A/N: I've wanted to write this story for a while now, but waited until I could do it justice. It's set during the latter half of intern year/book 1. Submission for @julychallenge prompt "friendship"

She did not want to be the Cancer Girl. As she entered the last few months of her twenties, she was determined her thirties would be about Kyra Santana. Maybe she didn’t know yet who that woman was, but she was excited to learn more about her.

A wave of sickness rose from her stomach to her throat, but she stubbornly tamped it down. For now, though, Kyra mused, that journey to self-exploration would have to wait.

Her hands gripped the edge of the treatment chair’s armrest, fingers clenching and unclenching around the padded material. Tilting her head back to stare at the ceiling, she counted backward from fifty and felt the nausea recede by the time she hit ten.

This wasn’t her first rodeo with chemo. She barely even felt the port under her collarbone, pumping drugs directly into her veins. But it was a reminder that she wasn’t whole. This device that sat just below her skin, a disc-like bump visible above the neckline of her loose-necked top.

Her mood turned morose, leaving behind the hopeful optimism of a few minutes ago. The disease had defined her twenties, and with six months of treatments in this round, it would define her thirties, too.

Who was Kyra Santana, if not Cancer Girl?

“Uh-oh. I know that look. Do we need to jump out of a plane again?”

Startled from the stormy thoughts clouding her brain, Kyra looked up into the teasing green eyes of Cassie Valentine, a half-grin lifting the corner of her lips.

“I’m game if you are,” Kyra chuckled, noting the expensive-looking gift basket she was carrying.

Her heart sank at the idea of having to throw out what would no doubt be fancy chocolates, gourmet cookies and other goodies. She didn’t know how to tell Cassie that her stomach was not up to such snacks.

When she finished a session, it took all her energy to get home before she crashed, let alone eat anything rich. Most days, she barely managed to keep anything down.

“Once was enough, Wonder Woman,” Cassie rolled her eyes, pulled up a visitor’s chair and plopped herself down.

“Here, this is for you,” she handed over the gift basket wrapped in cellophane with a red bow on top.

Kyra stared at the unusual basket in bemusement. Instead of snacks, there was a stack of multi-colored plastic cards fanned across wrinkled tissue paper.

“I figured you wouldn’t have the energy to cook after your sessions,” Cassie explained when Kyra arched one brow in question. “So, I got you gift cards for food delivery apps, restaurants in your neighborhood, ride-share apps and the like.”

Cassie leaned in and pointed to a brightly colored envelope tucked under the cards. “There are also a couple of gift certificates for nail salons and day spas for when you want to shake off the Chemo Blues.”

“Marry me,” Kyra blurted out, overwhelmed by the gesture more than the basket. An indescribable feeling of gratitude filled her chest.

Cassie gasped and pressed a hand dramatically to the base of her throat. But a small giggle escaped her lips. “Wow, you’re easy to please. Of course, you did flirt with me the first time we met.”

“You flirted back,” Kyra reminded her, grinning, unoffended.

“I can’t help myself,” Cassie shrugged, mirth swimming in her eyes. “It’s in the genes.”

“Well, if you ever want to experiment or play for the other side, I’m your girl,” Kyra teased, knowing her friend was only into guys.

“Deal!” Cassie winked and threw her head back in laughter.

The nurse entered the infusion room then. She checked Kyra’s vitals, asked about any adverse reactions to the drug protocol and made notations on the chart before leaving them alone.

Kyra adjusted the blanket across her lap, tucking her forearms under the fleece. Although she’d been hot earlier, the cold from the air conditioner now raised goosebumps on her skin.

“You don’t look as harried as the last few days,” Kyra commented, scrutinizing the lack of dark circles under Cassie’s eyes and the neatly tied blonde hair, not a strand out of place.

“The ethics hearing is over. I get to practice medicine again, doing what I love,” Cassie said, stretching her legs and crossing sneaker-shod feet at the ankles. “I didn’t realize how much I loved being a doctor until I thought it might be taken away forever.”

She paused and smiled softly. “Plus, it’s a beautiful Spring day, and I get to spend my break with my friend. Life is good, and I’m blessed.”

“It’s that easy, huh?” Kyra mused, disbelief coloring her voice. “Even with the long hours y’all work, grumpy attendings and PITAs?”

“Even then,” Cassie said, waving away the objection. “My father always tells my brother and me to be thankful for the small stuff and not sweat the big stuff. I’d forgotten that lesson this year but won’t again. I have two more years of residency left. I’m going to practice medicine my way and not worry how someone else would do it or what they’d say.”

Kyra nibbled her lips as she reflected on Cassie’s words. “Before you came, I was sitting here feeling sorry for myself.”

“And now?”

“And now,” Kyra sighed softly and blinked. “And now I’m grateful I have someone who’d give me a basket filled with gift cards instead of useless stuff.” She glanced at the window. “I can see the sun shining outside and smell spring in the air.”

She reached for Cassie’s hand, squeezing it in gratitude and friendship. “It’s a good day to be alive, and I’m blessed.”

