For your decision-making purposes!!
Honestly, I adored the fact that Laurence went blind. It added an additional limit to his character, as well as some twisted irony: for someone who places a lot of value on looks/first appearances, how would he have coped with not being able to see reflect on him?
It made me super angry when his blindness was just cured, straight out, even when I was younger and first watching through the series; it didn’t sit right with me. I understand that it’s a universe where magic exists, but magic should also have some limitations, so that would be a neat way to expand upon those limits!! Especially with Zoey, who’s magic is primarily healing-based; you could even go into something deeper, in which Laurence’s sight might be something that he wants but not necessarily needs.
There’s also not a whole lot of canonically disabled characters within the series, anyway, so to have part of the main cast be disabled in any manner would not only be a point for representation, BUT it would also be super fun from a writing and character building standpoint!!
How would his fighting style reflect with his lack of sight? Would he adopt one of Aphmau’s dogs as his own as a seeing eye dog/partner, seeing as his sister took one of her dogs as her own (or heck, maybe Ungrth would stick around more often, “acting as his eyes”)? How would he interact with Garroth, and how would Garroth interact with him, considering his hang ups in the beginning about showing his face? Etc etc
SO SORRY, this got long, I just feel super passionate about this subject specifically lol, and also Laurence; he’s one of my biggest comfort characters. I’m currently writing a blind character of my own, as well, so I’ve got some experience with both it’s challenges portraying it correctly + how it would fit into the narrative :D
Thank you for this amazing response!! I agree that him being blind adds a lot to his character, as someone who takes his own looks very seriously. But that’s not all that it could add. I’m not gonna spoil anything for my rewrite, but I’ll give you a hint: Laurance has a huge affinity for the earth. With this blindness, his senses would be heightened and he would notice just how uncanny this connection of his is (something he even had before this blindness but just wasn’t noticeable). As you said, vision being something he wants but he doesn’t need, just because of this natural connection he has with the Earth. Also, I just think it’d be funny if he could dodge a ditch perfectly but then run into an actual human being right after 💀
More under cut:
I also totally agree about having representation in the main cast. It felt a little weird that his sight was just healed with little to no explanation on how it was done, it almost felt like Jess thought it was an obstacle she wouldn’t be able to write around. Me personally, I’ve never written from a blind persons perspective before, except a little bit from Laurance’s POV in the first chapter of TBATD. It’s a challenge that I really do want to take on though, not only because of the representation (that I hope I can get right, if you have any sources, advice, or experiences you’d want to share let me know!), but also from a character building standpoint:
You brought up how his fighting style would be affected, which I’m thinking about too. Not only would he have to learn how to sense the battlefield, he’d also have to learn new skills and techniques. I’ll do my research and look more into how blind people can fight, but for Laurance I think that’d take a huge toll on his mental health. He has trained basically his entire life, he was the head guard of Meteli. He gets frustrated easily (not only is it just his personality, but his emotions can get sort of out of control because of his Shadow Knight situation), and the beginning of learning how to fight blind would not be easy. Of course he’d have help, presumably from Garroth (more friendship development for those two. They despise each other in my rewrite), but it’d still be super hard and he’d probably be depressed about it.
And more on his his relationship with Garroth, yeah I saw someone post something about Garroth taking off his helm off and for the first time, Laurance just silently feels his face and I think that sort of sealed the deal for me at that point. If you don’t know already, Garroth and Laurance will have a romantic relationship in my rewrite (well, as romantic as rivalry can get), so I can already imagine some really cute scenes for them if Laurance stays blind, as well as some angsty scenes.
Laurance is an amazing character and I’m happy you’re just as passionate about him as I am. He’s a comfort for me definitely lol, ever since I was kid. For your own character, update me on how it goes!! Thank you again for this response. <3

osakita send each other letters bc signal is bad on the farm and hey, it’s romantic
and osamu struggles with spelling but he wants everything to be perfect for kita so he rewrites them until there’s no mistakes and tries to keep it short so there’s less chance of messing up
then kita come to visit and he’s taking out the recycling and he finds pages and pages of drafted letters with words crossed out
they ask osamu about it and he explains all his worries and that kita never makes any writing mistakes and their handwriting is always so neat so he doesn’t know how to compare to that, and that kita’s so concise whereas osamu rambles too much
but kita’s surprised because he worries every time that his letters are too short and that osamu will be disappointed
and they like reading osamu’s tangents and really doesn’t care if there’s mistakes because they just want to hear from their partner and they feel awful that osamu’s been worrying about it
and the next letter he gets from tokyo to his farm spans multiple pages and has mistakes, some corrected, some not, and there’s long sections about osamu’s frustrations: atsumu, and customers, and something breaking in his flat, and atsumu. it’s kita’s favourite of all their lettets
and when kita sends his short note of sympathy with a to-the-point update about the farm, they don’t feel guilty putting it in the post

