Decided to do some Black and White (with bonus colors so not really but I don’t know how else to call it) for that slow burn romance fic I’m hoping to post the first chapter somewhere this month! I have to have ten chapters written with first editing done before starting the process of posting the first, but I’m almost at the end of the eighth chapter so I think it’s a manageable objective.

Perfectionism makes it hard, but I can’t wait to share this for realsies <3

Below the cut, @fragilecapric0rnn answered some questions about their writing process and some of their recommended work!

Why do you write Steddie?

I think in May of 2022 I was bit by the same bug as everyone else. Before I started writing Steddie, I was on a 4-year fic writing hiatus, and it was like seeing those two interact on screen zapped my brain awake. The chemistry, the potential, the fact that one half of the ship got ripped away from us too soon. All of those components really did something to my brain and I decided I had to write them and I haven’t looked back since!

What’s your favorite trope to READ?

I love a idiots to lovers! These two really have the potential to fit that trope so well!

What’s your favorite trope to WRITE?

Second-chance at romance! If you’ve seen any of my fics, you know that I love and will take any chance to write 90s older steddie, haven’t spoken or seen each other in years, who re-meet and fall in love. It is so them, it is my favorite version of them. It’s the version of them that lives in my head!

What’s your favorite Steddie fic?

There are so many good ones to choose from, but I think I have to go with Show Me the Place Where He Inserted the Blade by the incomparable, the magnificently talented and outstanding Cheatghost. Lou, who I am very proud to call a friend, is one of the most talented people I know and I feel very lucky to have had them brought into my life via the Steddie brainrot.

Is there a trope you’re excited to explore in a future work but haven’t yet?

Is it lame if I say no? LOL. Honestly, I have written almost everything I have felt the need to explore with this pairing. A lot of my ideas moving forward are expansions/continuations of ideas that I already started or have posted before. 

What is your writing process like?

Right now it’s at its most unstructured because I am rawdogging life without my ADHD meds for the first time in 7 years, which has been a whirlwind but I am managing. However, it usually depends on the fic I’m writing! For a lot of my longfic, I have a physical notebook that has an outline and major plot points I want to hit at certain times in my stories. Other times, for the shorter fics/one-shots, I just write them all in one go. It starts with a (usually silly) idea, and then I get possessed by the writing demons, and suddenly, I haven’t moved from my chair in 2 hours and I have four thousand words on my screen. I contain multitudes!

Do you have any writing quirks?

I am a victim of the: One word. One phrase. Lin breaks for emphasis. And I will be doing it until someone who is being paid real money to publish one of my original works tells me to knock it off!

Do you prefer posting when you’ve finished writing or on a schedule?

Again, asking if it’s bad if I say neither? When I first started posting fic again, I was very much writing it all and then posting it over the course of a few days. But now, I tend to write sporadically and post even more sporadically. And I prefer the latter! Fanfiction, and fandom in general, is a collaborative experience in its heart and soul. One of my favorite things about longfic is posting a chapter and seeing what people take away from it, because 9/10 it’ll be different then what the writer thinks they’re going to take away! And the chance to change and rework and let yourself be influenced by other fans of the ship is taken away when you write it all at once and post it all at once.

Which fic are you most proud of?

Anyway, It’s About Old Friends. Even in its unfinished form, it is my magnum opus. My white whale. I have done some of my best writing in it (chapter 2 MY BELOVED) and the fact that its so close to the end is both exciting and terrifying. It is a fic I wrote and continue to write for me, and the fact that other people are reading and enjoying it is a win!

How did you get the idea for It Might Be Worth It For Once?

HA! So, I was chatting with my friend Emily (JudasofSuburbia) about a potential Pornstar!Steve AU offhandedly back in the fall. Then, I got paired with them for a little fic exchange between friends, and it felt natural to take that one off little conversation and turn it into a fic for her. It was one of those fics that started out as a silly idea and then suddenly it’s been six hours and I wrote the whole thing in one go! After some polishing and editing, it became a Pornstar!AU with not as much smut as I expected. It was so fun to write, made even more fun as it was for a dear friend.

When writing Anyway, It's About Old Friends, what was something you didn’t expect?

I didn’t expect it to change and mold and morph in the way that it did. There is a version of this fic where they do hook-up earlier, there’s a version where they re-meet at gay club and not a wedding, there’s a version where Steve marries a Evie and Eddie is Raul. But, this version feels the most right. It’s a story about heartbreak, about finding love (in all it forms) in unexpected places, and it’s about found family most of all. All of that was stumbled on accidentally! My only intention was to write a Steddie-fied When Harry Met Sally fic, and accidentally flashed my heart and soul. Whoops!

What inspired clown music at the disco?

I used to be an opener at a coffee shop and there is something so disorienting and mind altering about having disco music blasting on the speakers at 4am. But, it was in one of those moments, where I was so tired I was nauseous, that the fic idea came to me! I had already been thinking of writing as my first fic, Steve and Eddie accidentally have a Devil’s Sacrament moment at the gay bar, but the line “But it’s Disco Night”, came to me at the ungodly hour of 4 in the morning. What a time!

