Little Yellow Emperor: the Life of Napoleon in LEGO
Tumblr media
The Battle of Waterloo Domain is hosting a LEGO exhibit called "THE LEGEND OF NAPOLEON IN LEGO BRICKS." As a recovering LEGO addict and an eternal fan of 18th/19th-century French history, I simply had to go. After successfully bribing the husband with beer and fries and the children with waffles, we made the trip today.
The exhibition was smaller than I expected, but some of the builds were genuinely impressive. It traces Napoleon's life from his birth in Corsica to his death on Saint Helena—a neat, bite-sized way to introduce his story, and a fun way of recreating history. However, one thing that did bug me a bit: while the audio guide is available in multiple languages, all the wall texts are in French. In a trilingual country, especially at such a touristy site, that feels like a bit of a miss (plus, it gave the Dutch-speaking husband an excuse to grumble).
Gripes aside (1), the exhibit was a lot of fun. Here are my favourite builds.
1. The Campaign in Egypt
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This recreation of Napoleon’s Egyptian campaign is absolutely brilliant. The photos don’t do it justice—every detail, from the Sphinx to the busy French camp, is spot on. It's also huge and apparently took close to 70 hours to build! @chickenmadam can you spot Kléber?
2. Napoleon's Coronation as Emperor
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The second build, depicting Napoleon's coronation, may be smaller, but it's full of impressive details. I especially loved the grumpy expression on Pope Pius VII’s face, along with the equally unimpressed looks from the rest of the clergy—it really adds character to the scene!
3. The Coup on 18th Brumaire
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Again not a very big build but... those red capes... the hats... the outfits —need I say more?
4. Napoleon asks Josephine for a Divorce
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This moment is supposed to be, by all accounts, heart-wrenching for everyone involved—Napoleon asking Josephine for a divorce. But, since it’s LEGO, it ends up looking unintentionally hilarious.
5. The Crossing of the Berezina River
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is another brilliant build, capturing what was arguably Napoleon's greatest military disaster. While it's not as large as the Egypt campaign scene, it’s packed with intricate details that make it just as interesting.
6. Napoleon's Civil Code
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yes. He has a GIANT parchment.
7. Daddy Napoleon and his son
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Because the King of Rome has a purple teddybear and a grumpy statue of his dad in his room...
Bonus: The Battle of the Arcole Bridge
Tumblr media
Not particularly impressive per see as a build, but this is one of my favourite moments in Napoleon's story, so... why not?
Notes
(1) Yes, they recreated the siege of Toulon. No, Bonbon isn't in it. That makes me sad.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And here, as requested, are Honorable mentions, in no particular order (some less honorable than others), with their reasons for exclusion:
Mikeko (Ace Attorney): Apparently Apollo's cat but as far as I can tell it was only mentioned not shown, you've got other cats in
Any of the playable cats (Catlateral Damage): yeah I'm not even digging into that I mean I tried but naaaah (not to sound lazy but if it doesn't have a good wiki page I'm not doing it sorry I've had this many cats to dig through; I did save the game to check out in my own time tho so cudos for that)
Tasque Manager (Deltarune): not cat enough
Doraemon (Doraemon ): if only this thing had cat ears... or a cat tail... preferably both... I get that it's a robot but it could be a lot of animals honestly
Lizzie (Empires Smp): whomst (if what I found is what was meant then it's a fish not cat)
Kitty Cheshire (Ever After High): not cat enough
Nepeta Lejiom (Homestuck): not sure she's cat at least ENOUGH if at all, don't know enough about homestuck, owner of Pounce who is in anyway (entry said they're sorry lmao)
Schrödinger (Időfutár): "Time-travelling cat" I have failed in finding their picture and it seems too niche to be presented without it even though I am so intrigued and regret I don't know the language of the source material I'd love to give it a read/listen
Revolver Ocelot (Metal Gear Solid): Compares himself to ocelots and meows apparently, but no visible cat aesthetic sorry
Raku-chan (Nyan Neko Sugar Girls ): why.
Aisha Clan-Clan (Outlaw Star): not enough cat
Honey the Cat (Sonic the Hedgehog): that's enough cats from sonic (real reason: model so low-poly she would cut her opponents, and before you argue - there's a difference between pixel models and low-poly old games models)
The song pet cheetah twenty one pilots concept album lore: oof yeah um I get what a concept album is kinda buuut it's just a weird entry idk we've got plenty of fandom cats to go around
Gaetan (The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt): Witcher from school of cat but he's still well pretty much human (don't come at me about witchers not being the same as humans he's not a CAT and that's all that matters to me)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What's next?
Well, I have to make the bracket itself. As you can see, there's a bit more cats than I was intending to have, which means that certain polls in round 1 will have more than just two options. I can already tell you that a lot of the cats from the same fandoms are going to be eliminated in round one. That's why I kept them in. I'm planning on making up the first round match ups based heavily on the similarities between cats and the fandoms they're from. ALSO as you've probably noticed, some cats come in a bundle. That's because they're a family. I'm not doing this to Kitty Softpaws and Puss (at least YET), because even though they also get married in the end, there's a huge gap in their submission numbers. If you're wondering, how big, you may want to know that up to Tigger from Winnie the Pooh (that is, almost the entire first pic) are the cats that got 2+ submissions, in their order of popularity.
Next step - brackets!!! I want to do this well and I hope I don't underestimate certain fandoms!!!

To Be A Knight
This is the beginning of a collection of one shots following Seth's adventures as a Knight of the Dawn
Description: Like most young boys Seth had always dreamed of being a spy. He had spent most of his childhood sneaking around the house with a walky-talky while humming the Mission Impossible theme song. And while he technically still wasn't a spy,he was pretty darn close.
May 20
St.Matthew's Island, Alaska
6:25 pm
"Sorenson, I've got a job for you." came a gruff voice from down the hall. Seth turned and saw his handler, a man by the name of Flynn Hotching, leaning out of the door to his office. Flynn was a tall and strong man with a broad frame. At fifty five he was in excellent shape and the only indications to his age were the flecks of white that were sprinkled throughout his dark hair and neatly trimmed beard. Flynn was a serious man and often gave off an intimidating vibe, but Seth knew that he wasn't that bad once you got to know him.
Seth stood, ignoring the way his back popped and cracked in protest because of how long he had spent sitting in the rather uncomfortable wooden chair. He had once started a petition to replace them with those really comfortable bean bag chairs. He actually had quite a few supporters. But Flynn, being the man he was, just rolled his eyes and walked away. Seth could feel the stares of his fellow knights burning into the back of his head as he made his way over but opted to ignore it. Seth got missions quite frequently, a fact that many knights were slightly jealous of since it would occasionally get him out of some the more mundane tasks a Knight had to complete. For example, paper work. Which is what he had been doing when he had been called. He quickly made his way over, eager to get away from the evil sea of inevitable paper cuts. He couldn't help but chuckle as he mentally heard Eve calling him a drama queen. Though she wasn't much better.
Flynn barely waited for the door of his to close behind him before he began pouring out the details of whatever job he had lined up.
" There's a dealer that's been causing us some problems. They are preying on creatures such as unicorns and there has been some rumors that they are working with some less than savory characters. I need you to track them down. " Flynn stated firmly. Seth narrowed his eyes, there was no way it was that easy. If it was that simple then they would have brought in a rookie.
"Ok, what's the catch." He replied crossing his arms over his chest. The man heaved a sigh before sliding a file towards him.
" The catch is we don't have any idea who the dealer is. We don't even have a description. However, all of our dealers crimes have a certain flare to them and we have reason to believe that he is human. We have intercepted news of a deal taking place in three days in Belize. "
Seth read the file and whistled at the lack of information. The file was extremely limited which meant that whoever was doing this knew what they were doing. The Knights of the Dawn had excellent connections and kept tabs on every possible threat so for them to be this uninformed- well lets just say it wasn't good. It also meant he was walking into this mission completely blind. He couldn't plan for anything meaning he had to plan for everything. He had no idea what was going to happen once he got there but, if you ask Seth, that was part of the fun.
"Alright I'll do it." Seth replied after a moment of thought. He had to admit he only pretended to think about it, mostly just for the suspense. He had always loved a good mystery and this mission honestly excited him.
"Good, your plane leaves tomorrow at eight am sharp. You will be issued a bag that will be stocked with supplies but I advise you to bring anything you think would be useful" He said gesturing to the satchel over his shoulder, that served as his emergency kit. " I have wired five thousand dollars into your account but if you need more than that you know who to call." Seth nodded, placing the folder in his satchel and walked out of the office, heading to his apartment to prepare for the mission ahead. He pulled his coat tighter around his body as he walked outside and realized that it was later than he had originally thought. The sun was just beginning to dip below the horizon and though Seth loved the pinks and oranges that painted the sky, he could practically feel the temperature dropping. Last time he had checked it was 25 degrees, which is no where near as cold as it could get but it was still very cold. Despite how long he had been in Alaska, he had yet to get used to the bitter cold. And he honestly didn't think he ever would. Seth guessed he should count himself lucky, this was the Knights biggest base and it had been cleverly hidden by distractor spells as well as the natural terrain of the island. Seth shivered as a strong gust of wind blew through the base reminding him of the other reason it stayed hidden from most people. Luckily he lived on the grounds of the base so it was only about a minutes walk.
The Knights of the Dawn had no shortage of money. Seth wasn't sure how they got there hands on so much money and honestly he didn't want to know. It was all warranted though considering how many supplies they had to buy along with the amount of damage control. It was amazing sometimes how much chaos a secret organization could cause. Seth knew he definitely wasn't the favourite over in the legal department because of some of the 'incidents' that had been a result of his missions. Seth was proud to be able to state that these incidents were few and far between but when they did happen he knew they had to be a nightmare to clean up.
Needless to say, with all that money, his apartment was very nice. It had a decent size living room and kitchen which connected go a small dining area. Upstairs there was two bedrooms and a bathroom. Seth's furniture was pretty sparse if he was being honest. He had a couch that had been there when he moved in, his bed, a desk, a small dining table that has also come with the apartment, as well as few chairs scattered here and there. It didn't bother him in the slightest. He honestly wasn't here that often. He slept there when he wasn't out on missions which, once again, was pretty rare. Besides the real fun began downstairs. He walked down the stairs into what appeared to be a musty, unfinished basement. A punching bag hung from one of the exposed beams and a small pile of weights sat not far from it. Seth rarely used those, they were reserved for restless nights when the big communal gym and training area was closed for the night.
Seth strode confidently towards the back wall and slid away a lose board revealing a keypad. It was truly a horrible hiding spot for something that important but there wasn't really anything he could do about it. The neat thing about the keypad though was that it had been enchanted so that he was the only one who could touch it. Meaning that not only did you need the correct code, but he had to be the one to punch it in. He wasn't exactly sure what would happen if someone else touched it but he knew it would do more than just set off an alarm. Stuff like always made Seth feel like a true spy and totally made up for the unsecured hiding space.
Seth punched in the code and heard the distinct sound of stone scraping on stone, briefly reminding him of his few days spent in the Sphinx's prison. When the sound stopped, a small opening was revealed that lead to a room containing his weapons and supplies. From the outside the room appeared to be tiny and cramped but it had also been enchanted to be much bigger on the inside. It wasn't quite as big as the knapsack they had all those years ago but it was nothing to sneeze at. Still, no matter how big it was on the outside, Seth had to crouch down to fit through the opening. The door frame was ridiculously short and the amount of time he had smacked his head against the top was honestly embarrassing. The supplies inside the room was a knights dream. There was everything you could dream of, swords, daggers, armor, bows, you name it. The special thing about this room though, was that most of the items were his. They were things he had gathered prior to becoming a knight. Seth also had several magical talismans and tools that had gotten him out of more than a few sketchy situations. His favorite talisman was a ring that sat on his right forefinger. The ring had been a gift from The Fairy King when Seth had been accepted into the Knights Academy. It was pitch black and didn't look like much at first glance however, when you looked closer you could see three unicorns that were engraved on its surface, each of which served more functional purposes. The first unicorn, when pressed, sent out a distress signal strong enough to reach Bracken even if he was in the fairy realm. The distress signal also went out to anyone who had a connected talisman. At this point the only ones being himself and Kendra who had gotten hers when she officially began dating Bracken in the form of a bracelet. The second unicorn held a few precious drops of unicorn blood. The substance could heal almost anything but it could only be used once. The final unicorn was arguably Seth's favorite. When it was pressed it would release a pearly white dagger which had been extremely helpful in the past. The downside to this tool was that, since it was made of light, he tended to have a harder time controlling it.
Seth looked through his stash, trying to decide which weapons were right for this particular mission. He knew at this point stealth was key but if you leave for a job without a weapon, you're just going to get yourself killed.
When going on stealth missions the best route to take is small weapons that can be easily concealed, such as daggers or blow darts. However, the problem with that was those were easily detected when going through airport security. Ever since becoming a knight Seth had decided that he hated flying. It was loud, chaotic, and absolutely impossible to tell who was a danger to you.
Plus carrying weapons onto the plane was pretty much impossible but, a knight needed to be prepared in every situation. The weapon had to be easily accessible, ready at a moments notice, and the best way to do that is to build a weapon that doesn't look like a weapon. Seth walked over to a small red tool box tucked away in the corner, and pulled out a large nut and and tied a piece of cord to it. He secured the cord and then started to spin it, making sure nothing was going to fall off. And just like that he had a weapon that made a killer whip and could easily crack a mans skull if it came down to that. The best part was that it wouldn't trip any alarms. Sure it might seem a little odd that someone carries a piece of cord tied to a nut but, he wouldn't get arrested for it. Seth tied the lose cord around his neck, creating a necklace that he could hide underneath his shirt until it was needed. When that was finished he turned his attention to his emergency kit and sifted through the various items, taking out anything that would tip off a scanner. Seth gathered the items that he had taken out and moved towards the suitcase that he would be taking with him. He felt around one of the sides and unzipped a pocket so small that you most likely wouldn't see unless you knew it was there. In the pocket he placed the remaining items of his emergency kit. This time he wasn't worried about the items being seen as the pocket had been enchanted to hide the items from sight. Seth then repeated the process with the bottom of the suitcase, peeling back the inside to reveal a similar compartment that had also been enchanted to be bigger. In this pocket he placed two daggers, A blow gun and darts, and his favorite sword. He pulled the sword out of it's sheath and inspected it for any chips or dull edges. The sword was jet black and held the name Shadow Slayer, which was kind of ironic given its nature. The sword held just enough darkness to work well with him but not so much that there was a risk it would corrupt him. He had found the sword while on a mission for the fairy realm not long before joining the Knights. He was pretty sure he wasn't going to use it because lets face it, milk or no milk a sword was still a sword. However, Seth had learned that it payed to be prepared. So with that thought in mind, he placed the sheathed sword in the compartment, closed it up, and began to carry it upstairs to his bedroom. He filled the rest of the suit case with clothes and other essentials and once he was satisfied that he had everything, he closed it up.
He slumped down in his desk chair and pulled out the file he had stashed in his emergency kit, pouring over what little detail it had and attempting to prepare for what was to come.

