okay hi! i have a really old editing tutorial from back in january that i've been linking people to, but it's pretty outdated by now. i also keep getting anons asking about the same things, which is fine, but i always have to go searching for the post explaining it, so having it all in one place will be a lot more convenient lol

i use a ☠ copy of photoshop cc 2017 to edit my screenshots, however the majority of everything i'm doing also works on photopea

photopea is an online version of photoshop that's 100% free and works very well! i can't recommend it enough, it's fantastic

first things first, you're going to need some screenshots to edit. for the sake of this tutorial i'll be working with this one of raffy:

in all honesty, gshade will do most of the work for you. of course it's not needed, but i definitely don't think i could live without it! in this screenshot i used sunset n' vinyl by nesurii

when opening the screenshot, the first thing i do is run it through 2 photoshop actions:

butter action by early-grape

smooth sharp (no topaz) by poolbrop

to add actions in photoshop go:

windows > actions > the 4 lines at the upper right corner of the newly opened window > load actions > your downloads folder > open up the .atn files!

if you're using photopea, as far as i'm aware you can't use photoshop actions, but i've found that 'filter > stylize > oil paint' and 'filter > sharpen > smart sharpen' have a very similar effect when using the right settings. try these:

i like these two actions because they smooth everything out nicely, but keep it sharp at the same time! i always run butter before i run smooth sharp, however butter may leave you with 2 layers. make sure to merge these layers before running smooth sharp to achieve the full effect.

from here you can move on to step 2

before anything else i want to share the template that i use to make editing a lot faster. you don't need to use it but it's definitely made things a lot easier for me! it's a .psd file and will work perfectly in photopea

if you're using the template you can skip right on to the next section, as it's already cropped to the right size and has the colouring folder included. just drag your screenshot into it and resize to fit the height.

if you're not using it, crop your edited screenshot to:

1707 width x 1280 height

then adjust the colours to your liking. it always varies slightly depending on the picture but my regular process for each screenshot would be:

up the saturation by 8%

up the lightness by 3%

up the contrast by 12%

all of this can be done by looking in the 'images > adjustments' tab

you should end up with something similar to this!

if you want to add a moodlet or social interaction or anything similar, it's all the same process. what you'll need is a screenshot of it straight from the game. i just press the 'c' key to capture them! i'll be working with these two:

for the blue notification i'm going to select it using the box select tool. try to get it as exact as possible. one you have it selected

for photoshop users:

click on the 'select and mask...' option located at the top

adjust the global refinements at the side as follows:

smooth: 70 feather: 0.0px contrast: 50% shift edge: 0%

for photopea users:

go to select > modify > smooth

set it to 15

select 'ok' and press 'ctrl + c' to copy it, then 'ctrl + v' to paste it into your screenshot. adjust the size and position and you should end up with something like this:

next you want to add the transparent border around the notification. if you're using my editing template, right click on the reference notif in the layers tab and select 'copy layer style' (photopea > 'layer style > copy'). from there you can paste that layer style onto your own notif through the layers tab.

if you're not using the template, here's how to set it up on photoshop:

right click your notification layer and select 'blending options'

under styles, tick the checkboxes for stroke and drop shadow

input these settings:

on photopea, it should be more or less the same. repeat the exact same process with the social menu option, but instead of selecting it with the box select tool, use the magic select tool. in the end you should end out with this!

10: Night in the Woods (2017)

Peak fall vibes game. Night in the Woods features a compelling mystery and some great spooky moments. The setting and characters really resonated with me, so I got a lot out of it.

9: The Pedestrian (2020)

Pleasant puzzle game inspired by the signage that surrounds us in our day-to-day lives. Some of the puzzles were quite difficult, and I kind of dislike the direction the game took in its last act, but it was still a very fun and unique experience.

8: South of South Mountain (2022)

Cute & hilarious visual novel with a fantastic art style. I could not stop laughing throughout the whole experience.

7: Portal Reloaded (2021)

From a pure gameplay standpoint, this was a very satisfying sequel to Portal 2, and it's possibly the closest we'll ever get to a Portal 3. Portal Reloaded introduces a third portal which allows you to travel to the same place at a different time, so certain things have been moved/removed. It gets really complicated, and I’m amazed this was able to be created as a free standalone mod for Portal 2.