What was your favorite part to write from you can take the heart from your chest to use as a compass when you are lost?

The Never Have I Ever Scene! It was the first time I wrote the entire party in one scene and it’s chaotic and a little messy but it was one of my favorite parts of the fic. It also made me realize how much I love writing ensemble scenes! Just everyone trying to talk over each other, chaos in its best form.

How do/did you feel writing Catch Me (I'm Falling)?

I wrote this fic in the span of like almost 3 weeks? I was sick and burnt out for most of the time I was writing it, but it was almost a compulsion. I had the idea and I just HAD to write it. No outline, just vibes and Steve Harrington in a cheerleading uniform! I took it down for a while because I was turning it into something else, but then had a change of heart and put it back up. And part of me is glad that I took it down for a moment because people love to be weird about the feminizing Steve’s character, and even though I was writing him as a cheerleader, I tried really hard to keep him earnestly himself, and in character.

What was the most difficult part of writing Anyway, It's About Old Friends?

Writing about San Francisco while being the most homesick I have ever been in my life. Also writing Eddie in those first few chapters as an asshole but not unlikable. I didn’t want him to be “fine” (because no one is fine in this universe, especially not in the beginning) but I also didn’t want him to do or say anything too bad. I think I got a handle on it pretty well.

Do you have a favorite scene and/or line from any of your fics?

In Faces Freedom With A Little Fear, the first scene in the hospital with Steve’s sister. She storms in, threatens federal agents, all for her brother. JJ Harrington you will always be famous!

Do you have any upcoming projects or fics you’d like to share/promote?

Just my current WIPs! Anyway It’s About Old Friends; the When Harry Met Sally AU of my dreams. Hand on My Stupid Heart; the modern AU, where the UD exists but everyone has iPhones and Steve deals with his bisexuality!

Hi, so I am more and more convinced that Buddie won't become canon which breaks my heart. Any advice on how to love this pairing despite the writers setting up something so brilliantly to not follow through? Fanfics, fanart, gifs and videos are beautiful and help a lot, but I feel kind of hopeless because of where we are at and heading, and would really like to resurrect my love for the Buddie ship.

Hi Nonnie! Thank you for this ask.

If that’s what you believe, that is totally legit. I’m not there yet, I might be one day, but I can certainly understand the people who are and this blog is a fully accepting environment for everyone, no matter where you happen to be.

I don’t really have advice other than to say that I really believe fandom should make us happy. Life is hard enough. Genuinely, life is the ultimate struggle, and to me fandom is the happy bubble that’s meant to revitalize and strengthen us by giving us an injection of joy. Fandom shouldn’t be a chore, and it shouldn’t make us sad. So that’s the primary goal in my book, to take care of yourself and make sure you’re doing good.

If fandom does make us sad, I guess there are a couple of things we can try and do, that I can think of off the top of my head:

One is to maybe decide to leave a specific fandom if the source material makes us that unhappy and we don’t believe that might change at some point. That’s legit, and it’s a form of self care.

Another option is to find an additional fandom, get our joy from that one, making what the former fandom couldn’t give us into something that takes us less space in our fandom experience. This is probably for when we’re not happy, but we think there might be a chance for things to get better, or when there’s enough good in this specific fandom that we don’t wanna walk away from it completely.

And then a third option is figure out if there is a way for us to be content even if the source material doesn’t give us what we wanted from it, ever. I think that’s where I personally am at whenever I consider the possibility that Buddie might not become canon. I focus on the fact that I love the show overall. Henren, Madney, Bathena, they make me happy as well, as does the Buckley-Diaz family even in its semi-canon-no-romance form. I don’t wanna throw all that good away even if I never get the canon Buddie that I think we (and Buddifer) deserve. So I focus on what I love, and I also personally have come to realize that in my head, Buddie will always come together, even if it doesn’t happen on our screen. It’ll just happen in a “fill in the blanks” kind of way. ‘Coz I just can’t believe Buck and Eddie wouldn’t eventually get together. It’s not just fic and fanart. It’s just their truth in my mind. It’s the natural progression to what canon has shown us of them, so... it is canon to me, no matter what.

🍒 What’s your favorite character dynamic to write? (Can be romantic or platonic, specific or general!)

oh man there are a few I love! found family is a big one platonic-wise. in terms of romance I adore enemies to lovers and reluctant allies to lovers So Much. I love characters who Get Each Other because of trauma reasons, whether that trauma is shared or not, and I especially love friendship/ally groups where you would not be remotely surprised to learn they’ve had an orgy or all dated each other. yknow, the Queer Experience. and polyam ship wise I am all about each relationship within the polycule providing a different kind of emotional/sexual fulfilment.

porn with feelings and character study. I really fail at writing anything that isn’t very…centred in the POV characters headspace. all my writing has a tendency to veer into character study so I lean into it on purpose. even when I write PWP where a character is getting railed by strangers it still ends up being porn with feelings because it’ll be all about how the character feels emotionally about getting railed by strangers.