May 21
St.Matthews Island, Alaska
5:00am
The next morning Seth was up well before five am preparing for the mission ahead. Thankfully he had always been a morning person so the early hour didn't bother him in the slightest. He grabbed his bags and exited the apartment, heading to the missions office to pick up the final things he would need for this job.
The lady at the desk, He pretty sure her name is Jennifer, smiled at him as he approached the counter. She was a women in her mid thirties and she was one of the nicer people that worked the desk. There were quite a few of the people working here that obviously didn't want to and others who even seemed to resent it. Seth really couldn't blame them though, he had worked here for a few months while he was going through training and it definitely hadn't been the most fun or exciting job out there.
" ID and case number?" She asked as more of a formality than anything else. Seth was such a regular visitor that he was pretty sure they knew who he was. However, since it was required, he slid showed them his badge and rattled the number off anyway. Seth supposed that he coukd see the logic behind the badge. It was a way of identifing someone beyond ther looks. All of them had been enchanted fo return to their owners, generally via their pocket, should they be lost. Seems simple and secure enough. However, in their line of work things were rarely that black and white. Seth is not entirely sure what would happen to the badge if their was a stingbuld or if the enchantment could be removed. Luckily they didn't do much. They were just means of identification and they didn't let you into anything at all. Any area qhich required a certain level of access had several different enchantments placed on it. Ones that were designed to recognize the person requesting access and weed out potential imposters. After the battle of Zzyzx and the whole mess with the Evening Star, the knights had undergone huge security upgrades. Bracken as well as one of his sisters, Iredessa, had set mist of the enchantments. Kendra had also played a major part on strengthening these enchantments a few years ago.
The case numbers were pretty harmless. Not the most secure but all they did was let the people at the desk know what bag of supplies to get. It didn't give access to any crucial or confidential information. The most a fake could get was an issued duffle bag and possibly some.plane tickets.
Jennifer smiled as she stood and disappeared through a secured metal door. When she returned a few minutes later she was carrying a black duffle bag which she passed to him over the counter along with a two way plane ticket.
"Thanks a lot," Seth told her, flashing a bright smile her way. She hummed in response before responding,
"Stay safe out there,"
"I'll try my best," Seth replied with a grin as he headed towards the door and began the short treck to the parking lot where a car would take him to the airport. He knew he must have looked a little funny carrying around a huge duffle bag, suit case and a leather satchel that sat across his shoulder but he wasn't worried. Every Knight here had been in similar situations before. Seth looked around the parking lot, squinting in the bright morning sun, before making his way to the small grey jeep that sat close to the front. Leaning against the side was a tall guy with wind blown red hair and a lean build. Seth smiled when he spotted him. The man's name was Parker and he was one of Seth's closest friends here on the base. They had gone through training together though, Parker was about three years older than him. He was twenty-four while Seth was only twenty-one. Seth, unfortunately, hadn't had a lot of friends at that time. Because of his shadow charmer status, people tended to be wary of him but Parker had never been deterred by his abnormal abilities.
In between his own missions Parker volunteered to drive Knights back and forth to the airport. Due to Seth's frequent missions, the two usually ended up paired together.
"Another one Sorenson? Didn't you just finish that one in Sweeping Pine preserve like a week ago?"
" Yeah, Jealous?" Seth teased, raising his eyebrows. Parker laughed and shot a playful glare at the taller boy. Despite Parker's tall height, he was still at least and inch shorter than Seth. Though to be fair, not many people were taller than Seth. A fact that many people found unsettling.
" Just a little bit dude. What, you trying to show the rest of us up or something?" Parker laughed back, poking Seth in the side as he got into the car. Seth rolled his eyes as he loaded his bags into the car before following Parker's lead. They road in silence for several minutes as Parker navigated his way out of the crowded base and set up the directions to the international airport. It wasn't everyday that a Knight flew internationally for a mission. Generally if they were going to somewhere outside the country they were going to a preserve and would have to be flown there by helicopter or other means. So while it did happen, it didn't happen often.
Seth used the temporary quiet to unzip the bulky duffle bag and look at its contents.
Looking into his bag for a mission and seeing the certain supplies or gadgets still made him a bit giddy. Like most young boys, Seth had always wanted to be a spy. He had spent most of his childhood sneaking around the house with a cheap walky-talky while humming the mission impossible theme song. And while he technically wasn't a spy, he was pretty darn close. One of the common misconceptions about the Knights of the Dawn was that they didn't use any human or modern technology such as computers and other gadgets to do their job. However that was far from true. Sure they tended to avoid it when dealing directly with magical creatures, but they often used these gadgets for things such reconnaissance.
Inside the bag was some of the things you would expect such a binoculars and many more that you wouldn't expect. Seth's favorite part of these bags were the small box near the bottom that generally came with each one. The box contained different potions that you might need for the mission. Seth had always found potions to be fascinating. There had even been a time that he had considered going into the field himself. For this particular mission he had been given a night vision potion which was pretty self explanatory, An eavesdropping potion that enhanced his hearing and allowed him to listen in on a conversation without getting too close, and a form of truth serum that would loosen the lips of of someone you wish to get information from. There was at least three bottles of each along with the normal defense and first aid potions that were added. Such as, the gaseous potion, a potion for pain, a salve for injuries and many more. On top of that Tanu insisted on making sure that Seth was always stocked with his own personal set of potions. Tanu usually supplied him with more gaseous potions, a gummy potion, a giant potion, a new potion that enhanced his focus and his reflexes, as well as plenty of first aid related ones. He seemed to be convinced that Seth would end up seriously injured on every mission. Though sadly, Seth could admit, that the worry wasn't completely unfounded. Other than the potions, the bag contained an enchanted communicator, a few listening devices, a laptop, and a few other useful knick knacks.
" Got anything good in there?" Parker questioned.
" You bet," Seth replied holding up the box of potions that was in his bag even knowing that with his friends eyes on the road and so Parker probably couldn't see them. Parker laughed anyway not needing his eyes to know what Seth was referring to.
" Seth, I swear I have never seen anyone get so excited over potions before."
" What can I say, I'm a simple guy," He replied earning a scoff from Parker.
" Uh huh, says the literal Shadow Charmer who has a mission every other week," The pair laughed once again and fell into an easy back and forth banter. Continuing there shenanigans until they pulled into the airport. It was then, as much as he, loathed to do it he bid Parker farewell , thanked him for the ride, and walked into the crowded airport.
Arriving at the airport was just as hectic as he expected it to be. Of course it was crazy for everyone but, it was even more so when you are constantly looking over your shoulder or waiting to get stopped by airport security. Thankfully he was able to board the plane okay even if his makeshift weapon did raise a few eyebrows.
Something Seth had learned was that a knight should always fly economy. It may not be the most comfortable but few people would start a fight with that many witnesses around. Plus it was easier to blend in. A tee shirt and some jeans and you were all set. Ready to settle in for a long flight.
Seth popped one ear bud in his ear but left the other out in order to let him hear incoming threats. Seth found it impossible to sleep on a plane, no matter how long the journey was, because of the unknown circumstances. It would be difficult to keep an eye on people and to know who was a threat. Unlike Kendra, Seth hated reading. Only a few books had every managed to hold his attention for any.period of time. He was too restless. He would much rather be doing something outside. Moving and exploring. He didn't mind doing art, sketching being his favorite. However, that was difficult to do in a crowded, bunny plane. So Seth resigned himself to a long ride half listening to music and ignoring the guy beside him who vaguely smelled like onions.

