L: Lycanthropy AU seventeen moons by we_built_the_shadows_here [snily, G, 6k] “The scar is small, at least,” Pomfrey says, pulling the bandage snug around the cleaned wound. There’s a pity in her voice that makes Severus want to throw up again. “It will be easily covered.” Dumbledore catches him inspecting it, as if mesmerized. “You are lucky to have survived at all,” the Headmaster says. Severus does not say I don’t feel very lucky because it is stupid and obvious. Instead, he says unsteadily, “I want to press charges, sir.” Pomfrey stills, tightening the bandage to the point of discomfort. “Remus Lupin would be executed,” Dumbledore says. “The Ministry takes a dim view of werewolves who infect other wizards.”

M: Musician AU Bubblegum Blues by reachthetree [wolfstar, M, 5k] Remus actually looks down as she smiles, like a shy teenager in a first kiss scenario, and it gives Sirius deja vu. She’s lived this exact moment before. Only in another life. When Remus lifts the bass, Sirius sees a tattoo on the back of her upper arm, and drops her little notebook on the sticky floor. She’s only known one other person with a tattoo like that. But it can’t be… Can it?

N: No Voldemort AU Sing Me a (Christmas) Love Song by andromedablacc [James/Sirius, G, 1k] James is a famous Quidditch player, and once upon a time Sirius was famous in his own right.

O: Office AU Of Tinsel and Nice Starts by nerakrose [wolfstar, G, 2k] Mysterious clouds and strange coffee abounds. Office romance.

P: Photographer AU Rule of Thirds by bluepeony [wolfstar, G, 2k] Modern AU: Sirius Black, star of the university's football team, only wants one thing: a teensy-weensy, harmless little kiss.

Q: Quidditch Player AU our kiss is as the moon to draw by blackkat [lily/narcissa, T, 1k] “Problems, cousin?” Narcissa calls to Sirius, cool and sugar-sweet. She’s smirking, braid of pale hair coming loose, and Lily should absolutely be cheering for Gryffindor, but she can't help herself. As Narcissa turns into a sharp dive, snatching the Quaffle right out of James's hands as she passes, she whoops, clapping her hands together. “I think this is the part where I'm supposed to call you a traitor,” Remus observes from the seat beside her, as dry as dust, though he hasn’t even lifted his gaze from his book.

R: Receptionist AU They don't love you like I love you by moonlightgalleon [wolfstar, G, 5k] Hospital receptionist Remus Lupin usually invites superheroes as guests for the kids. That is, until he gets the unusual request of inviting villain The Canis.

S: Soulmate AU Amare Series by ABlackRaven [harry/cedric, T, 173k] Cedric feels drawn to protect Harry Potter. Whether this be from Dementors on a Quidditch pitch or the tasks of a life-threatening tournament, he's determined to help him. He can't help but worry about the younger boy. Eventually friendship takes root and potentially…something more? Harry feels drawn to Cedric, safe when he is near. He certainly has no shortage of dangers in his life, from an abusive home life to the growing threat of Voldemort. He cant help the guilt that he puts Cedric in danger by proximity. Eventually friendship takes root and potentially…could he hope for something more? And when the end of the third task goes horribly wrong, will either of them survive? A rewrite of Book 4 revolving around Harry and Cedric.

T: Time Travel AU Escaping the Paradox by Meri [snarry, E, 35k] After Harry is thrown back in time to 1971, he has several choices to make. (also available as a podfic)

Thankfully, Albus had been working on a vague contingency plan for this possibility. Chapter 5: Blaise Zabini and the journey to the Hufflepuff common room

Blaise doesn’t frequently feel genuine hatred for people but there was no better way to describe 

how he felt towards Dumbledore when he heard him rumble, “Prefects, lead your Houses back to the dormitories immediately!” after learning that a troll was in the dungeons.

You know, where the Slytherin dorms are. 

Are you fucking kidding me?

Immediately all the Slytherins turned to their prefects, sixth years William Selwyn and Aliyah Fawley. “Where are we supposed to go?” cried Milicent Bulstrode from further down the table, as William tried to reach Professor Snape and Aliyah did her best to calm the terrified Slytherins. 

