combines both these changes. End ID]
