I tend to write multi-para responses and do not reply very well to one-liners or single word responses. I enjoy plotting and developing chemistry no matter the relationship dynamic my characters are making, be it romantic, platonic, antagonistic, whatever. My muses will all be 18+

Tags are both for organizational purposes and for adding thoughts to a post in a way that's sorta like whispering to your followers what you think about it. OP will see your tags. I have tags like "v's fiber arts tag" that I try to tag all fiber arts posts as so people who follow me for other things can blacklist that tag and not have to see the post. Which you can do in your settings.

I have the tag "moths" blacklisted because I have a phobia, for example. It's also polite to tag common triggers (like my "Tw weed" tag for when I talk about smoking weed or being high) I also tag things like spiders, snakes, and rodents just because I've known people with those phobias. Not everyone tags for those but MOST people will start tagging things with trigger warnings if you ask them nicely.

Replies are like talking directly to OP whereas reblogs are more like talking to the the group (your mutuals, op, anyone in the post you're replying to in the reblog)

Likes don't really do much for a post. They increase the number of notes but there's no algorithm to boost high note posts. That responsibility falls to us and is why we like tumblr so much. This mechanic is important to know because if you see artwork or writing you like, liking it will not help the creator the way reblogging it will. Reblogging will spread it to your followers whereas liking won't show it to anyone.

A reblog counts as engagement for OP and the person you reblogged it from. It'll show up in both their notifications.

I wanna start this off by saying this isn't actually directed at you, but I need to get it off my chest. That post of CoS game screenshots reminded me how much I DESPISE seeing people censor words with symbols like we're all twelve year olds censoring swears on Neopets. Part of it is that it looks so annoyingly childish, and part of it is how it allows posts with words censored like that to slip through filters and blacklists. I sorta understand *why* people do it, keeping things out of the tags and such, but it drives me absolutely nutty!

Oh yeah, I found it a little strange that the post censored the words Harry and Potter. Like, I’m not sure what the purpose of that was. To keep the post out of the Harry Potter tags? Why? It was about the Harry Potter video games. I will say that Neopets is a real blast from the past, but I never had an account so I didn’t know that was a thing. In my experience this is done to, like you said, keep things out of tags, and I’ve been considering employing it more myself for that reason, but it’s definitely an odd thing to read. That said, it can also be funny sometimes. I’ll never forget the post where the OP said “What the H*ck?” And someone replied asking them why they censored heck. “Because it’s a fucking bad word.”

I sorta get using dots or slash in name, like Midoir.ya when you don't want your post to be found. A lot of people in the bnha rpc do that actually - as we don't want personals to find and reblog our post, we just want to share them with our mutuals and this like the only way so it isn't found in the tumblr search. we do not tag it either - it are emtas for our blogs, for followers and mutuals not for the general fandom. but this probaly a different situation.

the problem is, a lot of anti people do that and put it in the main tag. again, i dont understand why they spend so much time talking about something they supposedly hate, its fine to not like something but to go that far…

also people might have blacklisted certain tags and words - if people who tag, for example, bk//dk or kr//bk, but put it in the main tag…it defeats the purpose of having those blacklisted for others, because they still filter through.

Idk if this is still true about Tumblr but…

I think an unfortunate thing about Tumblr blacklisting posts with non-tumblr links from search results and tag feeds is that I've been completely disincentivized from posting new chapters of anything I write on here anymore. Make no mistake, I'm under no illusions that the removal of the link blacklist would make my posts about the fanfiction I write any more popular. In the first place, popularity was never really the point. My whole purpose of posting my writing here is to pique the curiosity of people scrolling through a fandom tag. The blacklist sorta undermines it all. Forgive me for being a little bitter.

Tbh, the only reason I'm complaining now is because I don't have people I can talk to about my current WIPs. I'd ask someone to let me bounce ideas off them but I'm not entirely sure how to ask.

Idk. I guess this is a cry for help or something. Or just a vent post. Not sure which right now.

• What is their name? Nadir Darvish 

• Who named them? Was it their birth name? Did they choose their own name?

