Heroine of the day - Sally McNeil

Born September 30, 1960 is an American former sergeant, professional female bodybuilder and muscle worship practitioner, who was convicted for the murder of her husband Ray McNeil, a Mr. Olympia competitor.

Her husband Ray has been physically and mentally abusing her for years, cheating on her as well. He liked to choke her, and did it multiple times during their relationship. On February 14th 1995, when he attacked her again, she had enough and she shot him. I say GOOD FOR HER.

But obviously the misogynistic society labeled her as an aggressive bully. Just because she was extremely strong physically, people didn't believe that she could be a victim of domestic violence. Even though a professional psychologist evaluated her and confirmed that she was abused, the absolute asshole of a prosecutor named Dan Goldstein kept denying this fact. He thought that a victim should be a perfect, helpless, delicate woman and Sally wasn't like this. So he did everything he could to destroy her in court and she ended up spending 25 years in prison for murder.

When watching a documentary about her (Netflix's Killer Sally) there are a couple of things worth noticing.

Sally's children confirmed that she was abused and they were 100% on her side. They SAW what was happening and knew she didn't have a choice.

As for Ray, his friends who are in the documentary are straight up ridiculous. One man said (with a smile on his face!) that Ray once gouged out some man's eyes. Then he proceeded to describe Ray as a gentle, harmless giant. And THEN he said how aggressive and dangerous Sally was 🤡 Ray's friends also found it very entertaining that he cheated on Sally. They were smiling while talking about it. They didn't give a single fuck about how hurt this woman was. And they wouldn't care if it was Ray who killed her.

Sally was not only a victim of domestic abuse. She's also a victim of misogyny, which robbed her of 25 years of her life.

But now she's free and thriving and I wish her all the best. She did NOTHING wrong. Every woman who kills her abuser is a heroine and should be praised.

Just now I was skipping through the series, trying to place a cel, and I happened upon Noin talking to Zechs in Antarctica prior to his duel with Heero. It’s the conversation where he talks about the Gundam pilots being true soldiers and how he is just a stepping stone to them and Noin interjects that they’re so gung-ho about everything because they’re fighting for the freedom of the colonies.

And it hit me there. After having seen this scene about a hundred times, my brain finally decided to go "Wufei is not fighting for the freedom of the colonies. He’s not protecting something since he already lost her. ...WAIT-"

I went on and on about Trowa and Noin being foils in the next episode because of the whole "needing something to protect" vs "needing only an enemy" definition of a soldier they both had and this, which explains all the friction between Noin and Wufei, went right over my head for years. -_-

Once again I have to give massive props to the writers. It's a rare thing to have a series where a secondary character gets unique dynamics with almost the entire cast. Noin and Heero, Noin and Wufei, Noin and Quatre, Noin and Trowa, Noin and Relena, Noin and Zechs, Noin and Une, Noin and Sally, heck, even Noin and Treize! Noin gets unique dynamics with all of them, and they even evolve over the course of the series.

Whoever loved Noin on that team, thank you. She's wonderfully fleshed out. And badass.

Only today did I actually learn that Ted Sallis (The Man-Thing) and Barbara "Bobbi" Morse (Mockingbird) were tied to the Super Soldier Serum? Because today was the first of learned of it, probably because I skipped the Ka-Zar stories where I think it was discussed. But now I've gotta say: this severely clouds my opinions for these characters. Because I hate the super soldier serum, and it's one of the reasons I already hate Captain America. But now my opinions of these characters may be clouded due to this. Not so much Ted Sallis (because as Man-Thing, I posthumously absolve him off all his sins as a human. Plus, Man-Thing is adorable to me), but definitely Barbara Morse. I may now slightly dislike her, but it's not like it matters. I stop reading most comics by 1980, which is before she becomes a main character outside of a few 70s Ka-Zar stories. Also, I don't even know if I'll ever get around to reading her Ka-Zar stories. Maybe I will, but who knows? But yeah, I just really hate the super soldier serum.

How would everyone react to Y/N and Joaquin dating? A 'The Hating Game' drabble

Warnings: Major Spoilers for The Hating Game Novel. (Btw read the book, it is amazing) Strong and suggestive language.

A/N - I was so focused on the main story of Joaquin and Y/N that I had very little time to develop the side characters. I had two characters planned that would be Joaquin and Y/N’s closest mates on their base and would encourage them to pursue each other, but I had to scrap the idea because it seemed lengthy. Anyways, there are three recurring side characters in the story, so I wrote this drabble about them.

PS I saw Clueless (1995) a few days ago, so let me know if you found a fun little easter egg I placed in there while writing this. Hope you like it <3

Captain Bexley

When he dropped you at the hangar, the poor guy would have a field day trying to figure out if you kissed Joaquin or if his eyes gave in.

He would think through every interaction he saw you two have. He would also run through the number of times he has given you a piece of his mind after yet another complaint of you two fighting.