Corazol, Belize
4:45 pm
Seth stretched his stiff legs as he walked from baggage claim to the exit of the airport. He breathed deeply and relished the feeling of the sun on his skin, even though he knew he would quickly become hot. But, after a long eight and a half hour flight, they were welcome changes. He glanced at the clock hung on the wall and noted the time. He knew that Corazol Belize was about two hours ahead of Alaska. Not that it mattered. Seth was pretty much immune to jet lag at this point. Not necessarily because of the constant travel, though that certainly helped, but because of the erratic and uncertain sleep schedule he had become used to while on any mission. His body had become well trained in sleeping whenever it was told. The only thing that interrupted this was nightmares but he rarely got those while on missions because his mind was too focused on other things. Seth would never admit it but that's one of the reasons he takes on as many missions as they will give him.
Seth's hotel was not far from the airport so he opted to walk there. He had done some research the night before and found a hotel that he rented under the name of Roger Alpine. The Knights would usually rent one for you but Seth preferred to do it himself. To say the hotel he chose was run down would be putting it nicely. The paint was peeling horribly from the siding and it was definitely not on the nicest side of town. The rooms were separated from the outside by a door with A flimsy looking lock, something Seth would secure once he had settled in. The room held a musty scent mixed with the smell of cigarette smoke. There was a bed in the center of the room, covered in some unsettling stains, a side table and lamp beside it, and a desk under the window. The window itself had a pair of thin ratty curtains and crooked blinds. There wasn't much Seth could do about the window, except string up a blanket, which he did. Opening his suitcase and removing his clothes, he opened the hidden compartment. From inside he took out the pieces of his emergency kit that he had stashed. He also opened up the duffle bag he had and pulled out a few other various knick knacks that he thought he might find useful. He then empty the remaining items into the compartment at the bottom of his suitcase. Leaving the duffle bag empty. This was.common practice for Seth in a place like this. He didn't want to leave his unused supplies in a relatively unprotected duffle bag while he was away. Unfortunately this was something Seth had learned the hard way.
In the end Seth was left with: the box of potions, a rope, a small bottle which held a thin dust that immediately soaked into the skin upon contact allowing the victim to be tracked, dark sunglasses (which did indeed have a camera and microphone installed) , a slingshot, some marbles( which as Seth had found were great for distractions), binoculars, and a pair of ear buds. All of these things were packed neatly into his emergency kit, ready for use. He still had his makeshift weapon secured around his neck and two knife secured in a holster and strapped to each of his legs. He had glanced mournfully at his sword but knew that it would only draw in wanted attention. Besides today wasn't about getting into a fight. Today was about exploring Corazol and getting a lay of the land. Still it played to be prepared, hence the knives. Finally, satisfied that he was ready, Seth left the dingy hotel room and began to wander along the streets. Searching for anything that might lead him in the right direction.
Corazol was a quaint little sea side town. You could smell the salt in the air, carried by the cool breeze. Corazol was small in population but it also had its fair amount of tourists. Especially right now with summer just around the corner. The busy streets were lined with street vendors all vying for his attention but Seth was more interest in searching his surroundings. The smells coming from said street vendors were heavenly and caused his stomach to crumble loudly reminding him that not only had he not eaten breakfast this morning, but that he had been walking for over an hour. Technically he could have rented a car, he definitely had the funds for it, and most Knights probably would. However Seth, was not most Knights. He didn't like rental cars for many reasons, one because it was easier to see a car and a license plate then just someone walking in a crowd. Two, every rental car was required to have trackers and such in them to prevent theft which was fine in most cases but problematic for him. That wasn't necessarily a huge risk but it was still one Seth wasn't willing to take. Maybe he had grown paranoid, but he was still alive so there's that. Finally he didn't like rental cars because, in his line of work, it was likely to get beaten up or destroyed. Plus having a car would cause him to miss out on the unique sights, sounds, and smells. That is yet another thing Seth loved about his job. It allowed him to travel the world and to see as well as, experience things he would never get to otherwise.
He had to admit this was a good place to go if you were going to hunt for artifacts and magical creatures and then illegally sell them . The Cerror Ruins were only a few miles away and Seth knew that it was a prime spot for missing person's cases, especially when people wandered off alone. He hoped beyond hope that he wouldn't have to venture there during this trip but, that's definitely where he would go if he was an illegal dealer trying to avoid the Knights as well as any other prying eyes and ears. Plus it wasn't exactly a place you would expect anything big to happen. And besides the Cerror Ruins, their wasn't really anything magical about the place. It honestly seemed kind of ordinary. It was perfect because it tended to be overlooked.
After another thirty minutes had past, the rumbling in Seth's stomach became too overwhelming to ignore and he resolved find a place to eat. He stumbled upon a small hole in the wall restaurant that seemed to be pretty popular amongst the locals. Meaning it was the perfect place for Seth to gather some information.
Even though he worked directly with magical creatures, you'd be surprised how many times he had to interact with regular people. The knowledge gathered from these people was often shaky at best and should definitely be taken with a grain of salt. However, this information often helped him form some semblance of an idea. In his experience Seth had learned that regular people noticed a lot more than even they realize. In addition most people never pass up a chance for a good gossip. And since they didn't know how valuable their information was, they were a lot less stingy with it. The only problem you run into is when they begin to ask questions and wonder why you're asking and who you are. When that happens you become the subject of gossip and word will eventually get back to you enemy. That's why Seth hated small towns. The information might be easier to come by, but it was also easier to get caught. And getting caught meant revealing your mission too soon.
In his line of work , timing was everything. Move in too soon and you risk blowing you cover as well as the entire mission. However, if you don't move in quick enough you'll miss your chance to get your guy. That perfect timing came only when you knew you enemy better than they knew themselves. It came from careful observation and lots of Intel.
Gathering Intel was arguably one of the most boring and tedious parts of Seth's job. It involved a lot of waiting, listening, learning, more waiting, and every once and awhile, a well calculated risk. Luckily, for Seth, his shade walking gave him an edge in this particular area. The ability allowed him to get closer to his enemies so he could overhear plans and put together one of his own. However no ability came without its share of risks. He had gotten a lot better at learning to shroud himself in the shadow to help cover his movements when shade walking but it wasn't an exact science. Not adding enough shadow would reveal his position should he happen to move too quickly however, adding too much shadow could be just as revealing.
Seth's favorite way of gathering Intel was doing exactly what he was doing now. Finding a place to eat while he sat back and listened. Small places like the diner he had just entered were prime spots for gossip. Additionally, they gave him an opening to talk with the locals in a relatively unsuspicious way. People tended to loosen up and talk more freely when both parties were eating. Plus it gave Seth a reason to try all the local dishes. Most of which were pretty good. The smell of home cooked food hit his nose the minute he walked through the door making his mouth water so much it was a wonder he didn't start drooling. He was met at the entrance by a plump, kind looking lady, who appeared to be somewhere in her mid fifties judging by the gray streaking through her black hair. The hair was pulled tightly into a bun at the back of her head, accentuating her full rosy cheeks. He apron stated that he name was Rosa which somehow seemed to fit her perfectly, even thought Seth didn't know her. She gave off a very motherly vibe that instantly made Seth feel at home. With a smile she led Seth to a table and asked him for his drink order. To which he replied with a simple black coffee. Coffee was something Seth had quickly become addicted when he became a Knight. It often helped him through the multiple all nighters he pulled while on a mission. Some minutes later she returned with his coffee, this time ready for his order of food.
" What would you recommend. I'm from out of town so I'm counting on you to hook me up with the good stuff," He said with a wink. Rosa laughed heartily and replied with a thick accent,
" Well only for you I will tell you my personal favorite," She rattled off the name of a dish which sounded completely foreign to Seth but he wasn't going to admit that.
" Ok then, you've talked me into it,.I'll get that," He replied and as Rosa turned to leave he continued, " And could you do me a favor and just wave your little magic wand and take all the fat and calories out for me," Once again Rosa replied with a full bellied laugh.
"You are a funny man. But for you I will have to add extra. Maybe then some of it will stick. You look like you need it," She teased in return before turning a leaving Seth alone once more. He leaned back in his chair, and pulled out his phone. Absent mindedly scrolling through something or another and trying to hide the fact that he was listening to the conversations around him. The diner was loud, making it difficult to discern the voice of only one person. Seth was tempted to use the potion he had that would hone his eyesight and hearing but didn't want to waste it seeing as he only had one. It would be unfortunate to use all of it now at the beginning of the mission when he could need it more later on.
His thoughts were interrupted by Rose who had come with his food. Seth was shocked at how quick the service was seeing as it was rush hour and the small diner was packed to the gills. With the meal she also brought his check. Seth glanced at the check, surprised at the low prices considering the quality of the food.
" Well would you look at that! you must have given me the senior citizen discount!" He paused for the laugh that he had come to expect and then followed up with, "So what are some cool things to do and see while I'm here, anything particularly interesting?"
" Oh well the Cerror Ruins are always a prime spot for tourism but you must be careful to stay on the trails. Too many people wander off and go missing. One of my favorite things is to see the sights at night. The water takes on this stunning color and you can see the star as clear as day. But if you choose that route you best stay away from Devils Tavern. Its on the North end of Corazol, close to the beaches. That place is nothing but trouble, and full of shady characters, especially recently," Rosa said. Rosa was obviously the type of person who talked openly once you got them going. The last part of her sentence caught Seth's attention.
" Really, shady people in this town? Surely not everyone seems so nice,"
" You are young. You haven't seen the darkness of man. People are not always as they seem child," She replied with a sad smile. Seth internally rolled his eyes. If only she knew. " But yes, a week or so ago , this man arrived and came into the diner to eat. He seemed normal enough even if he was a bit rude. However, later that night I saw him outside the Devils Tavern, its on my route home you see, and he was talking in hushed tones with another man. They were standing in the shadows real creepy like. I wasn't really able to hear what they were saying but they didn't sound to happy and they looked like they were planning something, " Rosa finished with a grim look on her face. A look that didn't last long as it was replaced with her usual bright smile.
Seth stored the information away for later, and smiled brightly in return. Acting as if the information had no effect on him at all. Something that had always made Seth a good agent was his poker face. He had a good control over which emotions showed on his face. This was a vast contrast to Kendra who tended to be easily read, like an open book. One with pictures and big letters. A fact that Seth ,and surprisingly Bracken, had teased her relentlessly for.
" Well I won't keep you, thanks for chatting with me . And I will be sure to check out those suggestions," He said, putting an end to the conversation. Seth then dug into his food, nearly moaning at the taste. It was incredibly good. Probably one of the best meals he's had while on a mission. While he ate, he began to sift through the information that he had been given. As always he had to wonder how much of it was true, seeing as people had a tendency to exaggerate. He also couldn't bring himself to believe that Rosa stumbled upon the Devil's Tavern, a place she claimed to despise, on her way home. From what he had seen of Corazol most of the housing was away from that part of the beaches. He wasn't going to completely discredit it but as Rosa had said, people aren't always who they seemed. However, no how much truth there was in the statement, one thing remained true. Tonight he was heading to the Devil's Tavern.

May 22
Corazol, Belize
10:00pm
Seth walked through the darkened streets. Careful to remain close enough to the street lights so as not to unintentionally shade walk. He had gotten a lot better at controlling it but it still happened from time to time. And he couldn't afford giving himself away like that. Just in case there were eyes watching him that he could not see. He had done a pretty good job of keeping on the down low. After lunch he had wandered around the streets a bit more and then headed to the beaches. Particularly the part of the beach close to the Devil's Tavern. The Devil's Tavern had been relatively quiet during the day. The sign had stated that they were opened but it had seemed oddly empty. That was a stark contrast to what he was seeing now.
The tavern now seemed to be packed to the gills with people. And even more of them were standing outside. Even from where he was standing a few feet away he could hear the loud music that played he could see the bright, colorful lights shiny through the windows. As Seth drew closer he saw a problem. Standing at the door was a big burly man wearing dark sunglasses and a tight short sleeved T-shirt that accented his bulging muscles. He was shorter than Seth, most people were, but he made up for it in width. Seth was considered to have pretty wide shoulders and his years of training had hardened his muscles into steel cords. However, none of this reassured him as he stared at a man that looked like he could snap him in half like a twig. He wasn't scared of the man per say. But, he was definitely cautious.
As Seth approached the man he seemed to be doing his own analysis and his stance showed that he didn't feel even the slightest bit intimidated. Which was fair and actually worked to Seth's advantage He had done his best to tone down the darkness of his aura that seemed to put people on edge. Plus the leather jacket he had opted to wear hit the bulk of his muscles, which weren't overly pronounced to begin with, as well as a few... other tools. Aside from the daggers strapped to his legs and the makeshift weapon around his neck, he had three throwing knives cleverly hidden in the folds of his jacket. Unfortunately, much to Seth's displeasure, he had once again leave his sword behind. As weird as it may sound he felt like the sword gave him a better sense of security than the multiple knives strapped to his body. He was dangerous with both weapons and that was disregarding the fact that he was a shadow charmer. So even without the sword, he was hardly helpless. Still, he always felt oddly bare without it. A look settled on the bouncers face. A look that Seth had often seen on bullies when he was a kid. In the end that was all this guy was. A bully. And obviously he saw Seth as his next victim. However, despite all the scenarios Seth was mentally planning for, all the man did was sneer. Seth did his best to pretend he was scared as he entered the building
The air smelled heavily of alcohol and the music, which had been loud before, now seemed to shake the floor. He immediately began to weave his way through the sweaty bodies packing the room searching for signs of anything that was amiss. You would think that a place with this much chaos would make it harder to find anything let alone one person but for Seth it made it easier. If there was one thing that the file full of its limited information had taught Seth was that this guy was far from careless. He wouldn't risk anything that might loosen his tongue. The rest of the people in this place shared no such caution. So find the guy who can walk a straight line and that was probably who Seth was looking for.
He hadn't been searching for more than five minutes when something caught his eyes. His eyes darted to what had caught his attention and and, confirming his previous suspicions to be true, he found Rosa.

