Vox biology headcanons I mentioned last time, because why tf not
• Vox has 2 brains Well, only technically. He has hardware needed to power a TV in his TV head and an actual, human brain just below his head, somewhere along high-chest level. The actual biological spine starts just under where the neck part of it would end, but instead of there being unsupported nothingness, there's a fucking metal spine that fills in the void. A bunch of wires extend from the hardware, forming a sort of secondary nervous system, allowing Vox to do all his tech bullshit.
The thickest of the wires runs all the way down Vox's spine and exits in the place where the tailbones would usually be, succesfully forming a tail. The tail actually can extend about 2 meters (or 6ft), but about half of it is tucked away inside his body. He can roll up the tail to about 25 cm (3ft : 4, 3/4 of a foot ig?) or extend it up to the afformentioned 2m/6ft. It's mainly used to be able to move around while charging or to be able to find a chargeport from the comfy spaces to sit.
Vox's tail is shaped like your standard computer charger, with the end being a B-type plug used in the US (due to him being American while alive). It is, as mentioned before, not actually a tail, but, rather a charging cable. After updating his head to a newer, more energy-consuming model it just appeared one day. As stated in previous hc's, Vox needs both sleep and charging, and here I explain why.
Basically, charging is for his hardware, and without it he can't do all his tech bullshit, overheats a lot and generally enters a state that is most simmilar to the flu. He also experiences problems with his display due to the hardware powering it literally dying.
Now, sleep in needed for his human brain. Without sleep he will show typical symptoms of a person who hasn't fucking slept in a while. What's suprising is that he won't notice for a while, since his biological NS (nervous system) will use the energy of his mechanical NS to stay alive (and vice versa!), but before the 'no sleep' symptoms set in, he'll have trouble with his memory due to the lack of sleep, which makes it unable for his short-term memory to be transfered to his long-term memory, and his ADHD making the whole short-term memory shit even worse. (Yes, he does have ADHD; will be explained in another post)
BONUS RADIOSTATIC
When Alastor dissapeared, Vox put himself on the amazing "23h work day" schedule and allowed himself one hour of charging time. Due to sufficient charging, his symptoms of lack of sleep were limited to shitty memory and light chronic fatigue, which kept progressively getting worse each year that Alastor was gone, but Vox substitued sleep and combatted his symptoms with...!!! (drumroll please!)
A shit ton of energy drinks, coffee (both drink and powder) and sugar mixed together into an unholy mixture that no other denizen of Hell nor Heaven would dare to touch with a 300m/900ft pole
So when Alastor returned to find his bf/husband barely alive (or, well, as alive as a demon can be) he analyzed his schedule and proceeded to seduce/force Vox into taking a week-long break to get some motherfucking sleep for once. Vox then proceeded to not be able to sleep on the first day and then completely crashing and sleeping about 60 hours straight (gay) on days 2-4. Alastor basically wandered around, cuddled Vox and was happy that his masterplan worked. After trying to make up for as much missed sleep as he could, Vox woke up, ate like 5 kg of spaghetti (Al was in the mood for pasta), drank like three big-ass bottles of water (about 4,5 liters), went to the bathroom and took an hour-long shower, after whichhe crashed back too sleep for another 12 hours before he stopped the sleep fest.
Alastor was both concerned and impressed at that, since that's a lot of fucking spaghetti, but also that's almost certainly more water than the average demon is supposed to drink per day.
In the end they went on a date and just chilled for the remaining time and Alastor made Vox a new, 6 hour work plan and he would't take 'no' for an answer.
(credits to @deppresion-soup for the tail thing and most of the Radiostatic bonus. It was their idea, I just kinda changed and expanded it in the 1:35 AM rush) (PS they have an amazing fic on ao3 with two-sided radiostatidc for once)

Just a Typical Morning
literally slapped a fresh coat of paint on this little thing and did some proofreading, posting here because it's not really a story i feel like belongs on my Ao3
_____________________________________________________________
A snap. A small flare of light. A hiss. The light goes out with a brief spike of pain. The scent of nicotine filling his lungs, sitting there for a moment before being lazily huffed back out. He rolled the cig between his teeth, canines catching the paper.
For once, it was a slow day. Quiet too, if the silent city ruins said anything about it. No howling of some crazy Zed in the alleyways, no rushing of cars; nothing. Then again it’s probably something like, 6AM if he thought about it, since the sun wasn’t high enough yet to count as day.
Well as close to day as it could get, he assumed. It wasn’t like he knew anything else, anyways.
Deimos gripped the cig between his fingers, watching the flecks of tobacco sprinkle over the railing. The balcony was small, granted, but it was enough. Throw on a piece of metal or two along the railing and it even made for some quick cover if there was an attack. Overhead assault was harder to avoid, especially from so high up.
The end of the cigarette glowed dimly as he inhaled, smoke trailing into the air.
He didn’t like being up this early. It was too quiet.
Normally by now he would probably be going downstairs to fetch some grub from the cafeteria with Ford, talk about their evenings or whatever else would come up. Sometimes he’d be scrambling to get his gear on to check whatever combusted in the lower levels. Of course if it was the mercs just screwing around and breaking whatever had gotten mixed up with their roughhousing then he’d get upset. Fixing that shit isn’t easy you know, but it wasn’t worth straining his voice anyways; Ford could do that for him in spades.
