Book recs: Queer fantasy, part 1
A note: queer here does not necessarily mean “guarantee of an f/f or m/m ship with a happy ending”, but rather simply a significant presence of queerness. Some of the books feature no romance but has a same gender attracted/trans/a-spectrum lead, or features an m/f relationship with bisexual, trans or aro/ace characters, or simply features a world-building which is heavily queer inclusive in ways that don’t always compare to our own ideas of sexuality and gender. I have however disqualified works where the only queer presence is along the lines of “gay best friend” or a blink and you’ll miss it confirmation that never comes up again.
For queer sci-fi recs, click here! For a masterpost of book rec lists, click here! For more details on the books recommended here, continue under the readmore. Titles marked with * are my personal favorites!

The Spear Cuts Through Water by Simon Jimenez*
AKA the book the killed me. Two boys travel throughout their land with the body of a god as her horrible, horrible children try to hunt them down. It’s hard to explain more than that, but trust me when I say the narrative voice and literary techniques are incredibly unique in how they blend past and present, reality and story, lead and bystander. Truly an experience. Features an m/m romance.
The Unbroken (Magic of the Lost series) by C.L. Clark*
Tourraine, who was stolen as a child and trained as a soldier for the empire that conquered her home, is recruited by Luka, the future leader of the conquering country, to root out a rebellion. A game of twisted loyalties and attraction is soon to develop as the two must decide where their priorities lie: with each other, or with their respective countries and people.
Sing the Four Quarters (Quarters series) by Tanya Huff*
Though a royal by birth, princess Annice renounced her throne to become a bard, a musician who through training can Sing elemental spirits to do their bidding. Ten years later, she goes on the run for two counts of treason, first by imperiling the succession order by becoming pregnant, second by helping her ex, and the father of her child, escape the palace dungeons and a death sentence. Bisexual lead in an f/f relationship. When I first read this book I described it as, and I quote, 'a fucking delight', and I stand by that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Unspoken Name (The Serpent Gates duology) by C.L. Clark*
The sort of portal fantasy you get when all the worlds connected by portals are fantasy worlds, and none of them are ours. The portals themselves become simply a part of the worldbuilding that the characters use to travel between fascinating places, and it’s all really cool. It follows Csorwe (lesbian orc assassin whom I love), who grew up in a cult, indoctrinated as a child sacrifice to a god. But on the day she was meant to die, she instead chose to follow a powerful wizard and train to become his loyal servant and sword. Aside from being an excellent fantasy, it’s also a close look at the hard path of unlearning indoctrination and the search for love and validation where you’ll never find it, and learning to live for yourself. Multiple queer leads.
The Jasmine Throne (The Burning Kingdoms series) by Tasha Suri
A princess held captive by her own brother, who wants to see her dead, tries to trick a servant into helping her escape, but with undeniable attraction growing between them and the servant having her own goals of liberation things quickly get complicated, both between them and in the country at large as rebellion and dangerous magic brews. Sapphic romance.
The Priory of the Orange Tree (The Roots of Chaos duology) by Samantha Shannon
Queen Sabran's lineage has protected the country of Inys from dragons for a thousand years, but now the safety of their land is threatened as Sabran is yet to conceive and assassins are closing in. Lady-in-waiting Ead is secretly part of a society of hidden mages, and is using her position to protect her queen. Meanwhile, on the other side of the sea, dragonrider Tané is faced with an impossible choice. The fates of all three are intertwined as they attempt to stop the rise of a great dragon. 800+ page epic fantasy. Sapphic romance.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Raven and the Reindeer by T. Kingfisher*
Young adult, fairy tale retelling of the Snow Queen. When Gerta's friend Kai is stolen away by the evil Snow Queen, Gerta must depart on a mission to save him. On the way, she encounters, among others, a talking raven and a pretty robber girl who become her allies. Sapphic romance.
The Rise of Kyoshi (Kyoshi duology) by F.C. Yee*
Young adult. Set in the Avatar universe, but aimed at an older audience than the animated series. Though she will one day be one of the most well-known avatars of the land, for now, young Kyoshi is but a humble girl who has yet to find out her true destiny as the bender of all four elements and keeper of balance of her world. When betrayal strikes and a dear friend is lost, Kyoshi goes on the run alongside fiesty firebender Rangi to find out the truth of her destiny and power. Sapphic romance.