So there is part one!!!! Most of this collection will be one shots but seeing as this z alone is over seven thousand words I figured I needed to split them up. I will hopefully be able to post the next part very soon. It needs a few touch ups and changes but.other than that its.practically done. This took SOOO much research its not even funny. I'm pretty sure trip advisor things I'm moving to Belize. Anyway I really hope you all like it, it is probably one of my favorite fics to date so let me know what you think. I apologize for any mistakes you may find. Let me know what adventures you want Seth to have in this book or any other requests you have!!!!!

Why Annabeth is not Hermione 2.0
I’ve been wanting to write this post for a long time, because so many people compare Annabeth Chase to Hermione Granger when they’re really nothing alike. Yes, they’re both the smart, female best friends of the main protagonists, but that doesn’t make their personalities identical. Here are my reasons why.
Annabeth has ADHD and dyslexia and is unfocused at times. Hermione has no disorders we know about and is attentive in class. I understand that Percabeth in high school is a very popular headcanon among the pjo fandom, and Annabeth is indubitably ridiculously clever, but she is NOT going to be raising her hands every second of every day in class and she definitely won’t pass every single subject without even trying. I’d be very surprised if she could stay focused for a full lesson. Honestly, I’d expect her to be labelled as even more of a ‘troubled kid’ than Percy, because Percy has spent years in mortal school while Annabeth hasn’t. It would be Annabeth, not Percy, being the one desperately trying to pay attention but the first to lose focus halfway through. Hermione, as we all know, is the exact opposite, and hates when people disrupt classes.
Hermione is a rule-follower at heart. Annabeth is not. We all remember that time when Hermione Badass Granger kept a woman in a jar for a year, right? However, we also remember the numerous times she’s threatened to report Harry and Ron for breaking the rules- mainly in the earlier books, when their friendship isn’t as developed, but she still acts scandalised whenever rule-breaking is brought up. Hermione will break the rules, because she’s a Gryffindor at heart and she will do anything to protect her friends (trap Rita Skeeter in a jar, report the Firebolt to McGonagall because it might have been cursed), but that doesn’t mean she necessarily enjoys it. Annabeth is a different story altogether. In fanon, it’s usually her who is expected to restrain Percy from doing something stupid (like Hermione and Harry’s canon friendship), but in actual pjo canon, it’s the other way around. Annabeth Chase is smart and clever but she’s also prideful, impulsive, and downright reckless, while Hermione is most definitely not. Annabeth will use any excuse to break the rules and sees no point in regulations if they don’t make any sense, and thinks that authority figures should earn her respect. Hermione basically hero-worships all authority figures unless they’re really bad (eg. Snape and Umbridge). It takes a lot for her to rebel against someone in a higher position than her, and she will willingly give teachers her respect even if they haven’t earned it yet.
Hermione is book smart. Annabeth is street smart. I’m not saying that Annabeth doesn’t like to read, because it’s clearly stated in The Lightning Thief or Sea of Monsters (I can’t remember which) that Annabeth reads so much that Percy forgot that she also had dyslexia. However, in school aus, Annabeth would probably not perform that well on tests and she would absolutely not join spelling bees and win, or have we as a fandom collectively forgotten that in SoM, Percy said that Annabeth could have spent the whole night trying to spell ‘cyclopes’ due to the fact that she kept messing up the letters? And if I hear any reasons like ‘they removed her dyslexia because it didn’t fit their fanfiction, and there’s no need to be so pressed about it’, that’s very fucking ableist, for one, and defeats the whole purpose of Rick Riordan (bless him) making the book’s protagonists have ADHD and dyslexia for his son. Also, it says a lot about fans trying to make Annabeth into Hermione 2.0 when she’s very much not, and then fooling themselves into thinking that the girls’ personalities are carbon copies of each other. Hermione is repeatedly described as the brightest witch of her age- she’s deductive, rational and calculated. She has no problem paying close attention to detail. She spurts out so much information in the books that she has been repeatedly compared to ‘swallowing the textbook’, courtesy of Ron. I can’t even imagine how much she would have to memorise to be compared to that. Annabeth would not be capable of that, nor would she even want to be. She would not see the point in memorising facts, because Annabeth Chase learns things by doing, and Hermione Granger learns things from books. In the Philosopher’s Stone, Hermione is distraught at their first flying lesson because she can’t learn it from a book first. You know who wouldn’t be? Hands-on, street smart, capable Annabeth.
Annabeth values knowledge more than Hermione does. Some of you may not understand why this is, but Annabeth is a daughter of Athena and Hermione is a Gryffindor. They have very different learning strategies and if they ever met, they’d be nothing alike and probably wouldn’t even see eye to eye. Hermione canonically scoffs at ‘books and cleverness!’ both in the movies and the books of the Philosopher’s Stone. Hermione is Sorted into Gryffindor because she values bravery over everything else- even knowledge. Annabeth has always put knowledge first. That’s not to say that Annabeth Who-Took-A-Knife-For-Percy Chase isn’t brave, but she values knowledge above else and she’s willing to fight dirty to get it (as is Hermione, but that’s beside the point). It’s understandable that Annabeth would put knowledge above bravery, because of her parentage. Hermione’s choice is also understandable, given the circumstances, and it’s noteworthy that she repeatedly chooses friendship over cleverness in the series just because she knows its importance. Just to reiterate: the girls are different people. Don’t put them as madly competing in your Hogwarts x Camp Half-Blood fanfictions. Do you honestly think Annabeth would compete with Hermione for the best grades in History of Magic, or that Hermione would ever try her hand at sword-fighting and archery? I don’t think so. This might seem like it’s contrasting my point, but Annabeth probably isn’t going to be interested in most of the lessons while they’re taking notes in a classroom without any hands-on work. She doesn’t function like that. She would do well in Charms or Transfiguration and positively shine in Quidditch, not History of Magic or Muggle Studies or Divination. She values knowledge she deems useful, and the only way for knowledge to be deemed useful by her standards is if she used what she’s learnt in practical spells and not note-taking.
Hermione has flexible moral principles. Annabeth’s are set in stone. Hermione is a very complex character. She repeatedly chastises Harry and Ron for breaking school rules on a daily basis, but it was her idea to go through with the Polyjuice Potion in CoS, her decision to keep Rita Skeeter in a jar, her decision to use a Time-Turner to get to all her classes on time. (Well, she also had to appeal to Cornelius Fudge through McGonagall, but it was her idea.) Hermione’s moral code is flexible, to say the least. She won’t break it for mundane days, but will for special occasions, and that’s because she knows that desperate times call for desperate measures. None of her moral code is written in stone. There is always a point where she justifies her behaviour by decreeing that the situation needs it. There is no line that she isn’t willing to cross depending on how bad the situation is. Hermione has a justifiable reason for breaking rules, and though she doesn’t enjoy it, like I said earlier, she will do it of her own accord if the situation calls for it. She has no point where she says to herself, ‘Okay, this is one rule that I’m not going to break no matter what.’ This girl, this brilliant, ruthless girl, is willing to cross every single line if she absolutely must, and that is why she is not at all like Annabeth Chase. Annabeth Chase, whose principles are set in stone. Annabeth Chase, who is prideful and stubborn and who does not compromise her values no matter what. Annabeth is not ruthless; Annabeth is not cruel. She is the embodiment of- not exactly goodness, but fairness and equality. She gives everyone what they deserve. She literally told a Sphinx off for not giving riddles that make you think, but instead asking questions that you just need a certain amount of knowledge of facts to answer. Let that sink in, because it’s the most perfect example I have. Hermione Granger would have answered them quick as a flash and moved on, because it’s an easy way out, she knows all the answers anyway, and she’d probably treat the Sphinx like an authority figure whose test she has to pass, not change. Annabeth Chase, instead, gets offended and demands riddles that make you think because she will not compromise her principles for anyone or anything, and places so much faith in her intelligence (which is why she values it so much) that even if the questions will be harder, she thinks that it’s downright insulting that they aren’t already. She takes it as an insult to her intelligence. Hermione is flexible; Annabeth is hard as stone.
Annabeth has the makings of a hero; Hermione has the makings of a villain. Sure, Hermione started SPEW and cares for the welfare of creatures and is portrayed as sensitive time and time again, but if she believes that what she is doing is right, she will use wrong methods to get to her goal. After all, when the greater good is at stake, who wouldn’t use less morally superior methods to get to it faster? What’s the murder of a few people who deserved it- maybe Bellatrix or Umbridge- when a greater number of lives can be saved? Hermione is unnervingly logical and although she is sensitive, she is not weak. She might feel pity for Sirius’s experience in Azkaban, because he’s ‘good’, in her mind, but would she feel for Bellatrix, who ‘deserved’ it? And of course Bellatrix did deserve it, but Hermione conveniently ignores that they went through the same experience because only Sirius deserves her pity, because he’s good. Hermione wouldn’t sacrifice Sirius for the greater good, but she would sacrifice Bellatrix, and Annabeth wouldn’t, because as I’ve said, Annabeth does not have a flexible moral code. Annabeth would not stand by and sacrifice Bellatrix, because she is still a person in Annabeth’s eyes, but Hermione would, because there is no line she wouldn’t cross. As long as Hermione thinks that what she’s doing is right, she would condone any action to achieve her goal. I think we all know enough about history to know that that is terrifying as fuck. Hermione, under different circumstances, could be a villain; Annabeth would be the hero and do the right thing no matter what.
These two girls are so inherently, intrinsically different that I have trouble wondering why anyone would think that they were anything alike just because they’re smart and friends with the protagonist. There are probably more points, but I’m tired and it’s a school day and I can’t think of anything more to add on. Anyway, thanks for reading this and I hope nobody makes the stupid, stupid mistake of saying that they are in any way similar after reading this, because I could honestly relate Annabeth more to Ron than I could to Hermione.

