inspired by @spartalabouche i wanted to make a little masterpost of my gw2 characters

jynx ghoststep / she/her / thief (daredevil)

jynx is a middle-aged ash legionnaire and reluctant pact commander. her warband has shrunk in recent years but they are still close nonetheless. jynx has a lot of regrets and struggles under the weight of them and also her incomprehensible amount of responsibilities. she is kind of shockingly average once you get past all of her achievements and would really like a break, for once in her life

laika blindwraith / she/they / revenant (renegade)

estranged daughter of the pact commander, laika is a rather impulsive and hotheaded blood legionnaire (aspiring centurion). she is in a warband with her littermate brother and several other younger charr and resents her mother deeply for many reasons including not contacting her until adulthood and being bothered to raise TWO dragons but not her own children. she needs therapy so bad but resorts to talking to kalla scorchrazor in her head and being angry

harrow heartrender / she/her/whatever / necromancer

harrow is a retired ash legion centurion and current hermit who moved to cantha the second it was feasible for her to do so. she is jynx's mother and laika and kyrr's grandmother but she wishes they would all stop trying to contact her. she wants to sit in a cave and fish for the rest of her life and die surrounded by flesh minions

kyrr wraithsight / he/him / guardian

more teddy bear than fighter, kyrr was dragged into his sister's warband at a young age and has spent his entire life making sure she doesn't get herself killed. he has a healthier relationship with their mother and hopes that one day all of them will get along normally

ryker hailsplitter / she/they / warrior and freak

ryker is a member of the iron legion's hail warband and spends most of her days peacefully tinkering with machines. that is, until her legionnaire decided they would follow bangar ruinbringer into war. ryker ends up being forced to become frost legion but survives the entire ordeal

tsaraya / she/her / ranger

this was actually my first ever gw2 character but i just haven't done a ton with her. she is a gladium. i might make her olmakhan in some capacity, i don't know yet! i like her design though :)

CLETUS KASADY | FUN FACTS

• Listens to Motley Crue

• Was originally serving eleven consecutive life sentences in Rykers Prison (and was fully prepared to make it 12 after killing his cell mate Eddie Brock cause Eddie was annoying him with his constant exercise/clapping)

• Was convicted of eleven murders but bragged about a dozen more

• Symbiote is described as being made up of black and blood by an eyewitness to Carnage��s first string of crimes

• Calls Spider-Man “Webster” the first time they fight

• Writes “Carnage Rules” on walls in either his own or his victim’s blood after he kills someone when he first becomes Carnage. It’s like his calling card

• Apparently had a stuffed teddy bear named Binky back when he was put in St.Estes Group Home. He also eventually (still as a child) burned down said group home

• Certified Cop Killer™️ (and this is just in his first slew of appearances)

• Allegedly (as of The Amazing Spider-Man: Carnage Part One) pushed a girl in front of a bus. He presumably did this as a child still.

• Before he was captured he was said to have been a ‘quite man who paid his rent on time’ by his landlord.

• Was described as a “Strange Lad. Poor Student,” and apparently there was some tragedy that happened at homecoming when he was still in school that presumably had something to do with him

• Carnage doesn’t trigger Peter’s Spider-Sense

• Can solidify his “costume” in a way Venom never could according to Peter

• The Carnage symbiote when detached from the “main body” can’t maintain molecular integrity (ie: if Carnage throws a symbiote projectile that detaches from his body it will disintegrate shortly after impact)

• He was a “Family Annihilator” (in criminal minds terms at least) in regards to how he became a serial killer before the symbiote. Kind of, he also killed on an individual bases often.

