Solarpunk Community Playlists

So we've got the community playlist for Solarpunk Aesthetic Week, right? It's nice and big, but I wanted to make more community playlists with specific vibes in mind! I've already added a bunch of songs to each, but the goal is to let everyone contribute to them and enjoy them!

Solarpunk and Chill is for lofi/chill beats! The aim is to have it be mostly lofi, or generally just good music to chill to while studying or working on projects!

Solarpunk Sunny Beats is for songs that are pretty upbeat and just feel solarpunk to us--whether its the subject matter of the song, or just the way the instruments sound! It's meant to be the middle ground between the lofi playlist and the next.

Solarpunks Fight for Our Future! is for songs that are punk/punky/rebellious-feeling! The kind of playlist you would bump to on the way to a protest, or do some action--what's the soundtrack that plays in your head if you were to guerrilla garden or do other rebellious acts? Add it here!

The illustrations start as a spontaneous scribble and are brought to life in the same way as one would look at a cloud and see different animals and shapes. Each drawing is an invitation to explore a magical world through whimsical art - where animals, plants, and curious buildings come alive.

I love how inspiration evolves and how zooming in on the smallest details can generate new ideas, or open up opportunities to practice and learn. I really enjoy this part of the creative process. The freedom to change direction, start over, and create wild, expansive sketches is liberating.

Reka the game is good yo

i mean it's difficult to make building your own chicken legged witchhut anything less than delightful, but the atmosphere is so good, i love it :D some textures and the controls are a bit janky but as an early access indie game it holds well i think, i'm gonna try and remake my hut into something cool now that i know what i'm doing :3

Finally finding out what this Solarpunk illustration I drew for @andrew-ism back in February is for. It's featured in this video :D I have yet to watch it but I trust it'll be good.

This is meant to be a mall that's been repurposed by and for the community, turned from a place of consumption into a great hangout spot where you can chill, have a meal, borrow some books or tools, exchange out clothes you don't wear for ones you like better and let another person take yours etc.

We really need to get better in telling those stories. And we really need to do away with the idea of Solarpunk just being these chill utopian fictions. A fight about getting to that Utopia can be Solarpunk to.

We also need to do away with the idea that there are no conflicts in an utopian setting. Because there are.

So because of everything happening during the second war, you never really got to get to know him too well

He was probs helping Annabeth with battle plans and whatnot, so after the war is when you'd actually get closer

It probably started with him trying to unwind, he's traumatized and lowkey stressed so he decides to go on a walk

He ends up finding a nice place to sit....by the strawberry fields...you just so happened to have been doing your weekly chores and...BOOM! JASON JUMPSCARE!

You ended up talking a bit, and pretty quickly became decent friends.

You were kind of surprised how sweet he seemed, especially because of how almost stoic he was when planning for war (he has rbf to me)

He actually got really excited to talk about Demeter stuff, her roman variant was one he often had to work around at camp Jupiter.

So it was cool for him to get close with one of her kids.

You could talk about how you loved camp being so dependent on nature, the woods for protection, the strawberries that were always at lunch, etc

He was pretty excited about this because he always wanted camp Jupiter to be more self sufficient

He loves exchanging childhood stories with you (partly because he hated what it was like when he lost his memories)

He also loves hearing about your siblings

He will talk about his cool older sister thaila to you (will also tell her abt you because 'theyre punk too!')

Hes super chill with alot of things, and will let gou mess with his hands or hair if your fidgety (he lets leo too)

