A reminder that your local student encampments probably need supplies like: blankets, toilet paper, power banks, face masks, canned food, medical supplies, tents, sleeping bags, old mattresses, flashlights, etc.
They may have posted lists of things they need on social media and will appreciate any contributions you could make!
There are many ways to help the cause and external support is needed with protests like these so if you have anything laying around the house that you could donate please consider doing so!

Student protestors were just brutalized by the police here at Wayne State University in Detroit during and after the police swept the encampment
They arrested female students and one student’s hijab was ripped off.
President Espy at Wayne State University was invited to speak with students yesterday at 6pm. She sent the police to brutalize us at 530am the next morning instead.
Wayne State University has a large Arab student population, and Detroit and Dearborn are home to the largest Arab population in the United States. This is just after the weekend the People’s Conference for Palestine was hosted here.
I’m so angry.

Organizers of a pro-Palestinian protest encampment at the University of Toronto say the university is ignoring their demands and instead focusing on the logistics of the demonstration.
Erin Mackey, one of the spokespeople for the protesters, says university administrators are giving them "the runaround" by discussing sanitation and other issues related to the encampment but are "not addressing the core issue."
Demonstrators have been calling on the university to disclose ties with the Israeli government and divest from Israeli companies.

by By Esha Karam, Shea Vance, and Sarah Huddleston Interim University President Katrina Armstrong apologized in her first interview with Spectator on Tuesday to those who were “hurt” by the New York Police Department’s April sweeps of the “Gaza Solidarity Encampment” and occupied Hamilton Hall, during which police made over 200 arrests. Spectator asked Armstrong whether she agreed with former University President Minouche Shafik’s decision to authorize the NYPD to enter campus twice, which resulted in the largest mass arrests at Columbia since the University’s protests on campus in 1968. “I know that this is tricky for me to say, but I do understand that I sit in this job, right. And so if you could just let everybody know who was hurt by that, that I’m just incredibly sorry,” Armstrong said. “And I know it wasn’t me, but I’m really sorry. … I saw it, and I’m really sorry.” The University faced intense criticism from students, faculty, politicians, and free speech organizations following the April 18 sweep of the “Gaza Solidarity Encampment,” which Shafik authorized less than two days after protesters pitched tents on South Lawn. NYPD Chief of Patrol John Chell said during a press conference following the arrests that “the students that were arrested were peaceful” and “offered no resistance whatsoever.” Less than two weeks later, police used electric saws, stun grenades, and other tactical gear to sweep Hamilton 22 hours after protesters occupied the building on April 30. Officers pushed protesters to the ground, slammed them with metal barricades, and threw one individual down the stairs outside Hamilton, according to videos reviewed by Spectator. One officer accidentally fired a gun inside the building. In a May 3 video posted to Instagram, Shafik acknowledged the “Gaza Solidarity Encampment” and Hamilton occupation, though she did not directly comment on the arrests. The Instagram post quickly garnered thousands of comments, most of them negative. Echoing her previous messages, Armstrong emphasized in the Tuesday interview her commitment to ensuring a balance between freedom of expression and the University’s academic mission. Armstrong announced updates to the University’s procedures for handling protests in a Sept. 5 email to the Columbia community, pointing to the Rules of University Conduct as the policy governing on-campus demonstrations. “As we face anything, we have to be very committed to the principles, and our principles are our students and are enabling an environment where people can have freedom of expression, and we support debate, and we do those things,” Armstrong said. “We have to be committed to our principles in terms of ensuring that our academic activities can continue. And so I think we have to be very clear about that, because that’s the commitment I made to our students and to our professors.” Armstrong, who assumed office on Aug. 14 following Shafik’s sudden resignation, underscored the importance of working with the community to “keep this campus peaceful, safe.” “I want to just say, I see the harm that happened,” Armstrong said. “And I am deeply committed that I work with all of you, I work with all of the community to both address that harm and to understand.”
Notice she doesn't mention Jewish students. Look for things to get worse at Columbia.

Repost from @harvxrdpsc
BREAKING: Harvard has violated its agreement with student protestors. This betrayal will prevent 12 students from graduating and place 28 on probation or suspension.
In the agreement reached to end the HOOP encampment, Garber promised to encourage Ad Boards to follow “existing precedent”. For other similar student protests, precedent is dropping charges and refraining from imposing severe consequences. This was the outcome for student organizers in the South Africa Apartheid encampment, Living Wage occupation of Mass Hall, Fossil Fuel divestment blockades, and Belinda Hall occupation.
The precedent is clear: drop the charges and do not heavily discipline students for calling for disclosure and divestment.
If the Ad Board won’t follow these precedents, they are failing to live up to Garber’s promise. If Harvard won’t live up to their promises, we see no reason to live up to ours.