6: Frog Detective: The Entire Mystery (2022)

Approximately 3-4 hours of pure, unadulterated joy and whimsy. I can’t believe it took me this long to play Frog Detective, but I’m so glad I did. Everything about these games resonated with me strongly.

5: OneShot (2016)

A transcendent experience. Explores the unique ways in which video games can tell stories, and the nature of free will. Features some interesting meta game mechanics which require you to interact with files outside of the game. The visuals and soundtrack are spot-on as well. Weird how there’s so many great RPG Maker games which work so well in spite of the engine.

4: Scorn (2022)

An incredible audiovisual experience. I liked the gameplay too, even though it seems like a lot of people were disappointed by it. I'm amazed that a game like this even exists. Absolutely oozing with atmosphere and symbolic meaning. The story spoke to me on an incredibly deep level despite lacking words, or even any semblance of humanity.

3: What Remains of Edith Finch (2017)

One of the greatest games ever made. All of the vignettes and set-pieces throughout the game are flawlessly paced, with a wide variety of gameplay and visual styles. Packed with detail, made with love, and so emotionally resonant. I loved this game.

For years, I would try to play Bloodborne whenever I had access to a PlayStation 4, but I wasn’t able to do a full playthrough until 2022. It lived up to the hype. This is my favorite From Software game, and it’s already one of my favorite games of all time. I really hope this gets a remaster/PC port some day. It’s a masterpiece.

One of the greatest horror games I’ve ever played. Amazing visuals and atmosphere, fascinating world and lore, and a captivating, mind-blowing cosmic horror sci-fi story. I especially loved the evocative UI designs throughout. Highly recommended if you like Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Dead Space, PS1 style games in general, or if you have even a passing interest in survival horror. This is my #1 game of 2022.

Actress and Author, Lara Parker, of Dark Shadows, Passes at 84

Lara Parker, who found the role of a lifetime at just 28 years old when she was cast by Dark Shadows producer Dan Curtis as the beautiful, vengeful and altogether evil witch Angelique Bouchard Collins, died October 12 in her sleep in Los Angeles following a battle with cancer. She was 84.

Her death was announced by producer Jim Pierson of Dan Curtis Productions, on behalf of Parker’s family.

“I’m heartbroken, as all of us are who knew and loved her,” said her Dark Shadows co-star and longtime friend Kathryn Leigh Scott in a statement. “She graced our lives with her beauty, talent and friendship, and we are all richer for having had her in our lives.”

Parker was born Mary Lamar Rickey on Oct. 27, 1938, in Knoxville, Tennessee. Her father, Albert, was an attorney, and her mother, Ann, was active in civic groups.

She graduated from Central High School in Memphis and attended Vassar — she roomed with Jane Fonda there — and Rhodes College in Memphis, where at 19 she served as Wink Martindale’s assistant on his WHBQ-TV show, Dance Party. She then earned a master’s degree from the University of Iowa.

Parker, who also authored four popular Dark Shadows-related novels from 1998-2016, arrived on the supernatural soap opera in 1967, not long after Canadian actor Jonathan Frid had been cast as vampire Barnabas Collins. Frid’s storyline changed the show from a moody, Gothic Jane Eyre-type serial into a flat-out horror show.

During breaks in production, Parker acted on Broadway in September 1968 in Woman Is My Idea, which lasted just five performances, and in the early Brian De Palma film Hi, Mom! (1970), starring Robert De Niro.

And toward the end of the daytime serial, she and fellow castmembers including John Karlen, Kate Jackson, David Selby and Grayson Hall appeared in the poorly received MGM film Night of Dark Shadows (1971).

In 1972, Parker relocated to Los Angeles and went on to appear on episodes of such shows as Medical Center, Kojak, The Rockford Files, Police Woman, Kolchak: The Night Stalker (as a witch) and The Incredible Hulk, where she played David Banner’s first wife in a flashback sequence in the pilot.