without further ado, here we go! in seniority [and image] order

Plunging Flows of Ash [PFA] - he/him [woman!!] He’s definitely winning his senior of the cycle award! He’s been pretty depressed and poorly functioning from the jump, but would often rely on his partner, Sparks, for help and support. When she’s in her darkest hour, and his privileges as senior are needed, he consistently fails to deliver despite her constant aid in return… and after the mass ascension, he just falls off the face of the earth, sleeping through his own depression even as his dysfunctional group desperately needs him. The catalyst for everything- as he fractured his group in two with his actions and fails to rise to their needs, and he has a chronic inability to accept his own wrongdoings and the fact things have changed. Associated Slugcat: The Colorburst Countless Swirling Sparks [CSS] - she/any Well known among iterators for her many, many methods of iteration and other inventions, Sparks was built with an unusually large [and haphazard] structure that she uses to its full advantage. Always with countless screens pulled up around her, always on some project, eating up her own escapism. She was failed by her creators long ago, but is so desperate to see her fellow iterators happy she keeps pushing on. In lieu of Ash, she has risen to a faux senior status - though lacking any powers to enforce her position. Only about half of the group [Ochre, Chimes, and Aurora] answer to her with any respect of authority- she has not been able to reach the others. Her resentment for her situation with her former lover is festering, and may explode violently once things go awry… Associated Slugcat: The Brainiac

Erupting Maw [EM] - she/her She’s fucking crazy!!! Worshiped as a god by her colony, she has not coped with their loss well. Originally seeking to replace the void left by their departure, she created purposed organisms to inhabit her city and later her can… but watching them rip eachother apart was simply so much more cathartic. She has full control! Her ego and disdain for other iterators as lowly in comparison only grows. Over the cycles, her can has become notorious for having some of the most deadly creatures. She’s an expert of bioengineering… but is the danger in seeking her aid worth it? Associated Slugcat: The Gladiator

Budding Ochre Opportunities [BOO] - she/flor Based on solarpunk aesthetics, flors city and can truly is a delight! With a colony full of roof gardens and brilliant colors, she herself has taken to turning her puppet chamber into a garden. Kind and compassionate, though cutting and assertive, she has made peace with her situation as an iterator and is just trying to live a good life. As flor adds to flors collection, she doesn’t consider any of it may posit a danger to her structure. But she would be at peace with that, too, if it were to occur. The only question is if those who care about her, such as her dearest Chimes, would be. Associated Slugcat: The Recon

Resonant Chimes [RC] - he/him He’s really just chilling, hanging out. No secret problems here, no deep-seated depression over the loss of his colony that he hangs onto, no karma flowers being poured into his puppet coolant just to feel something, none of that! Collecting music, friends with slugcats and scavs alike, having a good time. He’s surprisingly intelligent and has his morals more sorted than just about anyone here, but he’s held back by general apathy and his losses. Maybe, so many cycles detached from their creators, he won’t have to worry about losing anyone again. As long as he drinks the tea, he doesn’t have to think about it, and can pull himself closer to those below who left him. Associated Slugcat: The Gardener

Reaching for Caged Starlight [RCS] - she/it/ast Frustrated endlessly, as most iterators are, by being locked in a box, she’s determined to put an end to this. Not by ascension, though. She’s determined to free them from their cans- allow an escape from this maze. Ast wants to remove the puppet from the umbilical, in a manner where they don’t lose themself completely. Much easier said than done! Its undoing, however, is its cautious and methodical nature. She is too light on her feet to simply dare and cut the wire, let alone having the experience to snap the mechanical arm entrapping her. But, she has all the time in the world, and she will one day see the stars they made her mocking name after. They’ll all see. Ast will get there, by any cost necessary, even if her fellow iterators are disposable to this goal. Associated Slugcat: The Seamstress

A Glittering Aurora [AGA] - she/he Need some gossip? He’s your guy, all right! She burns her endless time away on global chats, basking in the amusement and the knowledge. A bit of a nuisance to her own local group, as she simply can not keep a secret, but… what happens when technology degrades, the message board is silent, he no longer can block out his circumstances,,, and the drama reaches a bit too close to home? Associated Slugcat: The Copycat Wandering Whispers [WW] - they/them A very quiet, lonely iterator, Whispers strays to themself. Only allowed to speak to their fellow iterators for shipments, or, occasionally, their senior for guidance, there were few connections for them besides to the one who vanished off the face of the earth. With their personality thoroughly destroyed by the iron fist of their colony, they simply… quietly observe. But they may hear something they’re not supposed to, and, desperate for a replacement for their mentor, lead themself astray. The road to hell is paved with good intentions, and they will glimpse the void in the end and take the plunge. Associated Slugcat: The Mercy