I am ashamed of my country. I am ashamed of my government, the police and these hateful counter protesters, all of whom have grown up/live in the same country and speak the same language as I do.
This is about an hour drive away from me, I want to help them so bad but I do not have the resources nor anyone to go with for safety.
So I will do whatever I can online, and in my closest circle.
We will never give up.
Free Palestine 🇵🇸
Liberation for all.

Het was er gisteren dodenherdenking en gister godverdomme bevrijdingsdag waar hebben we het over?! Tf

feel like i haven't been seeing a ton of updates on the student encampments on my dash, so here's some:
breaking news (as of may 1st 2024): nyc police have used force to arrest and remove columbia protestors, and zionists have violently attacked UCLA's encampment.
just from looking at the news tab for student encampments and scanning the names: there are encampments at UCLA, University of Florida, Harvard, UChicago, Tufts, Tulane, UT-Austin, UPenn, Swarthmore, Bryn Mawr, UW-Miwaukee and Madison, University of Illinois, University of Minnesota, University of Washington, DePaul, George Washington University, University of Utah, and University of Ottawa. also: MIT, Emerson, NYU, and UNC-Chapel Hill (although that last was recently violently cleared by police, who arrested numerous students, though they were largely released after being cited for trespassing. UT Austin has also had arrests and detainments, and students are still in jail.)
brown has successfully reached an agreement! the college has agreed to put a divestment resolution up for vote at the financial meeting, and agreed that students who participated in the encampment will not be subject to severe disciplinary responses like suspension or expulsion.
evergreen has successfully reached an agreement as well! evergreen college is divesting from israel, ending study abroad to occupied palestine, and adding resources/personnel to respond to medical emergencies instead of police!
as many encampments begin to move into the seventh or eighth days of presence, many colleges and universities are beginning to take the protests more seriously and threaten suspensions, expulsions, or even police violence. in light of both the news at columbia and at brown, i hope that they can see that enacting violence against the student protestors will put them firmly on the wrong side of history, and that it'll be much better for them if they meet our demands.
oh, also: jvp and sjp have called for a strike on may 1st, as it is international worker's day, in solidarity with palestine. in light of this, many students are not attending class.

Via theeuropeancorrespondent:
"Following pro-Palestine university encampments in the US, over 90 universities in Europe have also joined campus occupations. Protestors are demanding their institutions disclose and break ties with Israeli universities.
Meanwhile, no functioning universities are left in Gaza, as all 12 major universities have been destroyed. While some protests in Europe were met with violence like the encampment at the University of Amsterdam, others have stopped their demonstrations after demands were met. Our research shows that police violence resulting in physical injuries was reported in at least 5 universities across Europe.
On a different note, Trinity University in Dublin and Goldsmiths in London have agreed to the academic boycott, and the rising number of Spanish encampments has led to over 75 educational institutions in the country cutting and revising ties with Israeli universities.

Amsterdam Encampment: Yesteday, we “escorted” police out of our camp. ✊We are reclaiming our spaces and holding entrenched power accountable to extremely reasonable demands.✊ Escorting police off campus isn’t just about our safety. It’s a stand against UvA’s complicity in g3nocide. 🇵🇸 By rejecting police presence, we reject UvA’s role in oppression and violenc3. 🇵🇸 We demand ALL cops off of ALL campuses.

too many people are clutching their pearls about the columbia university encampment statement saying they don't like the us and not enough people are thinking about how they said they want to continue the "successes" of the "palestinian resistance" and bring those into the us. what successes would that be, that temporally align with your encampment, may i ask. would it be the nova massacre by chance. shall we discuss how this statement was released three days after the bodies of hersh goldberg-polin (23), eden yerushalmi (24), ori danino (25), almog sarusi (27), alexander lobanov (33), and carmel gat (40) were recovered after having recently been murdered

Letter to my Alma Mater
I have just emailed this to the university where I did my undergraduate degree. Vice Chancellor, Deputy Vice Chancellor, and Pro Vice Chancellors, As an alumna of the University of Lancaster, I am very disappointed to learn that the University has links with BAE Systems, which produces weapons such as the F-35 and F-15 fighter jets. Since 2016, 15% of every fighter jet sent to Israel has been…

they rant and rave about anti-semitism (aka anti-zionism and being against genocide) meanwhile neo-nazi rallies regularly take place in the u.s. without interference or punishment and cops (significantly comprised of both neo-nazis and domestic abusers) violently suppress and brutalize peaceful anti-genocide protestors (many of whom are jewish!). but they are truly just so concerned about anti-semitism and the safety of jews !!