In reading the request for me to cover How 2 Do Anything on here, I was made to realize something pretty big. For the 10-plus months that I've been running this blog, and for the amount of coverage I've dedicated to Season 4 Episode 1's King for Another Day tournament event, I've barely devoted any time to its Season 3 prequel on SiIvaGunner. I'm here today with How 2 Do Anything, and its remastered version, to try and resolve that issue - to celebrate the very first SiIvaGunner one-day king, and in some ways, a turning point for the entire channel.

So, first of all - the King for a Day Tournament. Halfway through Season 3, the SiIvaGunner channel was suddenly prevented from uploading videos for a week's time, but were still able to make community posts and tweets. The team was given the perfect opportunity for a channel shake-up, an opportunity to rethink what SiIvaGunner could be, and began thinking of ways to have the channel engage more directly with its viewers. Sure enough, that eventually landed on the idea of a "tournament arc", an event wherein viewers would both submit ideas for contestants to be featured, but then vote between the qualified few to crown a champion - with said champion then getting the reigns of the channel for an entire day of rips. Takeovers had become a regular occurrence on the channel ever since Season 2, be it the Inspector Gadget takeover with Become as Gadget, or the Santana and Rob Thomas takeover with Haltmanna feat. Rob Thomas of Matchbox 20 - each of these, as you can tell, brought with them a bevvy of rips tied to the character hosting the channel, and have in some cases become legends on the channel in retrospect. Thus, each submission to the tournament was of a character who represented a specific kind of rips, a "source list" as it's now since been called - and the voting came down to which kind of rip the viewers would most want to see on the channel for a day's time.

Truth be told, I wish I had been more involved with the fanbase at the time of KFAD1's unfurling, I can only imagine how exciting the discussions must've been during the unveiling and lead-up on Discord and Twitter. Yet as a big lorehead, a big part of the appeal of the original King for a Day tournament for me was specifically the characters each contestant was represented through. Season 3 was right when the Christmas Comeback Crisis (the channel's main storyline) had begun slowing down, with a lot of the lore additions made being supplemental rather than advancing the core story forward. Even though King for a Day wasn't connected to this main story, it was nevertheless a sudden explosion of character - and characters! - added to the channel, a good amount of which would continue to be relevant outside of the tournament's confines. Like, this was the debut of Ajit Pai on the channel, who basically had his own little narrative spun across his first appearance, A New Threat and Totally Shaaking Out Right Now - this was the debut of Geno, the tragic fallen star of DEARLY BELOVED... who we'd later catch back up with in the Season 6 DoomFes event - this was where we got JOHN NOTWOODMAN as the event's host who I rambled on about in Vote Responsibly!!....and it was, of course, the debut of everyone's favorite, Unregistered Hypercam 2.

Even though I was disconnected from most fan discussion at the time, I'm certain I wasn't alone in having Unregistered Hypercam 2 as my favorite of the tournament right from his unveiling. A source list consisting of every anthem of the old internet - Paralyzer, Dreamscape, Bodies - all wrapped up in a completely original character design, the most Little Guy thing you'd ever seen? Frankly, I was sold right away - and with each example rip made under his name, it seemed we'd only be made more sure of our choice. Throughout his run, and after his victory, it was as if How 2 Do Anything became the little guy's anthem - a modern, reimagined take on the theme that taught us all so many things across the early internet's scuffed YouTube tutorials.

I've covered some rips by Scribble1k on here before, notably the fantastic Guilty Eyes Creeper mashup, but King for a Day and its sequel gave rippers the unique opportunity to shine through full-on professional-grade rearrangements. I've always been partial to the themes that Hypercam brought with him to the channel, you may recall I've covered Paralyzer specifically twice already with YACKER TOILET and Remember when this song was the one related to toilets?, but I'm just as attached if not MORESO to the legendary Dreamscape theme that How 2 Do Anything is arranging. Just the three opening piano chords alone strike such a raw nostalgic nerve: its instrumentation is as far removed from Dreamscape as you could come, yet there's no other song that sounds quite like that, it introduces the theme as an old memory to be recalled through Hypercam's presence - an age of the internet lost to time, brought back all these years later after being buried away for so long. The arrangement itself goes in swinging soon after that, a main melody carried through a heavy electronic, almost dubstep-esque vibe - yet it never wholly loses that sort of melancholic tone set up by the introductory piano. The noise and distortion of the arrangement conveys almost a sense of the Dreamscape theme being at battle with the rest of the internet's noise, almost akin to Your Worst Nightmario, yet its a battle that turns into an incredibly sick listening experience, a balance of light and dark.