They settled on bringing everyone up to the seventh floor to hide in an abandoned classroom, which proved far more difficult than it should have been given the staircases moving at their own accord. By the time Blaise reached the fourth floor he was separated from the mass of Slytherins who didn’t notice his departure in their haste. The staircases then choose to avoid him, moving as far away from him as possible. Blaise rushed down a familiar corridor passing a stack of barrels and running to the portrait of fruit. He was suddenly dragged backwards by a hand pulling on his arm. Turning to see who on earth was holding him back from salvation in the kitchens, he met eyes with Isabella who continued to pull him back towards the barrels. She quickly tapped on the barrels which opened to reveal a winding staircase.

“Go go go go!” Isabella urged as she pushed him down the stairs following closely behind him. 

“Reyes, I’m 95 percent sure this is kidnapping.” Blaise said relaxing now that he was out in the open.

“Blaise shut up and keep walking before I drag you to the dungeons and feed you to the troll myself.” she threatened, keeping her hand firmly on his back, forcing him forward. 

After descending what Blaise could only describe as an ungodly amount of stairs, they reached a large wooden door which swung open as they approached. “Welcome to the Home of the Hufflepuffs.” Isabella sang with a smug tone as she saw Blaise’s eyes widen.

What lay before him was a large room, two stories with a high sloped ceiling. The walls were a light brown and had vines and plants naturally growing on them. Pillars from the first floor all the way to the second, wooden archways connecting them together are also overcome with vines. The second story was adorned with a balcony allowing for an outlook of the entire first floor. The balconies had plants dropping over their edges as well. The first floor had several black couches, armchairs, tables, and desks accompanied with many throw pillows and blankets ( some black others in varying shades of yellow). The second had several hallways which Blaise assumed led to the Hufflepuff dormitories and a vast window charmed similarly to the ceiling in the Great Hall. The center of the first floor had a fire pit with a gold fire that crackled gently providing plenty of warmth for the common room without endangering the plants surrounding the room. 

“The fire never dies, only decreasing and increasing as necessary.”, informed Isabella’s voice as she gently guided him into the common room and to a couch by his hand. “You can hide out here until we get word from the professors saying that it's safe.”

“Right.” is all Blaise could say as he realized he felt more comfortable in the seconds he’s been in the Hufflepuff common room than he’s ever felt in the Slytherin’s.

“I’m going to go let Noah know that you’re here, okay? Just hang out here and make yourself at home.”, with a soft smile she climbed the stairs and disappeared down a hallway. 

Now alone Blaise let himself sink into the couch and reached for a pastel yellow throw blanket, covering himself with it. 

If Malfoy saw me like this he’d make my life hell, Blaise thought to himself as his eyes drooped, falling into a deep sleep.

Blaise awoke to the sound of pages turning and Frank Sinatra's smooth voice declaring his love.

Opening his eyes he saw that he was now joined by Isabella who was reading The Tales of Beedle the Bard on the other side of the couch. “How long was I asleep?”

She looked over at a clock embedded into the wall, “Just over two hours. They found the troll by the way. Noah, that's our boy Prefect, told Professor Sprout about you. Professor Sprout let Snape know that you were here, she told me to make sure you knew you could stay for as long as you like.``

“That’s nice.” Blaise responded, settling back into the couch. 

“If you want you can stay and meet the others tomorrow morning.” 

“Yeah whatever you say Reyes.” he muttered as sleep consumed him again.

That’s how Blaise found himself here, in the kitchens at 6am (an hour before his scheduled wake up time) wearing the same clothes as the day before eating breakfast with some of the Hufflepuffs of his year. “How exactly do you all know the elves again?” Blaise asked as he blew on his porridge.

“Part of the induction into Hufflepuff is introducing yourself to the elves since we are so close to the kitchens.” clarified Wayne Hopkins, a quiet boy that Blaise had noticed was consistently overlooked in class.

“Everybody in Hufflepuff knows the elves.” Ernie Macmillan added unnecessarily, given that is just what Wayne said.

“Do you guys always wake up this early?” he questioned, rubbing his eyes.

“No,” Isabella said with conviction, staring intensely at her eggs with bacon “thankfully.” she added under her breath clearly offended by how early it was.

“Whenever we eat in the kitchens Megan likes to wake us up extra early so that we aren’t in the way of the elves.” Susan Bones explained.