Legends & Lattes (Legends & Lattes series) by Travis Baldree
Viv is tired of adventures and bloodshed - now she wants a peaceful life, and decides to go after it by opening a café. But going from warrior to small business owner is easier said than done, especially when Viv's old life comes knocking. Best described as a cozy fantasy, with a largely low-stakes but heartwarming plot and a sapphic romance.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Phoenix Extravagant by Yoon Ha Lee
Gyen Jebi is an artist, but making a living is difficult. When offered a job by the Ministry of Armor to paint the magical sigils that animate their automaton soldiers, they have little choice but to accept. But as Jebi sees the dark depths of the government, especially the shocking source of their magical paint, they must find a way to resist. Perhaps by freeing the Ministry's mighty automaton dragon... Nonbinary main character.
Crier's War by Nina Varela
Young adult. Who says sci-fi has monopoly on robots? In Crier’s War, artificially created automae have defeated and subjugated humans, who live as second class citizens. Young Ayla goes undercover as a servant, meaning to assassinate automae girl and Sovereign’s daughter Crier. This would be easier if the two weren’t quick to develop feelings for each other.
Black Sun (Between Earth and Sky trilogy) by Rebecca Roanhorse
In a pre-columbian inspired world, sea captain Xiala, gifted with an unusual connection to the sea, travels with a mysterious scarred and blind passenger toward a dangerous goal as prophecy heralds the return of a god. Features among others bisexual and nonbinary leads.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin*
In a world regularly torn apart by natural disasters, a big one finally strikes and society as we know it falls, leaving people floundering to survive in a post apocalyptic world, its secrets and past to be slowly revealed. We follow a mother as she races through this world to find and save her daughter, stolen away by a father who just murdered their son after having discovered a terrible secret of their family. Does feature multiple queer characters and a main polyam relationship, but DO NOT read this expecting happy queer relationships as this series handles many dark subjects (you should still read it though, it's incredibly good).
In Other Lands by Sarah Rees Brennan*
Young adult. Kids who can walk between our world and a magical one get recruited into a magical school that trains them to be either fighters or diplomats. Our lead decides that fighting is stupid and that he’s going to peacefully solve every conflict ever, all while being the most delightfully obnoxious little brat possible and getting involved in the most bisexual love triangle imaginable. Very good, funny, and heart-felt coming of age story.
Our Bloody Pearl D.N. Bryn
A siren who’s been held captive by a pirate is freed, but too injured to survive on their own as their tail has become paralyzed. Another pirate captain decides to help them out and has to work to win their trust. Fairly fluffy and light on world-building and plot (though there is a bit of a revenge story in there), with a focus on character and recovery. m/nb romance with an asexual love interest.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A Master of Djinn by P. Djélí Clark
Set in an alternate 1910’s steampunk Cairo, where djinn and other creatures live alongside humans. We get to follow an investigator as she races to catch a criminal using a powerful object to control djinn and stir unrest. Fantastically creative and fresh, and also features a buddy cop dynamic between two female leads as well as a sapphic romance.
Black Water Sister by Zen Cho*
As a toddler, Jessamyn Teoh left Malaysia. Now a young adult, she’s broke, closeted, and moving back. There she’s faced with the ghost of her estranged grandmother, Ah Ma, who was a medium and avatar of the deity the Black Water Sister in life. Now she demands Jess' help in exacting revenge against a gang boss that offended her god. Meanwhile, all Jess wants is to get her life back on track.