Yes, Nadir Darvish is Nadir’s full birth name; no middle name(s) given. (Middle names are not really a thing in Nadir’s culture). Nadir’s parents specifically wanted their first and only child to have a name that either honored an important aspect of Parzian culture and tradition or was an homage to a renowned monarch in Parzian history, and eventually they decided on the latter. Nadir (Nader) Shah was a king from a former dynasty who was renowned for his ingenuity and acumen, both as a statesman and military general. His military campaigns and exploits during his reign were so great that he has actually been dubbed ‘the second Alexander’ by some historians. Nadir’s parents had been anticipating a male child at first, but then apparently just decided to kinda roll with it after Nadir was born.  

((And yes, I incorporated and recycled bits and pieces of real history and have drawn inspiration from actual events (interwoven with the more fictional and fantasy components) when I initially had jotted down Nadir’s and Parzia’s background/history, e.g. I headcanon that certain real historical figures such as Nader Shah and the forever famed Alexander the Great played a pivotal role in Parzian history, though there are other important political figures (e.g. the most recent king/Parzian shah, Khosrow VI, who are entirely made up). 

Just from the sheer name similarity and background, it may be quite obvious as to which former great empire Parzia is heavily based off of (and is basically the Arcana equivalent of). Though in the world of the Arcana, a direct chronological comparison to the specific real life events cannot be drawn. Given the intentional ambiguity of the Arcana verse and timeline, I have purposely sort of cherry-picked bits and pieces of history involving real classical and influential figures and events (often far-removed from one another chronologically) and combined them with fictional pieces/events I’ve made up to fill the gaps.)) 

• What does their name mean? 

Among the various city-states that Parzia borders and is neighbors with whose denizens also have this name, “Nadir/Nader” has come to mean something along the lines of “rare.” Nadir (Nader) is a name that is not solely or even purely Parzian in origin, as Parzia’s history has also been shaped by and has somewhat absorbed pieces of various other cultures over time due to intermingling, being conquered by, and also having conquered a multitude of other nation-states over time. Though as explained above, Nadir’s parents had originally selected her name as an homage to the famed former monarch “Nadir/Nader Shah” as he is often hailed as one of the most notable and ingenious monarchs in Parzian history. 

Nadir’s surname, “Darvish” (or dervish) is originally derived from the name given to a group of spiritual  and religiously devout mendicants and mystics who purposely chose to live in austerity and took vows of poverty in order to be close to God by leading lives emphasizing virtues, e.g. humility and altruism. Dervishes were prohibited for begging for their own good, rather instead begging for humility and to collect money to give to other poor people.

So from this, it could be assumed that possibly some of Nadir’s early ancestors on her father’s side partook in such practices pertaining to this form of mysticism, even though currently her present day family is mostly secular and irreligious. Though as mentioned in an earlier post, Nadir’s family also acknowledges their original ethnoreligious roots. In the Arcana, this is said to be the equivalent of real life Zoroastrianism, with slight influence from other ancestral and religious beliefs that have been passed down over time (e.g. the darvish mysticism that was just discussed in the discussion of Nadir’s surname). This would be logical since Parzia is a nation-state with people of  rich and diverse historical, religious, and cultural backgrounds. 

• Why did you choose that name for your apprentice?

((There are a few reasons for this actually. The mun has a long history of utilizing the word “nadir” in both present and past usernames throughout her lengthy time on the Internet. The very first username being something like “NadirofDark” oh the cringe many years ago as an edgy teen on a now long defunct site, since “nadir” is also used to designate the lowest point of something. I actually believe it was inspired during a point in time in school when we as students were required to memorize lists of higher level vocabulary words in school (and subsequently had vocabulary quizzes/tests), e.g. differentiating between “zenith” and “nadir” ... and for some reason, even many years later, this has just sorta stuck. 

 This eventually evolved into related variants of the original username: nadir-ex-obscurum, then tenebras-autem-nadir, and most currently tenebris-auguratricis-nadir as my main blog)  Though I also have selected name in homage to the actual, real historical figure and king (Nadir/Nader Shah) who existed. So it technically was chosen for a twofold purpose, both as a cultural/historical homage in addition to me just clinging onto a piece of ancient usernames past. When selecting my apprentice’s name, I ultimately decided to just recycle this name for reasons pertaining to cultural familiarity and for sentimental reasons related to my much more ancient history with past Internet usernames.)) 

• Do they have any nicknames or favorite pet names?

Well, I sometimes joke that Asra once or twice called Nadir “Nadi”, but then realized that was already taken due to his shortened, familiar nickname for the Countess, whose name is just a single letter off from Nadir’s own name. Since then, Asra has mainly stuck with calling her by her full name, though they both did find it somewhat humorous at the time it happened.  

