Werner - meeting Marven again
It's short, because I had limited time, but wanted to do something. Hope you'll enjoy it anyway!
Tw/cw: Pet whump, kidnapping, gaslightning, shock collar, captivity. (let me know if I missed anything!)
Werner hugged his knees.
His situation was dramatic and to his surprise he found himself mourning not that his whole life changed but rather that he lost the little things.
He missed his family. He wanted to become self-sufficient and he spent the whole semester studying at university, and when he had a break and was going to have nice holidays in his hometown… Mom said she had a surprise for him when he got home. He never got to learn what that surprise was.
If he got kidnapped three weeks later he would already be finished with exams. Now he’s going to miss it and will have to re-take classes. So inconvenient.
He won’t get to go on the frozen lake this winter.
He didn’t have his favorite notebook with him.
He won’t get to sleep in his old bed.
He even missed his annoying roommate, even though their worldviews were so different, he was better than this.
It was ironic, because Marven was working as a Pet Trainer, and they had multiple arguments about that as Werner was strongly against…
Werner felt like his heart felt from chest to stomach and all the heat in his body turned into the cold.
There were rumors that many of the Pets didn’t go into the system voluntarily.
Werner was openly against the whole idea.
His roommate was directly working for Pet training facility.
And now Werner sat with a shock collar on his neck.
After connecting the dots it was so obvious, that he wondered how he didn’t realize it right away.
He felt anger white-hot as white was this damned cage he was locked in overtaking him.
He had whole life ahead of him, and it was taken away because of what? Because he was a danger to the company? Because he dared to speak up?
On the other hand, did that mean his actions would change something? That it wasn’t in vain?
For a moment, Werner regretted being so brave about it, but he shrugged this feeling off. There was no reason to feel ashamed for standing up for his principles.
He stood up, paced around the room for a while and sat down again.
How long will he be like that?
What will they want from him?
The only time he interacted with workers there, he was expected to recite ‘rules’.
He wasn’t told them, not by trainers, but he heard about some in his life before.
Fortunately, memorisation was his strong side, so he managed to put together a list of rules. Probably not all of them and not in ‘correct order’, but better than nothing.
He came there not earlier than a day ago, but he was treated like he was there for a long time.
That meant, he won’t be shown mercy because he’s “still learning”, but after bit of thought, Werner decided not to go along with them for now.
After all, they knew he wasn’t really there for long, they just pretended they didn’t.
And getting too obedient too quickly could be suspicious.
And he deserves to get angry just once, before he starts fearing them too much.
__________
Yet, he didn’t expect how angry he would get when he saw Marven's face.
“You!” He lunged forward and almost managed to throw a punch, before electrical shock threw him on the ground.
“I always assumed you were the smart one," said Marven in a calm voice. Like he didn’t just torture his roommate.
“Now I had heard you forgot your place,”he continued, while Werner tried to collect himself “You refused to recite your rules. You didn’t show proper respect to your Trainers. And now… this”
“It was your doing, wasn’t it?” Werner asked through grinned teeth
“Talking without permission.”
“Answer me!” Werner shouted “It was you who made me like that, right?”
Marven stayed silent for a while and then crouched next to him
“No. “ He said calmly “For me, you always were just a Pet. I’m only about to make you aware of that”

i still cannot believe that people consider having lovers outside of a political marriage as cheating
a lot can be discussed about how raging misogyny and the patriarchy in westeros has led to unequal standards for women to uphold and suffer from
as highborn women are not allowed the same sexual freedom that highborn men get to experience, and even if these women do have relationships outside of their marriages, they are usually scorned and shunned by society for daring to practice sexual autonomy
it’s unfair, i am very aware of this fact
(that’s why i’ll never understand team green stans)
but george has never ever condemned his characters for finding and experiencing love outside of doing their duty.
never.
we’re not unfeeling machines that lack emotions. we’re humans who are, more often than not, led by our hearts. and grrm does a phenomenal job when creating characters, as they truly feel human.
so yeah, it’s a bit disappointing that people dumb down what is clearly a very complex situation to “cheating” (btw george himself calls rhaegar and elias relationship complex and he’s never implied that they loved each other in a romantic sense).