• Sometime after being defeated in Carnage: The Conclusion (I’m presuming) Cletus is incarcerated at: “Ravencroft, a maximum security institution devoted to the study of the criminally insane” - according to Ben Reilly in Web of Carnage Part Two)

• Has been calling the symbiote “Red” since Carnage: Part Two

• Likes grey poupon mustard on his sandwich (a sandwich that he was making in the house of one of the people he’d killed’s kitchen. The scene was still yet to be discovered by authorities)

• More susceptible to sonic (high frequency noise) attacks than to heat, as Carnage fell onto the third rail at Penn Station that “thousands of volts” of electricity were being channeled into and brushed the heat off with a joke. On the other hand he’s defeated in Carnage: The Conclusion by Spider-Man setting the speakers at Maddison Square Garden to the same frequency as the Fantastic Four’s sonic emitters. Carnage also goes down (by virtue of being younger than the venom symbiote) faster than Venom.

• Uses Webster & Webstinker in reference to Spider-Man. (I’ve pointed out Webster already but I just think it’s that adorable)

goon | the hockey glossary for beginners

this was meant to just be something i could slide into my end notes but as usual i got a little overenthusiastic. you do not NEED to know any of this in order to read the hockey au, but if you're like me and enjoy Knowing Things, I'll keep this updated as chapters are added. i tried my best to keep this in laymans terms.

chapter seven

bar down: when the puck hits the crossbar and into the net Phil Kessel: Kessel is a three-time Stanley Cup champion who is sort of infamous for giving zero fucks about his diet — while the rest of the league has focused more and more on healthy nutrition there was a running joke for a while that Kessel just housed a dozen hot dogs in between periods to keep up his peak physical performance.

This was mostly hyped up by a Toronto reporter with a grudge, Kessel worked out a ton and could probably have done ten reps with any player on his team, but he leaned into the joke as well after one of his Cup wins. Ryker: Mark Rycroft currently works as an announcer for the Avs broadcast network, and played in the NHL previous to that, including a stint for the Avs (they like to bring back old players, half the staff between Altitude network and the front office seems to be previous players, at this point). He owns a liquor store in the metro area. In this ‘verse Buck totally hit him up for craft beer recommendations and Ryker came back at him with a six-pack of cherry cheesecake sours, then talked about it on air for like ten minutes during pre-game warmups.

Here's one of my favorite Ryker moments on the broadcast:

Luke Prokop: the only out player in pro-mens hockey in North America. He currently plays for the Nashville Predator’s AHL team. Lexi: Lexi LaFleur Brown, my favorite WAG of all time. She is married to former NHL player and current analyst for the Seattle Kraken JT Brown. Lexi’s bi and her husband is a vocal ally of the community. More than that, she’s got a doctorate in philosophy, and is hilarious and insightful (and she’s writing a hockey romance novel that I will definitely be reading considering she’s got the inside track to how insane and weird those men are).

chapter six

coast to coast: when a play carries the pick from deep in his own defensive zone all the way to the opposing teams goal Bears: The Hershey Bears are an AHL team, currently an affiliate of the Washington Capitals. Once a year, they throw a charity game (typically held around Christmas time) with a teddy bear toss (Sort of an homage to fans tossing their hats on the ice for a hat trick). Fans are encouraged to bring teddy bears or other stuffed toys to the game, and throw them on to the ice when the home team scores their first goal. The toys are then gathered to be donated. The Bears own the world record for most toys gathered in a single event. The Michigan: goal scored by a player either standing or skating behind the net, lifting the puck onto their stick, moving the stick (with the puck, which is even more difficult than it sounds) around the net to the top or corner of the net, and shooting the puck into the net. players in the nhl rarely pull this move (it’s a bit of a trick play) but when someone pulls it off it ends up in every highlight reel for a week. you can watch it in action here