More recently though, @plague-doctor-jules Julian has given Nadir the nickname “Zen-zen” (a truncation of the antonym of ‘Nadir’, which is Zenith) in sort of affectionate jest that’s meant to starkly contrast with the “lowest point” generic definition that many initially assume "Nadir” to mean (before they are also informed about the historical and cultural homage reason behind it).

i have 300 pages to read, and yet here i am, remaking my tumblr. yep.

hi, my name’s ray. i’m 23 and i started my first year of grad school two weeks ago. i already want to die. 

i’m not sure if this’ll be more of a personal or fandom blog yet. we’ll see. it might be a combination of things. i’m not bothered about followers or anything like that, so there’s no real incentive for me to make this blog known for a certain entity. i do want this blog to be somewhat organized though, so i’ll make sure i tag everything. ya’ll can blacklist any tags you don’t want to see.

i suppose the purpose of this post is to introduce myself, and sort of...blog about my first few weeks of grad school.

i’m tempted to reveal every single aspect of my life, as i do on my personal twitter account. i’ll try to be as appropriate as i can, in case someone irl finds me. i do think i’ll be somewhat recognizable, based on my research and interests, but that’s alright.

based on my username, you could guess that i am/was a big fan of fall out boy. i still listen to their music, but less so these days. about a year ago, i rewatched inception, one of my favorite movies in high school, for the fist time in years. after 8 years, i became obsessed and was pleasantly surprised to see that the fic comm is still around, churning out arthur/eames fics. it’s fantastic. i uh...love inception so much that i...did this...

i had it finished right before i moved for grad school. i’m pretty pleased with it :)

originally, i planned out a somewhat large-scale tattoo with my tattoo artist -- i wanted matching tattoos on my ribs of a rose garden, firstly because they’re one of my favorite flowers, and it would symbolize beast/highlight, the first kpop band i ever loved. then...in march, all that shit came out about junhyung -- who is a piece of shit, by the way, and i no longer really interact with fandom because of all the people who still support him -- so that obviously was called out. tbh, i’m so glad that all was revealed in march, bc i was supposed to get it in may. i would have really considered a cover up if i had gotten it before he was called out, tbh.

anyway! after i got the first half of the inception tattoo, i went to study khmer for the summer out of state. it was...an interesting summer, partly because of the teachers. khmer was h a r d. i hated the state i was in. i actually applied to go that school for my MA and i’m glad i made the decision not to go back in april.

after that, i returned home for a bit, finished off the tattoo, and promptly moved to...paradise. i’m trying to be vague here, but you can probably guess where i moved. it’s just beautiful here. the culture is so rich. i’m surrounded by such good food. i’m very excited about the classes i’m taking, the people in my program (anthropology) are so nice. i’m so so so so excited for my research.

but i’m lonely. i’ve made a few friends, but i feel kind of excluded from the group that formed in my cohort. i can tell that they hang out more together, and haven’t really invited me (though i haven’t sought them out either). i’m just kinda bummed about that. but it’s okay, i’ll make friends. 

i’m also suffering from health issues...i’ve had a hives viral infection for the past two weeks. it’s been fucking hell. nothing really helps except for the steroid i’ve taken the past few days. it just really fucking sucks. i’m itchy all the time, especially at night. in fact, i’m itchy right now, and i’m kind of glad i’m doing the all-nighter since i can’t go to sleep with this anyway. i hope this doesn’t last too much longer.

i fucked up real bad, y’all. i still have that 300 pages to read and weeks worth of khmer to do. my macbook actually broke yesterday, but thankfully i have my old one with me. it’s not a good excuse, really. i’ve been lazy. i hope i can better manage my time this upcoming week. maybe limit all-nighters to once every two weeks, or even better, once a month? that’d be nice.

on another note, i’ve been trying to cook more recently since a bunch of my kitchen supplies finally came in. i made a japanese curry with potatoes, carrots, and kabocha yesteday and it’s pretty good!! i wish i’d gotten a spicier roux though. it’s kind of a miracle that i like it so much, because i almost never eat vegetables. i guess the trick is to simmer the veggies until they’re super soft and absorb all the flavors. 