Let’s talk about AC: Odyssey
Overall, the game was a 7/10. I liked it, primarily because it’s shiny new content and because i get to play as a woman for the whole game (and Kassandra hnngggnng) but there were some issues which, for me, undercut the emotion of the whole thing, especially the ending.
spoilers and bitching below, proceed at your own risk
An ADHD dream and nightmare
in general, the way i played Black Flag, Origins, and Odyssey was tantamount to “Okay, gotta go to - squirrel!”
Now, that problem (not really much of a problem but y’know) starts with me. I have ADHD, so I’m already prone to being unfocused in my game play. But it doesn’t help that the map is littered with side missions, collectibles, and shiny things.
That, on it’s own, is not much of an issue. So it’s a bloated game; that just means there’s more to love. and I do love this game. however, the overwhelming amount of side missions and the fact that you’re practically required to play them in order to level up enough, means that the game loses its focus.
in Black Flag, this was somewhat remedied by the fact you’re never really under-leveled, so much as under-prepared. In Origins, it was offset by the intensely emotional story and clear motivations. In Odyssey, neither of those things were present.
Breaking the game
Throughout its life as a series, Assassin’s Creed has done something few other games have done: justified the fact that it’s a video game. We, the player, play as Desmond/Layla/whomever, who is playing through the memories of the historical character. The Animus can essentially take a puzzle and build the edges and group the pieces by color, but it still needs a human to put the pieces in place. the puzzle - the memory - itself cannot be changed.
Now, in Odyssey, there is no more justification. Yes, I’m talking about the choice mechanic.
This aspect of the game just... breaks everything we know about the series. the way the animus works. the way we play the game. the lore went from decently put together to flat out incoherent.
I love Kassandra. and I love that she’s the canon character. but if female leads for some reason come at the cost of consistent story-telling, i’ll take the consistent lore.
Way too big
traveling takes for-fucking-ever. Look, Ubisoft, I know people loved the naval portions of your games. but that’s not an excuse to make everything fucking HUGE and spread out over a dozen islands. If you must have such a huge game, give us fast travel to an island right away. restrict it however else you like, but for FUCKS SAKE.
Clash of the Titans (and the original premise for this series)
from AC1 to AC: Black Flag, each game has been defined by its historical setting. It was the Crusade Game, the Renaissance Game, the Victorian Game...
Origins began to lay the framework for a more mythology-based portion of the series.
Well, Origins walked so that Odyssey could fly by it on a motorcycle. Throughout the game, i wasn’t about the historical figures i would meet. I was wondering where and how the mythology would be making an appearance.
On its own, this is not a bad thing. It also makes sense, given that Ubisoft seems to be shifting to the Isu for plot in the wake of Juno’s death.
It is, however, still rather jarring. It also doesn’t look like we’ll be getting more of the historical thing because AC: Ragnorak is looking like the next game.
I love mythology as much as the next person, but...I don’t even know what to say.
The Ending
the aforementioned lack of focus and emotional intensity led to a...lackluster ending. I went for the best ending where Kassandra saves Alexios and the family is reunited.
Alexios’s heel-face turn seemed so sudden. Like he’s furious up until he touches Leonidas’s spear, and he suddenly sees the light? I’m not saying that it can’t happen, but in a game brimming with mythology and magic, this was the thing that strained my suspension of disbelief.
And this was right after Kleon shot him in the back, too. but is it ever brought up? is his faith in the cult shaken by the fact that one of his “family” just tried to kill him? does Kassandra use it as evidence that the cult is using him?
nope. not once. not even a little bit.
And these are just some nitpicks, but for me, both Alexios’s subpar voice acting and Kassandra’s quiver disappearing (idk if that was a common thing or just my game) undercut the emotion of the scene.
cutscenes are not the time for errors like this, people!
too short
As much as I complain about a bloated game, the main storyline was way too short. If you play only the main story line, you’ll probably have uncovered about half the map. maybe less. Why do i care about the map? I don’t. But i do care about an underdeveloped story.
Maybe there was more plot that ended up on the cutting room floor, but ultimately, it doesn’t matter whether the game was slashed to ribbons or wasn’t there in the first place. We got a game that was too short.
The lack of length also exacerbates the tone problem. Had we had a longer story with more Deimos/PC interaction where cracks appear in Deimos’s armor, and he maybe even does something uncharacteristically charitable (out of more than pure shock), i could then buy his behavior on Taygetos as a last-ditch effort to maintain his self image in the face of his shifting world view.
If we’d had cutscenes like Syndicate where we could see a few moments from Alexios’s perspective, I could understand how that world view shifts and how the cult treats him.
but instead, we get an exponential graph of Alexios’s development. and it’s a damn shame.
Loss of Identity
for every AC game, there’s a million video essays laying out the problems with it. And in every one of those essays, there’s a line to the effect of “this game doesn’t feel like an Assassin’s Creed game.”
Previously, i was always of the school of thought that were was no “feel” of an AC game. the nature of the games is to change, in big ways and small ways, between games. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
But now, if you had me play this game and then AC1 and told me they were in the same series, i would never fucking believe you. The already thin common threads between games has been completely broken, even more so by going back in time. Origins had a similar problem, but it at least referenced the rest of the series with the hidden blade and the establishment of the Assassin Order. the only things “Assassin’s Creed” about Odyssey are the Isu and the title.
Other Nitpicks
Layla does not get out of the Animus nearly enough. I know most people hate the modern day line, but i like the break from all the historical action.
not calling Deimos Alexios/Kassandra in the subtitles. I know it was probably easier on the devs but just imagine the feels if the name changed when Deimos was being more vulnerable/letting his compassion show.
Kassandra can full-on see Atlantis and a Sphinx and still be amazed by every mythological creature that crosses her path.
people move way too much in dialogue cutscenes
animation and cgi are becoming so real that it’s creepy again
i appreciate the move to Actual Eagle’s Vision, but leave it in these games. I don’t want to get to the middle ages and be seeing out of a raven within a century of Atair’s Color Coding Eagle Vision. That’s not how evolution works.
While cool, the introduction of literally magical armor and weapons further proves that this isn’t a historical series anymore.
There is barely a stealth mechanic in this game, and when it’s used, it’s just used to pick people off before we’re noticed, not to avoid being noticed.
in a world where there are mercenaries and those mercenaries have to kill each other either for money or just to move up in rankings, mercenaries killing each other should not be illegal. if i try to fight one more mercenary and end up getting killed by the swarm of soldiers that just pony up out of no where, i swear to God...
why are soldiers acting as cops anyway doesn’t Athens have real, actual cops or equivalent
I think Ubisoft finally remembered they were rated M in Origins and Odyssey but it honestly just makes it harder to play around my parents
That’s as much as i can think of off the top of my head if i can think of more i’ll add it

ahhhh colours!! #2E294E #7C7C7C #52DEE5?
i love this color palette so much! definitely pirate vibes, although how could i write anything less haha. i had fun coming up with a crew for this, thank you!
[send me three hex codes and i’ll write something for them!]
Tumblr media
They were nearing the end of the world and the sky was grayer than the floors of any city she’d torn down, but Danu had her crew and her sword, so she knew she’d be fine. She stood at the edge of their ship, where the magical barrier, invisible if not for a mother-of-pearl sheen, stretched upwards from the wooden dock and into the sky. When her clumsy first mate tripped over their own feet, it was the barrier that kept them from tumbling over the sharp edge and into the merciless waves beneath them. They’d always complained to Danu that she needed to add a visible railing, but she preferred the adrenaline rush that swept through one's body when they thought they would fall, only to hit the invisible wall like it was a glass window and they, a bird.
The water splashed up against the wall and receded down its side, leaving a trail of droplets that began to evaporate. Danu turned away and found herself face to face with the devil themself- Seith glanced over her shoulder at the ocean wearily, then offered her a half-hearted grin. There was little humor behind it, and it came off as more of a grimace. “Good day to fall off the edge of the world, isn’t it?”
“There will be no falling,” Danu assured them. Her hand had slipped to her sword by reflex, but now she let it fall to her side and lay lax, knowing that if there was one person in the world she didn’t need to fight, it was Seith. There had only ever been one exception, and she’d been mind-controlled at the time, so they tended to overlook it, unless Seith wanted the upper hand in an argument.
“Slip,” Seith said instead, although the euphemism was worse than “falling,” in Danu’s mind. “Trip. Tilt. Dangle. Sink. Toss ourselves off and hope the ship grows wings.”
Danu rolled her eyes. “No falling,” she said again. She crossed her arms. “Shouldn’t you trust me by now?”
“I will never trust you,” they promised. They both knew it was a lie, but she didn’t cut them off, and instead waited patiently for the long tirade they were about to go on. Like clockwork, they took a deep breath and began to ramble. “You’ve nearly gotten me killed at least a hundred times. There was that time in Pirus, with the man-eating butterflies, or when you broke into the Museum of Glass in Charvetica, and the sphinx guarding the one section tried to chew on my legs. Remember when you sacrificed me to the volcano while we were in the Hashait Islands?”
“Good times,” Danu said, and she couldn’t help but laugh at their disgusted expression. The ocean roared in her ears, and she linked her arm through theirs, guiding them to where the crew members had gathered at the forecastle deck. Each person there, staring out at the ghastly grey water, was a member of her family, and she theirs. They had a hundred stories between them. Advara had been a guard who’d let Danu slip past her and, after being fired, and slunk back to the ship and demanded they let her join them. Gigi was once the primadonna daughter of a rich noble before she refused an arranged marriage and ran off, surviving a month before she heard of a band of misfits who’d take her in. George and Jane were twins that had never known how to use their magic before Seith offered to teach them, and they finally learned how to stop blowing things up. Or rather, blow things up in a more controlled manner.
Advara turned her attention to Danu and Seith as they joined them. “What’s our plan?” she asked briskly. Her eyes were yellow and owl-shaped. She’d used them to spot treasures at the bottom of the ocean floor before, but she was also perceptive enough to notice when Seith was injured. They tended to be quiet about their wounds, and Advara kept them from bleeding out. “If we don’t have one I’d like to know now.”
“If we don’t have a plan I’m jumping ship and swimming away,” Gigi said. She stuck her nose up haughtily, her cheeks powdered with a dark purple that showed on her tanned skin, eyelashes covered in speckles that were crafted from shards of stars. Jane had won her those stars fair and square- a game of poker years ago. “A cute mermaid will find me and bring me to shore and we’ll fall in love while the rest of you slide into the abyss.”
“You’d never ruin your makeup,” Jane told her. Her crush on Gigi was obvious to everyone except them. Even a Red Queen’s soldier had once told them they were a cute couple, during the midst of a fight. George had never laughed like that before, certainly not as hard, until Jane told Seith to take the barrier down so she could toss him overboard.
“We aren’t sliding off the edge of the ocean and into the abyss,” Danu said. “We’ll slide over it.”
Seith turned to her, aghast. “I don’t have that kind of magic!” they said, giving her a scandalized expression. “I can’t just make us float over nothingness, Dan, I’m not a god.”
“No,” Danu said, giving them a reassuring smile. She swept a hand through her hair- even with Seith’s barrier against the elements, it was always wet, but she tended to slick back the short cut. It was one of her lovely quirks. The missing eyes, the slicked-back hair, the way she always smelled the seas salt. They all added together and made a fine pirate, if she did say so herself. “But that’s another one of my secrets: I am.”
Each of her crew mates stared at her, and then Gigi let out a sharp laugh, breaking the silence. “I knew it!” she said. She flipped her hair back and looked smugly at Jane, who sighed. “I told you all I saw her bleed gold once, and none of you believed me.”
“Is this why you flirt with everyone?” George asked. He peered at her over his half-moon glasses. Danu might have been as old as the ocean beneath them, but it was George who looked it. His personality matched; he was the smartest of them all, always suggesting they steal books or scholarly artifacts. “I hear that’s a trait of gods.”
“That’s why you meddle with everything,” Jane realized. “Gods do that too.”  She hid a smile with her hand.
“And why you have no care for your own safety,” Seith said. They rolled their eyes. “Oh my go- I can’t handle this right now. Show me godly magic though, after I finish brooding.” They turned and marched dramatically down the stairs.
Danu watched them go with a faint fondness. “They’ll be back,” she said, smiling. “Who’d want to miss seeing a god manipulation the ocean for one small, dingy ship?” The ship was more than a dingy one, though. It was the one she and Seith had stolen together all those years ago, the one that had survived canons, dragons, fires, storms, and every other enemy that came with being theirs. It was home.
Advara punched Danu’s shoulder lightly. “The world really is ending, huh,” she said. It wasn’t a question- they’d all heard the prophecies. Oracles had been everywhere they went, spewing poetry about how the sky would fall into the ocean and the ocean would drain off the edge of the planet, like a melting painting. A chosen one, out there somewhere, who’d have to rise to the challenge and defeat the mother of the big five gods. Danu shivered to think of her mother, or the chosen one. Whoever they were, they were in for a grim future. Her crew would be left out of it, though. She’d rather the world end then they have to tear themselves apart to save it. Advara looked at her, tilting her head. “So tell us, oh powerful goddess, why aren’t you off causing chaos in the heavens?”
Danu grinned and met her eyes. “So I can be here with you guys, causing chaos on the seas and in the streets.”
Gigi whooped and threw her arm over Danu’s shoulder. “Let’s go find out what’s beyond the edge of the world,” she said. “This is almost better than mermaid romance.” And they laughed and traded stories, and when Seith finally returned from brooding, she showed them all how to whisper to the waves and taught them to build a bridge across the sky, so they could sail right over the end of the world and into something beyond it.