🍈 Who’s your blorbo and what are some of your favorite headcanons/ideas about them that repeatedly show up in your fics? Free pass to rant about blorbo opinions.

ok so for Justified my blorbo is absolutely Raylan because I too am a disaster with Daddy Issues. I love to project. I headcanon him as a Libra with a Scorpio Moon and Mars and I think of him as a switch with trust issues that make subbing for anyone other than Boyd difficult in the extreme. I often write him as a lil emotionally clueless and as someone who needs stuff pointed out to him but also as someone who is very aware of some of his flaws - just not others.

Like, he knows he wasn’t a great husband to Winona but he doesn’t know WHY. He can tell when he’s fucked up but can’t tell what the fuck up was. Also absolutely think of him as a late in life gay man who has just repressed the ever living hell out of his sexuality since the moment he hit puberty, just as a defence mechanism. Ironically, I think he would have realised much earlier if he’d stayed in Harlan just because Boyd was there, and I think part of why he left (other than escaping Harlan and Arlo, who he thought of as Harlan personified) was to get away from that burgeoning realisation. Getting away from Harlan meant getting away from Boyd, which meant getting to stay closeted longer.

He’s got a soft spot for blues music. He smothered his accent on purpose because people think he’s uneducated when he speaks otherwise, and he’s not. He didn’t do brilliantly at school but he did decent enough and he read a LOT when he and Boyd worked in the mines because he wanted to have conversations/argue and Boyd’s a sucker for literature. Carver, Verne, Asimov, Hemingway, you name it he’s read it in shitty paperback form. He’s a marginalia note taker too.

Honestly, every single WIP fic I’m following. However, I cannot express how much I need to know where @hogwartsmeangirls‘ The Untold Years is going. The OC, who is the main character, is so well developed and complex. I range from siding with the characters to being so frustrated with them. Really the writing is fantastic (Harry Potter, Tom Riddle x OFC).

A completed multichapter fic that you can binge read

This one was hard because most of the fics I'm following or have favorited are WIP. So I’ll cheat a little and recommend Witchcraft by a Picture which is a dark and twisty Tom Riddle x OFC. It’s been a literal decade since I read this and I still remember it.

A fic you have re-read more than once

Ok, I’ve never read a fic more than once. I don’t know why, I’ve just never gone back and reread one. There are a lot that have stuck with me over the years and I’m going to highlight one of those instead. @valleydean‘s The Sidewalks of New York was such a fun read. It’s a 1920′s Merthur period piece. I love how the characters (and many of them!) were updated to fit the new time and how the forbidden romance was made to work. 

A fic you first read over a year ago that you want to spotlight:

@akabluekat‘s Playing with Fire. Harry Potter was my first fandom and I’ve ready a lot of different fics over the years, but never one featuring a Weasley twin. akabluekat does a lovely job defining her own OCs and flushing out the side characters. The story manages to be a good mix of cute and angsty and I am interested to see if there’s a happy ending or if I’ll be left broken-hearted. (Harry Potter, Fred Weasley x ofc)

A fic that introduced you to a new ship/character/fandom:

@darknightfrombeyond‘s Anthem of the Angels. While I had once been a fan of the show, I had never read a fic for Arrow. This story has the fun twist of being a modern day arranged marriage. You get romance and mystery from the first chapter and I can’t wait to see where it goes (Arrow, Oliver Queen x ofc)

A fic you'd recommend to someone new to your fandom

It’s a WIP but Six Mornings After (@sixmorningsafter) is a great TVD All-human AU, and is worth the read (it’s so well done!). The author has even written collections of flashbacks and flashforwards to accompany this story. (steroline and bamon).

A fic you would recommend to the person who tagged you in this game.

Based off of their recs and fandoms, maybe Rebel Columbia by @starsandstormyseas. I haven't finished it (I am behind on A LOT of fics) but the premise is very interesting .

“It Should Have Been Me” for sure, though none of my fics have straight up “bad” endings. There’s at least a little hope in each one. But with Mother 3 having the whole “Tanetane Island” business, it’s a rough night for all the kiddos after that 🫠

“Philophobia” and “Let Go” are close seconds with hopeful endings.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

“Yoroshiku Matsuoka-san”, the fic based off of the one and only “Issho” by Toasty! It’s still the longest fic I’ve ever written, sitting at almost 12k, and it’s still my fave I’ve posted. It’s all kinds of fluff (with only one angst scene) and ends with Reigen tucking Teru into bed and then giving him the safest, warmest hug 🥺

8. Do you get hate on fics?

LOL I’m not known enough in the fandom to get hate, and I hope I never am 🤣

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Yes, but I keep those fics to myself. Even then, I wouldn’t consider them “smut,” and more like “graphic sex is present in this story, but it’s less about the sex and more about the emotions the characters are feeling.”

Most of them are safe ways for me to explore any type of sexual feelings I have while also sorting out what exactly it is I’m feeling. Because of this, most of them center around asexuality and kinks I’m curious about.

