I HAD A REVELATION

okay so I was thinking about gender. My gender. And my feelings about being a cis girl over time.

When I was little I used to wear all kinds of dresses and wore nail polish and even occasionally makeup (but like. Sloppily as a 7 year old would lol) and how overtime I stopped wearing nail polish and stopped wearing dresses and despised make up. I dont really remeber why I stopped with nail polish. Maybe because it flaked off too easily or maybe I was sick of the few colors we had idk. I know I gradually stopped wearing dresses and night gowns because I was sick of being told I couldnt "put my legs up [up against the wall or just straight up in the air] or that I had to sit a certain way while wearing one. So I wore more and more pants.

I think about how i used to stand in the toys aisles while my mom did grocery shopping and look at "The Boys" section and think how much cooler it was than the girls section.

And I think about how my music teacher told us one day we'd hit puberty and we'd grow and us girls would be like "[in a high pitched voice] OH MY GOSH I LOVE BOYS AND DID YOU HEAR ABOUT SO AND SO" and I looked over at my classmates and friends to see if they were also terrified of becoming annoying teenage boy-obsessed girls.

And i think about how when I was at my friend's house and we were building "tree forts" in the woods i would wish I had a penis for the convenience of being able to just go pee behind a tree, because squatting near the ground was Not Fun and I hated walking all the way back to the house. And I think about how I hated that I'd have to wear a bra once my boobs started to come in

Now you might be thinking. Friend I think you want[ed] to be a boy. But the thing is, i dont.

I may have hated being restricted in dresses but I dont actually hate them. I've gotten a couple dresses in the last 10 years (for prom and graduation and a [not my] wedding) and how I actually did like how I looked in them and enjoyed wearing them for that time.

I think about how I was jealous of the boys selection of toys, but also how I had a ton of barbies that I massively enjoyed and how if I'd been a boy I probably wouldnt have been able to enjoy them (thanks to pressure from society) as well as a bunch of other "girly" items and shows and movies. I think about how I'm actually Asexual and that I wasnt scared of becoming "a young woman", I just didnt understand the obsession with sex/romance/boyfriend&girlfriend stuff.

And while having a penis is more convenient for peeing I also remeber thinking that it would suck to get kicked in the balls and/or that trope of falling on soemthign between your legs that happens in so many movies (not that it feels any better with a vagina honestly). And that if I had been born a boy I'd most likely have to deal with all the toxic masculinity forced on me, and I'm glad I dont have to deal with that.

And while me and my boobs dont always get along, I remember that after getting my first cute bra, I thought. Oh well maybe this isnt so bad. And I mostly wear sports bras now because I do wish they were smaller and I HATE that so many bras (EVEN THE SPORTS BRAS) are already padded into cup shapes, and while I don't mind Having Boobs, i Do Not want to show them off. And sometimes i think that maybe i wouldn't mind chopping them off, but then i think how my figure/outline/silhouette would look with out them, and that seems worse.

And i think about the times I've accidentally been called "Sir" from tired fast food employees when wearing gender nonspecific clothing and felt happy about it. But not "oh it feels right to be called sir/he/him" , but more of "hehe I fooled you! You thought this was a dress but its pants!"

And really this is all to say. I was born a girl and grew up that way so it's what I'm used to. If I'd been born with a dick then I guess I'd be a guy. If you magically stuck me in a male body right now, would I feel like a Guy or feel like a girl in a guys body? I honestly dont know. So am I non binary? Maybe that that doesnt quite feel right either.

Being a girl is what I've grown up as and into, and it's what I'm used to and going by anything else is… odd. Maybe itd be better and maybe it wouldnt. It's like an old blanket. You've had it forever and maybe its frayed and patched maybe a little too small and it's not what people expect you to have for a blanket, and maybe you could do with a new one. But nothing feels right with out it. No other blanket feels the same. It's what you're used to and its familar. It's a comfort blanket.

And that's why being a [cis] girl is my comfort gender.

Ilsa, I’ve seen you posting a lot of Trigun and well I’m intrigued by it, to say the least. But just for giggles, would you try to convince me why should I watch it? 😆🤚🏻

I didn't think Trigun was going to worm its way into my brain so much but here we are. There is so much to love about it and I adore so many of the characters for a billion different ways. The character type of someone who is made into a killing machine and then is slowly convinced to accept love and forgiveness is my favourite and is all over trigun. So many characters see themselves as monstrous but choose to do what they see as right for the sake of / with the help of their friends. There are moments of silliness and of tragedy, all with an incredibly interesting setting which slowly gets revealed.