Heaven Official's Blessing (Heaven Official's Blessing series) by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu
Once, Xie Lian was the beloved crown prince of a kingdom. Then he rose to godhood at a young age, and was expected to take a step back from his land and his people, but in his inability to do so ended up losing everything. Now, eight hundred years later, Xie Lian has ascended to godhood for a third time, forgotten by mortals and the laughing stock of Heaven. Trying to rebuild his reputation, Xie Lian sets off on a mission, and on it encounters an infamous demon king who inspires fear in all of heaven. M/M romance.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jane, Unlimited by Kristin Cashore*
Young Adult. Jane is invited by an old acquaintance to an extravagant gala in an island mansion, stranding her among the rich and glamorous. But being surrounded by rich people is the least of Jane’s problems: the mansion is housing secrets, some of them tied to Jane’s own family. The mansion offers her five choices, all of them leading her down different paths and different answers. Jane, Unlimited is a choose-your-own adventure story of sorts, featuring five different endings in five different genres, each more off the wall bonkers than the next. It also features a bisexual main character!
Every Heart a Doorway (Wayward Children series) by Seanan McGuire*
A tumblr favorite, the Wayward Children novellas feature a school open to children who have returned from adventures in other realms and now have trouble adapting back to regular life. Some installments are set in our world, others follow children as they have their otherworldly adventures. The main characters vary between books, but are generally pretty diverse with among others asexual, trans, intersexual and sapphic leads. Both funny and dark, it takes a closer look at the trauma many endure growing up different.
The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern*
Surreal and fairy tale-esque, The Starless Sea is stories within a story, following graduate student Zachary as he finds a strange book which, in-between other tales, tells a story from his own childhood. Trying to find out how this came to be, Zachary gets involved with a pink-haired woman and a handsome man who are doing their utmost to protect a strange, otherworldly library available only through magical doors. It’s a book hard to put in words, but which I once described as “romantic without being a romance while stile having a love story at it’s core”, and which can be summed up only as “an Experience”. It’s also quite gay!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not Even Bones by Rebecca Schaeffer*
Young adult. Nita isn’t a murderer - technically. She just dissects the bodies of supernatural beings her mother brings home and sells for parts on the black market. But when her mother brings home a still living victim, Nita has had enough and frees him. As it turns out, no good deed goes unpunished as Nita is betrayed, her own nature as a supernatural entity outed as she’s kidnapped and placed behind bars. Now she must find a way to escape before she's sold for parts. Features two aroace leads and a queerplatonic relationship, though it isn’t made textual until book 3 and briefly masquerades as a romance, which is pretty hilarious.
The Last Sun (The Tarot Sequence) by K.D. Edwards
Urban fantasy. Rune Saint John is the only survivor of the massacre against the Sun Court years prior. Now he’s been hired by Lady Judgement to find her missing son, Addam. Alongside his companion and bodyguard Brand, Rune goes on to question Addam's family and business contacts all over New Atlantis, island city and home of the Atlanteans after their original home was destroyed by ordinary humans. But the more he digs, the more Rune finds clues that Addam's absence is connected to Rune's own tragic past. M/M romance.
Gossamer Axe by Gael Baudino
Centuries ago in Ireland, Chairiste Ní Cummen was trained in the secrets of music and magic. But her pride was her downfall, trapping her and her lover in the land of the Sidh. Only Chairiste escaped, hoping to one day win her lover's freedom in musical battle with the fairy that holds her captive. Now she is Christa Cruitare, harp teacher in the modern world and all but resigned to her loss. Until she comes across a great new music: heavy metal. Taking one last chance to win her lover's freedom, Christa sets out to gather other skilled musicians and bring them with her in her final battle. Sapphic romance.
Bonus AKA I haven't read these yet but they seem really cool
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pantomime (Micah Grey trilogy) by Laura Lam
Young adult. On the surface, Gene's life is that of a noble debutante. In reality, she has secrets: she's both male and female, and has magical abilities that hasn’t been seen in an age. In the face of a betrayal from her parents, Gene runs away from home, dresses up as a boy, and joins a circus. Intersex main character.
Ghost Walk by Kay Solo
Maaya Sahni can see ghosts, and does her best to survive in her small isolated town by keeping her head down. But when an entire street full of people is spirited away by faceless specters that scares even ghosts, Maaya must find a way to stop the specters. Lesbian main character.
Swordspoint (Riverside series) by Ellen Kushner
In Riverside, duels are the way to settle disputes, and Richard St. Vier is the undisputed master of the sword - at least until a death is met not with awe but with outrage. M/M romance.