In her later years, Parker turned to writing and teaching — her novels include Angelique’s Descent (1998), The Salem Branch (2006), Wolf Moon Rising (2013) and Heiress of Collinwood (2016). The books proved popular among Dark Shadows‘ still-devoted, conventions-attending fan base, as well as devotees of romance and horror genre novels.

Parker kept in touch with her co-stars including Scott, Selby, Roger Davis, the late John Karlen and others throughout her life, particularly once the conventions became annual events in the late 1980s through the 1990s and up to the 50th anniversary celebration in 2017.

Many of the original cast, including Parker, recorded a series of Dark Shadows audio dramas in the 2000s released by Big Finish Productions. They also reunited for a “Smartphone Theatre” Zoom-style, Covid-era performance of A Christmas Carol in 2021 and, on Halloween night 2020, a YouTube/Zoom Dark Shadows cast reunion.

Parker is survived by second husband Jim Hawkins, daughter Caitlin, sons Rick and Andy, and their wives Miranda and Celia; and grandson Wesley.

Today I want to show you world that was made almost 6 years ago, and has been pretty forgotten by now. This world is called Mandora and it’s mild exotic island made by GreenPhoenix. It wasn’t fully released as an alpha, but was in the making in 2017 and was released as beta, for testing. For me it looks like finished, and since download is still publicly available, I decided to remind about this gem. This world come with a save file, so it’s populated.

To download, you need to go to *this thread* at ModTheSims, scroll down to post #18 written by GreenPhoenix, and at the end of this post you’ll see attached files of world and save file.

This world requires all expansion packs except for Supernatural. From Stuff Packs it uses Outdor Living Stuff and Town Life Stuff. No store or CC as far as I know. All other information you can find in thread linked above.

I encourage to leave original water color, at least for first time, because world looks really pretty with it.

This is town centre and first district of houses (more towards bottom)

It has nice cafe and arcade.

You can also find this nice little park with playground and fishing spot.

And alley with houses that looks kind of exotic (?) I guess. Most of them have one color as a scheme, for both interiors and outside. They’re covered in corrugated sheet.

Second district is more towards middle of island. It’s heavy brick and industrialized area. Though very clean and chic in that matter.

It has apartments too!

and cute little coffehouse. You’ll find a surprise in basement, lol.

Driving towards other edge of island, you’ll find swamp area and farm district.

Houses in farm area are very detailed and well made.

They have even sloped roofs with beams and wood textures. Debug lights were used on outside to light the whole building evenly.

On top of island there’s area with more suburban and regular style of houses. I would say the most neutral ones. Seems spacious and good for big families.

And on this flat peninsula bellow you’ll find futuristic houses. Also rainbow colored. These seems more expensive ones.

Recently I was also wondering, that since most colors are segregated and prescribed for certain houses, this world would be good for Not So Berry Challenge.

There are also multiple houseboats closer to the centre. In one of them lives a lady who loves lilac color and animal prints, so some interiors despite one color or one shade, are very characteristic.

and the creator didn’t forget about diving places either! So definitely a good choice if you’re looking for light substitute of Isla Paradiso. For sure it is less laggy.

Around 2017, when I had first time Mandora in my game, I felt like this town lacks of certain spontaneity and crazyness, but now I see I just wasn’t paying attencion to details. Usually exotic worlds attacks you with dense jungle or orgy of colors and patterns, but this one seems more calm, orderly, and tidy. I think it’s cool we have now something made in that way.

I was lurking on MTS while this world was in making, but had problems with my account and finally didn’t write anything there. It’s specific site, and I felt unmeritoric comments wouldn’t be welcomed in world making section. Though I felt like I should at least somehow cheer, because encouragement is always nice during such a long projects. I’m sure author had a blog with process of making, maps and addresses of certain lots, but I can’t find a link now. Don’t know if it was on tumblr or other platform. I think it was blogspot or wordpress more likely. So if you find it by a chance, please post link in comments.

Fun facts about my art process:

Today I was making new JLI art and it got me thinking that I have the same ritual when it comes to drawing the JLI and some of them are very silly and fun so I wanted to share with you guys. Even if you don’t care, reading is important so just read the freaking post lol.