Because of the recent release of Trigun Stampede, the community is really active rn (esp on Tumblr!) and it's really cool to see so many incredible fanarts, comics, fanfics and discussions being made. It's very fun to be part of a very active fandom, but also one that is 25 years old and has fanworks that are older than I am.

I really love it, and I would recommend it, but unfortunately I also have some caveats which I gotta mention.

What you gotta know before getting into Trigun is that there are 4 different canon versions and each one has its problems. I wish I could recommend X version as the definitive and best, but that just doesn't exist which is very annoying.

1) Trigun Maximum: the manga

Good: incredible nuances to characters like Wolfwood, Knives, Livio/Razlo. Vashwood subtext is off the charts and their dynamic is incredibly fascinating and central. This is the most detailed and complex story of Trigun and has lots of themes, characters and plot points that don't exist in other versions. Has elements of sexism and sexual violence, but (imo) to show how shitty the world is, rather than to revel in the misogyny. The tone is tragic, with equal mix of hope and pain.

Bad: the female characters of Meryl and Milly get massively sidelined in comparison to their depictions elsewhere. It's a very long manga and has (imo) pacing issues that limit the impact of emotional moments. The art style is beautiful, but notoriously difficult to follow, especially in the many long fight scenes (particularly bad in volume 5). There's lots of disagreement about 'correct' translations and it can be hard to tell which character is doing/saying/thinking what at points which can make it confusing and frustrating to read at times.

Overall: 7/10, I would recommend but maybe not as your first bit of exposure to Trugun

2) 1998 anime Trigun

Good: the silliest of Triguns with some great voice acting. The friendships between Vash, Milly, Meryl and Wolfwood are very sweet and engaging (although it would have been nice to see more of the four of them together). It's a fun overview of the Trigun story and has a very entertaining mix of comedy and serious emotional moments. Lots of hijinks and lots of fights. Milly and Meryl are core characters and get time to shine (it is impossible not to love Milly). This is personal preference but the animation style is kinda goofy in the way it changes styles to exaggerate characters' feelings which I love. The first 12 ISH episodes are very Saturday morning cartoon vibes without being too inane and childish.

Bad: because it only had the first couple of volumes of the manga to adapt from, the mid-season tone shift and later fights feel rushed, a little confusing and ultimately lead to a less satisfying conclusion than in trimax. The misogyny is noticeable, especially in the first couple of episodes, though is limited to a couple of comments in some episodes and doesn't (I think) make it unwatchable. The antagonists are rushed through and it's hard to work out who the 'main' villain is. Tone change is quite abrupt. Wolfwood is a less developed character with a less intense (back)story, Livio/Razlo doesn't exist at all etc

Overall: 7/10, this is what I'd recommend you start with. It has pacing issues and uncomfortable sexist comments, but I think they're outweighed by the strengths of the main casts relationships and the pure entertainment value of it. Not the most satisfying ending, but they were constrained so :/

3) Badlands Rumble (film)

Good: animation is SO crisp. Wolfwood is at maximum chest exposure and actually his character is pretty interesting here. Milly and Meryl are back, but in limited roles. Some interesting world building and Vash and Wolfwood go thru their divorce arc TM which is dumb and funny and angsty.

Bad: Wolfwood is far too pale. The first half an hour is made almost unwatchable by the decision to make sexism and sexual harrassement a way to pad out the runtime. Vash is such a creep it just makes for uncomfortable watching.

4/10 don't watch if you're not already invested, and honestly do yourself a favour by watching the opening scene, then skipping to the 30 min ish mark and watch knowing that Vash has some very tough dried meat in his front coat pocket.

4) Trigun Stampede anime

Good: really cool 3D animation and music. Has Wolfwood's manga backstory and some manga characters like Livio and Crimsonnail, but with very different characterisations. I really liked the episode looking at the childhood of two orphans and how their love for each other was manipulated against them both. Much bigger focus on Knives than the original and more elaboration of his motivations and plans. Zazie is SO much better here than in the original anime. No uncomfortable sexism yay!