to reiterate, i am well aware that highborn women and men are held to different standards, however, if you have a problem with characters working through, around, and sometimes failing to overcome the social structures that cause their suffering, then you must have a major issue with george’s exploration of the human heart in conflict with itself.
george’s characters aren’t robots and that’s what makes them interesting. they do things for very human reasons. they’re biased. they’re traumatized. they’re conflicted. but they’re still reaching for a better tomorrow and they’re still trying to find happiness.
so i’ll never consider rhaegar and lyannas relationship as cheating, or something unsightly that should be scorned. for they simply dared to find and grasp love in a society that would rather shackle them to unhappy marriages, which is very commendable.
oh… and do you know what george does criticize?
political marriages lol
he makes it clear that selling women off as broodmares and forcing men into marriages they don’t want is a recipe for disaster.
of course the eventual fallouts of these relationships is super interesting to read about, but you should never ever support the systems in place and the societies that benefit from pushing people/characters into these incredibly unhealthy relationships
so while i find it interesting to read about characters navigating these relationships, i’ll always be the first person to condemn these societies for forcing this fate onto them. i’ll also always be the first person to root for characters who do their best to find happiness outside of their political/arranged marriage
sorry that i don’t condemn a character for finding love outside of a loveless marriage
instead of getting angry at rhaegar and lyanna and being very nonsensical in the main tags about it, how about you turn that anger onto the patriarchy, which is rooted in every single institution and family in westeros, the patriarchy that refuses to allow women to have the same amount of sexual autonomy as men?
(this is why i despise team green :))

The Rosho Special☆ Cream of the Crop Curry: Hypmic Curry Drama Track TL
Sasara: Oh, you’ve really been cookin’!
Rei: That curry smell is really making me hungry!
Rosho: It’s a miracle I was able to even decipher what you meant in that text! Why am I the only one working on this??
Sasara: Don’t sweat the small stuff! Have you finished making our super interesting curry yet?
Rosho: I did my best to follow your recipe but…
Rei: Hm? You didn’t make a normal curry?
Sasara: Tut tut tut! You see, this curry was made with some special ingredients!
Rei: It looks brown like any other curry, so I can’t tell the difference.
Sasara: I’ll give you a hint! I was thinking of calling it, "This Curry's Got You Gigged!!" Setting off any bells??
Rei: You can’t be thing about… Actually, no, that hint was so stupid, I got nothing for you.
Sasara: Hey now!!
Rosho: I used flounder in the curry, but if you can’t tell that at a glance, that’s gotta mean your joke’s fallen flat, right?
Rei: The curry’s meant sell, so it should have a little more impact.
Sasara: I guess you’re right… It’s gotta be appealing televised too…
Rosho: Let’s take a moment to brainstorm.
-----------
Sasara: *pops a cold one open* Man, nothing’s coming to mind at all…!
Rei: The theme you had settled on was, “A Bizarre Brown Curry,” right?
Rosho: We shouldn’t even try to be teeming with themes! It’s all about the flavours!!
Sasara: “Okra-zy Curry” doesn’t sound too bad!
Rosho: Okra me a river!!
Rei: How about “Kelp!! Addicted to Seaweed Curry”?
Rosho: Oh, now you’re just sailing on his coattails!
Sasasa: “Ya Kraken Me Up Squid Curry”!!
Rosho: Quit it with the seafood puns!! Geez, you’re not even trying to solve the root of the problem.
Sasara: Nyahaha…! No, yeah, you’re right.
Rei: But curry’s just curry, isn’t it? How can you even get someone to give a laugh at it at just a glance?
Rosho: How many times do I gotta say, that’s why we’re sittin’ around thinkin’ about it!!
Sasara: I think the alcohol’s getting to us~ Let’s get some food down, so we can sober up.
Rei: I agree. I’d like one order of flounder curry with rice!
Rosho: You takin’ my home as an izakaya?? Serve your own curry!!
Sasara: Phew whee, Mista Rosho here sure is stingy!
Rei: Well, sounds like I got no other choice.
---------------
Rei: Hey, so this is getting annoying to handle, you mind if I use this whole pot?
