reading the novel, i love how blatantly indulgent of the juniors lan wangji is. when he was their age, he was duelling wei wuxian over broken rules and lived his life by behaving as precisely as what was expected of him, and now as an adult, he's basically letting the juniors do whatever they want as long as it isn't unsafe and generally letting the kids act like kids

which leaves wei wuxian to have to be the one playing bad cop. wei "has never followed anyone else's rules in his life" "bane of lan qiren's existence" "public enemy number one" wuxian has to be the one being like "oh my god don't burn money on someone else's doorstep, don't you know that's rude. you kids need to focus on your studies more, why isn't anyone teaching you anything useful, do i have to do everything myself around here"

Based on all we've learned about the funky little space people, I decided to elaborate on the little evolutionary tree I sketched in this post. Check that one out, too! (Some digital edits have been made to the text for clarity. Transcript is provided in image description.)

I didn't draw as many characters as I'd like to, and the Hocotatians look off, but it was very exhaustive work - it's good enough to have the type specimens down on paper, at least. (think of type specimens as "representatives" of their species) I plan to make in-depth illustrations for individual groups, but for now this is what I have.

Lengthy explanations and elaborations below:

Everything underlined in red in this photo is either outright stated in canon (example, the oxygen tolerance and ear shapes of Koppaites and Hocotatian-like folk) or construed directly from canon information. The latter lies in the scientific names - they are confirmed to be distant ancestors of humans, and it's highly likely the less oxygen-tolerant folk were underground, just like the Giyans were.

For how long they were underground is unknown, but considering Bulborbs are likely descendant from a gastropod, considering Water Dumples are in the same family as them… it feels safe to say a considerable amount of time has passed. Though I haven't researched the topic thoroughly, there are organisms that can live without oxygen. Anaerobic ("without air") organisms react adversely or even die to exposure to oxygen. Sounds pretty familiar, huh? Obviously, this trait came about from living underground. A common ancestor brought way for the signature pointed ears and anaerobic-like behavior of M. infrahumus. Simple enough, yeah? There's three issues. First issue is that anaerobic traits are often found in single cell organisms, and rarely in very small multicellular organisms. Second issue, Oatchi tolerates the air of PNF-404 perfectly, while fellow Giya inhabitants can't. What gives? Third issue, Yonny states that ingestion of glow sap seems to give people higher oxygen tolerance. I sure as hell would love to study why this is even possible, but at a certain point I need to consider what's too much work for me… I'll leave answering that conundrum to Yonny. He seems invested enough.

Whether or not they have low oxygen tolerance or none whatsoever doesn't matter - either way, this makes way for M. infrahumus to become very widespread. Almost like an invasive species, due to their ability to live almost anywhere… Meanwhile, the Koppaites are always shown as exceptional. Round ears? That's a Koppaite. Can't be from any other planet, apparently - it's a diagnostic trait. They seem removed enough to be considered their own species, with that in mind.

Unfortunately I made the mistake of not drawing any characters from Ohri (Or Nijo, for that matter. At least Bernard is mentioned in spirit…) despite labeling Collin as half Ohrian. Luckily, I have a little reference of how I draw Ohrians here. Fluffy little thing. Most Giyans we see have an oval face, Collin being an exception… I like you but please be less of a nightmare to draw. Thanks. <3

Kenny got Levi a kitchen sponge for his birthday one year and tried to pass it off as a toy Spongebob. Kuchel looked at him like "😠 Spongebob's not blue, you dumbass" to which Kenny justified that "you dyed your hair hot pink in ninth grade, the sponge can be blue if he wants!" Meanwhile, little Levi's happily scrubbing things with his new 'friend'.

Why can I picture this all too well 😭 Kenny really being that minimum effort uncle 😭😭 probably forgot it was Levi’s birthday until basically the day before, when Kuchel texted him ‘so for Levi’s surprise birthday party you need to show up here at 5 o’clock, and we’ll hide the presents in the wine cabinet’ to which Kenny replied ‘… what surprise birthday party?’ 😭 so he rushes off to the supermarket, sees the pack of blue kitchen sponges and gets that idea, buys it and calls it a day. Kuchel is furious, to say the least, but keeps maintaining a nice smile so Levi doesn’t pick up on anything whilst hissing at Kenny through her teeth, ‘we’re going to talk later!!’

