ive literally been spinning these in my head for wayyyy too long, theyre half based on the show and half straight up just my hcs which are based on some of my own stims and i needed to share them SO:

Steven

it is literally canon that steven fiddles with his hands and sleeves, doing things like wringing his hands back and forth and just generally having a lot of little hands stims (i literally have reblogged gifs of his hand stims before)

i think he also fiddles with and runs his hands over different things, like different fabrics, to feel the texture of it (which is partially canon due to the scene in the Duat where hes running his hand over the pile of towels)

he also rubs the bottom of his sleeves and his shirts in-between his fingers to feel it! idk i just think hes a very texture stim sort of guy i think he loves feeling textures

pressure stims!!!!! he literally has this recurring motion that he does in the show where he holds his hands to his chest and i think he likes pressing down in a sort of half-hug motion to himself! i also think he sort of rubs over his heart when he does this sometimes

FIDGET TOY KING!!!! LITERALLY CANON!!!!! I think he has just more than the rubiks cube, i feel like he has other sorts of stim puzzles, maybe a fidget cube, things like that (i also think he would get really attached to those articulated stim toys that look like animals)

he would probably also make a lot of stim toys out of different objects, if you give him pretty much any object he will find a way to stim with it somehow

i feel like he definitely rocks back and forth, but it isn't very intense a lot of the time? it is more of a gentle sway, but he does it very often, especially when hes just standing still waiting for something

absolutely 100% a hand flapper, specifically up and down because he doesn't like the way that his fingers hit each other when he flaps his hands left to right

SOUND STIMS SOUND STIMS i think jake is such a sound stims guy

hes definitely big on whistling and humming, and makes a lot of little clicking and popping sounds with his mouth

he clicks his fingers a lot as well and moves his hand around while he does it so that the sound hits his ears in different ways (like a bat yknow? echolocation and all that)

loves to crack his knuckles for the sound and the feel, but has to shake his hands out a bit afterwards usually because they feel weird sometimes

he definitely has a stim where he taps the backs of his one hand with his other hand when hes wearing his gloves, because he loves the sound that his gloves make tapping against each other

he used to have a stim where he would drag his toe across the ground in shoes to make his leg bounce but then he would have to buy new shoes cause the toes would wear out so he does it less now

instead he rubs his shoes, specifically the toes, back and forth on the ground, specifically if hes sitting down and happens to have both of his feet on the floor

CHEWS ON FUCKING EVERYTHING if it can be chewed on, even if it shouldnt be chewed on, i guarentee he is chewing on it. i mean pencils i mean pencaps i mean zipper pulls i mean Anything-

he usually tries to have something edible to chew on at all times with him, usually some sort of hard candy, and he also has a chewing necklace that he wears a lot at the flat, and sometimes under his jacket if he feels like he'll need it when hes out and about

i feel like marc has a lot more subtle stims (hello masking!), unless hes around people he trusts

he definitely has a chewing stim, but specifically softer things like fabric and soft chewing necklaces

he bites on the edges of his sleeves when he is at the flat, specifically when he is thinking, or blankets and pillows if hes overwhelmed

if he not at the flat he usually just grinds his teeth if he has the need to chew on something, he constantly has jaw aches because of it

he rubs his hands and his knuckles over his thighs a lot and taps his fingers on his legs

i definitely think he clenches his fists over and over again before stretching his hands out like he wants to flap his hands but is too tense, especially in public

when he starts to unmask more he definitely does a lot of hand flapping mixed in with gesturing as he talks

he also cracks his knuckles and his wrists out repeatedly both for the sound and the feeling of it, he does it a lot when hes out of the flat

he also has a stim where he rolls his shoulders back and stretches out his neck? he isn't quite sure if it really is a stim but he does it for the same reasons that he does all of his other stims so it counts

i also think he rocks up onto the balls of his feet a lot and back down, mixed with a bit of rocking? this feels like one that he only really does when hes comfortable with who hes with

JUMPING!!!!!! THIS IS LITERALLY CANON!!!! he jumps up and down and tucks his legs up when he does to get more height and i think that he does it when hes really excited about something

"Mr Normal" a post on Masking

Anyone remember that SpongeBob episode "Mr Normal"? Well, after watching it again with one of our littles, I have some thoughts.

Basic synopsis: SpongeBob, wanting to be liked by Squidward asks him how to be normal, is given a VHS tape, and spends the first half of the episode becoming normal (creating RoundBob). He loses his job at the Krusty Krab, loses Patrick and then is kicked out of Squidward's house. He relearns to be his real self as the episode comes to a close.

Our little asked if should do that - and become normal.

Looking back on the experience of my system, this story, of losing yourself for others is one that many of us relate to, and many outcasts, edge walkers and weirdos may relate to too.

SpongeBob is fueled by a desire to be normal, to feel accepted, and ultimately to be loved by Squidward - in doing so, he tries on a persona of normality, that eventually becomes his entire personality. He loses himself for others.

I know many neurodivergent people understand this. Especially those who were not diagnosed in early childhood. Growing up feeling like something is wrong with you, to eventually try changing little parts of yourself to please others, to masking your entire true personality to fit in is an experience that many, many neurodivergent people relate to.

But this story holds hope.

SpongeBob finds himself again. He relearns how to be genuine. He relearns his previous personality and finds the joy in being himself that he slowly returns to his spongy self. So to my autists, ADHDers, loners, weirdos and outcasts who masks parts of themselves to please others I challenge you to do something for the self before you started hiding things; chip away at that forced normalisation somehow, and find the messy self underneath all the conditioning.

Try being weird. Intentionally. Be kids again, or let yourself be a child for the first time. You're allowed not to be a professional adult all the time (none of us are), even if it's something little your younger self would have loved. Try not to let the persona you put on become your identity, and if it has become how you view yourself...

