For every animal Shauna butchered, Natalie pulled the trigger, for every life she had spread out on her table, Natalie was the spearhead, ending things. Shauna bore the guilt for Jackie’s death, and Nat put her bones to rest. Nat bore the guilt for Javi’s death, and Shauna prepared him for consumption. Neither of them have ever been afforded the luxury of not doing what needed to be done, or of looking away. Natalie now knows what it’s like to be the butcher. And Shauna will now know Natalie’s burden of being the leader
