I was browsing through the Paranatural tag when I saw a post talking about a certain "Sphinx of Crimes" that Zack Morrison apparently hinted at on their Patreon page, and it made me think. Assuming that this Sphinx is the antithesis of the Sphinx of Rules, the same way the golden Sphinx seems to counteract the Sphinx of Truth, does it mean that the Sphinx of Pacts also has an opposite ? The Sphinx of Betrayal, maybe ? I don't know what I'm getting at, but I thought it was worth mentioning...

been working on this very cool sphinx oc for a while... might make a whole ref for them. here are some notes! :] i really like how i made her biology and everything work so far, i think it makes sense for a coastal-based predator but i am totally open for any notes! my idea was that a knight who is told to smite her ends up realizing that she is not a monster, but rather a harmless lady just enjoying her life. the knight ends up falling in love with her and gives up her duty and becomes a fisherlady and they become bambi lesbians

were there any pre canon concepts for adrien's/felix's room? i hate the canon one so much the layout confuses me

Afraid not. I think the closest we have is the information that Felix/ Adrian's family owned a hotel (this is before he was made into the villain's son.) A lot of early and even current ladybug is pretty focused around Marinette. Nathan-Felix-Adrien as a character is shockingly inconsequential to the narrative as a whole. (Which is probably why he was so easily edited throughout development whereas Marinette stayed pretty consistent.... And is also apparently still the case from what I've heard of the recent season.)

You can actually really see a lot of the inspiration that it transferred to the agreste mansion... But it also lost a lot of style and flair. Richard had a lot of art deco inspiration in the buildings associated with his character. And you can kind of see that in the hotel piece here. It's all connected, at least I believe it is.

It makes sense that the current one is frustrating. It's a mix between " oh this is what a fabulously wealthy teen boy would like" being full of video games and literal arcade machines, but still having like no personality? Like it's big. Because Adrian is rich. And it's like... Largely undecorated because Gabriel is like a minimalist or whatever... Except for all of the stuff that Adrian has because he's rich. And that's literally the end of it.

Edit: If I were to fathom a... A room that does line up with that hotel era then I would do something like this, except with more whites and golds rather than blue... Or just tailor it to however the cat's relationship to his father is.

Archeologists Discover 2,500-Year-Old Midas Dynasty Tomb in Turkey

A 2,500-year-old royal tomb has been discovered by archeologists at the site of an ancient city in Turkey.

After four months of excavations, Penn Museum and Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University archeologists discovered a well-preserved royal tomb chamber that dates back to 8th century BCE (800 to 701 BCE). The tomb's roof was collapsed, but objects inside remained intact, including bronze vessels used during banquets, iron rods, a pair of large bronze cauldrons and assorted smaller bronze cauldrons, jugs and bowls, according to a news release.

The tomb was discovered at the archeological site of Gordion, the capital of the Phrygian kingdom, which controlled much of Asia Minor during the first millennium BCE, Gordion Excavation Director C. Brian Rose said in a news release. Gordion is located in northwest Turkey, about 60 miles southwest of Turkey’s capital Ankara.

At one time, Gordion was ruled by King Midas, famously known for his "golden touch." Archeologists believe that the newly-discovered tomb may have belonged to a member of the Midas dynasty.

Archeologists used magnetic prospection technology to find the tomb, a news release states. This geophysical method uses variations in Earth’s magnetic field to identify objects below the surface, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

to archeologists’ surprise, the tomb indicated a cremated burial. Up until this latest excavation, researchers believed the first cremation to occur in Gordion was more than 100 years later.

Vessels inside the tomb also featured textiles adhered to their exterior, which indicate that textiles were an important industry in Gordion, Rose said in a news release.

The tomb was located near and appeared like the Midas Mound tomb, which is believed to have housed the body of King Midas’ father.

The Gordion site has proved fruitful for archeologists for 75 years, since Penn Museum began leading excavations there in 1950. Previous excavations included the oldest wooden building in the world, dating back to 740 BCE. Others include the earliest colored stone mosaics found in Gordion, the best-preserved citadel gate of the first millennium and a gilded ivory sphinx of the 6th century BCE, according to a news release.

"Good morning, my Little Bird."

Your eyes slowly opened to see the beaked mask of the Crow Headmage watching you closely, a smile on his lips and his eyes glowing in the darkness. The sudden appearance of the male made you almost scream before he shushed you gently and tried to keep you calm. It was nearing the end of the week and you likely were going to have to attend yet another Housewarden meeting to see who would be your guards for the next week.

"What are you doing in here? What time is it?"