Bad: I... don't like tristamp very much. The characters are watered down from their manga versions and Knives is just kinda evil because he was en evil child, rather than the much more nuanced version in trimax. Milly doesn't exist (yet) and they added in a new character Roberto whose role in the story is (or at least was to me) obvious if you know the basics of the hero's journey structure. Everyone has been twinkified and Wolfwood doesn't even have his tits out smh. Vash just comes across as having less agency and his motivations feel weak. I really just dont like a lot of the character decision here BUT to be fair, that's because I'm comparing them to the manga. But also, a main plot point is someone taking over his brother's body so that his sisters can get pregnant and it definitely still feels weird in context. The focus on the two brothers makes other dynamics a little weaker, and has led to a lot of incest-y fandom things which is ehh.

5.5/10 there are some things it does very well and it's very popular for a reason but I personally think the characterisations are disappointing. It's trying to strike a weird balance between being its own, new thing and also nostalgia for original elements, leading to some questionable pacing and plot choices. It doesn't even have Midvalley the Hornfreak.

I would love to be able to talk about Trigun with you and be passionate about the elements of it I love, but also I don't want to recommend it without giving you a fair picture of the parts I'm more critical about. I genuinely love the world building and characters, which are expressed best in the less accessible form of the manga but are also found in the animes. What I'd recommend is watching the original anime first, but also you might need to give it the benefit of the doubt for the first couple episodes which is where the dodgy 90s sexism is most obvious. I'd be super interested in hearing your thoughts and reactions to it if you did watch it, and also please bear in mind that my complaints about tristamp are personal and there are many who love that version so don't take my negativity as fact.

Wsit what did i miss why does everyone hate terzic?

personally i think he doesn’t have good tactics. his lineups are often questionable, and he rarely makes proactive substitutions. or when he does, it’s around the 80th minute, far too late to make a lasting impact in most cases. even during last season’s final matchday loss to mainz wherein we had gone down fairly quickly, i found his reaction severely lacking in terms of earlier attacking subs. and that was a match for the league title.

aside from that, i wonder about his influence on the dressing room. after all, marco reus’ withdrawal of captaincy and subsequent farewell all happened under terzic’s supervision. and for a while now, the dortmund bosses have been listening to his opinions over that of long-serving players.

i do find his favoritism of certain players odd. while i like adeyemi, i question why he continues to get so many starts over, say, bynoe-gittens and moukoko. in my opinion, they’re all very good players but are ultimately still growing and learning. this is more of a personal opinion, but i don’t quite see adeyemi as a polished player yet. at least, not to the extent that he would be so favored over other good attacking options. contrastingly, i’m disappointed in how he handled reyna. i think reyna was a very good plauer who should have been given more opportunities with dortmund, injury problems notwithstanding. last season, he had been very influential whenever he got subbed in. and yet, he was only ever subbed in; he hardly got started when he was still with us. i find that a shame.

plus terzic was brought in to replace rose after only one season of rose’s tenure, but at the half of last season, we had less points under terzic than with rose. we only really had a title charge because bayern was slipping. given these kinds of results, i’m frustrated that terzic somehow keeps the bosses’ trust despite failing to truly produce anything.

I saw dnd mentioned in one of the other ask posts and I gotta say that a campaign with the LIs would be wild.

DM could be Tom, cause I feel like he would be pretty good at it.

And then I just know Peter would be the one to try and seduce everything, Doug would have his dump stat be intelligence (true himbo), Sam would just be vibing, and I feel like Clark would be trying to take the campaign seriously but is getting frustrated with the others (like usual).

...Though, I don't know what Poptart and Garth would be doing in the campaign.

I WAS LITERALLY JUST SITTING HERE THINKING ABOUT THIS, ANON. And I tried to assign them all classes and wanted to draw it but...I kind of like Fire Emblem classes better so maybe I'll draw that someday instead.

So I finished the Night Before Critmas oneshot, and one of the suggested videos on the side was Grog’s oneshot. Since there’s no current-campaign CR this week, I went ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ “Sure why not, it’s fun”. 

Twenty minutes in and I have some thoughts.

First, I’d forgotten HOW fun. Also forgotten the Fjord/Jester cameo Travis stuck in there. And the hint toward Laura being pregnant. 👀 I have laughed to the point of tears once already and I know it’s only going to get worse better. 

Second, there’s someone in the comments saying the more they watch the show, the more they’re convinced Travis is a genius and, yeah, HARD agree. All you have to do is watch the Screw Job oneshot to see that. He’s TERRIFYING with a high int(I think it was 18 or something for that one) character. And it does show more easily with Fjord and Chetney since they have higher int scores, but it also shows through with Grog. There’s multiple times you can see Travis get an idea/thought from how the story’s progressing, a couple minutes pass, and then Grog comments. It might be phrased in a way that sounds “dumb” bc int 6 barbarian, but the thought itself is a really good one.