10. Do you write crossovers?

YEEEEES! Yes yes yes! I haven’t posted any, but I have WIPs of:

Super Mario Galaxy x Mother 3 (because Lucas needs a mom and that mom is Rosalina)

Earthbound x Mob Psycho 100 (Psychic kiddo meets psychic kiddo)

Danny Phantom x The Avengers (because I think science obsessed Danny and Bruce Banner would get along preeetty well.)

Breaking Bad x Mob Psycho 100 x The Avenegers (I’m not gonna explain this one. It’s for one of my best friend’s eyes only XD)

Well, I say that, but I have The Big Three which I like all for different reasons.

Ash x Misty (Pokeshipping) for being my very first ship, and it will always have a special place in my heart. (The fluff ship, if you will.)

Bruce Banner x Natasha Romanov (Brutasha) because there is SOOOOOO much potential with these two that the MCU just threw in the garbage and I’m MAD ABOUT IT! I’m writing and drawing what I WANT TO SEEEEEEE!!! (Aka, the angst ship)

And then Terumob, which has been the source of some of the best, most heartbreaking fics I’ve ever read. Get these kids some love. (The perfect blend between angst and fluff).

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Hmmmm not doubt I will, but it’ll take me years XD

It’s “Adrift,” which is my love letter to my favorite fairy tales, musicals, romance tropes, and just life itself.

I can’t see myself finishing it until I’m older though. Simply because the ending is supposed to represent how everything in life will work out in the end, and that there is a plan for each and every everyone of us in life…

… but I don’t know how that ends. I don’t know how my own life story ends, so how am I supposed to know how this one does?

16. What are your writing strengths?

I’m not sure if it’s my strength, but I love writing dialogue!

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Ahdkfhsldjf The process of actually writing and not just daydreaming 🤣

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

Well, since most of my fave shows are from Japan, that would be wild to write all the dialogue in Japanese haha. I’m similar to what Toasty said, where if there isn’t a translation for the word in English, I use the Japanese word with Romaji. I also try to use Japanese Honorifics to the best of my ability.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Super Mario Galaxy! I wrote it for a project in 5th grade lol.

20. Favorite fic you’ve written?

Hmmmmm… finished fic would be “Yoroshiku Matsuoka-san” because I love that it made so many people smile!

But my favorite WIP is both the BB X MP100 x Marvel crossover and “Adrift”. Both fics fit into the category of “I’m writing what I’ve always wanted to read.”

I think I’ve figured out why I like ships in things shared online(tbh mostly fics and aus) but not more traditional media.

It’s just that with online things it’s tagged so I know what I’m getting into. While in more traditional media it just… isn’t. Like I have a book I’m reading for English, the blurb has a monster and it seemed to be a paranormal coming of age with tons of horror and and mostly focused on the woods and mystery of the creature. But there’s nothing else in the blurb. Which yay fun, surprises can be great. Until in part two it’s so focused on romance and relationships and sex. The entire reason I was reading the book(cool horror creature & politics) why I was super keen on reading it(murder & nature) is forgotten in order to have a sudden plot about romance and sex. The main character is 14 by the way so WHY??? Like if there was a desire for a commentary on teenage sex her dad can just be used. And there are constant references to rape as well. And it’s just like. I’m here for horrifying creatures beyond comprehension, and now due to a deadline can’t back out and read something else. And it’s like, if it had tags I could take a glance at them and just not pick it up. Even if it was just a warnings not disclosed thing it’d be better because those are works that you hold at arms length until you get a proper start on them, and for a school assignment it would mean not trapping myself into reading it because you don’t know what’s coming with those. And obviously this is an extreme example but it’s my most current one.

But even just with wholesome romances I like to know that there will be romance ahead of time. Because I pick books to read and shows and movies to watch mostly by their descriptions/blurbs. So I’m there strictly for the plot. But with online published things you know what you’re getting into roughly, because it’s tagged so that people who like that can find it and people who don’t can avoid it. Honestly I wish traditional media did that more. Like you don’t have to say exactly what the ship is but let it be known if romance is going to be a big part of the story. If I’m reading something for gore I don’t want surprise romance. And it’s not even a thing of not liking romance in media, I do quite like it it’s fun, but I like to know when it’ll be there because other wise it’s just disappointing when the pitch of the thing is put to the wayside.

It’s also why I tend to enjoy media I find through osmosis from friends more enjoyable, because I can get some spoilers and know what I’m getting myself into first.

Tl;dr: Traditional media should have tags like ao3 does. If I read one more book to see cool creatures and get blindsided by a romance plot I will cry- in fact I may already because I accidentally trapped myself into reading Ruthie Fear for English class.

Alright, so apparently certain love square shippers felt the need to go into the Lukanette tag to celebrate/mock that Lukanette is “over” (Marinette broke up with him to keep him safe but go off I guess) and that officially crosses all my lines of not dealing with the fandom’s garbage.