He sighed in a soft plume of smoke. Really, what else can you do when the hired help has to be a bunch of knuckleheads, anyways?
Whatever it was, he definitely wasn’t throwing any parties for them that’s for sure. Last thing anyone needed was those guys keeping everyone up all night by being loud as fuck.
Another drag, a slight shake in his fingers as they met his lips.
His arms hurt like Hell from having to spend so long rewiring that at this point he was surprised they were even remotely steady at all. And when he thought about it him waking up at the ass end of dawn because the comms had crashed again was probably a good reason as to why he was up so early. Digging around in cramped crawl spaces was not how he wanted to spend his day; and being tossed into a late night mission on top of it was even lower on that list.
Damn his bed seemed real inviting, early morning or not.
When was the last time he’d slept in? Or just had a day off? Sure they’d had low days along with the high ones, but when did they get an actual break where they could relax? The last time there wasn’t some kind of emergency or chaos outside their doors was at least a decade ago at this point, maybe less. He didn’t really have it in him to care much, since he didn’t keep track of the days anymore. No point to it.
More smoke filled his lungs. He really should just get some extra shut eye, rest until he felt better.
But, for some reason, he couldn’t.
He’d snapped to awareness with a cold feeling of dread weighing down his stomach. It had been so strong he’d shot up, halfway reaching for the pistol at his bedside thinking someone was there. But there wasn’t. It was dead quiet, like the moments after a bad mission.
Maybe that’s why he was outside right now. The casual air helped to mask the intent in his eyes as he scanned the skyline.
A glint of reflected light from a nearby rooftop nearly made him crush the cig in his hands as he tensed. Eyes snapping upwards he focused, but relaxed when all he found was a few familiar faces among one of the many teams patrolling the area. He snorted, smoke curling around his face.
Another pull, the cold wash of nicotine a nice cleanse to the tension in the air.
He was overthinking this.
And after all they’d been through, who could blame him really? Being constantly on the run would make anyone look over their shoulder or keep a gun within reach. Still, it wasn’t like the Agency knew where they were this time. To add to it nothing could get through the blast doors even if it tried. They’d tested those well enough for him to be certain.
It was just a very quiet night and he wasn’t used to it. That had to be it.
The cig smoldered between his lips in one last drag before he flicked the used butt over the railing. Arms raising over his head he stretched with a groan, “Damn,” He muttered, wincing at the series of pops going up his spine, “Ya’d think I’m getting old with how I crack like a handful of spaghetti.”
He was done with his morning smoke anyways.
Mobility returned to his spine Deimos rubbed at his neck he turned his back to the city, meandering back inside. Hitting the switch beside the glass door to slide it shut behind him he glanced at the clock on the comically cluttered bedside table he owned. Yep, too early for him to be this awake, if the glaring red 7:37 was anything to go by. Well mostly glaring, since his cap was haphazardly draped over it when he’d tossed it there yesterday. Or last night, he didn’t look at it then because he was too busy flopping face first into bed.
A healthy gurgling from his stomach brought him out of his thoughts.
That’s right. He didn’t eat last night either. Not really any time to when you’re face first into the ugly end of some bastardized wiring job done nearly half a decade ago. He hummed under his breath.
Was it too early to get something from the cafeteria? It was still morning he supposed; maybe some breakfast sausage would be left this time since he’d be able to get there first for once. The thought alone was tantalizing despite the exhaustion tugging at the edge of his conscious.
Did he even change after all that sweatshop work yesterday?
Pulling at the hem of his tank top he took a whiff. Yep, stunk of old sweat and probably a hint of grease; he didn’t. Pants probably didn’t smell too great either but who would check those and not come off like a weirdo? A quick sweep of the cargo pants half hanging off his hips proved them to be good enough with no obvious stains or rips.
Deimos shrugged. It was good enough. At least he didn’t stink of blood or anything, otherwise Doc would be on his ass hard. Though it wasn’t like anyone would be able to tell the difference in this sausage fest anyways. He’d be fine for a quick early morning bite.
Just needed to grab his jacket and boots and he’d be good to go.
Deimos scratched the stubble lining his jawline while he scanned the room. He’d taken off his jacket somewhere mid collapse but he couldn’t place where. He wasn’t one to lose things—most of the time at least—but sometimes it felt like they just up and disappeared. With his luck it would probably end up in a really obnoxious place like behind the bed or something. Not like that would happen since the thing was braced up against the wall in the corner so it had to be somewhere around here.
He paused when he noticed the distinctly leather looking lump laying on the floor beside said furniture.
Oh. There it is.
Approaching the bed he picked up his jacket off the floor. It still had some dust from when he’d been crawling through the vents last night as he swiped a hand over the shoulder. He grimaced at the sticky webbing that stuck to his fingers; a few cobwebs, too. Gross. Shaking it to clear out any excess dust he threw it on haphazardly, adjusting his pants once it was snugly over his shoulders. Belt tightened up again he’d turned towards the table and nearly tripped over his own boots.
Welp, at least those weren’t far either. Glad he’d had half the mind to take those off before crashing.
