[ LANTERNS ] - Lanterns shaped like flowers decorate a large table alongside bowls of strips of paper and writing utensils. Guests are instructed to write a wish on the piece of paper and then roll it into the rim of a lantern, and once finished, to set them into the water. The result of everyone’s wishes is a truly breath-taking sight of a hundred little lights on the ocean’s surface.

It seems like a good idea to Ike.

It's the kind of things normal siblings do together, right? At the very least, he thinks Mist would enjoy it. So, when he sees other people with their lanterns, he goes to find Mist.

"Have you seen the lantern thing?" Ike asks. "I thought it would be fun to do that together."

It's not often that the siblings find themselves at events such as this. Ike tends to avoid them, and they quickly become overbearing for Mist, but on the rare occasion that she's enjoying herself?

Well, darn it, she's gonna make Ike enjoy it too! (Or, try to.) It is even more surprising to have Ike suggest such a thing, though. And it would be perfect, if not for the fact that Mist had already sent out a lantern wish of her own.

Oh, jeez. How to let brothers down gently? Well, not that Ike would be too let down.

"Oh! Yes, we should definitely do this together!" But, she knows she'd rather not keep anything from Ike. "I just let sail a lantern, so I can help you figure it out. It'll be fun!"

Mist quickly nabs a nearby lantern, and presses it into his hands. It reminds her of another gift, though, and she slips a pearl bracelet from her wrist as well.

"Here you go. Oh, and here's my bracelet. You gotta enjoy the games too you know!"

Upon awakening after the fight Ike is exhausted but he still goes out of his way to check on the kid. Too young for serious battle he'd argue but he knows that isn't always a choice people get. He himself started mercenary work pretty young and battle around this kid's age. Things happen.

It's not hard to find him. They seem unable to leave between fights, able just to mend their wounds and prepare for whatever comes next.

"Hey," he says as he approaches the kid. "I'm Ike, by the way. We didn't really get proper introductions. I'm sorry I wasn't able to do more to protect you. I gave it my best but that's not an excuse."

"... Erk." This guy is tall. Really tall. Something that Erk hadn't gotten to notice until they were both on solid ground, and he found himself craning his neck to look up at him.

"... It's not your fault..." He starts, fingers nervously twining together with the absence of the tome he usually held in his hands. "I mean, I don't think there was anything you could have done."

They had both failed to protect someone, hadn't they? Innocent violet eyes blink up at Ike, before quickly darkening again as a frown settled on Erk's face.

"You can always try... again... I mean, there's going to be another round. I would like it if you... you tried again..."

"Nephenee?" Ike asked, having to have done a double take the second he saw her. Hers was the kind of familiar face that he would never be upset about seeing. He had assumed she'd had her fill of combat, had gone back to that village of hers. It was surprising to see her here then but maybe people need to see the world in full before they can truly go back home. "How have you been? Spoken to Elinicia yet? I bet she'll be happy to see you."

Here is a person she feels most like herself around. Ike never cared two licks 'bout her mannerisms, only her ability to aid a just cause. If only more people were like him. Might have been she'd've found her confidence much sooner.

She turns, a hand atop her helmet to prevent it slidin' all over the place, a small smile on her lips.

"Ike! Good ta see ya again. I've been fine. Brom 'n Meg say hello." Nephenee removes her hand and gives a short nod. "Mhm, saw her yesterday for tea. Was more excited'n I've ever seen her. How're you farin'? Honestly didn't expect ta see ya in a place like this."

Not that she ever thought she'd attend some fancy-folk Academy; life sure is a mite stranger than people expect.

Thinking about how in Gideon's narration she employs 206 anatomical names for bones but Harrow doesn't know the difference between a hilt and a pommel.