"It is early. I wanted to talk with you before we have to meet with the students about your guards. This week is going to be different."

"Different compared to my ovulation or different overall?"

"Different over all."

Crowley sat on the edge of your nest and you sat up, rubbing at your eyes and trying to keep your movements limited so you don't wake Grim. The almost worried way Crowley spoke piqued your interest and you wondered why he was so unsettled. Something must have happened to make him change his behavior and be willing to wake you to speak with you about it.

Despite how much the Crow cooed over you and treated you like his child, he still respected your space more than most students and wouldn't do something so brash without reason. Even the collar- despite how much you disliked it at first- was done for a reason. Now you just needed to know what new hell your life would be facing.

"Get dressed, and we will discuss this downstairs. The other staff are already awake so we can talk about this."

You nodded and Crowley left to give you some time. As you were getting dressed, you vaguely wondered what happened to make such a change on your life and if it had anything to do with the past traumatic events you had already gone through. Surely it couldn't be more threats to remove you from NRC, but you wouldn't put it past the other countries to try and use Erikír's Overblot as more fuel for the fire.

You gathered the sleeping kit into your arms, letting him snuggle into his blanket and purr as you stroked the smooth gray fur. He didn't even rouse as you quietly made your way through the building and to where the staff awaited you in the main lounge area of the dorm. The sun had yet to rise and the staff all seemed rather groggy, most barely awake even as they drank their tea or sipped at their beverages.

Naturally, Divus was first to greet you with a sleepy smile, happy to see you join them and even made space for you to sit next to him. It was difficult to not see the Selkie as a kind of father figure given his protective behavior and gentle attitude towards you. Even Trein seemed like a grandparent given his attitude towards you and the other staff all seemed to fall in similar roles. A large disjointed found family that sought to protect and shield you was certainly not a bad thing by any stretch.

Trein set yet another cup of tea in front of you, the warm porcelain feeling nice on your hands. Even that first sip seemed to warm your insides and settle smoothly in your stomach.

"(Y/n), the Huoshu- the Rat- has been sentenced to death in the Queendom of Roses, and- as per their laws- you need to attend his execution. The representatives agreed to allow you to stay in Night Raven College so long as you make several visits to the various countries that are financing and supporting your wellbeing. Your visit to the Queendom will count as one of these pilgrimages."

"So I won't be here at school for this week then... What does that mean for guards?"

"You will have to choose several students to be your guards while you are away from Night Raven. The staff and I have agreed to allow these selected students to be exempt from schoolwork while they are with you and their guarding will count as full marks for any assignment they miss during this time."

"I choose them?"

Crowley nodded, his feathers slightly ruffled as if he didn't want any of these students to be tasked with your safety. Still, he had a school to run and he couldn't come with you while he was running the school. From the sounds of it, you wouldn't be able to take any of the professors with you on this trip at all.

"Yes. It would make no sense for you to be assigned guards if you do not feel safe with them around you, especially when you are somewhere new and don't know your way around."

"How many can I choose?"

"However many you would like, but I would rather a few Housewardens stay to ensure anarchy doesn't reign."

You sat in silence for a moment, busying yourself with the cup in front of you and trying to mentally parse out what was happening. Even on top of who you would choose- which you had several in mind- there was the question of what would be done with Grim during this time. Honestly, you didn't think he should have to see the execution as he was still so young and shouldn't be exposed to such things at such a tender age. However, if you left him at NRC, he would panic and enter a distressed state without you- his mother- to comfort and soothe him.

"What about Grim? He can't stay here. He will panic without me or think I abandoned him and he doesn't need that kind of stress so early in life. But I don't want him seeing the execution either, that is far too brutal an event for one so young."

Trein nodded to this, his own feline companion Lucius was laying curled up in his arms and sleeping peacefully. None of the staff seemed particularly comfortable with you being away from Night Raven but none seemed to be able to find a better solution. It was only made more dire to know that you had agreed to these 'visits' to other countries prior, meaning you had to follow through with the promises you made.

"He should go with you, and you should cover his eyes during the execution. If he stays, he will work himself into a panic and you won't be there to calm him down. If he goes, he can't leave your side or others may try to use him to get to you. He needs to go with you, but you can stop him from seeing the execution and being impacted by it."

A soft sigh escaped you as you gently pet the kit's head, Grim stretching his paws out in his sleep to grab your hand and nuzzle it. He was so young and so little, it was heartbreaking to think about anyone taking advantage of him to hurt you and that Rat- Huoshu as Crowley claimed- had been willing to pay for the kit to be killed. You wanted the Rat dead, but you knew even the Rat's death would not fully soothe the stressed kit.