MK1 is a major step back on the little queer representation the Mortal Kombat series has
Now, Mortal Kombat hasn't ever been particularly avant-garde about LGBTQ+ representation. I'm aware of that. But with MK1 they've proved something to me: they're cowards.
Reworking SubScorp, basically the ship with a 20+ year lore and the most fandom activity of this entire franchise, into some weird, pseudo-incestuous thing for absolutely no reason, is already a step back. Making Tanya's and Mileena's relationship into this "impossible romance" (AKA a very convenient way of leaving things ~ implicit ~ ) and then proceeding to shift focus entirely to Tanya/Rain in the Khaos expansion is another step back (yes, Tanya is bisexual and that's not a problem, don't put words in my mouth - I mean to say they found a convenient way of giving her sapphic relationship little explicit subtext and then ran to focus on her M/F relationship).
Genderbending an originally male character (Sektor) to make it more palatable to the audience when you try to build chemistry with a male character is also such a display of cowardice. How does no one in this massive well-funded studio have balls to display an explicitly queer ship on screen like they display the straight ones?
They took the laziest approaches possible and I wish more people were talking about this, not gonna lie. At least with Kung Jin, who seems to have been banned to the shadowrealm for now, they gave him a little plot line portraying homophobia as a genuine fear many of us have. The "me" who played MKX was terrified of coming out at the time and having Raiden acknowledge and accept him made me sob in a good way.
It's frustrating to see this retrogression as a fan for 15~ years.

HOW DO ANY HOMOPHOBIC MORTAL KOMBAT FANS EVEN EXIST?? DID Y'ALL JUST NOT PAY ATTENTION TO KUNG JIN, MILEENA AND TANYA IN MKX? OR MILEENA IN MK11? OR MILEENA AND TANYA IN MK1??
Tumblr media
EDIT :
Kung Jin is a confirmed gay man, Mileena is confirmed to be bisexual. (I'm unsure if Tanya is also bisexual or if it's unconfirmed yet.) They are explicitly stated. So, only three characters, out of hundreds of named Mortal Kombat characters, are confirmed to be queer.
It's clear nobody is 'forcing' anything, or 'making everything LGBTQ+', because those three examples are the only canon characters apart of our community. You can just block the ship tags, the lgbtq tag, or the people who post that art / fanfictions, you're making a huge issue out of something that takes less seconds to solve than putting on a sock.
If a character has a spouse and kids, it's in no way confirming that they're straight. To believe that is ignoring the bisexual people in real life who have children and a spouse, it's ignoring the fact that bisexual is attraction to all genders, including the opposite, and if a bisexual person wants kids? That's great! It doesn't make them any less bisexual.
It's rather disingenuous to claim you 'have no issue' with our community, but then turn around and be genuinely disgusted or even angry when ships or headcanons are made about us.
It's telling when you only focus on the LGBTQ+ aspect of that headcanon or ship. It's telling when you, only after the post is made and you're rightfully getting harmless criticisms, mention cishet ships and headcanons offhandedly because 'look guys! I'm not homophobic!' Even though you never actually mention what ships or headcanons you dislike, just that you dislike a few.
Unless they're LGBTQ+. In which case you go in vivid detail, you describe how frustrated you get, how it's clearly 'new fans' despite the fact that queer people and their ships + headcanons have been a part of fandom space, since fandoms existed.
To bring up past timelines when you're specifically referring to Mortal Kombat 1 is plain stupidity, Liu Kang changed Tarkat from a species to a disease, it's not hard to believe a character could be trans or gay when before they were hinted otherwise.
It proves that, for you, it's not about shipping or headcanons, or new fans, or fandoms in itself. It's about the fact that our community is gaining acceptance, we're being seen as normal, because we are normal, and we shouldn't be treated as 'it NEEDS to be confirmed to be true.' But for cishet people? Oh, EVERY character is cishet, that's just the 'default'.
Oh, and, by the way, it isn't 'good representation' if you can't actually tell if the character isn't cishet/allo, if it takes years for you to realise Kung Jin is gay, that means his queerness was written badly, which it was. If straight men characters get to flirt with women, and straight women characters get to flirt with men, why can't men flirt with other men, or women flirt with other women?