chapter five

Tortorella: John Tortorella is the current head coach of the Philadelphia Flyers. he is simultaneously beloved and beloathed by fans and players alike for his hot-headedness and his inability to keep his mouth shut when he has An Opinion. he’s well known for benching players as punishment and has quite a few contentious relationships with former players and coaches in the league. as far as i can tell, he’s pretty genuinely well-liked in his current role, but that is sort of a new development for him. Eagles: The Colorado Eagles are The Avs AHL affiliate team Norris: James Norris Memorial Trophy, awarded to the top all-around defensive player in the league every year shutout: the q-word of the hockey world. similar to mentioning a no-hitter before a baseball game has finished, saying the word “shutout” when the opposition has yet to score on your goalie in the game is considered a sure way to invite the opposition to score. you don’t have to be superstitious, but you’ve gotta be a little-stitious Duchene: you may have noticed there was some extra vitriol for matt duchene in this chapter. i can promise you it’s justified. (it’s vagely justified) he played for the avs with the core who eventually went on to win a cup in ‘22, but he was having a Bad Time and performing like shit during an incredibly Bad Season (the Avs only recently shed the record for the least amount of points earned in a season), he was not getting on with the guys in the locker room, and he all but demanded a trade because he wanted to play for a cup contender. his trade was actually vitally integral in getting the avs the pieces that finally tipped them over the edge and made them champs, which is icing on the cake for me. i think this year was the first year since ‘17 that he wasn’t actively booed in Denver every time the puck touched his stick. (it was only about half the time, last season) although he managed to once again make himself the villain by ending the avs season in the second round of the playoffs. picking pockets: to be stripped of the puck without seeing the opponent coming penalty kill: (abbreviated to PK) when a team is assessed a penalty and are down a man, the players left shorthanded on the ice have to prevent the power-play from scoring. typically, a penalty ends when time is up OR the power play unit scores a goal, however when a major penalty is assessed, the penalty timer keeps going until it is up regardless of whether or not the power play scores. (ie: this is a risky as fuck move by tommy because he essentially created a circumstance in which half of the time they had left on the clock would be limited to defense, with very little opportunity to score. thankfully for him, doing something so blatant that the refs HAD to call it worked exactly like he wanted it to, and fired up his team.) Honey Stinger: energy snack. this specific sidebar in tommy’s thoughts is inspired by cale makar chowing down on one of these wafers on the bench and being caught by the broadcast doing it

saucer pass: a pass with lift — rather than sliding along the ice this pass ends up in the air. these passes are harder to gather in and make controlling the puck more difficult

chapter four

too many men: refers to a penalty that results when, during a shift change, there are more players in play than the allowed five (plus the goalie) hatty: hat trick, three points scored by the same player in the span of a game. a natural hat trick is three goals scored by the same player consecutively bucket: helmet Bobby Blender: “[Coach Name] Blender” is a term used (usually by broadcasters) to describe the head coach moving players up and down the lineup with no focus on their typical line assignments. they typically do this just to try to get a spark, some chemistry going — this is a throw everything at the wall and see what sticks scenario. sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t, but it can sometimes be specifically designed to fuck with the opponents, who have played certain configurations and watched game film (and therefore designed their strategy) around the “normal” line setup crease: sometimes referred to as the paint, or blue paint. blue semi-circle directly in front of the net where the goaltender defends. this is the goalies domain, and they get very protective of it when someone is encroaching on their space. consider it a tendy-bubble sweater: in ice hockey, the jersey players wear is called a sweater. the two words are interchangeable but if you ask a hockey purist about their jersey they WILL speak to you as though you’ve lived under a rock your whole life Travis Dermott: In 2023 The NHL had dispatched a memo to teams before the season reiterating its ban on altering on-ice gear for warmups and practices to reflect theme nights. This was touted as removing distraction from the game but was very clearly a direct response to a loud group of anti-LGBTQI+ fans/sponsors. Quite a few players and coaches made noise about this, and the company who produces rainbow Pride tape hinted that one team had bought an entire case of it in a likely move to protest this decision, but all it took was one player — Travis Dermott — defying the ban by playing with Pride tape for the league to walk back the ban. He’s a fucking legend.

chapter three

flippers/jibs/partials: dentures. hockey players loose teeth. often. they take pucks to the face, sticks to the face, have nasty falls to unforgiving ice, take a shoulder to the face accidentally (or on purpose even though headshots are super not legal within the parameters of hitting in hockey), etc all the damn time, and sometimes that results in them losing teeth. some of them prefer to rock the look, others like to wear dentures, some get implants (and sometimes those implants ALSO get knocked out, like Tavares literally a few days after getting them).