"Okay. I agree he should come with, just to keep his stress down. I'll see what I can do about stopping him from seeing the Execution."

"Who would you like to guard you?"

"..."

It was rare that you were the first to arrive for a Housewarden meeting, usually one of the last. However, Crowley waking you early to talk with the staff before he called for a meeting meant you were first to arrive with the Crow and Grim. You figured Malleus would not be in attendance unless you called for him given what Lilia had told you about his issues with technology. Still, you sent a text to Lilia, Silver, and Sebek to try and attend with Malleus so you wouldn't cause the Dragon undue stress.

Given your many options to choose from among your guards, you had a good list of those you were planning to bring along. The only thing that worried you about this list was the potential for the beast men to become either prideful at being selected, or angry at not being selected.

Most of those that filtered in actually seemed pleased to see you already in attendance and you recognized many brought their chosen group along even if they had not guarded you prior. Vil brought Rook and Epel. Riddle brought Trey, Cater, Ace, and Deuce. Leona brought Ruggie and Jack. Azul brought Floyd and Jade. Kalim brought Jamil. Idia brought Ortho. Malleus was last to arrive, but the Hoard came with him always.

When all of the others had finally arrived for the meeting, Crowley actually let you take the lead on it to explain what was happening and why. It was a little odd- as the Crow had not done this prior- but perhaps even he was beginning to realize you had your own agency and could mostly handle yourself.

"I won't be staying at Night Raven this week-"

Your first words were met with outcry from all of the guards and you had to wait for them to fall silent again, now all of them seeming stressed compared to their behavior prior.

"I am to attend the execution of the traitor scientist who hired the Wolves to kill me. He has been sentenced to death by beheading in the Queendom of Roses and I am required to attend. As I will be away from Night Raven and have no magic of my own to protect me from potential threats, Headmage Crowley and the other staff have agreed that I should take several guards with me for this endeavor. Those who come with me will be excused from classwork for the duration of time I am in the Queendom. I have an idea of who I wish to bring with me, but I do have a few questions that will determine who ultimately is selected. Who here is from the Queendom of Roses?"

Riddle was quick to raise his hand, as was Ace, Deuce, and Trey. You nodded, taking note of those who would be familiar with the landscape and the expected rules of the country. Despite knowing you were not held to the same rules as the others, you still didn't want to break any laws regardless of if you would be held accountable or not.

"Very well. Riddle, you're one of the guards I am choosing to come with. We are leaving later today, so I do hope you can pack quickly as we will be in the Queendom for at least six days. I do expect you to tell me of any laws that I need to be mindful of so I do not cause offence while we are in the Queendom. Trey, the Heartslabyul dorm needs at least one of their Dormleaders, so I can't bring you too, despite the fact I would like to bring you both."

Trey nodded, seeming to be somewhat downcast but also understanding your reasoning. His quick acceptance gave you a bit of hope as to how the others would react to not being selected despite how they clearly wished to all come with you.

"Malleus, because I know it will stress you out otherwise and I would rather keep my strongest guard with me, I would like you to come with as well, just in case anything happens. Lilia, that does mean you can't come with since Diasomnia needs you."

"I understand, (Y/n). Hopefully there won't be dire need, but Malleus will absolutely be able to protect you even if I am not there. Keep me updated though, and I will drop everything to come help should you call."

Lilia was always the more socially graceful of the two, and though you wanted him to come instead of Malleus, you still figured the strongest would dissuade others from attacking or trying their luck. Malleus seemed positively thrilled, however.

"Leona, for the sake of Sunset Savana and to combat the racism against Nemean Lions, I do think you should come with as well. Ruggie, I hope you can manage the Pride while Leona is with me."

"Aww, does that mean I have to starve for the week?"

"Ruggie-"

"Shihihi, I'm just playing with you (Y/n). I'll do it, but I want double portions when you get back, okay?"

"Fine. I figured you'd want something in return."

The Gnoll seemed pleased with the arrangement and Leona was beaming with pride. That at least gave you three Housewardens on your side, but you also didn't plan to stop with just the three guards.

"I can't take every Housewarden with me on this, but it would be remiss of me to not include Vice-Housewardens and regular students as well. Rook, you are a Hunter with keen instincts and a sharp eye, I do feel safer if you came with as you can read the body language of others better than I can and you know what behavior to watch out for."

"I will happily take the role of your gallant knight and guard you with my very life, Mademoiselle Trickster."