Sasara: Rosho, whatcha want me to do with this bag?
Rosho: Shut up, the both of you!! For now, just bring everything to me.
Rei: And there. Rice is served~
Sasara: And here’s a bit of the curry to top it off!
Rosho: Oh yeah, we’re using this too!
Sasara: “A White Stew for Rice”? You brought out some boil in bag goods you had bagged up?
Rosho: A student of mine gave it to me as a souvenir from a Hokkaido trip. It apparently has some Hokkaido specialties in it.
Rei: Their milk is incredibly tasty. And so… *pours it in*
Rosho: Hey!!!! What the heck are you doing??
Rei: This is my specialty, “Stew On This Rice”!
Rosho: The bag wasn’t even boiled yet… I guess I’ll stick it in the microwave.
Sasara: Wait a sec!
Rosho: What are you making that serious face for?
Sasara: If it’s cream… How does “Cream Of The Crop Curry” sound??
Rei: Ohhh, we are aiming for something eye-catching but… Wait, actually, this might work.
Rosho: It’s more of a stew though…
Sasara: Let’s have a taste test first!
*microwave dings*
DH: *eats*
Sasara: Woah??? This creamy stew and rice pair together so well!!
Rei: And this white colour gives it quite the impact.
Sasara: This is it! This is the curry that’s going to carry Dotsuitare Hompo to victory!
Rosho: But this isn’t curry?? What do you mean we’re going to use a stew??
Rei: Why’re you fussing? All we have to do is say we made a white curry.
Rosho: Then how do you explain how we made it??
Rei: White curry does exist, you know. There are spices for it and everything. Curry connoisseurs would be familiar with it.
Sasara: Is that so?? Well, there you have it, Rosho! I’ll let you figure out what those spices are!
Rosho: No, you won’t!! Shouldn’t we all be trying to figure this out??
Rei: Ahaha! I believe you’ll figure it out somehow.
Sasara: Alright! “The Rosho Special☆ Cream of The Crop Curry” is definitely going to take us to the top!!

I was thinking about Joker being the person Futaba feels most comfortable around and how he’s immediately very protective of her, and urges her to take chances and bond with the others while telling her he’ll be right there for support.
And then I thought back to the beginning of the game and I just wonder if he related to Futaba at all. He didn’t start off the confident leader that he became. He was angry and indignant, yes, but also quiet and hurt. Zoned out and disoriented and passive, even catching himself wondering if what he did was right after all, if this is the cost. He tries to delete the Metaverse app multiple times, outright refusing the call of anything abnormal, because he is trying so so hard to be normal. It doesn’t work. Everyone hates him and doesn’t even give him a chance to explain. They intentionally outcast him. His hands shake when he has to sign his name. Morgana implies he hasn’t been eating well. Attempting to study while students are whispering rumours over his head gets him very little Knowledge - it’s mostly Guts.
He urges Futaba to bond with his friends because he actually tried to isolate himself right at the very start, and honestly? Where would he be if he hadn’t had that support or direction; if Ryuji and Morgana and Ann hadn’t shoved their way into his life?
Ren’s managed to help people because of the Metaverse and Joker, but where would he be as well without the Metaverse and all it gave him?
He might not have had as much of a reason to bond with Ryuji. He would’ve been alone. He felt helpless and unable to change his situation, and without his awakening, he likely would’ve remained feeling that way - aimless and without a capacity to voice his outrage against this injustice.
He keeps his head even lower. It doesn’t work. He zones out more. A teacher is hurting the students. A girl jumps. He watches the aftermath bitterly, and can’t do a thing. The teacher doubles down until he can’t even breathe without someone commenting behind his back. He’s a criminal. He’s dangerous. The school should kick him out. He can’t focus. His test scores drop. The school should never have taken him in. Lost cause. He should just disappear. Maybe something happens one day. He finally snaps, gets into an actual altercation, gets suspended. Maybe he just can’t take the whispers or his own helplessness anymore. He stops going to school. He stops leaving the attic.
Sojiro ends up with not one, but two hikikomori, and is left completely at a loss for what to do.
He keeps making curry.