1- I hate drawing men !!! Seriously, drawing Martian and Batman is easy for me bc they have very easy features to draw like Batman’s mask and Martian’s nose. But every time I have to draw Ted, Booser and Guy it’s a struggle.

2- drawing Ted is the hardest, I think it’s bc I shipp Ted and Bea so I always try to draw Ted cuter than the other boys and that pressure makes it harder for me but drawing Ted is the bane of my existence.

3- idk why but Guy always ends up looking super hot. I swear it’s unintentional, but the man always looks so hot, sometimes I look at my drawings and I’m like “wtf Giovana why did u make him look so hot ? “

4- I like making Tora skin pinkish, mostly bc she has white hair so white hair and light skin would look very washed out but I like to think that her skin is like “ice burnt” (?). Idk if that’s a word, I’m Brazilian I’ve never felt cold in my life. All I know is sun burnt lol.

5- the opposite goes to Bea, I like to make her skin light bc, well she is in fact white Brazilian, but I like to make her hair color pop, that’s also why I give her black lipstick and eyebrows, it’s all about the hair.

6- Bea’s hair !!!! I always try to give her the best hair. I make it very voluminous, very wavy and very bright almost as if it’s on fire. I love her hair, also I’m trying to redeem her hair bc of the awful 80’s hair style that DC insists on giving her.

7- I listen to Hannah Montana while making my JLI arts … actually I love all the early 00s Disney channel music and I also listen to podcasts but I prefer listening to music while drawing.

8- if I don’t find a reference the drawing is not happening. Every artist struggles at something and my struggle is anatomy I can’t come up with poses, especially group poses so I’m always looking for references. Once I have my reference everything is fine but if I can’t visualize it I can’t draw it.

9- I love drawing booster’s suit, it’s just so shiny and easy to draw, Guy’s vest and Ted’s suit have too much detail so booster’s suit is just fun to draw.

10- I hate drawing booster’s hair tho I always think it looks stupid idk why I hate drawing short hair.

11- I love drawing skeets. I wish I would draw him more often tho. My reference for skeets is the justice league unlimited version.

12- speaking of references, when I draw Batman I almost always make his cape cover him completely bc I think he moves around like Dracula from hotel Transylvania LOL. Idk why but I treat him like the most unserious character ever.

13- I draw using photoshop, this isn’t a fun fact, that’s actually sad.

14- My laptop is an old Lenovo from 2017 and it crashes constantly. Usually I start and finish a drawing on the same day but sometimes my laptop decides otherwise.

15- my signature is my initials but one time someone commented that it’s looks like a “cursive B” and since then when I can’t get my signature just right I draw a cursive B instead and it works lol.

16- I always give Ted dimples, mainly bc dimples make him look even cuter but also bc I struggle with drawing men so I try to give them different characteristics to make them look unique.

17- I give every JLI member its own layer file while drawing and I always make it color coordinated. So Bea’s file is green, Ted’s is blue, Booster’s is yellow, etc.

18- I name all my layers and to keep my sanity I name them all with silly names like “bea’s million dollar hair”. “Boosters shiny ass suit”. “Tora’s blush she bought from MAC”.

19- I came up with Bea’s suit bc I always hated that she had normal looking clothes instead of a suit like everyone else so I came up with a new one and it was inspired by a pair of boots I saw on instagram once.

20- the JLI is my favorite thing to draw <3

That’s all I can come up with right now, hope this post encourages people to keep drawing bc most digital artists like to appear as if being good at drawing is a magical gift and they don’t struggle at anything. So this is my reality lol

You know, as much as we all appreciate the mass amount of fanart you draw of all these characters, we still haven't seen you draw YOU before. I'm not talking, a chibi, I'm not talking 10 second sketch, let's appreciate the artist for once, give us a good old Verzi smile and show off on a nice lil outfit.

Self portraits aren't really anything I've had a large interest in drawing beyond those chibi/silly styles I normally depict myself as. I'm not really at a point where I'm satisfied with how I look (I do not have the means or wherewithal to transition to my true self, y'know?) But i've depicted myself in several ways: There's the doodles of me in my monthly money bars, but also there's this doodle of me sitting in my files from when I was considering doing one of those Meet The Artist dealies back in 2017. Never finished it, but im not displeased with it!