Rook could keep an eye on vantage points and see if anyone was targeting you, as he had the mind of a hunter. He would be first to know what to look out for and who to be suspicious of while you are exposed to the rest of this insane world.

"Floyd, think you can entertain yourself enough to come with, or should I choose Jade?"

"Naw, Jade is always whining about new foods, don't pick him. I'd be happy to go along with you, Lil Shrimpy. Sounds like it will be a blast and a half!"

Jade sent a pointed glare to his twin, but clearly Floyd was elated by being selected. Azul almost seemed like he wanted to argue with the decision but ensured to keep himself quiet despite his internal protests.

"I don't want to take too many with me on this trip, so I think the five I've chosen are the best bet for this situation. Idia, if I take a tablet with me, will you be able to keep tabs while I am gone?"

"Absolutely."

"Good, does anyone else have any complaints or want to suggest they come along? I'm going to need a good reason to allow it, but I am willing to listen."

You looked around at the group, noticing Azul and Vil were both huffing in anger despite your explanation for not taking them as well. Despite their poor moods, neither of them objected. Much to your surprise, it was actually Ortho who spoke up.

"I think I should come with. I may not be from the Queendom of Roses, but I can scan for unusual behavior, odd activity, and can detect heat signatures through walls. On top of that, I can check to see if there are any unwelcome or undisclosed monitoring technology planted in whatever accommodations are provided."

"That... That is actually a damn good point. Ortho, feel like visiting the Queendom? I will request you don't watch the beheading though... It is sure to be a messy affair and I would rather someone of your age not have to witness that."

"You can count on me!"

Idia seemed a little unsettled with Ortho leaving, but he also seemed to agree with Ortho as to the reasoning for him coming along. He would just have to make sure that Ortho can fix or repair himself well enough before he leaves in case anything happens. The older Shinigami would rather not lose his little brother if he can help it.

"Alright. It is decided. Those who are coming with, make sure you are ready to go by midday today. They will be expecting us."

You stood looking at the mirror in your room, frowning slightly to yourself. There was no way to know if the Ghosts were there or not and you wanted to let them know where you were going before you left, just in case they tried to speak to you. All you could do was hope they heard you as you murmured softly to the mirror.

"I won't be here this week, but I will be back. If you all find something... Anything... Please wait for me to come back. This isn't the end, but... Who knows what will happen? Please... Please wait for me."

A faint shine took over the mirror despite nothing forming in the surface of the glass. Though none of the ghosts spoke to you through the mirror, you still took it as a sign that they heard you.

As you grabbed your bags, a kind of stress overtook you as to what exactly would be waiting for you on the other side of the looking glass. Perhaps the Queendom would welcome you, seeing as so many laws were in place to protect Humans despite their extinction. Perhaps they would covet you the moment you stepped on Queendom soil. Perhaps they would hate you. You really didn't know.

Still, there was no way you could avoid this and you knew the execution was to be a public event. Maybe, just maybe, the laws and the public beheading would be enough to discourage most from acting against you. You weren't holding onto too much hope, however.

Heavy weighs the burden that is being the last of your species in a world that craves so viciously. Heavy weighs the title you were given unwillingly. Heavy weighs the duty foisted upon you.

All you could do now was hope you could survive long enough to escape, and continue the pantomime until you were free.

He pulled the first card, looking at it before he turned it so Agatha could see it too. "The Horse Drawn Carri..."

"The Chariot?" Agatha interrupted him, clearly wanting to get this over with. Plus, it was clear that Billy was not as knowledgeable about it as he claimed to be. "It's literally written on the card."

You looked at your lover. "Let him do it, Agatha. Unless you want to give it a try, " you scolded, knowing fully well how she looked down upon the tarot cards and tarot reading in general.

She would often call it lesser magic or circus tricks.

"Fine," she mumbled and motioned for Billy to continue.

Billy cleared his throst. "Right. So, obviously, you're

leaving somewhere behind, and you have these sphinxes with you, and they represent your... your... mysteriousness."

Agatha placed her elbows on the table and interlocked her fingers before resting her chin on them. "You have a real gift."

"This card hasn't really come up much for me." He confessed and placed the card on one of the carved empty spaces.

Immediately, the sound of metallic objects clanging with one another made you all look up; only then noticing the dozens upon dozens of hanged swords; attached to the ceiling by some sort of string?

You were not sure.

You could not see any details from that distance, but you were quite sure they were not props or fake. Something was telling you that they were real and very sharp swords, positioned in a way that would finish off any one of you.

Billy shallowed hard. "I'll try another one." He drew the next card. "Seven of Swords."