Cursing a bit under his breath he snatched his cap off the clock. With a quick sweep of his hand through his hair to straighten it a bit he put his hat on and sat on the bed, scooting his boots closer with a foot. Once they were laced up and buckled he got to his feet, ready for the day—or at least, the really early morning.
He glanced at the clock again. It blinked lazily at 8AM.
Eh, early enough. But the call of some sweet breakfast sausage was not to be ignored.
The moment he turned towards the door there was a series of firm knocks. He jumped, nearly tripping again as he cracked out, “Uh, yeah?” Damn that cig wasn’t enough apparently because his nerves must still be fried from that morning.
“Deimos, it’s me.”
His lips quirked a bit, confused. Normally, Doc only went after him when something broke or got jammed up again but a glance at the tablet resting on the table face up didn’t reveal a blinking light for a missed message. Unless something went wrong in the handful of seconds he’d been standing there then why was he trying to talk to him now of all times, “Hang on.” Tromping across the room he swiped his code in, the door opening with a hiss.
Doc was standing in front of his room, arms behind his back and head turned away as he kept his focus down the hall before turning to face him. He scanned him head to foot, “You look like shit.”
Deimos rolled his eyes with a huff, “Good morning to you too, Doc.” Leave it to him to state the obvious. Not like he didn’t already feel like crap in more than a few ways. He propped an arm against the door as he nodded towards him, “What’s up?”
2B stood a bit straighter, and just by his posture alone he had a feeling that whatever he was going to say wasn’t good, “Boss called in this morning, we have another assignment.”
Well he wasn’t wrong.
Deimos sighed, traces of smoke licking at his tongue as he tossed his head back, “Seriously? Now? Doc I haven’t eaten yet.” As if to prove his point his stomach made yet another unhappy glug. Both men glanced down, the tech sweeping a hand towards it with brows raised.
“I can tell.” Doc merely returned his gaze placidly, “Have you seen Sanford yet?”
He shook his head, “Nah. Haven’t left until now.” Though if he were to take a guess, he’d say the demolition’s expert would be working out somewhere.
It seemed they shared the same thought as 2B nodded, “I assume he might be downstairs at this hour. I did hear some commotion from one of the training decks.”
He chuckled a bit. Typical Ford.
“I want you to be ready within the hour, Deimos. You’ll get to eat when you get back. I’ll tell the staff in the kitchen to keep something in the oven for you.” He turned around, fully intending to leave before adding, “And also, get some washing done when you get back. You smell like a corpse.” With that he took his leave while Deimos scowled at his back.
Great. Of course it would be doc who’d notice.
Still he only sighed, punching the code into the panel to lock the door behind him. Getting his gear from the locker he had downstairs would only take a couple of minutes, and Ford should already be up if he was taking up a training room.
Just another day in Nevada, per the usual.
Things never really change.

Story behind the success of an emerging University in India
- by Raunak Chowdhury, CollegeTips In this 21st century, technology and developments in India are growing at a booming rate. India is one of the world's fastest growing economies as a result industries and technological developments are increasing rapidly as a result, creating a high demand for manpower and resources in the industry and services sector. Arrival of new companies, MNCs, public-private partnerships, growth of India's IT giants, Banking, finance, etc., is creating a very competitive environment where not only academics is enough to stand out but also industry level training and knowledge is required. The education system is evolving, and it is mandatory for the educational institutions to adapt accordingly. Sagar Group of Educational Society (SAGE) University, Indore is a private university based in Central India, established in 2017. Despite being a fairly new institution, SAGE achieved remarkable goals and recognitions with their futuristic approach of teaching, skill-based education and employment opportunities. Approved by the UGC as well as the AICTE, BCI, COA and PCI, SAGE is one of the most emerging college in Central India. Within few years, it bagged numerous rewards and recognitions : Ranked at 65th spot in India as the Top Private Engineering Institute (2020) and 4th in Central India by the Times of India and Number one Emerging University by Outlook (2020). It is Indore's first University to be awarded for Excellence in Online Education by QS I-Gauge E-Lead. Related: Coinbase to invest in Indian crypto and Web3 amid tax regulation clarity
While counter-productive on some levels, India’s decision to levy heavy taxes on crypto investors has brought over certain clarity around the government’s stance on the budding ecosystem.
In early April, Coinbase Ventures, an investment arm of American crypto exchange Coinbase, conducted an in-person pitching event in Bangalore, India, with plans to plan to invest $1 million in various Indian cryptocurrency and Web3 initiatives.
In partnership with Buidlers Tribe, Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong revealed that the venture firm intends to tap into India’s software talent and help accelerate India’s economic and financial inclusion goals. Here's The Coolest Feature Of The Nissan Skyline R34 | HotCars
New Post has been published on https://coolcarsnews.com/heres-the-coolest-feature-of-the-nissan-skyline-r34-hotcars/
Here's The Coolest Feature Of The Nissan Skyline R34 | HotCars
Tumblr media
The Nissan GT-R needs no launch. The Godzilla of the motoring industry includes a cult following thanks in part to the impressive price to functionality and of course, Fast And Mad. It’s hard to overlook the reputation boost the sports car got after its launch in the movie 2 Quick And 2 Furious as well as the video game Grand Turismo.