It's all topped off with a full-circle piano ending, and a small vocal signoff from guest contributor eva twin, whisking the theme away with a proud reaffirmation - "You can do anything...". And sure enough - the little guy did it!! Through a tough bracket and a close final dual with Splatoon's Off the Hook (hence, OtH Was Robbed), Unregistered Hypercam 2 wound up becoming the tournament's champion - and, in the process, has become an outright mainstay character on the channel. He got to have his Windows Movie Maker-core, day-long takeover, filled rips like Never Gonna Give Up Mahjong, and got to appear as the host of the King for Another Day Tournament, playing a vital role in its storyline and surprise final boss with NIGHTMARESCAPE 〜Unrestrained HyperCam 2〜 (Final Boss Phase 2). He's a core SiIvaGunner cast member, and all of this started with just an idea, a figment of the imagination cast into SiIvaGunner's email address for a silly tournament arc. One that was so successful and beloved by the fanbase, that it shaped the entirety of Season 4's two episodes - and in turn shaped much of Season 5 and Season 6 to boot.

This one little guy helped change SiIvaGunner forever, and in turn helped bring in a wave of incredible original arrangements just like How 2 Do Anything in the years to follow. The King for a Day Tournament may well have been overshadowed by its vastly bigger follow-up, but it has paved the way for everything that has kept SiIvaGunner so engrossing to follow in the years since - a shot in the arm at just the right time, and an incredible gateway for SiIvaGunner's team to flex just how talented they've always been.

In light of the escalation of state violence at several protests, I have elected to release my findings on the Canary Mission here.

The canary mission is a shady group of Zionists that doxx activists and students that express support for Palestine in an attempt to silence, intimidate, and defame them.

Some time ago, I was able to link the organization to one Howard David Sterling, an American lawyer who invests in Israeli medical firms. I wrote the report on my site here.

More recently, I found the account that runs their tip submission form. The username was included in the resource URL of the banner image of the form, which is hosted on a service called jotforms, under the username “carlossantanajm”

A google dork turned up two potential candidates: a man from eastern Canada, and a the rock musician Carlos Santana, who played a concert in Israel around 2010 despite backlash. Investigation is underway to conclusively prove the involvement of either of these individuals, but data is scarce.

Also of note was an investigation by Josh Nathan-Kazis into Megamot Shalom: an elusive organization that acts as a front for the Canary Mission. In the report, data from the Israeli charity register is cited but not provided to prove connections between Megamot Shalom and Aish HaTorah, an organization that focuses on pro-Israel media advocacy.

Funding for Megamot Shalom is contributed by wealthy zionists in the US, through the Central Fund for Israel, which routes the money to the Israeli organization so that the donors can claim it on their tax breaks. The connection between the Central Fund for Israel and Megamot Shalom was confirmed by the 2017 Tax returns of the Hellen Diller Family Foundation, who donated to CFI and labeled the reason as “CANARY MISSION FOR MEGAMOT SHALOM”

Two anonymous sources claim that a man named Jonathan Bash (who has ties to Aish HaTorah) confided in them that he ran the Canary Mission. From this info, six other Megamot Shalom board members were able to be named.

Efforts are Still underway to obtain the charity data cited in the report.

The Greatest American Rock Star Tournament

A lot of new people have discovered the March Madness of American Rock Bands in the past couple of days and are reblogging and commenting on polls that closed some time ago.  I appreciate the energy, but unfortunately there’s also a lot of anger and threats directed at bands and the people who voted for them.  I propose redirecting that energy to our follow-up tournament for The Greatest American Rock Star!  Follow this blog and reblog this post so we can get as many voters as possible for the next tournament and hopefully avoid people being angry about it after the fact.

Here's the plan:

I’m making a list of solo rock performers from the United States (including artists who were born, naturalized, or just lived in the US for a long time).  The list is below the cut and currently has 312 artists.  I’m still accepting submissions but will cap it 320.

We're using the broadest definition of rock for the artists participating in this tournament. Genres and sub-genres will included acid rock, alternative rock, art rock, blues rock, country rock, dance music, doo-wop, electronic music, folk rock, funk, glam rock, grunge, heavy metal, hip hop, indie rock, industrial, new wave, pop, power pop, punk, rap, reggae, r&b, rock and roll, rockabilly, singer/songwriter, ska, soft rock, soul, surf music, yacht rock, and more! If you think an artist is "not rock" then the best thing you can do is not vote for them. Nobody wants to see your comments about how you think [artists name] is "not rock" and if you're too obnoxious about it you might get blocked.

For the first stage of the competition, artists will be in groups of 4 with other artists from the same decade.  Since many artists have multi-decade careers, I’m placing them in the decade when they first emerged as a popular recording artist, which is deliberately vague, and I may shift some artists around a bit to balance the groups.

April 3-10: Group Stage

Every day I will post 9 to 10 polls of groups of 4.  These polls will be open 7 days to allow them to get the most possible attention from Tumblr users.  Campaigning for favorite artists is encouraged. Vitriol directed at artists and especially at Tumblr users who vote for them is not, and may get you blocked.

April 17-20: The Winnowing

Artists who advanced from the group stage will be seeded for head to head, one day polls against other artists who participated in groups whose polls started on the same day.

April 27-May 10: Bracket

All surviving artists will be placed into a bracket for head-to-head matchups lasting one day each.