Hey, I’m sorry to dump this on ya but your blog gives me a lotta hope and I just wondered if you had anything to say to my current ails- I am but a very anxious teen and I am so scared. I see so many people talking of how the world “Will end in 2040” or how “damn the past was so much better because it was simpler” and I am lowkey starting to believe that. I’ve got a problem with romanticizing a past I wasn’t even a part of and I really don’t want to live in some awful dystopian future and I fear I’ve missed out on so much because of when I was born :( and how come no one can afford basic shit anymore? I don’t wanna have no money at all! I really would like to be happy in the future but with all the bullshit caused by social media and the lack of money it seems bleak. I’m sorry that this is such a negative ask but I am not doing so hot and was hoping you’d have an insight ? Don’t respond if you don’t wanna

Hey ya there sprout 🌱 it can be really tough out there!

Your feelings are valid, so valid in fact that those exact feelings are why Solarpunk as it currently exists is around! We've all been there!

Between the wages of the top 10% of ppl vs everyone else being greater then during the French revolution, the average citizen globally being worse off then when the great depression was happening, climate crisis after crisis, all while consuming endless bits of info both horrifying (ex Politics) and hopeful (ex Social Media activism) it's waaaay too much for anyone to bare alone! Much less constantly! That burden shouldn't be on any of us!! But since it is, I'm here to help at least lighten the load even if temporary.

The best thing to do when we feel like this is to stop. Find 5 minutes to be still. We are fight/flight/fawn creatures and we will only loop in our solutions without actual clear choices if we don't Chill Out. We're mammals our natural state is Chilling Out and Play.

Next, think about how cool the planet is and particularly how cool humans are?

How there's finger flutes on ceilings thousands of years old, smaller then average indicating that parents held their children up to draw on the ceilings.

Think about the invention of looms and spinning fibers! What other creature could do that? Think about the kids that could build Snowmans without aching fingers because of lovingly knit mittens.

We sing like whales do, like birds do, like wolves do, and we do it to share stories and ideas over food! It is the first things babies mimic! We have songs so old we no longer know their origin just that they came from love! We even have songs to herd cattle meaning music transcends just us but bleeds into our relationships with the planet!

That we have play behavior! Just like wolves and foxes and whales and octopus it is so built into our DNA to play its generally how we learn things! This ranges from agriculture (children tossing seeds around, blowing on dandelions!) To chores (parachute games > folding laundry, playing pretend > usually chores/job based) to hunting (tag! Hide and seek!)

Think about our interconnectiveness with the planet too, how we are guided by Honey guides to find abandoned hives to share in the spoils of bread and honey. How Sweetgrass needs us to flourish, how berries and nuts need us to spread across the land, how we fix other animals broken bones and beaks and help them return home when otherwise they wouldn't ever get home.

Now that you can remember we deserve to be here, that you deserve to be here. We can look at the current situation and bare it.

And we do that by doing small things. Jam out and listen to music while picking up litter on your block, go to a library and just hang out or research something you love, make seed Bombs and toss them I to abandoned lots, make silly cartoons. Whatever it is, it will be enough.

The weight of the world isn't ment for the individual no matter how much Capitalism and Elites will try and guilt you over their failures. That weight is ment for collective groups, but your job as a Person is to be happy where you can and to be kind so others can be happy. The last thing that I always keep in my heart is a quote from my fave author Ursula Le Guin:

The ending of Scavengers Reign is Solarpunk (spoilers duh)

The series starts with a buncha space freighters who are hauling cargo to another planet. One of the workers is worried his part of the cargo will expire and wants to cut corners by flying closer to an unstable star. The captain would rather spoil the cargo than risk the life of his crew so the worker goes behind the captain's back and changes their course. the unstable star sends out a solar flare that damages the ship, killing many and stranding the rest on a nearby planet that hasn't been surveyed but is full of bizarre lifeforms.