The R34 noticed its life begin within the late ‘90s, 1999 to become specific. Post its creation, the R34 simply refined its title and almost everything was improved over the predecessor. Although it wasn’t come in the US, the amount of recognition this specific car has is first rate.
Though the R34 is still considered the proper Skyline, Nissan did give the GT-R a generation update with all the R35 being introduced within 2007. The Skyline name was officially dropped in the GT-R’s name tag also it set the performance standards at a whole new level.
As imports, some R34s discovered their way to US coast line and are currently selling to get a premium . Although it continues to be a dream for many, the particular Nissan R34 Skyline GT-R is a magnificent display associated with Japanese ingenuity.
Our focus, nevertheless , is directed towards featuring the Nissan Skyline R34’s coolest feature—the clever ATTESA ET-S all-wheel-drive system.
Tumblr media
Nissan introduced the Skyline R34 GT-R in 1999 as an alternative to the R33 . The particular new-generation GT-R was in line with the existing platform but included slightly new internals. The particular Nissan GT-R R34 had been an improvement on the Skyline R33 from every possible angle. Called the R34 generation, the particular GT-R had a 2 . 6l twin-turbocharged inline-6 belonging to the RB26DETT family. On paper, Nissan stated an output of 276 horsepower in accordance with the "gentlemen's agreement" set between Japan manufacturers. Actual figures topped 330 horsepower and the energy was mated to a 6-speed Getrag manual gears and sent to all four tires. 0-60mph time was close to 5. 2 seconds, which usually to a seemingly heavy sports vehicle was absolutely astounding.
Tumblr media
One of the illustrates of the GT-R was the quirky design. Never before observed in the industry the GT-R had been quite simply, unique. What astonished most enthusiasts was the GT-R’s ability to carry speed. One more interesting piece was the rules of aerodynamics of the car. The GT-R was developed with a lot of assessment and has made quite an effect in the motoring industry. Substantial aerodynamics help made the vehicle extremely slippery whilst supplying downforce when at higher speeds.

Tumblr media
Coming to the inside, it’s the most common Nissan business apart from the display screen on top of the center console. The particular monitor/screen detailed a lot of information, a lot of which is never used in any way. The tech-fest is thanks to a 5. 8-inch multi-function screen, which shows seven different live readings associated with engine and vehicle data like turbo pressure, essential oil and water temperature, amongst other details.
Tumblr media
Much like the predecessors, the R34 was able to keep the fundamental ethos from the GT-R alive . The particular driver-focussed nature was maintained and so was the minimalist home design with not much to talk about. The particular driving position was just right and pedals were situated perfectly for heel plus toe downshifts. One of the best pieces about the R34 was exactly how simple it was. Unlike the particular R35 which is now the supercar, the R34 featured a modest identity yet largely came across as a hair in sheep’s clothing. Because of its rather inconspicuous nature, the particular R34 was able to smoke lots of its competition and some owned by a tier above.

Tumblr media
While you might be tricked into believing the particular ATESSA is something of the complex wordplay. However , this stands for “Advanced Total Grip Engineering System for All-Terrain” while the ET-S bit is usually short for “Electronic Rpm Split. ” A rather easy set of words to be reasonable. It was a total Japanese matter to come up with quirky acronyms within the ‘90s and Nissan remained true to it. The ATTESA ET-S was first used in the particular R32 Nissan Skyline GT-R and Nissan Skyline GTS-4 back in 1989. The ATTESA E-TS uses a mostly regular RWD-biased power transfer. Generate to the rear wheels is certainly constant via a prop base and rear differential, yet drive to the front tires is more complex by utilizing the transfer case.
Tumblr media
To control the ATTESA E-TS system, there is a 16-bit computer that monitors the particular car’s movements 10 periods per second to feeling traction loss by calculating the speed of each wheel with the ABS sensors. Also, the three-axis G-Sensor mounted beneath the center console feeds horizontal and longitudinal inputs right into a computer, which controls both ATTESA-ETS AWD system as well as the ABS system. The computer may then direct up to 50% from the power to the front wheels. Because of its design, the R34 GT-R was able to carry plenty of speed through corners in spite of its heft and the understeering prone to conventional AWD techniques.

Analysis: Ten Years Later
So, I’ve been thinking a lot about the Ten Years Later videos lately, and this analysis post just sort of happened~
To be fair, I did need to work it all out since I mildly referenced it in my Foley Fest drabble.
If I get any comic book info wrong, I'm so sorry. I don't know anything about Marvel aside what my husband knows about the 90's Spiderman cartoon.
Let's start off with Sam and Tucker, cause honestly? There's not much to go over with them.
Sam is sort of basic. Sort of dull. Butch says "leather" trench, but it's most likely pleather, or something more animal-friendly. Even (especially) ten years later, I don't see Sam giving up the good fight.
Her crop top, tho, seems to be a constant. I don't know if that's really her aesthetic, or if Butch just thinks all women like to show off their stomachs. Either way, the DP logo is something Sam would definitely sport.