The sheer pettiness is astounding to me, to take joy in the end of what was a lot of people’s comfort ship (people don’t choose comfort ships, by the way) because of “toxic Luka/Lukanette stans,” essentially lumping chunks of the fandom together and letting the opinion of those fans shape their own opinion on a character/ship. The sheer sensitivity on display to have so much spite and disdain for a ship that appeared in less than 10% of all episodes in the show. The sheer vindictiveness to feel smug and self-righteous while also being panicked over a non-endgame ship that’s as temporary as their claim of positivity and condemning of salt until they’re presented with something they don’t like.

Goliath really be beating up on David over here because he's bigger and thinks his opinion is more valid. For the record, no, opinions are not more valid due to shipping an endgame ship or presenting oneself as a beacon of positivity.

And it just goes to show how ship-blind these people are, to care about nothing more than the fact that Lukanette has broken up. I’m not exaggerating when I say that I’ve seen people who openly admit to caring more about the love square’s security than Marinette’s happiness, which is just part of the issue here.

These people did not care how Lukanette broke up, only that it happened. Marinette’s crush backpedaling (because of the show feeling the need to cater to these exact people, who are so worried about their obviously endgame ship being “in danger”) and Marinette ending the episode in literal tears because she wanted to date Luka but couldn’t are both things that didn’t matter to them because it’s all about their ship in the end. Marinette’s life has been made more and more miserable due to her crush on Adrien while straining her relationships with various characters (see: Alya’s claim of jealousy as a reason for why Marinette “must be lying” about Lila), but so long as these people feel secure in their endgame ship, that’s all that matters.

They didn’t care if it was a clean break where both sides came out satisfied (or at least content). If anything, they wanted Lukanette to end as shoddily/dirtily as possible with zero care into how it affected Marinette, whether because they just don’t like the ship or because they actively desire for the suffering of the people who found comfort/happiness in the ship. Adrien had literally nothing to do with the break-up itself and him being mentioned served nothing for the story, but it’ll be completely overlooked or outright praised because god forbid Marinette spend an episode not talking about Adrien since that would imply that her life doesn’t revolve around him and that would be an apparent detriment to the love square.

By the way, newsflash: Luka was not an obstacle to the love square. He sent Marinette away in “Frozer” to go talk to Adrien. He told her that there was no pressure and that he’d be happy for her no matter what. Had Luka not existed, the love square would still be as stagnant as it is now, and it’s pathetic to complain about Marinette liking/dating another boy when she’s not only allowed to do so, but when “Oblivio” and “Chat Blanc” both exist as little more than tools to hold the supposedly “starved” love square shippers over.

These are the same people who will say they dislike/hate Luka, then do a 180 and claim that they “just feel so bad for him” and how he “deserves better than Marinette” (the sudden sympathy of which conveniently serves to hate on a ship that interferes with their own, further proven by equally convenient and appreciation/liking of Luka when he’s not a “threat” to the love square) while simultaneously shipping her with their sunshine boy because Ladybug is who Adrien wants and what Adrien wants is what matters.

These are the same people who will say that Luka is unnecessary and unneeded, then use him as a prop and stepping stone for love square fanfics and fanart, or suggest that Kagami is fine because she makes Adrien feel good about himself (when Luka does the same for Marinette but sure).

These are the same people who say that “Marinette can’t date Luka because she’s busy with hero stuff” while making fics about the love square getting together mid-”hero stuff” and then giving complete radio silence during “Chat Blanc” outside of how good they thought the episode was.

These are the same people who will tell others not to denounce Adrien for “a few mistakes” and then preemptively denounce Luka’s behavior based on a written synopsis for an episode that hadn’t even come out yet (and also after complaining that Luka was “too perfect,” I might add).

These are the same people who will say that Luka/Lukanette makes them feel “uncomfortable” (usually without offering any tangible reasons or being vague about Luka giving off “bad vibes” when he’s done nothing less than support and respect Marinette's agency) while the show’s endgame ship features the “m’lady” hand kissing Chat Noir who Ladybug has pulled away from multiple times yet he keeps persisting (which is apparently considered okay because Adrien is Chat Noir as if that discredits her discomfort/disdain for the gestures).

These are the same people who will say that Luka is “barely there” or “hardly exists” and then complain about how much screentime is dedicated to Lukanette, the utter greed on display going right over their heads when they have the actual endgame ship.

These are the same people who will absolutely reach for anything about Luka to complain about (again, after saying that he’s “too perfect,” then claiming he “tricked” Marinette into kissing him, claiming that he tried to force her into telling him her secret, or criticizing him for teasing her for her stuttering despite him immediately apologizing) and then either defend or turn a blind eye to Chat Noir (who tried to kiss her mid-battle instead of helping, made Ladybug feel bad for keeping secrets that weren’t hers to tell plus threatening his kwami that he’d quit if he didn’t get let in on said secrets, and mocked her instead of apologizing when she told him to stop calling her by a nickname she doesn’t like and has told him before to stop calling her) at every opportunity.