 An example: after they killed Thordak, and Raishan fled, and they’re trapped under Emon by the magical barrier, the others(+ Gilmore) try a few things to get out that don’t work. Grog suggests something that sounds simple, and is phrased like the thought process fits an intelligence score of 6, but is actually such a good idea that Keyleth and Percy immediately go “Shockingly, I agree with Grog, he makes a good point”. That ability to take a smart idea and basically translate it/the thought process behind it down to sound in-character for a low-int character while still sounding like a good idea is amazing. And he knows when to lean into Grog’s being dumb for comedic effect(Talking to Cravenedge in an outhouse? Getting Percy to title him? Getting cheated while supply shopping just to drive Laura nuts? GOLD) and when to pull back and just let “Intelligence of 6″ mean he’s no good with subtly and thus straightforward about his thoughts.

And even the Grog’s oneshot, having GROG dm for (part of) Vox Machina so Travis could fuck around with the rules and fudge stuff and not worry about getting everything “right” is genius. And it works so well in part bc they’re all such good friends irl, but just the idea is a stroke of genius.

Now back to watching :3

well it’s my birthday today, so I bring you bitb art on my other account and slightly sad headcannons here:

I like to think for each of the boys birthdays they hid out at their tree or Rands attic and did a lil oneshot dnd campaign. They would probably even skip school that day because it was “more important”

I like to image that on Roland’s 18th birthday they stayed up till midnight together. And then that was the last birthday they all spent together because rolan left soon after.

I like to think once they graduated Kian stayed for his birthday and him and rand mostly smoke and got high. Then he also left but every year after he would call rand on his birthday to say hi. But after a while rand started ignoring the calls and Kian got busy with accounting. Kian also tried to call rolan, but once he got out of law school he didn’t give the guys his new number so they couldn’t even call him anymore. I image rands the youngest and turned 18 after Kian and rolan left and celebrated alone. His mom probably baked him a cake but him and his dad got into an argument and he ran off. I think he probably dusted of the old dnd books and looked through them.

"I will take care of the music. Of course I need to sing in our wedding. I'll try to not make people too wet while I do it."

Looking up from the book she had been reading Dia had not expected that the topic of their wedding would come up today. With how busy the Sin was and how rocky a few things had been, it was no surprise that their engagement was longer than expected. 

“Well I have been looking at some venues” she said pulling out a folder labeled wedding ideas and flipping through it a bit before she arrived at the part where she had venues picked out. “I thought we could keep the ceremony smaller and...” pausing a bit as she looked at her folder, a bit nervous about how Ozzie would react to her ideas. “....less flashy” 

“I found a very church looking place, but it’s really nicely done and I think it would be great for a ceremony. I have also looked into more nature themed decor, I think it can look really nice and plays off colored lights well. Some more rustic places also caught my eye, like this one.” Going through the folder as she spoke, pointing to pictures that correlated to what she said. 

“I really like the idea of having pendant lights like this or like that” it was clear that Dia had put a lot of thought into this, more then she even thought she would. “I would like to keep things more classy, at least at the ceremony and the dinning area. I thought we might, should at least party separate the area where we will eat from the dance floor. That way we could have a very flashy dance floor while not having everything be... loud” 

While a Lust demon herself and not against her wedding being a bit party Dia did want at least the ceremony to be more personal. She also didn’t want any sex theming if she was honest, the succubus was pretty sure that wouldn’t be granted that wish tho. She had been seen and used as a sex object for so long that Dia really just wanted at least her wedding to be free of it, so gathering her courage, she looked up from the folder. 

“I don’t want any sex themes in the wedding” she said tensing up “I don’t want people to remember it as a night filled with innuendos and sex jokes, I want it to be nice. I know you want a party, and you can have one if you want but this is my wedding too, and I do not want to be treated as a sex object while there.” her voice filling a bit with anger some tears in her eyes, Dia herself didn’t know why she got so emotional about this. 

“I just... I want one day where I get to be beautiful instead of sexy” now looking down again this had been building up for a while in her and while it felt good to let it out she was scared of Ozzie’s reaction. “S-sorry I didn’t mean to get angry”

25. Personally, yeah. It’s a pretty wide range I think, too. I mostly like 80’s pop, alternative rock, and indie stuff though.

every once and a while me and my younger sister will listen to music together and alternate whose playlists we’re listening to. I always get really anxious she won’t like my tastes but she constantly adds new music to her own playlists from my stuff so I think that’s a good sign!