If cis male characters get to talk about their bodies, and cis female characters talk about their bodies, why can't transgender characters talk about being transgender or how it affects their bodies?
If your audience needs to go to a twitter post or ask around to check what your character's sexuality/gender is, you've quite literally just failed at writing.
Beside that, there's nothing wrong with believing a character is straight or cis, either! Just, don't be awful to those who believe differently, don't send threats, just because somebody believes a character is a part of our community.

Big agree with what you said about Johnshi. I've been in fandoms for a fuckton long time and this isn't new but damn does it bother me that in the year 2023 we still have to go through this.
It isn't only how the story goes for both Kenshi and Johnny (they meet at their lowest, go through hell together and come out of it as better people). It's also the banter in the intros (not only between them but also the fact that Kenshi and Johnny talk about each other to the others). And don't get me started with how their designs work : the blindfold is now forever tied to Johnny and the whole red/blue design going on.
But no. We can't have what would be the most organic relationship in the whole MK1 story. Instead we have Syzoth and Ashrah (which, don't take me wrong I LOVE them both) who happen to breath in the same room and possibly bond outside of the mainstory?
Agh sorry for the rant but sometimes I get bitter bc we couuuld have it aaaaaall >:(
EXACTLY 😤😤 I AM SO MAD!!!
Let me rant some more about this.
NRS was the first to introduce the first ever gay character in the fighter style video games. Love them for it, love that Taleena is canon. However, they're still pussayh for not making johnshi canon.
So i have been fangirl for more than a decade and IT IS ALWAYS THE SAME DAMN PROBLEM WITH BIG PRODUCTION COMPANIES they're so afraid of public backlash.
Let me tell you why not making Johnshi canon situation is different from Taleena and Kung Jin by opening big ass can of worms.
1. MK is dominated by cis hetero males. Yes, many people from various bg play the game, but it is undeniably true that the majority of fan base is men.
2. There's a phenomenon called the fetishization of lesbian and bisexual women. I am aware that I'm being controversial by saying this, but this fetishization makes the general public be more "accepting" of lesbain couple than the rest of the queer community, and it resonates mostly in straight men where they see queer women as objects that are simply putting on a show for the enjoyment of those watching.
This leads to my next point that it is a high probability that Taleena is allowed to be canon because the backlash from the cis hetero male fan base will be less than having gay relationship in the game. And let me tell you, Taleena interaction is bare minimum in the story mode!! I mean, yeah, they're trying to hide their relationship from others and the story is not exactly focused on them but they can be so much more! I can gloss over the lack of taleena content but was hoping for more in the future installment. But guess fucking what? Alternate universe Tanya and Mileena are rumored to be married to men in the upcoming mk1 side story.
Like imagine the vast possibility of having alternate universes where you can notch up the teased Forbidden Lovers trope but instead of having Taleena being happily united, NRS makes their only queer relationship straight???? *maniacal laugh* Honestly i will fight NRS on SIGHT. In my eyes, this only proves that they don't really care about queer representation, they're just filling the diversity qouta.
3. With what i said, NRS is a fucking coward for not making their popular male characters gay. You might bring up my boy Kung Jin but listen to me, debuting new queer character and making existing fan favorite character queer are completely different things. Kung Jin is first introduced in MK X and his sexual orientation is subtly suggested in the game. While Johnny Cage has been rated among the top Mortal Kombat characters by various gaming media publications.
If NRS made Johnny gay and in a relationship with Kenshi, imagine how fucking big the media coverage of them would have been. Literally, the second coming of that beer company queer backlash would have happened. Every gaming news outlet would be making articles on it. Johnshi would be trending on twitter.
I understand that it would be quite a risk to that to your business but guess what? They gave the most organic, the most heartfelt, the most tender story arc (ok i could be lil baised but you cant deny the chemistry) then slapped good ol' guys being pals and best friends forever crap on them 🙃
If Johnny and Kenshi were opposite gender, no cap, NO FUCKING CAP THAT THEY WOULD HAVE A FUCKING COUPLE.
