#star crossed lovers trope
Text
Hot take: it isn't a Romeo and Juliet story if the conflict dividing their respective backgrounds is in any way largely consequential - the whole point of Romeo and Juliet is that their families' rivalry is petty. It's a lot less opposite sides of a war and a lot more opposite sides of a high school football rivalry. A lot less tribes competing for resources and a lot more their parents run competing local buissnesses. A lot less Colonizer/Victim and a lot more celebrities with agents who hate each other. It is supposed to be the stupidest slight with over blown emotions.

me: goddamn, why is the star-crossed lovers trope so sad?
author: character a looked at the room surrounding them. the brightness that character b carried along with them wherever they went had been replaced with sorrow and emptiness. a tear rolled down character a's cheek, knowing that they'd never be able to fill that void.
me: now I know why 🥲

Would that mean that Jin was alright with the Kaorijaku situation because Kenjaku awakened his past memories or told him the truth and he understood that they already did this many times before? Or were he and other past reincarnations just oblivious to everything Kenjaku did?

friendly reminder that keefe literally IS sophie’s nemesis and sophie is keefe’s i dont CARE what lodestar said they are both children with manipulated genes and freakishly powerful and unnatural abilities, and are the centerpieces of two opposing rebel groups’ convoluted plans. they are counterparts and narrative foils in every way you CAN’T deny it I just-

7, 12, and/or 16 for the tropes ask game! (Sending several in case you get duplicates)
7. Star-Crossed Lovers
Tumblr media
I think it's established that I'm not really an Until We Meet Again girl but when it comes to this trope it is undeniably the single best execution of it in BL to date.
12. Forced Proximity
Tumblr media
To My Star does this one best for me, because the reasons they're forced to cohabitate make sense, and their gradual lean toward each other was executed fantastically.
16. Boy Next Door
Tumblr media
Do you even have to ask? Bad Buddy executed this flawlessly, combined with a number of other tropes in a high-wire act that it managed to keep balanced the whole way through.

#7. Star-Crossed Lovers
Choco Milk Shake! I actually touched upon this trope in my response to Shan, but I love this little show, so let me rehash the pain. I know this might change, considering the fact that there is a season 2 coming out, but as it stands, they're destined to always only have 99 days together.
There's no growing old together, not even a future beyond a few months together. Both couples are always destined to be separated at the end. If Milk and Choco even try to stay beyond the agreed 99 days, they will cease to exist. No amount of love will keep them together.
Tumblr media
The fact that Choco and Milk came back for a second time by their volition, for their own love...
Tumblr media
I'm not sure that I'm ready to go through the pain of another 99 days, but I know if that's the route they go for season 2, it'll end up being bittersweet. I'll enjoy every second of it.
#14. Sunshine/Sunshine
Ingredients. Hands down. Was it a BL? Was it a long-form commercial? Probably.
I'm a sucker for slice of life, even more so when you can tell that they both are very much in love with each other. Marwin and Tops were both just forces of positivity, just on the different spectrums of the personality scale. Even if we don't truly know their ending, they left me confident that their relationship will survive the long distance.
Also, I feel like Sunshine x Sunshine is usually reserved to high school settings. Which is why I loved that in Ingredients, they were already a few years into being adults and just really starting to figure out what life meant living together. While I enjoy all the high-intensity, convoluted shows, Ingredients is a breath of, much-needed, fresh air.

Hi Pinky, do you think Jlaire is Beauty or Treagdy
I think Jlaire is both to an extent.
Yes, they have many parallels to Romeo and Juliet, but even when they 'lose' each other, be it to corruption, a certain timeline reset or even death, they can't help but reach out to each other. Through time and space.
Jlaire is beautiful because it persists. Even when there's no memory, even when it looks like goodbye. It's a tragedy because time and time again they're cruelly separated. But they find each other all the same.

We are like the sun and moon. We truly are.
My life thrives in the night while yours in the day.
Our paths cross at sunrise when you drop by my house.
Our paths cross at sunset when we have dinner
Our meeting place is always were the sun and the moon slow down a moment to bathe in the gold.
I can't ever touch you, but I can feel you. I feel your warmth everyday.
Sometimes I miss you by a fraction of a second and miss me by one too.
But there is one appointment I'd never miss. The eclipse.
And I know like always you'll show up early and wait for me.
Most times it feels like your existence is a mockery of my own.
I am only able to reflect your light and I am so bitter so so so bitter but I can't help but love you.
It would be much easier to just hate you and part ways.
But I can't, you loop me back into your orbit every time, with every smile, with every word.
So let's meet during the eclipse as the sun and moon always do.

just wanted to mention that my favorite romance trope is the star-crossed lovers' one. when the characters already are doomed by the narrative, when they have to kill one another because of greater forces, or when one (or both) will be the death of the other (and even better if they're aware of it). imo it makes it all the more interesting when putting them in different universes/verses/etc. the time they've together is limited so the moments they have together are more satisfying, the overcoming of fate even if just a moment, the perfect catharsis, my bread and butter tbh. and it's the only way i can ship my muses because look at their tales and what they all have in common.

i've been thinking about this and i feel like the difference btwn anne and mary boleyn is actually most evident in the early 1520s; if anne had been more like mary she probably would have married percy regardless, damn the consequences. it doesn't make one 'better' than the other, i think just different...
altho sometimes i think mary's decision to wed stafford in 1534 in particular is understandable in context, it wasn't done to marry without royal consent of course but mary had been a widow for like six years and widows had a considerable amount of freedom in their marriage choices, certainly more than wards or women of nobility making their first marriage, had she not been the sister of the queen it might have been more easily forgiven.
also there's arguably precedent to some extent, she was hviii's sister in law whereas his actual sister had been able to make her own choice in her second marriage once widowed, of course she had to pay fines for this transgression and all this but she was invited back to court eventually after asking wolsey to intercede with her which parallels how mary wrote to cromwell, wolsey's 'successor' iyw, for her own intercession for royal forgiveness/mercy.

Currently thinking about how Cassian could be Enalius reincarnated.
Like okay consider this.
Enalius was a warrior god, right? He died defending Ramiel from enemy hoards or whatever.
But picture this: after he died, he ascended to god hood. And as a god of war, he watched closely over the Fae and the humans.
So what if he fell in love with a mortal.
Every day he'd go down, and try to get her to love him, despite any other gods warning him against it, that it was a bad idea, that it wouldn't end well.
And one day, he succeeded. She told him she loved him.
But then, because she was mortal, she dies (either is killed or dies naturally).
Desperate, Enalius goes to the Mother, the Cauldron, whoever, and begs for her life back.
And they strike a deal with him. Her spirit will be reincarnated, over and over again, until they fall in love again. The only problem is, he also has to be reincarnated, over and over again, so he doesn't remember he loves her.
But because he's desperate to see her again, and because he knows that he could never forget her because the sound of her voice is engraved in his soul, he agrees.
After countless reincarnations, he's finally reincarnated as an Illyrian. That Illyrian's name is Cassian.
And his mortal lover?
Nesta.