i also found recipes for a turmeric pad thai, “golden” (turmeric) broth noodles, and egg kimbaps that i’m excited to try!! there’s a small japanese grocery store that’s in walking distance from my dorm, but it doesn’t have all the ingredients i need. i also still need to order a mini fridge. but it’s been working out so far!! also want to make carne asada burritos!! i want to make 3 for this week and have the other 3 frozen so i can sorta meal prep throughout the month. i bought a meat thermometo and i’m just. so excited. because i have never made proper steak before, like the kind that’s rare or medium rare? it’ll be great.

okay, i think this is a good place to stop. it’s nice writing about everything here, cohesively. i’m a bit of a rambler on twitter (not that i’m not here, clearly), but i like that i have all my thoughts in a single place, even if there’s no one to read it.

"You're sick Nic- Lucifer." He inwardly exhaled with relief, deciding now was the time to appeal to the serial killer, "You're sick and you need help. They can help you." He didn't know why he separated himself from the FBI and suddenly felt the need to correct his mistake. "I can help you." His voice strained under his false sincerity and the jolt in his stomach was an indication he had regretted his choice of wording. It was also painfully cliché but Sam forgave himself; only a few hours ago, he had been scrubbing a questionable substance off a rickety table and now he found himself talking on the phone to a murderer who had avoided the Law for years only to reveal himself for Sam.

There's a pause, short but significant before Lucifer lets out another sharp chuckle, this time his voice his intermingled with humour and a different emotion - one much harder to read. Pity alongside a sense of purpose, maybe but Sam wouldn’t think too hard about that.

Main reason is i’m just really really bad at socializing, so it’s not anything on u. i’m almost always low on energy and when i do talk to people it wears me out really quick. i’m also just. not gr8 at talking in general so if i can’t think of a reply i tend to just leave things n then end up forgetting about them

honestly my art style is such a fucked up thing that’s so personalized to my own use i can’t do or make tutorials. the best i can do is direct you to my youtube.

sorry, i’ll have to say no. i’m not necessarily busy but i get stressed very easily, so i try to keep my art to either personal stuff or work ! if you would like art from me, please considering commissioning me! mutuals and friends may be the exceptions here if they catch me at a good time or we make plans well ahead to do smth when we’re both free to work on stuff

thank you very much for telling me! don’t message them right off the bat, come to me first and i will deal with it. i’ve dealt with this shit tons of times and it’s tiring as fuck but i’d rather repeat the same stupid civil message over and over again than start a giant calamity over something and end up with someone getting hurt. if you do get involved please stay polite about it don’t throw insults just a simple “hey this art was done by princeofmints/tv-headache/zachary jack/dirtypip/(etc my other account names) and he doesn’t want his art reposted, please take this down or add proper credit.”

sure man. only on places like instagram, tumblr, or twitter though, and proper credit in an easy to see place must be given. if a piece of art is of my ocs or especially vent art though never use it for icons. thank you.

the answer is “no” but i know you’re going to do it anyways. easy to see credit is mandatory. if you see somebody reposting my art please let me know and i’ll talk to them. if you want to use my art in things like image edits, i don’t allow that. want to use my art in a video? if it’s something like an AMV sure fine just credit me and inform me beforehand, if it’s something like a cringe/comparison video. no. i don’t want any association with work like that whatsoever. you may not use my artwork for fanfic covers.

-why do you have an entirely separate blog for your FAQ? you know you can make blog pages, right?

i’m well aware of that and originally my faq WAS set up on a blog page, but unfortunately many folks proved to be either lazy or just couldn’t figure out how to get to a blog page on mobile so i had to set it up this way for accessibility purposes.

-tons of your videos are gone, what happened to them? will they come back? can you repost them?

i set old videos on private for my own sake, i don’t like having my old content available bc it just looks old and stale and i don’t like it. there’s nothing deep about it, i just don’t want people interacting with my old stuff. as deep is it gets is i just deleted videos related to fandoms i’m sick of bc the association is fuckin annoying. these videos will not come back into public. i do keep them posted for my own reflection sake, but that’s it. don’t ask me to bring them back. don’t whine about me not putting shit back out just bc ur a little sad n gonna cry. guilting people is gross, reevaluate yourself.

if you want a song from an old video, just ask me! I’ll happily let you know what the music is in case u liked ‘em and can’t remember the titles or artists. i’ve also got a playlist full of the music i listen to so u can comb through there n see if the songs u want are there