Susan was a kind girl, the type of person to bring people into conversations whenever she felt they were being left out. Blaise could admire this trait… so long as she never attempted to do the same to him.

“It's only fair since we are asking them to cook for us separately from everyone else.” Megan Jones exclaimed indignantly. Everyone grew quiet at this, it seemed as though they had already had this discussion several times before.

“Where is Smith?” 

Zacharias Smith was the kind of person that Blaise didn’t like. Not to the degree of Malfoy but certainly getting there. He was obnoxious and the type of person to insert himself into situations he did not need to be in. 

“Oh, he didn’t want to come with us.” Justin Finch-Fletchley confessed with a mischievous smile that told Blaise he hadn’t tried very hard to convince Smith to join. Blaise quickly decided he didn’t mind Finch-Fletchley.

In fact, by the time they had finished eating Blaise decided he didn’t mind the group at all. He enjoyed seeing the group interact with each other, how the girls defended Wayne when Ernie kept repeating everything he said but louder, how Reyes would lightly make fun of them with no bite to her words and everyone seemed to understand that was just how she was. 

Maybe it wouldn’t have been the worst thing to be sorted into Hufflepuff, Blaise accepted as he dragged his feet back down to the dungeons and away from the welcoming Hufflepuffs.

Author's notes: this chapter is short as hell but I feel it is a good enough introduction to the Hufflepuffs and the common room. This is an old favorite series that I recently started reading through again, and it's just as amazing as I remember it. Each fic in the series centers around a woman or girl who played a supporting role in the books: Cho, Hannah, Parvati, Ginny, Pansy, Andromeda, Susan, and Luna. I love how their points of view are explored and how different the story looks through each of their eyes, while still sticking close to the canon narrative. I especially love the Andromeda and Ginny fics, but they're all excellent.

My first time posting a series, this is about the women who didn’t get explored enough in the books. Several character studies involving Cho Chang, Luna Lovegood, Susan Bones, Hannah Abbott, Parvati Patil, Ginny Weasley, Pansy Parkinson, and Andromeda Tonks.

"I just don't understand," you said quietly and gloomily to Luna Lovegood, who was braiding your hair. It was finally Friday, and luckily, you and Luna had no homework to do.

"Why does he hate me? What have I done?" you finished. You were playing with the grass as you spoke. Luna tilted her head to the side to see your face. "It's the Nargles that are doing this."

“you’re righ- the what?” you questioned as you turned your head to face the girl behind you who had a dreamy look.

"The Nargles, of course. Wear this - it'll help," the blonde-headed girl said, as she reached for the jewelry she was wearing. But before she could hand it to you, a boy with ocean blue eyes and blonde hair came into view, blocking the sunlight. He was also with a tall girl who had short hair and bangs.

"Hanging with the freak, are you? Loony, is she?" Draco Malfoy said loudly. Beside him, Pansy Parkinson laughed, but it sounded more like a weird holler to you.

You had gotten up and faced the slightly taller boy in front of you.

"I'm hanging with a person who is actually worth my time - unlike some people I could mention." you said coldly.

"Watch that tone," Draco said, his jaw tightening.

“Who are you to tell me that?” you scoffed.

“I said Watch that tone-”

“You don’t get to tell me to “watch that tone-”

“Excuse me?” Professor Mcgonagall had said sternly as she came into view. “I do not want to hear such words coming from your mouth! do you want house points taken?” she said to you.

“No Professor.”

“Then stop acting in such a way!”

“Yes Professor.”

And with that, Professor Mcgonagall left with her nose in the air. you could sense that Draco and Pansy were laughing the whole time and you couldn’t take it any longer. grabbing Luna by her forearm, you left.

You were visibly angry at what Draco had said to your friend. Seeing her sad face when Draco had the audacity to call her 'Loony' made you even angrier.

You huffed and puffed as you tried to calm yourself and fall asleep but it was obviously not working. you groaned loudly and hopped off your bed. It caused Hannah Abbot and Susan Bones to stir in their sleep slightly.

You opened your dorm room slightly and left. your footsteps echoing all alone.

The halls were quiet. the only sounds the distant echoes of footsteps and the occasional creak of an old floorboard. The portraits on the walls watching over the castle, their eyes following you as you move through the halls quietly.

