here it is! the rough idea doodles for other kings! It's just started with giramie (you can find them here ), but i think it will be fun if i added the others too

(warning: big spoiler for soul eater manga, and me nerding over soul eater)

for those who aren't familiar with soul eater, the series revolve around the story of meister and demon weapon (human who can transform into weapons). The students of of Shibusen, school build by 'shinigami' take on missions to collect souls and protect the city from the world's threats.

The school parted into 2 types of class, N.O.T (Normally Overcome Target, class for those who just want to control their powers, pretty much just like a normal class) and E.A.T (Especially Advantaged Talent, consist of the 10% students in shibusen, class for students/agents who use their powers to battle evil)

-this au sets years after soul eater manga ending, where human and witch can already living side by side

-Morfonia used to be in NOT class, but then she moved to EAT class after reunited in shibusen and being partners with rita (they're childhood friends)

-Suzume supposed to be gira's weapon partner, since the Hastie and Dybowski family been on some kind of..bound? relationship? for a long time. But racles don't want gira to be a meister, so he took both of the dybowski siblings as his weapon (welp, gira still finds jera anyway)

-Top 3 EAT class academical rank: Rita, Himeno, Yanma (it's quite a tie with jeramie sometimes), gira is somewhere in the middle, or below-

-Top 3 EAT class physical rank (as in like, PE class): Gira, Rita, Jeramie, (you know where yanma at right)

-yeah i use racs and himeno's p1 hair bcs i love them

-Rita can see someone's soul, while Gira can 'sense' someone's soul perfectly (like, what kind of people they are) and know kishin's soul before they turned into kishin egg (kishin egg: evil souls)

-Sebastian is not a student but he still go to shibusen to accompany himeno as her butler and demon weapon

-before met yanma, shiokara used to be Mayuta's demon weapon partners along with usuba (sniper rifle) and akka (brass knuckle ring)

-Jeramie is a child of demon weapon and witch, his mom run away from the witch realm because she possesses healing magic, which is unforgivable and hated by the witches

-and jera got his black blood from his mother, who didn't know that she was used to be medusa's (antagonist witch in SE) experiment object. Medusa thought she's a failed object, so she throw nephila out of her object list.

-before Jeramie met Gira, he wonder all over death city to find who killed and ate his parents' soul

-Gira don't really like to live in the Hastie's main mansion , so he rented apartments near shibusen together with Jera after decided to be his Meister. As a condition to allow gira living out of the Hastie household, Racles ask Duuga, the Hastie's butler, to visit gira's place from time to time

-Jeramie had this 'madness of hope' that triggered his black blood

-i'm thinking about 'madness of justice' for gira but 'justice' will suit rita more...

i don't think i'll elaborate more about this au, but who knows

NSR: SOUL EATER AU 🌜

Ever since I saw a Soul Eater AU fanart made by @Anger-ey...I couldn't stop thinking about it 😅 So I tried to come up with what would the NSR characters would be in such an AU!! (P.S: Its been a little while since I last saw Soul Eater, so if there's any mistake you find, please take that into account 🙏)

Mayday-weapon, freshmen at the academy. Since the very beginning gave her teachers and potential partners a headache, thankfully, now that is partnered with Zuke is not as dangerous...most of the time. Looks up to Kul Fyra and that's why she decided to enroll in Shibusen ever since she discovered her powers as a weapon. Decided by herself to partner up with Zuke ever since they first met and eventually, managed to convinced him. Though it may seem cliché, her weapon form is a bright red scythe.

Zuke-meister, on his last years at the academy. Sometimes his friends make fun of him for now having a younger partner. During his first year and a few more, he was partnered with EvE, but they fell apart after a certain *incident* while fighting a witch with fire powers. Spent a long while without partner until May came to his life like a storm. Since its known for being a very balanced and serene meister, sometimes teachers ask him to help in demonstration and classes for freshmen students; coincidentally, that's where he met May.

DJSS-weapon, and a very, very powerful one indeed. But much like Excalibur, he is just too picky and too much to handle for anyone. That's why doesn't have a partner at all. Teacher at Shibusen, but not really that excited about his job. his weapon form is a staff with a disk at the end which can control space.

Sayu-witch, and oddly enough, a friendly one. Lives in a small town cheering the villagers with her songs and taking care of a little group of orphans (a.k.a Sayu's team). Only wants to make people happy and spread love around the world; because of that, is really despised by the other witches. Mayday and Zuke try to hunt her but end up sparing her after noticing how important she is to the villagers. Fish motive witch and water powers, still pretty much like a mermaid.