chiclets: teeth. most often referred to this way when players have lost said chiclets and are trying to find their white teeth on choppy ice with a white backdrop

crosscheck: act of obstructing an opponent illegally using the stick held horizontally in both hands

call-ups: players who play for the affiliate team can be brought up to fill spots on the team. for poor-performing teams, at the end of the season there is an opportunity for some players to play up and try to prove themselves at the NHL level. this sometimes leads to good teams getting the surprise of their life when AHL players play the best game of their lives. other times, a lineup of AHL players get their asses handed to them. and sometimes the AHL players lean into their roots (there is a LOT more fighting in the AHL, they tend to be more physical in general) and just beat up the other team for the entire game

four-point game: within the division (pacific, central, atlantic, metropolitan) teams play each other four or five times - a total of 26 interdivision games -- so the "points" system that the league uses to rank teams throughout the regular season (0 for a loss, 1 for an OT loss, 2 for a win) are called four-point games - ei the ranking in the division determines your spot in the playoffs, so a victory against a divisional team means that while you pull ahead 2 more points they "lose" 2 points within the division.

wildcard: when a team cannot clinch 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in the division, they still have the opportunity to earn a playoff spot if they earn enough points to be top 8 in the conference. everything is a points battle to win within your conference and your division.

rounds: first/second/third round refers to playoffs - the first two rounds are in the division, and the third round decides the conference champion who will play for the stanley cup (no not that one)

pipes: the net, or goal, has two vertical frames in the front that are called the pipes (if a puck deflects off of these you may hear this referred to as hitting the iron). fun fact: there are some goalies who thank their pipes and crossbar (the top part of the frame) every time the puck deflects off of the net instead of going in

stripes/zebras: these are not necessarily derogatory terms for referees, but you will rarely hear these terms used in a fond context, because even when a call goes in a teams favor, fans in general love to shit on the refs. this is a time honored tradition that will never change.

linesman: a specific position of officiating that mostly involves watching the center and blue lines

blue line: this is the border of a zone. the middle of the ice has two blue lines on either side of the center red, which is the neutral zone. when you are in possession of the puck behind your blue line, you are playing defense. when you are in possession of the puck behind the opponents blue line, you are on offense.

icing: offensive teams are required to pass the red center line if they want to shovel the puck to the opposing goal line and chase it. if they do NOT pass the center line before doing so (or can not chase the puck down faster than the defending team) the play is called dead and the puck is returned to the defending zone of the attacking team

affiliate team: all nhl teams have a 'farm system' where they develop players up to the nhl level - within each team organization there are affiliates where nhlers can be brought up to play at the nhl level, sent down to condition, or play games while rehabbing after an injury. some players play up and down a system for years before catching a break, or move from affiliate to affiliate without ever really reaching the nhl level

enforcer: this is an unofficial role in ice hockey - their job is to deter dirty or violent play by the opposition, but sometimes this results in dropping gloves and punching a dude in the face a few times for apparent slights. it can also just mean throwing their body around, slamming opposition into the boards and the glass, catching someone not paying attention and knocking them on their ass. there are LEGAL hits and hits that will incur a penalty, and the outcome of a game can sometimes depend on which one of those an enforcer finds themselves choosing to act out

boards: the low walls that mark the boundaries of the rink. above this is the glass that keeps pucks being shot 90+ mph from careening into a fans face. there is also netting above the glass

lines: in game conditions, a team consists of four 'offensive' lines, 3 defensive pairs, and a goalie. the lines consist of a 3 forwards: a center and a right and left winger. typically these lines are fairly set throughout the season with the same three players, but based on overall performance and sometimes injury, forwards can be moved up and down a line - they are typically ranked 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th based on how high a performer they are. your first line is going to be the most trusted to make plays and score goals, your fourth will include more role-players who are scrappy or particularly good at hemming in the opposition in their defensive zone

