Never will cease to piss me off how there are so many amazing sapphic ships in books and shows but people are so big budget fandom pilled that the only wlw that shows up every year in those Top 100 ship countdowns are the middest yuribait you have ever seen in your life like wdym last year the only significant sapphic ships in top 100 were fucking Rhaenicent and Dorlene from Harry Potter?? Like???? What in the collective delusional midness. This should have been Nomi and Amanita. This should have been Claudia and Madeline, and Jess and Lupe, and Tamako and Sookhee. Genuinely think the last time a canon sapphic ship got big on Tumblr and actually had flavour was Villanelle and Eve.

One lowkey thing that kinda drives me insane about Taylor Swift is discussion about her music. I don't know how to explain this properly but... (sorry for the long ask)
She's not an excellent singer. She's fine, but as a good example from her own discography: look at Florida feat. Florence. Florence singing her verse made me wake up in that album and made me realize how the song could've been delivered! She sings it in a much more interesting way than Taylor did. This isn't even to speak towards other popular artists like Beyonce, Ariana, Lana, Olivia, Billie, etc. who all have their own signature vocal styles and delivery that are impressive and make their songs.
I don't know. It feels bizarre to have one of the biggest pop artists in the world to have such mediocre vocals. TTPD as an album I feel partly got killed because of the way she's so samey about her vocal delivery.
But her fans would say no it's not about the vocals, it's the songwriting. But then TTPD songwriting was meh and just awful at some parts (the 1800s racist line is weird. period. I don't care whatever essay defense they give it). What now? What's the appeal? Why does she get to release something mediocre and get all the attention and praise when some artists have released great albums this year?
Then there's also when she gets the weirdest praise for the mildest things that other musicians have done. Album eras? "Oh, she's so cool and different for that!" No, she didn't invent them, shut up. An album of fictional songs with a story? They act as if concept albums don't exist! The most minor of genre shifts (she's primarily exploring different types of pop) are treated as experimental and groundbreaking. The most milquetoast and shallow political music she ever wrote (YNTCD and The Man) are seen as iconic moments of speaking out. Like what?
It's just frustrating me. I remember when someone told me she screamed in some songs in TTPD (Who's Afraid of Little Old Me and The Black Dog iirc) and I listened to that album and I thought they were joking with me because what do you mean scream??? Why does she get praised for so much mediocrity holy shit!
I think this is why when I hear people say that there's swifties that only mainly listen to Taylor and Taylor-adjacent artists, I believe them. I feel like they're making so many impressed remarks about her work because that's all they know. That's how we get genre takes like someone saying Rep is punk or how they want her to make a rock album. I feel like that's how we get stupid stuff like Gaylors too. Because why listen to actually out queer artists if you can just reimagine your fave artist as queer?
Honestly, I just don't understand the attachment to her music? Every time someone tells me it's because she's relatable, I just shake my head because she's never been relatable to me, even back when I enjoyed her songs. Maybe I'm too un-USAmerican for this, but she was never very universal for me. I enjoyed her because she did fun pop songs. But now I've realized she's so frustratingly shitty as a person, I can't listen to her.
Sorry for the rant, but it's been hard to find a space for this without getting attacked by swifties (especially as a poc).

All these girls coming out of their holes to comment on a sexist joke about a white plastic doll movie character at the golden globes. But when real women are starving, violated and even murdered continuously in Congo and Sudan, Yemen and Palestine,,,their outrage is suddenly nowhere to be found.
No offense to the girlies but ngl it's a little discouraging to see.
It's like...some women are tired/angry/frustrated on behalf of a fictional character more than they are for the suffering of real women. It literally took a guy coming for barbie for them to "speak up" for the sake of womanhood.
And just bc some of their fave celebs didnt feed into the joke, which is the bare min, they're of course regarded as heroes. Well Taylor and Selena havent said one word against the genocide in Gaza as we speak.

Not defendingts putting you on a "Taylor antis blocklist" for *checks notes* falesley equivocating anti zionism with antisemitism. Not only is that a dangerous rhetoric to spread and perpetrate, it's exactly the kind of lack of nuance I'd expect from someone like that. I hope your inbox doesn't get turned into a minefield from her doing that
i did what now?!? 😭 gonna close my ask box for a couple days then…i really need to catch up on answering asks
edit: i saw the follow up ask that someone sent about me - thank you to that desi anon for defending my name and honor, i love u. HOWEVER, I MUST CLARIFY: I AM BLACK. I AM NOT DESI. I AM BLACK.