DK West-weapon, to everyone's surprise. Is not affiliated with the Shibusen because he just wants to wander around the world freely, still, if they really need him, would gladly lend a hand. Though he is not really picky about his meister, his life style, carefree personality and flirty demeanor has made a lot of people deny a possible partnership. his weapon form is a shadow lantern which controls and attacks by shadow puppets.

Yinu-weapon/human hybrid. Still too young to be taken into missions but her potential has already been acknowledged by the academy. has regulars check ups about her condition and powers because her mother fears it may be too much for her, specially at such a young age.

Mama-weapon, but no longer on duty. During her young days was so powerful that many mistook her as a witch. her husband was her meister and the only partner she ever had. Currently a teacher at Shibusen while training and taking care of her only daughter. her weapon form are strings that can grow thorns and even control the nature around the battlefield. her powers where kind of unstable during her younger years, and that along with the false rumor that she was a witch made it really difficult to find a partner...until she met Papa, of course.

Neon J-meister (still a cyborg though). Teacher at Shibusen and one of the oldest members among them. has experienced the war against witches since practically the beginning. Lost his old partner and most of his body in a battle against a powerful witch. Made the 1010s as a project to be able to fight against witches even if the academy loses all their weapons/death scythes available.

1010-all weapons, all pistols of different powers. What not many know is that they are *artificial* weapons, created by none other than the well known Neon J. Very known and loved around the female population at the academy. Since they are all weapons under Neon J's command, they sometimes take the role of teachers aids and even act like a disciplinary committee to the students.

EvE-weapon, which has conflicted her ever since birth. Used to be Zuke's partner but due to certain *problems* between them and circumstances, they fell apart. Still a student, but over a higher rank than others since she is under the direct command of Tatiana. her weapon form is a mirror which alters the senses of the enemy and can create color living nightmares out of their minds.

Tatiana-weapon, Death Scythe to be more specific. Teacher of high rank at Shibusen. Devoted to justice and order at all cost since she lost her meister to the madness. Tries to maintain all about her past, old *name* and the identity of her last partner a secret, specially to the students. Mayday has given her quite the headaches since she came to the academy, even though these has lessened since she has partner up with Zuke...they have in fact not ended at all. her weapon form is a fire power spear pretty similar to clock hands.

Soul Eater was one of my first animes I watched and owned in a boxset (never did finish the manga though 😅) and while I haven't watched it in ages it's still nostalgic to me~ I never really had a favourite character but I suppose I always related to Kidds OCD? one more little tibit on my growing soul eater au

I've been thinking about how devil fruits should be integrated into the universe. so what if they were like another type of soul? alongside kishin, witch, mighty, etcetc. one that integrates with the consumers own and can be eaten by anyone regardless of wheatger they are a miester or a weapon, and so are kinda passed down through each user (sabo eating the Mera Mera fruit/soul LITERALLY becoming one with ace... the gomu gomu fruit being passed into Luffy from joyboy/Nika/whoever who is a god at a similar level at death. etc).

also soul resonance allows weapon and miester to exchange pain/injuries now because I need a thriller bark -esque scene to exist.

while my whole inspiration stems from the famous crossover fanart the longer I think about it the more my ideas deviate into my own thing, I'm having alot of fun playing around with different ideas! while they have most of the main characters match different captains of the captain trio and I'll probably stick w those. I'm really liking the idea of sanji as crona. the black blood being the equivalent of judge/the vinsmokes experimentation. and sanji having an artificial weapon as someone who starved for human connection is an idea that absolutely breaks my heart in all the best ways.

I'm still uncertain about any other classifications tbh. I can see Franky as a weapon for obvious reasons, and robin as his miester works. (lots of arms + super versatile weapon = match made in heaven)

I like the idea of nami and usopp being a miester/weapon pair but I'm not sure... the way he in canon builds her iconic climabaton... but also he himself is a character who is super reliant on his arsenal of nick nacks, his whole fighting style is based around it! and I could see nami as a sick ass pistol or smth. idk if anyone has any ideas they'd like to share my ears are wideeee open plzplz

I don't want to come off as rude and I deeply apologize if I do, I'm not meaning to come off as "your interruptions are wrong and you should feel bad". This is just gonna be my own personal thoughts. On that note I'm not gonna pretend I know even 50% of The Arcane lore other than Julian's route and small notes of the others. However, I do know a decent amount about Soul Eater. I'll warn rn, I'll get into stuff like Julian's low self esteem it will be marked in read incase you want to skip to the more light-hearted part.