On this planet, the survivors are taken out of the machine of capitalism. They are no longer cogs safe (and confined) in the system but vulnerable lumps of meat who must figure out how to survive on this planet.

Near the last couple of episodes, 3 scavengers land on the planet and bring capitalism with them. Their plan is to loot the survivors' freighter ship for their own gain and abandon the survivors. Their plan goes belly up.

The last couple minutes of the series shows the survivors of the freighter ship living an idyllic life near the remains of their ship. Their growing food, forming community, and just chilling while waiting for rescue. I'm sure many miss home and the lives they left behind (not to mention the planet has many hostile fauna that would kill them in a heartbeat) but for the moment, they're not wage slaves trapped in the hustle, stuck on the daily grind,

Elio Alvoretter for @jonquilyst's Total Drama, Season 3!

Elio [they/he, in that order of preference] (Idiot forgot to introduce their own pronouns in the recording) is a very laid-back teenager that somehow is at the epicenter of a very chaotic friend group, and thus, is usually the voice of reason.

Think this, but with at least double the leashes:

Yeah he is tired, but he does love their friends and partners a lot. [And I, as their creator, know TD3 won't be a break in the slightest hehehe]

Self-Assured and Generous traits. They are very benevolent at nature, but have to make themselves heard a lot of the time.

They are a pacifist, but not harmless. They don't think violence is the answer, but if someone starts shit, they take ending it as a much justified excuse. Doesn't throw the first punch, but can, and will throw the last.

He is very interested in environmentalism, and is very adept of solarpunk ideals.

By the way, almost every one of their friends is some combination of goth/grunge/punk. Do not be deceived by his "good boy" appearance. They consistently drawn to the "troubled kids" (which, most of the time, are actually very much fine and correct, despite their reputation)

They have a rather strong moral compass, but an even stronger belief that for every problem there are three sides: the two conflicting ones and the unbiased facts; playing mediator is almost second-nature at this point, and they prefer to take in all information he can before setting down on a firmer stance.

That being said, they have no tolerance for discrimination. In those cases, there really is only one side to the story. The wrong one.

They can't act streamlined for shit. Their focus will meander more than a river. Shit gets done, yes, but on its own time. They don't rush it. For them, the path/process is way more satisfying than the end goal.

Speaking of not rushing stuff, they identify as: genderqueer but definitely half-asssing it. In fact, they are only going by they/them as a primary set of pronouns because they can't be bothered to enforce anything other than back in his circles (their friends do try, but he is so very chill with the accidental defaulting to he/him that it takes rather long for everyone to realize it happens) (Like... champ, be a little more firm about it, will you? Just for once. I promise it's okay)

Although they are more on it for their girlfriend rather than themselves, they genuinely want to go through the experience. Again, they enjoy the journey and the excitement of trying out something new way more than they are there for the win.

Besides, it's a chance to meet some new people! (And maybe help consolidate the nagging feeling that he'd be great as a future psychologist? He isn't sure yet, but applying to college is right down the corner, so...)

And while they very faithful for both of their partners, the three of them have had a long discussion and decided that, whatever happens, happens. If feelings bloom during the season, nobody would be against it (though I think that Elio would be very upfront about the fact that they are in a relationship, and would probably try to keep a possible romance very restrained to TD3. But if feelings really take root, I dont think it'd be too much of an issue to try them out of that setting as well.

Some random character sheets, because I don't think there's a better way to summarize their kind of role in their chaotic murdersquad friend group unless I make a three-page-essay.

I wish I could remember the skills I gave them, but unfortunately S4TI doesn't allow me to check :( I'm pretty sure herbalism is there, along with some cooking (he helps his mama) and some charisma (one of their only real strenghts for TD3). So yeah, I think that's the basic so nobody will instantly die?