You could not help but scoff faintly. "At least you're on theme." You commented and earned a look from him, clearly not happy with your words. "Sorry," you apologised and gently lifted your hands up as a sign of surrender.

"I know this one. It's about deception and betrayal." He started to explain. "But it's reversed.

So that means the opposite. Are you being truthful?" He questioned and looked at Agatha.

He clearly did not believe her to be saying the truth cause well... she was Agatha Harkness. She won nothing by being honest, and Billy doubted she had ever been, at least with him.

He wasn't sure about you, but considering how you did not expect her visit back then, when they were gathering coven members, and this odd tension existing between the two of you... it was wise of him to assume that you hadn't talked in a while.

And he did wonder if you were even together or had this strange former romantic bond; like how Agatha seemed to have with Rio.

Agatha grew bored of this, not liking be judged or having cards trying to expose her in any way. She had been trying hard to keep that mask, that facade of a tough woman that cared for nothing other than herself.

She couldn't let a few stupid cards ruin that, and she wasn't going to let it happen.

"You know what, I think I will do it instead. My turn." She grabbed the card stack from Billy.

He tried to hold it back, but he was too slowly, and he quickly lost possession of it.

"Agatha," you started, feeling that this was about to turn into a really bad idea.

"Oh, don't you worry now. Tarot is a con like any other, remember?" She asked rhetorically, clearly not sharing your worries or caring about the rules. She never did. "There's no magic to it. There's no skill."

"That's not true." Billy argued. "It's about intuition.

Knowing which card to pull. And it's about interpretation, divining their meaning."

She paid him no mind as she grabbed one random card and placed it on top of the Chariot that he had pulled before.

Suddenly, one of the swords that was hanging from the ceiling was let loose. It pinned itself into the wooden floor, little too close to Billy for his liking.

You looked up with fearful eyes, losing count on how many swords were up there. Worse was the fact that they were so evently spread that it would be impossible to find a spot and be safe.

Agatha placed another card down and then another, clearly just doing it like that and not using any magic or intuition as one should.

She even cackled like a true evil witch as more and more swords started to fall, some closer and some further away from you.

"Agatha!" You called out her name as one sword landed too close to you, making your heart increase in beat at the fact that had you been stabbing one step to the left; you would not be alive and breathing right now.

Your shout made her stop, seeing you eyeing the sword with fear in your eyes. A quick check made her realize you were unharmed, and that was enough.

"Slow down! What is your problem?" Billy shouted, having moved from his chair to avoid a sword that almost hit him.

Agatha looked at the fearful duo. "This is a numbers game. We keep at it until we get the right cards in the right spots or the ceiling runs out of swords."

"This won't work, Ags," you said, shaking your head faintly to emphasise your disagreement.

"I'm not sure how much math you did back in Salem, but that will take forever." Billy argued.

"We still have some time."

"I wish Lilia was here."

And as if the Road had heard him, once again, it happened. The bookcase behind you was pulled open, and Jen with Lilia entered the room; their outfits also changed to fit the trial's theme and mood.

Jen had been affected the most with her evil queen hag outfit, coming along with grey big eyebrows and a nose; an enjoyable sight for you after all the times Jen's attitude had tested your pat

Lilia, on the other hand, seemed to be some sort of good witch based on her outfit; though you could not tell for sure.

What you could tell for sure was the fact that something was going on because Lilia was switching moods.

For example, how, at first, she said she was okay with Billy; holding no grudges, and then... she flipped.

She pointed a finger, harshly pressed against his chest. By instinct alone, Billy started to walk backwards, and Lilia simply kept advancing.

"Whoa! Ow! I thought we were cool!" He exclaimed, eyes daring to glance at you and Agatha for help.

"We are not cool, Teenager." Lilia said, surprising both Jen and Yoi.

"Damn, using his full name." Jen commented, and you nodded silently.

"She is definitely angry, " you commented next.

Lilia was always the calmest, even her threats being of a low tone; which was what was so unique about her.

This time, though, you could see the fire behind her eyes, and even you would not dare to stand in her way.

After all, one would be wise to fear the calm people when they stopped being calm. It was always them that held the most destructive rage.

Ironic, for the same had been told about you; at least until people realized you were never calm. You simply expressed your worry differently or passed phases when you were indiffirent to everything; the world around you sliding off your body and nothing capable of sticking on you.

"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. I shouldn't have lashed out at you. You didn't deserve..." Billy started to apologize. "I wasn't hiding my power from you. I didn't know that I could... I'm not lying to you.