The night sky is visible through the castle's windows, a tapestry of stars that twinkle in the darkness. The moon casts a soft glow across the world below, illuminating the castle and casting eerie shadows across the walls.

The sky was a deep, velvety blue, and the air is crisp and cool. The world was quiet, peaceful, and still, as if holding its breath in awe of the beauty above.

Just as you were about to head back to your room after your own private tour, you had heard a voice.

“sneaking off are we?” the voice had said.

“Who are you?” you questioned as you tried to make out the dark silhouette who was leaning against the wall.

“Guess.” the voice had said teasingly.

“Uh Harry?” you said uncertainty.

“Do I sound like Potter to you?” said the voice rudely.

The way he said 'Potter' had you thinking and within a second you found out.

“Draco!” you exclaimed.

"Oh, so you aren't stupid," Draco said smugly.

“Shut up will you?”

“Why are you out at this time?”

“I can ask you the same thing.”

there was a second of you two both looking at each other, and you felt the tension rise dangerously.

“Come.” Draco had said abruptly.

“What?”

"Oh, so now you're deaf? Come!" Draco said as if you were really wasting his time.

You sighed dramatically and followed the boy who was quicker than you. turning left, then right, then left, you and Draco made it to the entrance of Hogwarts. he opened the door and surprisingly, which was not him at all, politely opened the door for you.

“Thank you.” you muttered.

You both walked a bit more and sat side by side by the front lake. The sound of the water lapping against the shore and the cool breeze on your skin made you feel at peace. You both gazed at the billions of stars right in front of your eyes, marveling at how they seemed to twinkle and dance in the sky, creating a magical atmosphere. You noticed how easily the stars lit up the night sky just with their luminous beauty, as if they were happy to share their light with you. The moment felt timeless, as if you were the only two people in the world, surrounded by the vastness of the universe.

Draco then sighed and turned his head towards you. he then started to speak.

“Listen.. I’m sorry.” he said softly. he didn’t take his crystal eyes off you as he spoke.

You kindly, but strangely let him go on by saying nothing.

“It was stupid, thinking I can run away from love. stupid for me to talk to you like that. i just .. didn’t want to accept the fact I loved you- I didn’t want to believe that I was in love with you. these stars that are so far away remind me that love always finds a way, no matter where you go or how hard you try to run from it.”

he then turned away from you and looked up at the sky. he took one deep breath and looked back at you.

“I’m in love with you and I’m not gonna run away from love any longer.”

How many muggleborns actually are there in the UK?

So, I think, the first thing I post here should be what started my HP theorizing journey. Which was an IRL friend asking me how many muggleborns even are there in the Wizarding World to cause this much strife?

So strap on in for a journey of demographic statistics and me documenting every name in the book and their blood status like someone who actually cares (I don't, but I do have some things to say about blood status, inbreeding, and magical genetics, but that's a whole different post)

So, when I started thinking about how to figure out what percentage of muggleborns are in the British Wizarding World, I decided to start simple. Harry's year (according to JKR's notes and Harry Potter and Me) has 40 students. Fewer are mentioned by name in the books, but I created the closest approximation on these 40 students according to book information and notes from JK.

(In general, book canon precedes any other source)

Harry's year is a good start since it gives us a look at all wizards and witches born in the UK in the same year, as it seems all Hogwarts years are similar in size. So this is a good enough rough approximation of blood status across the wizarding world in the UK as a whole (and the one we have the most information about).

Some definitions about blood status and the way it seems to be treated in the books so we'll all be on the same page:

Muggleborn - a wizard with two muggle parents

Pure-Blood - a wizard with two magical parents of which none are muggleborn and at least one is pure blood (i.e a child of a half-blood and a pure blood would be considered a pure blood for this list)

Half-Blood - Only one magical parent who isn't a muggleborn

At least one magical parent - a character we knew for sure isn't muggleborn but do not have further information.

Mandy Brocklehurst - Half-Blood - According to Harry Potter and Me Notes.

Stephen Cornfoot - Pure-Blood - According to Harry Potter and Me Notes.

Anthony Goldstein - Half-Blood - According to Harry Potter and Me Notes.

Roger Malone - At Least One Magical Parent - Same reasoning as Lisa Turpin.

Lily Moon - Most Likely Pure Blood - Has other magical relatives of the name Moon across HP media.