Levi is absolutely overjoyed at the gift, bless him, instantly shoots to his feet, toddles over and gives Kenny a big hug (but Kenny’s also standing so Levi’s just hugging Kenny’s knees really). He can’t stop beaming, neither Kenny nor Kuchel have seen Levi this excited over a birthday gift before 😭🤲🏼 whilst Kuchel is scolding Kenny to hell and back in her bedroom, Levi breaks into the cleaning cupboard in the kitchen, gets a bottle of antibacterial spray, climbs onto the kitchen counter and happily chatters away to his new spongy friend as he cleans. ‘And this is your new home now, and you and I will make this place very clean because Mama cleans all the time and she’s tired so we will make her less tired!! Oh, and we can teach Uncle Kenny how to be clean too because Mama keeps calling him stinky, and he kind of is, but don’t worry, he’s not that bad because he gave me you!! And now we’re friends!!’

Kuchel and Kenny catch the tail end of Levi’s ‘conversation’ with his new friend SpongeBob and tear up a little, and Kuchel sighs and is like ‘FINE I will let you off just this once, but it’s sad that you’ve been so bad at getting gifts for your nephew he’s this happy with a sponge. A SPONGE, Kenny. Do better next year, you jackass’ and he’s like ‘okay FINE jesus woman I’ll remember next year get off my back jeez’ and Kuchel is considering committing fratricide at this point

The thing that worries me most in hindsight about bod, is the fact that disneyfanatic(insert numbers here) explicitly stated that her favorite character is Apple jack! She even voiced her in the series if I remember correctly!

I've seen posts about people giving her the benefit of the doubt, that she wrote all the toxic and manipulative things into bod because she didn't know better, but her choosing to make her self insert into a pedophile REALLY doesn't help her at all

ive seen one of her community posts on my youtube since ive watched bod for a while, and it was literally ANOTHER applespike drawing. she still hasnt changed at all and it's incredibly worrying 🤢 i didnt realize that aj was her fav or self-insert, but looking at her character in hindsight it probably shoulda been more obvious to me 😅

im literally all for inserting facets of yourself into the story, especially considering im a self-insert romance writer myself, but imagine doing it THIS badly that you not only lowkey out yourself as a predator, but also inhibit your ENTIRE story by making her nearly unbearable

now that i think about it, it also adds a disgusting new layer of toxicity to the dynamic between fluttershy and discord being weirdly paternal. he's always calling her "missy", attempts to shape her to his image multiple times, continuously establishes himself as her superior, is overly protective over her, not to mention fluttershy's voice is VERY young-sounding at times, which was made a lot more obvious when i slowed down the video to write along. it makes me suspect this is similar to a lore olympus situation where the female lead is infantilized and the male lead is a "dilf" simply to cater to the author's fetish.

in my opinion, age gap relationships are fine for the most part as long as the minimum age of both ADULTS is in their 20's, but the dynamics of the relationships will NEED extreme attention to be able to be healthy. DF doesnt do this, and even contributed to the normalization of grooming in age gap-relationships, which is made VERY apparent by the comments from young children on the videos of those predatory moments. even with applespike, many kids, including me, felt uncomfortable at first by the fact that he's a child, but the in-story defense of applejack made me hesitate to speak against it. that is already way to much influence over a kid, and in some of the worst cases, may have led others to accept it in their everyday lives.

IT'S LITERALLY CANON THAT JAMES WAS THE ONLY ONE EVER WHO COULD REIGN IN SIRIUS WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT.

also don't even get me started on molly Weasley's he's not james. ma'am we know and sirius sure as fuck knows cause i can bet whenever he closes his eyes he sees james dead behind his eyes

“you play too damn much.” his voice was low, brooding as he stared daggers into your eyes. “so who’s your lil’ friend? chris, right? he go to your school? you never mentioned him to me before.” once the questions started coming and his head tilted to the side with that familiar glint in his eye, you knew better than to keep the gag going, even if it was fun to see him squirm.

you shifted in his lap as your legs swung back and forth, an attempt to distract him from the playful smirk that threatened to expose itself on your expression, but he saw it anyway as you quickly shook your head. “no, baby, i was just kidding.”

“aw yeah, that’s what i thought.” he huffed out what was meant to be a laugh, sizing you up with a brief warning glance. you could tell he was thinking it over, his tongue poking at the inside of his cheek when he glanced away, and a smile slowly grew on your face as he exhaled a heavy sigh. you always got what you wanted.

it’s not like he had a choice, seeing as his uncle was already reaching for his wrist. miles wanted to stop him, but he knew it was no use, his hand limp in his uncle’s hold as it was pulled forward and brought closer for inspection.

“the hell you got your nails painted for, man?your girl made you do this or sum?” with an eyebrow raised he studied his nephew’s camouflaged expression, laughter tumbling from his lips when the boy grumbled a quiet ‘chill’, snatched his arm back and let his mask close over his face to hide the subtle tint of embarrassment blossoming on his cheeks.