It was a surprise to me, too... if I'd have known, I would've..." he paused for a moment as his telepathic abilities started to work. "Yes, of course, I would have used it to save Alice."

Cult of the Human: Character Breakdown

Hey Guys! Things are finally settling down so I’m starting to get things ready for my yandere Twisted Wonderland series inspired by @kiame-sama’s Humans Are Extinct series. My story is meant to take inspiration from her series and the game Cult of the Lamb. Watch the human be thrust into a new world and have to deal with a world full of obsessed Yanderes. This entry is meant to break down what monsters each of the characters will be and a bit of the idea behind that.

Reasoning:

Heartslabyul- 

Ace is a Pooka as they are mischevious nature spirits. I see him as the rabbit of Heartslabyul, he playful and full of energy, but he will use his power cruelly if he deems necessary. Plus after finding out his unique magic I feel that a creature that copy the looks of others is spot on

Deuce is another story. I wanted a bunny or rabbit due to Deuce’s bunny day card, but I was looking for something that could fit his ready to fight nature. Thus, the Wolpertinger, a cute lil bunny with antlers, wings, and fangs. Looks cute but can go for the throat!

Riddle’s adherents to rules inspired this choice. Lots of myths go over the rules fairies have for their food, parties, homes, etc. I like the idea that Riddle didn’t quite get the playful nature most fairies do with the rules due to his mother. I see him as a flower/flora fairy, his home being a lovely rose bush. 

Cater’s encantado is similar to a selkie, coming from the encantado dolphins in South America. I envision Cater’s water form as more like a mermaid than a full dolphin. The encantado are supposed to be supernaturally gorgeous men, but I feel like that works well with Cater’s established issues with his ‘true’ self. So many see him as just a pretty face so he just keeps up the illusion.

Trey is textbook definition a Brownie. He’s helpful, cooks, cleans, and takes care of others. But I have seen some stories say that when sufficiently pissed off a Brownie can turn into a Boggart. I like to think this fits Trey quite nicely as he is scary when he gets serious. Since I don’t know if these stories are myth accurate though (I found mixed info online) I decided to make him both. His Brownie dad seduced his Boggart mom by just taking care of her an refusing to give up.

Savanaclaw- 

I like Jack as a werewolf, it fits nice but I decided to change it up a little. Sköll in Norse mythology is the son of Fenrir and chases the sun as it sets. In one of my friends D&D campaigns they made Sköll a race of celestial wolves that help lead the way for the stars at night. Very loyal, very strong at night, but weak during the day and need a pack with other creatures to help them.

I’m sorry I tried to find anything else that might fit, but Ruggie is 1000% a gnoll. It just fits him perfectly! I even found pics of a cute one selling his wares and just went, Ruggie would so do that to make a buck.

With Leona I do see how Nemean Lion works for his status as a ruler, but I feel like sphynx fits so much better. Leona is so much smarter than he pretends to be. Sphinx like to play with their food in some myths I’ve read and that reminds me of Leona’s plan for the tournament. Not to mention lots of the art I’ve seen decorates the sphinx in tons of gold and jewels. 

Octavinelle-

For the sea trio I wanted to really lean into the monster inspiration. Not only are they mermen still, but they are a monster out size. Descendents of the great monsters Scylla do Charybdis they can tear apart full ships and devour large beasts. I see the tweels circling and creating a whirlpool or teeth like Charybdis, while Azul hides in a cave and picks off any escaping like Scylla. Makes them an even deadlier trio! 

Scarabia- 

I went looking for a creature to reflect Kalim’s cheerful nature and maybe his love of music. I was lucky to find the Shadhavar, a unicorn-like creature said to bring joy to those around it. The horn on its head is hollow and is supposed to play the most beautiful sounds. Not to mention stories of kings and other royalty paying lots of gold to try and get one in their collection. 

Jamil on the other hand is a Naga, as it fits his personality and name to a tee. I’m thinking of basing him off a sand viper but I am still looking at options. 

Pomfiore-

Epel’s connection with apples is what I wanted to focus on. So I went with a simple apple tree dryad/tree nymph. 

Rook’s nature to hunt put one thing in mind for me, a headless horseman/huntsman, also known as a Dullahan. Rook refused to give up the hunt in life, or in death (joking). Rook seems to have a poisonous smoke wafting from his neck when his head is not attached (courtesy of Vil).

Vil is inspired by the original sirens or Greek myth (bird women also sometimes classified with harpies) and the more modern idea of sirens as more mermaid-like. Either way his beauty and voice draw others in, either to their doom or to heap praise upon him. But do NOT underestimate Vil, both sides of his family are viciously savage when scorned. 