A rose in London - Sherlock Holmes
Tumblr media
I’m struggling to find some pics and gifs for certain scenes
Chapter 14 - Everyone together again
Sherlock sat in a chair with his violin, plucking it mindlessly. The room you were in was shabby, but it would do. No one knew where either of you were and at least you had a roof over your heads. You were staying in the room above a tavern, the one where Sherlock came for a boxing match. You were sitting across from Sherlock as he let his mind go over the facts of the case. The wall behind him was scribbled in notes. Names, dates, places.
You watched him quietly.
Suddenly he dropped the violin and pinched the bridge of his nose. You got up and hurried to his side, wrapping an arm around his shoulders and placing the other firmly on his arm. You watched as he picked up his pipe and lit it. Sherlock welcomed your embrace as he sat back and let his mind focus once more.
You had no idea what was running through his mind, but you knew he would tell you once he figured things out.
His eyes shot open when he remembered something.
Sherlock shot up out of his chair and began to collect things in the room. You watched him rush around and grab items. You took to sitting in his chair as he did his thing, not once saying anything to you.
He drew on the floorboards, opened up the little black book he had taken from when you went to investigate Rotheram's death, took out some chunks of bone he had also taken from that little room. He lit candles within the diagram he had drawn and sat in the centre of it, taking is dagger.
"Sherlock?" You asked softly.
"Blow out the other candles." He told you.
Trusting him, despite how weird this was becoming, you did as he said and walked around the room, blowing out the other lights. All that could be seen was Sherlock sitting on the floor with his candle and dagger. The blade glinted amongst the light the flame provided. You took to crouching beside the diagram, not taking your eyes off of him.
Sherlock took a big swig from the bottle he had beside him. He was sweating profusely.
The detective cut his hand and let his blood drip over the melted wax on the floor. He then placed his hand face down on the book.
Whatever this ritual was for it was making you uncomfortable.
You had no idea was going through his mind. You dared not disturb him, but your concern was growing by the minute. It became too much when he passed out.
You gasped and hurried over, cradling him in your arms. You used all your strength to pull him onto the bed before seeing to the wound on his hand. You dared not look at the symbols on the floor as you soaked a cloth and dabbed his head with it. Sherlock could be too much sometimes and you worried for his health, even if answers did come to him doing such a thing.
When you were happy with Sherlock's condition, you relaxed on the bed beside him, running a hand through your messy hair. You looked at the man beside you and let his features settle in your mind.
By God you loved this man.
You never thought you could become so attached to someone in a matter of days, but it seemed to be true. Sherlock had made an impression on you and you couldn't rid yourself of this feeling.
Eventually you passed out, a knock on the door disturbing your slumber. Daylight filled the room now, meaning you managed to sleep a few hours last night.  You groaned in annoyance, but also confusion. No one knew you were here and you couldn't think of who would come looking.
Unless...
You were quiet as you approached the door and grabbed the dagger Sherlock used last night. You took a hold of the door knob and counted to three under your breath. You pulled the door open and almost screamed when you saw John and Irene standing there. You pulled them into the room and dropped the dagger.
"What are you doing here? You should be resting!" You scolded, whispering loudly. You took note of his arm in a sling. Joh nwas relying much more on his cane now than he did before.
"What are you going to do? Send me back?" He asked, amused.
"This is not funny. You could have died."
"As could have you." He warned.
John grabbed a chair and moved it to the centre of the room, sitting down and looking at Sherlock who remained passed out. You gave a sigh and turned around to make tea.
Irene moved over to the bed and sat on the edge of it. She looked concerned as she checked him over, but seemed happy when she didn't sense a fever.
"I'm glad to see you're alright, Miss Adler." You said, watching he fuss over Sherlock a little.
"As am I about you." She turned to smile over at you. Sherlock would be glad to know she was safe, but you don't know how he would feel about the fact she hadn't left London.
"You look like you've been busy." John said, looking at all chalk on the floor and notes on the wall.
"Sherlock's doing."
As if hearing his name, the man in question woke up, startled. You both turned to face him.
"Good morning." Irene said softly. "Now, we need to work." She got up off the bed.
"Familiar artwork." John pointed out to him. "You look gorgeous." John teased Sherlock as the latter sat up, feeling rather stiff.
Irene came and stood beside you, taking the cup you offered to her.
"Somehow I knew you wouldn't leave." Sherlock said, smiling at Irene.
Irene didn't answer to that. but knelt down and picked up a paper instead. She held it up so Sherlock could read the headline.
SHERLOCK HOLMES WANTED
"You made the front page." She said seriously.
"Only a name and no picture."
"So, it looks like you'll be needing to work outside the law now and that#s my expertise."
"I feel safer already."
John got up slowly from his chair.
"You seem to be making a rapid recovery." Sherlock turned to him.
"Yes. Took the shrapnel out myself." John went to sit with Sherlock on the bed. "Mary said I had a lousy doctor." The pair of them looked at each other and then Sherlock looked at you. You shrugged with a smile making John chuckle softly.
"Well I'm... so very glad... that you're, um... well... with us." Sherlock said, pausing between words as if that sentence hadn't come to him immediately.
You and Irene shared a look of amusement.
Sherlock got up and organised himself, you all took a seat and waited for him. You caught the other two up on the events that happened from the hospital and last night while you waited.
"Now you're sitting comfortably." Sherlock, wearing only his undershirt, trousers and braces, and his shoes, turned to the three of you. "I shall begin." He clapped his hands once. "My initial approach was far too narrow. When Blackwood invited me to Pentonville prison he suggested I widened my gaze and at minimum I have done just that. In fact I may have reconciled thousands of years of theory logical disparity, but that's for another time. Blackwood's method is based on a mystic logical system that's been employed by the Temple of the Four Orders for centuries. To fully understand the system to get inside it, I reenacted the ceremony we interrupted. With a few enhances of my own."
He was referring to when he first caught Blackwood with John.
"My journey took me somewhat further down the rabbit hole than I intended, and though I dirtied my fluffy white tail, I have emerged. Enlightened." He circled around the three of you. "The fraternity silently controlling empire share a leaf with the pharaohs, kings and emperors of old: that the sphinx was a door to another dimension. A gateway to unimaginable power. It's made up of four parts: the foot of a lion, the tail of an ox, the wings of an eagle and the head of a man." Sherlock pointed to each part with his cane on a diagram he had drawn. "In Sir Thomas' secret chamber I found the bone of an ox, tooth of a lion, feather of an eagle and the hair of a man."
You remembered him picking up items of the table before Clark came back with jasmine bath salt.
"Map." Sherlock pointed to the one by John's feet. John picked it up and opened it on the floor. "The points of the star represent the five murdered girls, but the cross is what we're now interested in." You, along with Irene and John, knelt down to look at the map, placing candles on it to keep it open. "It's a widely held belief that within the architecture of the great cities are coded references to the system." Sherlock knelt down opposite you all.
"Since he rose from the grave, Blackwood has killed three men. Each murder was located in a location that has a direct connection to the temple, therefore, the system. Reordon, ginger midget, represents man. Found his body here." He pointed to where the graveyard was located.
"Sir Thomas, master of the temple, wore the ox ring. He died here." He pointed to the headquarters where he lived.
"Standish, Ambassador to America, where the eagle has been the national emblem for over a hundred years. Headquarters of the Four Orders, where he died is here. He pointed to it on the map, further proving the design of the diagram on the map.
"The correspondent of the stardom will show us the location of Blackwood's final act on the map."
"So we have man, the ox, eagle.... Only the lion remaining." John pointed out.
"Right here." Sherlock pointed to it on the map.
"Parliament." You looked at him.
The sounds of shouting came from downstairs. You all got to your feet and followed Sherlock. He opened a hatch in the corner of the room, the footsteps outside getting louder.
"Ladies first."
Irene went first, you followed. John climbed in, Sherlock gave him a page before he climbed all the way down.
"Follow these instructions." He told John. "And look after Y/N for me." John tried to ask why he wasn't coming too, but Sherlock pushed his head down and closed the hatch.
Lestrade came in with his men.
Sherlock turned around and let himself be arrested.

