Summary: Dean gets to spend eternity sharing beers with Bobby on the Roadhouse porch and riding around in his Baby with Sam. He’s at peace… or he feels like he should be. But a few things nag at him: Where is Cas, and everybody else Dean had been hoping to see in Heaven? Why does he feel like he’s stuck in a loop, reliving the same memories over and over again? And who are the strangers wearing Sam’s and Bobby’s faces?

Preview: “We’re in Heaven,” Sam says, sounding awestruck.

“Yeah, man,” Dean agrees. “I haven’t even been here that long, but I met Bobby a little while back. At the Roadhouse, can you imagine?” He hitches on a grin, hoping it’ll dispel the lingering feeling of wrong in his gut. “The Roadhouse is up here.”

“Awesome,” Sam says. “Let’s go. I wanna see.”

Dean’s a little tired of driving by now, but he doesn’t say that. Sam wants to see the Roadhouse, see Bobby, and Dean’s never been able to refuse his little brother anything. So he gets back in the driver’s seat, and “Carry On Wayward Son” comes on the radio. Dean moves to turn it off, but Sam arrests his motion, fingers curling around Dean’s wrist.

“Don’t,” he says, teeth showing in a big grin. “I love this song.”

Reluctantly, Dean nods, and he starts to drive. This time, it takes them mere moments to make it back to the clearing where the Roadhouse sits. Dean could swear it took longer than this to get to the bridge, but it’s hard to tell. And, like Bobby said, time up here is different.

Speaking of Bobby, he’s gone from his chair on the porch.“Huh,” Dean says as he slides out of his seat, pushing Baby’s door closed. The hinges don’t creak. Maybe that’s another thing Jack fixed for him. “Bobby was here earlier. Guess he went inside. Let’s go see.”

He starts walking, and then Sam is there, hand clamped on Dean’s shoulder. Dean could swear he was several paces behind just a second ago.“No need, man,” Sam says, his smile bigger than ever. “Let’s just sit on the porch, have a beer. Then we can drive some more.”

Dean fights the urge to shake off his brother’s hand. That sense of wrong is creeping up on him again. “No, that’s alright. I just wanna go inside. See who’s there, you know? Haven’t really had a chance to say hi to anyone except you and Bobby.”

Maybe Cas is waiting there for me.

Dean keeps walking, Sam’s hand sliding off him. The Roadhouse seems further away than it did a moment ago, but it’s probably Dean’s mind playing tricks, or another bit of weirdness about Heaven. If time is different, space might be too, right?

He steps onto the porch, loose board creaking under his feet.

Wasn’t that board somewhere different before?

every time the whole sam eats rabbit food thing comes up on the show or in fanfiction it’s such a great example of the writers doing something interesting that they don't have the guts to follow through with because it’s usually in the context of “sam eats traditionally non-masculine foods let’s laugh at him for his failure to perform masculinity on the Man Show” but in the context of PTSD and sam's self consciousness the mr. king of compartmentalization is eating “clean” foods in an effort to live in a “cleaner” body and cleanse himself of the moral failings and contamination that comes with having demon blood in his body which is an infinitely more interesting metaphor for abuse but yeah no sam's just a pussy for eating a salad got it

Today, Dean, Sam, Jack, and Cas all head over to Jody and Donna's for Mother's Day. They bring ample amounts of food and desserts so dinner won't be a problem for at least a week.

So this is the “pilot episode” for a comic I’d like to keep adding onto just for fun, the basic premise is that it’s a post canon fix it comic about Dean discovering who he is outside of his macho persona while also repairing his relationships and building new ones.

It is a Destiel fic but it’s gonna be a slow burn because Dean has decided he can’t talk about his feelings until all his emotional issues are resolved (spoilers that’s not how things like that work).

I also plan on peppering in some lore explaining how Cas got out of the empty, how they ended up with a house, and who is currently God in universe. I’m not sure when I’ll get to work on another installment but hopefully it won’t be long because this has been an AU rolling around in my head since 2020

last three seasons spn are crazy. its just dean being borderline suicidal while sam tries to fix it by basically dangling his keys at him and going : “dean look! cowboys!” “dean look! strip club!” “dean look! haunted action figure.”

Meanwhile castiel is like i see that dean is suicidal, this is clearly my fault so i will remedy this by dying.

I took a look at TV fandoms* that have a lot of fix-it fanworks on AO3. Tagging varies a bunch by fandom and the type of event fans are responding to, so I looked at a bunch of different types of tags. I'll be doing deeper dives into some specific fandoms in future chapters.

I have watched the Supernatural fully only once, I have rewatched seasons 1-8 a fair few times and episodes with Cas and Gabriel I have watched a dozens times but I have never watched season 15 or the last 2 episodes more than once.

Until today. I have not been able to bring myself to do it but as I have resumed writing my post season 15 fix-it fic, I wanted the end of the show fresh in my mind. So for research purposes I’m putting myself through the pain of watching ‘Carry On’ (I’m not or never will be able to bring myself to watch ‘Despair’ again. Okay maybe I’m being a bit dramatic but whatever)