shift: players rarely spend more than a minute out on the ice at once, and lines shift on and off the bench throughout the game - TOI or time-on-ice is often a measure of either: how trusted and/or conditioned a player is, or how tired a player is likely to be after being stuck in their defensive zone for an extended period of time. a long shift is often used to the advantage of an attacking team - if you can tire out the opposition it's a lot easier to pass back and forth until you find a lane to shoot the puck at the net

snow shower: colloquial term for chumming the ice while slowing/stopping, often for the express purpose of pissing someone off by aiming the spray of ice at them

hockey hug: typically this is referenced when a member of one team is physically restraining one from another team to prevent them from joining a scrum

face-off: when a play is whistled dead, based on the result of the dead call the refs will have a forward from each team wait for a puck to drop from a designated circle. possession is an advantage in hockey, so the goal of this is to shovel the puck to your team once it drops

unsportsmanlike: 'unsportsmanlike conduct' is a penalty called fo disrespectful behavior that is rude, unpleasant, or unprofessional. This usually begins as a two minute penalty and then escalates to a five minute major or game misconduct because hockey players are hotheads and refs have fragile egos. This is not to say that EVERY little infraction will result in this call - on hot mikes and sometimes even on broadcasts (and DEFINITELY at a live game) players and refs can often be heard swearing at each other like crazy.

the box: the penalty box is where the refs send bad boys for timeout. this results in the team who has received a penalty being short a man, and the other team receiving a power play where they have an extra man and therefore a much better chance at scoring

shorthanded goal: rare and fun goals that occur when the team who is down a man scores during the time they are killing off a penalty game

stars: not to be confused with the dallas stars (boo); at the end of every game three stars are chosen. this is an arbitrary selection based on any number of factors, but typically goes to the top performers in a game. although these are chosen by someone associated with the home team, sometimes if the opposition had a particularly good performer one of the stars will go to an opposing player

the Gordie Howe: in this fic I'm referencing a Gordie Howe hat trick, which is a goal, an assist, and a fight -- the truest form of hockey player. The name is a reference to a hall-of-famer who is renowned for his all-around game.

breakaway: when the player in control of the puck has no opponent between himself and the net except the goalie

His entire life, Teddy has been trying to get as far away from the saying like father like son as possible. Teddy is the youngest of three, and all of the Ryker children grew up with their father and no mother, his own mother having left before he could even walk. Their father was a cursed man, at least that’s what he told his children, because the women always came, spent his money and had his kids, and then left. Joel Ryker tried to love his children but he was never a good man, paying for their clothes and schooling with money he made from trafficking and drug extortion. Teddy was aware of his father’s trade his whole life, drugs and runaway girls were a constant, but he managed to keep away from both—at least in the beginning. With their father so busy with his work, Teddy and his brother, Michael, were raised predominantly by their sister, Mandy, who was 14 years Teddy’s senior, and she did a better job of raising Teddy than he thought his own mother ever would.

Teddy grew up desensitised to crime and Mandy tried to keep him on the straight and narrow, making sure he got all his homework done and making him take weekly drug tests just in case he succumbed to the family business. It was already too late for Michael, he’d become involved in his father’s various business ventures when he was 13 and he was happy with the money and the power he got from it. Mandy became more concerned for Teddy as he grew from a child to an adolescent, and his indifference turned into a bad temper and an impulsive streak that was difficult to repress. As soon as she started noticing this, Mandy was down at the school signing Teddy up for the Exy team, telling him that he was going to play it whether he liked it or not. As it was, Teddy kind of liked Exy; sometimes he watched it on TV with his dad and even he had to admit that it helped with his temper—plus, he was pretty damn good at it. Things were better for a while, despite the nature of their lives everyone seemed to be getting on okay: Teddy stayed in school and on the Exy team, Mandy got to go to night classes to become a nurse and their father and brother…well, they kept doing what they were doing.