4. I think Johnshi arc takes almost half of the story mode because we go through Johnny, Raiden, Kenshi, Baraka, Ashrah, Syzoth POVs till they come back from Outworld mission and in every chapter, Johnny and Kenshi get significant moments. And those moments are exclusive to only two of them, specifically tailored to them.
People say they're just friends, but i think the difference really shines if you consider that Kung Lao and Raiden are equally friends with them too. During outworld mission, Kung Lao has minimal dailogues and screen time when Johnny and Kenshi have interaction. If Kenshi and Johnny were just friends, they should have shown Kung Lao's reaction to Kenshi's blinding, Kung Lao's worry for Kenshi in the Shang Tsung's real laboratory, Kung Lao's line for Kenshi's regained sight RIGHT ALONG SIDE WITH JOHNNY.
What Kenshi and Johnny have exclusively belongs to them. That sets the difference between platonic friendship and the connection of those two.
Straight couples have less fucking interaction than one fucking scene and they are magically together. So tell me why the fuck Johnshi is not real
They SHOULD BE REAL and I'm so DONE with NRS

I'm so confused about Mileena's sexuality, in MKX and MK11, it's implied that she and Tanya are bisexual, but in a dialogue with Johnny Cage in MK1, Mileena says "you are not my type cage, pay attention" what does that mean? That in this new timeline she's a lesbian instead of bi? Or is Johnny just not the kind of man she would date?
Please don't take this as "she should like men too! not be a lesbian!!! 😡" I support ALL types of sapphic women, but I'm really confused here.

(Khameleon supremacy)
Tumblr media
Khameleon: My friend, Tanya here, is bilingual.
Tanya: yep
Khameleon: Which means she likes girls and boys.
Tanya: Khameleon, that's bisexual.
Khameleon: that too.
----------
Tanya: So, what's your deal? Are you one of those girls who's all dark and mysterious? Then, she takes off her glasses and that amazingly scary ear spike, and you realize that you know, she was beautiful the whole time?
Mileena: I don't wear glasses.
Tanya: Then you're halfway there.
-----------
Jade: I know you have a goner for Princess Mileena.
Tanya: A what?
Jade: A goner. A girl boner. I saw it at the night of the festival. It's distracting.
Tanya: Yeah, that's not a thing, and you're not the boss of me. So...
Jade: You took an oath.
Tanya: That oath cost the umgadi two girls already. I'm pretty sure they need me. *starts walking away*
Jade: I can see your goner through those leggings!
Tanya: That's my dick.
------------
Khameleon to Mileena, Kitana, Jade, and Tanya: Guys, there's going to be some haters out there. They're going to look at us, Team Edenia, and be like, 'Why is the most talented one Zeterran?'
-------------
Mileena: Would you like to have sex later?
Tanya: No! *winks*
Mileena: Okay, you said no, but you winked, so that's a no, then?
Tanya: 100% no! *winks*
-------------
Khameleon: Here is my wall of inspirational people.
Tanya: Is that a picture of you?
Khameleon : Yes, I am big enough to admit that I am often inspired by myself.

MEET MY MC
HARSHITH SHARMA
Tumblr media
Birthday: 20th March, 1994
Meaning of Name: Joyous, Cheerful, Happy .
Nicknames: Harsh (By friends, parents) , Dork (By Tanya)
Pronouns: He/Him (cis guy)
Sexuality: Biromantic and Bisexual. However, he is still closeted to his family. Only Tanya knows about it.
Personality: Leans towards the 'lawful neutral' image. Ambivert who enjoys his alone time as much as social time. hard-working, charismatic and caring. He is willing to go to any lengths to protect the people he loves (and his patients as well), and an extremely trustworthy person.
Parents: Both his parents are from New Delhi, India and were the first doctors in their respective families. His dad is a neurosurgeon while his mother is a gynecologist. Their inspiration and how they help people is what inspired Harshith to become a doctor.
Siblings: He has a younger sister Tanya (my VoS MC), who works as a reporter in New York. Harshith's time in med school strains their relationship for a period of time, but both share a really good relationship.