Tarot 101~
Major Arcana I-X
Remember to keep note of how you feel about the cards (i.e. if you like them or not).
Please only scroll down once you’ve done this!
Tumblr media
Major Arcana I – The Magician
~You’ve jumped through, and you’ve landed in another realm. In front of you is a table.~
If you look closely, the four suits are on the table (wands, cups, swords, and pentacles).
You have everything you need to succeed in life right in front of you. All you have to do is pick up the tools.
This is the card of focus.
Do not waste your energy on meaningless things, like jealousy… Focus your energy. Take the tools. Move on.
~Once you’ve got your focus, you move to the next realm… Which you can do, now, since you have all the tools you need.~
Major Arcana II – The High Priestess
(she’s a couple with the magician btw)
This is the card of knowledge, both classical knowledge and spirituality.
Notice all the the symbolism around her:
The moon (Wicca)
The crescent (Islam)
The cross (Christianity)
The Torah (Judaism)
The headdress (Egyptian mythology)
And, one that most people will gloss over… The embroidery on the veil behind her is shaped in the Kabbalah’s tree of life… As are the two columns on each side of her. (not super important rn, this isn’t a class on Kabbalah ha)
Now, the other thing that is super important to notice… She doesn’t seem to be in movement, is she? She is still – almost statuesque.
This is also the card of stillness.
She asks us to stop spiraling, to go still and to collect knowledge before acting and reacting. It is not easy. At all. But once we do this? Then we can keep growing.
She also requires us to go inside… And when we start looking, we realize how little there is outside. The way we see the world is just that, the way WE see the world. It’s all projection. If we were completely objective, there would be no pain. Things would just… BE. We are human, though, and whilst we can never be the High Priestess, we can try and emulate her more – to find the balance.
Major Arcana III – The Empress
The Mother.
She can be nurturing, giving… But she can also be choking, smothering.
Just like how cushions can be comfortable, they can be too soft and suffocate you. Depending on your question, you might want to try and relax more, or notice that you’ve relaxed too much.
You must find the balance between her and her husband…
Tumblr media
Major Arcana IV – The Emperor
The Father.
Look at his throne, and how different it is from the Empress’ cushions. His is cold, rigid, uncomfortable.
He is the representation of discipline, making decisions, and logic. This is not a bad card, despite what most people see it to be. Just like the Empress’ comfort, in small doses, this is necessary to life. Too much of it, and we suffer.
ONE IS NOT BETTER THAN THE OTHER.
You need both in order to live a fulfilling life. You must develop the one that is harder for you – balance is key.
Major Arcana V – The Hierophant
(N.B. ALL 5 CARDS ARE TRICKY!!!! I will post about numerology at the end... also, hierophant means some kind of priest/pope~)
Notice the main character, who holds power and truth. Notice now, that there are two monks kneeling before him. Are they listening to the authority? Or looking at the keys on his throne and preparing to take them and leave to listen to their own voice?
…Or are you the Hierophant himself, believing that you are always right?
Usually, Tarot asks for introspection, to look within yourself for answers, but this is the one card that screams: “look outside. Look at your environment.”
I know that the different interpretations are tricky, but it all depends on your questions when you finally get to spreads. When we get there at the end of this course, you can definitely ask questions as to what the HECK he means.
Major Arcana VI – The Lovers
Whilst the man is admiring the woman’s body (passion, also represented by the tree on fire behind him), she is looking up at the heavens. ~Only through your “feminine” (your open, intuitive side) can you achieve ascension.
SUPER IMPORTANT NOTE
Pixie and Waite did not believe in the binary social coding of gender as is still perpetuated in most Western societies. They believed that, as we in the universe are all made of the same things, and therefore are one, there was no gender. However, they represented different facets of humanity by the binary, female and male, yin and yang, etc.
This is the inner marriage card.
You have to access ALL of these parts of you to move on in life, to grow.
P.S. if you pick this card in any spread, you should immediately pick out two other cards and ask “which two parts of me aren’t getting along?”
Tumblr media
Major Arcana VII – The Chariot
Pay attention to this card. Really look at it. What’s wrong with this picture?
The “chariot” doesn’t seem to be moving, does it? There are no reins, no wheels, and it seems to be made of a block of concrete. The sphinxes also seem to be pointed in two different directions.
This is the card of will, of alignment.
No matter how difficult, you CAN make that chariot move. Align all the parts of you (sphinxes represent the “male” and “female” again), and WILL the chariot into moving.
If there’s a will, there’s a way – but, if you fall out of alignment, you will stay stagnant.
Major Arcana VIII – Strength
Look at the woman and the lion. Whilst lions are traditionally represented as strength….. who really seems to be in control here?
She is. Strength does NOT equal force.
This is the card of “gentle” strength.
The lion has also traditionally been used to represent one’s Shadow, and gentle strength is the only way you can learn what it is and how to overcome it. If you attack the parts of yourself that you hate, your Shadow only becomes stronger. TAME your Shadow, just how she is taming the lion.
Only then can you become Master of your path.
Major Arcana IX – The Hermit
What’s different about this one?
It’s all grey – very different from the previous cards.
Alone (but not lonely) stands this man on top of a mountain (knowledge). He hold a stick, which represents endurance, patience, and resilience.
The is the card of looking inside oneself.
The issue that you are facing has nothing to do with the outside, with your environment. You have a wound, and you must find it.
Only then can you heal and see with more clarity and objectivity what is actually going on outside.
Tumblr media
Major Arcana X – Wheel of Fortune
Disclaimer: one of the hardest cards in the deck to undedrstand, so please don’t feel bad if you don’t really get it. This is tarot ~101~ after all.
Imagine this wheel being your life. This wheel, just like life, keeps turning, no matter what you try and do. You have no choice.
Or do you?
If you stand on the outside, it can, and will, crush you. But, you can make the conscious decision to stand on the inside of the wheel – and at the very center, is stillness.
This is the card of reactions.
When you are on the outside, you react to everything. You get hurt easily, and you blame the wheel.
But you can control how you react – not everything has to hurt as much. Step inside the wheel, and you will see that what’s on the outside doesn’t really matter.
If you have a deck on hand, I would suggest doing your first pull with the first eleven (11) cards – ask the cards what you should be paying attention to as you shuffle, and pull. If it’s reversed, flip it back upright for now: again, this is Tarot 101.

We Are Stepping Into New Territory
We Are Stepping Into New Territory
By Hare in the Moon Astrology
Wednesday August 21 2019
“Before you can hear, much less follow, the voice of your soul, you have to win back your body. You have to go on a pilgrimage beneath the skin.” Meggan Watterson
A heads up! Something big this way comes……whether you were aware of it or not, you are being stalked by the numinous and inducted into the Mysteries as one after the other this week, Mars, Venus and the Sun cross from fiery Leo into grounded Virgo, from the alchemical element of Fire to Earth. At the Virgo Super New Moon on August 31st, the Moon and Mercury will complete this gathering stellium with no fewer than 13 planets and points in Earth signs.
It’s rare for all the inner planets to be in the same sign together-a clear message that we are stepping into new territory. This is another huge stairstep in the physical embodiment process that will culminate at the epochal January 12 2020 Sun/Ceres/ Arawn/Pluto/Saturn/Mercury/Chariklo Conjunction in Capricorn.
Esoterically in the hidden wisdom, the inner planets crossing the Sphinx cusp from Leo to Virgo open a gateway to a re-alignment, to the reunification of separated parts- male/female, higher/lower, body/heart/mind – into integrated consciousness.
Virgo is the sign of emotional wisdom and inner alignment-your sanctuary, home and base camp where at all times independent of circumstances and independent of thoughts and emotions, there is a world of deeper feeling available to you- a sense of expansiveness, peace and being fully alive.
The Fixed Star Regulus -symbolising Archangel Raphael as the Watcher of the North- sits on the cusp of Leo-Virgo, literally at the heart of the Sphinx. Regulus is said to hold the keys to the Hall of Records, speculated to be buried symbolically under the Sphinx.
The Sphinx Cusp is a powerful combination of Power-Leo-and Presence-Virgo. This week as you cross this resonant threshold with the inner planets, feel yourself shift on to the 2nd Ray of Love/Wisdom and into the Mysteries-riddles full of paradox, throwing out a challenge to express your essential self by standing in the truth of your High Heart.
The Chandra Symbol for Regulus Leo 30: A Woman sprinkling Rose Water in the Four Corners of a Room.  “Doing inner work in an outer world. Precipitating limitless spirit into dense matter. Working within higher laws. Tapping the source spring of existence. You are powerfully motivated to extend the inner brightness into absolutely every facet of existence. So purposeful that you push yourself over every edge to achieve astounding things. You specialise in turnarounds, great shifts–personally and collectively. A vision burns through. “
New! This is definitely not a rehearsal! In September, Saturn turns forward conjunct the Karmic South Node of Fate opposite Sirius. The Lord of Time and Karma will not change direction again in Capricorn until 2048 so this is a not- to -be -repeated opportunity to build a permanent platform for growth during the 11 weeks remaining before the birth contractions of the Saturn/Pluto Conjunction in January 2020. This week marks the start of what will become in September a relentless embodiment process. Spiritual rubber will meet reality road.

Hello once again. That sphinx writing was just top tier amazing. I have another if you don't mind of course. This one's a bit different though. I'm think Vandal savage immortal type. Like Mcs been alive for a very long time do to some mystic event or something but she's not you know trying to take over the world. Shes just like really crazy intelligent and really badass i guess, knowing like a couple dozen languages and easily how to fight supernaturals. But thats all up to you of course.
EEE! Thank you! I’m so happy you’re enjoying my writing!
General Headcanons
-MC knew the place was a Haven (ha) for supernatural people. MC purposely picked Havenfall because of it so she knew that there was a large number of supernatural people. She knew from like the get-go.
-MC was rich, but ran into Code Black a while back and lost like most of it because they were convinced it was illegal money. She proved it wasn’t, but she didn’t bother getting all of the money back because she figured it was a pain in her ass. However, Code Black is now very wary of MC and do her favours so she doesn’t cause to much trouble about it.
-MC adopted Grace here, so she’s actually more of her mother than like her sister. They just called each other sister because MC doesn’t age. As well, Grace is part of her family and is like her something-something great grandkid.
-MC is Scandinavian and was a legit Viking. She still has Viking tendencies and likes to drink. She has no idea her original country and just grunts when asked because c’mon man, she was busy doing shit back then. Like she knows.
-They moved to Havenfall after they lost the money to an old house MC owned.
-Immortality was because of some trinket she picked up that was the artifact of a God or something. She has no clue- she just stopped aging.
JD
-JD kinda knew about it a little. I mean- MC swears a lot in random languages and some of those JD only knows cause their dad speaks them. So they knew something was up.
-Grace going missing because of Rip had MC going nuts and just ranting in Norse and just ripping into the Face Stealers with her skills. JD just kind of hovered and watched.
-”Okay, I knew something was up, but an Immortal Viking?!” “Hey, what’s wrong with being a Viking?”
-JD and MC like to chat about languages and swear words and taveling the world. MC has a lot of old knowledge about places and she really gets confused about new names so JD finds it hilarious.
-Their relationship is more built on mutual understanding of a shitty situation brought on by their powers and how they never asked for them and it’s hard to deal with.
-MC can pick up JD and bench press them. They find it really hot.
-MC knows Nessie and Nessie hates her. They refuse to say why.
Razi
-Razi only knew because JD let something slip about MC being odd. Razi started paying attention and oh yeah- odd.
-Jonas should not piss off a couple thousands year old Viking. You get punched, kicked and… yeah.
-Razi and MC get along great with their love of knowledge. As well, given how old MC is, the leylines really hold onto her better and don’t need to draw on the Nassar family.
-Baba Yaga is wary of MC because MC has and will beat the crap out of any witch she crosses. Witches know about MC.
-Rahim actually knows MC because of a situation regaurding his shop and a very annoyed Fae a few years back. MC stepped in, and Rahim was the one to tell her about Havenfall so he’s not surprised to know she’s there. The fact she’s dating his brother?! Weird.
-Razi likes to try and recreate some old foods of MC’s even though she says some of them were gross in hindsight, she misses some of the sweets. MC appreciates it.
Mac
-Viking and werewolf wrestling!! Both are thrilled by this. Also, they work out a lot together- before the reveal they often jogged together.
-Mac didn’t know but she isn’t to upset. Secrets are secrets and all that. She does like hearing history from MC though.
-Code Black doesn’t pull as much crap with Mac here because well… MC can ruin them and they already fucked up by forcing Grace to join them. So… Beau finds himself arrested quickly when he presses to much.
-MC and Mac are very cuddly and happy and they like showing off for one another and hunting. Annabelle makes a lot of faces.
-The Beast knows MC because they’re both old. So actually the Beast respects her, MC respects the Beast and thus the Beast leaves them alone. Because they both know they probably would kill each other.
-Comic Con is sillier when MC ends up getting an axe and remarks it looks like her old one. And MC knows Medusa. (May or may not have been a fling)
Diego
-MC is older then Diego and has had similar experiences as he has. As such they’re a lot closer off the bat.
-Diego and MC often bicker about languages and laws and tend to argue over time periods. It’s kind of annoying for others to watch cause it always ends in kissing.
-Grace going missing means very angry Viking going after vampires. Diego only lives because he managed to dodge while explaining.
-MC is very amused by Diego and his attempts to cook and explains that she is a viking and has eaten a lot worse than the eggs he made when he figured out spices make things taste better.
-MC loves Diego very much and when Dracula attacks him, she snaps and really goes to town. Dracula does fight her off but damn it’s close.
-Diego turning human is terrifying for MC because she’s like him. She doesn’t want to live forever alone.
Antonio
-Her magical immortality is how he can revive his sister. Also why Frankenstein is after her- though like she’s been fighting him off for years.
-Antonio has to put up with Grumpy Viking who has no qualms destroying shit. He is mildly amused. Victor is not. Lillianne is.
-MC and Antonio get along better in second season but that’s cause Antonio stopped trying to bring back his sister with MC as he realized it was wrong and not because kiss. They only kiss in second season.
-MC kind of views the kidnapping a little like a marriage kidnapping though she doesn’t say so. She does like him now though so whatever.
-MC and Antonio share similar morals so both of them just casually talk about murder and shit together. It’s disturbing to people.
-MC is very hardy so she’s shocked she got hurt so bad by Frankenstein. It’s really strange.
Vanessa
-It’s MC who nearly married Dracula but chose not to cause like she decided she did not want to be married to him in the end. He isn’t happy about it and MC was so thrilled he died.
-Oh, hell it’s her. Is MC’s only thought about dealing with the Bride and then oh, crap- she’s stronger then normal.
-The Helsing Organization knows about MC but didn’t know about her being able to bring back Dracula so Vanessa is assigned actually to keep an eye on her and not to protect her. The romance is a little more touchy.
-MC and Vanessa bond over shiny weapons and fighting skills. Both also love anime and stuff so it’s adorable.
-Vanessa is a little worried about beign with MC cause MC is immortal and won’t die, and she worries about MC after she dies. She knows MC has had lovers and even families before but like… she wonders.
-MC may or may not be secretly wondering how to turn Vanessa immortal cause she’s tired of her loved ones dying.