Ignihyde- 

For Idia and Ortho I mixed Will-o’-wisps and a local legend of ghost lights. They are meant to be benevolent, leading lost souls home or the dead to the afterlife. But to not ever try to harm them, their fire can burn your very soul out of existence. Feel like this can really work with Idia not liking being near others (always floating just out of reach) and Ortho’s helpful nature. 

Diasomnia- 

Originally I was going for a more crocodilian monster, but then I saw Kobolds in the D&D manual. The fact that some play them off as worshiping dragons, being brash and loud, not always the most socially aware… So does Sebek know he’s a Kobold?

For Silver I thought about the Baku for a sec, but I feel like a Nightmare centaur is just perfect for Silver. Pulls on his equestrian training and his unique magic. Though instead of spreading nightmares I imagine he would fight them off. 

Lilia is a vampire bat fae, not really much different than he is in the original game. 

Malleus is also pretty similar to how he is in game. I plan to lean into how his type of dragon is different in my world and how he has more bird tendencies from his father, not to mention play with his demon heritage.

Staff- 

For Crowley I wanted to really focus on his desire to share information. He may not be a great headmage in game but he has a slightly different role in my story. I made him a Crow Herold, basically a spirit of knowledge that tries to pass it on like how crows teach their young.

Crewel needs his coat, selkie can not be beat. I know there are other tales of creature taking off their coat/skin to reveal a person beneath, but selkies just felt more like they fit Crewel (especially with how brutal seals and sea lions can be). 

Sam is a deal maker, a business man, he will get you what you ask as long as you pay the price. He is a crossroads demon who is trying to get people to see that demons stick to their deals. They have more in common with the rule following fae and fairies than most like to admit. 

Trien’s long live and knowledge of history feels most important to my story so I wanted a creature known for their intelligence. He started off as a Griffin before he shifted to a Hippogriff due to my story changing. He is calm and kind, very nurturing, but do keep in mind he still has claws.

Vargas is a Minotaur, strong, proud, and bullheaded. He can be kind, especially to the younger creatures, but he can have a hairpin trigger at times.

Others-

Grim is a chimera, though he may look like an odd cat creature now, he will grow more and more of his features over time. Right now he has some tiny bat wings and his tail has fangs (but not a full snakes head).

 Rollo is a phoenix, as he needs an association with fire, but I felt like the phoenix makes his story more tragic. He can survive what his brother could not and it haunts him to this very day. 

Fellow is a Huli Jing, while he may not be outright malicious he is a trickster and he will defend his brother to the death. He has many tricks but his magic is not the strongest.

I see Gino as a young bakeneko. Fellow is helping him learn to control his shape shifting and illusions, but the lack of voice makes some of his magic useless or difficult. 

Chenya on the other hand is an oddity among his species. Most matagots are black cats so Chenya’s colorful coat stands out. He quite likes that fact but does wonder where it came from. He’s seen as mostly a household spirit, but do remember matagots can bring ruin when necessary. 

Neige felt like he needed a cute creature that is more often overlooked. Pixies and sprites can be cute and are usually associated with light and whimsy, but they do have plenty of stories of leading others astray and attacking. Neige is genuinely sweet and wants the best for others, especially for the dwarves in his care, but he will fight when needed. 

Skully as a revenant just makes sense for me. A spirit who can never pass on, drifting in and out of places. He usually sticks around the area where he died, feeling lost anywhere else. It is unsure if Skully was a human in his past life or one of the other human-like creatures since he can’t really remember too much of his past. 

The Great Seven-

The Queen of Hearts (named Cordelia) is a mix of Flora Fae and Tinker Fairy. Flora Fae comes from the great amount of flowers and other flora in Alice in Wonderland. She has a tie to all of the all of the plant life, and like Riddle her odd rules. Tinker fairy ties into Disney lore for fairies like Tinkerbell. They build and craft things, leading to her building her queendom. 

Scar is a sphinx just like his descendents, but he has Nemean Lion mixed in making him so much stronger and near invincible. 

Ursula was born a simple Cecaelia but through hard work and magical practice she became a Scylla. So big and so terrifying that no one dared challenge her kingdom.

Jafar on the other hand, had to hide his Basalik lineage for a while, as many still saw them as wild beasts. He proved to his people that while they had deadly abilities beyond that of their naga cousins, they could be just as amiable as the other snakes.

Grimhilde is a raven harpy, with feathers so black they make the night sky look grey. But when you look closely you see a rainbow of colors as her feathers shine like jewels. While most can not tell of her banshee ancestry by appearance she is said to have  fought of invaders with her deathly wail. Her people still called her fairest of all after seeing her old hag form for she was beautiful no matter the appearance.