Home: He was born in New Delhi, but his family migrated to Chicago when he was 13. He goes to The University of Columbia for his med school, and eventually settles in Boston after his residency in Edenbrook.
Religion: His family are orthodox Hindus, but Harshith does not insist on following the practices on a daily basis, except on special occasions like festivals and before exams.
Hobbies: Harshith is an AMAZING guitar player, but unfortunately he never joined any of the music clubs in school out of fear, and he is an excellent chef, signature dish being aloo parathas. Additionally, he enjoys having video game nights with Elijah, as it feels like it keeps him close to home.
Love life: He used to have a girlfriend in high school and they maintained long distance relationship when he was in Columbia, but eventually he found out that she was cheating on him when he returned to Chicago to surprise her. Since then, Harshith swore off on dating until he got close to Aurora (idc about canon). In my HC, Harshith proposes to Aurora at the last day of their residency.
Other facts:
Once, as a kid, Harshith tried faking an injury with red markers and tons of band-aids.
He enjoyed taking care of Tanya when they were kids, like helping her with homework, making sure she took her vitamins on time, as his parents used to be busy most of the time.
He is a complete nerd for sports cars and F1 racing.
At a point of time in high school, his classmates used to pay him for doing their assignments.
His favorite possession is a play doctor coat he had as a kid, and the Rolex watch his dad gifted him after he got his residency in Edenbrook.

What if Jesse from breaking bad met the Denali after moving to Alaska?
Anon.
Jesse survives Walt, he survives Nazis, the hunt for him after he escapes said Nazis and his crazy journey to get to Alaska, and now you're making him deal with the Denali? You cruel, cruel, anon. Let the boy be happy in Alaska.
But alright, let's make Jesse Pinkman suffer.
The Denali and Men
I was going to give Jesse an out in that, while he's good looking, it's a particular type of look. He's very 2000's uh... I don't even know what to call it, beanie wearing, baggy pants, guy is I guess it.
Point being, it's a look the Denali may not necessarily be into.
However, we don't really know what the Denali are into.
We know their lovers are presumably all men (at least no one brings Bella scandalous news of them being rabid bisexuals) but we never see one of their lovers or even hear about types.
We know Tanya really wants to bang Edward, who is a reedy boyband looking intellectual, and we know that Laurent had fun times with all the sisters (and he's a... vagabond ex-courtier? Whatever the fuck that looks like?) But beyond that...
I have my headcanons, of course, but they're really based on nothing but vibes. Tanya probably likes the pretty boy type based on Edward (which Jesse is if he dressed differently but not really because he doesn't dress differently) but beyond that I always pictured very beefy strong looking young men.
My point is, I can't say they wouldn't be into Jesse though.
So, we'll just assume they are.
Poor Jesse.
Jesse and His New Neighbors
Jesse's keeping his head down and constantly keeping track of his money. He realizes he's lucky in that he's not as recognizable/as big as Walter White, but he doesn't have the money to move again and he wants this to work.
As usual, Jesse's genuinely trying to turn his life around.
Thanks to the Nazis, Jesse probably is through withdrawal for meth already (as I doubt they were letting him smoke the merchandise while he lived in a cage) and I imagine as, since this is his second go around being off the stuff, he's very wary of starting again given how thoroughly it ruined his life.
You're looking at a very jumpy guy who keeps to himself.
He has very few neighbors and most of them are seasonal, ditching for winter, Jesse prefers that.
Except the trio of blonde aliens.
I imagine one of them comes up to his house (as Jesse's not going to pubs) and says something along the lines of, "Well, hello neighbor!" very flirtatiously.
Jesse stares, panics as he knows he doesn't have any close neighbors, that's the entire fucking point.
"Ah, hey there," he says, waiting for them to recognize him as Jesse Pinkman.
The lady, Tanya, doesn't seem to know who he is and he realizes that she may be just... flirting with him aggressively. There's something about her that's bothering him, though. He doesn't think she's on something, exactly, but her skin looks hella weird, she's barely wearing any clothes for the temperature, and her eyes are fucking yellow.
She's probably on some shit, he figures.
"Look, lady," Jesse eventually cuts her off, "I think you're nice and all, but I'm really not interested."