I don't think there can ever be enough [x fandom] but it's weapons and meisters!Aus. And those are different from [x fandom] but you assign the characters in soul eater to [x fandom] characters. However, I remember in a rare blue [hehe paper] moon, stumbling upon a Julian and Asra fanart but: it was Julian as Maka and Asra as Soul. It was really cute and I liked it alot actually, and there has been an image where the roles were reversed. I could get into who I personally think they be instead of Maka and Soul (tho I understand it has become a thing to put your preferred pairing as the two.) But that's not what I'm here to argue about. 

No no. My beef/nsrs is with Julian being a meister. That man. Genuinely truily. In my heart-est of heart, I'd plead my case in front of a judge. Julian Devorak, would not be a minister. 

And here's why I think he wouldn't be. 

I wanna say; I know he's smart. He's very smart, he's a very educated man. He could pry handle taking calls to action. But I think he'd fare much better having a partner to wield him. He'd also, as a weapon, be meant to take and block hits. Julian, in being a weapon, would flow naturally in the [at least taught] ideal of being a weapon. On the battlefield you are supposed to protect your meister while they weld you and use you to slay your enemies. I also want to plead the idea, that either way of him being a weapon or meister, I think he would work along with mc [keep this in mind, i will bring it back up].

Julian would look cool fighting with a weapon. I understand 100% where someone might come from when putting Julian in Maka's role. Though I think it’d make a bit more sense for him to be in Soul’s role. While Soul is more focused on just doing what he has to [and being cool], he’s more then willing to give up his life for his meister, for better for worse. In the Soul Eater manga [I am staring at it as we speak] Soul is taking hits and says, "Don't worry about me. I'm prepared to die for my meister." While I can see Julain doing that, I can’t see him being comfortable putting someone in that position. And I will relent, I can see the interest in going the meister route for that reasoning. Putting him in a role where he has to make that choose and grow to be more accepting that he also needs help and, as miester, needs to be defended. But I think you can also do that with putting him in the weapons role. Imagine someone engrained in that mindset, viewing themselves as a living shield and in soem way actually being that, learning that they’re more then that and deserve to be seen as important. There is also another reason as to why I don’t think it’d be the best for him to be the miester From what I can recall of the arcana, in Julain’s route, he eventually [and for a short period of time] breaks it off with mc. The wiki says [since I have shit memory] that “he is a disaster waiting to happen and that he doesn't want that disaster to happen to you [mc]”. Having that mindset with your weapon would be terrible and I can only see it being worsened by 3 big factors. 1. It’s normal to have your weapon take the brunt of the attacks but you’re also meant to be leveled enough in battle to guide them properly attack. If he is constantly worrying about MC getting hurted in battle- he just wouldn’t be able to wield them properly. 2. Alot of the main cast [weapons and meisters alike] face up against ‘madness', this heightens those fears. I do not think he would survive with the meister position and then his fear being at an all time high, I think he’d fold in on himself if that were the case. Not to mention if it’s to the point where he’d feel overwhelmed to where he’d have to leave, that would cause such a huge obstacle in what’s called ‘matching wavelengths’. If your soul can not work together with your partner- then you just can’t wield them

Last reason- a lighter reason. I just think he'd look cooler-, I'm finally showing my biases. I think weapons are just cooler. And I know "How could anything other then a dude in a plague doctor mask beating mad ass be cooler"? To which I have to say. It just is. Imagine- the possibilities of what weapons could be would be endless. You could do medieval weapons of that plague doctor time era, or torture devices- there is literally a guy who is a GULLIATION [that guy is my pfp btw]. And imagine the humor, look me in my eyes 👁️👁️and tell me he wouldn't make it so gay if mc was wielding him. It'd just be so good in a comical sense.

I'm not even gonna touch on how I think him a Portia both being weapons and how that would play out would cool too. Cus. If I were to put him in any sort of arc, I pry wouldn't go for maka or soul. I'd go for Liz [but that's neither here nor there]. I could go into how cool witch soul Asra would me. I might just go all out with this sorta thing cus I'm normal about Soul Eater and not crawling up the walls of my enclosure with excitement about how many ideas of this au I have. And now that I can read route summaries I am unstoppable.