Hades is like Scar, he matches his descendants, but he was more. On top of being a will-o-wisp he was a powerful fire fae, some think maybe even an infernal. His fires blazed so hot that he is said to have melted an entire army.

Maleficent’s a dragon fae like normal, but I also added Celestial fae. Said to be born of the new moon she holds a great relationship with the night. Some even say she was the first nocturnal fae to have woken from the wild.

“Its because your dad wants to babysit” Will informs him after a long bitch fest “he did the same thing before you figured out family dinners, remember”

Nico pauses, thinks it over, and then puts his face in his hands to groan “Fuck your right”

“Im always right”

“Don't start” Nico does not whine

“Just add him to the pick up drop off list” his husband laughs “then he can go have Grandpa time and we can get a date night”

“Are you sure?” Nico checks “he can be a lot”

“Lay down some rules first” Will shrugs, like a primordial force in the Kiss and Ride is no big deal “Just like you did last time”

Nico’s husband is so smart, he loves him so much. Nico makes a point to call his dad the next day to set things in motion

And his dad looks so guilty at the accusation, the same way he was when Nico called him out about the same thing before. It's comical in a way, the King of Hell looking a little like a puppy getting scolded after chewing a shoe under the indictment of his mortal son. Who says the gods can't be humbled

“Look, we're not saying you can't spend time with Katie, in fact we're saying the opposite. You just can't be pulling me off on jobs right and left so you can babysit, I'm exhausted and it's not good for Piccolina to spend so much time downstairs” Nico explains not unlikely “Also Jason is about to start trying to pick her up from you himself, I think he's going into kid withdrawal”

“The blond Valdez is banished from my kingdom until it is time for a permanent death” his father snaps “the two of them are on thin ice”

“Yeah well keep in mind that if you kill her uncles Katie will never forgive you,” Nico reminds “I think she loves Leo more than us sometimes”

“I will, refrain, from balancing the scales in regards to the Valdez's” Hades says only a little through his teeth, sounding more worried about his granddaughter's ire than killing two dudes who his son considers family “but they will not be allowed to ‘pick up’ from the palace, I can only bend things so far”

“Cool, works for us” Nico says “were planning on adding you to the pickup drop-off list”

“the pickup drop-off list?”

“Yeah, so you will be allowed to collect her after school”

“I do not need to be added to a list” Hades scoffs “I can just go in and get her”

“Uh no you can not” Nico tells him “The school secretary is a sphinx and I do not need to do the bureaucratic circus tricks she makes people do when they fuck around with her kids, there's a reason Leo got taken off the list”

The reason is Leo kept landing Festus on the roof and then entering the school through the roof access instead of the front door like visitors are supposed to. And while Miss. Tina is a lovely woman who cares very deeply about her work, she does not take kindly to little Latin twinks who think they can find a ‘secret entrance’ to what and who she is guarding.

Miss.Tina is one of the main reasons Katie is in the school she is, along with the three whole saitors who work there; especially Miss. Holly Fields the school nurse who specialises in getting kids diagnosed with an array of neurodivergentcies. It's part of a growing network of schools that The Program has been helping to not only get monsters and other mythological creatures jobs, but find young demigods faster. The earlier a kid is spotted the better, and well-staffed schools help protect the halflings that are not year-rounders

Its the reason they went with public school over the private schools they could have easily gotten Katie into, its safe there. There are two other demigod students in the building and they haven't had an successful monster atack in years, the magical employees make sure of that

Ok y’all, what about this

Rick writes a new Percy Jackson book,

The War Of The Gods (or smth)

The Greek, Norse and Egyptian gods decide that this universe can only be ruled by one pantheon of deities, and go to war with each other. This war forces Sadie and Carter & Co., Magnus and Alex & Co., and Percy and Annabeth & Co., to all come together and stop the gods from destroying everything in their “war”

They don’t go all out, as in destroying the planet, but they cause a bunch of natural disasters and such, and destroy each others shrines and go after each others sacred places and such (Athens, Egypt (edit: the pyramids or sphinx, specifically), etc)

Maybe, they find one ally in each pantheon of gods (Freya, Aphrodite, and Thoth, for example) who help them stop the war.

Maybe they force the different gods to realize that they rely on one another. For example, during ToA, Apollo wasn’t able to pull the Sun across the sky, but day and night still happed just as they were supposed to. (This might’ve been because of the Earth’s rotation, but it also could’ve been because of another god or goddess)