These are the same people who will say that Lukanette is “forced,” then proceed to ship Luka (regardless of if they like him or not) with literally anyone else for the sake of taking him out of the romance equation (because he has to be taken out via already dating as they couldn’t come up with a legitimate reason for Marinette to not want him otherwise), and the only requirement for this person he’s shipped with is that they breathe and aren’t Marinette.

These are the same people who act bothered by Marinette “””treating Luka poorly””” because of her crush on Adrien (by the by, Adrien’s crush on Ladybug has hurt Kagami as well), inadvertently admitting that Marinette’s crush is a problem, then continue shipping her with Adrien in its canon form anyway.

These are the same people who will say that they hate salt fics (specifically ones that target Adrien) and how they “bash characters,” then write fanfics or draw fanart that intentionally make Luka out of character for the sake of having him look bad or giving Marinette an excuse to run to Adrien (because Luka apparently needs to be made worse so that Adrien can look good instead of Adrien being able to stand on his own merits as a good love interest for Marinette).

These are the same people who will slam Luka when he’s Marinette’s support, then go off and ship him with other characters so that he can support them instead (fun fact that this is usually either Adrien - thus leaving Marinette completely alone and miserable when Luka canonically likes her - or characters that Marinette is actively against, such as Chloe or Lila).

These are the same people who will complain about how salty the fandom is (even when the salt is for catharsis/getting out anger from an episode in a productive way) and then laugh when a simple side ship ends because they’ve been letting said ship live rent free in their heads and couldn’t stop anticipating the episode that declares them “over.”

These are the same people who tell or suggest that people should “just leave” if they don’t like the main ship, unapologetically implying that the main ship is either all the show is about, all that they personally care about (bringing us right back to that little “not caring how torn apart Marinette is about the break-up” thing), or that people aren’t allowed to watch/like the show for other reasons (like Marinette herself, the miraculouses, other characters who may appear intermittently but nevertheless bring them joy to see, etcetera).

These are the same people who get on other people’s case for being spiteful while they themselves ride their high horse into the sunset, playing victim when people call them out for intentionally provoking others or purposefully mistagging to avoid people’s blacklist (tagging is not for the comfort of the tagger so they can “””avoid the toxic stans,””” for the record; it’s for the comfort of the people who don’t want to see that content).

And these are the same people who will go on and on about the toxicity of the stans who ship something they don’t like and then either ignore or downplay the stans who ship what they do like because they personally don’t have to experience it. This isn’t even about ship wars, it’s about the hypocrisy and lack of self-awareness.

I don’t want to hear it. I don’t want to hear about how cruel the Luka fans or Lukanette shippers are when these people are celebrating Marinette’s misery because it means the end of a ship that they don’t like and certain people find comfort in. I don’t want to hear about people cross-tagging/mistagging when the Luka/Lukanette tag has been flooded with people who talk trash about the ship without any additional tags to filter it away, getting so bad to the point where some Luka/Lukanette fans had to find workarounds and/or avoid the tag entirely. I don’t want to hear about how certain shippers are worse because [x] [y] [z] when everyone has different experiences, showing a severe case of close-mindedness or at least ignorance on these people’s parts.

And, with how this season is heading, if something bad happens to the love square by the end of Season 4, I most definitely do not want to hear these same people decry the people who will do the exact thing that they’re doing now.

5. What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

That’s a tough one, but I’ll have to go with Soul of the Bes’bev. It ends with Fynta being forced to acknowledge out loud the lengths that she’s willing to go to, to the one person that she never wants to disappoint.

6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?

I mean...are we talking smut? Because all of those have happy endings. No? Okay then how about Shenanigans. This fic will always have a special place in my heart.

7. Do you write crossovers?

I have been known to dabble. The only one currently posted is SWTOR/Naruto crossover shared with @dimigex​ involving the disasters that are Fynta Wolfe, Theron Shan, Genma Shiranui, and Kakashi Hatake. The aptly named Tounge-in-Cheek

8. Have you ever received hate on a fic?

One person disagreed with my interpretation of Ma’at as a slave to her families’ expectations rather than a proper slave in Sithy Bunch, but I’d hardy call it hate.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Do I write smut, haha. Yes, actually, I do. Mostly aggressive given my main subject matter. It is also playful or a way to express deep emotion that must never be spoken aloud because scary. There is lots of flirting, plenty of biting, and satisfaction for all.

10. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not in the sense that someone specifically singled it out. Just that it’s shown up on websites without my permission.

Not to my knowledge.

I have, it’s always a fun experience. Namely, Thunder and Scars with @kunoichi-ume​ and Rules of Engagement with @tishinada​

Sadly, probably Generations of War, the continuation of Our Own that introduces Quinn/Sith Warrior and their 4, head strong and very Force sensitive daughters alongside Jorgan’s triplets. I love the story so much, but I have absolutely no idea where to take it. Waht I have published though can be found >HERE<

Action scene, without a doubt. I enjoy writing the flow of a battle or just movement in general.

16. What are your writing weaknesses?

All the squishy, gushy stuff that makes of a romance. Legit, I struggle hard with feelings.