Something I wanted to point out: in her first TYL sketch, Butch compares her to Black Widow. A quick Wiki skim later gives a bit more depth to the comic book ignorant like me. Black Widow's origin story is that of an orphan child being raised by the Russian government as a sort of Anti-Capitan America. She met up with Tony Stark by trying to assassinate someone in his company.
Sort of interesting to compare Sam with Black Widow, and then give her all those huge anti-ghost guns, hm~?
Tucker, I have a few issues with. Not his design (aside how he only got one sketch and then his final design - show your own characters some love, Butch!), but how Butch talks about him.
Specifically, that he's running for president. Quoting from Wikipedia:
“Article Two, Section 1 of the United States Constitution sets forth the eligibility requirements for serving as President of the United States:
No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.”
Tucker would only be twenty-four in TYL. He's still got 11 years to go before he can even think about running for president. So, like...
What happened to that little bit of legality?
Also of note, Tucker is the only redesign without the DP logo. Most likely, this is because he was the first and therefore before Butch had the idea, but he did give the majority of Sam's the logo.
Moving right along, we get into the meat of TYL. The Fentons.
A moment of silence for my baby Jazz.
How did "I want to go into psychology to help troubled teens" turn into "I'm essentially Tucker now"? Yes, she's the only one we've seen use the Fenton Peeler, but that doesn't really equate to getting "into the tech side of things."
Even in her sketch of just being in a jumpsuit with a "Maddie" haircut, Butch specifically gives her a piece of technology. He has her in a lab, leaning against a circuitry panel. Not a book in sight - not even one on ghost hunting!
And her final design? Oh, my sweet, smart child. There's just something so inhuman and terrifying about this image. Physically wired into Fenton Works? She "helps run all the gadgets"? She has control over traffic lights and automatic doors? Somehow, I feel like Tucker being up close and personal with his iPhone would be way more helpful than Jazz in a building on the other side of the city would be.
What happens the moment she runs into Technus? Heck, just send someone in to cut the power physically and she's completely vulnerable.
I guess Jack would be happy to be half robot? I mean, it seems like half his brain would be gone, so he can probably just be programmed to be excited about it anyway. I've never really seen Jack as the kind of guy to be upset about hygiene. If anything, I see him as a really clean person (until he gets completely distracted with an invention or something).
His second sketch is the one I really prefer - older, but still Jack. He’s big and buff and still a big old teddy bear. I can see this as a man who saw his son save the world and think "I'm slapping that logo on everything to show how proud of him I am".
Jack's finalized sketch is what really gave me pause in the first place. He's missing an eye. He's missing a leg. He has a prosthetic that, according to Butch, runs on ectoplasm. And, ok, I can see that happening. For God's sake, he turned his son and college best friend into halfas on accident because he wasn't paying attention - this man is not someone you really want in a lab setting.
But that's not what happened.
According to Butch, there is a possibility that people did this. That flesh and blood humans went after the Fentons and did them personal harm simply because of their connection to Danny. Jack lost a limb because a person decided to a) take out ghost-hunting competition, or b) cause Danny some kind of psychological harm, i.e. "If we can't get to you, we can get to your family".
And Maddie?
She was first and foremost a mother. Despite all the angst and family drama this fandom produces, Maddie loves her son above anything else. I feel, personally, if there was a choice between continuing her research and her children, she would give it all up in a heartbeat to make sure they're safe and happy.
That's all gone in her sketches.
Her very first image, she has a buzz cut, she has a huge weapon that's creating some sort of unmerciful death-ray, her goggles are down and she means business. There's nothing matronly about her in that image, no remnants of the mother that would look fondly on her son. No, she's murdering the F out of some ghost and does not care.
Again, in he second sketch, her hair is cut off and the goggles are down. There is something out there and she is going to destroy it. There is something out there that made Maddie leap "out of some sort of an airborne vehicle" with the ghost equivalent of the Little Boy and the Fat Man.
And, again, Butch is not helping.
"Well, I think maybe the Ghost Zone is in turmoil. I think that the ghosts need to live somewhere, and they’re trying to come here. So that’s why the Fentons get involved and that’s why there are so many weapons and why they’re up night and day, fighting off the ghosts."
First off - it's been established that the Ghost Zone and the Human World are connected. Anything that happens to one, will affect the other. So if the Ghost Zone has become so uninhabitable that the ghosts are coming here? How bad off is our world?
Second, Butch didn't say the ghosts were attacking. He said they wanted to live here. Yes, there are some ghost jerks out there *cough*Skulker*cough* but what about peaceful ones like Dora and Poindexter? The people of the Far Frozen? Shouldn't the Fentons know by now that not all ghosts are hostile? (Plus, this would have been an amazing use of Jazz's psychology to talk to some of these ghosts, to calm them down and learn from them.)
Maddie's final version manages to paint an even more bleak image for her. Butch mentions Mad Max and, a quick Wiki read later, that's, like, not good. Civilization is gone, lawlessness runs rampant, murder seems to be the only way to protect yourself. And Maddie is supposed to call forth that image?
Her hair is now essentially the shortest length Butch can give her without shaving her head. She's still wearing those goggles. We have yet to see this woman's eyes, she keeps them so hidden from the world. She has no guns to defend herself, only an ectoplasm-charged bat. She doesn't care about keeping her distance - oh no, she wants to be in the middle of the action.