Try to be a little silly now and then 💜

The song "Other Friends" from the Steven Universe movie gave me inspiration for a villain arc for one of my Pokemon OCs, and the Mochi Mayhem epilogue of the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC gave me a situation where he would actually have a villain arc in the first place without wrecking all my other plans for the characters lol

The gist of the situation is that Daniel (pictured above) gets toxic-chained by Pecharunt due to his being a Ditto-hybrid and Pecharunt's whole deal with creating retainers for itself, and while Pecharunt's mind control is at play up until Pecharunt is caught, the important element here is more connected to Pecharunt's ability to increase people's greed (so still sorta mind control but less direct), which stays in play because the chain doesn't disappear when Pecharunt is caught.

The amplification of greed mixed with Pecharunt's own desperation for attention feeds into his insecurities about one of the few friends he has making friends with so many other people, and manifests as wanting to be her ONLY friend so that she won't abandon him by getting closer to other friends than him. So, having access to substantial abilities and said friend's appearance due to being a shapeshifter, he goes and tries to wreck her relationships while she's frantically trying to chase him down (through different dimensions might I add) and get the chain off.

19 years ago today one of the greatest episodes of anything ever was aired.

I made. An au based off a personal story concept I have! The basic gist of the story itself is that after a catastrophic global event (basically the Cold War ending because someone exploded a nuclear warhead in the ocean which terrified everyone and caused an intense amount of radiation poisoning) some people started being born with odd growths on their brains. These growths cause a disorder called Michelle's Disease or Songkindism. The disorder itself means that everyone effected is tied to a song (the song doesn't have to exist yet, don't have lore for that so just bear with me) and thus they have a defect based on said song. The defect can by physical (something on your body changes, you have weird things inside your body), internal (usually magic adjacent) or both. Songkindism usually manifests around age 11, no one is quite sure why but it's theorized it's tied to puberty. In this world every child must get screened for Songkindism, and if they are found to have it they are sent to a facility to be studied.

In this au, a few things change. The inciting incident instead happens in World War 2, and the odd extra part of the brain was found way earlier. The inciting incident is also tied to the creation of the Doppler, who are theorized to all be attached to one song which is a VERY rare occurrence. Your neighbors are songbound who were allowed to leave their facility to experiment on how Doppler react to other snowbound in their environment, and also just to see if they can live normal lives. Below is each character and their song and defect. If people like this I may do more with it!

Roman: Song: Starman (David Bowie) Defect: Made of stardust, if you breathe it in it causes a surge of hope in you. 

Lois: Song: Killer Queen (Queen) Defect: High charisma, can levitate anything dangerous/that can be made dangerous 

Albertsky:  Song: Burn It Down (The Cog is Dead)  Defect: Can burn things with hands, exceptional strength. 

Robertsky:  Song: Ragtime Punk (Abney Park) Defect: Able to see the past with perfect clarity. 

Angus: Song: Mind Brand (MARETU) Defect: Knows everyone's secrets by just looking at them. 

Selenne: Song: Mowgli's Road (MARINA) Defect: Made of plants/covered in plants, is constantly in a state of desperation though she is unsure why. 

Elenois: Song: Hermit the Frog (MARINA) Defect: Made of glass (can see organs), is constantly in a state of rage, but she’s not sure why.

Gloria: Song: Cara Mia Addio (Portal) Defect: Eyes glow, she can calm anyone down by being in the room, though nobody can pinpoint it’s her. 

Arnold: Song: 100 Years (Or3o) Defect: If he likes/is crushing/is in love with someone and they are songbound, the lyrics of their song appear on his body. 

Izaack: Song: Touch Tone Telephone (Lemon Demon) Defect: He can stick pins into himself, and when it has information attached to it he can permanently perfectly recall that information. 

Margarette:  Song: Dream Sweet in Sea Major (Miracle Musical) Defect: Moon eyes, can “wash away” things but you have to work with her.

Nacha: Song: Decepticon (La Tigre) Defect: She’s made of metal and can explode herself at will. Exploding herself has no negative consequences on her. 

Anastacha: Song: Brass Goggles (Steam Powered Giraffe) Defect: She is a robot. Like that’s it she’s a robot. 

Dr. Afton: Song: Browser History Defect: ???? (Defect hides itself)

Mia: Song: Whose Eye is it Anyways??? (Jhariah) Defect: Gave her eye for knowledge. She can see through any facade and always know the truth, but she is still missing an eye. 

Francis: Song: There's No Love in February (The Orion Experience) Defect: The sadder he is, the more he freezes over. 

Steven: Song: Toes (Glass Animals) Defect: Can steal people's aggression/anger and give it to himself. 

Mclooy:  Song: The Boys are Back in Town (To Kill You) (Jerryterry) Defect: Goes crazy when he smells blood, like a shark.

Alf:  Song: The Haunted Phonograph (Thoushaltnot) Defect: Record effect over his voice, and can steal your soul and put it on the record in his stomach area.

Rafttellyn:  Song: Girl With One Eye (Florence+ The Machine) Defect: Rotting from the inside once someone steals her eye. Stealing her eye usually requires her making a mistake and it becoming loose from her guilt. She currently only has one eye. 

Arcade Clown/Mono: Song: Devil’s Train (The Lab Rats) Defect: Can just kinda. Summon a ghost train. Hands out tickets instead of papers.

Mask Ghost/Julia: Song: A Crow’s Trial (Vane Lily) Defect: More bird-like (feathered arms, bird like hands and feet, wing-like appendages), and her mask looks too tight and like it hurts. Like an iron maiden.