Travis: bro's the type to only watch it early morning, mid afternoon because the daylight makes it more enjoyable and his nd ass needs the mood to be there so he can watch his favorite shows. He had a BNHA phase but over the 3rd seasons halfway point he became a Sailor Moon watcher and is now embarrassed to admit he only watches shoujo anime, specifically ones with a good magic system because shapes and colors make him happy /lh

Katelyn: Strictly a magical girl anime enjoyer. I think this is cannon but she's the type to only watch it at night when everyone is asleep so nobody walks in and asks why she's smiling 😭 she never watched the origional Soul Eater but regularly re-watches Soul Eater Not! because that still counts /lh. She never finished Sailor Moon because she wants to watch the movies on the TV but almost never has time alone 😭

Nana: She watches a large variety but refuses to watch BNHA because Bakugou just pisses her off so much 😭 whatever it is about him she just wants to claw his eyes out. She definitely bullies the 30 year old bakugou fangirls /lh

Garroth: watched like one episode of one-piece but didn't care for the art styke and dropped it 😭

Lucinda: girl watches death note and only death note. She just likes the plot and the skrunkly ass man that doesnt wear shoes he's funky and reminds her of one of her ex's when she was still comphet /lh

Aaron: "i dont like the voice acting" he's so picky. Genres don't particularly matter but if the voice acting is a certain way he won't watch it 😭😭

Jeffory: He put on Madoka Magica with Abby thinking it was a cute show to occupy her with when he was too tired one day to play. It in fact was not just a cute magical girl show. She isn't allowed to watch anime he doesn't do research on now no matter how innocent it looks /lh

Travis FOR SURE is a shoujo and shounen enthusiast,, heavy preference for shoujo. He def also watched, or at least tried to watch, a bunch of classic ie Naruto, DBZ, all that wackass 90s/early 2000s stuff lol. He def doesn't watch them anymore but still looks back fondly <3

Katelyn for sure is a softie for magical girl animes and probably enjoys watching shoujos with Travis from time to time, but she vehemently denies it all. I think she would really wanna cosplay some of the characters but would uncomfy with,,,, all of it lol

Nana watches anything popular until she decides that it sucks ass, which doesn't happen very frequently but she def watched episode 1 of BNHA and gave it a HARD pass bc.. yknow.. Bakugou.. anyways she is easily the most involved in Fandom culture and for sure starts shipping discourse for fun lol

I think garroth would be pretty off-put about a lot of anime tropes/genres and would generally not enjoy it but you're so right like so many people in his life watch anime he's gotta at least try right?? Don't ask me where this come from, but lowkey he seems like the kind of guy to accidentally watch a hanime and not realize until if was too late...

Lucinda def does not strike me as someone who really watches anime like at all,, unless the art style is genuinely just gorgeous beyond reason. That being said, I think she's a huge supporter of women's wrongs and would be interested in fucked up (female) charas like Makima from JJK. I don't think she'd ever get around to watching it, but she'd like all the fanart n shit and lowkey be involved in the fandom

Aaron is spot on lol no notes. He started watching it for Aphmau’s sake and while he doesn't dislike it its only very specific anime that he does like. Literally if anything is off it becomes just about unwatchable for him

Jeffory I think started watching because Katelyn used to be SUPER into anime and while he likes it a lot he rarely ever watches, partially bc he's such a busy guy. He def talks about anime the same way a parent would yknow?? Like he's trying to be interested and supportive but he's so out of touch now that he has no fuckin idea what's going on anymore lmao

Aphmau only watches super cutesy things, and sometimes shounens. She seems like the kind of person though he can't for the life of her sit through an entire show, but she's always super active in the fandom and despite never finishing the anime and not reading the manga, she's always up to date on what's going on plot-wise (def not projecting nope no way). The only exception is Attack on Titan which she's seen in full several times

Zane is almost the opposite, generally preferring shows with darker themes and goreier visuals. I generally think he tries to stay away from fandom spaces until he's up to date, and while I think he'd prefer to read the manga before watching the anime that takes a LOT more time and his free time's limited enough as is

A/N: And we've made it...! Posting this ending on Halloween, cuz spooky story from spooky anime for spooky day. Lol I'm not funny. Anyway. Huge thanks to @split-n-splice firstly for getting me into Soul Eater, secondly for the concept of Stein and Spirit being "worn and frayed at the seams" which is a theme that will return in my future stories about them, and for her constantly listening to me babble on and on about characters she's not overly into as I learn this fandom and develop headcanons. Couldn't have done this without her. Check out her sideblog @midnightcaptions for Soul Eater content, and keep an eye on her AO3 for a fanfic to be appearing soon~! What started as a tiny one-shot that never left a hospital room inspired by some lovely, thought-provoking art, turned into this over 16K story, and I'm thrilled with the places it took me! It's been so much fun to explore these characters. And now.....the conclusion.