And those BDSM ghosts? She keeps them on leashes short enough that they could touch her. She keeps them around to "help her sense other ghosts", nevermind the fact that, from what I recall, Danny is the only one with an actual ghost sense. Those ghosts look angry and not at all subdued.
And she's still wearing the DP logo. Somehow, even knowing her son is part ghost, she still has enough detachment/hatred of ghosts to demean them down to an animalistic level.
Vlad's designs are, whoo boy... Unique? Different? Each one portrays a completely different vision of the future that don't really mesh together. His first sketch is rather, uh, let's be completely honest here, Satanic. But other than that apparent dive into absolute evil, he looks more or less the same. Like no time has passed. I guess Clockwork could have yanked him out of space before too long?
By now everybody knows about the second sketch with fat!Vlad, tiger!Maddie, and perfect clone!Daniel. Heck, I knew about Daniel before I even knew there was a Ten Years Later video.
And let me just say this real quick: I love that, as soon as the words "He’s finally got himself a cloned child." were said we all, individually, came to the conclusion that: his name is Daniel Masters, he can be a spoiled jerk but isn't really evil, and he just wants someone to be friends with and play video games with. Like, I've yet to even see him in a TYL setting, he's more of a "Season 4" character.
My other thing I love about this image? Fat!Vlad. For a middle-aged man who kept in perfect shape, who fights with ghost teenagers every day, to suddenly put on weight? To me, in my experience, that means he's happy. He's found a way to be calm and relax and, yes, be settled enough to put on a few pounds. That's what happened to my husband. Before we got together she was an anxious, angry (precious) emo chick. And now she's calm, she's happy, she's adorably chubby~ (don't tell her I said this lol). Like, Vlad's so chill in this sketch that, whenever he finds out Daniel's been hanging out with Danny, he's not even mad! He's just like, "Be home by curfew, love you!" (My TYL Vlad is -absolutely- Maes Hughes. There isn't a single employee at Dalv Corp that hasn't seen a fold out wallet full of Daniel's pictures.)
(And just think, when Daniel brings home his boyfriend/girlfriend, Vlad brings out the baby book and Daniel's S/O is just like, "Why were your first steps when you were fourteen???")
Tiger!Maddie is great, if a little odd. Then again, Vlad's just living the dream of every five year old that just went to the zoo for the first time: "I wanna bring home the big kitty!"
And we get back to crazytown with the third sketch. Vlad wants to be king, what? When? Butch do you... do you know who Vlad is? You were so close with perfect clone!Daniel, and then you pull this. The only thing I can see this working as is some kind of Medieval AU with Dora and Aragon/pre-Sarcophagus Pariah Dark. Other than that, I can't see this sketch fitting in anywhere in DP.
But Vlad's final sketch returns us to the nightmare that is TYL. Vlad was abandoned in space, all human contact cut off, the only person that willingly called him a friend turned his back on him. He's probably ready to curl up and die at that point and then aliens come and kidnap him, forcing him to be a miner and then a coliseum fighter. I can't imagine the blow to his pride all that did.
I can accept that he would keep enough presence of mind to escape. Heck, I can almost believe that he would willingly keep the chain on his arm (though as less of a "reminder of where he came from" and more of a "I'm going to make these guys pay!"). But what really gets me is Butch saying, "he really, really wants to get Danny now".
That's not at all ominous. Not at all.
Like, what is that supposed to mean? I'm sure we're supposed to infer he's coming after Danny, but, would he? After all that time alone, after being broken down by some crazy Criminal Minds aliens? I'm sure that, in all that time Vlad was captured, he must have let it slip that he wasn't the only halfa. That this boy on Earth was more powerful that he had been in his prime. Could he be coming to warn Danny? Maybe the reason he escaped was because the aliens have their eye on a new "champion"?
Danielle is absolutely precious to me. My sweet little girl who only wants to live her own life. I love that her first sketch gives her a bit more of the Vlad influence (especially since I headcanon that she has his fire core and not Danny's ice core). The opposing black and white outfit, though, just looks like a bad Harley Quinn to me.
The second sketch is kind of cutsie, kind of bleh. There's something about Butch's femme designs that just... don't really hit the mark.
I'm adoring her third sketch. The overall feel of "ghost" really comes through with this design (and she finally has matching boots and gloves) and it feels really right with her. I've always loved the idea that she's more ghost than human, and this images hits it just right.
Her final design is ok. We go back to the alternating colors, which I don't like, but she also looks more like Danny, which I do like. Butch says she "likes to party" which I can kind of see. She's full of spunk, she has an adventurous side, she'd love to go out and see everything and get involved with as much as she can. The fact that she can shape ectoplasm into words seems like something she'd be into. Just imagine her floating outside of Vlad's window, cussing him out with floaty green writing.
Now, we finally get to Danny. His first sketch isn't too bad. He has a dedicated place for the Thermos - good idea on his part. A little simple, little plain. Loving the cargo pants, tho.
His second design looks a little more like a plain upgrade form his usual hazmat, but with more armor. Makes me think Sam and Tucker went to a sporting goods store and slapped all the knee/elbow pads they could on him to keep him from hurting himself so much.