But then he remembers Joaquin’s party when he saw you shake hands.

He doesn't think much about it, happy that Joaquin was getting a terrific opportunity in his career, and that he is in love.

Mostly because his headaches are reduced in half because he doesn't have to deal with you two.

Y/N's Mom 

She found out after overhearing Joaquin on your weekly Facetime.

"TOUCHDOWN!!!"

"Who was that?" Your mom looked startled after she heard his voice. You look at him with wide eyes after you told him to stay quiet during the call. He grimaces, saying a soft "sorry," while keeping his phone down, the soccer match now being his last concern.

"Uh, mummy, I'm kind of seeing someone. He's staying over tonight." You say, bracing yourself for impact.

"Oh, that's okay honey, that's wonderful." She smiles softly.

"Hey Mrs. Y/L/N. I'm Joaquin. It's nice to meet you." Joaquin slides into your side looking at your mother.

You thought the screen lacked response when she didn't move for a whole minute. Her eyes kept looking at him, and then at you.

"Joaquin, oh, nice to meet you, dear, I've heard a lot about you from y/n."

You let out a nervous laugh and abruptly say, "Okay mum, I'll talk later I've got to go."

“Sure, but I don't want to be a granny so soon so use protection and…"

You cut the call and throw your phone across the couch, hiding your face behind your hands. "I am so sorry about that. Mummy's a bit, straightforward." You groan.

Joaquin just breaks into a fit of laughter as he tackles you in a big hug.

Y/N’s dad (I really want this to be a 'southern dad disapproving of his daughter’s man' trope pls bear with me :)

Joaquin visits you at your farmhouse a day before your birthday to surprise you. You run down the porch steps to jump at him while he throws his duffle bag down.

You engulf him in a big hug as he picks you up, holding you tight. He lets you down and you kiss him full on his mouth, which he responds to by grabbing your waist.

Joaquin immediately lets go of you. You look at him bewildered, but you see your father standing outside the house, staring at you. You are lost in him when you hear someone clearing their throat in the background. Joaquin immediately lets go of you.

Joaquin tensed up at this, knowing that your pops do not outright reject him, but do not accept him fully either. Given your history. You still took his hand, and walked up to your pops, “Pops, this is Joaquin. Joaquin, this is my dad” “Sir” he nods and steps up to shake your father’s hand, which he returned by laughing and hugging him instead. “Come on in, Y/N darling, guide Joaquin to the guest room.” he looks at you. “Joaquin is sleeping in the guest room?” you ask your father. "Am I sleeping in the guest room?" he asks. “You are sleeping in the guest room,” he says with a small smile and claps a hand on his shoulder, a weird way of asserting dominance.

You roll your eyes at the pair and head inside, and when Joaquin tries to follow you, Pops holds his shoulders tightly and whispers, “You think about hurting her boy, I have a .45 and a shovel. I don’t care if you roll with the Avengers, I’ll do it.” and then he lets him go.

When he is finally settled down in the guest room, and you realize what happened after looking at his startled face, you give him a kiss on the cheek and say, “He gave you the shovel talk didn’t he?” “Yes.” “I’ll sneak out tonight. For you.” You squeeze his butt which makes him laugh.

He pulls you into his arms, “Mi amor you will be the death of me,” he says and kisses your nose.

The best thing to co e from the super soldier serum or it's many duplicates is Man-Thing. Man-Thing is the opposite of eugenics: instead of creating a perfect man, they tried and accidentally created a monster. But in some ways, I feel Man-Thing is a better man than all those who made the super soldier serum. He just wants compassion. He doesn't want to be feared. Man-Thing is like the Hulk in that way. I'm incredibly easily scared (anything horror related usually haunts me for months afterwards), but Hulk and Man-Thing don't scare me. They make me feel compassion and sympathy and relatability in the Hulk's case, and I also honestly find them too cute to hate (especially Man-Thing. Something about Man-Thing is just adorable. Maybe it's because I saw him in Lego form first).

i feel like the name “percy jackson” has so much history connected to so much trauma and it’s known by so many monsters/gods alike that he’s just done with it he just wants a new beginning and takes annabeths last name to symbolize that

maybe they name their first kid jackson giving that name a new meaning

instead of jackson the name following destroyer attached to a killer of thousands of monsters a hero of olympus twice over its jackson, maybe just jack for short, a baby something of life a kid who gets to grow up a kid rather then a soldier someone meant to live not told to die

i like the idea that no one really thinks that’s gonna happen maybe sally jokes with annabeth that she’ll be the new mrs jackson maybe people even talk about the power that name holds (literally lmao)

then during one of the nights their planning their wedding they’re curled up together percy’s head against her chest getting ready for bed and percy confesses how much that name has haunted him

maybe annabeth confesses that she’s always liked her last name and though she didn’t care enough to fight against the name change she’s more then happy to keep it

maybe she’s the first person to call percy by that new name that night, whispering it against the top of his head