Epilogue

The hurried clatter of Stein's footsteps and the those of the young meisters running behind him became white noise as his mind raced.

"So, why don't you join me?"

It had startled him, as had the approach of Medusa's lips. He knew she was a witch—the embodiment of evil—and yet he had made no moves to stop her. His accursed scientific nature was curious. Or at least, that was what he let himself believe for the moment. He had more important things to worry about.

Still, the request had hit too close, and far too soon. After the hell he had been through because of Griffin, he mentally cursed himself for even remotely allowing the condemning thought into his head.

The air was damp and chilled below the academy, and Stein shivered as he led the students onward to what would very probably be all of their doom. But he knew—he had been trembling long before they had passed into the darkened tunnels.

'Fear again. Huh. Good, I should be afraid...'

He grit his teeth. The fact that Medusa had so easily distracted him was all the proof he needed that he wasn't as strong as he would need to be for this fight. He had to remain focused on his purpose. He was Death's elite meister. And an instructor...a guardian, he supposed now, of young meisters and weapons. That was his mantra. There could be nothing else.

And somehow, he would have to stop the witch and protect his students...alone.

So distracted had he become in his thoughts that when Kid kicked up the skateboard and Maka slid to a stop behind him, Black Star stumbling next to her in surprise, he had a split-second of wondering before understanding why. And then, the wash of relief as he sensed his soul...

As Maka heralded her father's approach with words of disgust and loathing, all Stein could feel was an uncoiling of the fear that had been constricting his chest.

Despite his determination that he couldn't care and that he couldn't let anything but his assigned purpose matter to him, when it came to Spirit there was something at work in his soul which he did not understand. All he knew for certain now was that he wasn't alone. He didn't need to be alone.

But he knew he shouldn't feel that way.

"How did you manage to escape from the trap they set up there?" he asked automatically as he began to give in, letting his concerns melt away.

His feelings about Spirit, about Medusa, could wait to be analyzed later. His task was what mattered, and if he needed Spirit—and oh, how he needed him—to complete that task, then so be it. He could protect them all, now. He could fight the witch and stop the Kishin's revival. This time...he wouldn't fail.

For the first time since the lost battle on the Forsaken Plains, Stein felt like he could breathe again.

"When it comes to chasing a woman no one's faster than I am," Spirit replied with a thumbs-up and a wink.

Stein felt a familiar annoyance at the reply, and still he almost laughed.

"I should have guessed," he began, the sensation of lightness around his soul taking over his tongue before he could stop it. "It is a relief to see you, though. I wasn't sure how much I'd be able to do without my weapon around."

Stein closed the distance between them and smiled.

Then Spirit frowned and turned his back to him, humming acknowledgment as his frame tensed.

In an instant, everything within Stein broke all over again—just as it had above ground weeks ago when he had stitched and restitched Spirit's wounds. The same as it had on the plains, holding the death scythe's torn and bleeding body; as it had in the Death Room in years past when he'd demanded—and to his surprise, been granted—exile. And as it had when his best friend of five years had told him he no longer trusted him, and that as partners and in every way that mattered, they were finished.

He felt the claws of fear beginning to tear at his soul again. But without even lifting his hand to the screw in his head he banished them before they could sink in.

"You are no longer his meister."

He and Spirit knew each other intimately. They could resonate powerfully. They could fight with hardly any communication needed. But the seams of their partnership were worn, and Stein realized with an ill twisting in his gut that when stitches are frayed, they don't mend.

What had he been thinking? It was weakness to have let Spirit's presence mean anything to him, just as it was weakness to have let Medusa's lying words and false promises distract him.

Anytime he tried to attach any meaning, any value, to anything in his life, he was left disappointed. What was the definition of madness, after all? Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result?

Spirit may not hate him; he was too good a man for that. The scythe may be willing to fight with him when it was necessary. He may in fact desire good for his former meister. But he hadn't forgiven him, and he didn't trust him.

Any thread of friendship that Stein was still reaching for had been lost to him long ago, surrendered to his failures and to the doomed path of madness. It was time he accepted that, and take his purpose to heart. Anything else...everything else, was meaningless.

He was Death's elite meister, and an instructor of young meisters and weapons. He existed to serve, with or without a weapon, and he would serve Death well. Anything else he attempted in life was merely grasping for the wind.

Stein chewed the end of his cigarette a moment as he set aside every distraction. He looked past Spirit, toward the abyss that led to the source of all madness, and he took a breath. He had a job to do. And he was never going to screw it up again.