it's been a hell of a week & whiskey would be lying if he wasn't doggone tired from all the back to back missions. even tequila seemed just as exhausted & that man has the stamina of a new born pup when it came to most jobs they were assigned. thank goodness champagne had the foresight to order that whiskey take a night off for once , but even so , he can never stray too far from a good drink , nursing his personal favorite as he enjoys the entertainment this new bar had to offer. the woman singing was a talented performer , & pretty as a desert rose in the middle of spring , so it's no surprise to him that she manages to capture the attention of every man in that bar , including him. if he weren't as damaged as he is now , he'd probably strike up the courage to talk to her or somethin' ━━ ask to buy her a drink or walk her to her car. that train has long since pulled out the station long ago , taking his beautiful late wife & their unborn child with her , dust in the wind & a past he doesn't want to linger on too long. he was unlucky when it came to love ━━ no need to put himself out there & get hurt again.
when the song ends , everyone cheers & even whiskey offers a subtle clap in polite response. he figures one more round of drinks should be enough before he decides to start walking back home , but then trouble arises out of the corner of his eye , a group of fellows approaching the singer & becoming a straight up nuisance. ❛ what's your name ? you got a boyfriend ? let me give you a ride home. ❜ these men kept on pushing , clearly refusing to leave until they got what they wanted. the situation was so obvious , yet no one was doing anything to stop it. not even the bartender looked up to see what was happening & that pissed whiskey off more than he'd like to admit. so much for a break. ❝ fuckin' a. ❞ with one last swig of his drink , whiskey stands to approach the men who hover around the stage , alerting them of his presence with a simple hand to the tallest man's shoulder. ❝ i think the lady ain't interested in what you're sellin' , fella , ❞ whiskey drawls , tugging him back just a bit. ❝ i think it's time you & your friends move on outta here if you know what's good for you. ❞

@omniishambles . 𝐌𝐈𝐊𝐄 𝐆𝐄𝐓𝐒 𝐀 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐑𝐓𝐄𝐑
Things could change in a second. Perhaps she should have seen it coming, she should have been more prepared. Wasn’t she used to the changing of tides? How it could sneak up on you. Entrap you.
Standing in the large living room, she looked by the window. They were huge, reaching up to the ceiling. With the flick of a switch, the view of the Capitol shifted and blurred, replaced by... Anything she wanted. A field in 11, a forest in 7, and a view of the beach from 4. Her home... She kept this setting, eyes glued on the lazy rolling of the waves. She thought about her parents, who had just expected her to come home after the Victor Tour, and had to fight back tears.
Oh, the flat was incredible of course. Bigger than her old house, bigger than anything she’d ever seen before, actually. And fully furbished with the most elegant tables, the comfiest chairs, expensive looking paintings on the walls... But she didn’t know how to feel about this. She was happy and excited, but also sad. And terrified. She missed the creaking of the wooden floors in her little house by the sea, the way everything smelled like sea breeze, how she always had that little taste of salt on the tip of her tongue. Here there was only the clean, expensive scent of perfume.
She felt like a fish plucked out of the ocean, and stuffed into a fancy aquarium. Pun intended.
The doorbell rang, dragging her out of her thoughts. Caesar had mentioned something to her this morning, that someone would come to her flat. He had said something about a private bodyguard, or security, or something. Another weird thing she’d had to get used to, then. Being followed around.
Fish had to tear herself away from the waves and the sunset to go to the front door and open. There was a man in uniform standing there. He looked older than she expected, not that she expected anything in particular. Maybe someone younger? Stronger? But being a victor had taught her that appearances were often deceiving.
“Oh, hello,” she stammered, finding it hard to be her usual, casual self, “please, come in.” She stepped away from the door so he could walk inside. “Can I get you, erhm- something to drink?”
Was this man here to watch over her? Or just to watch her? At the thought, a shiver ran down her spine. Here went her freedom, then.

For raising chaos- what is a cryptid?
eyy thank for the ask!
the name cryptid itself comes from ‘crypts’—underground burial places, right? so while a cryptid was once human, if after death their system is flooded with electricity, their entire physiology changes, and they’re no longer exactly human. The process is called “Awakening” and most cryptids try not to think of it because it’s insanely painful. They also don’t really remember their past life. At all.
So as a result of this, they gain some ah, interesting abilities and the undying hatred of mankind. For example, the electricity is a part of them now and they can and do use it however they will. Their eyes lose their pupils, becoming completely blue. Think dark blue—it’s not super bright. They have an affinity with the shadows, making it easy to infiltrate places. It’s not like an invisibility cloak, more like they have to convince the shadows to help them out.
And that is a cryptid (Did i do any scientific research to make what i’m saying sound the least bit credible? no. not in the slightest)