Then I also depicted myself as one of those Disney "Dawgs" when my BF and I were playing with the ideas of having toon-sonas that I drew using iconic Goofy Movie reaction expressions. I used them as my main blog icon for a while, and they still give me a good laugh whenever i remember i drew them :P

Then there's that comic I drew before i turned 30.... 6 years ago xD

Maybe one day I'll be pleased enough with myself to do one of those BIG self portrait artworks, but atm, im too busy drawing everyone else's boys to pay bills do much but flail about. So yea. 😅

joan baez is an american singer songwriter and activist. many of her folk songs spread awareness about social justice, and are protest songs. she was part of the folk revival of the 1960s alongside bob dylan, who she had a very public relationship with, and she is arguably one of the most important folk singers. in 2017 she was inducted into the rock n roll hall of fame.

joan chandos baez grew up in nyc and as a child her family converted to Quakerism. during her childhood she was often discrimanated and called racial slurs because of her Mexican heritage, which sparked her intrest in activism. she attended boston university and lter dropped out to perform in local cafes and venus, and refused to play in segregated areas.

joan's first professional performance was at 18, and afterwards she made her first album sold moderately well. she went on tour and had a sold out performance. in 1961 she relased another album, then another in 1962 which both went gold. the same year she was on the cover of time magazine- something that was rare for musicians. during the mid 60s she continued to rise in popularity, and introduced her audience to the then unknown bob dylan.

the two were in a relationship throughout the early to mid 60s, and wrote numerous songs about each other. joan's musical style was unique and she continued to experiment with different styles. bob described her as having a 'siren' like voice and having a unique guitar style. her first single to chart was in 1965, and out of her 14 vanguard albums, 13 were on the billboard 100 mainstream pop chart. 11 made top 40, 8 made top 20 and 4 made top 10. her music has inspired the likes of bob dylan, joni mitchell, judas priest, led zeppelin and many more.

a crucial part of joan's life has been her activism. she was one of the early artists to use her platform to spread awareness, both through her music and through her actions. she supported the civil right's movement (leading to an fbi file on her), protested the war in vietnam (and got arrested), is against the death penalty, advocated for the lgbtq+ community, supported peaceful protests in iran, performed in rallies against the war in iraq, was in a tree 'sit-in' for urban farmers, endorsed obama during the 2008 election and performed for the protesters at occupy wall street in 2011.

in 2007 joan was given the lifetime achievement award at the grammy's for her impact on music, and in 2011 the amnesty international, a human rights group honored joan and had a tribute event. she also received an award in 2015 by the amnesty international. the american academy of the arts and sciences elected her to the fellowship in 2020 for her contributions to music and activism, and she was listed at 189 on rolling stone's 200 best singers list.

BEFORE THERE WAS NBLISS, THERE WAS VIXENS. AND BEFORE THERE WAS VIXENS, LOVE BITE WAS BORN.

an underground company by the name of BLACK SKY ENTERTAINMENT hit the public with LOVE BITE’s sound in 2015 as their own attempt at reaching stardom, trying to combat global successes such as TWICE and BLACKPINK. the original lineup consisting of eight girls, members LILA, HANA, EUNHA, DAIYU, EUNJI, MEI, IZUMI, and EMIKO, the group debuted with a video game style concept that slowly gave them the nickname 8-BITE in reference to the video game concept teasers that came out for all eight members.

debuting with an ep titled LOVE MORE featuring a colorful music video for the title track of the same name, LOVE BITE skyrocketed in fame for their fun sound and even better group dynamics, with YOON HANA and KOBAYASHI DAIYU quickly becoming fan favorites. but all of that good energy would begin to crumble not even a few months after their debut ep’s success.