I’ve written a lot of Mando’a into my fics. It was daunting at first, then became fun when I needed to figure out how to string something together to make phrase that wasn’t pre-generated by the online dictionary.

Not really? Two of my fics crossover, but they’re both in the same DC Universe so I don’t think that counts.

I don’t have any posted, yet, but I do write it. The kind depends on the fic and the character perspective I’m writing in. Sometimes it’s more vague, some scenes focus more on the emotion of the moment, and others are more graphic.

I’m not even sure how to answer that. Out of all the fandoms? I definitely can’t choose. Out of my current fics? My all-time favorite ship is probably Grace Blackburn (OFC) and Eliot Greenwood (OMC), from my BTVS fic Things Are Getting A Little Hazy. Their relationship is practically destined.

What’s a WIP that you want to finish, but don’t think you ever will?

My band fic, Soundtrack Of The Revolution. It’s planned out, all 400 chapters of it, but I’ve been working on it for a decade. I’m not giving up, but we’ll see if it ever gets completed.

What are your writing strengths? What are your writing weaknesses?

Someone who’s read my stories would have to tell me my strengths, because I have no clue. I just ramble sentences onto a word document and hope that it makes sense. My weaknesses would probably be my descriptions. I overly describe things and occasionally go off on tangents, which causes my chapters to be ridiculously long. I consider that to be a weakness.

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

I try not to do it, because I’m only fluent in English, but I will write dialogue in another language with the help of Google Translate. If I get it too wrong, hopefully someone will correct me. When I can though, I prefer to just mention that the character is speaking in another language without having to actually write the other language because I don’t want to butcher it.

What was the first fandom you’ve written for?

This question hurts my soul. The very first fandom? It would have to be a band fic, probably Avenged Sevenfold, way back in about 2006. Thankfully, all of those fics have been lost to time and will never be read by anyone ever again. Knowing that helps me sleep at night.

What’s your favorite fic that you’ve written?

This is such an unfair question, because how do I pick just one? My favorite fic, that I have personally written, isn’t posted under this name so it’ll have to remain a mystery. My favorite fic that I’ve written under this name, has to be Soundtrack Of The Revolution. Yes, it’s a band fic even though those stopped being popular over a decade ago. I also realize the irony of my favorite fic being the fic that I'm not sure if it'll ever be completed. It’s the most self-indulgent fic that I have ever written, and I’ve been working on it off-and-on since 2009. Seeing how it’s changed and what has remained the same over the years is mind-blowing, and I truly love the story and the characters. So, yeah, it’s my favorite.

What is Shipping in a Muffin Fic?

So, many of my stories are unfinished, but look to the ones that are and look at the tags. Often, you'll see ship tags for... ships that don't even seem to happen and are not in any way openly acknowledged.

To me, it's about feeling, not about action necessarily.

Someone once called it a "Ghibli Romance" on this blog, and I'm inclined to agree. There's no kissing, no even real acknowledgement of romance, and yet the characters have changed and grown because of one another and hold each other very dear because of it.

I have also been told that every story I write is secretly a love story. I have yet to be able to disagree with that statement.

Lily and the Art of Being Sisyphus

"Lily and the Art of Being Sisyphus" is a lot like that.

It's about Lily and Tom Riddle, specifically Wizard Lenin, and the relationship between them. That relationship, more than any other, drives the fic, and it is a very powerful one.

There's a lot of feelings between them including, yes, love.

However, they will at no point date during the story nor pursue a blatant romance. The story will end when Lily's still much too young. More, it... wouldn't fit, it would detract from the story in a way.

But if that last paragraph is what you mean by romance, then there's none.

Honestly, I think it'll be one of those things where at the end readers will have to tell me if the pairing tags make any damn sense or not. I stand by them, for now, but as is clear I have strange opinions sometimes.

5) What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending? Out of my published ones...R+S+U (unbelievable that I didn’t get cancelled for ending it the way I did lmao). But in a million years when I finally finish it, Broken Like Me won’t exactly have a happy ending (it’ll be bittersweet at best...I know because I wrote the ending first). 

6) What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending? I+C+L+U has a good ending, so do all of the holiday fics I wrote last year. But I think the most satisfying happy ending will be the ending to Flawless (I already wrote this ending too). 

7) Do you write crossovers? If so what is the craziest one you’ve written? I don’t do crossovers! Honestly I don’t read them either. I think they’re off-putting and usually fairly OOC, but if the characters all exist in the same universe (or it’s just written really damn well) then a crossover is more palatable for me. 

8) Do you write smut? If so what kind? Hell fucking yeah I do. The emotionally charged, very plot-relevant, little-to-no cringey vocabulary kind. But not much for this fandom because the audience for it is very small. But for the fantasy romance book fandoms I (mostly) lurk in??? Definitely. 

9) Do you respond to comments, why or why not? I always try to! Except sometimes y’all make predictions that are a little too accurate and I have to avoid responding to those comments so I don’t accidentally spoil something (yikes). 

10) Have you ever received hate on a fic? Nope (thank god). Which is a good thing, because I’m not actually as nice as y’all think I am, and I’d throw (virtual) hands. 

11) Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not that I know of! On the flip side, I’ve definitely accidentally stolen lines/phrases from people. Every once in a while I’ll reread a fic and go “THAT’S WHERE I GOT THAT FROM!!!!! whoops.”

13) Have you ever co-written a fic before? Listen. I swear to you that this pirate AU exists. We have a whole chapter written. I have a good 50% or so of the plot outlined in my head and in our shared google doc. However none of us have worked on it in months so......

14) What’s your all time favorite ship? Not to out myself as the kid who was obsessed with Percy Jackson but....PERCABETH. They really invented love. Second place is Rowaelin (from the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J Maas), and third place is MacRiley (no shade to my Team Spy Siblings friends though....tbh if the show hadn’t set them up romantically I never would’ve even considered it). 

15) What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will? That aliens fic I’ve teased for a solid year. The goal was to see if I could write an episode of the show (which I totally think I could), but I just don’t have a plot for this one. Only the resolution and some comic relief. But the basic premise is that Mac, Riley, and maybe Bozer (aka our resident nerds) get sent to examine a UFO that crash-landed in the middle of fucking nowhere, which of course sends everyone down the rabbit hole of alien theories, but the UFO ends up being something.....significantly less cool. If any of you gen writers want in on this, hit me up and we can co-write it. 

16) What are your writing strengths? DIALOGUE. FORESHADOWING. also filling in the nuances of a plot once I have the bare bones in place. 

17) What are your writing weaknesses? Brainstorming said bare bones of a plot lmao. And describing settings is the bane of my existence. 

18) What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic? Super dope as long as a) the reader can understand what’s happening via context clues or brief translation in the main language (presumably English) b) it’s used to develop the plot/character(s) in some way, i.e. a spy’s helpful skill or part of someone’s cultural background. 

19) What was the first fandom you wrote for? MacGyver is the first (and only) fandom I’ve finished and published fics for. Everything else (many of which I started pre-Mac) isn’t developed enough to necessarily count.

Oof, warning for major character death, but that’s gotta be A Hero, A Legend, A True Best Friend. It’s a canon divergence Moana fic where she didn’t make the connection that Te Ka and Te Fiti are the same person in time, and Maui is killed as a result. 

The fic as a whole is pretty....oof, but it was definitely a super tough ending to write

Yeah, back when I was still exclusively posting to ff.net, I got slammed on one of my rupphire fics, claiming I “must be some stupid 12 year old who has no real world experience with romance” just because they thought it felt rushed

…even though the confession was seven whole-ass chapters into an 11-chapter fic.

I was genuinely heartbroken when I got the message because neither were true, but now I’m like ???? twenty thousand words in is too rushed???? what????

Not yet, but I’ve thought about writing it in the past.

Gah, I hate to say it, but I think it’ll probably be the Gravity Falls AU fic I had where Ford accompanies Dipper and co. to Mabeland. It was supposed to diverge from canon where Dipper begged Ford to please go look for Mabel before going after Bill and he caved, and there was going to be a big dramatic speech in Mabeland that Ford was going to give in the courtroom to Mabel about understanding the feeling that fantasy is always going to hurt less than reality and how Gravity Falls was like his bubble when he was younger, etc etc

I loved the idea to bits, but I got stuck figuring out how it could coincide with Dipper’s speech about growing up together, because I wasn’t willing to sacrifice that for plot reasons

What are your writing strengths?

Dialogue. Once I get into the meaty dialogue parts of my fic I go absolutely feral. Often times the dialogue is the first part of the fanfic I ever come up with, and just have to figure out how to write the other ends of it.

What are your writing weaknesses?

Finding a good stopping point for a fic is usually the biggest struggle for me. i’ll write and write and write and then go, oh shit, I don’t know how I want to wrap this up. It’s not a matter of word count, because I have the same problem even when the fics are under 2k long. Do I end on a joke? a bittersweet note? A kiss? A hug? I have no idea.

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

If the character speaking is multilingual and it’s a short piece of dialogue, than be my guest! But if it’s the entire fic, or a long piece of dialogue, I think it’s easier to use the fic’s primary language and add a dialogue tag indicating they’re speaking in a different language.

[Ex. “I’ll see you after school, Mom. I love you!” she said in Spanish.] 

You know character is speaking a different language, but it’s also clear what they’re saying to non-speakers of said language. 

What was the first fandom you wrote for?

I was obsessed with this game on the teen nick website as a kid called Avatar High. One time I accidentally wiped my save file after two in-game years of progress and was absolutely devastated, so to cope I took out a notebook and wrote a fic about my character’s adventures and what they would’ve been doing now had the file not been wiped.

What’s your favorite fic you’ve ever written?

awaken the stars, cause they’re all around you by an absolute longshot. I’ve been weak in the knees for the platonic soulmate trope for ages, and I had so much fun writing this one. It was originally intended to cap off at around 2.3k, but because I had so much fun writing it, it ended up ballooning to 7.6k instead.