The world turned upside down when Mandy came home from her night class and found Teddy, 14-years-old at the time, crying on the bathroom floor and tripping out of his mind. After she screamed at Michael and her father for giving LSD to a child, she took Teddy and ran. Mandy knew the risks, she knew better than anyone that her father was a dangerous man and he’d probably kill her for taking away what belonged to him. He saw Teddy as property, he was meant to turn out like he and Michael and continue the family business but Teddy wasn’t made for it, he was too quiet and clever and Mandy wasn’t going to let his life turn out that way. They barely made it to Nevada before they were caught by Joel’s contacts and they were dragged kicking and screaming back to Oakland. Mandy only survived because Teddy, on his knees, begged their father not to kill her, promising that he’d do anything if he didn’t kill her. Mandy got off “lightly” with a beating and having her night class privileges revoked. That was the last time either of them disobeyed their father.

For the next few years, Mandy tried to earn back their father’s respect and Teddy did what he was told. He was allowed to stay in his expensive school, he was allowed to play Exy and that was all that mattered to him; when he wasn’t running errands for his father he tried to be on the court as much as possible. He was becoming more and more exposed to crime every day, going on runs with Michael to collect debts and deliver girls and drugs to his father’s various clients. It wasn’t anything he hadn’t seen before but it wasn’t easy—it was difficult when you had girls begging you to just let them go home and when you had to watch your brother cut off a man’s hand because he was $20 short of what he owed. But Teddy had plans. Mandy barely spoke these days but he wanted to make her proud by going to real college and making something of himself. Maybe he’d get in on an Exy scholarship, maybe his father would say yes if he asked to go, maybe he could play for the Palmetto State Foxes.

He spent the whole of his senior year working up the courage to ask his father to let him go to college. Normal parents would already be pestering him about applying but Teddy was expected to go into the family business, and it bothered him that his father and his brother both said he was good at helping them and kept giving him bigger responsibilities. Teddy didn’t want that life, though. He waited until his father was in a good mood to ask him and, shockingly, he said yes. However, there were conditions: Teddy would finish college no matter what and he would join the business straight after he graduated, regardless of the offers he got as far as a career in Exy went. Teddy, not having much of a choice, accepted and his coach was more than happy to put Teddy forward for a place on the Foxes. Despite it all, despite Teddy’s background and who his family was, he was a good player and he wanted it, he wanted it more than anything else in the world.

SEIZE IT WITH EVERYTHING YOU’VE GOT

He immediately took advantage of being away from his family. Well, physically away—his father still kept tabs on him, ready to punish him for any slip in his performance, whether it was in class or on the court. Fear kept him from doing anything remotely outrageous until the winter of his sophomore year, when he went back to Oakland for Christmas. It started with Jewel: a close friend—and, sometimes, more than friend—of Teddy’s since childhood, both of them raised in all too similar worlds of crime and dysfunction. Due to nearly-legendary feud between Teddy’s family and Jewel’s, Teddy’s father was livid about Teddy and Jewel’s relationship, and his fury almost drove him to murder his own son. As a result, Teddy was sent back to Palmetto and banned from contacting his family or his friends from Oakland until his graduation. Teddy wished he’d listened when his dad told him that disobedience this time would not be so easily forgiven.

All it took was a lonely phone call to his sister for Teddy to destroy his own world. Jewel barely made it through January, and Teddy couldn’t help but feel like Jewel’s murder at the hands of his father was his fault—and it broke him. With the murder came an investigation, the well-known bad blood between their two families enough to draw the police close to the truth, and so Teddy’s dad let Michael take the blame for Jewel’s death and Teddy was forced back to Oakland for questioning. With one brother in a jail cell and the other so traumatised that he couldn’t get out of bed, Mandy took it upon herself to end things once and for all by turning their dad in. Joel Ryker would rot in prison, but it came at a price: Mandy had to disappear. She entered witness protection and although she’d just about saved Teddy’s life, it didn’t really feel worth it to him if she wasn’t in it. His grief translated to volatility both on and off the court and increased sessions with Betsy—and, ultimately, a diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder.