Rowling isn't denying holocaust. She just pointed out that burning of transgender health books is a lie as that form of cosmetic surgery didn't exist. But of course you knew that already, didn't you?
I was thinking I'd probably see one of you! You're wrong :) Let's review the history a bit, shall we?
In this case, what we're talking about is the Institut für Sexualwissenschaft, or in English, The Institute of Sexology. This Institute was founded and headed by a gay Jewish sexologist named Magnus Hirschfeld. It was founded in July of 1919 as the first sexology research clinic in the world, and was run as a private, non-profit clinic. Hirschfeld and the researchers who worked there would give out consultations, medical advice, and even treatments for free to their poorer clientele, as well as give thousands of lectures and build a unique library full of books on gender, sexuality, and eroticism. Of course, being a gay man, Hirschfeld focused a lot on the gay community and proving that homosexuality was natural and could not be "cured".
Hirschfeld was unique in his time because he believed that nobody's gender was either one or the other. Rather, he contended that everyone is a mixture of both male and female, with every individual having their own unique mix of traits.
This leads into the Institute's work with transgender patients. Hirschfeld was actually the one to coin the term "transsexual" in 1923, though this word didn't become popular phrasing until 30 years later when Harry Benjamin began expanding his research (I'll just be shortening it to trans for this brief overview.) For the Institute, their revolutionary work with gay men eventually began to attract other members of the LGBTA+, including of course trans people.
Contrary to what Anon says, sex reassignment surgery was first tested in 1912. It'd already being used on humans throughout Europe during the 1920's by the time a doctor at the Institute named Ludwig Levy-Lenz began performing it on patients in 1931. Hirschfeld was at first opposed, but he came around quickly because it lowered the rate of suicide among their trans patients. Not only was reassignment performed at the Institute, but both facial feminization and facial masculization surgery were also done.
The Institute employed some of these patients, gave them therapy to help with other issues, even gave some of the mentioned surgeries for free to this who could not afford it! They spoke out on their behalf to the public, even getting Berlin police to help them create "transvestite passes" to allow people to dress however they wanted without the threat of being arrested. They worked together to fight the law, including trying to strike down Paragraph 175, which made it illegal to be homosexual. The picture below is from their holiday party, Magnus Hirschfeld being the gentleman on the right with the fabulous mustache. Many of the other people in this photo are transgender.
[Image ID: A black and white photo of a group of people. Some are smiling at the camera, others have serious expressions. Either way, they all seem to be happy. On the right side, an older gentleman in glasses- Magnus Hirschfeld- is sitting. He has short hair and a bushy mustache. He is resting one hand on the shoulder of the person in front of him. His other hand is being held by a person to his left. Another person to his right is holding his shoulder.]
There was always push back against the Institute, especially from conservatives who saw all of this as a bad thing. But conservatism can't stop progress without destroying it. They weren't willing to go that far for a good while. It all ended in March of 1933, when a new Chancellor was elected. The Nazis did not like homosexuals for several reasons. Chief among them, we break the boundaries of "normal" society. Shortly after the election, on May 6th, the book burnings began. The Jewish, gay, and obviously liberal Magnus Hirschfeld and his library of boundary-breaking literature was one of the very first targets. Thankfully, Hirschfeld was spared by virtue of being in Paris at the time (he would die in 1935, before the Nazis were able to invade France). His library wasn't so lucky.
This famous picture of the book burnings was taken after the Institute of Sexology had been raided. That's their books. Literature on so much about sexuality, eroticism, and gender, yes including their new work on trans people. This is the trans community's Alexandria. We're incredibly lucky that enough of it survived for Harry Benjamin and everyone who came after him was able to build on the Institute's work.
[Image ID: A black and white photo of the May Nazi book burning of the Institute of Sexology's library. A soldier, back facing the camera, is throwing a stack of books into the fire. In the background of the right side, a crowd is watching.]
As the Holocaust went on, the homosexuals of Germany became a targeted group. This did include transgender people, no matter what you say. To deny this reality is Holocaust denial. JK Rowling and everyone else who tries to pretend like this isn't reality is participating in that evil. You're agreeing with the Nazis.
But of course, you knew that already, didn't you?
Edit: Added image IDs. I apologize to those using screen readers for forgetting them. Please reblog this version instead.

1, 17, and 20. For 1 you can pick any fic of yours you'd like - I just like song recs!
1. Share a song that makes you think of [fic title]
I actually have a whole play list for the Moonstruck series! (In fact, if you look at some of the songs you'll find some...familiar lines/titles), so I'll share my favorites from there!
For the Wicked - Friday Pilots Club
July - Betcha
Pilgrims - New Dialogue
Bloomfield - Super Whatevr
Girl in Blue - Animal Sun
I could go on forever, but I'll stop there owo;;
17. What’s something you’ve learned about while doing research for a fic?
During the peak of my writing days for Infamous: Second son, I was actually roleplaying Reggie Rowe, and in my means to maintain accuracy and respect for his character, I learned ALOT about Native American culture specifically in Washington--the akomish are fictional, but the symbols, colors and location are based on the tribe the Suquamish!
They're a lushootseed speaking tribe with an amazing history and culture that i could go on forever about, but honestly I recommend just visting this site and reading for yourself if you're curious!
20. What’s a favorite title for a fic you’ve written?
That's a tough question, but when it comes down to the one I was most proud of coming up with, it was definitely
Never Meet Your Gods - my assassins creed fic I wrote for the modern AC zine back in 2020, it was also my first time writing an isolated fic for AC that wasn't involved with infamous second son, so it was extremely fun!
It also plays on a very old theory that used to rotate in the early days of assassins creed, so it shows how long i've been on this boat