No, I’m not dead. It was just a lot of things happened. I got a temporary job position teaching and I got very busy, and then I had to get a new computer as my old desktop gave up completely -- and, with that, I also wanted to play a few games that my previous machine couldn’t handle. No regrets.  Anyway, back to modding. I’m wrapping up to make the next update with the first bachelor, Sebastian. I also finally finished up Marnie and Jas as sheep-people (working on the horns in the portraits was daunting). This version will also include Sandy as a snake person (too bad you can only see her walking circle one day of the year, I worked so hard). Dollynhoevida suggested a few creatures but I ended up making Willy a kappa and not Linus as they suggested. It makes me think of Animal Crossing’s Kapp’n.
Tumblr media
Also, the input from HannaVictoria made me consider having Maru either as a Bastet or a sphinx. Bastet is the "domestic" side of Sekhmet, the lioness goddess of war and love in Egyptian mythology, while the idea of a woman in STEM to be represented by the enigmatic sphynx is also interesting. HannaVictoria also shared a Monster High character who is a cyborg and coded as POC and it looked pretty cool to be honest. I think the cyborg would make better use of Robin's and Demetrius' backgrounds tho (yes, I'm more leaning for the cyborg option. )
Anyway I’m still toying on how making the bachelors. The idea is to have Harvey to be a crow-like creature, so I’m making a prototype that might change -- the result is slightly scary imo. I’m still undecided how to go with the wings. Should they show up or be hidden ? I’m afraid it should be too much like the harpies. I also gave him a different hairdo because it looked bad with the mask. I’m also considering if I should keep Alex’s facial features humanoid or give him the full minotaur treatment.
Tumblr media
I was considering changing at least one more NPC before publishing the next version, maybe Mr Qi.... But to what exactly? Although he is weird enough as he is...
Edit: Oh, I found out someone converted Monster Valley for Content Patcher but I don’t think it is updated for the current sprites.

The most effective method to make htmx pass Django's CSRF token. This is a generally required design. It was recently shrouded distinctly in the included "model venture", yet that was not so natural to find. The most effective method to do halfway delivering. This is a slick stunt for chopping down server side render times a little. This techinque is additionally shrouded in the model undertaking. The "tips" page might grow in the future with additional procedures. On account of: Ben Beecher for doing introductory Sphinx and Read the Docs arrangement in PR #194. … Peruse THIS POST IN CONTEXT

A/N: a.skdjfg;.ewukojhdP:SLK iM SCREAMING YOU GUYS
I'm just really excited about this story and pacing myself is really difficult when I have more than one chapter ready but like I know I need to do that in order to keep consistent updates. I'm also trying to get a job so like wish me luck with that! Let me know what you think! Am I being too cryptic? too obvious? too slow? I need some help lol.

Chapter Three: Sphinx
11:23 PM
Liana didn’t have to wait long before she was able to see the advancing swarm of androids from over a mile straight down the street, white ants getting ever closer. By the time they would reach the entrance of Recall Center 5, every human would have long since cleared out of the area, prompted to leave by the news and emergency alerts. The block was already nearly deserted, but now even the national guard and SWAT had to clear out. She would be free to move without Perkins fucking things up (again). She stood from her crouch behind the concrete rails and grabbed her things before launching down the fire escape, the cold metal burning even through her fleece-lined gloves.
The National Gaurd had already cleared away all the bodies, leaving the street blue and her soul hollow, knowing her friends had been thrown away like common trash. Stupid Perkins, stupid president. Ruined everything. Her fist curled, nails sharp enough to feel through the leather and heat bloomed in her chest, her brows furrowing. She grit her teeth, before closing her eyes and collecting herself.
Breathe in… Hold…  Breathe out…
Focus.
There’s no use dwelling on what’s already done.
Opening her eyes, she then moved to lean against one of the buildings, rummaging around in her bag, wading through the brick-a-brack in search of what she needed. It’s showtime. She just hoped her words of advice to Connor had confused him enough so he would believe her - or at least build some trust. There was no way this would work if he refused to listen. At least he was a deviant now.
A shudder ran up her spine as memories flashed at the thought of Connor’s less than pleasant machine personality. Liana could still feel the echo of mechanical hands tighten around her throat. Fuck. She smashed her balled fist against the brick behind her.
Deep Breath. Refocus.
You’re safe.
She resumed her search, heartbeat more erratic than it was just a minute ago. She finally found what she was looking for in her bag, though, and she was thankful for the distraction. She pulled out two items from her canvas duffel, a smile tugging at her lips despite the swell of nerves and anger in her stomach. Months of work and it all came down to this next few minutes. She was in the home stretch. - if this worked.
If one looked at the two items in her possession, they wouldn’t seem like anything special. Of course, that couldn’t be further from the truth. Underneath, there was previously unheard of technology hiding. They were designed in every way to blend in, just like her duffel bag was. The silver “watch” in her hand had taken considerably more time to perfect than the canvas sack, however - cramming all the same components into a much smaller package was an obstacle befitting a Genius Grant Laureate such as herself. And she had done it, eventually, after months of chugging unhealthy amounts of coffee.
Her colleagues would be so impressed when she finally got the chance to show it off.
The other object was more discreet - a thin, clear, silicone disc about the size of a dime. If looked at closely, thousands and thousands of tiny circuits could be seen, capable of holding several petabytes of code. The code had been the hard part, actually - the memory disc was a standard piece of equipment for Android Techs looking to temporarily add new code to their charge. All they had to do was press it on the androids temple, opposite their LED, and it would be integrated into their systems.
The hard part of Liana’s job had not only been finding the RK800 model’s base codes, but also working with her software team to actually make a dependable subroutine. The AI techs at Cyberlife did not make her life easy, and while that was their job, Liana couldn’t help but hold a grudge against the coding team for making her take longer than she should’ve.
Although, time-wise, the only thing at stake was Liana’s ever-thinning sanity.
All she needed to do now was to get Connor to wear them and then the rest would follow.
The truth is self-evident, if one is able to remember it.
Connor saw her waiting long before they were in speaking distance. The warehouse androids got there first, swarming the street around Liana, pulling down the barriers of the Recall Center and setting their brethren free. The sound of crunching metal was music to her ears. She leaned back on the brick, trying to appear as casual and non-threatening as possible.
Connor, however, had other ideas, and stalked towards her, head down, eyes dark and fists loosely clenched at his side. Boy was he pissed.
He was always unhappy to see her after Markus died.
“Where are the others? What happened?” He was using his interrogation voice, deliberately standing too close, looming over her smaller frame to intimidate an answer out of her. So much for that whole trusting her thing Liana was hoping for. She took a deep breath, trying to remind herself that this was Connor, and she gently pushed him away with one hand. While he was displeased, he took the hint and withdrew slightly, thank fuck. He made her nervous when he was like that. Her lungs burned again with bad memories.
She rung her hands together and steeled her nerves. “Perkins shot them. I was keeping watch on the roof,” She couldn’t meet his eyes, the intensity in his stare too much for her right then. “Even with warning, there were too many soldiers for them. Josh told me to stay put even if something went wrong. Figured if they were dying I shouldn’t go with them.” Josh was unnerved by the thought of someone dying for a cause not their own, even if they were willing. Plus, she really disliked being shot, so she didn’t exactly insist. Besides, the mission was more important than Jericho at this point, unfortunately.
Connor wasn’t any happier with her, but he understood the logic all too well, and knowing Markus and Josh, it was as likely an explanation as any.
“And how did you know what would happen at Cyberlife tower? How do I know you’re not working for them?”
Liana barked out a very inappropriate laugh despite herself. “‘Cus they fucking shot me!” She shook her head, sighing. “More than once, actually.” She looked back at Connor, guessing correctly that he would be wearing a bewildered expression. “They kinda suck.” Liana shrugged at her understatement. “Although, I have found out a thing or two in my campaign against the evil corporate overlords.” She held up the Silicon coding chip. “For one thing, I know that the Amanda program still has a direct link to your head, and since they know you’re working against them, they are going to try to hack you.” She looked him dead in the (very nice looking) eyes just so he would understand how serious she was - how much hinged on him believing her. He was wary enough of the company that she hoped he would believe her. “Now, you could take the chance to find Kamski’s emergency exit from the Zen Garden Program, or you can take this.”
She took his hand in hers and placed the chip in his palm. “It deactivates the Amanda AI, so even if Cyberlife tries to make a connection it won't go through. You don’t have to trust me on this but…” she looked at her watch. 11:29 PM. “You have three minutes until they try to take over your program and assume control of the android rebellion. You can comb through that program in less than a few seconds to see if I’m telling the truth.”
Connor’s LED went solid yellow for a few seconds, his expression blank and eyes glazing over as he processed the information. When he finished, it flashed red for a moment, before returning to a calming, stable blue. He pressed the code to his temple, letting it deactivate the proper AI subroutines. Liana smiled. Step One: complete. His gaze was focused as he searched her face, confused. “How… do you know all this, Lieutenant?”
Aw, the poor thing was used to knowing everything. She crossed her arms and leaned back on the wall, head resting on the brick so she could look at him properly. “You should just call me Liana. Hank and I won't know which one of us you're talking to if you call us both ‘Lieutenant’ all the time,” she gave a soft laugh. Connor was so formal all the time. “but as for me knowing things I shouldn’t? You should be able to figure that out on your own in a few hours, actually. If I told you right now there’s no way in hell you’d believe me, babe.” His LED blipped red again, but Liana wasn’t sure if it was because of confusion or being called ‘babe’ - from her experience, though, it was probably the pet name.
“You said the same thing at the church - that I wouldn’t believe the truth. I assure you, I’m running very low on explanations for how you know all this. I would be glad for any reasoning, however absurd.”
His expression had been steadily softening throughout the conversation until it reached the familiar puppy-dog look that Liana had sorely missed. It had been a while since she’s seen it in earnest. A bloom of warmth spread through her chest and she held back a smile, wary of confusing the poor android further. “Nah, Con, you’ll see for yourself what’s up. Meet me at the café down the block from the station. 9 o’clock on the morning of November 6th, alright? I’ll explain everything to you then.”
Connor’s LED flickered between red and yellow, and he shook his head. “That’s an entire year away, Lieu- Liana.” She just smiled at the use of her name, ignoring his protest, and presented Connor with the silver watch from her bag. Initiate step two.
“Congratulations on saving the day, Connor. I know you don’t need this to tell time, but I want you to have it. As thanks for putting the Cyberlife suits in their place.”
Connor stared at the gift, yellow blinking LED punctuating the ever-increasing silence between them. But slowly, he reached his hand out and took the watch, clipping it carefully around his left wrist. “Thank you. I’ve never received a gift before.” His voice was soft and Liana had to hold herself back again from hugging him. It was almost too much for her heart to handle.
Breathe in.
Breath out.
Focus.
She smiled gently, finishing the conversation. “I’m glad to give it, Con,” She turned her attention to the androids milling about around them and let out a chuckle. “You should probably talk to them, though, too.” He held her gaze for a moment longer, and turned away.
Suddenly, the spell over the two was broken, and Connor was back among the sea of robots around them. Step Two: complete.
As she watched him take the stage and begin his speech to the mass of machines, the clock turned over.
11:36 PM
and then they were both gone