However, even with all of this, there was the tiniest, most dangerous, piece of hope. When everything was going haywire at Christmas, Teddy had a secret: he’d made contact with his mom—or, more accurately, she’d made contact with him. A long awaited letter from her turned into phone calls and discussion of Teddy going to Boston to meet her and her new family. Teddy had had just about enough of parents and dysfunctional family but there was something about his mother, who managed to get out of Oakland and give herself a life, that Teddy found himself drawn to. He couldn’t help but hope that there might actually be a chance at something good there, even though the prospect of having her in his life, having somewhere outside of Palmetto to call home, was as terrifying as the prospect of being able to decide his own future and live his life outside of his dad’s authority. It still is terrifying—but there’s something about it that’s exciting, as well.

His finger flicked repeatedly over the lighter he almost always forgot on his desk, watching the flame come to life and die again. There was a barely there tremble to his fingers, and he gripped the lighter harder. 

It was so stupid

So, unbelievably stupid, and he knew it.

His jaw was aching from the punch that had landed. Someone had taken a page from a couple of frat boy’s books, dug right into where it hurt because they remembered what had happened at the party last year, and had tempted Dominic right into rage. And then he’d returned to the dorm, sat down on the couch to read and calm the fuck down, and the screen of his Kindle had been shattered. Colin wasn’t a slob, kept his shit together and out of Dom’s way whenever they weren’t dancing around each other, but Teddy?

Teddy was a piece of shit and this wasn’t the first time his shit getting tossed around had fucked with something of Dom’s. But a book, really, getting thrown haphazardly across a desk where it landed right on top of his goddamn Kindle?

And then Teddy had just left it sitting there like everything was fine.

Dom flicked the lighter again, and when the door opened, he was up and moving without thinking, a snarl on his face. Colin had class. It was just him and this piece of shit.

His arm came up hard, pressing to Teddy’s throat so he could slam him into the wall. “I swear to fuck I’m going to throw all of your shit off of the roof- Are you ever going to fucking grow up enough to take care of your own shit and not fuck up mine?”

Nodding the little boy scrambled to his feet and rummaged through the boxes. A few minutes later he came to stand beside his brother clutching a dirty teddy bear to his chest. Smiling down at him Ryker, he took his hand picking up the bag of food the girl from the shelter had given him.  Then turned to leave the alley they had called home.

It wasn’t the worst winter Chicago had ever had, but if you believed the Vasile media coverage, it was close. Blizzard flurries had coated the crimson city in white. Each new day brought a fresh coat of 5-10 inches of shaved ice. People had grown accustomed to becoming recluse in the winter. Staying in the warm confines of their homes to watch the wind whistle the frost on the streets. The temperatures were well below double negatives, and even the animals of the city would much rather be dealing with their backs to a furnace.

Normally the storms don’t last this long, but this night it’s exceptionally worst. The wheezing air scratches against the windows of every establishment in town. Followed by a explosive boom as the transporters in different areas become the claimed victim of Mother Nature. Electricity starts to fizzle and snap away as each house on the street becomes shrouded in darkness. The street lights are lost in the winter abyss. Sounds of automobiles crashing and the whispered hums from the broken generator paint the macabre picture of November 25th.

The backup generators don’t turn on, and it’s only a matter of time before each resident packs up a change of clothes. The radio blips in and out of signal but mentions a shelter on neutral territory. It’s here everyone finds themselves. A gift of light, but will it cost a life ? As the Fausts, O’Sheas, Leons, Washingtons, and even the Vasiles end up at the same base. Is anyone safe ? Or will the Winter Wonderland casualty count rise with the war being in one well lit hotel ?

Keep in mind that all characters can do their own thing this event! We tried something different than plot slots this time and have the below organized groups: If you have more than 2 characters, the others will be intertwined in the chaos. 

Each group below finds themselves in a fresh hotel room that’s been changed around to hold cots instead of it’s normal amenities. The adjoined rooms are locked. There’s a glitch in the hotel where once the door to the rooms close - it locks into place. Now the people that despise one another are forced to figure out how to get the hell away from one another in this macabre shelter. The cell towers are unstable meaning the signals go from full to dead zone merely taking one step in one direction.