I like the idea of the third design. When he embraces his ghost side, he gets more Dan-like qualities. I think something like this would take him a while to adjust to, but he would be better for it. This design feels like it would be the strongest one - delving into his ghost half and pulling power from it instead of fighting to keep it balanced with his human half.
Danny's final design, however, make me think. His hazmat has been replaced, or most likely upgraded, to include more Fenton gadgets - specifically trading the Thermos for a Glove. But the Glove, instead of just being a catch/release system, actually uses the caught ghost to power his suit. The green isn't just for design, it's the power he's taken from other ghosts he's captured. Does this mean he's just taking whatever the captured ghost's power is (like weather-control, or even power over boxes)? Or is it like the rest of Fenton tech where he's actually taking the ectoplasm from the captured ghost to power himself? How much is that hurting the other ghost?
As strong as Danny is, as strong as he keeps getting, why does he need to power a suit to keep fighting?
I've been thinking about this final design, thinking about the designs for all the other characters, especially the Fentons. I thought about how Danny would fight until his last breath to protect Amity Park, and, like...
Did he?
Did Danny die at some point prior to Ten Years Later?
Only once is Danny referred to as Danny Fenton, and that's during the sketch for Jack's original design. He's not even called Fenton in his own redesigns. He's had several sketches, but all of them were for Phantom. Heck, Vlad got a human drawing, even if it wasn't for his final design.
And the more I think about it, the more it seems to make sense.
Jazz gave up on psychology when her little brother died. She probably became depressed and couldn't leave the house. Wiring herself into Fenton Works seemed like the next logical step - at least this way she could help without having to face his friends who could go on without him.
Jack was probably grieving when he was attacked. He lost his son, his eye, and his leg.
Without having to reconcile her son's humanity with his ghostlyness, Maddie was free to revert back to a lifetime of thinking that all ghosts were nonsentient. She probably didn't get enough of a chance to being to change her views permanently, so she sees nothing wrong with how she's treating the leashed ghosts.
And Danny himself would even have an excuse for his suit. I've seen in the fandom that the reason Danny is such a strong ghost is because he's young, and he's still growing. That the more he ages, the stronger he becomes. When Danny died, he would have stopped growing in power. Heck, he might have even started -losing- power, and trying to revert to how strong he was when he first "died" in the accident. Having a suit that runs on other ghosts, using their power to replace his own, would actually make sense, especially if Maddie helped make it.

How Sweetgreen Got to $1 Billion
The rumors started a few weeks back: Sweetgreen, the chain that dishes out kale caesar salads and quinoa-filled bowls to sad desk lunch crowds, was worth $1 billion. With the average Sweetgreen salad bowl clocking in between $9 and $14, that’s a lot of, er, green. “I mean, it’s insane,” says restaurant investor Elaine Chon-Baker of Mokja Ventures of the brand’s “unicorn” status — a distinction given to privately held start-up companies that reach a $1 billion market value. “These unicorn valuations are happening so often, everyone just shakes their head at it. It reminds me of what happened with the dot com bust in 2001.”
With investors chasing the next Shake Shack, companies like Sweetgreen (which has 90 locations) and Joe & the Juice (with nearly 300 locations and plans for a $1.5 billion IPO in 2019) seem to be rushing into high valuations just to drum up buzz. But how did Sweetgreen, a relatively small chain known for serving vegetables in oddly shaped bowls, become the first real restaurant unicorn?
“They’ve built almost more of a social, political, cultural brand versus a fast-food occasion.”
Sweetgreen started life 11 years ago as a small restaurant in D.C. founded by three recent Georgetown University graduates, Nicolas Jammet, Nathaniel Ru, and Jonathan Neman. To date, Sweetgreen has collected $325 million from investors including Revolution Growth and Shake Shack founder Danny Meyer. The salad chain doesn’t talk about its financial health publicly, but confirmed that it is turning a profit. “The business is very healthy economically,” Jammet told Eater in early October, before the most recent raise. Sweetgreen’s $1 billion valuation comes after Fidelity Investments, one of the world’s largest asset management companies, poured another $200 million into the chain’s bank account.
Sweetgreen wasn’t the first concept to offer a customizable salad menu, but it was the first to understand how to cultivate loyalty — by reaching its target audience outside of the restaurant. Four years into its run, with only a handful of locations open on the East Coast, the brand launched a music festival: Sweetlife kicked off in 2011 with the Strokes, Girl Talk, and Lupe Fiasco headlining. Phoenix, Lana Del Rey, and the Weeknd hit the fest in subsequent years, generating an enormous amount of attention — on social media and in real life — for what was otherwise just another farm-to-table concept in an ocean of farm-to-table concepts. (Sweetlife ended its marquee run in 2016, but continues to host smaller shows.)
In between its annual festivals, the group collected over $100 million in venture capitalist funding, expanded to the West Coast and Chicago, partnered with high-profile chefs for seasonal menu items, solidified its partnerships with independent farmers, and launched an order-ahead app. A sign of its influence? Sweetgreen has over 170,000 followers on Instagram. By contrast, the internationally reaching Shake Shack has over 500,000 fans on Instagram while competitors like Chopt (44k) and Just Salad (21k) don’t have nearly the same level of engagement.