(Tanya is very embarrassed over this, as here she is being rejected by this punk who should be grateful for her attention, but tries not to let it show.)
"Oh, that's alright," Tanya says with a laugh, "I swear I didn't mean anything. I think we should be friends."
Jesse doesn't want to be friends and politely, but strongly, implies as much.
It doesn't work as Tanya returns with her alien sisters.
Jesse's Neighbors Who Won't Fucking Leave
Jesse doesn't know what they fuck they're on but it's freaking him out.
Their eyes change color, they look identical and weird with some skin condition, they don't seem to feel cold, and he saw one of them break a doorknob with her bare hands.
They also really, clearly, want to fuck him.
Trouble is, Jesse's lived through Nazis in a pit.
Unlike what I presume is the case with most Denali customers, Jesse is both extremely wary already and has stared death in the face. I imagine he'd think that whatever they do to him if he refuses their implied advances is a lot better than what would happen to him if he gave in.
I imagine the sisters are thoroughly flummoxed by this and insulted. It's become kind of a competition as to who can sleep with Jesse but this guy just isn't giving in and isn't much fun.
I...
Can't believe it.
But I think Jesse actually makes it.
As he never, ever, goes over to the Denali house and is very firm in his "no" there's no wheedling into thinking he wants it as is likely the usual case.
The only place Jesse might get into trouble is if he runs into one of the Denali's other lovers and tries to help them but...
I don't know if Jesse would, not after what happened to him, and not after having so much to lose.
He just lives with the fact that his neighbors are drug addict cannibals.

MK1 Ship Mini Rant
As much as I detest Mileena x Kenshi for a multitude of reasons, at the end of the day, I’m not in the right place to tell people what they can and can’t ship. However, there’s two things I have to say about it.
I can’t believe there are people trying to argue that Kenshi and Mileena have more chemistry than Mileena and Tanya. Kenshi and Mileena barely interacted in MK1, let alone any of the other games. So far, the only notable interactions they’ve had are the part where she BLINDED him and one of their intros together where she apologized for blinding him. Meanwhile, both MK1 AND MKX show plenty of chemistry between Tanya and Mileena, both in the story mode and in their intros together. Let’s face it; Kenleena is a crackship, and nothing more. Trying to argue that Tanya and Mileena’s relationship is forced and that Kenshi and Mileena make a better couple is completely stupid. At this point, it feels like people are just trying to come up with bullshit reasons to erase canon wlw relationships. Yes, Mileena and Tanya are both bisexual, but last time I checked they’re not in an open relationship.
The disrespect that a lot of Kenleena shippers show to Taleena and even Johnshi shippers is disgusting. Stuff like that is why most people consider shippers to be so toxic. It wouldn’t kill you to be a little nicer to other people, even if they like different ships. Even if I don’t like Kenleena, I don’t harass people because of it. Being mean to other people for no reason doesn’t do anything good for you or the fandom. All it does is cause unnecessary drama.

Opinion on sr2022?
For me it was boring, flying and combat were meh and reboot itself was worse than AOM which I liked yet I got instantly dragged JUST for liking aom but the game's critics on YT are even worse than sr2022 itself plus they claimed they hate representations (oh god 🙄) while the original four had POCs, multiple Saints of races AND BISEXUAL SHAUNDI, their favourite Gat is Korean and had a BLACK girlfriend, SR1 and 2 villanized white Tanya and Dane and there was a gay man in SR1 before you do a car race, IRONIC how people who are allergic to this idolize sr that HAS that
i didn't play reboot so my opinion abt gameplay, combat and etc can be subjective
but i watched playthrough and my only serious problem with reboot is antagonists, i mean there's almost no cutscenes with only them (comparing with original series) so personally i couldn't get into them or see them as a big threat or smth else
abt THESE ppl uhhhh i saw their complainings all year since reboot was announced it was so unbearable, i don't believe these ppl played sr at all
i remember when default boss was shown they really though that reboot won't let create their own boss like wtf???? new sr game which series is popular cuz big character customization won't let you create your own boss???
i'm a little off topic but anyway, i still think they haven't quite played a series if they complain about having pocs and gay people fr