Sally-Anne Perks - At Least One Magical Parent - Same reasoning as Lisa Turpin.

Sophie Roper - At Least One Magical Parent - Same reasoning as Lisa Turpin along with other wizards with the same surname.

Runcorn - Most Likely Pure Blood - As she is likely related to Albert Runcorn who worked in the Ministry of Magic under the Death Eaters' rule and worked as an intimidator and blackmailer of alleged muggleborns.

Sally Smith - Most Likely Pure Blood - As she is likely related to Zacharias Smith.

From this we see that we have:

23/40 = 57.5% Pure-Blood and Most Likely Pure Blood

9/40 = 22.5% Half-Blood

6/40 = 15% At Least One Magical Parent

2/40 = 5% Muggleborn

This kind of percentage is one we see among the Order of the Phoenix (another group of wizards who accept muggleborns and we have information about their blood status) as well. So, it's not just Harry's generation that is low on muggleborns, but that muggleborns are a very small percentage of the wizarding population.

At the Order's peak in members during the First War (therefore before most potential mass muggleborn killings) it had 25 members, and I'll make this list shorter:

Pure-Blood: 8/25 = 32%

Alastor Moody, Alice Longbottom, Elphias Doge, Fabian Prewett, Frank Longbottom, Gideon Prewett, James Potter, Sirius Black

Most Likely Pure Blood: 6/25 = 24%

Dedalus Diggle, Edgar Bones, Emmeline Vance, Marlene McKinnon, Peter Pettigrew, Sturgis Podmore

Half-Blood: 6/25 = 15%

Albus Dumbledore, Aberforth Dumbledore, Mundungus Fletcher, Remus Lupin, Reberus Hagrid, Severus Snape

At Least One Magical Parent: 3/25 = 12%

Benjy Fenwick, Caradoc Dearborn, Dorcas Meadows

Muggleborn: 1/25 = 4%

Only one of the Order members is a muggleborn - Lily Potter.

The fact that even among a group like the Order of the Phoenix (who fought against Voldemort and blood-purists) we see practically no muggleborns just proves the above statistics in Harry's year are the norm. There is probably one or two muggleborns who arrive every year at Hogwarts and they are, overall, a very small present of the population.

This is kind of interesting to me in terms of how much of an issue their very existence is made to be for some wizards in the books, and I thought I should share it since I never see anyone doing maths to calculate population statistics and demographics for the Wizarding Wolrd.

At some point, I should post about the death rates of the two wars with Voldemort along with other stats and timelines I've calculated.

Clearing up misconceptions

So a lot of people seem to believe that Abraxas Malfoy married Druella Rosier, however...

Druella Black[4] (née Rosier) (fl. 1951-1955) was a pure-blood witch who married Cygnus Black III. The couple had three daughters: Bellatrix, Andromeda, and Narcissa Black. " (Harry Potter Wiki)

So who did Abraxas marry? Honestly.... We don't know. All we know is that however it is, they are definitely not a Rosier. Perhaps he married an Avery, Macnair or Mulciber.... Or someone from a different pureblood family entirely.

Another common misconception, constantly being perpetuated by fanfiction cause people just LOVE the idea of a Teeny Tiny Wizarding world :

Dorea and Charlus Potter are James Potters parents.

They are not, as you can see right here:

"James Potter I (27 March 1960 - 31 October 1981),[1] also known as Prongs, was an English pure-blood[3][4] wizard and the only son of Fleamont and Euphemia Potter.[12]" (Harry Potter Wiki)

So what Charlus and Dorea are of James? Well, either They are his grandparents or, my own personal take, his Aunt and Uncle.

Ofc, you are free to write them as his parents if you want but not only you will be essencially erasing and/or flat out ignoring the freaking inventor of Sleekeazy's Hair Potion but also systematically destroying every chance Progstar/Starbucks, Jegulus, Sirry, Drary and whatever the heck the oficial ship name for Regulus Black/Harry Potter is (Regarry? Hagulus? Hargulus???) ever had of happening.

Look, i get why someone would want to destroy Sirry and Regulus Black/Harry Potter and as much as i love progstar, it is not that popular so it's not that surprising that someone would want to kill it. But Do you seriously want to obliterate two of the three most popular crack ships on this fandom, just so you can pretend the wizarding world is even more inbreed than it already is?