BLACK SKY ENT. was unexpectedly hit with staff complaints of management mistreatment in late 2017, going underreported due to not getting enough exposure. many were quick to even admonish the staff members for trying to ruin the image of a newly risen entertainment company, going as far as to call them ‘ungrateful’ and ‘evil’. but the public would soon take their words back in shock when three of the LOVE BITE girls — DAIYU, EUNJI, and MIKA — would all leave the company for ‘personal reasons’. fans, being rightfully upset and shocked, demanded answers from BLACK SKY, who ignored their countless emails and protest trucks to paint the three as the villains in their story. LOVE BITE tried to make a comeback that year with a single R U IN LUV?, but that and many more would not do as well as their debut.

in 2018, DAIYU, along with fellow members HANA, EUNJI, EUNHA, EMIKO, and LILA, would all file to sue BLACK SKY ENT. for not only mismanagement, but for unlawful sexual harassment and contract violations. BLACK SKY ENT. was launched into immediate hot water, especially with their two most popular members hurling heavy accusations against them. BLACK SKY ENT. did their best to deny the accusations, but dispatch — as dispatch does — revealed incriminating text messages and photos sent by BLACK SKY ENT. management and other high ranking officials, further plunging the company’s reputation in the gutter. the ceo of the company, SEOK HAJOON, publicly stepped down despite no information leaked specific to him, only for news about him attempting to solicit the LOVE BITE girls to famous actors and businessmen for cash under the guise of having them attend private parties as special guests was slapped across every news site in the nation. this news essentially dissolved the company just as quickly as it rose to fame, leaving the girls free but just as lost and terrified.

on september 17th of that year the members of LOVE BITE would hold the very last live as a group in HANA’s home, exchanging tearful sentiments. despite their extremely short run, a bond formed between those eight girls that fans were both delighted and saddened to see. love bite is forever, a fan would write in the comments, and even though they separated into different career paths, the girls couldn't agree more.

following the unofficial disbandment of LOVE BITE in early 2019, the girls would split into different careers — some going back to school, others going into acting, and some choosing to retry their luck in the industry under a label better suited to them. after acquiring VENUS in 2023 and receiving global success under a new label, fans began to clamor for more from the entertainment company. they wanted another group to fawn and gush over, especially pleased with their successes through VENUS and ALLUME. to appease the masses, FLOWERBANK teased the public with news that they would be debuting a new group in 2024, with five selected trainees under their belt.

soon after, teasers began dropping on the company’s social medias. RANI was revealed first, telling a story about a girl who loved to dance. then came HYEJIN and MINGYUE, publicly loved and hated alike by the public due to their backgrounds, while MEI was publicly adored by the masses with her story of rising triumphant from a horrible company. not much was revealed about DAEUN, who would soon leave the group on ‘good terms’ stated by both her and the company. while these four girls were pushed to the forefront, fans began to notice that one in particular seemed to be favored less by the company, which only dragged her out to surface even more. MEI looked to be not as promoted in the group’s teasers, and with no information or reasoning from FLOWERBANK, netizens did what they do best. they searched for answers.

months before their scheduled debut, MEI was under fire for accusations of bullying, an anonymous source filing against her. the public blew up the allegations, demanding FLOWERBANK to release a statement about the news. MEI had denied the rumors, insisting she had been set up, but the public was not having it. she had descended from victim to bully and her name had been tarnished.

with the unexpected bad press surrounding MEI’s name, VIXENS were forced to reschedule their debut to a later date. support was doled out to the other girls in waves, especially after MEI issued a statement not even close to what could be deemed an apology, soon leaving the group after the company quietly terminated her contract. fans waited with bated breath for the group’s first official appearance as a trio, finally free from any negative publicity. until news about MEI broke headlines again.

predebut pictures of MEI resurfaced after the group’s predebut single was released, showcasing explicit scenes and crude gestures featuring what seemed to be MEI and more unidentified characters. despite FLOWERBANK’s best efforts to quell the situation, nasty rumors about MEI began to circulate, forcing the company to put group on temporary hold before the release of their debut ep. FLOWERBANK came out with a statement to let the public know that MEI was officially let go from the company despite the rumors she had been spreading, and the remaining members RANI, HYEJIN, and MINGYUE would rebrand under the new name NBLISS with two new members: VIVIENNE and DAWN.