Now, most of what i write is very grim dark fantasy with a lot of midsummer nights dream whimsy but BUT what I told you I have a standalone in works (which could take years) which a is a PURE love story between a court jester and a maid, who have been friends for long. I watch them go from bickering friends to still bickering absolutely enamoured lovers luke these two need each other to BREATH kinda love. And listen, Jane Austen is my GURU, the aesthetic of this book is the 2005 Pride and Prejudice but with more fantasy, a LOT more kisses and every one of them will feel like the "Mrs Darcy" one or I will scream into the cosmos. The friendship between those two is inspired by an irl friendship of mine but we're more platonic. Likeeeeeeee, I absolutely hate modern romantasy because I like smut but why is it just always smut. I want romance, I want the before sunset, p&p 2005, 90s romcom vibes. I want LIGHT, ITS GOLDEN SHE LIKES SHINY THINGS BUT SHE'LL MARRY HIM WITH PAPER RINGE KINDA STUFF. So I took matters into my own hands. The maids name hasn't been fully confirmed yet but my friend named the clown Patricio. Oh and I got the inspiration for this story from staring at the kiss by Gustav Klimt for hours :)

hey as a lesbian I’m just saying I never saw any queer people mad at the whole “that’s fine I’ll tell mine you’re gay” lyric. Like I’ve only seen straight people say it’s offensive or whatever and that just got me thinking that like
so often the voices of minorities are completely ignored by majorities who think they know everything abt us and can speak for us yk? And obviously this is way deeper than a Taylor swift lyric but it’s so annoying how people always think they can speak for minorities they aren’t a part of. Like if y’all would fucking listen to us for once we aren’t pissed abt one lyric written in the 2000s yk? We have way bigger issues than something so small. Idk it’s just annoying and it’s a trend I’ve noticed a lot. Like I follow a makeup artist on insta who was doing a series where she did makeup looks inspired by different cultures. At some point some people (who I’m fairly sure were white and not apart of any of the cultures she was drawing inspo from) started saying it was offensive. People FROM THESE CULTURES started weighing in and from what I understand, the majority where fine with it as long as she was giving credit where credit was due (she was). But because some white people decided that they knew what was right, girl got super upset and deleted a bunch of her stuff. And btw, she was literally a POC. And obviously I’m white so when it comes to this stuff I follow the opinion of people who belong to these cultures and ethnicities and stuff but it’s just so frustrating!!! Innocent people are getting throw under the base bc majorities decide they know best and most of the time WE FUCKING DONT!!!!

being punk and seeing fictional punks get mistreated and thrown around as if their fundamental beliefs aren't *that* important has been a new pet peeve of mine. Like I don't even ship with them (yet.) but ultimately I end up being defense squad bcus fictional punks can't have shit without people eventually removing their beliefs from them 🗿🗿🗿

The fact that I didn't even have to finish reading the Taylor can buy Kanye post to think, "well that's racist" and yet her fanbase is out here thinking about that, editing photos and posting the shit...
Well, Swifties are never beating the racist allegations I guess.
the fact that so many swifties of color see that shit and not think anything of it because they’re so deep in the ts bullshit is genuinely concerning.

Not a psychologist, but good at finding patterns.
I think it’s because of how diverse most forms of media are becoming, from movies to books to podcasts to music. When it comes to a fictionalised production or a story being shown, it’s becoming increasingly common to see someone who is black, brown, fat, queer. (Etc)
So now, when someone is used to seeing such diversity and representation in nearly all media they consume [Aside for the piss on the poor people - it is absolutely wonderful to see this diversity and for me to see people that look like me on the big screen et al. I am also not talking about the quality of those representative roles, just their quantity increasing with time], they expect to see it in their favourite musician as well.
As a white woman solo act, the phenomenon that is Taylor Swift can’t quite be considered one that has PoC representation at its core (not talking about concerts and performances). However, because she has not come out to directly say HEY IM STRAIGHT, some fans believe that there is enough speculative "proof" for them to claim that she is queer of any flavour.
People who ship her with other women or believe that she is queer, aka gaylors, are these fans that appear to have come to expect a certain level of representation and are extending those expectations upon her. I believe that they have fallen into one of the errors that newer Swifties (am not really in any other fandoms related to music/artists) succumb to - viewing her as more of a product than as a person working upon her passions, and thus subjecting her to these expectations, requirements and/or demands that corporation led, multi-person efforts in media are supposed to have in this era.
So they look past her subtler indications, like the term 'allyship' in the 1989 tv message, etc, and seem to have formed a sense of entitlement that leads to messages such as "you're still gay and that's FINAL" even when there is absolutely nothing that is not circumstantial as evidence for such a claim.
Tumblr media
“You’re still gay and that’s FINAL.” is such a batshit sentence guys im literally losing my mind over here