“Sweetgreen understands the power of great storytelling: the story of how they started, the story of each menu item,” Chon-Baker says. “A lot of great concepts have really great stories behind them. Apple. McDonald’s. Shake Shack. These companies have amazing branding and marketing.” The key element is consistency, and Chon-Baker notes that Sweetgreen’s social media presence has been “a huge driver… People are always looking for visual cues. [Social media] really created this pattern of looking at food as art or food as an image versus just food as nourishment.”
A large part of Sweetgreen’s image is about selling the idea of nourishment. The company has long projected an image of health, wellness, and sustainable farm and labor practices. Its marketing language uses phrases like “real food should be convenient and accessible to everyone,” “food from scratch, using fresh ingredients and produce delivered that morning.” Its stated mission is to “build healthier communities by connecting people to real food.” Lofty, but not flimsy, it’s real enough to appeal to Sweetgreen’s core audience: young professionals with disposable income who are likely to ask a lot of questions about where their food comes from, and why. Perhaps no other fast-casual brand on the market is so well-aligned with its consumers.
This alignment coincided recently with a cult-like gathering at chef Dan Barber’s four-star Blue Hill at Stone Barns. Over 100 Sweetgreen fans and partners were invited to what one guest called “a wedding, but celebrating a very special squash.” There was a photographer, there was a Spotify playlist, there were several toasts, there was a live band. The four-course meal honored Sweetgreen’s triumphs in promoting sustainable farming practices, and its new collaboration with Barber’s Row 7 seed company, which develops seeds for produce with an emphasis on flavor. Last year, Sweetgreen bought Row 7 seeds for a squash called Koginut, which looks a little like if a butternut and acorn squash had a baby. Sweetgreen then gifted the seeds to its farming partners across the country — including SoCal chef-favorite Weiser Family Farms — asked them to grow it, and promised to buy the resulting produce. As of this month, Koginut squash is on Sweetgreen’s menu nationwide, served roasted with fennel, pears, basil, goat cheese, walnuts, wild rice, and a lemon-balsamic dressing for $11.

“This is a major first for us,” Jammet says of the Koginut partnership. “It’s a first for Row 7, and for our farmers, and we’re going to see how it sells, but we have a good feeling about it,” he told Eater just before the launch. Halfway through into its first month on the menu, Sweetgreen’s demographic of upwardly mobile and influential fans are literally eating it up.
“They use this phrase a lot: ‘Democratizing food,’ which is so unique in the food space,” says restaurant consultant Judge Graham. “They’ve built almost more of a social, political, cultural brand versus a fast-food occasion.”
But even that’s not enough to get Sweetgreen to $1 billion, says Jenifer Ekstein, a senior consultant at Vivaldi. “What holds so much potential is turning a fast-casual restaurant into a food platform,” she says. “Sweetgreen looks beyond just the food they serve — it’s about how they can create an entire food ecosystem that reaches their customers in ways personalized to them.”
“They’re doing something that a fast-food company has never really been done before,” Graham says. “How they’re approaching their customers, how they’re selling it, how they’re using technology, how they’re positioning it… It’s almost a tech company.”
Sweetgreen’s app, which 1 million people across the U.S. use, brings in a full 50 percent of the chain’s business today, and that’s only expected to grow. The company also pioneered use of blockchain technology for its supply chain, which means it has systems in place that trace each fruit and vegetable from farm to consumer. With its new influx of cash, it plans on growing its Outpost concept, in which deliveries to office buildings are free. It also plans to expand into new markets, drawing more users to its app.
And that means one thing: data. “With their technology infrastructure they are able to collect mountains of data,” Ekstein says. That data is valuable for the company’s marketing, menu development, and expansion purposes, but it might become even more valuable in the future. (Jammet promises the company is only using the data for good.) “We are big believers in leveraging data to create a better experience for the customer, the team member, everything,” he says. “We like to make a lot of our decisions on the foundation of data... it’s always art and science. The data we collect informs how our menu evolves, it informs the efficiency of our SKUs and eventually what we buy from our farmers. For the past year and a half, we’ve been testing this larger blockchain of food.” This, Jammet says, has become a “massively powerful” tool for food safety, for “traceability.” (See also: Chipotle.)
Ekstein believes that because Sweetgreen started small and “took calculated, purposeful steps to create a strong brand,” they can “ultimately disrupt the long stagnant food industry.” But that $1 billion valuation is just a number.
Graham says when small companies throw around big numbers it’s a sign that “they’re positioning to get sold. 100%. That’s what my gut tells me.” In an interesting twist, he says that “the fact that they’re so technology and delivery focused, and they have this cultural spin, this would be such a perfect brand for somebody like Amazon to purchase.”
Whether or not Jeff Bezos would put down $1 billion of his pocket change to get into the restaurant business remains to be seen. Sale or no sale, Chon-Baker doubts salad alone will be enough to propel the company forward. It’s a good thing Sweetgreen also plans to use some of its new cash to expand its menu — and maybe they’ll tone down the whole farm-to-table schtick. “I mean, of course it’s ‘farm-to-table,’” Chon-Baker says with a laugh. “It’s lettuce.”