I think it's clear from her statement that she had concerns before sale even started - probably from when they had to institute a queue just to get people signed up for presale! There were probably crisis calls happening between her/her team and TM from very early in the process on Tuesday when the volume of hits became clear, and people started posting about issues.

I think it's naive to think that Taylor was just happily going about her daily business (or fast asleep) when tour went on sale. It's a huge deal for her, so imo there's no way she didn't have people giving her updates right from the start.

The cancellation of general sale was the right call and I suspect the push came from Taylor's side to do it. The problem is that they can't just pull the tickets themselves - TM are in control and were probably the embodiment of this meme ... insistent that they could deal with it even when it was clear they could not.

I still think that better communication could have staved off some of the anger/concerns/issues, and that TM bear the brunt of that, but anyone who thought Taylor was not aware, angry and working behind the scenes to try and improve things obviously hasn't been paying attention to how she operates.

Rowling isn't denying holocaust. She just pointed out that burning of transgender health books is a lie as that form of cosmetic surgery didn't exist. But of course you knew that already, didn't you?

I was thinking I'd probably see one of you! You're wrong :) Let's review the history a bit, shall we?

In this case, what we're talking about is the Institut für Sexualwissenschaft, or in English, The Institute of Sexology. This Institute was founded and headed by a gay Jewish sexologist named Magnus Hirschfeld. It was founded in July of 1919 as the first sexology research clinic in the world, and was run as a private, non-profit clinic. Hirschfeld and the researchers who worked there would give out consultations, medical advice, and even treatments for free to their poorer clientele, as well as give thousands of lectures and build a unique library full of books on gender, sexuality, and eroticism. Of course, being a gay man, Hirschfeld focused a lot on the gay community and proving that homosexuality was natural and could not be "cured".

Hirschfeld was unique in his time because he believed that nobody's gender was either one or the other. Rather, he contended that everyone is a mixture of both male and female, with every individual having their own unique mix of traits.

This leads into the Institute's work with transgender patients. Hirschfeld was actually the one to coin the term "transsexual" in 1923, though this word didn't become popular phrasing until 30 years later when Harry Benjamin began expanding his research (I'll just be shortening it to trans for this brief overview.) For the Institute, their revolutionary work with gay men eventually began to attract other members of the LGBTA+, including of course trans people.

Contrary to what Anon says, sex reassignment surgery was first tested in 1912. It'd already being used on humans throughout Europe during the 1920's by the time a doctor at the Institute named Ludwig Levy-Lenz began performing it on patients in 1931. Hirschfeld was at first opposed, but he came around quickly because it lowered the rate of suicide among their trans patients. Not only was reassignment performed at the Institute, but both facial feminization and facial masculization surgery were also done.

The Institute employed some of these patients, gave them therapy to help with other issues, even gave some of the mentioned surgeries for free to this who could not afford it! They spoke out on their behalf to the public, even getting Berlin police to help them create "transvestite passes" to allow people to dress however they wanted without the threat of being arrested. They worked together to fight the law, including trying to strike down Paragraph 175, which made it illegal to be homosexual. The picture below is from their holiday party, Magnus Hirschfeld being the gentleman on the right with the fabulous mustache. Many of the other people in this photo are transgender.

There was always push back against the Institute, especially from conservatives who saw all of this as a bad thing. But conservatism can't stop progress without destroying it. They weren't willing to go that far for a good while. It all ended in March of 1933, when a new Chancellor was elected. The Nazis did not like homosexuals for several reasons. Chief among them, we break the boundaries of "normal" society. Shortly after the election, on May 6th, the book burnings began. The Jewish, gay, and obviously liberal Magnus Hirschfeld and his library of boundary-breaking literature was one of the very first targets. Thankfully, Hirschfeld was spared by virtue of being in Paris at the time (he would die in 1935, before the Nazis were able to invade France). His library wasn't so lucky.

This famous picture of the book burnings was taken after the Institute of Sexology had been raided. That's their books. Literature on so much about sexuality, eroticism, and gender, yes including their new work on trans people. This is the trans community's Alexandria. We're incredibly lucky that enough of it survived for Harry Benjamin and everyone who came after him was able to build on the Institute's work.

As the Holocaust went on, the homosexuals of Germany became a targeted group. This did include transgender people, no matter what you say. To deny this reality is Holocaust denial. JK Rowling and everyone else who tries to pretend like this isn't reality is participating in that evil. You're agreeing with the Nazis.
